BVI sailing vacation

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to rise with the sun as it peeped from the ocean's horizon? To stretch that first stretch and to breathe in the balm of an air that's as fresh as the waves? To tiptoe outside to the sight of the gulls as they glide on the soft trade wind breezes?

Capital of the Grenadines, St. Vincent and the surrounding islands are an incredible cruising area offering lively winds and plain sailing. The dock on the southern tip of St. Vincent offer a beautifully protected harbor, perfectly placed for sailing southwards as well as for inland day trips.

Young Island Cut

Eight nautical miles from St. Vincent, Bequia is an old favorite of sailors. Head for Bequia has several well known scuba-diving points as well as a sea-turtle sanctuary.

Tortola Sailing Catamaran

The tiny island of Bequia has a unique, magical charm which is hard to find anywhere else in the Caribbean. With fewer than six thousand inhabitants, it feels like home from the moment you arrive; friendliness is the watchword, and the pace is relaxed and easy-going. Don't be surprised if you are greeted with a warm hello as you walk along the street - a centuries-old dependence on inter-island shipping and trading has meant that Bequians have been eagerly welcoming visitors to their shores for generations.

The island's enduring seafaring heritage is one of its most striking features. Virtually every Bequia family has some connection to the sea either past or present, and today's fishermen, sailors and boat-builders are quietly proud to share their marine traditions with newcomers to the island.

BVI Sailing Charter

Bequia fulfils many dreams of the perfect small Caribbean island: beautiful sandy beaches where more than ten people may constitute a crowd, lush green hillsides, attractive little villages, intimate, well run hotels and guest houses, hardly any traffic, places to get together and places in which to find that perfect solitude. Variety and choice on so small an island may come as a surprise - but there are both wherever one turns.

Choose a holiday of total beach relaxation or exhilarating sailing and diving in some of the most beautiful waters in the world. Get to know the island on foot, or hire a car and discover so much more than just the golden beaches; take day or overnight trips to neighboring isles or simply fill up another perfect day doing what is increasingly necessary to unwind - nothing!

A choice of nightlife too awaits you - gourmet international cuisine, or delicious local cooking; elegant cocktails or sundowners in a local bar; a lively jump up to steel band music or a wonderfully romantic candlelit dinner far away from it all.

BVI sailing vacation

And then of course there are the warm tropical nights, with an orchestra of singing cicadas and gently murmuring surf, and the brilliance of the star-studded sky which tells you, if you didn't already know, this is where you have always wanted to be.

Exploring the neighboring Grenadine islands as part of a vacation in Bequia is a must - a trip to the fabulous Tobago Cays will be unforgettable, as will a visit to the island of Mustique to rub shoulders with the rich and famous.

Or take a trip to the nearby deserted island of Isle de Quatre for the perfect Caribbean dream day, with picnic and swimming and the whole island to yourself....

sailing vacation

Longer term charters using Bequia as a base, are becoming increasingly popular as more visitors discover the delights of sailing in the Grenadines. A professional crew will take you wherever you want to go, pamper you with mouth-watering cuisine and on-board comfort, while you lie back and enjoy the unique pleasure of discovering the Grenadines islands under sail.

Set in the middle of the Grenadine archipelago, Canouan is an island of only 3.2 square miles.

catamaran charter

Charlestown Bay (also known as Grand Bay) is the main anchorage and location of the village. Enter between the red and green markers. Marcus rents moorings for US$15 (contact him on VHF16 or through Tamarind Beach Hotel ). There is a ferry dock in the bay and a dinghy dock off the Tamarind Beach Hotel . Rameau Bay , just north of Charlestown , is a gorgeous, quiet anchorage but may require two anchors - good snorkeling around the rocks. Further north is Corbay , the most sheltered anchorage and a great location for snorkeling or diving. There is a glorious beach at Maho Bay in the north and Friendship Bay in the south also offers good snorkeling.

Mayreau lies west of the Tobago Cays. It is the smallest (1 1/2 square miles) of the inhabited Grenadine islands, with a population of two hundred and fifty-four people. Mayreau is accessible only by boat. The island is rimmed by magnificent sweeping white sandy beaches perfect for sailing and snorkeling.

BVI Tourism

Hike along the trail from Salt Whistle Bay up to the quaint little village, with friendly bars, local restaurants, and a lovely Catholic church which offers a panoramic view of the Tobago Cays. From Saline Bay a road also leads to the village or across the southern part of the island to the salt pond where you can collect rock salt in the dry season, or continue on to explore the pristine beaches.

BVI catamaran vacation

Mayreau is rimmed by magnificent virgin beaches. Saline Bay in the south, with its nearly mile long white sandy beach is very popular with visitors. As you approach Saline Bay from the north, keep well seaward of the buoy that marks the edge of the reef.

There are two dingy docks and a few moorings for rent. Check the quality and the price before settling for them. Salt Whistle Bay is the favorite of many sailors, scoring high points for calmness. Enter through a central channel because of the reefs on either side, the southern one being particularly dangerous. Anchor in the clear sandy areas. It is also possible to anchor on the windward side of Mayreau, approaching from the south. There are many reefs east of Mayreau so travel in good light and study the charts carefully.

Tobago Cays

The huge Horseshoe Reef that protects these five deserted islets, with their dazzling, palm-studded shorelines, provides some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. The brilliant powdery, white sand, the colored waters shaded in unimaginable blues and the neon marine life beneath give true meaning to the "stop-the-world-l-want-to-get-off'

The Cays have been declared a wildlife reserve by the government and all visitors are urged to preserve and protect this unique natural resource. No fishing, jet skis, or anchoring of dinghies allowed. Make your own contribution to the efforts by disposing properly of your debris, including the charcoal and remainders of your beach barbecue. Local youths may offer to remove your garbage for a fee but avoid this temptation, as some are known to dump it without care.

Petit Rameau features a beach on the south side of the cay, as does Barabel, which lies southeast of Petit Rameau. Petit Bateau provides visitors a shaded beach to the north and another beach on its east side. This easterly beach is the best choice for beginning snorkelers as it has calm shallow water. More experienced snorkelers will be delighted by the waters surrounding Horseshoe Reef, but may find it occasionally choppy.

When approaching these islands, well aided by black and white day markers, be careful not to cut corners as you may end up on a coral head. Anchor in the cut between Petit Rameau and Petit Bateau with bow and stem anchors, as the current is strong.

The smallest and southernmost cay, Jamesby , features on its eastern side one of the best beaches of the group. Petit Tabac where Johnny Depp was marooned as Sparrow in Disney's blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl", is the most inaccessible with a narrow entrance at the southwestern tip. This crescent shaped islet is covered in coconut trees planted by the late John Caldwell (a.k.a. Johnny Coconut), formerly of Palm Island and his efforts have been continued by Glenroy Adams of Grenadines Dive , a devoted conservationist and a good choice for scuba diving in the area.

Palm Island

This tiny resort island is just a mile from Union Island, where you are met by the resort's private boat and transported to this 135-acre tropical oasis of unhurried rest and stress free relaxation. Originally known as Prune Island, Palm got its current name when former owners, the late John Caldwell (a.k.a Johnny Coconuts) and his wife Mary, planted hundreds of coconut palms, transforming the deserted island into a palm covered resort Now a private all-inclusive resort where tranquility reigns.

Palm Island is the perfect getaway for people who love natural beauty and want to escape from it all. Surrounded by crystal clear waters and five sparkling white beaches, one of the favorites being Casuarina Beach , which runs the entire length of the western coastline.

Forty beautifully appointed guest rooms, all with incredible views are sprinkled around the island. Sunset Restaurant and Bar is open to nonresident guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner (closed to non-residents September - October). Royal Palm accepts outsiders for lunch and dinner but reservations are essential. There is a strict "smart but casual" dress code (no swim wear allowed).

Hotel facilities (pool, water sports, beach chairs, bicycles, etc.) are strictly for resident guests only. Outsiders are allowed to visit, but must make prior arrangements with the hotel and the "private" signs must be adhered to. Visitors should check at the main office or call VHF 16.

Petit St. Vincent

Petit St. Vincent, or PSV, as it is often called, is one of the world's most enchanting hideaways. Over its varied terrain (113-acres) twenty-two private cottages are scattered some on hillsides, some set into the sides of cliffs, some right on the beach - all absolutely heavenly. For most people the appeal of PSV is what it "does not have"- no telephones or television, no air-conditioning, no casinos or cabarets. Not even room keys.

Union Island

Clifton Harbor is a small, busy port and the centre of the day- chartering industry. When arriving from the south, stay well-clear of Grand de Coi . If approaching from the north be sure to avoid Newlands Reef which protects the harbor. The Anchorage Yacht Club offers dockage, water, ice, electricity, showers, a laundry service and free collection of your garbage bags.

Snorkelers will find good conditions on Lagoon Reef , which protects most of the southern coast of the island, especially around Frigate Island, just offshore from Ashton.v.

Sun, sea and sand lovers will enjoy Chatham Bay on the west coast (it is also a protected anchorage) and Bloody Bay , on the northwest coast, with its captivating view and long sandy beach, Big Sands is a crescent-shaped beach on the east coast and is ideal for surfing. Richmond Bay on the North Coast, is shallow and great for children (beware of the poisonous manchineel trees - the fruit and leaves will blister if touched).

Remember, that sailing motto: 'Take only photos, leave only wake' (OK, so we paraphrased). To be a responsible sailor, remember:

  • Don’t disturb coral or sealife
  • Take your trash home (and don’t throw anything in the sea)
  • Respect the locals and their customs wherever you go

Have Fun On A Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent

Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

A Catamaran Adventure In St Vincent

After our adventure to see the underwater sculptures in Grenada , we arrived in Kingstown port in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We planned to do a catamaran adventure in St. Vincent but originally were wait-listed for this excursion. We had plan B and C in our pockets but were glad when we were taken off the wait list.

The large Azura cruise ship arrived in port ahead of us again. This was not the only port we had shared with this ship. We were glad we had a pre-booked excursion and would not have to jostle with a very large ship for tours on the dock.

It was raining when we arrived and the forecast for the day called for more rain. We got lucky on our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent to only have a bit of rain during the transit to Bequia Island. With the sails out it was more than an hour each way. Hardy passengers stayed on the bow and took the waves and rain. The rest of us huddled under the large covered area.

Catamaran Weather - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

On the way back the sun was shining and we enjoyed the fast sail. The actual sailing part of our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent was a great part of the fun for the day.

An Interesting Stop At Moonhole

The first stop when we reached Bequia Island was the Moonhole. This was a massive arch formed in volcanic rock through which the setting moon was sometimes visible. Beside the Moonhole we found houses that seemed set into the rock.

Moonhole Bequia Island - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

The catamaran transited along the coast for great views of the rocky shore. When we looked down, the water was clear and blue.

Back Underwater To Snorkel Off Bequia Island

When we reached the sandy bay, the ship was brought close to shore. The front stairs lowered into the water. It was an easy way to get onto the shore when a dock was not available.

We had two hours before the boat would return to pick us up. We dropped our stuff on the rocks, donned our snorkel gear and headed into the waves for an hour.

Snorkelling Bequia Island - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

As we swam along the shore, the view underwater got better as we moved away from the beach. There were lots of colourful coral. David found his favourite Christmas tree worms and another interesting worm. Hiding under the rocks were a group of lobsters.

There were also lots of fish. While most swam in small groups, when we went close to the rock wall we found a very large group of fish swaying in the tide. Slithering on the bottom we found eels. And a bright orange star fish.

Snorkelling Bequia Island - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

It was a great spot to snorkel on our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent. We had our first tease underwater when we snorkelled in Bonaire . In Grenada we saw interesting underwater statues . This was another great underwater adventure before we scuba dived in St. Lucia . We were certainly glad we had packed an extra bag with underwater gear on our cruise to the Southern Caribbean .

Lunch With A Punch

Once back on the boat we had a great hot lunch. With the lunch there was punch – with or without rum. It was a 84.5% rum (169 proof) and packed a punch.

The rum punch certainly put a rosy glow on our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent!

Finishing Up Our St. Vincent Island In Port Elizabeth

There was one final stop on Bequia Island on our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent. The boat pulled up to the bay at Port Elizabeth. The bay was full of boats at anchor in the quiet waters.

Port Elizabeth Bequia Island - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

Again we were left to go down the front stairs. We had about 45 minutes to wander this small town. We found small shops and restaurants as we walked through the town. It was here that we learned that Bequia was called the “island of clouds”. We certainly didn’t see many clouds when we visited.

Port Elizabeth Bequia Island - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

We set sail from Port Elizabeth and headed back across the channel to Kingstown in St. Vincent.

A Great Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent

We enjoyed our catamaran adventure in St. Vincent on our cruise to the Southern Caribbean . We normally do not like the booze boat catamaran excursions, but this one was very good. The staff were great fun and made sure we enjoyed our day.

Catamaran Captain - Catamaran Adventure In St. Vincent.jpg

Sailing on the catamaran was a great way to see a little more of the islands from another perspective. And the trip out to Bequia Island for snorkelling provided the underwater experience we wanted. We could not wait to arrive for a week in St. Lucia and head underwater to scuba dive .

Have you tried a catamaran adventure in St. Vincent? Did you get to snorkel at Bequia Island?

Zen Yachts

The ZEN50 is a game changer. World’s first series production catamaran equipped with a wingsail, it defines a new distinctive class of its own, where genuine zero-emission meets high comfort and performance, limitlessly.

Designed from scratch for ZEN Yachts by award-winning naval architect Julien Mélot , this full carbon catamaran is the ultimate essence of technology driven, high performance and luxurious, eco-friendly leisure yachting.

The blue water capable ZEN50 lightweight racing carbon hulls are combined with a huge solar roof for an unrivaled solar power vs. displacement ratio above 1:1 (18 kW / 17 tonnes), making this yacht completely energy self-sufficient. A revolutionary, fully automated, wingsail - by Ayro© - can be added as a range and speed extender. The yacht’s high capacity battery bank powers a powerful silent electric propulsion, allowing the ZEN50 to achieve 14 knots and maintain high continuous speeds in unrivaled safety and comfort, indefinitely…

The ZEN50 is offered with or without wingsail and comes in 3 main different versions: Racer, Cruiser and Explorer, each dedicated to a different usage and owner profile. We use these versions as a basis to define a final, bespoke specification for each of our valued clients and ZEN Community Members. Scroll down for more details, specifications and prices.

1st WINGSAIL series production yacht in the world!

The OceanWings32 - by Ayro© - was initially developed for Team Oracle, for the America’s Cup 2010 in Valencia. Over years, it has further been developed and automated by VPLP and was installed on Energy Observer in 2019. Two years of field feedback have allowed the Ayro team to fine tune the algorithm commanding the wingsail. The ZEN50 is the first series production leisure craft to be equipped with this fully automated wingsail. It is controlled at the touch of a finger on screens, is automatically adjusted and has several safety modes and features. The two parts of the wingsail can be hoisted and lowered independently and with the simple touch of a button. The wingsail OceanWings32 is the ideal complement for the solar roof for those wishing to cruise long distances off-shore with zero-emissions.

Greatest ratio SOLAR POWER / weight on the market

At 17 tonnes lightweight and 18,000 W of peak solar power, the ratio of the ZEN50 is at over 1 kW per displaced tonne of water or beyond 1:1 which is far beyond any other blue water CE Cat A yacht in this size range. Lots of solar power for little water to displace is the strong and healthy foundation the energy self-sufficient ZEN50 is built upon.

Performance CARBON sandwich hulls

The hulls of the ZEN50 have been designed from a blank screen for ultimate efficiency - understand minimum drag or minimal energy consumption for a range of speeds from 6 to 10 knots. Their shape is aggressive, sharp and slender. Their reverse bows cut through water like a sword cuts through butter and their curvature is reminiscent of graceful dolphin bodies. These hulls are undoubtedly of the performance type and are built with the best available composites: Carbon fibre and Corecell™. The combination of high strength, low weight and performance design allow the ZEN50 to reach speeds of up to 14 knots.

ZEN50 wingsail and solar powered performance zero emission electric catamaran yacht by ZEN Yachts

INFINITE range at high CONTINUOUS speeds

With maximized solar and wind power and minimized energy consumption… the ZEN50 can sail continuously at speeds varying between 6 and 10 knots. Thorough simulations in various sea states and weather system have consistently shown the ZEN50 will be able to achieve performance catamaran speeds continuously without using a genset. With the ZEN50, the world is your oyster and the wildest destinations are within your reach with this self-reliant vessel!

ZEN50 wingsail and solar powered performance zero emission electric catamaran yacht by ZEN Yachts

True ZERO-EMISSION operation

The first ZEN50 unit, whose construction started in March 2023, will not be equipped with a genset at all and will not have any fossil fuels onboard. The ZEN50 energy system with its very large capacity 160 kWh battery bank, has been designed to function for days in complete safety with minimal solar energy harvest and no wind. It is perfectly safe with no backup genset and operates 24/7 without any polluting emissions.

NO FUEL , no costs

Naturally, requiring no fuel to operate day in day out is great news for the environment, it is also fantastic news when sailing into remote areas where fuel bunkering might be near impossible or where the fuel quality might be an issue. Finally, it also makes a massive difference in this yacht’s costs of operation. Imagine the hundreds of liters of diesel saved over just a week, the obsolete engine maintenance schedules, the clogged filters and dirty tanks from another age… Welcome to a new burden-free, energy self-sufficient era, welcome to clean and graceful eco-yachting, welcome to ZEN Yachts.

catamarano vincent

Highest SAFETY & reliability

At ZEN Yachts, we have made some design choices to attain energy self-reliance with the ZEN50 that reduces the habitable volume in the hulls, similar to performance catamarans. Where we have not and will never compromise is on safety. Our main voltage system is 48V making it perfectly safe to work on. The level of redundancy of the batteries and solar panels is 10! The main electrical architecture is split in 2 so that should anything happen on 1 hull, the entire vessel can still operate normally. There are 2 independent helm stations and the ZEN50 is packed with special safety features, nonsubmersible compartments and we can even offer an in-depth practical course on safety equipment usage and management. Sailing with the ZEN50 is not only exhilarating and clean, it is ultra safe!

catamarano vincent

Unrivaled space & COMFORT

The ZEN50 offers the speeds of a performance catamaran, the comfort of a large motor yacht and the simplicity of an electric car. No less than 2 large day beds, 3 dining areas for over 10 people, 1 professional galley and 2 wet kitchens, 5 heads, up to 4 double ensuite cabins, 1 bunk double and 1 single together with both saloon and dining areas converting into extra sleeping areas, this is simply unrivaled on a 50 ft. catamaran. Add an electric tender, dive compressor, satellite internet, 2 helm stations (cockpit and flybridge), a solar roof that converts into a gigantic upper deck to enjoy the most epic sunrises and sunsets, welcome onboard the ZEN50!

By Heather Chen , Andrew Raine , Catherine Nicholls, Antoinette Radford, Maureen Chowdhury and Kathleen Magramo , CNN

Here's what we know about the four suspects in the Moscow concert hall attack

From CNN’s Masha Angelova and Josh Pennington

Suspects in the shooting attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue, from left: Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, and Muhammadsobir Fayzov.

Each of the four defendants charged with committing a terrorist act in the Crocus City concert hall attack was brought to court individually in Moscow on Sunday.

They are accused of committing a crime under part 3, provision “b” of article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terrorist act), which the Russian Criminal Code states is punishable with up to life imprisonment.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS .

Here's what we know about the accused:

  • Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev: The 32-year-old was the first defendant brought to court. Mirzoyev, from Tajikistan, had a temporary registration for three months in the southern Russian city of Novosibirsk in Siberia, but it expired, according to RIA Novosti.
  • Saidakrami Rachabalizoda: He appeared as the second defendant, and told the the court that he had Russian registration documents but couldn't remember where they were. He communicated through an interpreter, according to state media RIA Novosti. Rachabalizoda was reportedly born in 1994.
  • Shamsidin Fariduni: He was born in 1998 in Tajikistan and is a citizen of the Central Asian country. Fariduni was officially employed at a factory in the Russian city of Podolsk and was registered in the city of Krasnogorsk, according to state media RIA Novosti.
  • Muhammadsober Faizov: The fourth defendant appeared nonresponsive in a wheelchair and was accompanied by a doctor to his court appearance, as seen in Moscow City Court’s video shared on Telegram. Faizov was temporarily unemployed, before which he worked in a barber shop in Ivanovo, a city northeast of Moscow, and is registered in that city, according to state media RIA Novosti. He was reportedly born in 2004.

This post has been updated with more information on the charges against the suspects.

Moscow court orders preventive detention for all four defendants in concert hall attack case

A suspect is escorted before a court hearing at the Basmanny district court in Moscow, Russia March 24.

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow on Sunday granted the investigators’ motion for detention, as the chosen preventative measure, for all four defendants in the Crocus City Hall attack case.

All four men have been remanded into pre-trial detention until May 22, stated Moscow City Court via Telegram.

They are all charged with committing a terrorist act, according to the courts of general jurisdiction of the city of Moscow, which under the Russian Criminal Code is punishable up to life imprisonment.

Each of the four defendants was brought to court individually on Sunday.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS.

The names of the four accused in the case are Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, Moscow City Courts announced via Telegram.

All four are from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic, and have been in Russia on either temporary or expired visas.

The court held closed hearings for each of the accused with no members of the public allowed, TASS reported, citing the court’s press service.

2 defendants identified in Crocus City Hall attack

From CNN’s Masha Angelova, Michael Bodenhorst and Josh Pennington

The first defendant in the Crocus City concert hall attack case, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, has pleaded guilty on all counts, the press service of Moscow City Court told state media RIA Novosti.

He will be held in preventive custody at least through May 22.

Mirzoyev is one of two defendants implicated in the attack who are facing possible life imprisonment, as reported by state media.

The suspects — Mirzoyev and Saidakrami Rachabalizoda — appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday on charges related to the attack.

Both individuals are accused of committing a terrorist act and could be sentenced to life imprisonment, according to state media outlet RIA Novosti. The prosecution has requested detention as a precautionary measure for both defendants.

Authorities have petitioned the court to conduct Mirzoyev's hearing behind closed doors to safeguard the integrity of the proceedings, state media news agency TASS reported.

Emergency services are seen on the scene of the deadly 2017 metro blast in St. Petersburg.

The attack on Moscow's popular Crocus City Hall that left at least 133 dead has become the deadliest attack in Russia since the Beslan school siege in 2004.

Some other recent attacks include:

  • September 26, 2022 : Eleven children and four adults were killed when a gunman wearing Nazi symbols opened fire at a school in the western Russian city of Izhevsk. The shooter, who was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt with Nazi insignia and a helmet, died by suicide following the attack.
  • April 3, 2017 : At least 11 people were killed in a blast on the St. Petersburg metro. The explosion tore through a train as it was traveling between two stations in Russia’s second-largest city.
  • October 31, 2015 : A Russian passenger jet, Metrojet Flight 9268 crashed  on October 31 after departing from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh,  killing all 224 people  on board. US intelligence analysis suggested that ISIS or its affiliates  planted a bomb on the plane .
  • December 30, 2013 : A massive explosion at a train station in the Russian city of Volgograd killed at least 16 people, including one police officer, the Investigative Committee of Russia said.
  • January 25, 2011 : A suicide bomber attacked Domodedovo Airport , Moscow's busiest airport, killing 35 people and wounding about 100, authorities and state television said.
  • March 29, 2010 : Two explosions rocked the subway stations in central  Moscow during rush hour, killing at least 38 people and wounding more than 60 others, spawning widespread public outrage. A website associated with Chechen separatists, who have long fought for independence from Russia, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Rescuers, robotic systems and canine teams are currently on site of Crocus City concert hall

From CNN’s Darya Tarasova and Eve Brennan

More than 300 “specialists” and 154 pieces of equipment are currently on site at the Crocus City concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow region, where a deadly attack took place Friday , Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Telegram on Sunday.

The ministry said more than 400 cubic meters of structures had been dismantled by rescuers while specialized robotic systems, canine teams and psychologists from the ministry continue to work.

More than 1,600 calls have already been received on the department’s hotline, the ministry added.

The post was accompanied by a video showing dozens of emergency workers digging through the rubble of the partially burned-down concert hall.

Remember : At least 137 people died on Friday after attackers opened fire on civilians at the Crocus City concert hall, and set the building ablaze. The Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, has claimed the attack and  released graphic footage  purporting to show the incident.

Putin lit a candle in memory of victims of the concert hall attack

From CNN's Eve Brennan and Anna Chernova

In this photo from the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin lights a candle in memory of victims of the Crocus City Hall attack, at the Novo-Ogaryovo residence in the Moscow region, on March 24.

Russian President Vladimir Putin lit a candle Sunday in memory of victims of the deadly attack at the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow region on Friday.

Putin also expressed deep condolences following the Moscow shooting, calling it a "barbaric terrorist act" in a video statement released Saturday.

More background: The deadly attack comes barely a week after Putin secured his fifth presidential term. The large-scale attack is damaging for a leader who portrays himself as someone able to guarantee order.

Death toll in concert hall attack rises to 137 — including 3 children, Russian Investigative Committee says

From CNN's Darya Tarasova

The Russian Investigative Committee has updated the death toll in the Crocus City attack to 137.

In a statement released online, the committee said "the bodies of 137 people have been found at the site of the terrorist attack, three of which are children."

The committee added that 62 bodies have been identified so far.

"For the remaining victims, genetic examinations are being carried out to establish their identities," the statement said. "The investigation of the crime scene continues."

Russian Embassy in US says it did not receive notification of impending terrorist attack

From CNN’s Katya Krebs in Moscow and Eve Brennan in London

The Russian flag flies in front of the country's embassy in Washington, DC, on February 16.

The Russian Embassy in Washington says it did not receive any warnings about a potential terror attack in Moscow from the US, Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on Sunday.

The US diplomatic mission had warned Americans to “avoid large gatherings” at the beginning of March due to reports “that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow.”

Earlier this week Putin had dismissed those warnings, telling the FSB that the embassy warnings were "provocative" and "outright blackmail."

“We did not receive any notifications or messages in advance,” Antonov told RIA.

“We paid attention to this, but,… I had no contacts with either the White House or the State Department on this issue,” he added.

In light of Friday’s attack at Crocus, Antonov told RIA Novosti that contacts between the US and the Russian Federation in the fight against terrorism have been “destroyed,” adding that the fault was not Moscow’s.

“I always reminded the Americans that our president was the first who, in 2001, extended his hand to the Americans and declared his readiness to provide help. And something worked, it worked... and it’s not our fault that all of this has been destroyed today,” he said.
