Fairplain Yacht Club

Located between Parkersburg and Charleston, the Fairplain Yacht Club is a go to for the Ripley locals.

Don’t walk in expecting an actual yacht club though. The closest body of water that you could get a boat on is roughly 15 miles away. However, there is a boat or two inside this backwoods sports bar that sits on a dirt road.

If you’re anywhere between Charleston and Parkersburg and you’re looking for a great dive bar with a big smoker, you have to check this place out.

The smoked wings were some of the best I’ve ever eaten.

While you’re at it, grab a bottle of whiskey or shine next door at the Appalachian Distillery .

The Fairplain Yacht Club

Although it is on Cedar Lake Rd and called anYacht Club, there is no water in sight lol. However, this restaurant is in the same parking lot as a flea market and The Appalachian Distillery so it’s a great place to spend the whole day... if you want. Three things to do without leaving! They have a nice selection of gourmet burgers and microbrews. We toured the distillery first and the tour guide and master distiller recommended the Bavarian burger and it did not disappoint! Grilled onions and beer cheese on a pretzel bun. Paired it with a Summer Bliss brew and it was perfection! Would love to go back. More

This place looks like a converted cow or chicken shed with a gravel parking lot next to a live stock yard and distillery, but the food and service are excellent. There is plenty of parking and the place was packed. The service was quick and... we didn't have to wait to be seated. The place is clean. There are boats with lights hanging from the ceiling and a pirate/mermaid station where children can have their picture taken. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Usually the service is good, this is a busy place and well staffed. This place has the BEST smoked wings around. I get them everytime and they are always good and consistent. Burgers are good as is the beef tips. Steaks are hit or miss... as far as tenderness. My knocks are: beer is not very cold, drive way into parking lot is eroded and is best suited for trucks. Wait staff are friendly and attentive. Best place in Ripley area. More

The servers were pleasant and welcoming. We had to wait for a seat because most of tables had not been bussed. The food service took some time; it was a bit slow more than 40 minutes to get our food. The server did check on... us to make sure we were okay while waiting for our order. I had the blackened salmon with the salad. The salad was plain with iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers and three rings of red onions. The best thing was the homemade jalapeño ranch dressing. The salmon was cooked exactly how I ordered but the flavors did not go all the way through. I also got to taste the Cajun chicken breast sandwich. The chicken was tender and tasted pretty good with the grilled onions in a Kaiser roll and a great crunchy pickle on the side. The portions for our meals were good. There was a full bar with pool tables as well. Looked like a great hang out place. The bathrooms were clean and had signs up about COVID19 sanitation which was a good for the times. I think I just expected more because of the reviews I saw previously but they had the boat decor to show for it. More

Wife ordered steak dinner, after 15 minutes the waitress informs us they are out of the steak, changed order, I ordered a sub with fries, 15 more minutes waitress shows up and says they are out of sub buns would I like it on a... burger bun, I guess that no longer makes it a sub right? Clearly a poorly managed restaurant. It’s also like a large empty hall with tables and a couple of boats inside by to my knowledge miles from the nearest water. Strange place. More

Arrived at 5pm on a Saturday, party of 5. Only had to wait 5-10 minutes. Driving through the area, found this place online & selected based on reviews. We always try to support local eateries & avoid tourist traps. Unfortunately this is not a place... we would recommend. Pros:plenty of TVs if you like to watch sports while you eat. Easy to find off the interstate. Cons:Out of tortillas so that meant no wraps or quesadillas could be ordered. Burgers were ordered medium & came out very well done. Yuck. Chips had no salt. Fries were probably worth the upcharge. Very disappointed for what we paid. Some wait staff looked friendly & attentive but unfortunately ours was not. Maybe we should have tried their ribs? Won’t be back to find out. :( More

The food was ok not the excellent that was on previous reviews. It seams that people bring their kids here to play with knives like ninja’s while moms drink and text. The waitress had to tell the boy to put the 3 steak knives down.... Kids run around on and off the stage yelling and screeching. Not the greatest place to spend the evening More

Not worth the time. My biggest problem was with the wait staff. Not very friendly or attentive. They weren’t very busy but still didn’t work for a tip. No one seemed happy to be there which affects your dining experience. The food was ok. The... wings were very good. The portion size was good. Honestly food was 4 stars but staff was 1 star. More

Driving from Myrtle to Akron, Ohio. Not much on the way home after you get off the W Virginia turnpike. Used Trip Advisor for the small town of Ripley. 2 places came up. One was the Yacht Club. Less than a mile off 77. Had... a great meal! Best tasting Philly Steak I have ever had. Homemade chips. Ribs were the special and heard from the staff how delicious they are. I definitely would recommend this to travelers! More

Attitude of hostess and bar caused us to walk out. Rude, oblivious, no interest in service or people. Attitude and lack of interested caused us to walk out. And loved the hostess laughing at us as we walked out! Thank you!

We enjoy the Fairplain Yacht Club and it is definitely the go-to place in Jackson County for a good steak. Their steaks are hand-cut and seasoned to perfection. It is the only place that ALWAYS gets my order of a well-done steak perfect every single... time. All of the appetizers are tasty; if you order the bacon cheddar fries, ask them to make your fries extra crispy. Otherwise, they are soggy. The burgers are often dry--they need to use a higher-fat content meat. The rest of the sandwiches and most of the entrees are truly excellent. I try to order something new every time we visit! Wednesday night is Team Trivia and it's always a fun time; try and arrive by 7 p.m. so your kitchen order doesn't take all day. A warning: There are two FYCs, the one before 9 p.m. where you take your grandma for a good meal and the one after 9 p.m. which is a drinking establishment and one must 21 years or older to enter. People in the community tend to confuse the two. More

We were there to celebrate our sisters Bday, we waited over 2hrs on our food & 2in our party had to leave w/out even eating d/t other obligations. We weren’t offered a discount or manager never came out and apologized or anything. Needless to say,... we were obviously forgotten because they were not that busy?!?! Do NOT go here if you are starving or have some where you have to be because you will be waitIng on your food!!! And this isn’t the first time or I’d just let it go, but this place is awful!!! And food is just okay?! My wrap had a lettuce core in it - Yes, the core with all the dirt on it!!! So disappointed- More

An odd sort of place and seems a little out of place considering the name. It had that ‘dive’ feel about it... The food was pretty good, portions were more than adequate. The service was excellent. There’s was a lot of people going out on... the porch to smoke and it was a chilly day, which made for some uncomfortable moments. Eventually we moved away from the door. It’s different for sure... but I think once is enough. More

The Yacht Club isn't on the lake or body of water, but it has a nautical decor theme, and good food and service. We went for lunch, although they have a good dinner menu that you can order from too. They had appetizers, sandwiches, burgers,... salads and entrees. We all ordered sandwiches, which were extremely good, and come with potato chips made fresh in house or fries and onion rings. All enjoyed our meals and service. There is a full bar and a West Virginia Distillery next door, so the Yacht Club offers moonshine mixes and a sampler pack of moonshines. Weekends I take it they have live entertainment Good experience and meal. Would recommend and return to when in town. More

Went there last night. Ordered a grilled chicken breast entree. Very little flavor in spite of BBQ sauce and bacon Could not eat half of the chicken breast. It was too rubbery to chew, could barely cut it with a sharp knife. This had obviously... been pre-cooked and heated WAY too long in a microwave before being served. House salad was a bowl of lettuce, 4 bits of red onion and a handful of prepackaged shredded cheese. Price for this entree was much too high for the quality and portion size. More

Food is good but way to expensive and it takes for freaking ever for your food to come. They never give enough napkins. The ... chairs are uncomfortable. The bathrooms are disgusting and the toilet never flushes. When I am paying the prices they want , Iexpect comfortable chairs especially when Im waiting 15 minutes for my food in the first place. The owner needs to stop being socheap and upgrade the nasty outdated falling apart place.i mean . All that money and can't even get a freaking parking lot thatsgot ya headed straight for the carwash. Freaking all dust potholes and very little gravel to keep the dust down. Get a realparking lot or change the name to Canoe Club or Hillbilly Haven. Read more

What a great place to eat! They serve beer and drinks too! Conveniently located close to the interstate with a big parking ... lot to accommodate my truck and trailer. I?ve also been here on a motorcycle. The food is great with a good selection. Theymake BBQ on the premises instead of buying it frozen. I have food allergies and they have always been able to work with me. The staff is friendly and service was great! I?ve also sent customers here while they were in town. Great food. Greatservice. Sports bar environment? we were at the cattle sale all day so we decided to grab a bite to eat here and it was great food. ... Burgers weren?t frozen and were cooked to perfect medium. Waitress was really nice and attentive (even though they were a bitbusy with the game on). Burgers are HUGE so don?t order a lot of appetizers. “Risk takers!” Review of The Fairplain Yacht Club

Driving from Myrtle to Akron, Ohio. Not much on the way home after you get off the W Virginia turnpike. Used Trip Advisor for the small town of Ripley. 2 places came up. One was the Yacht Club. Less than a mile off 77. Had a great meal! Best tasting Philly Steak I have ever had. Homemade chips. Ribs were the special and heard from the staff how delicious they are. I definitely would recommend this to travelers!

Although it is on Cedar Lake Rd and called anYacht Club, there is no water in sight lol. However, this restaurant is in the same parking lot as a flea market and The Appalachian Distillery so it’s a great place to spend the whole day if you want. Three things to do without leaving! They have a nice selection of gourmet burgers and microbrews. We toured the distillery first and the tour guide and master distiller recommended the Bavarian burger and it did not disappoint! Grilled onions and beer cheese on a pretzel bun. Paired it with a Summer Bliss brew and it was perfection! Would love to go back.

Usually the service is good, this is a busy place and well staffed. This place has the BEST smoked wings around. I get them everytime and they are always good and consistent. Burgers are good as is the beef tips. Steaks are hit or miss as far as tenderness. My knocks are: beer is not very cold, drive way into parking lot is eroded and is best suited for trucks. Wait staff are friendly and attentive. Best place in Ripley area.

This place looks like a converted cow or chicken shed with a gravel parking lot next to a live stock yard and distillery, but the food and service are excellent. There is plenty of parking and the place was packed. The service was quick and we didn't have to wait to be seated. The place is clean. There are boats with lights hanging from the ceiling and a pirate/mermaid station where children can have their picture taken. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent.

We were there to celebrate our sisters Bday, we waited over 2hrs on our food & 2in our party had to leave w/out even eating d/t other obligations. We weren’t offered a discount or manager never came out and apologized or anything. Needless to say, we were obviously forgotten because they were not that busy?!?! Do NOT go here if you are starving or have some where you have to be because you will be waitIng on your food!!! And this isn’t the first time or I’d just let it go, but this place is awful!!! And food is just okay?! My wrap had a lettuce core in it - Yes, the core with all the dirt on it!!! So disappointed-
