All year round I offer a number of gracefully lined, classical ships on my wharf. You are probably familiar with those Scandinavian designs and extraordinary sailing capacities.

All ships are thoroughly refitted and in great condition. Just the sailing, not the worries!

STRAIGHT TO THE WATER

If you buy a ship from me, it’s all ready and set up for sailing. All ships have undergone extensive refit and reparations. The wood has been impregnated, treated and finished off with the correct varnishes.

This makes you save time and maintenance and refit costs. In other words: you can immediately start to enjoy the wind, the water and your sailing beauty!

Most refitting projects are ships of the following classes:

As a sailor and classic boats fanatic I have gained extensive knowledge on the history, craftmanship, maintenance and market value of small to middlesized classic wooden sailing yachts.

This has inspired me to start offering refitted ships, mostly Scandinavian designs such as the Skerry Cruiser, Coastal Cruiser and H-Boat.

Because sailing enthusiasts live all over the world, I publish all the ships that are currently for sale on this website. As of today, I count happy buyers from Germany, France, Spain, Russia and Australia amongst my clients.

Sail Away This Summer: 12ft clinker dinghy

There is nothing as emblematic of classic sail as a humble, beautiful 12ft clinker dinghy. This one is believed to have been built in 1981 and was given a major professional overhaul by the International Boatbuilding Training College Lowestoft in 2014, which included a new rig professionally built for the boat to the plans for the International 12 sailing dinghy rig, and all varnished spruce spars. She’s been kept largely indoors since then to protect the paint and varnish. “She is a fast yet forgiving boat which will turn heads everywhere,” says the broker. She’s the complete package with trailer and cover, ready to go anywhere (by road!) this summer.

Voyage Across The World: ZINNIA

“Designed by Nigel Irens and Ed Burnett and built by Elephant Boatyard and Frank Kemp” are the sort of words that speak of a yacht of great standing, and Zinnia lives up to that expectation, as one of the best regarded yachts of her type; not that she is really of a type. She’s a 30ft (9.1m) gaff cutter, heavily built to the modern wood-epoxy method in 1998, with 11 laminated ring frames obviating the need for any structural bulkheads. There’s some workboat style in Zinnia in the transom-hung rudder, gaff rig, straight-laid deck and tiller steering, but the gaff rig is a modern expression of the type, with a high-aspect ratio and the ability to hang more canvas than a plank-on-frame equivalent. And the interior and finish, with much bronze deck ware in evidence, prove that she’s very much a yacht. Zinnia was built engineless for her first owners, who completed an Atlantic circuit in her. A 20hp Beta was installed in 2003 and Zinnia cruised England’s south coast until 2018 when she was sold to an owner in Maine, USA, where she’s been cruising since, occasionally taking in a regatta. She’s been professionally maintained and well wintered, enjoying the sensible – essential for these waters in the case of the holding tank and radar – upgrades to her equipment listed below. Transom hung rudder and tiller steering. She sleeps four in two cabins, and thanks to the deliberately thick deck and coach roof construction, specifically designed to prevent the penetration of tropical heat, she’s cool and comfortable and insulated.

Sail with the Ghosts of History: WEATHER BIRD

Weather Bird was commissioned for Sara and Gerald Murphy, a high-society American couple whose parties lit up the era on the French Riviera where they settled. The 102ft (31m) wooden, gaff-rigged schooner has welcomed on board some of the most famous names in art, literature, music and poetry, including Cole Porter, Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, Pablo Picasso and Zelda and F Scott Fitzgerald – it’s rumoured that the main characters in Tender is the Night are based on the Murphys. Weather Bird was built by Chantier Navals De Normandie, 1931 to a design overseen by Russian aristocrat Victor Orloff and Frenchman Henri Rambaud. She was given a 17-month rebuild that ended in 2021, leaving her in “wonderful” condition. She sleeps eight guests in four cabins, with further accommodation for five crew.
