Crescent Sail Yacht Club, MI
"Crescent", as it is known in the world of sailing, is a club exclusively for sailors. The only power boats moored at the club are workboats used for running regattas. The club's man-made harbor juts into the waters of Lake St. Clair at 276 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Crescent was founded in 1933 by a determined group of sailing and racing devotees. Their depression-era experiences had a telling effect on the concepts and principles under which Crescent functioned then and now. Founded as a sailing club for "men of moderate means" (which now includes women), Crescent has the tradition that members work eighteen hours annually for the club as part of their membership. Two annual workdays organize the effort to improve and maintain the facility. These workdays also provide the benefit of developing close friendships and camaraderie that extend into Crescent sailing activities.

Opti Learn-to-Sail - Session 1 (2 Weeks)
Get ready to set sail on an exciting adventure with Opti Learn-to-Sail! Join us for two weeks of non-stop fun and learning as you learn to sail the beautiful waters of Lake Saint Clair. This in-person event will take place at the Crescent Sail Yacht Club located on Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.
This event is designed for students ages 8 - 12. Our knowledgeable instructors will guide you through the basics of sailing and help you improve your skills. With full-day sessions, you'll have plenty of time to practice and explore the waters.
So grab your friends and get ready for an unforgettable experience. Don't miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of sailing in a safe and supportive environment. Join us for Opti Learn-to-Sail and let the wind carry you to new horizons!
This full-day class is for the beginning sailor with little or no individual sailing experience or the young junior sailor with some experience who's not yet ready for Optimist Green racing or does not want to race.
Requirements:
- No prior sailing experience needed.
- Must be comfortable around water and know how to swim.
- This class includes use of Opti Pram sailboats. Sailor weight should be less than 110 lbs; heavier/larger students should register for the 420 Learn-to-Sail Course instead.
