yacht and small craft surveyor

When investing in a yacht or small craft, it is wise to protect yourself and have the vessel you're interested in surveyed by a professional. I am a  SAMS® Accredited  Marine Surveyor  and owner of 41 North Marine located in Southern RI at Ram Point Marina in Wakefield. With 40-plus years of recreational boating experience and over 25 years of commercial maritime experience, including yacht captain/engineer, tow boat captain/salvage diver, technician, and delivery captain, I am more than familiar with boats and assessing/handling the issues that plague them. I have also achieved my ABYC Master Marine Technician Certification and have extensive experience working as a marine technician on all types of vessels. I have surveyed a vast array of power and sailboats from 13 feet to 107 feet, but no matter what type of boat or the size, when it comes to surveying, above all else, safety is of the utmost importance. That's not to say that issues that could potentially devalue or compromise the integrity of a vessel are not a priority; they are, but issues that cause a vessel to be unsafe must be brought to light more than anything else and are not as easy to detect and evaluate as one might think. The function of the marine surveyor is to reveal any issues that could potentially detract from the value and integrity of the vessel but, most importantly, any issues that would cause the vessel to be unsafe.

USCG 1600 ton Master

(817) 688-4673 - [email protected]

Yacht and small craft surveys - Boat Inspections - C&V - Dam

Purchasing a boat, boat - break out another thousand.

Hire us to professionally inspect, evaluate and appraise it before you make that purchase.  Located in North Texas.

We specialize in pre-purchase surveys, damage surveys and appraisals of yachts and boats located anywhere in Texas or Oklahoma including the DFW metroplex, Fort Worth, Dallas, Lake Texoma, Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Ray Hubbard, Lake Grapevine,  Lake Lewisville, Lake Travis, Freeport, Port Aransas, Galveston, Clear Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and will even go as far as Florida on a case by case basis.

We travel anywhere, so don't be afraid to pick up the phone and give us a call for a free quote!

It doesn't have to be that way! By hiring Southern Marine Surveying to look at the boat first, we can save you the headache and trouble of purchasing a bad vessel.

Take a look at the Blog page on this website to get an idea of what we look for when we survey a boat. By hiring me, I will  look at these things, and many more, to help protect you from buying a  potential headache.

Qualifications

Capt. John Seckman is a graduate of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy and former member of the Corps of Cadets. After graduating with a degree in Marine Transportation and a USCG 3rd Mate license in 2007, he worked full time offshore on commercial ships as a licensed mariner. He now resides with his family in Pottsboro Texas and is a full time Yacht & Small Craft surveyor.

  • Texas A&M Graduate - BS Marine Transportation
  • SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor
  • USCG Licensed 1600 ton Master & 2nd Mate Unlimited
  • 8+ years of surveying experience
  • 10+ years of actual offshore experience operating vessels from 80-400 ft' all over the world as a USCG licensed mate and master mariner
  • 25+ years of overall boating experience

Examples of what we look for

Rotten transom, broken bilge pumps.

A rotten transom is no good! This can cost you thousands to repair, and  often times it's not even worth doing if the boat isn't worth it. Hire  me to find this before you buy that boat!

Un-secured bilge pump. What do you think happens when water starts  rising in the bilge and the pump isn't secured? NOTHING GOOD! Hire me to  find these kinds of things before it becomes an emergency.

Rotten Stringers

Something like this would cost you thousands to repair and can be very hard to detect. By hiring us we find the problem for you, thus giving you the knowledge to make an informed purchase.

Cracked Hoses

Delaminated fibrglass.

A cracked raw-water hose has the potential to sink your boat. By hiring a surveyor you can avoid a potential disaster.

Thru-Hull Fittings

Thru-hull fittings are one of the most critical components of your vessel, and could potentially sink your boat if not properly maintained and repaired.

Delaminated fiberglass isn't always as obvious as this, by hiring us to survey your boat we are sure to find any hidden delamination on your boat.

Moscow takes a small step into the bike-share business

June 2nd, 2013 at 6:10 AM EDT

Moscow's traffic is so notoriously bad that bikes are a good idea. Surviving when the traffic's humming is another matter.

Last week, Moscow installed, throughout its center, thirty stations containing a total of two hundred and twenty red city bikes….the system resembles the Citi Bike program launched this week in New York. The same basic rules and conditions, as well as general urban-planning principles, are at work, too; Moscow’s D.O.T. worked with its counterparts in New York, London, and Copenhagen as it developed its program. But in the Russian capital, bike sharing may not be as much an immediate step forward for commuting—the program is starting extremely small, both in terms of bikes and miles of bike lanes—as it is a small, concrete triumph for grassroots political activism.

“It’s not easy to ride a bike in Moscow,” cautioned Alexey Mityaev, the floppy-haired, jeans-wearing twenty-seven-year-old adviser to the head of the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development .

Marketing in Russia by UK businesses: lessons from a survey of trade missioners to Moscow

  • References BETA
  • Recommended
  • Add to Folder

This paper explores and analyses the findings from a survey of UK participants in a trade mission to Moscow, with reference to relevant academic literature. The focus is on their experience of doing business in transition economy (TE) country‐markets (including Russia itself); their perceptions of Russian market opportunities and risks; their main sources of information and advice; and their strategies for Russian market entry and development. The findings suggest businesses with experience of TEs and Russia may be best placed to succeed in the Russian market, provided that they draw fully on the resultant lessons. Newcomers to the Russian market can maximise their chances of success by seeking out good information and advice, forging good contacts with Russian businesses, and by adopting a well‐structured, but flexible approach to their marketing strategies. Official support agencies can help UK businesses to succeed in Russia by maximising the quantity and quality of the support, information and advice that they provide.
