1. Check the Sausalito Weather: The Sausalito Yacht Club Webcam
Note: This webcam is experiencing difficulties in summer, 2022.
The webcam at the Sausalito Yacht Club (one still frame from a foggy day in 2021 is pictured above) shows the area around the Sausalito Ferry pier, panning between views of The Spinnaker , Angel Island and the San Francisco skyline. This is the best way to check what the current fog levels and weather are like in Sausalito.
This webcam was for many years the standard way to check the views in Sausalito, but eventually was disabled by fog and the influence of salt water. The Yacht Club recently installed a new system, giving all us the benefit of being able to check outside even when we’re stuck in an office with a view of the parking lot!
2. Sausalito and San Francisco Views from the Top of Mt. Tam
. KGO TV has a Sausalito webcam that looks down towards San Francisco from the top of Mt. Tamalpais. When clouds don’t obscure it the view from over 2,600 feet can be wonderful.
3. Highway 101 Webcam at Spencer Ave., Sausalito Ridgetop
This CalTrans traffic webcam shows current Highway 101 road conditions just north of the Robin Williams Tunnel . This webcam is especially useful for seeing how far traffic has backed up either direction during peak travel times.
4. Sausalito Viewed from San Francisco
The webcam at Crissy Field has several different presets, one of which is Fort Baker. After choosing this option scroll a little to the right and zoom in and you’ll see a live Sausalito webcam shot taken from the angle above.

A city in the beautiful Marin County - California
The town of Sausalito is located on the east side, the inner side, of the southern-most peninsula of the Sausalito Peninsula which itself terminates at the break in California’s Coastal Range – The Golden Gate – the gateway to the inner San Francisco Bay (Latitude 37 49.0 Longitude l22 28.69). The Pacific ocean-side of the Sausalito Peninsula runs north/south on a west-east diagonal parallel to the San Andreas Fault line. As seen from Mount Tamalpais, the highest point (257l’) looking south, the land appears to flow to the sea in ridges and rivulets -- the assemblage of so-called Franciscan rock and soil having been eroded by rain and wind, heat and cold for approximately l00 million years.
A mixture of color, texture and layered formations it is of a predominant rust color and is fragile and aromatic. On the slopes and in the canyons it is generally moist due to the underground springs. On the Sausalito-Richardson Bay city-side there are five of these small ridges flowing down from the north-south ridge called "Wolfback" and between these ridges are four canyons. The ridges form points into the Bay and are called (from south to north) Cavallo Point and Yellow Bluff, Sausalito Point, Napa Point or Hannon’s Hill, Pine Point and Waldo Point. The valleys are referred to as Old Town (Sausalito Cove or Hurricane Gulch or Whaler’s Cove or Shelter Cove), New Town (or Turney Valley), Spring Street Valley (or Woodward Valley); Nevada Street Valley (or Whiskey Springs area).
Sausalito’s first map was prepared by Lieutenant G.F. Emmons, United States Navy Surveyor on June 8, l851 and filed December 10, 1869 with the County Recorder. It is of Old Town the original settlement by Europeans. Drawn on a North-South/East-West compass grid it shows the water course coming from west to east down the middle of Main Street into the Bay at which area there is a fountain, a reservoir, a mill and a wharf at Water Street (the north-south street at water’s edge). The other north-south streets are Front, Second, Third and Fourth with Alleys between. The other east-west streets are South and Valley to the south of Main and Richardson and North to the north of Main.
Another map expanding on this basic pattern dated July 22, 1873, by Geo. H. Goddard, Civil Engineer has added notations. There is a dotted line at North Point running north "New Road to Wharf". There is a boundary line on the north side for Old Town and New Town with notations on it: "Rocky Point", "Leaning Tree" and "Scratched Stump". There are no topographical lines – the only hints given to the surrounding height are an added street called "Lower Crescent Ave.", a reservoir on "Reservoir Ave." far beyond the added "West Street" and a double dotted line labeled "Path on Bluff leading from North Street toward/into the New Town area.
Sausalito has a rich history including the original Indian inhabitants, rum running bootleggers, bohemian artists, and finally high tech businesses. A brief summary of historic facts is listed below.
- 1225 B.C. (or earlier) - 1775: The Coast Miwok Indians, Natives to the land, occupied what is now known as the Sausalito shoreline.
- 1775: The first Europeans arrived in Sausalito via the Spanish ship "San Carlos". The Europeans named Sausalito "Saucito", meaning "Little Willow" in Spanish.
- 1838: Under a land grant, William Richardson occupied almost 20,000 acres of land, which included Sausalito.
- 1875: The railroad was built through town, making Sausalito a transportation hub.
- 1893: Sausalito was incorporated September 4rh of this year.
- 1900: Sausalito acquired two ferry car services, and with prohibition Sausalito became haven to bootleggers and rum runners.
- 1941: Sausalito lost its train and car ferry services.
- 1941-1945: The Marinship shipyard operated in Sausalito producing liberty ships and tankers for World War II and invigorated the town.
- 1946-1966: This is known as the "golden age" of Sausalito because it was during this time that artists, writers, and intelligentsia discovered Sausalito and gave it its reputation as an artist colony.
- 1970: Passenger ferries returned to Sausalito bringing with them a myriad of people who inhabit and visit the town today.

The place has a kid's sailing program. I made the mistake of making him join it in winter. On day one they flipped the boat once and righted it. Then they towed them around and told them go left rudder, right rudder. On day two they took them to Peninsula Point in high gusts. They put the "new" kids in the same boats, not an experienced older child with a new one. Just two "new" kids who are 9 years old. From afar in my binoculars, all the boats were capsizing, being righted and capsizing again and again, even the older kids fared badly due to the wind. After capsizing multiple times the instructor motored over and when he asked for help and held on to her boat and the sailboat she told him "you already learned how to right the sailboat, you should have listened". Then zoomed elsewhere, leaving them to float. In the end the main instructor rushed out in another motor boat, picked up the kids and towed the sailboats. Later she gave us some excuses. As you can tell my kid has no interest in sailing again. He did write a great paper about the experience and has a catchy title. To say I am still upset a year later is an understatement..... Honestly, if the club is interested in any feedback. They should get a Hot Tub on the deck, no freezing kid wants to run around to the showers waiting for the water to warm up their freezing hands. They should also mix one veteran kid, with one beginner kid. The ratio of boats to instructors is also too high as was evident. I doubt they care much to make the changes though as there will always be another parent who reads this and says, that won't be my kid or so and so's kid was very happy there.
My kid's paper for his 4th grade school
Excellent outdoor deck - lovely view on the water. Perfect day watching the Blue Angels. Dawn is a great server.
Members only and their guests can dine here. Was fortunate to be invited by a member and enjoyed a great view, great food and very warm service. The stand outs were their fried avocado ( battered and deep fried slices of avocado) with a yummy dipping sauce. The fried calamari was really tender and one of the best I have had. I had a vodka sauce homemade sausage penne pasta and it was just perfect. The Friday prime rib was just ok. Very fatty. Came with creamed spinach and mash. The atmosphere was warm and has a higher end casual feel.
A wonderful mix of benefits for members, including a wonderful set of views dining on the deck, or inside with the multiple large windows out on the bay, plus the programs to learn how to use diverse kinds of boats, go out on the boats with friends, plus fun and impressive speakers to hear, and watch movies or participate in other special programs related to the times of the year + adjacent free parking to come in
I mainly come to the Sausalito Yacht Club on Wednesday nights for my Lions Meetings and I can tell you the food is delicious! We are served buffet style so I'm not sure what it is like to order off the menu. I have had excellent salmon, tri-tip, pulled pork, ribs, potatoes and green veggies here and would recommend all of them. The views from the inside are some of the best in Sausalito and the bartender Ern is hilarious.
A cute, petit yacht club in a picturesque town. Been there a couple of times via boat, but the guest dock is always busy and there's a two hour limit on the dock, so that prevents us to disembark and explore Sausalito. We tied up on the mooring ball and watch the shore activiites. Food review: no experiece for reasons above.
I suggest to dine in at the Sausalito Yacht Club. We have excellent food, good quality! Check out the amazing pictures that are posted of the food we serve here. They are delicious!

I just became a member... YEA!!! I have been going for the last couple of years because I have friends who are members. So finally decided to become a member myself. I love this location. It is perfect and the views are fantastic. The outdoor seating is very comfortable and the people are friendly but most importantly you can go with friends and just chill with a great view and away from the tourist crowd of Sausalito. The summer Thursday nights Bar-b-ques are to die for. A great selection of salads and side dishes and your choice of either a huge burger, grilled salmon, grilled chicken, or grilled flank steak. As good as it gets for $12.00. The Friday night dinners are great. I've been to a private party there and their in house staff did a great job with the food and service. I am now a member of a few clubs and I wish I had done this sooner in my life. I have found the clubs that I have joined the people are real and enjoy getting out and making new friends. Also if you are a member you end up having a reciprocal agreement with all the other Yacht Clubs in the area which is especially nice when the Blue Angles are in town and you visit the Golden Gate Yacht Club on the Marina in SF. The Angles fly right over the GGYC.
Like most yacht clubs (since I'm so yacht-club saavy---not) you have to be a member or know a member in order to hang here. I have the unique pleasure of dining at the SYC anytime I like since my parents are members and actually have to eat here a certain number of times a month or they get billed anyways. I must say though, it's worth sneaking in for the excellent meals, fantastically strong cocktails and killer bay deck. Their brunch is memorable, the dinner menu competes with some of the best restaurants in the city and the view can't be beat. If you're there for dinner, the rabbit is the best I've had (including a traditional spread after a hunt in outer Quebec.) On Sundays in the summer they have an incredible BBQ buffet on the deck that overlooks the bay. And it's all super relaxed and unpretentious if you can believe it. One of these days I'm going all out and getting one of those salmon colored yacht club polo shirts so New Yorkers can quizzically stare and wonder if I'm being ironic.
I've been to a wedding and have had countless dinners here in the past. Although everyone seems to be down to earth and the staff is extremely friendly I never got that yacht club feel here. I guess this is your yacht club without the stuffiness but when I'm at a yacht club I think I look forward to a little stuffiness, just a tad. Great views though. :)
