146m OPERA Delivered by Lurssen
By Emily Dawkins
The 146-metre Lurssen superyacht OPERA has been delivered to her owners. Launched in September last year from the German shipyard’s Bremen-based outfitting facilities, the 146m completed her maiden voyage to Portsmouth, in the United Kingdom, where she is currently residing.
Featuring incredible exterior lines from the drawing board of esteemed yacht designer Terence Disdale , OPERA is yet another magnificent superyacht to be completed by German shipyard Lurssen.
A true showcase of its ability to build the largest superyachts in the world, the launch of OPERA came only seven months after Lurssen launched the largest superyacht of the year and its second-largest build, 160m BLUE in February 2022.
Now, OPERA’s delivery comes at a busy time for Lurssen, who launched the 145m Project Luminance and the 90m Project 1601 last month, with other launches also anticipated soon.
Despite showcasing a strong white profile, seven expansive decks, twin helipads, and two open-air swimming pools, many of the details and specifications of OPERA remain tightly under wraps, although she is believed to have a beam of 20 metres and an interior volume of over 10,000 gross tonnes. Her highly secretive interior design has been confirmed as also being designed by Terence Disdale.
OPERA has now become the sixth-largest superyacht within Lurssen’s fleet. At 146m, she surpasses 145m Project Luminance, a recently-launched and staggering Lurssen new build that is expected to be delivered this year, by only one metre.
Now delivered to her owners in the UK, OPERA has made a formidable entry into the world's Top 100 largest yachts , taking an impressive place as the tenth-largest superyacht in the world.

EXCLUSIVE: Lürssen's 146m superyacht Project Opera breaks cover

By Mairead Finlay 16 April 2021
The technical launch of Lürssen's latest superyacht Project Opera has taken place at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg this morning. Due for delivery next year, she is believed to be a replacement for the 146m motor yacht SASSI, which was unfortunately destroyed in a fire at Lürssen's German shipyard in 2018. She's been moved to a floating dock before departing to Bremen shortly where she will begin outfitting and prepare for sea trials.
Project OPERA believed to be a direct replacement of destroyed vessel
As typical of Lürssen projects (such as motor yacht NORD ), superyacht Project Opera's build was shrouded in secrecy and completed in record time too: given that she is reportedly the exact same staggering length as luxury yacht SASSI.
According to our exclusive images of Project Opera at the Hamburg shipyard, she appears to be a direct replacement of the destroyed vessel, with similar porthole window designs. We can see she has generous outdoor spaces, including a Jacuzzi on the sundeck and a large swimming pool on the main deck aft. The photos also reveal she has an ample beach club, swimming platform and tender garages.

As one would expect of a superyacht of this size and calibre, Project Opera will almost certainly have the finest facilities for her owner and guests to enjoy. In terms of convenience and the least intrusion possible, this will likely include an elevator, a separate crew passageway and an owner's study. For the ultimate indulgence, a variety of pampering facilities such as a sauna, spa, massage room and hammam are also anticipated to be featured, providing guests with their own reinvigorating private paradise. Other probable amenities include a cinema and a gym.
As for her expected exterior features, she will likely have 2 helipads, including one on the bow — which has become the new standard for superyachts over 100m.
Will motor yacht OPERA be available for yacht charter?
It is believed that Project Opera will be a private yacht and will not become available for superyacht charters once delivered.

M/Y PROJECT OPERA is believed to be the replacement yacht for the same-sized mega yacht PROJECT SASSI, which was destroyed by a fire at the shipyard in 2018. Europe’s largest floating dock (290m/951.5ft long, 53m/174ft wide and 51m/167ft tall) was employed to bring PROJECT OPERA to the Bremen facilities back in May 2021.
PROJECT OPERA is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure with naval architecture from the shipyard. She has a 20m/65.7ft beam and comes in at 11999 GT.

Few details have been revealed in regard to the styling and amenities aboard the luxury yacht PROJECT OPERA, however, exterior shots reveal a foredeck helipad and a second one on the sundeck aft, a Jacuzzi and sunbeds forward and a cavernous beach club attached to a generous lower deck swim platform. Two stairways sweep up to the main deck two floors above and a swimming pool behind the observation area along the stern.
M/Y PROJECT OPERA is one of four mega yachts currently under construction at Lürssen, the others being 145m/475.8ft luxury yacht LUMINANCE due for launch later in 2022, 122m/400ft JAG in 2023 and 137m/449.5ft ALIBABA in 2024.
Sea trials are expected shortly for PROJECT OPERA, with delivery taking place before the end of 2022.

146M LURSSEN SUPERYACHT PROJECT OPERA CAPTURED
The 146 metre secret superyacht project Project Opera has been videoed changing docks at Lürssen in Germany.
It comes after the yacht was technically launched. Now stationed at a new covered floating dock, the yacht waits to begin outfitting.
Project Opera is understood to be the rebuilt 145m Project Sassi, which was sadly destroyed in the 2018 shipyard fire.
While details remain sparse, Project Opera is understood to have a 20m beam, interior volume exceeding 10000GT and is due for delivery in 2023.
It comes after the bow and aft sections of a 140m+ superyacht project were glimpsed at Lürssen for the first time in February.

Virginia Couple Feared Dead After Yacht Found Violently Ransacked, Three Escaped Prisoners in Custody
A northern Virginia couple is missing and feared dead in the Caribbean after three escaped prisoners stole their yacht.
Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel, members of a sailing association called the Salty Dog, disappeared sometime last week after three prisoners facing robbery and rape charges escaped custody Sunday, according to WTTG .
Family members told the outlet that the Falls Church, Virginia, couple regularly lived on their catamaran yacht Simplicity near Fort Piece, Florida, during the winter months, but were also known to sail to Grenada.
Authorities there believe the three escaped prisoners killed the couple and stole their boat, which was later found in St. Vincent, to the north of Grenada .
Rob Osborn, president of the Salty Dog Sailing Association, said he'd gotten a message from someone who'd spotted the abandoned catamaran.
He called authorities and then reached out to the couple's family to update them.
Investigators described the Simplicity as having been "ransacked."
"This is a tragedy that has shaken our community," Osborn, who also lives on a boat during the colder months, told WTTG. "There are literally 100s of people who do what I do in the winter. I just want everyone to know that this is very rare."
"When people ask us if we worry about pirates, the answer is ‘no.’ These are friendly islands," Osborn said. "Whether you are in NYC, Chicago or here, sometimes bad things happen. And this is heinous."
Suellen Desmarais of Fort Pierce told WPTV that the missing couple were in their 60s. Hendry was her brother, she said, and Brandel his wife.
The couple left Virginia and headed south in November, she said. She holds out hope that they might somehow still be alive.
"Why would I presume anyone is dead with no body and DNA?" she said to WTTG. "I want to remain positive. I want to believe that they are alive."
WTTG reported that the couple's children had traveled to the Caribbean to assist with the investigation.
The Royal Grenada Police Force said in a Thursday post to Facebook that the three escaped prisoners suspected in the theft of the boat had been recaptured and that it had information suggesting that "the two occupants of the yacht may have been killed in the process" of the theft.
Desmarais was nonetheless still seeking answers.
"There's got to be a reason for this so maybe being here we are saving someone else," she told WPTV. "What if Ralph's boat hadn't been there that day? What if he hadn't gone into town? Would it have been the next boat?"
