This New 262-Foot Superyacht Lets You Mix and Match 3 Interior and Exterior Designs

The Pearl 72 is the latest model from Pearl Yachts, a beautiful design with a seaworthy hull.

Our ride for the day was the sleek Pearl 72 from Britain’s boutique builder Pearl Yachts , a high-luxury, design-focused express yacht brimming with style and innovation.

Pearl has been around since 1998, and today builds a line of flybridge motoryachts that includes a 62, 80 and 95 from its yard in Xiamen, China. It pulled the wraps off this all-new 72-footer at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and a few weeks later, we had the chance to put it through its paces in the ocean swells.

Moored stern-to at the dock, the 72 exudes high style. Long-time Pearl naval architect Bill Nixon did the running surface and exterior design, filling the superstructure with huge swaths of dark-tinted glass.

From massive floor-to-ceiling salon windows, huge, twin panes of windshield glass, mile-long windows along the hull, to glass-filled cutouts in the bulwarks, the profile looks to have as much glass as fiberglass.

And the hull is full of cool innovations. Like the cavernous transom garage—extremely rare in a 72-footer—that’s big enough to swallow a Williams 345 jet tender plus a jet ski. That, and the hydraulic swim platform, plus powered, drop-down side terraces, for easy access to those water toys.

Best seat in the house? That would be the big comfy sofa on the oversized foredeck, with a sunpad in front that’s big enough for sun worshippers. Second best seat? Up on the flybridge behind the wheel.

With louvers like those of an oversized Venetian blind, it can go from fully closed to fully open at the press of a button. But the party trick is the angle of the blinds can be adjusted to let in the desired amount of sunlight.

It’s inside, however, where the style really shines. The whole interior is the creation of British interior designer-to-the-stars Kelly Hoppen, who has given the yacht the vibe of some hip, urban Manhattan loft.

The Pearl 72 is the latest model from Pearl Yachts, a beautiful design with a seaworthy hull.

In the salon, that means a central, full-beam open galley with the dining area forward under that huge glass windshield, which has a slide-back section for al fresco dining. To enhance the indoors/outdoors feel, there’s an oversize sofa and chairs close to the aft deck, accessed through big sliding doors.

Take the stairs down to the staterooms and here’s another surprise: twin master cabins. Perfect for when two couples are cruising together and neither wants the smaller cabin. Add two more en-suite double cabins, plus crew quarters, and the 72 squeezes a lot into its dimensions.

Away from the docks is where this boat really distinguishes itself. Throw off the lines, ease into the narrow canal leading out into the Intracoastal Waterway—made easy thanks to standard bow and stern thrusters—and we’re gliding under Fort Lauderdale’s 17th Street Bridge for the ocean.

Standard power for the 72 is a pair of 1,400 hp MAN V12s, though most buyers will likely opt for the twin MTU V10s packing 1,600-hp apiece. Their desirability is shown when you pour on the power and feel the surge of acceleration.

Flat out, they’ll punch the Pearl to that 37mph top speed, and cruise serenely, and near-silently at 28, giving a range of around 250 nautical miles from its 1,100-gallon tanks.

Pricing starts at $3.4 million with the 1,400 hp MANs. With the big MTUs and a few options, such as a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer and second generator, it will be closer to $4.6 million. The yacht comes with a five-year warranty.

After our Atlantic escapade, it’s clear that this is a fast cruiser, with great style, design, and lively performance. But our favorite feature is its impressive big-water handling.

Pearl 72 Review (2022 Edition)

Following the immense success of the Pearl 62, can the striking 72 follow suit? It's full of clever ideas, as we discovered during our exclusive sea trial

Pearl 72 Review (2022 Edition) image 1

The Bill Dixon/Kelly Hoppen partnership returns with Pearl's all-new 72. It's a four-stateroom design with what Pearl describes as two owner's suites - one right forward in the bow with private access and the other in its traditional amidships location.

The other part of this complex lower deck puzzle is the inclusion of a tender garage with space for a tender, jet-ski and Seabob and a two-person crew space. Engine options are from MAN and MTU, the 1,600hp MTUs good for 32 knots flat out and a 250nm cruising range at 25 knots. Tongues were wagging after the 72 was unveiled at the 2022 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show but does the 72 live up to expectations? Read on to find out.

Pearl 72 running

Around the Marina

Those meaty MTUs may provide awesome power out at sea but their low-speed grunt also makes negotiating marinas pretty straightforward. An Aventics joystick is an option that our test boat didn't have but the tactile ZF throttles snick in and out of gear with ease and the boat responds with a positive shove in either direction. Around the marina you can leave the wheel alone and just manoeuvre the boat on the throttles, such is the level of shove from the propellers.

Our test boat was fitted with the standard thrusters but it's well worth upgrading to the (£13,920) hydraulic bow and stern thrusters which provide proportional thrust, won't fade under heavy load and have a hold mode to pin the boat against the dock.

You can't see the bathing platform from either helm but a suite of cameras provide a view of all sides of the boat via the MFDs. If stern-to mooring is going to be the norm then shelling out £7,230 for the third docking station in the cockpit is well worth it. Here you get engine start/stop, another pair of throttles and bow and stern thruster controls so you can handle the boat from within the cockpit. It's not only in the Med where this position can be useful, but the berth we had on the test day also was tight and I felt most comfortable helming from the cockpit to give me the best sight lines aft and it worked brilliantly.

The joystick is a £23,870 option but, if you're used to handling a boat with throttles and thrusters, it's an outlay that can be avoided given how docile the 72 is at slow speed.

At 2,000rpm and around 80% engine load the 72 is in its stride. The big MTUs feel like they're hardly working but this 50-tonne flybridge is purring along at 25 knots for a range of 247nm (with 10% in reserve). The performance is effortless all the way up to a top speed of 33 knots, which is up there with the best-performing boats in this class. The MTUs are a £54,100 upgrade over the standard 1,400hp MAN V8s, which is no small change, but they suit the boat well and are proven to be reliable.

With a 4,340-litre fuel tank that is integrated into the hull, the 72's capacity is a little down on its rivals so its slow-speed range isn't quite as good as the Princess Y72 or Azimut 72. Still, at 10 knots you'll get around 600nm out of it and even at top speed you're looking at well over 200nm with a 10% reserve.

This may have been a quirk of our test boat, which was hull number one and still had some small issues to be addressed, but the MTUs were quite noisy at idle. Up at speed, they melted away to a perfectly respectable level, even when driving from the lower helm, but they were notably throaty in and out of gear.

Conditions were kind during our test in the Solent so the only real challenge the hull faced was crossing our own wash, which the 72 did with consummate ease.  As the tide pushed around The Needles a bit of swell kicked up but there was nothing to wrong foot Bill Dixon's solid feeling hull.

Mounting the engines further back in the boat on V-drives is what allows the extraordinary use of space on board but even with the 4.5-tonne engine weight distributed further back in the boat the 72's running attitude stays level at speed. No doubt the Humphree active interceptors, which work constantly to adjust the boat's trim according to speed and conditions, have a hand in this but the boat's natural balance feels on the money.

The steering isn't quite as engaging as the Princess Y72's, which is the best handling boat in the class, but it's very good for such a big, heavy craft. The 72 tracks neatly on passage but if you do need to hand steer it's quick to respond to the helm and has a healthy amount of heel. The turning circle is pretty neat, too. It's a very enjoyable boat to drive at speed and has greater agility and more poise than you might expect of a boat of this type.

Design & Build

Pearl 72 platforms

Pearl's partnership with British designer Bill Dixon continues with the 72 and the shipyard ensured he had his work cut out with this brief. The desire to incorporate two master cabins (as Pearl describes them) and a garage large enough to carry a jet-ski, tender and Seabob side-by-side was made clear from the off so the packaging of this 21.99m (72ft 2in) yacht had to be as tight as a drum.

Dixon has risen to the challenge and managed to include two double staterooms with a further double and a twin plus the requisite tender space without any of these areas feeling compromised. The crew accommodation suffers slightly compared to some rivals but given many of these yachts will be owner-run that is a trade-off that most will accept.

To include all of this and still keep the proportions in check is an absolute triumph. The latest generation of Pearls are really good-looking boats, characterised by the slashes of glazing that tear through the topsides and superstructure. The 72 is modern yet elegant and retains the typical Pearl styling cues such as the slender elliptical windows in the saloon and the extended windscreen which draws a huge amount of light into the boat's interior.

Inside Line

Interior designer Kelly Hoppen has been working with Pearl for years and her style lends the Pearl range a unique look and feel. For the 72 she developed a new theme dubbed 'Indulgence', which has a darker more masculine palette and offers a refreshing contrast to the walnuts and oaks that we see elsewhere in the market. It won't be for everyone and it's a £30,000 option, so it was a good call to have the 'Modern' and 'Luxury' themes on the options list for those who want something more traditional.

The 72 uses a hand-laid hull construction and isn't built using vacuum infusion like the majority of its rivals. It's a sold-feeling boat out on the water and the quality of the engineering appears to be very good indeed. The engine room is slightly compromised by the presence of the tender garage moulding but it's still a very easy space to work in, even with the massive MTU 10Vs gobbling up so much room.

Access for day-to-day checks is perfectly good and important components like the generators on either side of the space and the optional Seakeeper 18 gyro, which is mounted aft between the engines, are easy to inspect.

Interior Accommodation

Pearl 72 salon

If the usual offerings of walnut or oak in various states of gloss don't float your boat then the Pearl 72's 'Indulgence' interior will be a welcome tonic. It feels completely different to pretty much anything else this boat's rivals can muster and is one of the few interiors that offers up the New York loft apartment cliché (sorry Kelly) and actually delivers on it. It doesn't feel like a boat interior, but whether that's a good or bad thing will depend on individual taste.

In terms of layout, it shuns the ubiquitous galley-aft arrangement for an amidships location, leaving a stylish lounge area aft that has a fantastic view out of deck-level windows that sit inboard of glass gunwales. There isn't a pop-up television but a fixed one inside an elegant wooden frame that also disguises useful eye-level cupboards and the boat's switch panel.

In fact, most of the practical stuff is neatly disguised, especially in the galley where the dishwasher, cupboards and fridge/freezer are hidden behind fascias. If you like the modern, clean look then this is the boat for you. The only downside is that the fridge/freezer unit is on the opposite side of the salon to the galley. There are too many sharp corners about the place for my liking, too.

The dinette is forward, opposite, and sits beneath the extended windscreen, a Pearl trademark that deluges the space in natural light. With an interior this dark it makes a huge difference.

On the lower deck, things get really clever. The guest accommodation is accessed via a dedicated staircase amidships in the salon and it leads to a pair of double cabins and a twin, all of which are ensuite. Amidships is the VIP stateroom (or 'second master' if you're Pearl), a full-beam cabin that stretches across the 72's 5.75m (18ft 10in) beam and gets a generous ensuite to port and a handsome bureau to starboard. It is a lovely space and is separated from the engine room by the crew quarters it should be well insulated from any engine room din, too.

Across the lobby are two further cabins, a decent double with an athwartships bed, ensuite and bureau and a twin whose ensuite is also the day head. The lobby area is quite tight but considering the quality of the accommodation here there are very few compromises.

What about the owner? Their cabin has its own access adjacent to the lower helm and it's quite something. The bed is against the aft bulkhead with a breakfast dinette tucked in the point of the bow, flanked by handy cupboard storage. On this boat's rivals, such as the Princess Y72, the owner's cabin is amidships so the ensuite can run behind it making the most of the boat's beam. That's not the case on the Pearl, but even though the ensuite is in the corner of the cabin it's still a good size and, like the rest of this space, dripping with style. The addition of some eye-level windows is a nice touch as well, they bring more light in and provide a view out as you move around the cabin.

The other clever aspect of the configuration of the accommodation is the flexibility of the spaces. For example, if the owner and their family are on board with guests then they can take over the accommodation in the middle of the boat leaving guests to enjoy the privacy of the owner's suite. Alternatively, the owner has a private space forward if they have guests on board with their kids.

Helm Station

Pearl 72 lower helm

The lower helm seats have been raised since I first saw the boat at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show and they're all the better for it. The seated view for someone of 6ft is good and with the sliding adjustment on the seats and bolster sections it's easy to get comfortable whether you want to sit or stand. The wheel is sited centrally, which means the navigator is trapped in by the skipper, but it also reduces the blind spot created by the starboard windscreen mullion.

It's a well-organised and stylish dashboard with the bulk of information displayed through a pair of flush-mounted Garmin MFDs. There's no criticising MTU's engines but its info screens with their thick plastic surround and chunky buttons look like relics of the 1980s compared to the hardware that other manufacturers are producing these days. It's a brilliantly light area though, thanks to both the extended windscreen and the side door, which is also helpful when it comes to communication and help with crewing.

The layout of the dash upstairs is slightly better than below because everything is angled more towards the helm seats and is easier to read. As with the lower helm, there are two MFDs at the top of the dash and a pair of stylish seats that allow the occupants to adjust their position individually. It's good to see the ZF throttles mounted on a plinth so they fall more easily to hand. Both helms lack device charging; neither has an induction charger or even some USB sockets to charge smartphones or tablets, which is an odd omission these days.

The flybridge helm is on the opposite side of the deck to the companionway hatch so it's hard to see the aft end of the boat from behind the wheel. Thankfully, as well as a suite of cameras that show all sides of the boat, there is a third control station in the cockpit, where it couldn't easier to keep a close eye on the boat's proximity to the quayside when stern-to berthing. A joystick that combines the shafts and thrusters is a £22,000 option but for most, the bow and stern thrusters and throttles will offer good enough control at slow speeds, though it's definitely worth upgrading to the proportional thrusters fore and aft.

Deck lifestyle

Pearl 72 aft platform

It's not just inside the boat where the use of space is impressive. The platforms that fold down to water level on either side of the bathing platform are a great example of manufacturing usable space where there wouldn't ordinarily be any. The only thing they're missing is some pop-up cleats so they can be used to tie off water toys and keep them clear of the main platform.

They connect with the main platform, which will always be clear of obstructions because the water toys stow inside the tender garage. Drop the platform, flip down the bench built into the garage hatch and, even though it can't reasonably be termed a beach club, you have a great place to relax if people are enjoying the water.

The cockpit features a wrap of seating and a split table system. The two tables remain separate so it's easy to move in and out if guests are lounging or having a drink but, if you want to dine in this area, the tables open up to meet in the middle and create a full-width dining table. There is a bar tucked up against the cockpit doors, too, which is handy given the galley isn't immediately inside the salon.

The side decks are deep and safe and have built-in side gates on both sides so it's easy to hop on and off at a fuel dock, for example. Instead of LED lights dotted along at deck level, the 72 has an unbroken strip light that runs down both side decks and meets at the bow. It's not something I've seen before but it's a really smart solution and will look fantastic in the dark, no doubt.

The foredeck is well-designed, too. It has the familiar sofa and sun pads setup with a passageway that links the side decks but it has a much larger table than you would normally find and it drops down on telescopic legs to either adjust the height or drop right down to create extra sunbathing space. Elsewhere there are pop-up lights, cup holders and a pair of really useful lockers on either side of the sofa that are the perfect size to swallow lines and covers.

Flying High

The flybridge feels big for a boat this large. It extends a long way back over the cockpit and the neatly integrated hard top adds a sense of security as well as the obvious protection benefits. There is the option to have a fixed hard top, one with a canvas sunroof or the vane and tilt roof that the test boat had. I don't usually like these slatted roofs but this is the first one I've seen that opens fully as well as tilts and leaves a wind deflector at the forward end. It's a best-of-both-worlds solution but, as a £93,000 option, you certainly pay for the privilege.

Aft there is clear space which can be filled with sleek free-standing furniture to create an appealing sundowner spot, the see-through coaming ensuring there's still a clear view out of the water. The double sun pad butts up to the starboard side of the deck and it can be shaded by a pop-out canopy that comes out from the hard top moulding. The sun pad lifts to reveal a really useful storage bin large enough to swallow all of the covers for the flybridge furniture.

Amidships, beneath the cover of the hard top, a large dinette sits opposite an L-shaped wet bar with the usual suite of appliances for cooking, cleaning and cooling. Small details stand out like having both an under counter and top-loading fridge and the way the BBQ links to the sink so all the grime can easily be swept away when cleaning.

Opposite the helm, there is a versatile little seating area with a small table that can be used either as a spot to enjoy the ride when the boat is on passage, a drinks area or, with the help of the hi-lo table and some in-fill cushions another sun pad. The clever design just keeps on coming.

Value For Money

The base price for the 72 (at the time of publishing) with twin MAN 1,400hp engines is £2.43 million ex VAT. Pearl generally aims to undercut its European rivals by 20-25%, something it can do by designing the boats in the UK with parts sourced across the UK, EU and USA and assembling them in China.

As a general rule, Pearl's tend to be good value for money compared to their closest rivals with no apparent compromises regarding engineering or quality. The boats use the same engines, machinery, electronics and other components as their competitors and Pearl has built enough boats to know how to put them together properly. And in terms of design, will Bill Dixon on board, Pearl is right up there with the very best.

Our Options & Pick

Our heavily optioned test boat came in at £3.73 million ex VAT (at the time of publishing). What options you choose will depend on budget and how the boat is going to be used but there are a few that I think are with particular consideration. The MTU 1,600hp engines are £55,000 upgrade but their easy power and flexible cruising band make a big difference, especially on a boat loaded with toys and cruising gear. I wouldn't usually plump for the tilt/vane hard top but, even though it's nearly £100k, the fact that it opens fully really adds to its usefulness so it probably is the one to have.

The folding side platforms are £40,000 but they're a useful addition if you like your water toys and will spend a lot of time at the waterline. The Modern interior decor, which uses lighter woods, is a non-cost option and you'll pay £30,000 for either the darker wood Luxury interior or the signature Kelly Hoppen that you see in these photos. It won't be to all taste but for its individuality alone it's a tempting prospect and some will just fall for its anti-boat style.

Items like the passerelle (£28,000) and air-con (£42,000 for Med spec, £50,000 for tropical) may come into the equation depending on where the boat will be berthed but if you plan to spend any real time on anchor the £130,000 Seakeeper SK18 could be a game changer and it will have some effect during slow speed cruising, too.

Pearl 72 flybridge

Pearl is well aware that it has to do things differently to tempt buyers away from the more mainstream brands and it embraces this challenge. The 72 is a clear product of this mentality and there is ambition all over this boat, from the tender garage to the thought that's gone into the deck spaces and, of course, the layout and decor of the interior. It never feels like things are being done for the sake of it, however, and the design decisions add so much to the way this boat comes together as a whole and, most importantly, improves life on board for those who own and live on board it. There are compromises here and there but considering what good value the 72 represents, these are easier to accept. This is all well and good but it's worthless if the boat doesn't perform on the water but that is not an issue that haunts the 72. It's a delight to drive at low and high speeds and a level performance that suits whatever speed you want to cruise at. Is this the best boat Pearl has ever made? It might well be.

Reasons to Buy

  • Brilliant packaging
  • Big tender garage
  • Characterful interior
  • Value for money
  • Handling & performance

Things to Consider

  • Engine room and crew space are a little cramped
  • Subjective 'Indulgence' interior decor
  • Sharp edges in the interior

This is one of the most competitive sectors so there is no shortage of talent for the Pearl 72 to come up against. Here is a selection of its closest rivals.

The Princess Y72 is one of the best boats the Plymouth-based shipyard builds. It looks great, has a brilliant balance of deck space and interior volume, is beautifully put together and nearly cracks 35 knots flat out. The Princess and Pearl share similar engine options and tank capacity so their performance is likely to be pretty similar. On board, there isn't a tender garage but it does have larger and more comfortable crew accommodation than the Pearl. The Y72's guest accommodation comprises two doubles and two twins, but the twin beds do have the option to slide together to create double beds when required. The design is safer than the Pearl's and it costs a bit more money but in this sector, it is the one to beat.

Rounding off the British rivals are the Sunseeker Manhattan 68 and Fairline Squadron 68 , both of which are slightly smaller than the Pearl but would no doubt be in the conversation for anyone looking to buy a flybridge of this size. Neither boasts the space on the lower deck of the Pearl and they don't have tender garage options but the Fairline has a very flexible layout with the choice of three cabins and a day head, the same arrangement with a utility room or a four-cabin option. Interestingly, the Sunseeker, which runs on Volvo Penta IPS1350, has a lower deck galley option as well as the standard galley-up arrangement.

One boat that can certainly keep up with the Pearl in the style stakes is the Azimut 72 . It isn't the latest generation of Azimut flybridge so it doesn't have the Alberto Mancini/Achille Salvagni design combination. It is a great-looking boat with a similar penchant to the Pearl for mirrored glass, though its deck spaces - especially the flybridge - aren't as expansive. It does, however, have both the amidships galley arrangement and three doubles and a twin on the lower deck like the Pearl. The cabin spaces aren't quite as roomy but then because there is no tender garage it does have a more spacious crew area. It shares the MAN V12 1,400hp engine option with the Pearl and will perform almost identically, though with a 1,000-litre greater fuel capacity its slow speed range will be superior.

The new Pearl 72 provides a unique offer: two master cabins in a four ensuite stateroom layout. The main one is forward with a private entrance, typically seen on much larger yachts, and the second one full beam amidships. Every element of the 72’s design follows from the core identity that she is a Pearl that’s evolved to a higher level.

The lines are as elegant as ever, now a bit sleeker and more streamlined, and the use of spheric glass gives her curves in all the right places. The flybridge is full length to accommodate unexpected amenities and leave plenty of space for the owner’s choice of layout. The main deck includes a thoughtful cockpit area, fully functioning galley, large dinette, and spacious lounge, comfortably appointed aft and forward lounge areas, and large swim platform. And that’s in addition to an exceptional garage with space for a William 345 tender and jet ski. The design concept for the Pearl 72 was to create a sleek modern interior with smooth lines and overlapping textures which embodies Kelly Hoppen’s signature style, including the new theme, Indulgence .  The design intent of the 72 was to capture New York City urban living on water while enhancing and working with the incredible mechanical features that have been achieved. Power options include twin MAN V12 1400HP or MTU 10V2000 M96L 1600HP engines. With a fuel capacity of 250 gallons, you can enjoy an estimated range at cruising speed of up 250NM.

Pearl raises the bar again with 72

  • October 6, 2023

Featuring four double en-suite guest cabins, a two-berth crew cabin plus a large garage for a tender and jet-ski, the Pearl 72 by Bill Dixon and Kelly Hoppen offers more than most in the 70ft sector, along with a five-year warranty. Words: Lucie Gardiner; Photos: Pearl Yachts

The Pearl 72 can reach 32 knots with 1,600hp MTU engines

Following on from the hugely popular Pearl 62 (over 20 hulls and counting), the Pearl 72 that debuted late last year fleshes out the British brand’s new generation of models and stands out as a true embodiment of the sophistication, craftsmanship and ‘more for your money’ layouts that the boutique builder has become known for.

On display this year at the likes of Boot Dusseldorf and the Cannes Yachting Festival, the 72 packs in a huge number of features, many of which you’d expect to see on a much larger vessel.

The clever use of space on the lower deck has created space for four two-berth guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms, including the equivalent of two full-beam master staterooms, making the model almost unrivalled in her class.

Once again, Bill Dixon of UK-based Dixon Yacht Design, who has worked with Pearl for two decades, is responsible for the sleek, sporty exterior lines, while fellow Brit Kelly Hoppen CBE handles the exceptionally rich and detailed interiors as she has done for the builder over the past decade or so.

The beach club has a fold-down sofa, drop-down wings and hydraulic swim platform

From its sleek profile to the smooth curves, every detail has been meticulously crafted to create a harmonious, visually striking exterior. The generous windows not only provide abundant natural light but also offer breathtaking views of the surrounding waters. The use of high-quality materials, such as teak and stainless steel, further enhances its luxurious appeal.

OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT

From the minute you step aboard and see the aft garage that houses a tender up to a Williams SportJet 345, a jet-ski and a Seabob to the hydraulic swim platform with the side wings that give a definite beach club vibe, you get the feeling the Pearl 72 has features you typically see on a superyacht.

The garage can fit a tender and a jet-ski

That feeling is further underlined when the garage door is closed and you see the clever fold-down transom seating.

It’s just four steps up either of two symmetrical staircases to reach the cockpit, which has a long aft sofa and two foldable tables that can be connected to make a long table for alfresco dining when combined with loose chairs.

The cockpit has two folding tables

Port stairs lead up to the spacious flybridge, which feels large for this size of vessel and houses the upper helm station as well as plenty of entertaining, dining and lounging areas.

Aft is a clear area for loose furniture or an optional hot tub, while to starboard is a fixed double sunpad aft of a C-shaped sofa and a table for eight, conveniently situated opposite the L-shaped wet bar.

Forward is a twin-seat helm station to starboard, while to port is an L-shaped sofa adjoining a forward bench-seat-cum-sunpad by the low windscreen.

The variable hard top provides a range of cover and can be completely closed for full shade, offer partial sunlight and breeze by adjusting the louvres, or completely open for full sunlight when fully retracted.

The foredeck has a wide sofa and a sunpad that wraps around a folding table

The foredeck, accessed by symmetrical side decks, is another great outdoor zone, with a wide sofa facing a large sunpad area that wraps around a folding table. The whole area can be covered by a bimini supported by four carbon poles.

INDULGENCE BY HOPPEN

Guests enter the saloon via an electrically operated sliding door. The Pearl 72 is the brand’s first model to feature Hoppen’s new ‘Indulgence’ theme and she has once again worked her magic, elevating the 72 to new heights of luxury. The polished and modern interiors are characterised by clean lines, overlapping textures and a harmonious blend of materials.

Timber veneers, onyx marbles, milky-white tactile soft furnishings and contrasting metal detailing make the interiors a definite talking point. There’s a touch of a luxury New York loft about it, masculine and urban; it makes a real departure from anything else we’ve seen in this sector.

The saloon is designed as a luxurious open-plan lounge. The port side is adorned with an L-shaped designer sofa, while the starboard side showcases eye-catching furniture, ample storage space and a wood-mounted fixed TV.

The saloon includes a galley and bar

Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the interior in natural light, and strategically placed cut-outs in the bulwarks create an observatory-like atmosphere, allowing guests to feel intimately connected with the surrounding environment.

Continuing the journey forward, a three-stool marble bar seamlessly integrates the open galley with the social area, ensuring a continual entertaining space. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby area further enhance the connection to the outdoors, offering panoramic views and a remarkable sense of spaciousness.

Forward is dining by the helm

Ascending one step brings you to the forward dining area and the internal helm station to starboard, both benefiting from the ‘double windscreen’, another Pearl signature, with the glass arcing up and back all the way to the forward end of the flybridge. There’s also a door to the side deck beside the helm.

CABIN WORLD

Hoppen’s meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout every space on board the Pearl 72, including the lower deck, which offers four full-height, full-size en-suite guest cabins, a remarkable feat for a vessel of this size. The three cabins for guests are accessible by the first of two staircases, situated opposite the bar.

The midships VIP would typically be considered a master suite

Located where the owner’s cabin typically lies, the midships cabin spans the yacht’s 5.75m beam and counts as one of what the builder calls two master suites, although on the Pearl 72, it’s likely to be designated as the VIP.

Forward of the transversal hallway is a double cabin to port that features an inward-facing bed, while to starboard is a twin guest cabin with aft-facing beds. All the cabins are comfortable and stylish with reflective surfaces, sophisticated tones, refined finishes and plentiful storage.

Pearl, Yachts, Pearl 72, Bill Dixon, Kelly Hoppen, motor yacht, flybridge, tender, jet-ski, VP Yachts

The master suite is located in the bow

However, the biggest surprise is the main master suite in the bow. Accessed by a private stairway beside the lower helm and past sleek, stylish shelving and storage, the breathtaking full-beam cabin features a large double bed that faces forward to a stylish two-seat dinette that’s the centrepiece of a stunning symmetrically designed bedroom.

As well as long hull windows, forward are eye-level windows that provide more natural light and offer a view of the forepeak, while the en-suite bathroom is aft and starboard of the bed.

RELIABLE PERFORMER

Beyond its remarkable aesthetics, the Pearl 72 delivers exceptional performance on the water. Twin 1,400hp MAN V12s are the standard engines, while owners can upgrade to 1,600hp MTUs. The advanced hull architecture ensures a smooth cruise, while the MTU engines on our show boat powered it to a top speed of 32 knots, with a comfortable cruising speed of 25 knots.

Pearl, Yachts, Pearl 72, Bill Dixon, Kelly Hoppen, motor yacht, flybridge, tender, jet-ski, VP Yachts

The owner’s bed faces a gorgeous dinette and display shelving

As a testament to its commitment to quality, Pearl – whose dealers include VP Yachts in Hong Kong – continues to provide a comprehensive five-year warranty, three years longer than most other new boat warranties. This speaks volumes for the confidence the British brand has in its craftsmanship and build standards.

In summary, the Pearl 72 yacht exemplifies the epitome of luxury and design innovation. With its thoughtfully crafted layout, modern exterior lines and stylish interiors, this exceptional vessel offers a truly unforgettable experience on the water and sets lofty standards in the 70ft category.

Pearl 72 to Debut This Fall

  • By Yachting Staff
  • October 10, 2022

Pearl Yachts in the United Kingdom has completed sea trials on Hull No. 1 of the Pearl 72, which is scheduled to make its public debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October.

Exterior design and naval architecture on the Pearl 72 are by Bill Dixon. Interiors are by Kelly Hoppen.

“The hull glass has been expanded for a more modern look, combined with the sporty stance, which she inherited from the recent Pearl 62,” Dixon stated in a press release. “The lines are as elegant as ever, now a bit sleeker and more streamlined, and the use of spheric glass gives her curves in all the right places.”

The Pearl 72 has what the builder describes as two master staterooms. One is forward with a private entrance, and the other is belowdecks, full-beam and amidships. Pearl Yachts calls this setup “an ideal solution for co-owners who enjoy the yacht together.”

Guests are accommodated in two additional en suite staterooms. There also are crew quarters and a garage that can hold a Williams Sportjet 345 tender and a personal watercraft.

Let’s talk about “indulgence”: That’s what Kelly Hoppen Interiors calls the theme of the Pearl 72s interior design, which aims to capture New York City urban living on the water.

The Precious Design of the Pearl 72

Smart design inside and out is the hallmark of this new release, written by kevin koenig, october 6, 2022.

Pearl Yachts  is known for its design. That’s largely due to the big names it has brought in to draw the lines and decorate the interiors of its models—which range from a 62-footer on the low end, up to a 95-foot mega yacht.

The new Pearl 72, which will make its first stateside appearance at this year’s  Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , benefits greatly from these deft personnel choices.  Bill Dixon  of England’s  Dixon Yacht Design  penned the profile for the 72, and managed to turn out something that is at once sleek and substantial, muscular and feminine. To my eye, Dixon achieved this through layering the angles. Steak-knife-like hullside windows lie below a broken shearline with slick glazing at amidships. Above that, a swooping flybridge line sweeps back from the bow deck to nearly shade the after section of the boat completely. A masculine-looking, reverse-raked hardtop (with a sunroof) sits atop that, and bolsters this yacht’s handsome appeal.

Pearl 72 - Imagery courtesy of Pearl Yachts

On the inside, Pearl once again turned to interior designer to the stars, Kelly Hoppen (that’s  Kelly Hoppen CBE , to you), to turn out an interior that is as lush as it is functional. Hoppen says she took inspiration for the 72’s interior from New York City apartment living, the characteristics of which are visible in the boat’s bespoke mix of timber veneers, onyx marbling, and stainless steel accents. Clean lines play off of neutral tones to make the salon and other major interior spaces elegant yet livable. If that all sounds sensually indulgent to you, that’s on purpose. Indulgence was one of Pearl’s goals in creating this model. The sense of abundance plays out elsewhere. In particular, the 72 is notable for having two separate master staterooms—one at amidships and one in the forepeak, both of which are en suite. Two further guest cabins with twin berths are also en suite, offering maximum privacy for all guests.

For more convivial times, the yacht’s flying bridge is the place to see and be seen. It has an al fresco dining settee, freestanding furniture, a sunpad, and an optional Jacuzzi. The exterior helm on this deck enjoys excellent lines of sight while allowing the captain of the borderline owner-operator-sized vessel to join in the fun.

Pearl 72 - Imagery courtesy of Pearl Yachts

The 72 comes standard with twin 1,400-hp  MAN  V12s. However, customers will have the option of juicing her up a bit with the twin 1,600-hp  MTU  option. With that propulsion package the Pearl 72 can run flat out at a respectable 32 knots, or cruise at 25 knots with a range of about 250 nautical miles.

What you get with the Pearl 72 is a motoryacht with outsized elegance, world-class aesthetics, and more-than-adequate performance to boot. There’s a lot to like with the final product, as is so often the case when yachts begin with crisp plans.

Pearl 72: The First Yacht to Offer Indulgence

pearl yachts 72

The British yacht builder has announced Pearl 72, a new 72’ flybridge yacht that features two master cabins, a total of four en-suite guest cabins, and a crew cabin – plus a garage for large tender and a jet ski

Pearl 72 features the latest edition of Bill Dixon’s coordinated exterior design and naval architecture, as well as the celebrated new interior design theme ‘Indulgence’ by Kelly Hoppen CBE. In terms of layout, the new model adds a unique introduction to the size-class: two Master Cabins. One is forward with a private entrance, as typically seen on much larger yachts, and the second is full beam amidships. There are two more en-suite double cabins plus accommodation for the crew, in addition to an exceptional garage, with space for a William 345 tender (or similar) and a jet ski.

Pearl 72 exterior

The flybridge is a clear example of the theme of flexibility, which defines the entire Pearl 72. Guests can enjoy the fresh air and flybridge experience under the variable hard top, which has 3 settings: Full shade, adjustable louvres, and full sun.

The helm and forward-facing seating set up a friendly area for owner operators to enjoy cruising in the company of guests; the full-sized dining table has a multi-functional wet bar opposite, and the aft area can be tailored to suit the owner’s needs with freestanding furniture, a sun pad or even a hot tub. Stairs lead down to the cockpit, which is centred around the table with a sofa and freestanding seating, sheltered by the flybridge but enjoying a wide-open view – this is one of the main entertaining areas onboard.

Pearl 72 stern

One more set of steps takes us down to the beach club, which features a fold-out seat and an extended bathing platform. It’s the perfect place to kick off an adventure, with full support for all the must-have water toys . The garage accommodates a large Tender and there’s still room for a jet ski.

Finally, we come to the bow lounge – a great place to end the day, watching the sunset, thanks to the wide sofa and sun pads. Below the Bedouin-style Bimini and the retracting table, you can do whatever you want with this space. A nice detail is that the anchor mechanisms are neatly tucked away, giving everyone a clear view off the bow for sunbathing at anchor or even while cruising at low speeds.

Pearl 72 bow lounge

The entrance to the salon is a via an impressive electrically operated sliding door. The main saloon is laid out as a lounge, with designer sofas along the port side and eye-catching furniture starboard, with an abundance of storage. Making our way forward, we pass the three-stool bar, which blends the open galley with the social area. This lobby is a pleasure to pass through, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Together with the cut-outs in the bulwarks, it creates an observatory in remarkable contact with the environment.

And finally, we arrive beneath the, now synonymous, ‘Pearl double windscreen’, which houses the internal helm station and a relaxed dinette area. An optional door beside the helm gives easy access to the exterior, bringing in the breeze and making for easier operation. There are two stairways leading to the lower deck; the forward master has a private stairway by the helm. Amidships, the main stairway takes you down to the main accommodations area with 4 en-suite guest cabins, a feat impossible to find on yachts of this size.

Pearl 72 interior

Kelly Hoppen Interiors has continued to refine the design of Pearl Yachts, taking the world-famous look one step further and introducing a new interior theme – ‘Indulgence’. The design intent of this yacht was to capture New York City urban living on water while enhancing and working with the incredible mechanical features that have been achieved.

Whether the owner chooses the standard 1400HP MAN V12s or the optional MTUs with 1600HP, the Pearl 72’s advanced hull architecture ensures a smooth, efficient cruise and easy handling. The latter engine carries her up to 32 knots, with a cruising speed of 25 knots for a range of approximately 250 nautical miles. All the performance advancements have implications for comfort, safety, and fuel economy.
