One of the oldest family-owned superyacht builders in Italy, Codecasa Shipyards builds steel and aluminium yachts from 30 to 70 meters in length in Viareggio.

Codecasa Shipyards’ roots extend all the way back to 1825, when Giovanni Battista Codecasa became a shipwright in Viareggio, one of Italy’s premier maritime centres. In 1902, the Codecasa family established its own shipyard in the area. The shipyard produced many sailing boats, fishing boats and military vessels, adding luxury motor yachts to its offerings in 1973, when Fulvio Codecasa joined the family business. He is still at the helm today.

The 1970s and ’80s were an era of expansion for Codecasa, which built the new Cantieri Navali Ugo Codecasa in 1977, converted the original facility to Codecasa Due in 1982, and opened another new yard, Codecasa Tre, in 1987. As the yachts it produced continued to grow, so did Codecasa Shipyards, adding more production space in Pisa in 2011.

Notable Yachts

In 2004, Fulvio Codecasa built a yacht, a sleek, 34.6-metre open motor yacht he named Maria Carla after his wife, intending to make it his family boat, but like many shipyard owners, sold it soon after. So, in 2005, he launched another Maria Carla , this time painting her cornflower blue. The two yachts were so successful that they spawned a series, the Codecasa 35s.

The shipyard’s ability to build fast, custom semi-displacement superyachts was proven once again by the launch of the 50-metre Framura 3 in 2013. Powered by triple MTU 16V 2000 M94 diesel engines mated to water jet drives, she has a top speed of 28 knots.

When tradition and know-how combine with insight and creative virtuosity, a one-of-a-kind creative explosion occurs which breaks the mould: evolution becomes revolution and transformation.The CODECASA JET 2020 is certainly an unexpected innovative jump which amazes and surprises with her aerial lines and with the style evolution developed by Codecasa Shipyards, which are launching her on the market, aiming to set a new trend in the industry.

Who said that sea and sky can just meet on the horizon?

With Codecasa Shipyards, water and air meet in the project of the new CODECASA JET 2020, of 70 meters of length , which transfers on a Yacht some stylistic features borrowed from the aviation. The new project, born from Mr Fulvio Codecasa’s insight and hand, breaks the mould of the typical lines of the maritime tradition as well as of the Yachts built by the Viareggio Yard, among which it stands like a unique exemplar , meant to set a trend. From a stylistic point of view, the CODECASA JET 2020 was inspired by the typical aviation lines , which are transposed in the nautical sector. The result is something that has never been seen before on the sea. The lines are clean and minimal, the exterior and interior spaces are huge.

The Yacht forward section, featured by a solid and rounded shape recalling the cockpit of an aircraft which opens like the bow of a Cargo to give access to the mooring area, is wisely lightened by the central body, a kind of fuselage with a Sun Deck of a remarkable size (the preliminary project states a total length of approximately 20.00 meters and a width of approximately 10.00 meters). The latter is provided with all comforts and facilities required to live the sea in total relax, such as a recessed swimming pool of 6.00 meters x 2.00 meters with large sunbathing mattresses and a covered Gymnasium .

The Sun Deck extends until the aft section of the Yacht, which develops vertically in a solid shape, recalling the tail of an aircraft. There, the Beach Club, at the sea level, is served by a lift and connected to a Hallway and a Skylounge , with large glass windows and 3.00 meters height, accommodating the Salon and the main Dining room, at the Sun Deck level.

The Main Deck bow area is completely devoted to the Owner’s Suite , while the Guests are accommodated in the four sumptuous Cabins in the Lower Deck , the forward area of which is taken by the Crew quarters. The pilothouse, then, located on the Bridge Deck is comfortably served by another lift connecting the three Decks and is directly adjoined, through a corridor, to the Captain’s Cabin.

In a continuous suspension and balance game between the waves and the clouds, the Yacht is provided with a helipad for a helicopter of medium/large size astern and with a double tender area on the sides amidships, with air inlets recalling a Jet engine.

From the technical equipment point of view, the new CODECASA JET 2020, which is meant to become the flagship of Codecasa Shipyards , is still being finalized. The building most probably will begin in the first half of the year 2020.

Same as the other Yachts belonging to the Codecasa Shipyards production, this Yacht features the renowned and high quality standards , which made the Yard famous all over the world. Additionally, she is provided with the newest technical equipment available on the market, such as the radar antennas, which will be installed inside carbon fiber domes , in the typical style of the AWACS airplanes.

To conclude, the Yacht will be certified by the most important international Classification Societies and Flag Authorities, such as the Lloyd’s Register and the MCA , to ensure that the discovery of new horizons is always done in utmost safety conditions .

Codecasa Yachts for Sale

Codecasa is a luxury yacht builder based in Viareggio, Italy. The shipyard was established back in 1825 by the shipwright Giovanni Battista Codecasa, from whom the yard takes its name. The Codecasa brand is one of the oldest family-owned shipyards in Italy and is known all over the world for its steel and aluminium motor yachts of between 98 and 230 feet (30 – 70m) in length. Overseeing the construction process personally, Fulvio Codecasa believes a direct relationship with the client to be the most important aspect of a yacht’s successful build, closely followed by a meticulous eye for detail.Codecasa’s highly qualified workforce share Fulvio’s great passion and commitment, and the resulting yachts are testament to their dedication and craftsmanship. The codecasa shipyard itself has benefitted from continuous evolution and expansion. It began life as a small workshop for sailboats before it became the world-renowned yard that it is today. The Codecasa Shipyards Group comprises Ugo Codecasa SpA, Codecasa Tre SpA and Codecasa Due SpA.

History of Codecasa Yachts

The Codecasa Shipyard was established in 1825 by the shipwright Giovanni Battista Codecasa, from whom the yard takes its name. The yard was a family business, passed between generations.

In 1946, with the construction of more than 50 sailing ships to his name, Giovann Battista Codecasa (heir of Giovanni) retired and handed the company to his two sons, Ugo and Sandro. Family values and an inherent Italian flair for style and creativity lie at the core of this company and the Codecasa Shipyard is still run by an heir of the original founder, Fulvio Codecasa (son of Ugo). Fulvio has run the company for over 40 years now, supported by a versatile management team which includes his two daughters and their husbands.

The Codecasa Shipyard has been building luxury motor yachts, constructed in aluminum, since 2010. The most recent superyacht to be completed by the shipyard is the 213-foot (65m) REGINA D’ITALIA. Codecasa were responsible for both her naval architecture and exterior styling, and the interior design was created by M2Atelier.

Yachts built by the Codecasa Shipyard have received many awards, including accolades from RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects), Boat International and the World Yachts Trophies.

The Codecasa Ugo and Codecasa Tre shipyards are located in the new harbour of Viareggio, 20 minutes drive from Pisa International Airport. Both sites extend themselves over an identical area of more than 75,000sq.ft (7,000sq.m), 6,000 of which are under permanent cover. At these sites, Codecasa builds boats of 131 feet (40m) up to 295 feet (90m) in steel and/or aluminum.

The Codecasa Due shipyard builds steel/aluminum or entirely aluminum motor yachts of up to 115 feet (35m), and it is located in Darsena Toscana; one of the most ancient Viareggio harbor docks. This site also has facilities for the repair and refit motor and sailing yachts up to 130 feet (40m). Here, Codecasa also build “all weather” rescue boats for the Italian Coast Guard. DR11 is another Codecasa facility and is located in the new Viareggio harbor. This site is devoted to the construction of all-aluminum sports boats, from 115 feet (35m) up to 130 feet (40m). The most recent production site held by the Codecasa Shipyards Group is a new facility which commenced build in 2011 on the Navicelli Dock in Pisa. Here, four identical sheds (26,900 sq.ft / 2,500sq.m each) facilitate the build of hulls and superstructures up to 861 feet (80m) in length.

Codecasa’s custom superyachts are built and brought to life with meticulous care and dedication.

The Codecasa Fleet

The shipyard has a remarkable and diverse portfolio, and is able to offer a wide range of yachts built to the highest standards of quality, technical innovation, reliability and design. It was only within the last 10 years that Codecasa added aluminum-hulled yachts to its product offering, with a range of speedy vessels between 115 and 165 feet (35 – 50m), and these have already proved extremely popular.

Codecasa have built motor yachts in aluminum and steel, and can refit both motor and sailing yachts. Northrop & Johnson can advise on the acquisition of a yacht constructed in either material, and discuss the associated benefits of each.

Whether the design is modern, classic or minimalist every Codecasa yacht is unique. The interior furniture is carefully designed and built to meet with the buyer’s exacting requirements and taste, and only the highest quality finishes and technical standards are used.

Notable yachts in the Codecasa stable include 213-foot (65m) DOUBLE DOWN, and the 2019-launched DRAGOLUNA which is 141 feet (43m).

The Codecasa brand can boast many famous clients, with numerous icons of industry entrusting the shipyard with the creation of their most valuable assets. The list includes Egyptian businessman Mohammed Al-Fayed, media mogul Jim Gabbert and fashion designer Giorgio Armani.

CODECASA Yachts – Operating Since 1825

Codecasa Shipyards is one of the oldest family-run shipbuilders, tapping into almost 200 years of shipbuilding experience and prowess. The luxury builds that emerge from Codecasa define Italian luxury on the water.

The yard specializes in yachts created from steel and aluminum. The 30m to 70m vessels are launched from their shipyard in Viareggio.

CODECASA HISTORY

Codecasa’s long history in shipbuilding dates back to 1825 in Viareggio when Giovanni Battista Codecasa became a shipwright. Viareggio was, and is, one of Italy’s major maritime centers.

After working in the shipbuilding industry for several years, the Codecasa’s started their own shipyard in the area in 1902.

 Sailing boats, fishing boats, and military boats were just a few of the vessels produced by the family-run business.

In the 1920s, Giovan Battista Codecasa, popularly known as Tistino and the descendant of Giovvani, undertook a massive expansion of the company.

He took over from his father, Antonio, who was only 27 at the time of establishing the shipyard. 

The Great Depression hit, but the investment Tistino had made sure the company survived the difficult times.

The shipyard showed its ability to adapt to the times and shifted production from sail and wood to power and aluminum.

Tistino’s sons, Ugo and Sandro, operated the shipbuilding company, restructuring production into small units that saw them becoming Italy’s pioneers in the steel shipbuilding industry.

The brothers were also responsible for exploiting the lucrative pleasure yacht market. 

Fulvio Codecasa, Ugo’s son, took over Codecasa in 1973 after his father’s death and continues to operate the company today.

In the following 15 years, he scaled the production of custom luxury yachts and created the three Codecasa shipyards still active today. 

Codecasa exploded in the 70s and 80s as they launched the new Cantieri Navali Ugo Codecasa in 1977. In 1982, they converted the original facility to Codecasa Due and opened another yard, Codecasa Tre 1987.

The yachts that Codecasa continued building and making larger required more production space.

And in 2011, Codecasa Shipyards started a new facility in Pisa. Fulvio is supported in the company’s management by his two daughters and their husbands. 

CODECASA NOTABLE LAUNCHES

Codecasa is known for its distinctive Italian style and has launched several notable vessels throughout the years. 

The sleek 34.6m open motor yacht, which Fulvio named after his wife MARIA CARLA, is one of the most notable yachts the shipyard launched in 2004.

Codecasa built the MAIN Yacht for Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani in 2008. The 65m yacht is one of the largest yachts built in Italy and was largely designed by Armani himself.

Codecasa yachts are still revered as premium examples of fine Italian living on the water after almost 200 years of shipbuilding prowess.
