The largest boat show in the world is the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), held annually in the state of Florida, US. With more than 1,300 boats and exhibitions spanning more than 100 acres, it is easily the world’s largest yacht show. The yacht show 2024 spans five days and typically welcomes more than 100,000 visitors from across the globe. For yachting enthusiasts and yacht service providers, it is without question the show to be at. Relevance Yacht’s team of yacht marketing experts regularly attends the show, taking the opportunity to learn about the latest yacht trends and meet with our clients..

What are the top yacht trends 2024?

Top yacht trends for 2024 include a growth in expedition vessels, a boom in charters and new-build yachts, greener yachting solutions, new technology and emerging markets, and changing demographics, including a younger yachting clientele.

  • The growth of expedition vessels is driven by yacht owners and charterers wishing to explore the world’s most remote regions. Younger yachting enthusiasts are particularly keen on exploring off the beaten path, seeking more immersive yachting adventures that require an adventure yacht.
  • A boom in charters and new builds, driven by a general increase and interest in the yachting industry. According to Boat International, there were more than 1,200 superyacht projects on the global order books in 2023, a rise of 17.5% compared to previous years. This growth is expected to continue this year and beyond.
  • A desire to enjoy an experiential yachting experience with custom and highly unique experiences.
  • Greener yachting solutions, including hybrid and electric yachts and sustainable onboard practices. This trend is front-and-centre at the world’s leading yacht shows in 2024, with many boasting dedicated sustainability exhibitions.
  • New technology is changing the yachting industry and will be a key yacht trend in 2024. Smart yachts are becoming the norm, increasing efficiency and onboard experiences. The role of AI is increasing in the yachting industry, and VR is also gaining momentum.
  • Emerging markets in 2024 will see a shift in the yachting industry, driven by wealth changes and the global UHNW population. While North America and Europe remain the world’s largest yacht consumers, Asia has now overtaken Europe as the second-largest UHNW region, and by 2025 Asia-Pacific will boast almost a quarter of the global population of UHNWIs. Due to this shift in wealth, key yacht industry players are expanding to Asia. You can learn more about the latest UHNW demographics in Relevance’s UHNW whitepaper .
  • The Gen Z influence will continue to increase in 2024 as younger clients enter the yachting industry, with the average age of superyacht owners now predicted to be between 35 and 45.

9 Must-See Yachts Debuting at the Miami International Boat Show

From a $355-million gigayacht, the largest-ever at a north american show, to a record-breaking electric runabout, this year's mibs has something for every mariner..

The Miami International Boat Show

Five days, six separate locations and more than 1,000 boats of all shapes and sizes on display—the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show is on track to live up to its claim of being the largest boat and yacht show in the world. The show this year will have more available products, largely because the red-hot Covid market from last year has cooled.

“The manufacturers have caught up with product,” Andrew Doole, president of the US Boat Shows for Informa, told Robb Report . “As a result, we’ll see many new boats making their debuts in the convention center and also exceptional superyachts at Island Gardens.”

The show will kick off next Wednesday for its five-day run. Attendance at another recent Informa boat show was higher than last year, says Doole, giving him optimism that Miami will also outperform 2022.

Here are six newcomers, and two gigayachts new to the brokerage market, that promise to be showstoppers.

Lürssen ‘Ahpo’

biggest yacht shows

Lürssen’s 378-foot Ahpo will be the largest gigayacht ever at any North American boat show. Delivered to its owner last year, but now up for sale for $355 million, the yacht has a wonderland interior that includes Asian-influenced designs, including silk wallpaper, hand embroidery and elaborate inlays of flying flamingoes, ginkgo leaves and red maple trees. Even the onboard IMAX Dolby cinema has twinkling LED stars in the ceiling. Designer Nuvolari Lenard also created a dedicated space catering to the multigenerational family, with a split-level suite for the owners, adjoining cabins for their children and parents and total accommodations for up to 16 guests. The mosaic-tiled spa sits at the heart of its outstanding wellness area, but also the yacht also has four pools of various sizes and a standout beach club. It will be moored in the Island Gardens marina.

Lürssen ‘Kismet’

biggest yacht shows

Another superstar of this year’s Miami boat show is the spectacular 312-foot Lürssen-built megayacht, Kismet . Owned by Pakistani-American billionaire and sports lover Shahid Khan – he owns both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Britain’s Fulham soccer club – the yacht will be open for tours to a highly select few at the show’s SuperYacht Miami location. With a brand-new Lürssen, currently codenamed Project JAG and designed by Nuvolari Lenard, due to be completed for Mr. Khan later this year, Kismet is reportedly up for grabs for an eye-watering $181 million.

Lürssen Marguerite

biggest yacht shows

Delivered in 2004, the 200-foot Marguerite (ex. Avanti, Aurora, Phoenix) was designed by Andrew Winch, with a classic interior and art-deco interior by Winch and Dawn Moffitt Design Inc. The superyacht, built by German yard Lürssen, was designed as a true oceangoing vessel, having the ability to be self-sufficient for 30 days. Beyond that, the owners also mandated that it be comfortable in all sea states. It’s listed for $48 million.

Absolute 52 Fly

biggest yacht shows

In urban slang, the word Fly tends to mean cool, sexy, smart or stylish. That kind of describes to a tee Italian builder Absolute Yachts’ brand new 52 Fly flybridge cruiser making its world premiere in the Magic City. With its extensive hull and superstructure glazing—there’s almost as much glass as fiberglass—the interior spaces are flooded with light. And talking of interior, this new 52—bow to stern it’s actually 54 feet—shakes things up by putting its huge master suite in the bow with the VIP amidships. Power comes from a pair of 590 hp Volvo D8 diesels.

Tiara EX 60

biggest yacht shows

Holland, Michigan-based Tiara Yachts just might have a new motto: “Go big, or go home”. At the Miami show they’re pulling the wraps off a brand new flagship—the 60-foot EX 60—which is the biggest, most luxurious Tiara to date. And with a sticker that starts at around $3.7 million, it’s also the priciest. But this newest EX has a lot to offer, including its major focus on outdoor space. If that stern cockpit wasn’t wide enough at 16 feet 11 inches, power-lowering side terraces expand the area to an impressive 20 feet six inches. Power is provided by twin 1350 Volvo D13 diesels that give an impressive 46 mph top speed.

Grady-White 281 Coastal Explorer

biggest yacht shows

When fishing boat powerhouse Grady-White unveils a new boat, anglers the world over pay attention. For the Miami show, the 64-year-old Greenville, NC builder is unveiling its brand new 28-foot 281 Coastal Explorer center console. Designed for both inshore skinny waters as well as offshore swells, the 281 features Grady’s proven SeaV2 wave-cleaving deep-vee hull design. Fisherman-friendly features include a battle-ready casting deck in the bow with low gunwales, and an electric fold-down terrace on the portside of the helm for hauling in that giant grouper. Standard power is a single 425 hp Yamaha outboard, with the option of twin 300s.

biggest yacht shows

Call it a true multi-national. Hylas Yachts’ new M49 is being built in Taiwan from a design by a New Zealand studio, to compete in the booming market for New England-style Down East cruisers. Big brother to the highly-successful Hylas M44, this salty 48-footer blends speedy performance—as in a 36 mph top speed—with exceptional rough-weather, offshore capability. Inside, the M49 features a comfy saloon under that big-windowed hardtop, with a spacious open rear “lounge” for entertaining. Trusty 370 hp Yanmar diesels do the powering. Hylas had hoped to debut the M49 two years ago, but Covid stalled the plan. Now, after a few improvements, it’s finally getting its show premiere.

Voltari 260

biggest yacht shows

Think of it as proving a point. Typically, this new, Canadian-built, all-electric Voltari 260, with its high-torque, 700 hp motor, can slice through waves at a feisty 60 mph. But to set a record for the longest overseas distance for an electric “vehicle” completed on a single charge, the $450,000 Voltari had to dial things back. To a more leisurely 5 mph. That is how this stealthy-looking, carbon-fiber runabout recently ran from Key Largo, Florida across the turbulent Gulf Stream to Bimini in the Bahamas—91 miles door to door—in under 20 hours. It’ll be back in full performance mode for its Miami show debut as a poster child for electromobility on the water.

Leopard 40PC

biggest yacht shows

South Africa’s Leopard Catamarans has a hard-to-resist “try before you buy” offer on its brand new Leopard 40PC power cat that’s making its global debut in Miami. Thanks to close ties with The Moorings charter company, potential buyers can simply rent one, for a week, maybe two, maybe longer. And it should be a blast. With the option of twin 370 hp diesels, the 40PC—or Moorings 403 PC as the charter version is called—can hit a top speed of 23 mph. This new kid brother to Leopard’s bigger 46 PC and 53 PC models has space for six in three cabins and the largest flybridge ever seen on a 40-foot power cat.

WATCH: The 2021 Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Lineup

By Jenna Mehdi

With an average vessel length of 54m, the Monaco Yacht Show is the most renowned and elite celebration of large superyachts in the yachting calendar. In an exclusive new video produced by Superyachts.com, we give viewers a glimpse of the exceptional lineup they can expect to see grace the dockside of Port Hercules this year.

With just under two weeks to go before the yachting industry and the world super-rich make their way to the Principality of Monaco, anticipation has never been higher. And with some 80 superyachts exhibiting available for sale or charter, as well as 32 yachts enjoying their world premiere at the show, this year’s event promises to more than meet the hype.

The largest superyacht at the show, confirmed just this week, will be Benetti’s giga yacht flagship 108m IJE. Launched in 2019, IJE is the largest of Benetti’s three giga yachts, and features a timeless exterior by British studio Redman Whiteley Dixon. Also in attendance will be the iconic Lurssen mega yacht KISMET, exhibited by Moran Yacht & Ship, who will also be showcasing 74m Amels yacht PLVS VLTRA.

German shipyard Nobiskrug, now part of the Tennor Group, will showcase its award-winning hybrid superyacht ARTEFACT. Another example of exceptional superyacht sustainability will be showcased by Feadship, with 94m VIVA. Brokerage house Burgess will arrive in full force with a spectacular fleet including the likes of 92m TATOOSH, 86m C2, both for sale, as well as charter yachts 85m VICTORIOUS and 61m CLOUD 9. SilverYachts’ 85m BOLD will impress with her formidable looks, alongside naval-inspired 71m Lurssen superyacht SKAT. More classically elegant appearances will be made by Rossinavi’s new 80m POLARIS, or 72m Turquoise Yachts’ QUANTUM OF SOLACE. The latter is listed for sale with YPI, alongside the 52m Palmer Johnson yacht DB9.

Also on display will be Benetti’s new launch 65m ZAZOU, and another Benetti - 63m 11.11 - will be displayed by Y.CO (for sale and charter). Amels and Damen Yachting will showcase two separate branches of their capabilities with the sleek Amels 188 Volpini II and the YS 5009 shadow vessel TIME OFF. LA MASQUERADE, 55m Amels superyacht available for sale, will be exhibited by Cecil Wright & Partners. Other notable attendees include 49m Columbus Yachts’ K2, 80m Bilgin Yachts’ TATIANA - the largest superyacht built in Turkey - and 55m Heesen Yachts’ MOSKITO. Ocean Independence will exhibit 48m classic CRN yacht AZZURRA II, while SuperyachtsMonaco presents 50m Zepter Yachts’ JOYME.

This year’s edition will also feature a dedicated sailing yacht section, where visitors can admire exceptional sailing yachts including the likes of 33m Vitters’ RIBELLE, 45m Baltic Yachts’ PATH and 30m MORGANA.

The 23 Best Annual Boat Shows by Month and Location

If you are a boat enthusiast and haven’t been to a boat show in a while, you are certainly missing out. Check out your favorite boat brands in person, and meet with fellow boat lovers and industry experts all in one place.

This article lists the 23 best annual boat shows by month and location so you can make your arrangements beforehand. Learn from the experts and take your hobby to the next level.

Why are Boat Shows Popular? | boat show calendar

Boat shows are popular since they allow the general public to learn and understand the industry better and appreciate and adopt the boating lifestyle. Boat shows are an industry itself, with different international organizations focused on managing and staging boat shows annually.

They are held in all 50 states and throughout the globe in various countries. The season generally starts in October and continues till March. Most small and regional shows are held at marinas or inside convention centers, which makes them easy to browse.

What to do at a boat show?

Boats for sale are, without a doubt, the main attraction of a boat show , but there’s so much more you can do while attending one. From trying new foods to indulging in different water activities, a boat show has a lot to offer.

  • Bring a camera or a notebook to record notes along with information on different boat sellers, and be sure to hand them your business card. This will help you solidify your network.
  • By interacting with the dealers, check out brand-new deals and the latest boating technology.
  • Browse through the shops and take home a souvenir or two.
  • Get “hands-on” knowledge regarding a boat or a boating accessory by attending a seminar or workshop to see their inner workings.
  • Indulge in some delectable foods from the stalls.
  • Some boat shows offer water activities, such as fishing and scuba diving. Grab your friends and family and make new memories with those fun aquatic adventures.
You got your event admission (tickets) and ready to see the attractions along with the gathering of attendees & boaters. Make sure to look for bargains for you to purchase and boat displays and latest boat models. Expect to se clothing for boaters and learn about the latest boat devices and electronics (products/accessories/technology) from special exhibits by big name exhibitors. All this will add to the experience for a watercraft show whether it was put on by an insurance company or a boating industry association. Yacht shows could even have brokerages or NMMA/BoatUS booths.

Are boat shows the best time to buy? | Do boat shows have good deals

Boat shows are an excellent time for dealers to display their products and make big sales. Since the competition is fierce, you can most likely avail of big discounts and benefit from good deals. You also get the opportunity to browse a huge variety of boats and select one that fits your needs perfectly. You can get expert advice about vessels you’re interested in from competitors since they’re more likely to point out drawbacks or flaws of the craft.

At the end of the day, the best time to buy a boat is when you’re ready for investment and adventure. Whether you buy a boat from a boat show, through a broker, or privately through a website, do a thorough background check and get an unbiased second opinion.

biggest yacht shows

A BOAT SHOW is a public exhibition or trade fair of current boat models, debuts, concept vessels, or out-of-production classics. Due to the nature of the industry building around yachting and nautical tourism, a boat show may be a social event. It is commonly attended by marine manufacturers, ship and boat builders as well as yachtsmen.

Most boat shows occur once a year, typically for the duration of a week. They may have exhibitions on land or on water. Boat shows are vital to marine manufacturers and local dealers as a public relations exercise, for advertising products, and for increasing publicity.

The World’s Biggest Boat Show: Boot Dusseldorf

  • Updated: January 16, 2020

boot Dusseldorf 2020

The biggest boat show in the world occurs in Germany in January. Officially called boot Dusseldorf, it is common in North America to refer to this extravaganza simply as the “Dusseldorf Boat Show.” The show dwarfs any other boat show in terms of size and number of boats. Many of the latest boats debut at boot Dusseldorf and BOATING is on site, delivering you coverage. Make sure to check our posts from boot Dusseldorf on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Or, visit the show site, here: https://www.boot.com .

Below is the official press release with more information.

When the first boot of the forthcoming decade starts on 18. January with the sounding of the official bell – the acoustic signal that indicates watches in the seafaring community – an unprecedented presentation of the water sports world will begin. Anything is possible at the trade fair that guarantees a 360° water sports experience – from sailing, motorboating, surfing, diving and fishing to simply relaxing by the water or arranging the holiday you have always wanted to enjoy. In Central Europe and in January, when it is wet and cold outside. boot offers maximum maritime flair for everyone who loves the water.

boot Düsseldorf 2020 in figures1,900 exhibitors from 71 different countries cover the entire water sports world: Palau, Papua New Guinea or Micronesia – boot is highlighting an unusual range of water sports destinations all round the world. It is the biggest water sports trade fair in the world, with 230,000 square metres of stand space spread over 17 halls on the exhibition site. Visitors are coming to Düsseldorf to more than 100 countries.

An insight into everything that water sports have to offerThe bright, well-lit new Hall 1 is a popular new home for motor yachts from 30 to 60 feet (10 to 20 metres) long. Much-loved, cosy family models like the Dutch steel yachts – from the Linssen shipyard, for example – are on show here. It is also where such large-scale manufacturers as Jeanneau, Bénéteau, Bavaria, Sealine or Greenline are exhibiting.

Hall 3: Focus on “Start Boating”

Scuba diving at boot Dusseldorf

Many people are keen to have a boat of their own, even if it only a little one. But even the smallest of outboard motors can cause trouble, while shipping traffic can be scary or finding suitable berths for one’s new boat can be problematic. Every motorboating newcomer faces issues like these. Answers can be found in Hall 3. Professional assistance and tips from experts are available to all recreational boating beginners – no matter what particular questions they may have – on the stand of the “start boating” project initiated by boot Düsseldorf. Media support for “start boating” is being provided by the experts from the magazine “boote” published by Delius-Klasing Verlag.

Boat tours with the family – popular in e-boats tooBoat tours with the family in a e-boat are already established in Scandinavia and they are becoming increasingly popular in the other European countries too. The X-Shore boats produced by the multitalented Swedish entrepreneur Konrad Bergström are on display in Hall 4, for example. The practical Finnish boats designed for fishing and relaxing are an attractive form of leisure mobility for the entire family too. The new drive systems for boats can be found in almost all the halls at boot Düsseldorf 2020.

NEW: Superboats in Hall 5

boot is devoting Hall 5 to the growing segment of luxury tenders, chase boats and shadow boats. The term “superboats” covers everything that is luxurious, fast, innovative and elegant. Such exclusive brands as Sacs, Wally, Frauscher, DeAntonio, Boesch, Fjord, Windy and Anvera will be presenting their latest developments in this segment. A chase or shadow boat can be far larger and far more luxurious than a normal tender and accompanies the superyacht on its voyage or is used for exclusive cruising purposes. The luxurious equipment of such a boat can be designed in full accordance with the owner’s requirements. As a result, it is possible to enjoy individually configured surroundings on excursions with friends for a fishing expedition or to an enchanting, remote bay too.

What is the biggest and most beautiful yacht in Hall 6?

The big and beautiful yachts in Hall 6 have travelled a long way to get there. Never before have so many large yachts between 80 and 96 feet in length been exhibited at boot. They came to Düsseldorf from the Caribbean or Turkey, for instance, on such transport ships as the Dutch Molengraat operated by the yacht transport company Seven Stars based in Rotterdam. They were then moved on flatbed trucks to Hall 6, where they can now be admired in all their glory. Hall 6 continues to be the home of the luxury segment at boot. Everyone who is anyone in the superyacht community is here to display his or her stunningly beautiful developments. Appropriately exquisite moorings for representative yachts are available at one of the exclusive superyacht marinas in, for example, Venice. Which can be found directly on the exhibition site too, on the gallery in Hall 6. Hall 7a rounds off the luxury segment at boot with the superyacht show.

Maritime Art for Enthusiasts in Hall 7

Following their tour of the luxury worlds, visitors can take it down a notch in Hall 7 and relax while contemplating maritime art. Large portrayals of ocean scenes, photographs of maritime motifs or creative sculptures invite visitors to linger and enjoy the works of art. One of the exhibitors is, for example, Heinke Boehnert with her artistic depiction of the Malizia Team skippered by Boris Herrmann from Hamburg, who will be on the artist’s stand to sign autographs at 16:00 on 19. January.

Hall 8a: board sport as its best in the surfing hallAnyone who thought that board sport peaked a long time ago should take a look at Hall 8a at boot 2020. Everyone who is anyone in the boarding community is exhibiting here. Nowhere else in the world will so many boards and the athletes who use them be at one place at the same time as at the forthcoming board sports summit to kick off the twenty-twenties at the boot Düsseldorf home port.

The fascinating exhibits in the surfing hall range from windsurfing, kitesurfing and SUP to high-speed action on the indoor wave: THE WAVE made by citywave® enjoyed an acclaimed premiere in Düsseldorf in 2017 and has been one thing more than anything else since then: extremely popular and thus always very busy. boot also has skimboarding facilities and a flat water pool with wakeboarding facilities. This is where relaxed stand-up paddlers demonstrate yoga exercises on their boards or kite- and windsurfers use simulators to get their exercise. Trainers, equipment and changing rooms can be found at the point of action. Board sports are being served à la carte for both experts and beginners. In addition to information about new trends and developments in, for example, foiling and the future prospects for professional boarders at the Olympic Games. It goes without saying that there will always be opportunities to meet and greet stars and other members of the international boarding community when visiting Hall 8a

Halls 9, 10 and 11: Huge selection of RIBs, dinghies, accessories, inboard motors and equipmentThe exhibitors in Hall 9 will be showcasing the latest developments with rigid inflatable boats (better known in the community as RIBs) and smaller dinghies. Halls 9 and 10 as well as part of Hall 11 concentrate mainly on accessories, inboard motors and equipment. One particular area that is less conspicuous is extremely popular at boot Düsseldorf. It is where the experts and specialists meet to talk shop and share their interest in even the smallest of technical details. The Refit Centre is popular with DIY enthusiasts. Professional advice, daily workshops and product information about boat repair and restoration can be found here in Hall 11 too.

Boot 2020 is presenting the biggest diving trade fair in the world in Halls 11, 12 and 13When boot Düsseldorf opens on 18. January 2020, this will at the same time mark the start of the biggest diving trade fair in the world in Halls 11, 12 and an adjacent section of Hall 13 too. The short walk from hall 12 to Hall 13 takes the form of an underwater diving tunnel. Gentle music and illuminations remind divers of fascinating diving expeditions they have experienced. With more than 400 exhibitors, it represents a unique cross-section of the industry. Because, in a nutshell: everything that divers could possibly desire will be on display. The global players in the diving field, like Aqua Lung, Mares and Cressi, will be presenting their complete product range. The “Dive Center” in Hall 12 is a popular attraction for all diving enthusiasts. Every day at boot 2020, beginners and experienced recreational divers will have an opportunity here to watch exciting films about exotic diving destinations, listen to interviews with internationally renowned stars and obtain valuable tips for beginners as they try out diving for the first time. Some of the highlights are visits by the most successful freediver in Germany and holder of 34 records – Anna von Boetticher – the filmmaker Florian Fischer, who has won numerous awards, with his creative network “Behind the Mask”, the adventurer, filmmaker and freediver Fred Buyle, who succeeded in diving to the 100 metre mark while holding his breath, the freediver and filmmaker Guillaume Néry and the Portuguese BBC wildlife videograph Nuno Sá, who is one of the best underwater videographs in the world.

Every year, many thousand divers enjoy a unique festival here which is not matched anywhere in the world. Leading international diving destinations whet the visitors’ appetite by presenting everything they have to offer too. The programme at boot is complemented at the technical level by the “Water Pixel World”, which is again located directly in the diving segment in Hall 11. Apart from the latest developments and innovations in filming and photography in the water and underwater, workshops with community insiders are playing a central role here from boot 2020 onwards. The professionals will give tips and demonstrate tricks relating to spectacular underwater photography and how to handle video cameras and drones.

“Love your ocean” campaign is featured in the diving hallsAll water sports enthusiasts in general and divers in particular love their element and protection of the oceans is important to them. The “love your ocean” campaign stand in Hall 11 reflects this and is therefore the centrepiece of the diving halls. Together with the German Ocean Foundation and the boot ocean advocate Emily Penn, this campaign is having tremendous worldwide impact in the meantime. “love your ocean” attracts numerous visitors at boot Düsseldorf and will be presenting almost 50 different ocean protection activities and research projects this year.

Halls 13 and 14: “Travel World“ highlights the most beautiful holiday destinations by lakes and oceansAppropriately enough, the water tourism halls 13 and 14 with “Travel World” are right next to the diving halls. Chartering agencies, marinas, houseboat providers as well as hotels, cruise companies and water sports locations are there to help visitors decide where to spend their next holiday in, by and on the water. A varied programme including tips about holiday destinations, charter and houseboat holidays or exciting canoeing and kayaking tours will be presented on the “Travel World” stage. These halls are the holiday and tourism centre at boot. The wide range of different destinations is supplemented by hotels that offer water sports activities in all their possible forms. There can be no doubt that even people who have not been actively involved in sports up to now will be inspired and encouraged here to enjoy their holiday by the water. Travel has developed into a particular highlight at boot and takes up a large proportion of the space in Halls 11 to 14 in the meantime. Insiders will be reporting about their experiences and will be giving direct tips about regions, locations or hotels. Anyone who then decides how and where he or she wants to spend the next holidays can, for example, make a reservation in the popular and well-known Baltic and North Sea regions or opt for an adventure in more exotic regions, depending on his or her personal preferences.

Popular houseboat holidays can be booked directly with the providers here too. During the “Day of the Canals” in the Inland Waterways Pavilion in Hall 13 on 20. January, experts will be giving interesting tips about houseboat holidays and will be presenting the attractive waterways in Europe.

Recreational sailing in Halls 15 to 17: Sailing is the original water sportSailing is the original water sport! The first known picture of a ship with sails is on an Egyptian drawing from Luxor that goes back to the period around 5000 BC! Christopher Columbus would not have discovered the “New World” without sails. There is no doubt about it: sailing was the first way that people travelled along rivers and across oceans. A popular water sport that has something to offer everyone developed out of people’s passion for sailing.

From 2020 onwards, three halls in Düsseldorf are being devoted to sailing. It goes without saying that the major players in this sector will be there too: Hanse, Bavaria, Hallberg Rassy or tall ship suppliers like Oyster, CNB and Nautors Swan are coming back. Together with the manufacturers of innovative new boats, they will paint a diverse picture of a progressive sailing community with plenty of international flair. Spiced by the appearances of globally renowned sailing figures like Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, such up-and-coming young sailors as Laura Dekker with her new sailing project for young people and experts or blue water sailing experts like Sönke Roever in the “Sailing Center”, the sailing halls reflect a lively and very emotional community. In co-operation with its media partner, the German publisher SVG Verlag, boot is launching the “start sailing” campaign (Hall 15). Newcomers and anyone else who is interested can benefit from the know-how provided by the experts here. In a casual atmosphere, young people and those who have stayed young at heart can make tremendous progress in fulfilling their dream of becoming a sailor.

For the first time, the original cup – that dates back to 1851 – from the America’s Cup presented by Prada is coming to Düsseldorf. This means that the trophy presented in the oldest sailing regatta that is still held today is travelling 18,538 kilometres from New Zealand to the city on the Rhine and will be publicising the impressive contest it represents.

“Ocean tribute” award with public voting for the first timeThe “ocean tribute” award, which is sponsored by the Prince Albert II Foundation, the German Ocean Foundation and boot Düsseldorf, is being presented in January 2020. Together with the foundation from Monaco, boot and the sponsors Seabob and Jaguar Land Rover, the prize money has been increased to EUR 20,000. All institutions, associations, research facilities and projects that aim to protect oceans, lakes and waterways were able to apply. The jury of experts has selected a short list of five from all the entries and their projects are being presented on the Award website oceantributeaward.boot.de . For the first time, the public was also invited to participate in choosing the winner. The results of this are being taken into account in the final vote too. The Malizia Team skipper Boris Herrmann will be paying tribute to the winner.

The top 25 largest yachts in the world

Every year, shipyards from around the world push the boundaries of superyacht design to deliver bigger and better yachts. The Samuda-built El Mahrousa may have carried the title unchallenged for a remarkable 119 years, but in the 21st century, she has descended down the pecking order to make room for even larger and longer yachts. German shipyard Lürssen currently holds a near monopoly in the construction of supersized superyachts, having delivered 13 of the world’s top 25. But the list is ever-changing with the 158 metre Blue breaking into the top five in 2022. These yachts, all measuring over 100 metres, are impressive not only for their hull length but for what they carry above and below deck. From submarines and helicopters to swimming pools , cinemas and science labs, the onboard features of these superyachts show them to be truly ground-breaking pieces of engineering. Read on to discover our official list of the largest, privately owned yachts in the world.

1. Azzam | 180.6m

In October 2013, Lürssen delivered the largest privately owned superyacht in the world in the form Azzam . Originally, she was designed to be 145 metres, but in the process of optimisation grew to 180 metres. Other stunning facts about Azzam’s impressive design include her staggering 13,000 GT and accommodation for 36 guests and as many as 80 crew members. The behemoth was reportedly built for Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan of Abu Dhabi’s royal family, for use as a dayboat to reach his favourite diving grounds. The main saloon alone encompasses nearly 522m² and has a relaxed French Empire style and mother of pearl finishes, designed by Christophe Leoni . On board features include a gym, pool and a special ‘golf training room’.

Exteriors have been penned by Nauta Yacht Design , and the technical engineering was directed by Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi for the owner. The yacht has an impressive speed for her size owing to her innovative water-jet propulsion system (two fixed jets, two directional), which catapults her along at a staggering 31.5-plus knots. At 17.5 metres longer than Roman Abramovich’s Eclipse , this boat takes the prestigious title of the world’s largest yacht. The all-white superyacht has held her title unchallenged for nearly seven years, but this reign will come to an end with the expected delivery of 183 metre REV .

More about this yacht

More stories, 2. eclipse | 162.5m.

After five years of intensive design, development and construction, Eclipse left the Blohm + Voss yard in December 2010. She carried the title of world’s largest superyacht for just three years before being usurped by Azzam . Managed by Blue Ocean Yacht Management, Eclipse features a diesel-electric propulsion system with generators powering rotating Azipod drives, dramatic exterior styling and a stunning interior design by London-based Terence Disdale Design , which has been responsible for all aspects of aesthetic design and layout, including the superstructure design, deck layouts, interior design and construction supervision. Eclipse was voted Motor Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards in 2011 and Motor Yacht of the Decade at the 10th World Superyacht Awards in 2015.

Her accommodation includes an owner’s deck of 56 metres in length and facilities for up to 92 crew. Her interior boasts hundreds of custom finishes exclusively developed especially for this project, while her deck areas include a 16 metre swimming pool which can be transformed into a dance floor. The yacht can also accommodate three helicopters, one on each of the two helipads and the third in a storage hangar below the fore deck.

3. Dubai | 162m

Dubai was originally commissioned by Prince Jefri of Brunei with exterior styling and interior design by Andrew Winch . The Blohm & Voss project was suspended in 1998 with just the bare hull and partially complete superstructure. It was eventually sold to the Dubai government, and responsibility passed to Kostis Antonopoulos of Platinum Yachts , which prepared a new in-house interior design completed in 2006.

The aptly named Dubai is the royal yacht of Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum of Dubai. The accommodation, styled by Nakheel Interiors , is designed for 24 guests and comprises an owner’s suite, five VIP suites and six guest suites, all with open balconies. Special features include a 21.3m-wide atrium, a swimming pool, barbecue area, cinema, disco, a landing platform for a Blackhawk helicopter, a gymnasium, and a garage for the yacht’s submarine and a vast array of water toys. Full certification was obtained from Lloyds Register of Shipping in October 2006 and she has since made several voyages. She can reach a maximum speed of 25 knots.

4. Blue | 158m

Taking her place at number four in the list of the world’s longest yachts, Lürssen’s Blue is so voluminous that she beats all the longer boats in terms of gross tonnage. Built for a Middle Eastern owner, she is exceeded for internal space only by those behemoths Dilbar (15,917GT) and Al Said (15,850GT). Terence Disdale has penned classic exterior lines with a sharply raked bow and gentle curves to the deep overhangs of the decks. The main helipad is positioned on the bow, with a smaller one aft. Other exterior features include a pool under cover on the main deck aft, a bathing platform at the stern and twin balconies flanking the owner’s cabin forward. Blue ’s interior is designed to be timeless and rich in “feminine elegance”, a deliberate contrast to the exterior.

Blue is equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system that was developed in-house. An electric Azimuth pod drive can manoeuvre the boat alone or in conjunction with the twin propeller shafts. To reduce noise, vibration and NOx levels, Blue has a state-of-the-art exhaust treatment system. The boat is also equipped with new membrane technology that means her treated waste water achieves drinking water quality.

5. Dilbar | 156m

With a total interior volume of over 15,000 GT, Dilbar is the largest yacht in the world by gross tonnage, if not by length. She was built in steel and aluminium by Lürssen to a design by Espen Øino . In 2016, she was delivered in the Mediterranean for her owner, the Uzbekistani billionaire Alisher Usmanov. She replaced Usmanov’s previous yacht of the same name, which has since been renamed Ona . She is usually spotted cruising around the South of France, northern Spain and sometimes Cyprus.

Record-breaking features on board this SOLAS-class superyacht include her 180 cubic metre swimming pool and her 30,000KW electric diesel power plant. Her interiors, styled by Winch Design, can accommodate up to 24 guests served by nearly 100 crew members. She also has two helipads, 3,800 square metres of living space amd an expansive garden complete with a specially developed variety of grass that tolerates salt air, according to its creator Axel Massmann. Dilbar has a single colour for her exterior, a buttery cream shade, that makes her instantly recognisable at sea and can reach a top speed of 21 knots.

  • Delivery year: 2016
  • Length Overall: 156 m
  • Beam: 23.5 m
  • Gross Tonnage 15917 t

6. Al Said | 155m

This Lloyd’s-classed vessel, known as Project Sunflower during construction, was delivered by Lürssen’s Vegesack yard to her owner, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman, in March 2008. Measuring an impressive 155 metres, Al Said is the principle vessel of the Oman Royal Yacht Squadron. Designed by Espen Øino with the looks of a classic cruise liner, she sails under the Omani flag and her home port is Muttrah Harbour in Muscat.

This Germanischer Lloyd-classed, 15,850GT yacht can reach a top speed of 25 knots and is reported to have a crew capacity of 150. Her panelled interiors, designed in a traditional style by Jonathan Quinn Barnett , offers huge entertaining spaces and accommodation for 65 guests. Her pièce de résistance is the on-board concert hall that can accommodate a 50-strong orchestra, but across her six decks she also has a helipad and a cinema.

  • Delivery year: 2008
  • Length Overall: 155 m
  • Gross Tonnage 15850 t

7. El Mahrousa | 150.6m

El Mahrousa was first delivered by the Samuda Brothers shipyard in 1865. She held on to the title of longest yacht in the world for over a century before finally being usurped by the delivery of Prince Abdulaziz in the 1980s. She was originally built for the Ottoman governor of Egypt, Khedive Ismail, receive visiting dignitaries. and was present at the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal in 1869, when she was used to receive visiting dignitaries. She was lengthened by 12.1 metres in 1872, when her paddle wheels were removed, and by a further 5.2 metres in 1905. Her last major rebuild was in 1950.

Significant moments in her lifetime include her participation in 1976 as the Egyptian representative at the Bicentennial Fleet Review in New York harbour. She slipped into disrepair after this while being used as a museum ship. In 1992, a major effort was put into making her seaworthy enough to travel to Italy for the Christopher Columbus Fleet Review. She now serves as the Egyptian Presidential Yacht but is seldom seen in public. She is usually berthed in Alexandria, where she is cared for by the Egyptian Navy, which lists her as a training ship. Powered by three Parsons steam turbines, she can achieve a top speed of 16 knots.

8. A+ | 147.3m

Formerly known as Topaz , the Tim Heywood -designed A+ was launched by Lürssen in 2012 and uniquely features Heywood’s signature illuminated on her superstructure. Although she flies a Cayman flag, her owner is a member of the UAE elite – reportedly Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who also owns the UK’s Manchester City football club.

Having previously been chartered twice by Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the 147.25 metre superyacht features a helicopter landing pad located at the bow and her interiors have been designed by Terence Disdale – but not much else is known about this superyacht, as many of her details are still shrouded in secrecy.

  • Delivery year: 2012
  • Length Overall: 147.25 m
  • Beam: 21.5 m
  • Gross Tonnage 12532 t

9. Prince Abdulaziz | 147m

The 5,200-tonne Prince Abdulaziz was delivered by Danish shipyard Helsingor Vaerft in 1984 to her first owner, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. Since then, she has continued to serve the Saudi royal family and is berthed beside the king’s palace in Jeddah. She has been refitted three times; in 1987, 1996 and in 2005.

Prince Abdulaziz was built at a reported cost of $184m to a design by Maierform . Her interior, designed by the late David Hicks , blends ancient and modern. One notable feature is the large lobby, said to be designed to mimic that of the Titanic . She includes a hospital, a mosque and a cinema, and there are also rumours of surface-to-air missiles and an underwater surveillance system on board. The mega yacht can accommodate as many as 64 guests and is manned by a crew of 65.

  • Delivery year: 1984
  • Length Overall: 147.01 m
  • Beam: 18.3 m

10. Opera | 146.4m

Reportedly built for a senior Emirati royal, Opera 's size and gross tonnage catapult her directly into the ranks of the world's 10 biggest private yachts. The 146.4-metre yacht certainly has some of the hallmarks of a Middle Eastern boat, with deep overhangs between decks and lots of enclosed deck space hinting at use in an aggressive climate. Pictures taken during a maiden voyage from Bremen to Portsmouth last summer showed lots of floor-to-ceiling glass across six guest decks, as well as two helicopter landing spots and a beach club whose twin staircases must climb two decks to reach a 10-metre, stone-lined pool aft of the main deck. The pool rises to form a dance floor.

Lürssen has kept the project shrouded in secrecy, but designer Terence Disdale confirmed that interior facilities include a cinema and an extensive spa and wellness centre, plus other features that are being kept under wraps. He also mentioned an upper lounge with a 110-inch television and bay windows.

  • Delivery year: 2023
  • Length Overall: 146.35 m
  • Gross Tonnage 12518 t

11. OK | 146m

This unusual vessel spent decades plying the seas as a float-on yacht carrier for DYT Yacht Transport with the unglamorous moniker Super Servant 3 – and it is this carrying ability that caught the owner’s eye.

40 years after its original launch by Japan’s Oshima Shipbuilding , the yacht emerged from a root-and-branch refit at Karmarine in Turkey. The exterior has been smartened up, with a new matt-black paint job, gold-tinted glazing, teak decking at the bow, stern and sides and an expanse of artificial grass on the submersible aft deck – an idea of the owner’s, to enliven the guest cabins’ view. There are reports that this space doubles as a tennis court and, at 32 metres by 100 metres, there would certainly be the room for it.

With a strengthened hull, the boat’s original role as a yacht carrier has been enhanced. Pumping ballast into tanks under the aft deck allows the platform to lower so that the owner’s 46-metre ketch can be floated aboard and secured. There’s also a 40-tonne crane for positioning other toys – reportedly up to 70 of them, from launches and cars to a seaplane.

Under the direction of Bozca Design , Karmarine has stripped out and rebuilt the accommodation area at the front of the yacht. There are cabins for up to 20 guests, a glazed sundeck spa pool, a "botanical" garden and an outdoor cinema. The lift between decks runs through a glass tower outside the superstructure.

  • Builder: Oshima Shipbuilding
  • Country of build: Japan
  • Delivery year: 1982
  • Length Overall: 146 m
  • Beam: 32.01 m
  • Gross Tonnage 11296 t

12. Sailing Yacht A | 142.8m

This Philippe Starck -designed vessel is the second superyacht commissioned by Russian businessman Andrey Melnichenko, after his first Motor Yacht A . She was built in Germany by the Nobiskrug yard and delivered in February 2017.

A sail-assisted yacht like no other, Sailing Yacht A comprises eight decks, and her rotating curved carbon fibre masts tower to 100 metres. She is made to set 3,747 square metres of sail and is manned by crew of 54. She sports an underwater viewing pod (moulded into the keel) and balconies enclosed by the largest pieces of curved glass ever. There are 24 shell doors in her hull, and she has a diesel-electric power plant controlled by computer. Records claimed by the Starck superyacht include the world's tallest carbon masts, with the tallest standing at 100 metres above sea level.

  • Builder: Nobiskrug
  • Delivery year: 2017
  • Length Overall: 142.81 m
  • Beam: 24.88 m
  • Gross Tonnage 12700 t

13. Nord | 142m

Nord started life as Project Redwood, then Opus. Everyone involved in her design and build has remained tight-lipped about the details, but build manager Rob Moran shared some exclusive insight with BOAT International .

First up, she has an Ice Class hull for real exploration. Her aluminium superstructure runs to four decks, contained within the dramatic sweep of a black-painted arch – a key part of the vision of designers Nuvolari Lenard . Not one but two helipads are in evidence, while a vast beach club and tender garage gives  "space to store a plethora of toys including 16 tenders, a submarine and an ROV", according to Moran. The largest tender reportedly measures 15 metres, and there is a watersports and dive centre on the lower deck. Nord has a generous touch-and-go helipad at its heavily flared aircraft carrier bow, but there is also a much bigger space aft up on the bridge deck that offers landing, parking and bunkering for the owner’s helicopter, as well as an entire hangar for protection during longer passages.

Also visible to onlookers was the exceptional 25-metre-long swimming pool on the main deck aft, plus a spa pool on the upper deck. Her interior is reported to include a gym, spa, sauna and a whole deck devoted to the owner.

  • Delivery year: 2021
  • Length Overall: 141.6 m
  • Beam: 19.5 m
  • Gross Tonnage 10154 t

14. Yas | 141m

Delivered in 1978 by De Schelde as a navy frigate, Yas was rebuilt in 2013 by Abu Dhabi MAR. Previously known under the project name Swift 141, she was completely modified with new machinery and electronic systems and outfitted with a luxurious interior. It has been suggested that her owner is a member of the Emirati royal family.

She has been designed inside and out by Pierrejean Design Studio of Paris . The unique superstructure of Yas is built in advanced composites and glass and was supposedly inspired by the profile shape of a dolphin. She is reportedly able to accommodate 60 guests and 56 crew, and on-board features include a heli-pad and al fresco dining spaces aft, and a Jacuzzi on her top deck. Her beach club Jacuzzi is complemented by a waterfall feature and a spiral staircase connects her the multiple decks. Powered by twin MTU diesels, Yas has a top speed of 26 knots.

  • Builder: De Schelde
  • Country of build: Netherlands
  • Length Overall: 141 m
  • Beam: 14.6 m
  • Gross Tonnage 5002 t

15. Ocean Victory | 140m

Ocean Victory was completed at Fincantieri’s Muggiano yard in Italy after launching in April 2014. This seven-deck yacht is based on a design by Espen Øino and her interior is by Alberto Pinto and Laura Sessa . She has internal seawater dockage for a 14-metre tender and six pools of up to 8 metres in length. There’s a certified helideck and a hangar to store the aircraft, while inside Ocean Victory boasts an underwater observation room and more than 300 square metres of spa facilities. She is SOLAS-classed and is the largest yacht ever built in Italy.

In 2016, the superyacht world was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of one of Ocean Victory’ s crew members, who suffered critical leg injuries while setting the anchor off the coast of Mu Ko Similan National Park in Thailand. Little else is known about this top-secret yacht, which is kept much under wraps and away from prying eyes.

  • Builder: Fincantieri
  • Country of build: Italy
  • Delivery year: 2014
  • Length Overall: 140 m
  • Gross Tonnage 8506 t

16. Scheherazade | 140m

Another titan by Lürssen , Scheherazade carries the same name as the enigmatic story-teller of the Middle Eastern epic One Thousand and One nights . She hit the water in July 2019 and offers phenomenal volumes at 10,167 GT. Her Espen Øino exterior features a four-deck aluminium superstructure with elegant tapering roofs and an eclectic range of coloured LED exterior lighting. She also has two large helipads – one at the bow and one on the upper deck – plus a prominent beach club aft.

There is very little information regarding her interior by François Zuretti , but if the work of the French design house on 106-metre Amadea is anything to go by, it is imperious and sophisticated. With the owner known to be a Middle Eastern billionaire, this yacht is designed with warmer climates in mind. Temperatures in excess of 45 degrees Celsius are quite normal in the region during the summer months, so Scheherazade has relatively little exterior space for a yacht of this size. There is limited covered deck space at the aft end of the main and upper decks, but it is well enclosed by glass sides for cooling. Even the sundeck is completely shaded by a hardtop, which all helps to give her an astonishing internal volume.

  • Delivery year: 2020
  • Beam: 23.3 m
  • Gross Tonnage 10167 t

17. Solaris | 140M

The 140-metre expedition yacht Solaris was launched in the city of Bremerhaven in February 2021 as the flagship model of German shipyard Lloyd Werft . She is the debut project of Australian designer Marc Newson , who has given her a dramatic grey and white superstructure which features a unique fashion plate which wraps around the mast and connects both sides of the hull. Spanning eight decks in total, Solaris has been constructed in aluminium and steel and offers a 26-metre beam. Little information has been shared about her interiors, but her exterior is equipped with a large helipad, a sun deck and a spacious beach club aft.

Turning to the technical elements, Solaris is reportedly outfitted with a power and energy management system from ABB and features two Azipods powered by nine megawatts – the most powerful propulsion system of its kind to ever be installed on a yacht. She runs on a total of eight MTU diesel engines, providing 19,040hp. Little else is known about the superyacht, on which construction first began in 2018.

  • Builder: Lloyd Werft
  • Length Overall: 139.7 m
  • Gross Tonnage 11247 t

18. Al Salamah | 139.3m

Built by the consortium of Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft (HDW) in Kiel and the Lürssen shipyard in Germany, Al Salamah is often referred to as "Mipos", the code name used during the construction of this most secret of yachts. Mipos was short for "Mission Possible" – a statement proved correct by her delivery in 1999.

She has a length of 139.3 metres, a massive beam of 23.5 metres, and is reported to have a top speed of 21.5 knots. Both the interior design and the exterior styling are by the London-based Terence Disdale Design . Al Salamah was owned by the late Sultan bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, who also owned 147 metre Prince Abdulaziz . She was refitted by Lürssen in 2007 and is rumoured to carry a hospital room with an underwater treadmill for physical therapy on board.

  • Delivery year: 1999
  • Length Overall: 139.29 m
  • Gross Tonnage 12234 t

19. Luminance | 138.8m

Espen Øino is repsonsible for this giant yacht's crisp exterior lines. Despite a traditional raked bow, she looks bang up to date with a gleaming hull and superstructure that counterpoise dark blue and silver to create a masculine look. Øino has played with the profile of the overhangs to give the illusion of reverse sheer amidships. The effect is especially striking when viewing the yacht from beam-on. Her twin helicopter pads – one on the foredeck and another high up aft – will make her capable of ambitious explorer programmes. She also boasts a large beach club and an infinity pool, with a private spa pool area on the foredeck of what may be an owner's deck.

Luminance was expected in 2023, but delivery has fallen back a fraction. It is a mammoth project, whose true length has only just been confirmed at 138.8 metres. Her Ukranian owner, mining and financial services mogul Rinat Akhmetov, told The New York Times last year that he was mulling the boat's sale following Russia's invasion of his homeland, but it's not known whether he followed through.

  • Delivery year: 2024
  • Length Overall: 138.8 m
  • Gross Tonnage 8999 t

20. Rising Sun | 138m

Rising Sun was built for Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO of Oracle. She's the last yacht that ever came from designer Jon Bannenberg’s drawing board, with interiors styled by   Laura Seccombe . Rising Sun ’s naval architecture experimented with an extensive use of structural glass for a clean and stripped-down profile.

In 2006, Ellison sold half ownership to media mogul David Geffen, who bought the remaining half in 2010. Rising Sun is reported to have cost more than $290,000,000 and was extended by 18 metres in-build to ensure she was larger than the 126.2-metre Octopus , belonging to Microsoft’s co-founder, Paul Allen. Her 8,000 square metres of living space can accommodate 45 crew members, and includes a wine cellar and basketball court, plus accommodation for 16. One of her tenders, a catamaran, carries the yacht’s 4x4 vehicle ashore.

  • Delivery year: 2004
  • Length Overall: 138.01 m
  • Gross Tonnage 7600 t

21. Flying Fox | 136m

Formerly Project Shu, PYC-compliant Flying Fox was built by Lürssen for a serial charter yacht owner and completed her sea trials off the coast of Germany in May 2019. The 136-metre, six-deck yacht towers 32 metres above the waterline – as tall as three London buses balanced end on end. Her elegant, well-balanced profile by Espen Øino conceals an extraordinarily voluminous interior by Mark Berryman , including a double-height atrium that forms the main deck lobby. There are 11 cabins for 36 guests, all with private sea-view terraces, and expansive outdoor living spaces, such as a 12-metre swimming pool transversing the main deck aft, swim platforms and two helipads. The 400-square-metre spa is the stand-out feature. It has heated limestone floors, a Hammam, massage and beauty treatment rooms and the first cryosauna ever installed on a yacht, with a main chamber that reaches a chilly -110C. There’s also an on-board hospital.

One of the most expensive superyachts in the world available for charter , Flying Fox is crewed by an experienced team of 54. She boasts a toybox stuffed with jet skis and other Seabobs, hoverboards, room for a submarine and and nine different tenders. Plus, she even has her own dive centre and kite surf store on board.

  • Delivery year: 2019
  • Length Overall: 136 m
  • Beam: 20.5 m

22. Savarona | 135.9m

Built by Blohm + Voss for American bridge cable heiress Emily Roebling Cadwalader in 1931, Savarona was sold in 1938 to the Turkish government and became the presidential yacht of Kemal Atatürk. In 1989, Kahraman Sadikoglu obtained a 50-year lease and, with investors, spent $35,000,000 on the refit of this classic superyacht, including a library suite dedicated to the memory of Atatürk and furnished with his personal artefacts. In 2010, after an alleged scandal, the Turkish government cancelled the lease and resumed ownership. In 2014, she was refurbished and now serves as the state yacht of Turkey.

Savarona was, for a time, offered on the market for superyacht charters around Istanbul, although she is no longer available to the public. Key features onboard this superyacht include a marble-finished Turkish hammam bath that spans the entire 16-metre beam, a swimming pool, a gold-trimmed grand staircase and a private cinema. She is named after a type of black swan found in the Indian Ocean region.

23. Crescent | 135.5m

Crescent , formerly Project Thunder, has what the yard called a "traditionally-styled" interior by Zuretti , exterior design by Espen Øino and naval architecture by Lürssen . Øino went to great lengths to maximise what he calls the "vision lines" from the interior and the decks – especially from the centreline, which on such a beamy boat is a long way from the sides – by having full height windows and keeping the bulwarks as low as possible.

She has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and was built to DNV GL standards. Her striking black hull is matched with a silver superstructure that has distinctive wing stations amidships. Just forward of the wing stations are three-deck windows, providing spectacular views for her 18-strong guest list.

  • Delivery year: 2018
  • Length Overall: 135.5 m
  • Gross Tonnage 9194 t

24. Serene | 133.9m

Built for a Russian owner, Serene was the first superyacht delivered by Italian yard Fincantieri . She can accommodate up to 24 guests and 52 crew, and boasts 4,500 square metres of interior space designed by Reymond Langton .

Serene has seven decks, two helipads and a hangar, carries a custom submarine certified to 100m depth and has underwater viewing ports in her Nemo room. A "snow room" can make up to four inches of snow, while the impressive spiral staircase rises through six decks and is lit by a large skylight. Serene won Best Motor Yacht of 3,000GT and Above at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards. Powered by a diesel engine, Serene can reach a top speed of 20 knots and has a maximum cruising range of 6000 nautical miles.

  • Delivery year: 2011
  • Length Overall: 133.9 m
  • Beam: 18.6 m
  • Gross Tonnage 8231 t

25. Al Mirqab | 133m

Al Mirqab was built by Peterswerft - Kusch for Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani – the former prime minister of Qatar. Her exterior design is by Tim Heywood and her interiors were styled by Winch Design . She is propelled by five generators that power two electric motors driving conventional shafts and a centrally positioned azimuthing electric pod drive. A grand staircase floats through four floors and surrounds suspended glass artwork by Dale Chihuly.

Al Mirqab won Motor Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards 2009 and Best Interior Design among motor yachts. She can accommodate 60 guests and is manned by an equal number of crew.

Experts teach more than 200 lectures and classes on boating, fishing and the latest industry knowledge about technology, navigation, maintenance and more.

With so many boat shows taking place from coast to coast, you’ll have a tough time trying to squeeze all these events into your schedule. After you’ve narrowed down your list, you’re going to want to make the most of your time at each show. Though every U.S. boat show is different, we’ve gathered  10 tips we believe  will help you have the best experience possible.

  • Research the show you plan to attend:  Before you even step foot into the show, you should already know what to expect. This tip is especially helpful for the largest boat shows in North America, as they will have so many things to see and do. Read about the featured events, exhibitors and activities at each show. You can also download or print out a map that will direct you to the distributors or sponsors you wish to visit.
  • Purchase tickets online ahead of time:  Don’t spend your valuable time waiting in line for tickets. Conveniently, most boat shows allow you to purchase tickets online so you can cruise right into the event.
  • Dress comfortably:  Whether you’re visiting all day or all weekend, prepare to be on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes and consider bringing a light jacket in case you get cold in the facility.
  • Use your time responsibly:  Despite your best efforts, you’ll likely not be able to see and do everything, but that’s OK. With your map in hand, you can make a list of the top products you want to see and get the most out of your experience without wasting time running from distributor to distributor for the sake of seeing it all.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions:  Everyone at a boat show loves boating as much as you do. They’ll be happy to speak with you and answer all your questions about discounts, specials or pricing. Distributors like EZ Dock send their most knowledgeable representatives out to the event so they can provide you with the best service possible.
  • Engage in product demonstrations:  At the best U.S. boat shows, you can expect to get a hands-on experience. Feel free to engage in any available product demonstrations so you can get a good feel for the product.
  • Enter the show with a firm financial plan:  Though it will be tempting to scoop up all the cool and innovative products you see, you should always attend an event with a strict budget and a clear understanding of what you can afford.
  • Know when to say no:  Some distributors will see your excitement and naturally ask if you’d like to take a product home with you. If you stick to your financial plan, you’ll know when to respectfully and responsibly say no to these offers.
  • Know when to say yes:  If you’ve done your research before the show, you’ll know the best deals when you see them. If you’ve come prepared to purchase a product you need with the budget you can afford, say yes and take home a great deal.
  • Enjoy yourself:  Boat shows are supposed to be a blast. Rest easy and enjoy every minute exploring what these events have to offer.

Chicago Boat Show announces new location for 2025

Show floor of the Chicago Boat Show.

The NMMA announced the  Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show is moving from McCormick Place to the Donald E. Stephens Convention & Conference Center (DES Convention Center) in 2025.

NMMA said the move of Chicagoland’s largest boating event is the result of thorough market analysis, exhibitor demand and boater feedback, and positions the show for growth to meet the needs of the boating industry and attendees throughout the region. The Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show will take place in its new space, January 8-12, 2025.

“After consulting with stakeholders and in-depth analysis, the best path forward is producing the Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show at the DES Convention Center,” said Darren Envall, Vice President of Midwest Boat & Sportshows for NMMA. “The more centralized Rosemont, IL location positions the show for growth, accommodating the expanding boating population across a broader Chicagoland region, from the city and surrounding neighborhoods to the suburbs and exurbs of Chicago, and surrounding states.”

The DES Convention Center will host both large and small boats and exhibitors from a multi-state area spanning Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Centrally located in the Village of Rosemont, 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, the DES Convention Center provides 840,000 square feet of exhibition space, is near a multitude of restaurants, hotels, shops and entertainment, and within close access to a number of major highways and public transportation offerings. The Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show joins other shows in the outdoor industry in making Rosemont its home, including the Chicago RV & Camping Show, Chicago Golf Show, and Travel & Adventure Show.

“The Chicagoland area is a hub for tourism and events, and the Village of Rosemont is no exception with its convenient location, close parking, and great amenities,” said Christopher Stephens, Executive Director of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. “On behalf of Rosemont and the DES Convention Center, we are pleased and honored to welcome the Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show to its new home and show exhibitors and both current and future boaters all that Rosemont has to offer. We look forward to carrying on this Chicago tradition and are invested in continuing this partnership with the NMMA.”

“We look forward to hosting the Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show at the DES Convention Center, providing critical business to the recreational boating industry and continuing as the best event for consumers to see and shop the region’s largest selection of boats,” said Envall.

Business | Chicago Boat Show setting sail for Rosemont in 2025

The Chicago Boat Show, long a winter attraction at McCormick Place, is leaving the city and setting sail for the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont next year.

The annual show, which has seen dwindling attendance in recent years, is relocating to the northwest suburbs after nearly a century in Chicago, in part to be closer to its target recreational boat-buying customer, organizers said.

“We met with our exhibitors and the decision was made that we need to go out to the suburbs,” said Darren Envall, manager of the Chicago Boat Show. “It is closer to where people are doing boating in the Fox Lake area as well as Lake Geneva, and it is closer to where the dealers are located.”

The show, which dates back nearly a century, has throughout its history been a Chicago event of national importance on the boating industry calendar.

Owned and operated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the show was a mainstay at McCormick Place for decades, and before that at the since-demolished International Amphitheatre. The show has gone through several incarnations, reaching its pinnacle in the 1990s as the Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show, which regularly attracted more than 50,000 visitors each year.

While attendance had declined in recent years, it still drew about 40,000 visitors annually before temporarily shutting down in 2021 and 2022 during the pandemic.

The most recent five-day show in January, hampered by a heavy snowstorm, drew fewer than 20,000 attendees, Envall said.

A loss for McCormick Place, a win for Rosemont, the migration of the boat show represents something of a zero-sum game for the Chicago-area convention business, which has been recovering in the post-pandemic landscape.

“Big exciting news,” said Christopher Stephens, executive director of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

While there had been discussion in the past about luring the boat show to Rosemont, Stephens said things got “more serious” this year, helping the northwest suburb land a major regional event.

Stephens said the Rosemont convention center offered the boat show and its attendees adjacent hotels, entertainment and a 9,000-space parking facility, all of which helped seal the deal. Down the road, the show could expand to the entire 840,000 square feet of exhibition space, as needed.

He also touted safety as an advantage for Rosemont over Chicago, which has struggled with the perception of increased crime in the wake of the pandemic.

“We always want to make sure when people come here that they feel safe,” Stephens said. “We provide as much policing and traffic controls as possible for attendees.”

While corporate meetings are still down, Stephens said conventions and large public events have returned to pre-pandemic levels in Rosemont, with the 2025 calendar now significantly bolstered by the addition of the boat show.

At the same time, he said Rosemont doesn’t try to “poach business” from Chicago.

“We’ve always thought that a strong McCormick Place was good for Rosemont,” Stephens said. “We’ll obviously never turn down an event, if they want to relocate out to Rosemont and we can accommodate them, but we don’t actively solicit.”

For McCormick Place, it’s been win some, lose some in March.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced it was returning its Ignite information technology conference to McCormick Place in November after a nine-year absence. The inaugural event in 2015 drew 20,000 attendees to Chicago’s convention center.

“The sales cycle can be very dynamic in the convention industry,” said Cynthia McCafferty, a McCormick Place spokesperson. “Microsoft Ignite was a great addition to our calendar this year, we have a very robust pipeline of new business ahead and feel good about the future.”

The loss of the boat show is both symbolic and substantial for McCormick Place, erasing a solid and historically well-attended event from the January calendar in 2025, and likely beyond.

The Chicago Boat Show was often the first big public event of the year, setting the table for the annual Chicago Auto Show and filling the exhibition halls with visitors dreaming of summer during the coldest winter months.

In 2025, the Chicago Boat Show will keep the city’s name, at least for now, as it migrates to the suburbs for a scheduled Jan. 8-12 run.

The new version of the show will focus more on fishing boats and weekend warriors who hitch up a trailer and head for the Chain O’Lakes to drop a line, as opposed to plying Lake Michigan in larger crafts. Envall said that represents about 85% of the boaters in the Chicago area, most of whom reside in the suburbs.

Despite its long history in Chicago, Envall said he expects Rosemont to be the event’s home for years to come.

“There’s a time to change and the change was to get out to the village of Rosemont where more of the recreational boater is reflected in the market,” Enval said.

With green and glee, major US parades mark St. Patrick's Day — a little early

NEW YORK – People across the United States celebrated Irish heritage at several major St. Patrick's Day parades Saturday, marking the holiday a day early at events that included a big anniversary in Savannah, Georgia, and honored a pioneering female business leader as grand marshal in New York.

The holiday commemorates Ireland's patron saint and was popularized largely by Irish Catholic immigrants. While St. Patrick's Day falls on March 17, some parades were moved up from Sunday, a day of worship for the Christian faithful.

Recommended Videos

Manhattan's St. Patrick's Day Parade , which dates to 1762 — 14 years before the U.S. Declaration of Independence — is one of the world’s largest Irish heritage festivities.

Megan Stransky of Houston and two relatives planned a Broadway weekend to coincide with the parade, seeing it as a prime opportunity to remember their family's Irish roots and the traditions that helped shape their upbringing.

The event didn't disappoint.

“There is no comparison to any other parade or city that I’ve been to,” Stransky marveled as she took in the bagpipers, bands, police and military contingents and more.

The grand marshal, Irish-born Heineken USA CEO Maggie Timoney, is the first female CEO of a major U.S. beer company. At a pre-parade reception at New York’s mayoral residence, Irish Minister for Justice Helen McEntee hailed the recognition for Timoney and noted some other causes for celebrating Irish American links this year, including Irish actor Cillian Murphy’s best actor Oscar win last weekend.

New York City has multiple parades on various dates around its five boroughs — including, on Sunday, the first St. Patrick's Day parade allowing LGBTQ+ groups to march on Staten Island.

Mayor Eric Adams last month announced the plan for the new, privately organized celebration, arranged after a local organization asked for years to join the borough's decades-old parade. That longstanding event, which does not allow groups to march under LGBTQ+ banners, happened earlier this month.

The Manhattan parade began allowing LGBTQ+ groups and symbols in 2015, after decades of protests, legal challenges and boycotts by some politicians.

Ahead of Chicago's parade, thousands of people — many decked out in green with beers in hand — gathered along the Chicago River to watch the local plumbers union boats turn the water green . Organizers say the tradition, started by the union, uses an environmentally friendly powder once used to check pipes for leaks.

Katie and Ryan Fox, of suburban Mount Pleasant, landed a spot on a tour boat and saw one of the union boats spraying the dye in front of them.

Ryan Fox, 37, said seeing the river dyed by boat was one of his “bucket list” items.

“If there’s a city that does it better than Chicago, I’d like to see it,” he said.

Large, green-garbed crowds also lined the streets of Savannah for the bicentennial of a parade that began with a few dozen Irish immigrants in 1824. It's now one of the South's major annual events, much so that the Savannah area had nearly 18,000 hotel rooms booked for the weekend.

Other communities lent their own flavor to the St. Patrick's Day revelry.

In Oklahoma City, hundreds lined the streets of Stockyard City — the country's largest stockyard operation — for a parade including longhorn cattle, clowns and a man dressed as St. Patrick. The grand marshal was Anita Swift, granddaughter of American film legend John Wayne.

In San Francisco, revelers wearing dark green T-shirts and lime green feather boas watched bands, floats and buses in the city's annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. The event called for unity and aimed to bring together different cultural groups with dance, music and food.

This story has been corrected to show that Manhattan's St. Patrick's Day Parade began allowing LGBTQ+ groups to march under their own banners in 2015, not 2014, and that the new Staten Island parade allowing such contingents is set to happen Sunday, rather than having happened in February. The story has been edited to clarify that Timoney is USA CEO for Heineken.

Cruise Ship Rescues 14 People Stranded at Sea for 8 Days as Passengers Look on in 'Shock': WATCH

'We could see in the waves a tiny boat," passenger Alessandra Amodio tells PEOPLE of the incident that happened aboard the Icon of the Seas on Sunday

biggest yacht shows

A cruise ship’s voyage to Mexico and the Bahamas turned into a rescue mission when the boat spotted a small vessel in the waves.

On Sunday, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas , the new world's largest cruise ship that launched in January, rescued 14 people who had been stranded at sea for over a week.

Icon passenger Alessandra Amodio told PEOPLE that the cruise ship was in the midst of an eight-day Caribbean itinerary when they spotted the individuals.

"I was in the lunch buffet with my family when we heard a coded announcement over the loud speakers," Amodio told PEOPLE, adding that the announcement came at around 3 p.m. local time. "A few minutes later people started gathering at the windows and then the captain came on and announced that they had found a distressed vessel and we would be turning around to investigate. We all rushed to the windows and in the nearish distance we could see in the waves a tiny boat waving either a large white flag or sheet."

Shortly after, the ship turned around and pulled up next to the boat and "deployed a small zodiac-type rescue boat," she recalls.

@alessandra_rosee/ LOCAL NEWS X/ TMX

"Eventually we saw Royal Caribbean crew helping about two people from the distressed boat onto the rescue boat before returning to the vessel. They then made a few more trips to safely bring everyone on board."

According to Amodio, they later found out that the passengers on the small boat had been "lost at sea for eight days."

Royal Caribibean

"We got a final announcement once they were all on board safely telling us there was 14 people on board," she said, adding that passengers clapped and cheered upon hearing everyone had been rescued safely.

"Our first reaction was shock, I’ve been on six or so cruises and I’ve never experienced anything even close to this," Amodio continued. "During the rescue everyone was more shocked and the general consensus was that this wasn’t something anyone ever thought would be happening. It was crazy to see, even knowing where they were in the water, once they dropped the flag, they were hard to spot. Just seeing this small boat you knew was filled with people surrounded by the vastness of the water was enough to freak you out. "

Royal Caribbean

The ship was on its first full day of sailing and it was between Cozumel, Mexico and western Cuba when the incident happened.

"We weren’t told by the captain or crew what happened to them," Amodio added of the rescued individuals.

The cruise liner, which departed from Miami, Florida, was headed to Roatán, Honduras, and Royal Caribbean's private Bahamian island, CocoCay, during its voyage.

Royal Caribbean told PEOPLE in a statement, "On March 3, 2024, Icon of the Seas encountered a small vessel adrift and in need of assistance. The ship's crew immediately launched a rescue operation, safely bringing 14 people onboard. The crew provided them with medical attention, and is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard."

A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson told Newsweek that the rescue occurred in Mexico's search-and-rescue area of responsibility.

The Icon of the Seas made its maiden voyage out of South Florida in late January. The ship departed from Port Miami and docked at ports including Puerto Costa Maya in Mexico, Basseterre in St. Kitts & Nevis and Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas.

Along with the world’s largest pool and water park at sea, Icon also boasts eight "neighborhoods" to explore and an open-air "Central Park."

The record-breaking vessel overtook Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas , which formerly held the title of largest cruise ship in the world.
