Two is better than one: at the helm with the world’s first dual Sirena 68 owner

US-based Sirena Yachts owner Willie Urbieta will soon have the accolade of being the first ever owner of two 21.4-metre Sirena 68 vessels. After previously purchasing a Sirena 58 for use in the US, the semi-retired oil executive ordered a Sirena 68 for cruising around the Mediterranean, before deciding to upgrade his Sirena 58 to a second Sirena 68 which is due for delivery in the upcoming months.

This makes Urbieta unique amongst Sirena Yachts owners, as he will soon be able to reap the benefits of his two voluminous explorers in two highly different environments. Here, Urbieta explains his rationale for choosing the Sirena 68 model, why he always docks his vessels himself, and the benefits he enjoys from his highly unusual ownership position.

A Perfect Family Boat

Urbieta’s first Sirena yacht, the Sirena 58, offered the Fort Lauderdale-based owner and his family the perfect opportunity to take delivery in Istanbul and explore the fantastic scenery of the Turkish coast and the Greek islands before taking the yacht home to dock in the US. However, in order to immerse himself fully into the boating lifestyle in south Florida and make space for his growing family, 65-year-old Urbieta felt it was time for an upgrade, as he explains:

“I spent my summers on a boat in the mid 1960s in south Florida, which was just fantastic. I wanted to go back to being part of this very particular boating culture and lifestyle as I absolutely love it, and the Sirena 68 is the perfect boat for this, due to its generous volume, ample indoor and outdoor relaxation spaces and fantastic flybridge. Another factor was size of course: I have my daughter, my son-in-law and three grandkids to consider, so I knew I was going to have to go a little bigger to accommodate everyone.”

Designed by Experts

First introduced to the market in 2021, the Sirena 68 features naval architecture and exterior design by world-renowned Argentinian designer, Germán Frers, with interiors by the experienced Dutch superyacht designer, Cor D. Rover, who together provide the ideal combination of design flair and build expertise.

With ample space to house Urbieta’s growing family, the Sirena 68 offers accommodation for up to eight guests, including a master suite amidships, as well as boasting the largest flybridge deck in her class. A crew of two is also housed on board the Sirena 68, which comprises a captain and a stewardess on Urbieta’s current yacht. Despite having a captain, this owner, who has been passionate about boating since his 20s, also emphasises his preference for operating the boat himself at key moments.

“I have to say, I really do enjoy docking my own boat,” says Urbieta. “Of course, there is always a risk of making a mistake, so I make use of a yacht controller, but once I’m outside the dock and out of the marina, I let the captain take charge so that I can fully relax with my family and friends.”

Top Performance, Top Comfort

The Sirena 68 sports a resin-infused hull combined with a lightweight high-tech carbon fibre superstructure and hard top produced by Sirena Yachts’ in-house engineering department, which offer numerous benefits for its performance. These include improving onboard stability, reducing fuel consumption and providing the yacht with a longer range and higher speed.

Urbieta explains that onboard comfort is a priority for any boat in his fleet: “When I buy a yacht from Sirena Yachts, I get as many extras as possible to make the boat as comfortable as it can be. I choose to have gyros, fins, DPS (dynamic position satellites), a yacht controller and an extra station on the outside to help me dock the boat. Spending time on the boat is what makes me happy and my real passion, so I am keen to make it the best possible experience.”

Performance is Key

Urbieta also has some substantial travel plans in the pipeline for his new Sirena 68, including exploring Saint Martin, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands and more. Thankfully, the Sirena 68 is well suited for such adventures. Built to CE Category A certification (the highest certification for recreation craft under 24 metres), the semi displacement yacht is capable of reaching top speeds of 26 knots with the 1,000 horsepower Volvo D13s option, and cruises comfortably at 20-21 knots.

An Owner’s Favourite Spots

When asked to name his favourite areas of his current Sirena 68, Urbieta first highlights his onboard office area. “It is wonderful being able to work on board – my office is right where the windshield of the boat is, next to the helm. I have my computer and my printer there and it is perfect. Every time I go into a different port, I can enjoy a different view from where I am working.”

Secondly, Urbieta also highlights the benefits of the Sirena 68’s famously spacious flybridge for hosting groups of family and friends. “When I was visiting Spain, I had a lot of relatives who I didn’t know very well, so I got them together and hosted all 30 of them together on the flybridge and we just had the most amazing time together. I love the social element of the boating lifestyle which has been enabled by owning these Sirena Yachts. People are drawn to lovely boats, and this brings so many likeminded people together who derive pleasure from being out on the water.”

A Future Upsize?

As for the future, although Urbieta is very content with his current fleet, he wouldn’t say ‘never’ to another Sirena upgrade. “I am very happy with my two Sirena 68s, but you never know, in a few years I might sell them and go for a bigger yacht because I am so passionate about boating. Sirena Yachts work extremely hard to make the customer happy.”

Sirena Yachts’ superyacht range: new details unveils

Sirena Yachts has revealed details about how sophisticated space management and radical design thinking will characterise its new range of 35-50m superyachts. The boats were unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, where the Turkish shipyard promised to maximise the on-board experience for owners and guests. Now it has shone a spotlight on features like the unique private owner’s patio, mullion-less windows and the vast, flexible beach club area.

These yachts are bursting with fresh ideas and unashamedly tailored for the next generation of yacht owners. But Sirena Yachts has also built on the run-away success of its smaller Sirena models, whose bold lines and smart use of space are widely recognised. Connoisseurs will spot the towering bows and long, elegant line of the bulwarks; dark glazing contrasting with the flawless white hull.

“The new range had to be sporty and elegant with some reference to the Sirena Yachts production designs. It had to be a timeless design,” said CCO Ali Onger . “Like our smaller yachts, the superyacht range is pitched at owners who love to spend time on the water with friends and their family.”

Fresh, informal styling is echoed by the use of space, which favours open entertaining areas, large external relaxing zones and the unique owner’s suite at the front of the superstructure. “The pearl of these yachts, particularly the 42m and 50m, is the forward patio,” said Luca Vallebona , the designer responsible for developing these yachts with the Sirena Yachts team. “This small, almost architectural feature hidden inside the hull on the main deck is a private, open-air space dedicated to the owners. It is very special.”

Dappled in sunlight, ringed with soothing plants, this private oasis receives natural light from above and from the side. Freestanding seating makes this a fine spot for a morning coffee, or for receiving guests in perfect privacy – even as you’re moored in the heart of the harbour. On the two larger boats, there is a Jacuzzi here, as well as steps up to the main deck, where the owner again benefits from a dedicated forward lounge area, with deep, comfy sofas, away from prying eyes.

Naturally enough there’s a larger pool aft for guest use. It stands slightly above the deep bathing platform, the focus of a space that grows dramatically when the two bulwarks are folded down, creating twin balconies just above the sea. The effect is dramatic on the 50m; but on the 35m it is nothing short of transformative. The yard likens this area to a private beach resort, and the figures speak for themselves. Altogether, the aft deck on 35m amounts to 85 square metres; on the 50m yacht, it is a vast 140 square metres.

But the flagship also has another jewel in its crown. “The main and upper deck cockpits are visually connected by a double-height space close to the saloon entrances,” explained Vallebona . “This space could be hung with plants or a giant sculpture, creating a common thread – a sinuous passage from the main deck to the upper deck cockpit. Verticality is a dimension that is not so often seen on a yacht, especially in a 50m.”

Clients are able to customise their yachts to an incredible degree, while still benefiting from the faster build times and lower costs of a ready-developed technical platform. It would be easy to find room for a gym – outside on the sundeck, for instance, or close to the pool. But the scale of these yachts means that there is plenty of room inside as well.

Recognising that younger owners are more enthusiastic about water sports, Sirena has designed in very generous storage space for a large tender and toys. On the flagship, there is garaging for two tenders, two jetskis and a range of boards, but even the 35m can fit a large crew/guest tender and the all-important jetskis on the foredeck.

“We have been overwhelmed by the wave of positive response to our new superyacht designs,” said Onger . “With this latest step, we have cemented our product line-up in every segment of the boating market. We have been prudent, so it has taken Sirena Yachts 17 years to build up to this point, but we are proud to say that our reputation speaks loudly for itself.”

The new Sirena superyacht line will feature exteriors by Luca Vallebona and naval architecture by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, with the interior designs of each vessel fully customisable to meet the requirements and desires of each individual owner within the selection of Sirena Superyachts renowned interior designers or with a freedom to bring any studio to create their bespoke dream superyacht.

A small boat with big features: Here’s what the Sirena 68 has to offer

Just six months after its official presentation, the Sirena 68 had sold 20 units. Celebrations were in order for Turkish shipbuilder Sirena, whose combination of compact design, thoughtful layout and high scope of customisation had created a winning product in the Sirena 68.

The 21.4-metre yacht was designed for extended cruising and carries lines by German Frers with a fresh and contemporary interior by Cor D. Rover. It’s this design that gives the owners of the Sirena 68 the feeling they own a much larger yacht – but how? Here, the yard and the design team reveal all…

Standout qualities

Like all Sirena yachts, the 68 features a hull that delivers in both efficiency and performance. Just by looking at the semi-displacement hull lines by German Frers, it is clear that the Sirena 68 is a comfortable yacht that can go far. “The goal of the Sirena 68 hull design was to offer efficiency at speeds ranging from long-range cruising to planing. A slippery hull with minimal appendage drag gave the range the numbers we were looking for, while optional power choices increase the top end,” says Frers.

This hull type and yacht design are ideal for any kind of owner, from experienced yachtsmen to first-time owners looking to upgrade. “The Sirena 68 brings together all the qualities that experienced owners would seek in a new yacht – essentially an upgrade in comfort and confidence in all areas,” says Sirena’s chief commercial officer Ali Onger.

Another quality that a growing number of owners enjoy about the Sirena 68 is the level of detail in the design. “The vibe of the Sirena 68 starts with the details. When each person steps aboard, their eyes come to rest on a facet or a fabric, an accent or an angle, some hint that lets them know they’re welcome in a way that is somehow simultaneously familiar and new,” adds Onger.

Lifestyle focused

The yard continuously develops its products to meet the changing ways in which yachts are used and enjoyed. This ambition ensures that Sirena yachts are built with high-quality innovations and unique features, and perform well – a package that has appealed to many discerning buyers.

One way Sirena has altered its design to suit its owners’ lifestyles is by upgrading the galley. “As cooking becomes more and more central on board, the open galley concept has become a focal point in the saloon,” says the Dutch designer Cor D. Rover. The galley is reached through the main saloon, where the dining area is connected to the open-plan kitchen. “Immediately noticeable is the play of light in this bright and dynamic space from the large windows that draw the eye to the ever-changing views,” adds Rover.

“By taking the design of the galley to the next level and integrating it into the overall design concept, it stands out in terms of functionality and becomes a relaxed gathering place for family and guests.” Forward of the galley is a large U-shaped sofa where family and friends can get together while at the helm station nearby, the owner-operator can still be included in the social activities on board.

Maximised layout

Not only is the Sirena 68’s hull shape optimised for performance, but has given way to an impressive volume and interior layout. The layout has been designed to maximise the onboard experience for the owners and their guests. “A new general arrangement on the Sirena 68 provides a larger main deck area with full-height saloon windows and a transparent bulwark opening,” says Frers. “The beautiful panoramic view of the Sirena 68 is breathtaking; the large windows on all sides keep us in touch with what is around us. And makes the interior look and feels spacious and easily accessible,” adds Rover.

The layout of the lower deck includes the master stateroom, which takes advantage of the full 5.9-metre beam and comes with his-and-hers bathrooms. The guest accommodation is completed by a twin and a VIP cabin in the bow, both with ensuite bathrooms.

On deck, the forward area has been arranged with sunpads, seating and a table for sunbathing, relaxed and dining alfresco. The hull dimensions have also allowed for a flybridge area, the widest in the class. Protected by a hard top, there is an option for the space to be enclosed for better protection from colder conditions. Here, owners and guests can dine, drink and socialise with unobstructed views of the surroundings.

Customisation options

Being a yard known for its high levels of customisation, Sirena offers a range of options for the Sirena 68 to be adapted to better suit her owner. One of the most important customisations for an owner is their choice of colour and material combinations. With three options available by Cor D. Rover, the first Sirena 68 featured light honey-coloured wood and soft semi-gloss lacquer for a serene and elegant ambience. The other two interior options include a more masculine look with bold dark wood and anthracite lacquer, and a contemporary style with white leathers and soft fabrics.

Once the interior style and layout are chosen, Sirena can complete a new-build in 10 months. “Of the multiple yachts we complete each year, no two are exactly the same,” says Onger. “The general style of the Sirena 68 is elegant and purposeful, the engineering platform is well tested, and hull form is sea kindly. The unprecedented sales since the model was announced is proof that Sirena’s customised approach to production boat building continues to be a hit with owners in the market for mid-size motor cruisers.”

Sirena Yachts 78

The Sirena Yachts 78 treads a fine line between modern and traditional. The yacht’s square stem, superstructure glazing and rectangular hull windows mark this model as thoroughly modern. Yet the curves and sweeps of the sheer, coachroof and transom, and the deep bulwarks, suggest something more timeless.

In many respects, this design is defined by what owners will want to do with the upper deck. The Sirena 78 is highly flexible in that regard. It can be specified with a conventional open flybridge—with or without a hardtop—in which case access is via stairs from the cockpit. Or, two-thirds of the upper deck can be partially or fully enclosed, with a second stairway from the main salon. With the space fully enclosed, this yacht effectively becomes a mini trideck with a sky lounge.

Sirena Yachts 78 front

The first 78, which I got aboard, has the semi-enclosed setup. For many owners, this will be the best of both worlds. The choice will largely depend on how much time an owner prefers to spend in the air conditioning; the outdoor spaces are great for fresh air, with a full upper-deck overhang that protects the cockpit and side decks. The bow terrace has a sun bed immediately forward of the bridge windows, with a pair of sofas and pedestal tables beyond.

In the main salon, there’s a super-size lounge to port and an island galley amidships with a dining area forward of there. The main deck on Hull No. 1 has an open floor plan, and all I could see from there were the views beyond. That panorama is spectacular. Save for a fridge-freezer and some cabinetry in the galley, the vistas are virtually uninterrupted. There’s no lower helm to get in the way, either, although for those who prefer some segmentation, an enclosed galley is possible.

Sirena Yachts 78 interior

Like its sisterships, the Sirena 78’s interior design is by Cor D. Rover in the Netherlands. Three contemporary schemes are offered: Inspiration, Serenity and Elegance. Hull No. 1 has Inspiration, which provides a calm ambience with light-oak veneers. The Serenity scheme is a little richer and warmer, while the Elegance vibe is darker and more traditional.

Belowdecks are four en suite staterooms, all connected via a centerline corridor. The owner’s stateroom is amidships, occupies the full 21-foot-4-inch beam, has full-width hull windows on either side, and has a forward-facing king berth on centerline. His-and-hers heads are connected by a central shower stall, with the whole space serving as a sound barrier between the sleeping area and engine room. Alternatively, owners can trade one of the heads for a walk-in closet.

Sirena Yachts 78 interior

To me, the VIP is the nicest stateroom aboard. Tucked into the bow, it has an asymmetrical layout with an inboard-facing double berth to port that’s set at a transverse angle of around 30 degrees, which means it gets a proper view out the starboard-side window. A lounge here will make a great reading nook.

In between the master and VIP are two twin-berth guest staterooms. The starboard one shares its facilities as the day head.

The transom conceals quarters for three crew, although I think two crew would be sufficient for most uses. Owners can select single- or double-berth layouts. The nearby hydraulic platform will accommodate a 14-foot tender.

Sirena Yachts 78

Hull No. 1 of the Sirena 78 has 1,550 hp MAN V-12 diesels on V-drives—neither the biggest nor the smallest motors available with this model. Other choices are twin 1,400 hp or twin 1,800 hp MANs, which the builder says produce top speeds of 24 and 29 knots, respectively. When we went out to sea with 50 percent fuel, 60 percent water and about 30 people, the yacht topped out just north of 25 knots.

The 78’s semidisplacement hull is all new for this model, but in terms of shape, it’s an evolution of the smaller and bigger Germán Frers-drawn Sirenas, which always perform predictably. The props spin in half-tunnels, and there is such a smooth delivery of power that it can be deceptive just how quickly you are cruising.

Sirena Yachts 78 interior

Underway, I found the steering a little heavy and the handling rather sprightly. Humphree electric-fin stabilizers were engaged the entire time, leaving very little heel in even the tightest turns. Gyrostabilization is an option.

With the V-12s spinning at 1,000 rpm, the yacht registered a slow chug, just shy of 10 knots. Allowing for a 10 percent reserve, that means a working range of around 1,200 nautical miles and a consistent fuel burn of 1.7 gallons per nautical mile. Double things up to 2,000 rpm, and the maximum speed will be around 21 knots, with fuel burn a little over 55 gallons per nautical mile and a working range of 400 nm.

At least the first four Sirena 78s are already sold: two with semi-enclosed flybridges, one fully enclosed and one with an open fly. Clearly, the flexibility of this model is one of its highlights.

Sirena Yachts 78 from above

On the Rise

Sirena Yachts in Turkey was founded in 2006. Having built smaller motoryacht models for Azimut in its earliest days, as well as various sailboat ranges of its own, the yard has been building under the Sirena brand for six years. It offers a range of composite models from Argentinian yacht designer Germán Frers. Already there are around 100 Sirenas in service worldwide.

Sirena Yachts is preparing to enter the alloy superyacht market. The yard has developed three trideck platforms: the 115-foot Sirena 35-Meter, 138-foot 42-Meter and 164-foot 50-Meter, all based on fast-displacement hulls developed by Van Oossanen in the Netherlands. These yachts will be offered with Van Oossanen’s Hull Vane technology, and with conventional or hybrid propulsion. Exterior styling is by Italian designer Luca Vallebona, with owner’s-choice interiors. A new production site in Yalova, south of Istanbul, is being  constructed to build these steel-aluminum designs. The first 50-Meter hull should start this year.

Origin Story

The first Sirena 56/58 and Sirena 64 paved the way for the brand in 2017. These models have since been joined by the new-in-2021 Sirena 68 and the 3-year-old and present flagship, the Sirena 88. This latest Sirena 78 adds to the lineup.

Palm Beach International Boat Show

For superyacht shoppers, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, kicking off its four-day run this week, is set to break records with more than 60 yachts over 100 feet long on display. Last year was also a banner year for superyachts at the show.

Headliners will include the likes of the 295-foot Corsair Nero ,  the 278-foot Victorious by AKYacht, the 230-foot Turquoise-built Talisman C , and 213-foot Benetti Triumph among brokerage yachts, and in new yachts, the 113-foot Ocean Alexander Puro 35 is making its world debut.

There are so many gleaming white vessels over 100 feet, in fact, that the fleet will be split between the Palm Harbor Marina at the main show site on the downtown West Palm Beach waterfront and the Safe Harbor Rybovich Marina two miles north.

Now in its 42nd year, PBIBS will also showcase hundreds of models of dayboats, cruisers, and fishing boats, as well as marine accessories. Running from this Thursday through Sunday, the show coincides with the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show, a fortuitous opportunity for yacht owners wanting to add new art to their collections.

Here are 10 must-see boats at this year’s show.

Corsair Yachts ‘Nero’

The undisputed star of this year’s Palm Beach show? That would be the 295-foot, classically styled superyacht Nero , built in 2007 and inspired by American financier J.P. Morgan’s legendary 1930s steamer Corsair IV . Nero ‘s attendance at PBIBS marks its return to the charter market after an extensive refit in 2021. Now better than new, the boat is being managed by Burgess. With weekly charter rates from $497,000, the vessel offers five-star accommodations for 12 guests in six cabins, with pampering from a crew of 20. Part of the refit included a full interior refresh by Italian interior designer Laura Pomponi, plus a major focus on wellness. That meant the construction of a new, state-of-the-art gym and spa, the assistance of a certified onboard trainer, a masseuse and beautician. After PBIBS, Nero will spend the winter in the Caribbean before returning to the Med for the summer season.

Ocean Alexander Puro 35P

sirena yachts owner

Ocean Alexander is debuting the first of its new Puro superyacht series at PBIBS. The 113-foot Puro 35P comes from the drawing board of Italian designer Giorgio M. Cassetta and is a step back from the polarizing lines of OA’s recent Revolution and Explorer series with their bold, vertical bow designs. Aimed at long-distance cruising, the 35P can carry over 5,000 gallons of fuel and is powered by twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s for a 24-knot top speed. Twin 55kW Kohler generators can also keep the yacht powered at anchor for long periods. Other standout features include extensive glazing in the chiseled fiberglass hull, a forward deck plunge pool, and spacious accommodations for 10 guests.

Think of it as the “starter” Sirena. Aimed at a younger demographic, the Turkish builder’s brand-new Sirena 48 is making its U.S. debut at PBIBS after a global reveal at last fall’s Cannes boat show. Such is its appeal that 27 hulls have already been sold, with 13 of the orders coming from North America. Looking like a scaled-down version of Sirena’s popular 58, its distinctive, trawler-style lines are from Argentinian designer Germán Frers. With more interior space than a typical 48-footer, the yacht offers three staterooms—plus a crew cabin—a spacious, light-filled salon, a large cockpit, an oversized flybridge, and a vast forward social area. Take your pick from twin 550 hp Cummins QSB, or 670 hp Volvo D11 turbo diesels. Or the builder is also offering hybrid power with twin 285 hp electric motors charged up by variable-speed generators that are good for a 30-mile battery-only range.

Feadship ‘Olympus’

sirena yachts owner

Picture purchasing a classic 180-foot Feadship superyacht, and then getting a $10 million bill for a major refit. That was the case with Olympus , built by the Dutch masters at Feadship in 1996 to a design by Britain’s Andrew Winch and the celebrated naval architect Frits De Voogt. Sold in 2022, the new owner sent it to the Monaco Marine refit center in La Ciotat, France for a major makeover. It included overhauling the 2,600 hp Caterpillar engines and generators, repairs to the structure, substantial upgrades to the guest areas and crew quarters, and new paint throughout. With the work completed just last year, the vessel is said to be in mint condition. Offered jointly by brokers Fraser and Edmiston, Olympus has an asking price of $28.5 million. With accommodations for 16 guests in eight cabins, the boat’s highlights include two primary suites, tropical-spec air conditioning, and Palm Beach-chic decor.

Benetti ‘Triumph’

sirena yachts owner

Italian yachting powerhouse Benetti is showing off its superyacht-building skills with the 213-foot Triumph . Delivered in 2021, this Giorgio M. Cassetta-designed steel-and-aluminum world girder features six decks, a 1,400-square-foot primary suite with outdoor terrace and adjoining lounge, a 750-square-foot beach club, and a touch-and-go helipad. What sets Triumph apart, however, is its lavish interior furnishings put together by the owner along with Benetti Interior Style and Monaco-based Green & Mingarelli Design. It includes pieces by French glassmaker Lalique, marble from Marfil, Statuario and Armani, furs, silk and wool carpets, plus a collection of cool black-and-white wildlife photographs by British fine art photographer David Yarrow. The pièce de résistance? That would be the owner’s Triumph Bonneville motorcycle displayed in the salon.

Fjord 39 XP/XL

sirena yachts owner

Germany’s Fjord Yachts, part of the Hanse Group, has a new 39-foot day boat that it’s unveiling at the Palm Beach show. The 39 XP and XL keep all the bold design cues of the bigger Fjord 41 XP and XL, like a big, open cockpit, walkaround center console, vertical bow, mile-high windshield and stretched hardtop. As for the differences between the XP and XL, it’s all about power. The XL comes with a choice of twin 320hp Volvo D4 diesels, or bigger 440 hp D6 versions, both with Volvo stern drives. Likely more appealing to U.S. buyers will be the XP powered by twin 400 hp Mercury Verado V10 outboards giving a 50-knot top speed. Pricing starts at around $500,000.

Turquoise ‘Talisman C’

sirena yachts owner

Chandeliers don’t come more dramatic than this. Cascading down the central spiral staircase of the Turkish-built, 231-foot superyacht Talisman C , this jaw-dropping piece of art comprises an array of multi-colored glass balls threaded on stainless-steel rods and illuminated by hanging fiber-optic strands. It’s the creation of Prague-based Crystal Caviar and is one of a number of glass installations on this sleek, low-profile superyacht. Built in 2011 by the Proteksan Turquoise shipyard, Talisman C was designed inside and out by London-based studio H2 Yacht Design, with naval architecture by Italy’s Hydro Tec. With cabins for 12 guests, one of its highlights is a huge primary suite, which boasts more crystal chandeliers and a private library. Twin 2,447 hp Caterpillar diesels give a top speed of 18 knots and a transatlantic range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. It’s listed with Burgess for $59.9 million.

Sanlorenzo 44 ‘Kamakasa’

sirena yachts owner

Delivered in 2020 and sold to a new buyer just last August, the 146-foot Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy Kamakasa will be for sale at PBIBS. The asking price, through the Italian Yacht Group, is $23.75 million. Lack of use might also be the issue here; the yacht’s twin 2,600 hp MTU V16 diesels have a mere 289 hours on the clock. Built in aluminum to a design by Rome-based Zuccon International Project, Kamakasa was the second hull in the Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy series. One of the top features is a primary suite that spans three levels and almost 1,600 square feet; it also comes with a private Jacuzzi, separate bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a private study. The yacht’s lightweight construction and MTU power combine to deliver an impressive 20-knot top speed.

Bahama 41 GT2

sirena yachts owner

As ultimate, reel-’em-in, fishing center consoles go, the Bahama 41 from West Palm Beach-based Bahama Boat Works is as hard-core as they come. But when owners kept asking for a little more comfort for the family, the builder responded. The result is the brand-new flagship 41 GT debuting at PBIBS. While the proven, wave-slicing hull stays the same, the cockpit layout is new. In place of the single bench seat, there are now three-across bucket seats with a second row behind. The wider console now has space for a pair of 22-inch Garmin screens, while the new extended hardtop features sun shades and even a rain shower. Outboard choices stay the same with either twin Mercury V12 600s, or four 400 hp Mercury V10s, good for a 65-knot-plus top speed. Pricing is from around $920,000.

Heesen ‘Book Ends’

sirena yachts owner

Launched in 2022, this 164-foot Heesen is part of the Book Ends collection, owned by an American couple who have had more than 18 yachts with the same name. The exterior design of this Heesen was by Omega Architects, while Dutch studio Van Oossanen did the naval architecture. The yacht is part of Heesen’s fast cruising series, which is more efficient than other vessels its size, and can reach 23 knots at full speed with its MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. The yacht is listed through Ocean Independence for 42 million Euro, or about $45.7 million.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

Thames 'mystery' boat-owner faces costs of nearly £1,400

High fine sends warning message to those with unregistered boats. Patrols on Thames have already begun for summer 2024.

sirena yachts owner

Not a wee fine for The Wee Lamb. after owner fails to register boat.

A Reading-based boat-owner has been convicted and fined for failing to register his boat for use on the River Thames.

Environment Agency officers discovered an unnamed boat moored opposite Reading Marine Services during routine checks in August last year.

As the boat was unmarked, it was impossible to carry out a check on the National Licensing System (NLS), the database containing the details of all the vessels registered on the non-tidal Thames. Warning notices were affixed to the boat requiring the owner to notify the Environment Agency with personal details, a valid registration and insurance within 28 days.

No correspondence was received, but in September, the Environment Agency was given intelligence that the vessel was called The Wee Lamb and belonged to Michael Toner, of Oxford Road, in Reading. The NLS showed the vessel to be unregistered, a situation that continued through to December.

Reading magistrates’ court was told that Toner had skipped the annual £280.04 registration fee, determined by the length and width of the boat. Including costs and compensation, he was required to pay a total of £1,399.04.

Colin Chiverton, environment manager at the Environment Agency in the Thames Valley, said:

Toner operated an unmarked vessel – you can’t do that with a car and the same rules apply with a boat. He had from August to December to make things right, though we received no correspondence at all. We’re delighted with this fine, which sends a clear warning to all unregistered boat owners – it’s just not worth the risk. If you have an unregistered boat on the Thames, you should know that our enforcement teams are already out patrolling the river, checking for valid registrations.

Renewal invitation letters for 2024 registrations were sent in the winter to everyone that registered their boat last year. The Environment Agency’s approach to non-registration has changed for this season - once a summons has been issued, it won’t stop court proceedings, even if the boat owner pays their registration fee.

Similar to excise duty for road vehicles, boat registration fees allow the Environment Agency to manage and maintain more than 600 miles of inland waterways across England, keeping them open and safe for thousands of boaters.

Michael Toner did not attend the hearing in Reading magistrates’ court on 15 March 2024 with regard to breaching the Environment Agency (Inland Waterways) Order 2010. He was fined £600 with a victim surcharge of £240. The costs were £270 and the outstanding boat registration fee was £280.04 for 1 January to 31 December 2023.

Background:

  • Owners of powered or non-powered boats, including paddleboards, must register their boats annually with the Environment Agency for use on the non-tidal River Thames.
  • Boat registration on the Thames starts on 1 January every year. Any boats found on the water after that date, without having registered, may be liable to a fine.
  • On 31 August 2023, during a river-wide census, Environment Agency officers recorded the locations of 11,310 boats on the river.
  • Boats can be registered by calling 03708 506 506 or going to River Thames: boat registration and application forms - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock

  • The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
  • The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
  • Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.

Insider Today

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Related stories

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8.

The Harbor Police told Business Insider that Holt decided to press charges against Thakore and that they are investigating the incident.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."
