Manila Yacht Club

Manila Yacht Club is the only member-owned yacht club in Manila Philippines and the oldest yacht club in all of Asia. The Manila Yacht Club was established in 1927, but its history dates back to an affluent time when our first members were the officers and men of  James C. Rockwell, Joseph A. Thomas, Aubrey P. Ames, Stewart A. Taite and A.S. Heyward.

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In

Yacht Clubs and Marinas

FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.

Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.

Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.

Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila

Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.

Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales

The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.

Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas

Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.

Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro

Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.

Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan

Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.

Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo

Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.

Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu

The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO

Holiday Oceanview Marina, Samal Island, Davao del Norte

The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length. The well-guarded and weather-safe marina is a gateway to some of Mindanao’s finest attractions, such as the Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls, and Giant Clam Sanctuary.

There’s no better way to discover the Philippines from end to end than getting onboard a seaworthy vessel and going on a long cruise, with stops in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Find a safe harbor in any of these major clubs and marinas, and participate in the renaissance of sailing in the Philippines.

Punta Fuego / Maya Maya, Batangas

Tali Beach

Punta Fuego and Maya Maya are a good day-sailing distance South of Subic Bay – about 50 miles – and offer a good stopover, especially in the northeast monsoon season (November to May). This area is mostly visited during the northeast monsoon but is a little exposed during the southwest monsoon, but is still safe for pleasure yachts except when there is a typhoon in the area.

Marinas In Punta Fuego / Maya Maya

Punta fuego yacht club.

The Punta Fuego Yacht Club is located on the southern shore of the Punta Fuego peninsular and has a breakwater to protect the marina from southwesterly breezes. The Punta Fuego Yacht Club provides pontoon berths for members and for visitors. There is usually limited space for visiting yachts. Both sailing yachts and motor yachts are welcome but prior arrangement is recommended if you intend to use a pontoon berth.

The Punta Fuego Yacht Club marina is considered to be typhoon safe from the perspective of the wind, but the breakwater has been topped on occasions (causing damage to the pontoons) when a passing storm is generating a large southwesterly swell. If using a yacht club mooring or anchoring in the bay immediately East of the marina berthing area then beware that lightning strikes have happened in recent past with significant consequences.

The Punta Fuego Yacht Club is an active sailing club and organizes a couple of regatta events each year during the northeast monsoon period. The yacht club is primarily a place for Club Punta Fuego home owners to keep their yachts. However, it is welcoming to visitors and offers a restaurant and accommodation. Club Punta Feugo homes are designed by/for the super-rich, so shore facilities are generally higher priced than most other places in the Philippines.

Visit the Punta Fuego Yacht Club website: www.clubpuntafuego.com.ph/yacht-club/

Maya Maya Marina

The Maya Maya marina is located about 1.5 miles ESE of Punta Fuego Yacht Club and is probably the prettiest marina in the Philippines. However, the marina is not a fully functional marina insomuch as there are very limited shore facilities unless by prior arrangement. This small marina is part of the former Maya Maya Yacht Club (currently inactive) and offers a dozen or so Mediterranean-style, stern-too moorings. Limited, basic facilities ashore.

The current challenge offered at this marina is the entrance channel, which has not been dredged for a number of years and only offers around two meters depth at high tide. However, once inside, the marina is considered typhoon safe.

There are plans to develop the marina and expand its capacity but the plans have been slow to produce action to date . . . watch this space.

Papaya Cove

If you want to haul-out for repair then a good place is at Papaya Yacht Charter Services ("PYCS") – about 3.5 miles NE of the Punta Fuego peninsular. PYCS has a travel-lift that can haul-out most pleasure yachts (not catamarans). A few moorings have been installed and there are plans to install more moorings and a small marina within the bay fronting PYCS.

The hardstand can only accommodate a dozen of so yachts at a time so prior arrangement is essential. PYCS offers most services for yachts requiring repairs but they do not stock many materials, so there is usually a wait of a day or two to have materials delivered from Metro Manila. Prior arrangements can be made so that a suitable stock of materials is available upon arrival.

There are currently only limited facilities available at PYCS for dining and other needs although they have recently created crew-rooms for overnight stays ashore . . . you can always take a trip inot Nasugbu town for supplies, ATM and other needs.

Visit the Papaya Yacht Charter Services website: www.pycsi.com

Anchoring In Punta Fuego / Maya Maya

Anchoring within the Punta Fuego / Maya Maya area is possible almost everywhere. During a northeast monsoon, particularly good anchorage will be found in the vicinity of the Maya Maya marina – sandy bottom, good holding, no obstructions, choose your preferred depth.

Another popular achorage is off Tali Beach (see image at page top). Tali beach is located between the Punta Fuego and Maya Maya marinas and is quite sheltered except from the South. Good holding mostly on sand but there are a couple of shallow areas close to shore that are quite obvious.

While at anchor in most places it is common for fisherfolk to pass by, especially around breakfast time, offering fresh fish and lobster caught locally . . . with a little negotiation you can get a good feast for not too much money.

Transport In Punta Fuego / Maya Maya

There is no public transport around Punta Fuego / Maya Maya but hire cars or motorcycles can be arranged by the marinas and resorts in the area. About the only place you might want to go is to the town of Nasugbu, where there is a substantial fresh produce market and a modest, almost-supermarket.

There is a frequent and efficient air-conditioned bus service from Nasugbu town to Metro Manila and to Tagaytay – overlooking the dramatic Taal volcano and picturesque Taal Lake.

Nasugbu town is also the closest place where banks have ATMs that are connected to international networks and are usually working.

5 Top Yacht Clubs Near Manila

5 Top Yacht Clubs Near Manila

December 18, 2018

Whether you’re exploring islands, swimming in the country’s bluest waters, or simply appreciating one of the world’s most spectacular sunsets, a boat is a luxury worth having. This is especially true if you live and work in Manila, an exciting and vibrant city but also one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

There are a variety of yacht clubs in or near Manila where you can berth your boat or yacht and mingle with fellow sailors and enthusiasts. These are exclusive clubs that cater to your lifestyle, providing services that make your sailing all the more enjoyable and fun. Listed below are the top 5 yacht clubs, in terms of popularity.

Manila Yacht Club (°33.865’N, 120°58.833’E)

One of Asia’s oldest yacht club is located at Manila Bay. This exclusive club can accommodate   larger yachts , and they regularly organize regattas to promote boating culture in the country. One of the major sailing events the club participates in is the President’s Cup Regatta. As a member of the Manila Yacht Club, you get to enjoy exclusive benefits such as sailing lessons and the use of their dining facilities.

Subic Bay Yacht Club (N14° 49.20’ E120° 17.45’)

This marina country club is located north west of Manila at the province of Zambales. It lies in the tranquil Subic Bay with the Zambales Mountain range protecting it from typhoon winds. It’s considered to be one of the safest harbors with serene waters all year long. As one of the biggest marinas in the country, it can safely berth up to 178-foot long yachts. The club offers exclusive accommodations, dining, and other recreational facilities.

Puerto Galera Yacht Club (N13° 30.75’ E120° 57.25’)

Located at the province of Oriental Mindoro, Puerto Galera is one of the nearest vacation destinations from Manila. The yacht club is situated inside a natural typhoon shelter. This makes it one of the safest marinas for your boat, especially with the country’s erratic weather conditions. The yacht club hosts annual regattas that coincide with the country’s different holidays such as the All Souls Regatta and the Christmas/New Year Regatta. In addition, although officially a membership club, PGYC is open to the public and welcomes everyone with an interest in sailing, including beginners and enthusiasts interested in the art of sailing, offering courses on the subject.

Punta Fuego Yacht Club (N14° 07.79’ E120° 35.39’)

Punta Fuego is a relatively new, members-only beach resort located in Nasugbu, Batangas. The resort includes a yacht club with 30 berths and 150 parking spots for trailers. Amenities include a chandlery, fuel station, chart room, lockers, and shower rooms. With a club membership, you will be free to access the resort’s other facilities such as dining, casitas, golf course, spa, and more.

Taal Lake Yacht Club

Situated at the north shore of the famous Taal Lake, you’d have to haul your boat to a trailer to get it into the lake. But all the trouble is worth it for the unique and absolute serenity the place offers. The club provides boat storage for powerboats and sailboats. Although officially a membership club, they are open to the public and offer everyone the chance to experience the sailing lifestyle. The ultimate aim of the club is to promote sailing and sustainable ecotourism in the country.

There are many benefits of joining a yacht club. For one, you can expand your connections and network with influential people from the top rungs of Philippine society. Opportunities could open up for your business, and new friendships could develop from a common interest in sailing and yachting. Next, the expensive membership will “force” you to make time for recreation, leading to a healthier lifestyle and closer family bonds. Finally, you’ll get to learn more about sailing and yachting, which will hopefully inspire you to go on future adventures with your boat.

Whether you’re still going through the process of choosing a boat that you can call your own, or you’re now exploring the many berthing options available to a yacht owner like you, Europa Yachts can help you.
