Unsere Y9 ist einzigartig und jede einzelne Y9 ist es auch. Vor allem ist sie so individuell wie unsere Kunden selbst, denn ihr Layout und ihre Ausstattung sind vollkommen variabel. Ergänzend dazu bietet die Y9 auf 90 Fuß das Volumen einer 100-Fuß-Yacht, die in drei spannenden Versionen erhältlich ist - Y9, Y9 Pilot House, Y9 Custom.

Das Hauptaugenmerk der Y9-Eigner liegt darauf, Zeit mit Familie und Freunden an Bord zu verbringen. Daher ist die 90-Fuß-Carbon-Luxusyacht auch mit einer kleinen Crew leicht zu segeln. Ihr Innendesign übertrifft die Wünsche der meisten Eigner nach einer Familienyacht mit ausreichend Privatsphäre, während sie die Welt bereisen. Natürlich kann die Y9 auch auf Regattakursen im Mittelmeer oder in der Karibik ihr Potenzial unter Beweis stellen und ganz vorne mitsegeln. Sie wird bei jeder Regatta ein ernstzunehmender Gegner sein.

Wie alle YYachten folgt auch die Y9 einer klaren Design-Philosophie – die Reduktion aller unnötigen Aufbauten und Komponenten, um ein klares und minimalistisches Deck zu schaffen: „Keep it simple. Look good and sail nicely.“

Die Geräumigkeit einer 100-Fuß-Yacht konnte bei der Y9 auf 90 Fuß Länge erreicht werden, Grundlage dafür war das jahrelange Know-how in puncto Design und Konstruktion bei YYachts. Dem Eigner wird mit seinem eigenen Appartement ein Höchstmaß an Privatsphäre geboten; je nach Konfiguration stehen bis zu drei weitere Suiten für Gäste zur Verfügung. Besonderer Wert wurde auf die Gestaltung des Crewbereichs gelegt, denn eine ungeschriebene Regel im Yachting lautet "happ Crew, happy Eigner". 

Für die Y9 stehen verschiedene Grundrisse zur Verfügung, außerdem gibt es zahlreiche Optionen für die Inneneinrichtung. Das Team von YYachts wird mit jedem Eigner eng zusammenarbeiten, um die Innenausstattung zu personalisieren. Sie können selbstverständlich auch Ihren eigenen Innenarchitekten für das Projekt auswählen.

Das Y9 Pilot House ist die zweite Version der Y9-Baureihe und verfügt über ein markantes Deckshaus, das einen sehr hellen Salon und einen phänomenalen Blick auf das Meer bietet. Das Layout der Y9 Pilot House ist für Familien und Freunde optimiert, um ausgedehnte Reisen zu unternehmen. Andrew Winch und sein erfahrenes Design-Team haben eine anspruchsvolle Atmosphäre unter Deck geschaffen.

Die Y9 ist perfekt auf das Bordleben und seine Aktivitäten abgestimmt, indem übertriebene Proportionen sowie uneffektive Details, die schwer zu pflegen sind, vermieden wurden. Für das Y9 Pilot House sind mehrere Optionen für Gäste- und Crewkabinen erhältlich. Das markante Pilot House und seine Gläser durchfluten den Salon mit reichlich Tageslicht und bietet zudem einen 360°-Blick auf das Meer. Das genau durchdachte Pilot House ist übrigens nicht nur ein ästhetisches Element, sondern trägt auch dazu bei, die Überhitzung unter Deck zu reduzieren, indem es die Sonnenstrahlen ablenkt und den Energiebedarf für die Kühlung des Innenraums in heißen Klimazonen minimiert. Dies ist nur einer der Aspekte, die die Y9 zu einer nachhaltigen Yacht machen.

Wir können eine 90-Fuß-Yacht auch auf einem weißen Blatt Papier beginnen und ein Design umsetzen, das es noch nie zuvor gegeben hat - Sie erhalten dann eine Yacht, die in jedem Detail nach Ihren Wünschen entstanden ist. 

Das jüngste Beispiel für die Fähigkeiten unserer Custom Division ist die YC Tripp 90 – eine 30-Meter-Slup aus Karbon mit einem von Bill Tripp entworfenen Exterieur und einem Interieur von Winch Design, einem renommierten führenden Superyacht-Designer aus London.  Der Eigner ist ein erfahrener Segler, der sowohl komfortabel cruisen als auch erfolgsorientiert Regatten segeln möchte.

The all-new Sunseeker 100 Yacht is the epitome of a luxury yacht. Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines as an option, the 100 Yacht accommodates up to twelve guests and five crew in complete luxury, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

A striking Owner Stateroom forward with a private bow terrace, sunbathing hideaways, a breathtaking single-level exterior deck from flybridge to foredeck, a beautifully proportioned open-plan interior and generous ‘Beach Club’, just a few of her magnificent features. 

The revolutionary Sunseeker ‘Beach Club’ provides an exceptional area to relax at water level. The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet ski, with plentiful stowage for SeaBobs, diving equipment and paddleboards. The innovative X-TEND™ system offers several seating arrangements, facing aft in its lowered position or, at the flick of a switch, forward at cockpit level.

The vast flybridge on board the 100 Yacht flows seamlessly into the foredeck with uninterrupted walk-around access on both sides. The foredeck provides a social space with two separate seating arrangements plus an oversized sunpad. The essential raised pilot house, central to this yacht’s innovative design, incorporates a glazed sliding door aft, allowing uninterrupted views forward from the flybridge.  

Its unique main deck, penthouse-style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new-found design direction and material selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner. The layering of textural elements and the mix of furnishings and fabrics feels timeless with a modern twist that exudes simplicity and sophistication. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the generous saloon with natural daylight, complemented by sliding doors to starboard, helping to bring the outdoors in. A stunning feature wall forward of the dining room showcases exposed and seemingly floating stair treads leading to the wheelhouse above on the port side and lower deck access to starboard. The large, fully equipped galley forward is concealed behind a feature bulkhead, and offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.

The unique main deck layout includes the Owner's Stateroom forward for even greater flexibility and freedom on board. This full-beam stateroom offers a large lobby entrance, walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and generous en suite. Bathed in natural light courtesy of expansive panoramic glazing, owners can access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward.

The yacht can be specified as a four or five cabin boat, ideal for the charter market. In either case, the twin amidship cabins can be fitted with Pullman berths for added flexibility. The crew cabin is also worthy of mention, featuring a Captain’s cabin with en suite, two twins each with en suite, a highly specified crew mess.

Premieren 2023: Segelyachten bis 40 Fuß

Was bei Autos der Kombi, ist bei Segelschiffen die 10-Meter-Yacht. Hier sind die 8 spannendsten Neuheiten der boot Düsseldorf.

Die Segelbootklasse von 30 bis 40 Fuß ist für alle Pläne offen. Sie hat sich als Inbegriff der Fahrtenyacht etabliert. Segeln und Reisen ergänzen sich auf dieser Länge am harmonischsten. Und es wird immer harmonischer, wie unser Blick auf die Neuheiten 2023 bei den Segelyachten bis 40 Fuß zeigt.

Bavaria C38

Mit den C-Modellen will Bavaria Yachts Segler begeistern, die sowohl sportlich segeln als auch Wert auf Komfort unter Deck legen. Die kleinste in dieser neuen Vielseitigkeits-Klasse ist die Bavaria C38. Eng verwandt mit der Bavaria C42, ist die C38 die zweite Segelyacht der neu konzipierten Modellreihe.

Sowohl in der Gestaltung des 11,38 Meter langen Rumpfs als auch beim Segelplan gibt es Ähnlichkeiten. Damit verfolgt Bavaria eine konsequente Design- und Plattform-Strategie. Äußerlich ähneln sich die Modelle durch den breiten V-Bug und das 3,98 Meter breite Heck mit markanten Chines. Beides trägt zu besseren Segeleigenschaften und höherer Seegängigkeit bei.

Zugleich entsteht so mehr Raum unter Deck. Im Bug gibt es ein 2,00 x 1,73 Meter großes Doppelbett, im Heck zwei Kabinen mit 2,00 x 1,50 Meter großen Kojen. Der Salon bietet Sitzplätze für bis zu sieben Personen.

Für den optimalen Vortrieb am Wind sorgen im Standard gut 75 Quadratmeter Segelfläche. Bis zu 14 Personen dürfen an Bord der hochseetauglichen Yacht mitsegeln. Einen leichten Zugang zum Wasser ermöglicht am Heck eine ausreichend große Badeplattform.

Die Ausstattungsliste erlaubt eine starke Individualisierung. Zwei Kiele stehen zur Auswahl, wobei sich mit dem lediglich 1,65 Meter tiefen Flachkiel auch Reviere wie die dänische Südsee sehr gut erkunden lassen, wo die Häfen kleiner und die Buchten oft flacher sind.

Beneteau First 36

Beneteau hat die sportliche Marke First neu positioniert. Der in Zusammenarbeit mit Seascape entstandene Performance-Cruiser Beneteau First 36 kommt jetzt erstmals an den Rhein. Mit der First 36 schlägt die Werft eine Brücke zwischen den sportlichen Performance-Yachten und den auf Komfort ausgerichteten Cruiser-Yachten.

Sie wird von der slowenischen Seascape-Werft gebaut und hat mit 75 Quadratmeter Segelfläche ein großes Potenzial zum schnellen Segeln. Vor dem Wind sollen sind bis zu 180 Quadratmeter – mit Gennaker oder Code Zero – möglich.

Beim float -Segeltest überzeugte das Schiff: Trotz der für diese Bedingungen recht hohen Geschwindigkeit bleibt das Ruder neutral, es ist perfekt ausbalanciert und vor allem reaktionsschnell. Wirklich beeindruckt sind wir von der Leichtigkeit der Handhabung .

Serienmäßig ist das 11 Meter lange und bis zu 3,80 Meter breite Boot mit Doppelsteuerstand ausgestattet, auch das ein Fingerzeig für seine Performance-Optimierung. Das Gewicht beträgt 4,8 Tonnen, der Tiefgang maximal 2,25 Meter. Die Werft empfiehlt als Motorisierung einen 29 PS starken Yanmar-Diesel.

Das Rumpfdesign stammt von Pure Design & Engineering, das mit der Imoca 60 und anderen im seglerischen Extremsport bereits Akzente gesetzt hat. Die Innenarchitektur beschränkt sich auf eine Version mit drei Doppelkabinen und einem einzigen Bad im Vorschiff. Im Salon wird insbesondere für den Navigator-Sitz samt Pult viel Platz eingeräumt.

Beneteau Oceanis 30.1

Die bewährte Beneteau Oceanis 30.1 kommt erstmals standardmäßig mit einer elektrischen Motorisierung von Torqeedo an den Rhein. Die kleinste Segelyacht der Cruising-Range wurde vor einiger Zeit „Revolution auf 30 Fuß“ genannt, nicht nur der Kimmkanten, Doppelruderanlage und der fest angebauten Bugnase aus GFK wegen. Der Benjamin der Oceanis-Baureihe segelt sich auch klasse.

Mit einer Leistung von umgerechnet 14 PS ermöglicht der unsichtbar unterm Boot platzierte Pod-Motor von Torqeedo bis zu sechs Stunden Fahrt bei einer Geschwindigkeit von vier Knoten. So bleibt das Segelerlebnis auch beim Einlaufen in die Marina mit ozeanischer Ruhe erhalten.

Der Kleinkreuzer Bente 28 segelt sich exzeptionell, sagt man – das sieht man ihm auch an. Das markante Design von Judel/Vrolijk setzt selbstbewusste Akzente um den negativen Steven und den orangefarbenen Dodger-Bügel.

Mit vielen durchdachten Detaillösungen auf und unter Deck will das dritte Modell der Bente-Baureihe sich klar von jedem anderen Schiff dieser Klasse absetzen.

Unsere Segelyacht Sauvignon Blanc ⛵ ist 2015 vom Stapel gelaufen und wurde 2020 in der Werft komplett auf das neue Layout überarbeitet. Seitdem gleitet unsere Sauvignon Blanc majestätisch 👑 durch die Meere. Wenn wir die Segel setzen, wirst du staunen, mit welcher Leichtigkeit sich dieses Schiff durch das Wasser steuern lässt. 🤩  

17 Meter lang, 5 Meter breit und 30 Tonnen schwer.

Auf dem riesigen Oberdeck findest du echtes Teak-Holz 🪵, gemütliche Liegeflächen und eine Minibar für kühle Drinks. Die absenkbare Badeplattform ist perfekt um die Füße im Wasser baumeln zu lassen. Hier ist auch eine temperierte Außendusche vorhanden. Ein klangvolles Soundsystem 🎶 und schicke Beleuchtung garantiert beste Atmosphäre unter den Sternen. ✨

Der große Salon ist mit einer großzügigen Küche, Kühlschrank, Weinkühler, Mikrowelle und Gasherd ausgestattet. Dabei sind 600 Liter Frischwasser an Bord.

BAVARIA C50 - Exterieur

Das neue wow in dieser klasse..

Unser Ziel war es, mit der BAVARIA C50 nichts anderes als einen neuen Standard in der Klasse der 50‐Fuß‐Yachten zu setzen. Wir sind sicher, es ist uns gelungen – mit einer eleganten, flachen Linie des Rumpfes und einer extrem dynamisch wirkenden Silhouette. Das Laufdeck ist frei von Kanten und Stufen.

Für optimales Licht und beste Belüftung sorgen die ins Deck eingelassenen Luken. Alles ist sehr klar, sehr reduziert. Und entspricht unserem Verständnis von gutem, modernem Yachtdesign.

Die Rumpffenster: Eingebettet in die eleganten, flachen Linien des Rumpfes, befinden sich herrlich große Fenster, die für ein Mehr an Licht unter Deck sorgen.

Die XXL‐Badeplattform: 2,68 Meter Breite für alles, was direkt am Wasser Spaß macht: gemeinsam sonnen, baden oder einen Tauchgang starten. Platz ist genug da.

Die Extra‐Liegefläche: Wer sich mal nicht im Cockpitbereich zum Entspannen zurückziehen möchte, für den gibt es am Bug bzw. unterm Großbaum ebenfalls Platz.

Mit einer Rumpflänge von annähernd 18 Metern besticht die Oceanis Yacht 60 durch eine raffinierte, moderne und doch elegante Silhouette und zeichnet sich gleichzeitig durch ihre ausgezeichneten Fahreigenschaften aus.

AUSSENDESIGN

Die neue Anordnung des Cockpits vermittelt ein Gefühl von Wohlbefinden und Sicherheit: Der Zugang zum Vorschiff erfolgt über tiefe, ebene Laufstege.

Die beiden Steuerstände wurden so optimiert, dass alle Manöver durchgeführt werden können, ohne den Steuerposten zu verlassen: Kurskontrolle, Segeltrimm und Zugang zur elektrischen Winsch. Bordsysteme wie „ Ship Control “ und „ Seanapps “ ermöglichen die Steuerung sämtlicher Bordanlagen und die einfache Verwaltung von Wartungsmaßnahmen.

Das Bimini ist in 2 Ausführungen erhältlich. Die starre Version, die mit dem Strukturbügel verbunden ist, bietet der Besatzung einen optimalen Kompromiss zwischen Schutz und Belüftung. 

Die große Längsgarage bietet Platz für ein 2,80 m langes Beiboot mit Strahlantrieb. Dieser echte Tender wird über eine elektrische Winde mit doppeltem Seilsystem und Führungsrollen bedient, die ein müheloses Zuwasserlassen und Einholen garantieren.

INNENDESIGN

Die Pantry in der Bootsmitte erstreckt sich über die gesamte Breite: Auf der Backbord-Seite befinden sich Staufächer und Kühleinrichtungen, auf der Steuerbord-Seite die Spüle, der Herd und die Geschirrspülmaschine. Stauraum gibt es in Hülle und Fülle, und die lineare Arbeitsfläche überrascht durch ihren neuartigen Charakter.

Zum großzügigen Salon, in dem sechs Personen bequem am Tisch Platz finden, gehört ein weiches Sofa, das zum Entspannen auf hoher See oder am Ankerplatz einlädt. Der bogenförmige Kartentisch ermöglicht es dem Bootsführer, am Bordleben teilzuhaben. 

Die Oceanis Yacht 60 ist mit 3 Kabinen mit 3 Badezimmern in zwei Ausführungen erhältlich: Nussbaum (Standard) und helle Eiche (Option). Zahlreiche Formholzteile fügen sich harmonisch in die großen, weißen Lackflächen ein und werden durch hochwertige Polster ergänzt. Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

Spend some time in one of Moscow’s finest museums.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

A Brief Introduction

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

Buying Tickets

• Ticket machines have a button to switch to English.
• You can buy specific numbers of rides: 1, 2, 5, 11, 20, or 60. Hold up fingers to show how many rides you want to buy.
• There is also a 90-minute ticket , which gets you 1 trip on the metro plus an unlimited number of transfers on other transport (bus, tram, etc) within 90 minutes.
• Or, you can buy day tickets with unlimited rides: one day (218₽/ US$4), three days (415₽/US$7) or seven days (830₽/US$15). Check the rates here to stay up-to-date.
• If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
• You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
• You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Rules, spoken and unspoken

No smoking, no drinking, no filming, no littering. Photography is allowed, although it used to be banned.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.
