Swimming advisories are available via Suffolk County Health Services hotline at 631-852-5822 Or at https://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Health-Services/Environmental-Quality/Ecology/Beach-Monitoring-Program Suffolk County Health Services tests the water quality from Mid May - Mid Sept. Tier I beaches are tested 2-3 times per week and Tier II beaches are tested at least once per week, with more frequent testing at beaches where water quality changes often. Tier II beaches are retested if a sample exceeds water quality standards. Tier 1 beaches are closed after one sample exceedance and retested daily until reopened. The samples are taken at knee depth, near known and potential pollution sources and from the most popular swimming spots. Tier III beaches are tested once a month. A marine beach is marked Green when there are equal to or less than 104 units of Enterococci per 100 ml of water and when the 30-day geometric mean contains 35 units / 100ml of water or less. A freshwater beach is marked Green when single sample results are 235 units of E.coli per 100 ml of water or less and when the 30-day geometric mean contains less than 126 units / 100ml of water or less. Northport and Centerport Yacht Club Swim Teams Face Off

Centerport takes northport, 270 to 200., elise pearlman , neighbor.

In a tradition dating back decades, members of the Northport Yacht Club swim team traveled to Centerport Yacht Club to face off against their 'cross harbor' rivals. The 58 timed events that tested swimmers’ mettle included the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly, the individual medley (four laps in each of the aforementioned strokes) and freestyle relay races.  CYC proved victorious over Northport, 270 to 200.  Four pool records were set by CYC. Nina Lesser set a record in freestyle in the  girls 14 and under category as did Nicolette Gibbons in the girls 17 and under category. Sierra Weiner set records in girls’ 17 and under back and breaststroke categories.

The Tri-Club Champ meet, which  pits the best swimmers from NYC, CYC and the Huntington Bay Club against each other, is scheduled for Saturday, July 23 at  9 am at the Centerport Yacht Club.

Special thank you to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for hosting a panel discussion with with the young investigators whose groundbreaking research is funded by SAA grants. Watch the full video and learn more about your impact below.

The goal of the Swim Across America laboratory at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is to develop new approaches to cancer treatment through stimulating the immune system to attack cancer cells. Results from our laboratory are the basis of ongoing clinical trials at MSKCC in patients with melanoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer and lymphoma. The lab has been one of the most successful in the world at moving lab discoveries into the clinic. The SAA lab was instrumental in the development of the first Melanoma US FDA-approved drug in 13 years.

Weill Cornell Cancer Center

The Swim Across Research Laboratory at Weill Cornell Cancer Center , led by Dr. Taha Merghoub, conducts immunotherapy research and clinical trials.

centerport yacht club pool

We have been funding the important non small cell lung cancer research of Rafaella Sordella, PhD since 2008 at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory . Her lab has been able to identify a subpopulation of cells that are intrinsically resistant to both conventional and targeted therapies and are more metastatic. At the molecular level they have determined that increased activation of the TGF-beta-IL-6 axis is driving all these phenotypes. Important drugs targeting teh IL-6 signaling pathway are currently available. They are now focused on seeking to understand the efficacy of these drugs in a pre-clinical model, that will hopefully lead to the development of new lung cancer clinical trials.

centerport yacht club pool

In 2011 we began assisting in the funding of a pediatric brain cancer project directed by Marc Symons, PhD at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research of North Shore . Current therapies for the most common malignant childhood brain tumor, medulloblastoma in particular radiation therapy have long term side effects, including marked nerocognitive difficulties. Marc's lab has initiated a program to identify medulloblastoma radio-resistance genes and characterize their functions. Hopefully the identified radio-resistance genes will provide us with new drug targets for the development of more effective therapies for medulloblastoma.

Swim Across America has been funding the 'Stacey Leondis Fellowship' - research into the development of a targeted therapy for osteosarcoma, an adolescent bone cancer supervised by Dr. Richard Gorlick at Children's Hospital at Montefiore, since 2006. SAA-Nassau-Suffolk will continue funding Dr. Gorlick's research now that he is the division head and department chair of Pediatrics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital .

Date: August 14, 2018

# GiveBackTuesday  We are overwhelmed by the incredible support of the children and members of the  Centerport Yacht Club . Each year, kid members host  # lemonadestands  and collect donations leading up to their annual swim-a-thon to help grant the  # wish  of a child in  # SuffolkCounty  that is battling a critical illness.

This year, the members were proud to rally behind Aliah, a 9 year-old from  # HuntingtonStation  who battles a congenital heart defect. Aliah, whose contagious smile i s as bright as her spirit, made a wish to have a swimming pool! The children made Aliah feel right at home by sitting alongside her and showing her how excited they were to grant her most heartfelt wish.

In addition to Aliah’s heart condition, she also is challenged with microdeletion of chromosome 15, which causes her to be non-ambulatory and non-verbal. The one hobby she loves more than anything is  # swimming , which is perfect being that the pool gives Aliah the therapeutic ability to move more independently and has a strong positive impact on her physical development. Being in the water relaxes Aliah, it also enhances her emotional health.

Together, the members of CYC raised over $19,000! Our sincerest thanks Karen Bunt & Cami Gallagher for organizing this beautiful event and to all who contributed towards making Aliah’s wish come true. We are so honored and thankful of your will to give to children during a time they need it most.

Centerport Yacht Club Let's Take A Veteran Sailing

In 2015 SailAhead met with the Centerport Yacht Club team to see if we could work together to create an event to take veterans sailing. In a powerful partnership showcasing community support and solidarity with America's veterans, SailAhead and the Centerport Yacht Club have brought over 500 veterans and their family members sailing!

The event is SailAhead's largest. Over the years it has adapted and changed to include participation from many groups, including the American Legion Post 1244 Riders, dozens of homeless veterans, Marine Corps Colour Guards, volunteers from the US Merchant Marine Academy, charity bands, the families of Our Mates,  a helicopter from the Suffolk County PD, and a friendly neighborhood helicopter that flies over to take pictures!

Cooperation and leadership from the Centerport Yacht Club team has been essential in touching the lives of hundreds of veterans and community volunteers! We cannot express the true depth of our gratitude for their vital role in accomplishing our mission! We also give thanks to all of the skippers and crew, some who come from neighboring states to participate with their boats.

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In

Yacht Clubs and Marinas

FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.

Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.

Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.

Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila

Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay.
