How Much Does it Cost to Charter A Crewed Yacht in the BVI, USVI & Caribbean? The majority of our charters are all inclusive, starting at around $20,000 per week and up to $70,000 per week, plus tip. Our other category of higher-end yacht charters are "plus all expenses". These higher-end yacht charters start around $50,000, plus all expenses on our power catamarans and around $70,000 plus all expenses on our motor yachts. View our cost tables above to learn more about our typical "all inclusive" or "all-in" crewed yacht charter costs.

What's included in our all- inclusive charters? For the majority of our crewed yacht charters, the rates are "all inclusive" including 8 days/7 nights aboard a private yacht with professional Captain and Chef, 3 meals per day, requested beverages, standard bar, fuel, all expenses related to the running of the vessel, plus use of on-board sports equipment.

What's excluded from our all-inclusive charters?

  • Standard Crew Gratuity : A main cost excluded from the weekly rates is a customary crew gratuity. The standard amount is 15 to 20% of the charter rate. The gratuity is based on services provided throughout the week, can be scaled up or down based on service, and is at the discretion of the client. Be sure to plan this amount into your charter budget.
  • Other exclusions : Unless otherwise specified, the published rate does not include scuba diving, scuba equipment, premium beverages and fine wines, excessive alcoholic consumption, off yacht excursions, dockage (at guests request), telephone, airport transfers or similar expenses incurred by the charter guests. Some yachts also charge for cruising taxes/permits or USVI or BVI port fees, etc. If there are additional costs that you will incur while aboard the yacht, we will let you know those costs at your time of inquiry.

What's included in our plus-expenses charters? These plus expenses crewed yacht charters include the yacht only with all other expenses at an additional cost to the Charterer.

What's excluded from our plus-expenses charters? These plus expenses charters include the yacht only, with all other charter expenses (such as fuel, food, beverage, bar, dockage, etc.) at an additional cost to the Charterer. These expenses are paid via an upfront APA (advance provisioning allowance) and typically at 35% on top of the base charter rate. Another main exclusion is the customary crew gratuity. The standard amount for a gratuity on a plus expenses yacht is 15 to 20% on top of the base charter rate. The gratuity is based on services provided throughout the week, can be scaled up or down based on service, and is at the discretion of the client.

Do the yachts charge a premium for Christmas and New Years Charters? Yes. Christmas and New Year charters have a holiday surcharge added to the published winter weekly rate. Yachts will also mandate specific holiday dates which allow them to book both a Christmas and New Year charter. These charters must be at least one week in length or the Charterer must be willing to pay for a full week's rate if wanting to charter the yacht for less than a week. Some yachts additionally charge premium rates for Thanksgiving and/or Easter week.

Is it possible to charter for less? The charter cost tables represent typical ranges, but there are occasionally available yachts which may charter for less. Review our current yacht specials to see a list of yachts currently offering published specials. Or, consider a 6 night, pro-rated charter as further explained below.

What if we charter for less than one week? A large majority of our all inclusive yachts offer 6 night charters at a pro-rated rate. Many of our clients opt for a 6 night charter as this gets pro-rated on a straight basis and often brings particular recommended yachts into more affordable ranges. To determine 6 night rates, divide the weekly rate by 7 then multiply by 6. To determine 5 night rates (for yachts that are willing to charter 5 nights), the industry divides the weekly rate by 6 then multiplies by 5. Due to this calculation, the difference between a 5 and 6 night charter is minimal.  Please note that our personal minimum charter length is 6 nights.

Do the yachts offer lower prices for the summer/low season? For a majority of yachts, summer/low season runs from May 1 through December 14 and winter/high season runs from December 15 through April 30. Most yachts now operate at a year round rate.

Do prices vary by destination? Yes, charters outside the BVI and USVI are typically more expensive. Our most affordable and largest selection of yacht options are based in the USVI and BVI from November through July. When yachts are willing to travel outside of the BVI and USVI to other Caribbean destinations or the Bahamas, the end charter rate is typically higher than its counterpart in the Virgin Islands. Cruising taxes/permits are always extra outside of the BVI and USVI and delivery fees often apply for the yacht to get to other destinations. In the Bahamas, most yachts are plus all expenses at 35% on top of the noted base rate plus an additional 4% Bahamas tax and an added 10% Bahamas VAT tax.

Do prices vary by yacht style? Yes, charter costs on our power catamarans and traditional motor yachts are definitely higher than aboard our sailing catamarans. A bulk of the extra cost incurred is due to the fuel expense on these yachts as well as other additional factors. Please note that sailing catamarans are by far our most popular yacht style, have the ability to motor between islands as well, and you'll find the most yacht options to choose from within this yacht style category.

Will the yachts negotiate on price? No. Our yachts set their own rates, have "published rates" within the industry, and have priced themselves competitively based on current market trends. However, several of our yachts do offer published specials throughout the year.

Will the yachts give a discount if you have meals ashore? Many of our yachts offer half-board charters at a minimal reduction in the charter rate. These half-board charters typically include 7 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 3 dinners aboard with the remainder of meals, or one meal per day, taken ashore at the Charterer's expense. These half-board charters will often cost more overall than a full board charter, where all of your meals are included aboard. If you only plan to have a meal or two ashore there is no reduction in rate.

Do you offer charters with just a Captain aboard? While some of your yachts may note a Captain-Only rate within their rate notes, we will not book this type of charter and do not recommend this type of charter for our clients.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht?

There are many things to consider and first time charterers can be left confused, that's why we've created a comprehensive guide to yacht charter prices (with a checklist).

charter cost explained banner

The good news: It’s easy to grasp the basics of yacht charter pricing. And with one of our experts in your corner, we can help you more accurately estimate the cost of your next once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

The cost of a yacht charter is dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the charter destination, local taxes, and the base cost. (If the yacht has a celebrity owner, well that too, can add to the cost.)

Therefore, yacht charters have a wide range of base prices. That’s why charters can cost from $10,000 per week on smaller sailing yachts and catamarans, up to $150,000+ per week on the most luxurious motor superyachts.

What else can you expect to pay? This overview – a part of our planning resource, the Charter Advice Guide – offers an in-depth look at charter yacht costs.

Yacht Charter Price Structure: “All-Inclusive” vs “Plus Expenses”

In the world of yachting, two types of crewed yacht charters are available to you – “All-Inclusive” and “Plus Expenses” charter experiences. What do these terms mean exactly? Here’s a quick look:

  • All-Inclusive Yacht Charters – Some charters (mainly catamaran and monohull charters in the Virgin Islands) offer all-inclusive rates. That means rates are based on the number of guests, and they include all food and drink, water sports, and fuel costs. Dockage and taxes, though, are usually charged separately.
  • Plus Expenses Charters – Rates for larger motor yachts do not include running expenses, which must be paid separately. For these luxury charters, the base price is for the yacht only. Additional expenses, i.e. food, bar, fuel, dockage, port taxes, and other expenses, are charged separately. Most frequently, the running expenses are paid by an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, which is typically 35% of the base price; this is an amount that’s paid prior to the charter.

Our chart below offers a quick overview of what’s included in both of these types of charters.

charter cost comparison chart

Average Yacht Charter Cost: Base Prices

What can you expect to pay for a catamaran, a sailing vessel, or motored yacht? Here’s a quick overview of the average cost to rent a yacht (not including extra expenses) for the most common types available:

Factors that Affect Yacht Charter Prices

Since charter yachts are privately owned, prices are set by the owner. This can explain, in part, the wide range of differences in price between boats of similar lengths. Yet, several other factors can significantly impact price, including:

  • The Yacht – The year the boat was built, the builder, previous owners, and the boat’s selection of water toys can also increase the cost of a yacht. Boats can also develop a reputation, i.e. the largest or most luxurious, or having a famous builder or previous owner. Reputation can also affect pricing.
  • Season – Prices typically increase in the high season – i.e. high summer in the Mediterranean or winter in the Caribbean – and decrease in low seasons.
  • Destination – Your charter destination also plays a role in charter cost. For example, prices increase in areas without large charter fleets (i.e. the Galapagos), whereas Bahamas yacht charters,   BVI charters , or Mediterranean yacht charter are priced more competitively.

Additional Costs Considerations on Yacht Charter

In addition to the cost associated with running the yacht and provisioning, there are a number of other costs that must be considered. These are the most significant:

Advanced Provisioning Allowance

The APA on Plus Expenses charters equals roughly 35% of the yacht’s base price. This is a fee that’s collected prior to charter, and it’s similar to an expense account the captain can access during the charter. At the end of the charter, you will receive a detailed accounting of your APA account, plus any unused APA funds in cash.

In the case of overages, you may be required to replenish the APA account during the charter. This can be done with cash, although many choose to set up accounts with their charter brokers , which can be accessed if requested by the captain.

Taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT)

Most boats – whether all-inclusive or Plus Expenses – will not include local taxes or a Value Added Tax into their charter rate. The charterer will be responsible for paying those taxes. Taxes range significantly by destination; here’s a look at some of yachting’s most popular destinations:

  • The Bahamas – Tax: 4% plus 10% VAT
  • BVI – Tax: between $6 and $16 per person per day, depending on the flag of the boat
  • Croatia – VAT: 13%
  • Florida – Tax: 6% for Broward County, 7% for Miami-Dade County
  • France – VAT: 20%, however, 10% can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
  • Greece – VAT: 12%
  • Italy – VAT: 22%, however 6.6% (over 24m) and 8.8% (under 24m) can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
  • Montenegro – NO VAT
  • New England – NO TAX
  • Spain – VAT: 21%
  • Turkey – NO VAT

Charterers can purchase cancellation and curtailment insurance – which is similar to traveler’s insurance. This insurance can help cover costs if a charterer must cancel or shorten the charter. Charter brokers can help you weigh insurance options, and often offer several different options.

Crew Gratuity

While crew gratuity is certainly not mandatory, it is recommended, particularly if you were truly impressed with your charter experience. In general, crew gratuity is roughly 15-20% of the base charter rate, which is handed to the captain at the conclusion of your charter.

Delivery Fees

While these fees do not apply on most charters, you may be asked to pay delivery costs if you are not chartering in the yacht’s normal cruising ground. In most cases, you will only be required to cover the fuel for the trip.

Additional Charter Cost FAQs

What are standard private charter yacht prices?

There are a number of factors that affect charter yacht pricing. However, on average, a week-long private yacht charter costs anywhere from $10,000 on luxurious sailing yachts and catamarans, and up to $150,000 for superyachts.

What affects charter yacht prices?

There are several things that influence how much your yacht charter will cost. The type of vessel, charter destination, length of trip, base cost, time of year, and local taxes all make a difference.

How much does it cost for a crewed vessel?

Charter yacht prices do increase when hiring a crew along with the boat. At Worldwide Boat, we offer two types of crewed charter experiences: all-inclusive and plus expenses. An all-inclusive charter yacht includes accommodation for all guests, food and drink, water sport activities, and fuel costs – dockage fees and taxes are charged separately. A plus expenses experience accounts for just the yacht’s base price. Things like food, drinks, fuel, dockages, taxes, and other expenses are charged separately and are usually estimated to be about 35% of the base price.

What’s included in all-inclusive boat charters?

At Worldwide Boat, your all-inclusive charter experience includes a diligent and friendly crew, water toys, food, drinks, fuel, water and electric services, and occasionally diving experiences.

What are some additional charter boat costs to consider?

After finding a base price you’re comfortable with and evaluating your package, you’ll also want to consider delivery fees, crew gratuity, insurance fees, taxes, and Advanced Provisioning Allowance rates. If you are responsible for these fees, your crew will handle the necessary transactions on your behalf.

What does it cost to rent a 100- foot yacht charter?

This depends on what type of vessel you’re looking at and how long you’ll need it for. The average weekly cost of a 100-foot sailing yacht is between $50,000-100,000. A weekly 80-foot catamaran charter runs around $40,000-100,000, and a week-long 100-foot motor yacht rental is anywhere between $50,000-80,000.

Does the price to rent a yacht change depending on what type of boat it is?

Yes. Worldwide Boat offers sailing yachts, catamarans, and motor yachts. All of these vessels have different capabilities, but there are other factors that determine the price beyond what type of boat you choose. The year the boat was built, owner, availability of water toys, onboard amenities, and the ship’s reputation can all change how much the ship is priced at.

When is the high season for yacht charters?

The price of a yacht fluctuates depending on the season. A Mediterranean yacht charter cost rises in the summer and drops in the winter, whereas Caribbean boat charter prices are high during the winter and lower in the summer months.

How does my destination affect charter yacht cost?

The more remote an area is, the more expensive it will be to charter a yacht there. That’s because prices go up in areas that have fewer boats. If you were to travel somewhere like the Galapagos, which isn’t a typical yacht destination, you’d pay more than you would if you were traveling to the Caribbean.

How much do I tip the crew when reviewing my yacht charter expenses?

It’s not required that you tip your crew, but it is recommended and appreciated. If you had an enjoyable experience it’s considered polite to tip your crew anywhere from 15-20% at the end of your charter.

Here is a sample itinerary so you can start dreaming about your US Virgin Islands sailing charter.  Why wait, contact us and let us help you plan your USVI yacht charter

Caneel Bay

Welcome aboard! Boarding times vary on the charter company. When you are ready to depart, you can enjoy a lovely sail over to Caneel Bay on St John, which is a perfect stop for an overnight for your first evening on board. This is a beautiful bay to enjoy an evening walk along the beach and enjoy some sundowners on the deck before dinner!

Trunk Bay, St John, United States Virgin Islands.

Wake up at your leisure and enjoy your coffee on the bow, take in the beautiful morning vistas. If you are feeling energetic, enjoy a quiet paddleboard along the shallow shores and experience the tranquillity of the Caribbean morning.  After breakfast, set sail and head to the famous Trunk Bay to explore the underwater world before lunch. Then off to Francis Bay or a little further east to Waterlemon Cay, Leinster Bay, St John, for the night. There are some great trails onshore to stretch out your sea legs, particularly the trail up to the Annaberg Plantation, which is in great condition and takes you back to the days of milling sugar cane to make rum.

USVI Itineraries - Horizon Yacht Charters

In the morning, there is plenty of time for a lovely snorkel before you head off to Coral Harbor, located on the South-Eastern side of St John. Here, there is a fun, floating taco bar serving amazing tacos, you can dine in one of their large floating tables, pick up and dine on board or they will deliver to your yacht. If you head ashore to walk around, you will find the Calabash Market, in Johnson Bay where there are some souvenir shops, pottery shops and some clothing stores to browse around.  Lots of fun and good restaurants for dinner options too or have a short afternoon sail around to Hansen Bay for your overnight.

Lameshur Bay in the United States Virgin Islands

After breakfast, a nice short sail around the south point of St John to the turtle viewing hotspot – Lameshur Bay National Park. There is a great walking trail/hike called the Yawzi Point Trail for you to enjoy and stretch your legs. If the weather is good, you can head to a bay around the corner called Genti Bay and explore some more sugar mill ruins. If not, then a taxi can be arranged if you would like to see this historical site.   Head to Great Cruz Bay for your overnight anchorage.

PizzaPi

Today would be a great day to take in some of the beautiful sites of St John – either taxi over or sail around to Cruz Bay which is the heart of St John.  Normally hustling and bustling with cruise ship activity, it is so quiet without the ships in port at the moment, a perfect time to go ashore! We can arrange an island tour for you to enjoy some of the beautiful National Parks sites that St John has to offer. This would be a great time to get some shopping in, and sample some of the local VI cultures and have a lovely lunch or dinner ashore or have a gentle afternoon sail across to overnight at Christmas Cove on Great Saint James Island, which homes the famous and award-winning floating restaurant Pizza Pi that serves amazing homemade Italian pizzas! Something different to see, for sure.

Famous 99 Steps in Charlotte Amalie

Sail to Water Island, which gets its name from being one of the few places in the Caribbean with freshwater ponds where sailing vessels of old could replenish their freshwater casks. You can get a ferry ashore to Crown Bay Marina if you would like to explore historical Frenchtown and Charlotte Amalie – also renowned for fabulous shopping and restaurants.  Or spend the day exploring by dinghy (but watch out for traffic in this busy area), getting yourself ready to think about packing up the boat to head back to the Marina.

Sail back to base to complete your charter, have your debrief and hand over the yacht, getting ready to head back to the Cyril E King Airport for the flight home (no further PCR tests are required for entry back to the US from the USVI).

This itinerary can be extended a few days to allow time to sail and explore Hans Lollik Island and Little Hans Lollik on the North of St Thomas; the beautiful Magen’s Bay, St Thomas and for the more adventurous sail west to the beautiful Spanish Virgin Islands of Culebra (where you will clear Customs), Culebrita, and Vieques.  Or sail South to the beautiful island of St Croix – or do both!

6 Tips For Choosing The Best Yacht Charter Experience

C hartering a yacht is the ultimate in custom vacationing, a travel trend that gained traction during COVID and shows no signs of stopping. It offers travelers an opportunity to reach their dream destinations in comfort, style, and exclusivity. The best part: Very often, this bespoke experience can be cheaper than a cruise on a higher-end line you’d have to share with a lot of strangers!

Here are six tips for choosing the best yacht charter experience to suit your style, tastes, and holiday goals!

1. Work Within Your Budget

For most travelers, money is indeed an object, or at least a big consideration. A great charter company has a fleet of vessels at its fingertips, from smaller options such as a catamaran or sailing yacht all the way up to a super yacht with ultra amenities. Their team will work with you to assess your travel budget and offer appropriate options. Keep in mind: There’s all sorts of costs — such as fuel, docking fees, and other extras — that factor into a vacation like this. Some companies roll most of those items into a blanket price, others will calculate them separately or in an overage fee called an “advance provisioning allowance.”

Quick Example: Last year, I sailed on the super yacht Ohana in Croatia. It was part of the Goolets charter group based in Slovenia, which charges a flat weekly accommodation cost; an advance provisioning fee is assessed for food, beverages, and any other extras. The lovely ship slept up to 30 guests quite comfortably and all-in at high season (with APF included) was about $143,000 a week. Steep? Sure, at first glance. But broken down per person, the cost comes out to about $4,300 for each friend or family member. That’s food, drinks, excursions, everything. So, it turns out this kind of travel can indeed be budget-friendly and a good charter will work with you to maximize your money.

2. Location, Location, Location

When considering a private yacht vacation, location is everything. The good news is that charter companies operate all over the world, from the aforementioned Croatia to Australia, the Caribbean, Indonesia, and everywhere there’s sea in between.

If you’ve got a dream destination on your bucket list, a private yacht vacation will help get you there. Choose a charter company that has deep bench strength in the region you want to visit. They’ll have a wide range of yachts and corresponding itineraries for you to consider, ensuring the perfect experience for you and your party. Whether you crave the party scene of Greece, Italy, or the Riviera, or prefer something more far-flung and secluded such as the Seychelles or Maldives, a yacht charter experience will have you covered.

3. Consider Your Entire Party’s Needs

Another big perk of a great charter company: They will handle all the onboard logistics during your cruise, considering your entire party’s interests, must-dos, mobility levels, and even special occasions in an easy, effortless manner. They will interview you ahead of time to assess your interests, then craft an itinerary that suits everyone from start to finish. Keep in mind, they know the local area, plus have access to the best guides and onshore experiences. They will pull out all the stops to make sure everyone in your group has a terrific time.

Culture vultures to party animals will have the perfect vacation planned for them by the yacht charter. From city walking tours led by historians to exclusive access to the best clubs and other hotspots, the charter company and your yacht’s onboard staff are there to make sure it’s all picture-perfect. And if you feel like scrapping your schedule for the day and choosing to stay on the water? That’s just fine, too. The crew will roll with your wishes and honor them.

4. Food And Beverages = Big Deals On Board

No question about it, fabulous food and hand-crafted beverages are central to a terrific private yacht experience. Again, this is where that thorough pre-interview really comes into play. A charter company will consider not just preferences, but any allergies, dietary considerations, or religious restrictions to make sure the chef is prepped accordingly. Expect special snacks and other surprise touches to shine through as well; during my charter, a special birthday cake was procured and presented to a young guest after dinner on his big day.

While the yacht’s team will make sure your food tastes just as spectacular as it looks, they’ll also likely lean into the regional culinary scene with locally sourced fruits, vegetables, meats, and of course, seafood! Keep in mind your yacht’s stewards are responsible for keeping bar service running smoothly; by the second day, they knew which mid-afternoon cocktail I fancied (Croatian sparkling wine) and which wines I preferred at dinner. My glass was never empty, until I signaled I was done for the evening.

Bottom Line: Your culinary service should be seamless and impeccable during your time on board.

5. Don’t Forget The Water Toys

Water toys are a big part of a private yacht experience — you’re on the water after all and want to make sure you can get out there and enjoy it. Look for a vessel that has a robust fleet of options that align with your party’s fitness level and recreation (or adrenaline!) goals. Kayaks, rafts, and jet skis are all fairly standard; some yachts also include seabobs, massive water slides, and even inflatable water playgrounds to ensure multi-gen fun on the water.

Pro Tip: Depending on the destination, divers will also want to inquire about scuba or snorkel equipment.

6. Find A “Your Wish Is Their Command” Crew

One of the best parts of a private yacht vacation is the bespoke service you’ll experience every step of the way; the goal is to make sure you want for nothing during your time on board. Craving a cucumber water while you’re lounging on deck? They’ll have it. Want to make sure there are snacks waiting for you after you return from kayaking? Of course! And want to take your dinner to another level? Crews take great pride in creating over-the-top table masterpieces and theme nights that will dazzle everyone in your party.

Of course, crews can and do accommodate more outrageous requests, but don’t be that Below Deck nightmare and ask them for something that’s illegal. It puts them in a terrible position where they could be held liable, and it’s just not cool.

Keep In Mind: A crew that provides excellent service deserves excellent recognition. Be kind and make sure you factor an appropriate tip into your budget. It’s very often not included in the price of the charter or advance provisioning fee.

Like hand-in-glove, yacht charters from the U.S. Virgin Islands traditionally include stops in the British Virgin Islands . The BVI’s closed borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted charter companies and crews to come up with USVI-only charter itineraries. Even after the beautiful BVI re-opens, USVI-only itineraries are perfect for U.S. residents that don’t have a passport and thus can’t travel to the BVI or for those who’d like to experience a few off-the-beaten-track anchorages.

“The USVI’s may be overlooked for their neighbor, the BVIs, but you’ll find that familiar Caribbean welcome and impressive beaches in the USVIs too,” says Dan Lockyer, vice president of global tourism for Annapolis, MD-based Dream Yacht Charter , which opened its USVI base at St. Thomas’ Compass Point Marina in June 2020. “St. John is renowned for its beautiful coastline and fine snorkeling among coral reefs, vibrant colored fish, turtles and rays. There are some fun dining options too that cater specifically to charter boats. It’s an ideal destination for any sailor.”

Sailing with Charlie with The Itinerary

In addition to exceptional snorkeling, fishing, sailing, world-class beaches, and laid-back beach bars and restaurants, the USVIs feature easy access not found in nearly any other Caribbean island, adds Ian Pedersen, senior marketing manager for the Clearwater, FL-headquartered The Moorings and Sunsail , which opened a base at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande Marina on St. Thomas in March. “Featuring non-stop flights from multiple major East Coast hubs, St. Thomas is just a quick (and relatively inexpensive) flight away, and being a U.S. territory, no passport is required for U.S. citizens. Aside from Puerto Rico, no Caribbean destination is as convenient a getaway as the USVI.”

A typical 7-day itinerary for the USVIs features charter stops in St. Thomas, St. John and the territory’s surrounding rocks and cays. St. Croix, located 40 miles to the south, could be a bit ambitious to reach given the distance, but there are ways to include the nicknamed ‘Twin City’ island’ into an itinerary (see Sidebar) .

Christmas Cove, St. Thomas. Photo courtesy of The Moorings

Day 1: Christmas Cove & Red Hook, St. Thomas.

Cast off en route to St. Thomas’s east end. “Visit Christmas Cove on Great St. James, then try the floating pizza restaurant Pizza Pi – delivery and pick up options available. Before picking up dinner, snorkel the bay and get close to the variety of marine life,” suggests Dream Yacht’s Lockyer. Or, in the evening, dinghy around to Red Hook. There are several restaurants and bars here, as well as clothing, jewelry and watersports shops.

Magens Bay, St. Thomas. Photo courtesy of The Moorings

Day 2: Magens Bay, St. Thomas.

Sail around the northeast coast of St. Thomas to the Atlantic Ocean and then west to Magens Bay. “Magens Bay is one of the most popular beaches in the USVI and was voted one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world by National Geographic,” says The Moorings and Sunsail’s Pedersen.

Photo courtesy of Dream Yacht Charter

Day 3: Cruz Bay, St. John.

Head east, across Pillsbury Sound, to St. John. Pick up a mooring off Honeymoon Beach, then dinghy into Cruz Bay. “Discover the Virgin Islands National Park, which has its Visitor’s Center in Cruz Bay. There are many bars, restaurants and shops in Cruz Bay,” says Lockyer.

Leinster Bay, St. John. Photo courtesy of The Moorings

Day 4: North Shore Beaches, St. John.

Spend the day exploring St. John’s north shore beaches. “The crown jewel of the Virgin Islands National Park, Trunk Bay, is an unbelievably photogenic paradise. Featuring 650 feet of underwater trails, this is the perfect place to snorkel,” recommends Pedersen. Then, go to Francis Bay to overnight. “Maho Bay Beach is a great place to spot turtles and rays in the seagrass and shallow waters. If you want to try the local atmosphere, get lunch at Maho Crossroads – a pop-up village with food and bar,” adds Lockyer.

Day 5: Waterlemon Cay & Leinster Bay, St. John.

Located east of Maho Bay, this small uninhabited cay and surrounding bay feature plenty of healthy coral. Look out too for starfish, conch and turtles. “If you are in the mood to explore, walk to the Annaberg Plantation sugar mill ruins. For lunch, head over to Hansen Bay to taste the tacos from the floating restaurant Lime Out. You can dine sitting at their seats and tables in the water,” suggests Lockyer.

Photo courtesy of Dream Yacht Charter

Day 6: Coral Bay, St. John.

It’s just a short sail away from Leinster Bay to this easternmost settlement on the island. There are several bars and restaurants here, many of which offer live music on the weekends, as well as a mail service, grocery store and souvenir shops. Historical sites include the Emmaus Moravian Church and ruins of the 18th-century Danish fort, Fortsberg. To explore further, sail southwest to Salt Pond Bay for a quiet overnight.

The Ugly Aspects of the Seemingly Perfect Paradise

Honeymoon Beach, Water Island. Photo courtesy of The Moorings

Day 7: Water Island.

Prepare for a half-day passage to Water Island and Honeymoon Beach, located just off St. Thomas Charlotte Amalie harbor. “Listen to live music and dine at Heidi’s Honeymoon Grill or Dinghy’s Beach Bar & Grill. Or you can overnight in Lindberg Bay and dine at beachfront Emerald Bay Resort,” says Lockyer. St. Thomas’ Cyril E King Airport is across the street from this resort. Or the Moorings base is a 30-minute motor sail away and Dream Yacht’s Compass Point base is a 1-to-2-hour sail east. These 7 days of itinerary suggestions make the perfect way to see the USVI by sea.

St. Croix should be part of Every Charter Itinerary

Many 5-star marinas are just a short tender ride away from the airport, extending an invitation to linger and explore the surrounding area. With casinos, bars, and gourmet restaurants, your evenings are packed with entertainment, while your days can be filled with adventure or visits to the local museums.

Our recommended 7 days yachting itineraries from Nassau:

Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, is a popular starting point for yachting adventures in the beautiful waters of the Bahamas. There are several fantastic yachting itineraries you can consider, depending on your preferences, the duration of your trip, and the stops you’d like to make. Here are a few possible yachting itineraries starting from Nassau:

  • From Nassau to Eleuthera
  • From Nassau to the Exumas

1) Week Yacht Charter Itinerary from Nassau to Eleuthera, Harbor and Paradise Islands

week-yacht-itinerary-from-nassau-to-eleuthera

Day One – Nassau

You will begin your sailing itinerary from Nassau, Bahamas’ capital, which with nearby Paradise Island, offers 5-star beaches, casinos, boutiques, and luxury resorts.

Here there are plenty of ways to spend your time, whether you just want to relax or you want to discover all that this beautiful location has to offer:

Bay Street is the main street in the city. It is the shopping center, and here you can find the boutiques of the most expensive jewelers, souvenir shops, duty-free liquor, and much more. On the sides of the road, you can see the typical buildings that reflect the style of the ancient British colony.

Fort Fincastle is one of the main places to visit in Nassau. It was built in 1793 using limestone in a strategic position on the top of Bennet hill to protect the historic center of the city and its port. From here, you can enjoy a fantastic view of Paradise Island. You must walk through the famous Queen’s Staircase to reach the fort. It was built together with Fort Fincastle for defensive purposes and has 65 steps. The name was given in memory of Queen Victoria.

Finally, if you want to spend a few hours on the beach, the closest to the center is Junkanoo Beach, also called Western Esplanade. This area connects the two shores of Arawak Cay and Long Wharf. They are the most relative to downtown Nassau and are a few minutes walk from the cruise ship dock. The sand is white and beautiful. However, this country can offer a much better beach and sea.

7 day yacht charter

Day Two – St George’s Cay

You’ll be at St George’s Caye by the second day of your yacht charter itinerary from Nassau. Famous for its lobster, this island is just to the north of Eleuthera. You can explore the Spanish Wells and sample some of the finest cuisines the Bahamas has to offer.

St George’s Cay is just a few hours by boat from New Providence island.

Famous for its lobster, this island is located just north of Eleuthera and is mainly known for the Spanish Wells resort. The isolation, silence, and serenity breathed in these places attract visitors, who also find turquoise waters accompanied by the sound of the light Atlantic surf.

The Spanish Wells is a magical place. Whether you are looking for a relaxing beach or adrenaline-pumping activities, Spanish Wells Bahamas has something for everyone.

Its beaches are beautiful and empty. White and dusty sand, shallow turquoise waters. A safe place for the whole family, perfect to let your loved ones, especially the little ones, have fun in absolute tranquility. Exactly what you want for your beach vacation.

Fishing is also excellent in this area thanks to the great diversity of species that populate the sea. You will have the opportunity to practice different styles, including deep sea fishing, reef fishing, bone fishing, spearfishing, and other variations that suit all your preferences.

7 day yacht charter

Day Three and Four – Eleuthera

At the halfway point of your navigation, your journey comes alive. A short distance from St George’s Cay is Eleuthera and Harbor Island, considered by many to be one of the liveliest and most chic parts of the whole country.

Small Harbor Island is a real gem and a must for tourists and celebrities who choose this area. It is a picturesque island characterized by historic New England-style architecture. Still, it is best known for its beautiful Pink Sand Beach, located along the eastern side of the Atlantic Ocean. The beach stretches for about three miles and is 50 to 100 feet wide. Considered one of the best beaches in the Bahamas, it has been included in The Travel Channel’s Best Beaches in the World segment.

The almost indescribable pale pink color of the sand comes from microscopic coral animals with a bright pink shells. These animals live on the underside of coral reefs, on the seabed, under rocks, and in caves. After the death of the insect, the action of the waves mixes the shell with sand and coral pieces, creating this particular effect. Unlike other parts of the world, the sand here is always fresh so that you can walk freely in bare feet!

Eleuthera is instead a vast expanse of wild beauty. It is the largest island in the area, extending from north to south for kilometers. The Glass Window Bridge will leave you breathless among the many natural wonders it offers its visitors. It is one of the few places in the world where you can compare the rich dark blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on one side of the road and the tranquil turquoise Eleuthera Bay on the other, separated only by a strip of rock. about 30 feet wide.

The Queen’s Baths (or hot tubs) are located south of the Glass-Window Bridge, on the Atlantic side of the island, and are fabulous natural pools carved by centuries of waves beating on the rock. The best time to visit them is during the low or medium tide.

7 day yacht charter

Day Five – Harbor Island

This day is dedicated to diving. It would be a waste to visit the Bahamas without seeing the wonders that its seabed offers.

Eleuthera and Harbor Island waters count more wrecks than any other island in the Bahamas. What’s more, coral reefs and dive sites are affordable for everyone.

With visibility up to 60 meters deep and waters with the perfect temperature for most of the year, they hardly compare to an ideal diving destination!

7 day yacht charter

Day Six – Surfer’s Beach

Governor’s Harbor is a charming town on Eleuthera and is also home to Surfer’s Beach, one of the best surfing areas worldwide.

If surfing the waves is your thing (even if you’re a novice), put on your gear and head to Surfer’s Beach, where southwestern winds blow from the Atlantic. It is the second-largest beach in the world for surfing, and many experts compare surfing here with the Hawaiian Islands.

Even if you’re less sporty and just want to watch, the two-mile stretch of beach has some of the best sugary white sands in the Bahamas!

7 day yacht charter

Day Seven – Back to Paradise Islands

End your week aboard your charter yacht by returning to Nassau. More precisely, head to Paradise Island, and before disembarking, enjoy the white sand and the blue sea for the last time. You can alternatively take the opportunity to visit one of the most exclusive and iconic resorts in the world: the Atlantis Bahamas Resort .

Note: itinerary days or week/s can be adjusted and amended per individual guest choice .

By Richard Watkins   Last Updated: 11 February 2022

The Italian island of Sardinia is one of the most inviting and rewarding destinations in the Mediterranean for superyachts. Discover how to make the most out of a Sardinia yacht charter with our 7-day itinerary.

From chic 5-star resorts to wild and remote coastlines dotted with secluded beaches, Sardinia offers a beguiling variety of landscapes and ports of call.

With so much to fit in, take a look at this 7-day Sardinia yacht charter itinerary , which combines everything there is to love about this beautiful island.

Day 1 - Explore the elegant resort of Porto Rotondo

Although not as well known as its Costa Smeralda neighbor, Porto Cervo , the resort of Porto Rotondo is an attractive destination with a well-equipped marina. Set on a crescent-shaped bay, it offers a more peaceful and laid-back introduction to Sardinia.

Port of Porto Rotondo in Sardinia, with houses by the water and charter yachts in the bay

If you simply want to relax before you begin your luxury Sardinia yacht charter vacation , there are a number of fine beaches nearby. One such beach is Punta Volpe, a curve of soft golden sand which is a particularly good spot for snorkeling. Another good option is Rudargia, a smaller white sandy beach backed by wild Mediterranean vegetation.

If you want to stay on shore for dinner, try Ristorante Deste, which serves a menu of Italian seafood and an excellent selection of wines with fine sea views.

Day 2 - Relax on the idyllic beaches of the Gulf or Orosei

Cruising southwards along the east coast of Sardinia, you will reach the spectacular Gulf of Orosei, speckled with hidden coves and isolated beaches. The best of these is Cala Luna, known locally as Spiaggia di Cala Luna, an inviting crescent of powdery white sand backed by high sea cliffs and fringed with wild pink oleanders.

7 day yacht charter

Remote and difficult to reach from land, Cala Luna is best approached by sea, making it an ideal stopover for those exploring the coast on a private yacht charter. The beach is warm and sheltered by the surrounding cliffs, and this is also a great place for snorkeling.

If you want to spend more time in the area, the Bue Marino Caves, with their remarkable stalactites and stalagmites, are just 3km away to the north, while Cala Mariolu, named one of Italy's most beautiful beaches, lies to the south. The sea, which changes in hue from pale blue to deep emerald green, is particularly clear here, making Cala Mariolu a perfect location for scuba diving.

Day 3 - Discover the historic city of Cagliari

Rounding the southern coast of Sardinia, it's time to visit the island's capital, Cagliari . An ancient settlement dating back thousands of years, Cagliari was occupied by a succession of empires, from Carthage and Rome to Aragon and Savoy, who all left their mark.

7 day yacht charter

Wander through the historic Castello - the Old Town - and discover the 14th-century Torre dell'Elefante (Tower of the Elephant), the striking cathedral and the grand neoclassical Bastione di Saint Remy which offers wonderful views over the city.

If you're staying ashore for dinner, try Niu, a friendly and informal restaurant housed in a former monastery, which offers a menu of classic Sardinian specialties.

Day 4 - Experience the wild beauty of southwest Sardinia

Following the coast westwards today, you will cruise past the island of Sant'Antioco, which has many attractive beaches, such as the sand and pebble beach at Maladroxia, popular with scuba divers. Just inland, the Nuragic site of S'Ega de Marteddu is worth a look for those interested in archaeology.

7 day yacht charter

Heading north you'll reach the wild Costa Verde, a paradise for surfers, with long, secluded sandy beaches and high waves, while inland there are fascinating ancient monuments to explore such as the Roman Temple of Antas at Fluminimaggiore. Those with more time can discover the UNESCO-listed remains of Su Nuraxi, an impressive megalithic settlement dating back to the 17th century BC.

Day 5 - Enjoy a wander through Alghero

Seascape of Alghero, with old battlements by the sea

Continuing north along the western coast of Sardinia, you will reach Alghero , a city with a distinct Catalan character. Take time to explore the Old Town, with its cobbled lanes, squares and medieval churches, and stop for lunch at Al Tuguri to sample the city's famous Catalan-inspired cuisine.

One sight not to miss while you are here is the breathtaking Grotta di Nettuno - Neptune's Grotto - in the nearby rocky headland of Capo Caccia. One of the largest marine caves in Italy , it is renowned for its remarkably beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. It is an easy day excursion from Alghero and a highlight of any Sardinia yacht charter vacation.

Day 6 - Cruise through the spectacular La Maddalena islands

Lying off the northern tip of Sardinia, La Maddalena is the main island in a beautiful and unspoiled archipelago, said to be one of the best-kept secrets in the Mediterranean and home to some of Italy's best beaches and clearest waters.

7 day yacht charter

Explore the islands on your yacht and you will find plenty of secluded beaches where you can come ashore to relax, have a picnic and enjoy the natural beauty of these special islands.

Try Cala Corsara, a series of four sandy beaches on the tiny island of Spargi, separated by rocky outcrops and surrounded by typical Mediterranean vegetation. This area is a protected national park, with clear water and rich marine life, making it an excellent place for diving.

Day 7 - Enjoy a party in Porto Cervo

On your final day, cruise into Porto Cervo , the 'capital' of Costa Smeralda and one of the most popular destinations for Mediterranean yacht charters . A favorite of the international Jet Set, Porto Cervo is a sophisticated and exciting resort with so much going on.

While you're here, pay a visit to the legendary Hotel Cala di Volpe for cocktails on the terrace overlooking the sea, and then head to dinner at one of the property's highly regarded restaurants. Anchor your yacht nearby and take a tender into Cala di Volpe's private moorings.

7 day yacht charter

For the very best seafood with glorious views of the bay, head to Quattro Passi al Pescatore, the oldest, and still one of the best restaurants in Porto Cervo. Afterward, celebrate the conclusion of your Sardinia yacht charter vacation in style and party with the A-Listers at Billionaire Club.

Before leaving this beautiful island behind, be sure to head to Petra Segreta, a tranquil 5-star resort in the hills south of Porto Cervo, and enjoy a relaxing massage in the Balinese-style spa.
