New York and its skyline were the inspiration for this yacht’s styling, from the Empire State skyscrapers on the bar stools in the sky lounge bar, lit by uplighters reminiscent of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty, to the firebird figurehead that looks as if it may have flown in from the Chrysler Building. Everything, from the door handles to the cutlery, is hand-made, each a work of art in its own right.

From the ballroom, move aft past the full-height windows, circular lounge and onto the aft deck, where a spiral staircase leads up to the upper deck and the emphasis on good times continues. Past the buffet lounge is a winter garden with guest dining in open air or climate control, as conditions dictate, then continue down the boardwalk-style sidedecks to the jacuzzi lounge.

After a night of revelry, head to the bridge deck. Take the rivetted-aluminium spiral staircase or the elevator, which runs from the tank deck, home to the Radio City-inspired cinema with popcorn maker, to the bridge deck, and you’ll find a gym overlooking the aft helipad (there is a second on the foredeck). Sweat it out in the hammam or have a massage in the beauty salon. After that, the sun deck beckons, with its 7m (23ft) oval pool with skylights filtering natural light into the lobby below. Then soak up the sun or snooze in the shade on the sunpads and sun lounges.

To get ashore, take the elevator to the lower deck lobby where one of two 10m (32.8ft) tenders is waiting to take you wherever you want to go. For using an armada of watertoys however, the place to be is the 4m (13.1ft)-deep swim platform, complete with hydraulic bathing steps.

The full-beam owner’s suite, forward on the main deck, is similarly bewitching. Accessed from the main deck or via a glass spiral staircase from the owner’s private observation lounge and office on the upper deck. The circular sweep of the windows and their wraparound views is echoed in the black circle in the carpet and the recessed lighting overhead. A spectacular his-and-hers bathrooms in contrasting marbles features a bath and a steam shower and one of the walk-in wardrobes can be concealed should her new owner wish to operate her commercially.

With a range of 6,000nm and Quantum stabilisers, this impeccably maintained 2,667GT yacht, defies limits on what is possible.

Black Pearl is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 5,400 nautical miles at cruising speed.

When not cruising Black Pearl has onboard an incredible selection of water toys and accessories for you and your guests to connect with the waters around you. Guests can experience the thrill and adventure of riding one of the two WaveRunners. Another excellent feature are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. In addition there are Cayago SEABOBs providing agile cruising and diving. If that isn't enough Black Pearl also features wakeboards, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. 74m 'flying' yacht concept Plectrum revealed by Lazzarini Design Studio

A 74 metre concept foiling yacht called Plectrum has been revealed by Italian studio Lazzarini Design Studio . 

The design takes inspiration from the more contemporary America’s Cup sailboats - specifically the Luna Rossa design- and would be the largest example of foiling technology installed on a yacht. Top speed would be an impressive 75 knots and the yacht would be constructed entirely in carbon. 

The foiling superyacht was designed to reach her impressive top speeds by “flying over the waterline.” Instead of being pushed by the wind, Plectrum is lifted above the water and moves via propulsion from three hydrogen-powered motors capable of 5,000hp each.

Her hydrofoil technology has been envisioned with an adjustable beam of up to 20 metres that can be reduced to 15 metres when the yacht is berthed or at anchor. The draught would be 6.5 metres.

Finished in a striking burnt orange shade, Plectrum’s exterior design is defined by a smooth, streamlined silhouette with flat arched sides that form the side decks and garage openings.

The yacht's living spaces are split across four decks, with the main body offering six guest cabins and an owner's suite. Preliminary renderings also boast a helipad located on the bow and a large beach club on the aft complete with a pool. There is amidships storage for tenders, plus a garage at the stern for a car. 

Past design inspiration has been said to include the US’s first hydrofoil ship USS Plainview, which was launched in 1965.

Lazzarini has a number of head-turning designs in its portfolio, including the 169 metre Sovrano and an 150m airship-style superyacht concept powered by helium gas .

I mega yacht sono imbarcazioni di lusso che hanno fatto la loro comparsa sul mercato negli anni ‘80. Il primo della storia è stato il panfilo Nabila, varato nel 1979 e di proprietà del petroliere Kashoggi.

La loro caratteristica, come suggerisce il nome, è quella di avere dimensioni che superano di molto gli standard degli yacht tradizionali.

Mediamente infatti le lunghezze di un super yacht si aggirano sui 40 metri ma si spingono anche molto oltre, non essendoci limiti alle loro dimensioni e stazza, che non siano quelli stabiliti dai desideri e dalle possibilità dei loro proprietari.

Al momento il più lungo in assoluto è l’Azzam che misura 180 metri ed è super anche per il prezzo (500 milioni di euro) e la quantità di carburante che può contenere (un milione di litri).

Che cosa sono i mega yacht?

I mega yacht sono yacht di 40 metri e più di lunghezza dotati di finiture e optional di lusso. Alcuni celebri mega yacht sono:

• l’Eclipse, lo yacht di Abramovich spodestato dall’Azzam per il primato nella lunghezza, ancora insuperabile per le due piattaforme di atterraggio per elicotteri e un sistema di difesa lancia-missili.
• Il Mirage, lo yacht invisibile costruito in vetro se guardato a 50 metri di distanza.
• Il Custom Line Navetta 37  di Ferretti Group, capace di raggiungere, a fronte delle grandi dimensioni, una velocità di 12 nodi.
• CRN Chopi Chopi, il più grande mega yacht costruito ad Ancona.

Altri super yacht vantano piscine e spiagge interne, e spazi da far invidia alle costruzioni di lusso realizzate sulla terraferma.

Nel settore dei luxury yacht, queste “navi private” rappresentano circa 1/4 del mercato complessivo. Una porzione destinata a crescere e che, prevedibilmente presto, raggiungerà il 50% del totale.

L’Italia è uno dei paesi dove la costruzione di queste imbarcazioni di lusso di grandi dimensioni sarà strategica per l’intero comparto nautico e l’interesse per queste realizzazioni straordinarie è molto alto.

Ma quali sono per un potenziale armatore le voci di spesa di cui tener conto? Proviamo a vederle tutte.

Costo mega yacht: la panoramica completa

Il costo di questi super yacht, come è facile immaginare, varia al variare delle loro dimensioni. Se uno yacht di lusso tra i 30 e i 40 metri come il  Navetta Custom Line 42  ha un prezzo di listino di 18 milioni di euro, i modelli da 100 metri, invece, sfiorano, e a volte superano, i 100 milioni di euro. Fino salire ai 500 milioni del già citato Azzam.

Si tratta di veri mostri del mare, come quelli realizzati da Blohm + Voss, o firmati da designer come Francesco Paszkowski e Lenard Nuvolari, che richiedono disponibilità pressoché illimitate se si considerano tutte le spese che comportano.

Voci importanti di spesa riguardano infatti la gestione del personale, stipendi extra compresi, e quella per il corredo e i complementi d’arredo che saranno inevitabilmente all’altezza degli standard qualitativi di design e pregio, che caratterizzano fin nei dettagli qualsiasi yacht o mega yacht di lusso.

Vediamo quali cifre raggiungono le spese più ordinarie legate alla manutenzione di un super yacht.

Gli  yacht in vendita  di certo non mancano anche quando si parla di mega yacht, ma potrebbe essere utile sapere che i prezzi scendono di molto quando si opta per l’usato.

La scelta di modelli disponibili è ampia anche in questo caso.

Mega yacht: quanto costa manutenerli

La spesa complessiva prevista è di circa il 10%  del valore di acquisto a cui sono da aggiungere i costi di alaggio, sosta ed equipaggio.

Sono da tenere in conto poi i costi di manutenzione ordinaria che proteggono da umidità, sole e sale, e quelli di manutenzione straordinaria che tengono conto di altri piccoli incidenti straordinari.

Indicativamente possiamo ipotizzare un costo di 12.000 euro per alaggio e varo e altri 10.000 per la manutenzione dei motori.

Per finire, inciderà sul totale delle spese anche l’acquisto degli accessori che garantiscono di migliorare lo stato di salute dello yacht.

Molto rilevanti sono anche i costi di ormeggio. La  marina più cara in assoluto è Capri , dove va conteggiata quotidianamente una spesa addirittura doppia a quella del  Port de Saint Tropez : 2585 euro al giorno per uno yacht di 40+ metri, in alta stagione. Alla capolista italiana seguono le  marine di Porto cervo  e  Portofino , dove comunque non si scende al di sotto dei 2000 euro.

Anche in questo caso i costi aumentano all’aumentare delle dimensioni, sempre però che l’ormeggio sia consentito.

Tra queste ricordiamo la  marina di Mirabello a La Spezia, la quale è sicuramente una delle marine più adatte per l’ormeggio dei megayacht – è stata scelta da Giorgio Armani per la sua M/Y Main.

In genere però, come già accennato, non tutte le marine consentono alle imbarcazioni di lusso di grandi dimensioni: e dai 70 metri di lunghezza in poi l’unica possibilità è levare l’àncora al largo.

• Another Russian billionaire is claiming ownership of the yacht and opposing attempts to sell it.

A Russian oligarch's megayacht is costing taxpayers almost $1 million a month after the government seized it, court filings say.

US officials say the $300-million Amadea is owned by Suleiman Kerimov , a sanctioned Russian billionaire. It has a helipad, a swimming pool, and a movie theater on board.

The 348-foot vessel was first seized by authorities in Fiji in April 2022. It's now docked in San Diego, but the government wants to sell it due to huge maintenance costs.

Last month, an assistant chief in the US Marshals Service said the Amadea was costing the government about $600,000 a month .

That's made up of $360,000 for crew salaries; $75,000 for fuel; and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food for the crew, and miscellaneous expenses.

But a Friday court filing seen by Business Insider says there are actually even more costs that bring the total monthly bill up to $922,000.

It costs $144,000 to insure the megayacht, and dry-docking fees of $178,000 a month, the filing says.

The legal battle over the Amadea involves another Russian billionaire, Eduard Khudainatov, who claims he, not Kerimov, is the owner of the yacht.

Lawyers for Khudainatov, who is not sanctioned, have objected to the government's attempts to sell the Amadea.

According to CNBC, which first reported on Friday's filing, Khudainatov has offered to reimburse the government for the $20 million it has already spent maintaining the yacht if it's returned to him.

However, as long as the government continues trying to sell the Amadea, he won't pay the costs, CNBC reported.

Russian oligarch's yacht costs U.S. taxpayers close to $1 million a month

A mega-yacht seized by U.S. authorities from a Russian oligarch is costing the government nearly $1 million a month to maintain, according to new court filings.

The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking permission to sell a 348-foot yacht called Amadea, which it seized in 2022, alleging that it was owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. The government said it wants to sell the $230 million yacht due to the “excessive costs” of maintenance and crew, which it said could total $922,000 a month.

“It is excessive for taxpayers to pay nearly a million dollars per month to maintain the Amadea when these expenses could be reduced to zero through [a] sale,” according to a court filing by U.S. prosecutors on Friday.

The monthly charges for Amadea, which is now docked in San Diego, California, include $600,000 per month in running costs: $360,000 for the crew; $75,000 for fuel; and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food and other expenses. They also include $144,000 in monthly pro-rata insurance costs and special charges including dry-docking fees, at $178,000, bringing the total to $922,000, according to the filings.

The battle over Amadea and the costs to the government highlight the financial and legal challenges of seizing and selling assets owned by Russian oligarchs after the country’s invasion of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last week that the European Union should use profits from more than $200 billion of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s war effort.

Her comments echoed government calls in the spring of 2022 to freeze the yachts, private jets and mansions of Russian billionaires in hopes of putting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and raising money for the war effort.

Yet, nearly two years later, the legal process for proving ownership of the Russian assets and selling them has proven to be far more time-consuming and costly. In London, Russian billionaire Eugene Shvidler has waged a court battle over his private jets that were impounded, and Sergei Naumenko has been appealing the detention of his superyacht Phi.

The battle over Amadea began in April 2022, when it was seized in Fiji at the request of the U.S. government, according to the court filings.

Though the U.S. alleges that the yacht is owned by Kerimov, who made his fortune in mining, attorneys for Eduard Khudainatov, an ex-Rosneft CEO who has not been sanctioned, say he owns the yacht, and have sought to take back possession of the vessel.

In court filings, Khudainatov’s attorneys have objected to the U.S. government’s efforts to sell the yacht, saying a rushed sale could lead to a distressed sale price and that the maintenance costs are minor relative to the potential sale value.

Khudainatov’s attorneys refuse to pay the ongoing maintenance costs as long as the government pursues a sale and forfeiture. However, they say their client will reimburse the U.S. government for the more than $20 million already spent to maintain the yacht if it’s returned to its proper owner.

In court papers, the government says Kerimov disguised his ownership of Amadea through a series of shell companies and other owners. They say emails between crew members show Kerimov “was the beneficial owner of the yacht, irrespective of the titleholder of the vessel.”

The emails show that Kerimov and his family ordered several interior improvements of the yacht, including a new pizza oven and spa, and that between 2021 and 2022, when the boat was seized, “there were no guest trips on the Amadea that did not include either Kerimov or his family members,” according to the court filings.

The government also says Kerimov has been trying to sell Amadea for years, so a sale would be in keeping with his intent.

“This is not a situation in which a court would be ordering sale of a precious heirloom that a claimant desperately wishes to keep for sentimental reasons,” the government said in filings.

Even if Amadea were sold quickly, the proceeds wouldn’t automatically go to the government. Under law, the money would be held while Khudainatov and the government continue their battle in court over the ownership and forfeiture.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

A wedding on a mega yacht ? Sounds about right for “You Got It” singer and songwriter Vedo and his CEO bride, Shanice , also a singer-songwriter. But long before they said “I do” in grand fashion on a holiday all about love, the two were meeting as young dreamers in 2011. They encountered one another at a music event and had a brief conversation, but didn’t end up exchanging numbers. That should have been it. But as fate would have it, they ran into each other again at another event a short time later, and took it as a sign from the universe that they needed to get to know each other better. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

“I knew Vedo was the one instantly,” Shanice tells ESSENCE. “He treated me like a lady at such a young age. I was very impressed. He stimulated me mentally. He was so gentle, respectful, and accepted me and my family although we aren’t perfect.”

Vedo wasn’t looking for his person at that time, but he knew he’d found her when he got to know Shanice.

“I honestly didn’t know what to look for in a person who could possibly be ‘the one.’ I just knew she treated me differently from any other woman,” he recalls fondly. “She was sweet but feisty. She was stern but would bend her rules for me. She loved family, she loved my family. She was an entrepreneur at a young age, so she had drive, goals, long term and short term. She was just an overall dope person. I knew a long time ago. She knew what she deserved and until I was able to provide that, I dared not. Now we are here.”

The crooner, a consummate performer who finished in the top 12 during Season 4 of The Voice (he was on Team Usher and recently flexed his talents with the legend during his NPR Tiny Desk Concert ), asked for Shanice’s hand in the only way he knows how — in front of an audience. He proposed at the grand opening of her beauty spa Solé Aesthetics in Atlanta.

“He got me good,” she says. “I was so caught up on planning the grand opening that it was so unexpected when he popped the question.”

From there, the couple planned the ultimate celebration, opting to tie the knot on the day of love, Feb. 14, 2024, on a mega yacht in Miami that they decked out in red and white florals and matching decor. The couple exchanged vows in front of some high-profile guests, all dressed in white, on the waters of Magic City. “We go all out for our birthdays, vacations, our friends, why not go all the way and do it big for our wedding day?” Shanice asks.

And with three outfit changes for the bride (and a major hair switch), a few big performances and 150 guests celebrating with them, “big” is the right word for their magical moment.

For the couple’s ceremony, they asked that guests not use it as an opportunity to be amateur photographers, and instead, be “fully present” for their special moment. It was an unplugged wedding but phones were allowed at the reception and right after the pair said “I do.”

A super cute detail for the couple’s big day was presenting seating arrangements through golden ribbon microphones. Seating info was found right under the head of the vintage mics.

Vedo certainly made a grand entrance for the ceremony…

…but he couldn’t beat his bride! All eyes were on Shanice as she made her way down the aisle.

No one was more touched by Shanice’s beautiful entrance than her husband-to-be. “She looked beautiful, she looked happy, she looked free, and she looked at ease,” he tells us. “Those are some of the feelings that I want her to feel forever.”

The ceremony was officiated by another talented singer, gospel great Smokie Norful.

The couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife, or Mr. and Mrs. McCoy, after saying “I do.”

The space where the dinner part of the reception was held within the Seafair was decked out in the color scheme of red and white (with some pink, too). “It was only right on Valentine’s Day. It represents romance, passion and fire, of which we exude them all,” Shanice says.

While outfit changes are common, it’s not as common to see a bride change their hairstyle on their big day. Call Shanice a trendsetter. “The hair was definitely a wow factor for everyone,” she says of heading into the reception post-ceremony and portraits with big curls after starting the day with a pixie-esque cut. “I love a good switch-up, and besides that, I absolutely love drama!”

To match the drama of her second hairstyle, Shanice and her hubby changed out of their ceremony garb and went with a red hot look, complete with shades, to party.

There were a few stars in attendance for Vedo and Shanice’s big day (including Toya Johnson-Rushing and her husband Red), including fellow crooner Eric Bellinger and his wife, La’Myia Good. Eric performed with Vedo later in the night.

It was only right that Vedo sing on his own wedding day. He specifically sang to his bride at the reeption.

Shanice is quite the performer herself. She proved that when she changed, for a third time, to put on a show for her husband, supported by backup dancers.

All were pleased with Shanice’s performance, none more than Vedo, who got a front-row seat to the display.

The ladies in red, and the bride in white, looked elegant against the night sky as they posed for portraits following the ceremony.

All of the very special people who provided extra special support to the bride and groom on their special day posed together ahead of the reception fun.

When it comes to their favorite moments from the day, for Vedo, it was “Me putting on that ring, saying my vows and making this union official under God.” For Shanice, it was also the ceremony. After a lot of planning and preparation, it was the official start to a new chapter in her life with Vedo. “The ceremony was on my mind the entire day. When it finally was done I felt so damn good,” she says. “I was ready to take on the rest of the night as a new wife!”
