The 10 best songs for your yachting playlist

Music is the ideal complement to the sound of the wind and the waves whilst sailing or motoring along. But what to listen to? Here is BOAT International 's pick of the 10 best tunes to add to your summer yachting playlist...

Lovely Day – Bill Withers

Kicking things off is the absurdly uplifting Lovely Day . Universally known for its summery groove and life-affirming choruses, the song is an exercise in positivity. The “it’s going to be a lovely day” sentiment certainly holds true when strolling the sun-kissed decks of a superyacht, with nothing to worry about except where your next Long Island Ice Tea is coming from. For those that didn’t know, the 18-second-long note towards the end of the song – “lovely daa-aay” – is the longest-held note in Pop history.

Reelin’ In The Years – Steely Dan

The riff-bending Reelin’ In The Years contains more hooks than most musicians come up with in their entire careers, let alone a single song. Steely Dan’s 1973 hit has a lot going for it, not least the ample opportunity for air-guitar (something best enjoyed a good two metres away from the water’s edge). There’s also something evocative about the reverb drenched solos, perfect for when you’re adventuring miles away from home.

He’s So Shy – The Pointer Sisters

This funk number is everything you could want from a nautical bop. The chorus leaps out at you from the stripped-back verses, and there’s even a synth solo to keep the head nodding. The Pointer Sisters’ “so shy” love interest might be a slight departure from the general perception of superyacht owners, but we’re sure this tune will have you losing your inhibitions on deck when it comes on.

Everywhere – Fleetwood Mac

Does anything trigger a nostalgia trip quicker and more efficiently than Lindsay Buckingham’s sampled Fairlight synthesiser at the start of Everywhere ? A few lines of that glistening backing track and bang, you’re back in the 80s. It might not be the band’s biggest hit, but it’s surely their most enduring, just because it’s so singable . The refrain “I want to be with you everywhere” can be hummed at your partner or superyacht interchangeably, so top marks for that.

What a Fool Believes – The Doobie Brothers

Contrary to their stage name, The Doobie Brothers were all actually rather well-behaved chaps. That said, the harmonies on the What a Fool Believes ’s chorus do have a somewhat transportive effect on the psyche. Even though it’s one of the few songs on this list in a minor key, it definitely won’t stop the party with its stomping rhythm and relentless groove.

Cool Cat – Queen

One of Queen’s lesser-known ditties, this 1982 banger sees the four-piece trade in their fuzzy tones and stadium-rocking vocals for something a bit more relaxed and soulful. If the rumours are true, legendary Queen guitarist Brian May declined to play on the studio version because he hated the ‘new sound’ the song represented. Well Brian, we’re afraid you’re on your own there. Cool Cat sways with playful assuredness and should have everyone on board strutting around with style.

Everybody’s Talkin’ – Harry Nilsson

Part of Midnight Cowboy ’s stunning soundtrack, Everybody’s Talkin’ describes someone’s desire to run away from the city to a more peaceful place. “Sailing on a summer breeze, skipping over the ocean like a stone,” Nilsson, who won a Grammy for this performance, sings. This perspective is one that drives so many to set sail, searching for an easier life among the waves and away from the urban humdrum.

Summer Breeze – The Isley Brothers

Nothing summons that high season excitement quite The Isley Brothers’ rendition of Summer Breeze . The song was originally released in 1972 by Seals & Crofts, but the Isley Brothers’ version two years later just shades it. The mesmerising harmonies that the group launch into, combined with that guitar solo in the tune’s final bars make Summer Breeze a must-have in any playlist worth it's salt.

It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere – Alan Jackson feat. Jimmy Buffet

Lethal in its brilliance, It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere ’s music video sees Alan Jackson strumming a six string on the back of a 24 metre Merritt Boat Works sportfisher named Hullbilly , before joining Jimmy Buffet (proud owner of 15 metre sailing yacht Drifter ) on land for some merriment.

Guilty – Barbara Streisand and Barry Gibb

In the first verse, the great Barbara urges the governing class to “make it a crime to be lonely or sad”. We’re all for that. Anyway, it’s quite difficult to be either of those things when you’re lazing on a foredeck sunpad with the ocean breeze gently rippling both margherita and hair. If you were wondering what happens when two of the 80s’ most recognisable voices come together, well, now you do. Pop magic happens.

How Music and Movies Make Yachting Better

When you think about being on a yacht, you probably imagine the sound of the waves and the sea breeze. But nowadays, being on a yacht is like being at a top-notch music festival or movie theater, but better, because you’re floating on the ocean! Yachts are getting decked out with the coolest entertainment tech. We’re talking about speakers that make you feel the bass in your bones, and screens that pop up for movie nights under the stars.

Yacht lovers want their trips to be unforgettable, filled with their favorite tunes and films. The technology has gotten so good that you can have a concert or a cinema right there on the deck.

Music Makes the Good Times Roll

Music is key. It can chill you out or get the party started. That’s why the newest yachts come with sound systems that turn the whole boat into a private concert. Imagine listening to your favorite song, crystal clear, as you watch the sunset. It’s about making every moment perfect.

Some yachts are so high-tech they’ve got systems designed by sound experts, so every note sounds just right, whether you’re sunbathing or inside taking a break from the sun.

Live Shows on the Water

And it’s not just about playing recorded music. Imagine having a live band playing just for you and your friends in the middle of the ocean. That’s becoming a thing too. Depending on the yacht, you could have a small acoustic set or a full-blown concert. It’s all about what you want, making your yacht trip a one-of-a-kind experience.

Yacht companies know people want these amazing entertainment options, so they’re offering music and movie setups that can be customized. It’s all about making your time on the yacht exactly how you dreamed it would be.

The Bottom Line

We at Fly Yachts get it. You want your yacht trip to be jam-packed with all your favorite songs, movies, and maybe even a live show. We’re all about making that happen, crafting trips that aren’t just about being on a boat, but about creating memories that last a lifetime.

Ten Yacht Rock Essentials for Your Private Cruise Playlist

yacht rock

Yacht rock is the official genre of the yacht life. This smooth, sweet style of music is all about the true essence of living life on the seas. If you are considering renting a luxury yacht charter from The Advantaged, you need the correct music to help you enjoy yourself to the fullest. Here are ten yacht essentials for your private charter cruise.

Summer Breeze – Seals & Croft

Always included on lists, “Summer Breeze” isn’t universally adored as a yacht rock classic. The creators of the genre argue it isn’t even a yacht rock song . To us, however, its smooth, mellow sound makes it impossible to leave out.

Anything with Michael McDonald

In the world of yacht rock, there is a Mount Rushmore, and front and center on that monument to all things yacht is Michael McDonald. His silky-smooth voice could make the yellow pages sound poetic. McDonald is a quintessential part of the genre and added a touch of honey to every group he touched, including Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. Two of our favorite Michael McDonald creations are his solo track “ I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near) ”, and “ What a Fool Believes ” by the Doobie Brothers.

Rosanna -Toto

Toto, like Michael McDonald, are royalty. With a host of staples of boat-living classics such as the ever-popular “Africa” and “Hold the Line”, it can be tough to pick the best of the bunch, but many consider “ Rosanna ” to be their quintessential yacht rock staple.

FM – Steely Dan

Steely Dan brought smooth faux-jazz to soft rock and created the perfect soundtrack for yacht living. While pretty much everything they composed should be thought of yacht rock, there are a few tracks that are head and shoulders above the rest. “ FM (No Static At All) ” is one of those tracks.

Biggest Part of Me – Ambrosia

Written with the help of – you guessed it, Michael McDonald – “ Biggest Part of Me ” is another can’t miss yacht rock classic. Ambrosia was one of many studio bands formed in the 70s, but like Steely Dan, they too found their niche in yacht rock.

Sailing – Christopher Cross

Perhaps no song is more identifiable with the genre of yacht rock than “ Sailing ”. Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1980 debut, and this track was his calling card.  The song, reaching number one on the charts, took “Song of the Year” at the Grammys. This song is so essentially yacht rock that VH1 named it the most “softsational soft rock song of all time.”

Escape (The Pina Colada Song) – Rupert Holmes

Ask anyone to name a song they consider yacht rock, and you might get a variety of different answers – especially if they aren’t familiar with the genre. A lot of them, however, will likely name “ The Pina Colada Song .”  “Escape” (as it is officially titled), is often maligned, but it’s catchy, and is the perfect addition to any yachting playlist.

Whenever I Call You Friend – Kenny Loggins & Stevie Nicks

One of Kenny Loggins’ biggest hits, “ Whenever I Call You Friend ”, is an unforgettable duet with Stevie Nicks. Originally written to be a collaboration with Michael McDonald, the king of yacht rock turned down the song, saying he didn’t get it. Turning to Grammy-winning artist Melissa Manchester, they finished writing the song, but couldn’t perform due to different recording contracts. So, Kenny turned to another friend – Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks. The result: yacht rock gold.

Take Me Home – Phil Collins

No list is complete without a controversial selection – so what better place to end? While many might not consider Phil Collins to be yacht rock per se , the creators of the genre have given his music their blessing . That said, of all the easy-going Phil Collins songs, our favorite has to be “ Take Me Home ”. Featuring a hypnotic beat and soothing and evocative lyrics, this is the perfect song for sailing off into the sunset.

The greatest yacht rock songs ever

By Tom Eames

Facebook share

We can picture it now: lounging on a swish boat as it bobs along the water, sipping cocktails and improving our tan. Oh, and it's the 1980s.

There's only one style of music that goes with this image: Yacht rock.

What is Yacht Rock?

Also known as the West Coast Sound or adult-oriented rock, it's a style of soft rock from between the late 1970s and early 1980s that featured elements of smooth soul, smooth jazz, R&B, funk, rock and disco.

  • The 40 greatest disco songs ever, ranked
  • The 10 greatest and smoothest ever sax solos, ranked

Although its name has been used in a negative way, to us it's an amazing genre that makes us feel like we're in an episode of Miami Vice wearing shoulder pads and massive sunglasses.

Here are the very best songs that could be placed in this genre:

Player - 'Baby Come Back'

luxury yacht music

Player - Baby Come Back

Not the reggae classic of the same name, this 1977 track was Player's biggest hit.

After Player disbanded, singer Peter Beckett joined Australia's Little River Band, and he also wrote 'Twist of Fate' for Olivia Newton-John and 'After All This Time' for Kenny Rogers.

Steely Dan - 'FM'

luxury yacht music

It's tough just choosing one Steely Dan song for this list, but we've gone for this banger.

Used as the theme tune for the 1978 movie of the same name, the song is jazz-rock track, though its lyrics took a disapproving look at the genre as a whole, which was in total contrast to the film's celebration of it. Still, sounds great guys!

Bobby Goldsboro - 'Summer (The First Time)'

luxury yacht music

Bobby Goldsboro - Summer (The First Time)

A bit of a questionable subject matter, this ballad was about a 17-year-old boy’s first sexual experience with a 31-year-old woman at the beach.

But using a repeating piano riff, 12-string guitar, and an orchestral string arrangement, this song just screams yacht rock and all that is great about it.

Kenny Loggins - 'Heart to Heart'

luxury yacht music

Kenny Loggins - Heart To Heart (Official Music Video)

If Michael McDonald is the king of yacht rock, then Kenny Loggins is his trusted advisor and heir to the throne.

This track was co-written with Michael, and also features him on backing vocals. The song is about how most relationships do not stand the test of time, yet some are able to do so.

Airplay - 'Nothing You Can Do About It'

luxury yacht music

Nothin' You Can Do About It

You might not remember US band Airplay, but they did have their moment on the yacht.

Consisting of David Foster (who also co-wrote the Kenny Loggins song above), Jay Graydon and the brilliantly-named Tommy Funderburk, this tune was a cover of a Manhattan Transfer song, and was a minor hit in 1981.

Boz Scaggs - 'Lowdown'

luxury yacht music

Boz Scaggs - Lowdown (Official Audio)

We've moved slightly into smooth jazz territory with this track, which is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

The song was co-written by David Paich, who would go on to form Toto along with the song's keyboardist David Paich, session bassist David Hungate, and drummer Jeff Porcaro.

Steve Winwood - 'Valerie'

luxury yacht music

Steve Winwood - Valerie (Official Video)

This song is probably as far as you can get into pop rock without totally leaving the yacht rock dock.

Legendary singer-songwriter Winwood recorded this gong about a man reminiscing about a lost love he hopes to find again someday.

Eric Prydz later sampled it in 2004 for the house number one track ‘Call on Me’, and presented it to Winwood, who was so impressed he re-recorded the vocals to better fit the track.

Toto - 'Rosanna'

luxury yacht music

Toto - Rosanna (Official HD Video)

We almost picked 'Africa' , but we reckon this tune just about pips it in the yacht rock game.

Written by David Paich, he has said that the song is based on numerous girls he had known.

As a joke, the band members initially played along with the common assumption that the song was based on actress Rosanna Arquette, who was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time and coincidentally had the same name.

Chicago - 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry'

luxury yacht music

Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry (Official Music Video)

Chicago began moving away from their horn-driven soft rock sound with their early 1980s output, including this synthesizer-filled power ballad.

  • The 10 greatest Chicago songs, ranked

The album version segued into a more traditional Chicago upbeat track titled ‘Get Away’, but most radio stations at the time opted to fade out the song before it kicked in. Three members of Toto played on the track. Those guys are yacht rock kings!

Michael Jackson - 'Human Nature'

luxury yacht music

Michael Jackson - Human Nature (Audio)

A few non-rock artists almost made this list ( George Michael 's 'Careless Whisper' and Spandau Ballet 's 'True' are almost examples, but not quite), yet a big chunk of Thriller heavily relied on the yacht rock sound.

Michael Jackson proved just how popular the genre could get with several songs on the album, but 'Human Nature' is the finest example.

The Doobie Brothers - 'What a Fool Believes'

luxury yacht music

The Doobie Brothers - What A Fool Believes (Official Music Video)

Possibly THE ultimate yacht rock song on the rock end of the spectrum, and it's that man Michael McDonald.

Written by McDonald and Kenny Loggins, this was one of the few non-disco hits in America in the first eight months of 1979.

The song tells the story of a man who is reunited with an old love interest and attempts to rekindle a romantic relationship with her before discovering that one never really existed.

Michael Jackson once claimed he contributed at least one backing track to the original recording, but was not credited for having done so. This was later denied by the band.

Christopher Cross - 'Sailing'

luxury yacht music

Christopher Cross - Sailing (Official Audio)

We're not putting this in here just because it's called 'Sailing', it's also one of the ultimate examples of the genre.

Christopher Cross reached number one in the US in 1980, and VH1 later named it the most "softsational soft rock" song of all time.

Don Henley - 'The Boys of Summer'

luxury yacht music

The Boys Of Summer DON HENLEY(1984) OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

Mike Campbell wrote the music to this track while working on Tom Petty’s Southern Accents album, but later gave it to Eagles singer Don Henley, who wrote the lyrics.

The song is about the passing of youth and entering middle age, and of a past relationship. It was covered twice in the early 2000s: as a trance track by DJ Sammy in 2002, and as a pop punk hit by The Ataris in 2003.

England Dan and John Cord Foley - 'I'd Really Love to See You Tonight'

luxury yacht music

England Dan & John Ford Coley - I'd Really Love To See You Tonight.avi

A big hit for this duo in 1976, it showcases the very best of the sock rock/AOR/yacht rock sound that the 1970s could offer.

Dan Seals is the younger brother of Jim Seals of Seals and Crofts fame. Which leads to...

Seals & Crofts - 'Summer Breeze'

luxury yacht music

Summer Breeze - Seals & Croft #1 Hit(1972)

Before The Isley Brothers recorded a slick cover, 'Summer Breeze' was an irresistible folk pop song by Seals & Crofts.

While mostly a folk song, its summer vibes and gorgeous melody make for a perfect yacht rock number.

Christopher Cross - 'Ride Like the Wind'

luxury yacht music

Ride Like The Wind Promo Video 1980 Christopher Cross

If Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins are in charge of the yacht rock ship, then Christopher Cross has to be captain, right? Cabin boy? Something anyway.

The singer was arguably the biggest success story of the relatively short-lived yacht rock era, and this one still sounds incredible.

Eagles - 'I Can't Tell You Why'

luxury yacht music

The eagles - I can't tell you why (AUDIO VINYL)

Many Eagles tunes could be classed as yacht rock, but we reckon their finest example comes from this track from their The Long Run album in 1979.

Don Henley described the song as "straight Al Green", and that Glenn Frey, an R&B fan, was responsible for the R&B feel of the song. Frey said to co-writer Timothy B Schmit: "You could sing like Smokey Robinson . Let’s not do a Richie Furay, Poco-sounding song. Let’s do an R&B song."

Gerry Rafferty - 'Baker Street'

luxury yacht music

Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street (Official Video)

Gerry Rafferty probably didn't realise he was creating one of the greatest yacht rock songs of all time when he wrote this, but boy did he.

  • The Story of... 'Baker Street'

With the right blend of rock and pop and the use of the iconic saxophone solo, you can't not call this yacht rock at its finest.

Michael McDonald - 'Sweet Freedom'

luxury yacht music

Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom (1986)

If you wanted to name the king of yacht rock, you'd have to pick Michael McDonald . He could sing the phone book and it would sound silky smooth.

Possibly his greatest solo tune, it was used in the movie  Running Scared , and its music video featured actors Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines.

Hall & Oates - 'I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)'

luxury yacht music

Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) (Official Video)

This duo knew how to make catchy hit after catchy hit. This R&B-tinged pop tune was co-written with Sara Allen (also the influence for their song 'Sara Smile').

  • Hall and Oates' 10 best songs, ranked

John Oates has said that the song is actually about the music business. "That song is really about not being pushed around by big labels, managers, and agents and being told what to do, and being true to yourself creatively."

Not only was the song sampled in De La Soul's 'Say No Go' and Simply Red 's 'Home', but Michael Jackson also admitted that he lifted the bass line for 'Billie Jean'!

“Vibee Yacht Club” – A Series Of Three, Week-Long Luxury & Music-Filled Superyacht Experiences In Croatia This Summer

luxury yacht music

Today, Vibee , the Live Nation-founded music-led destination experience company, announced the inaugural “ Vibee Yacht Club” – a series of three week-long superyacht voyages with unforgettable, curated experiences both on-board and on-shore. Each week promises a unique itinerary, adventuring across the magical Mediterranean Sea aboard an elite modern yacht where guests will enjoy gourmet dining, luxury amenities and VIP access to festivals, concerts and parties on the breathtaking beaches of Croatia.

“We’ve hit Cabo San Lucas with TiĂŤsto, cruised the Caribbean on EDSea, and rocked Atlantis in the Bahamas with Lionel Richie – and now with the launch of ‘Vibee Yacht Club’ – we’re bringing luxury music destination experiences to the Mediterranean for three uniquely curated weeks,”  said Vibee President Harvey Cohen. “Providing our guests with the opportunity to make unforgettable memories is Vibee’s mission and introducing superyachts within our offerings demonstrates how we continue to evolve and build unmatched experiences for people around the world.”

The first voyage in the three-week Vibee Yacht Club series kicks off on July 13-20, 2024 during the world-famous Ultra Europe electronic music festival in Split, Croatia. Dubbed “The Ultra Destination Experience,” the week will offer Vibee guests the option to choose between two distinct luxury yachts – the MY Lupus Mare or MS Prestige. In addition to chef-prepared meals at sea and lavish amenities, the trip will also include VIP access and roundtrip shuttle transportation to all three nights of Ultra Europe in Split commencing July 12; island-hopping adventures including Resistance parties in Hvar and Vis; Ultra Regatta in Brac; the all-day Ultra Beach afterparty at Carpe Diem, one of the world’s top 10 beach clubs; and more.

From July 28 through August 3, 2024, “Rock The Med” includes an enviable trip aboard the MY Lupus Mare across the entire Croatian Adriatic Sea, from Pula to Split. In addition to beach parties, bar-hopping and a beach day at Croatia’s famous Golden Horn, adventurers will receive VIP access to see music icon Lenny Kravitz perform live at the historic, 2,000-year-old Pula Arena – the only Roman colosseum to have all four side towers entirely preserved. Following the concert, Vibee will host an exclusive after-party featuring a performance by the sought-after DJ Ruckus.

Closing out the summer series is “Marafiki On The Adriatic,” hosted by nightlife impresario Ralf Madi from August 10-17, 2024. The trip will feature incredible music performances, exquisite dining, daily yoga sessions, and unmatched scenery from Split to Hvar onboard the MY Lupus Mare. Guests will explore the beauty of the Croatian islands with stops in Jelsa, Korcula, Dubrovnik and Mijet and have the opportunity to experience local cuisine from some of the region’s top-rated restaurants. “Marifiki On The Adriatic” guests will also have the option to extend the trip to attend the massive techno gathering, Sonus Festival, from August 18-22.

For all three Mediterranean holidays, Vibee Yacht Club travelers will enjoy a VIP welcome upon embarkation, including a sailaway toast, exclusive yacht-life amenities, breakfast and lunch served on board each day, priority shuttles, water taxis to beach parties, and more.

Concert promoter Live Nation is getting into the ultra-luxury cruise business — see what it'll be like on weeklong superyacht sailings starting at $3,000 a person

  • Live Nation's Vibee is getting into the ultra-luxury cruise business.
  • The music event curator says it'll charter two superyachts for three weeklong Croatia cruises this summer.
  • Like other vacation operators, Vibee says it's seen increasing demand for cruise and yacht-based trips.

Insider Today

Forget concerts — Live Nation wants music fans to start going on yacht vacations .

In 2023 and amid a boom in experiential travel , the entertainment company established Vibee, a music-based event curation arm. Less than a year later, Vibee has already executed affairs like a weekend Bahamas getaway headlined by singer Lionel Richie and a three-day Cabo San Lucas, Mexico party featuring DJ TiĂŤsto.

Now, it's moving off-land and to the high seas with its new segment: Vibee Yacht Club.

This summer, Vibee says it'll charter two superyachts for three weeklong Croatia itineraries that are set to be, of course, centered on music.

Vibee is capitalizing on yet another increasingly popular concept: themed cruises.

luxury yacht music

Themed cruises can vary vastly, from Star Trek-centered sailings to itineraries helmed by famous comedians. And as of late, many of these niche voyages have been selling out faster than ever before.

Themed cruise operator Sixthman's November 2023 hip-hop itinerary sold out in less than five days with no publicly announced lineup.

Similarly, Vibee's first cruise, the 2023 EDSea — a wordplay on the electronic dance music festival Electric Daisy Carnival, or EDC — was fully booked in three days, again with an undisclosed lineup.

Armed with EDSea’s success, Vibee wants to dive deeper into the cruise segment — this time with a luxurious spin.

luxury yacht music

"We see the desire for cruise and yacht experiences continuing to rise," Harvey Cohen, president of Vibee, told Business Insider, echoing sentiments of the cruise industry's booming demand.

And not just the mass-market players: Over the last year, luxury cruise lines have also seen a rise in interest.

In its fourth-quarter earnings report from February 2024, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said its two high-end brands, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas, had both seen "strong demand."

The latter had launched its latest $517.9 million luxury ship a few months prior, complete with caviar and a $6 million art collection.

Luxury cruises and superyachts aren’t known to be super-affordable.

luxury yacht music

Vibee says it's chartering the 141-foot-long Lupus Mare and nearly 161-foot-long Prestige for its three yacht sailings.

Vibee Yacht Club's cheapest option starts at $3,100 per person for a two-person cabin. Comparatively, EDSea's 2024 itinerary starts at $1,405 per person for a double occupancy interior cabin.

Yet, it could be a bargain for some superyacht fans: Weeklong charters for Lupus Mare start at about $71,000 a week, according to YachtCharterFleet.

Everything is better on a yacht. Champagne? Tastes better on a yacht. Cruises in general? Better on a yacht.

luxury yacht music

Going to an international music festival? Well, Vibee thinks it would be better to stay on a yacht than in a hotel.

On July 13, the first itinerary would start on day two of Ultra Europe, a popular three-day electronic dance music festival in Split, Croatia.

luxury yacht music

Following the event, the two yachts would sail to three Croatian islands before concluding in Hvar, Croatia. Along the way, the itinerary would include daytime swims, a sunset winery visit, and several parties (day and night).

Unsurprisingly, Vibee expects the itinerary to draw in younger travelers, specifically Gen Zers and millennials.

Lupus Mare is set to be chartered for two more itineraries: “Rock the Med” and “Marafiki on the Adriatic.”

luxury yacht music

A three-person cabin for both starts at $3,500 per person.

On Rock the Med, the week is set to begin with VIP tickets to a Lenny Kravitz show at the historic Pula Arena.

Afterward, it would sail to Croatian destinations with an itinerary that would include beach excursions and clubs.

Marafiki on the Adriatic isn’t centered on a single music event.

luxury yacht music

Instead, the roundtrip Split itinerary would feature on-board musical performances, daily yoga, "cultural outings," and, of course, beach clubs.

A bonus trip to Sonus Festival, a five-day rave, is an optional add-on.

Like a typical luxury cruise, travelers would have preorganized water taxis, chefs to prepare daily breakfasts and lunches, and all the yacht amenities.

luxury yacht music

The 20-cabin, 40-guest Prestige flexes indulgences like an indoor lounge, a hot tub, and a sundeck with plenty of beds.

Meanwhile, the 15-cabin, 34-guest Lupus Mare has comforts like a sauna and gym.

luxury yacht music

Travelers could wind down in the yacht's movie theater or hot tub. Or, they could take a slide into the water.

It’s no surprise Vibee is going the more sumptuous route with its itinerary-focused yacht concept.

luxury yacht music

" Revenge travel " might as well be known as "regular travel" at this point: People have continued to spend big on extravagant vacations, especially on luxury small cruise ships and trips planned around experiences and adventures.

Both are niches Vibee is trying to carve out for itself: Looking ahead, the new brand is already planning more music and sea-based vacations, Cohen told Business Insider.

‘Fancy cars and flashy yachts’: criminals living the high life targeted by Victoria’s unexplained wealth laws

Police minister says those who ‘swan around with ill-gotten gains’ will be pursued in reforms that flip onus of proof

  • Get our morning and afternoon news emails , free app or daily news podcast

Organised crime figures who splash out on yachts, penthouse suites and sex workers will be targeted by the Victorian government, under new laws that will force them to repay any wealth they cannot prove was lawfully acquired.

The state’s attorney general, Jaclyn Symes, and police minister, Anthony Carbines, on Tuesday announced they will introduce the Confiscation Amendment (Unexplained Wealth) Bill to parliament, in an effort to deprive criminals of the “use and enjoyment of their unexplained wealth”.

Symes said the new laws would flip the onus from police and prosecutors – who currently have to prove a direct link between a criminal and their wealth – to the offender.

Sign up for Guardian Australia’s free morning and afternoon email newsletters for your daily news roundup

“The barrier has been is that we’ve had to demonstrate that [wealth] is connected to criminal activity. The onus now will be flipped under this legislation, you will have to demonstrate that you obtained it by legal means,” she said.

“It’s very likely unless they won Tattslotto and they can show their winning ticket. They probably were doing illegal activities to obtain their wealth.”

Victoria’s attorney general Jaclyn Symes announced the reforms on Tuesday.

Carbines said the changes will also capture assets bought in a partner or relative’s name as well as gifts, “consumable wealth and wealth that has been gifted, disposed of or expended”.

“If you want to swan around with ill-gotten gains and wealth that doesn’t belong to you, that you’ve accrued illegally, police will be able to pursue you. They’ll be able to pursue your family and your partners,” he said.

“If organised crime bosses think that they can have the fancy cars, flashy yachts, spend their money on hotels and strippers, if you draw your attention to yourself, Victoria police will be after you.

“They will be able to use these laws to crack out and reclaim the stolen wealth that ill gotten gains, and it’s about continuing to make sure we put the pressure on organised crime.”

The new laws will allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to apply to a court for an order if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that a person’s total wealth exceeds their lawfully acquired wealth by at least $200,000.

If a person can’t satisfy a court that they have lawfully obtained their wealth, a court may order them to pay the state the value of anything they cannot prove was lawfully acquired.

The laws have been modelled on those currently in place in Western Australian, but are also similar to New South Wales’ laws, which were also bolstered in 2023 to allow police to seize and freeze wealth and assets without a specific offence.

The opposition leader, John Pesutto, questioned why it had taken so long for the government to introduce the legislation, though he said he supported the concept in principal.

“Frankly, after 10 years, you have to ask, what is it actually doing to crack down on organised crime?” he said.
