Go for:  outdoor seating, good pub grub, parties and events

Mid City Yacht Club — MCYC, for short — is a neighborhood pub, a good dining destination, and a sports bar all in one spot. Located in the heart of Mid City, just behind home plate at the storied St. Patrick playground, MCYC opened just after Hurricane Katrina. The bar was rebuilt with reclaimed wood from local homes and business.

And today, MCYC is a favorite spot for people in Mid City, Lakeview, Metairie, Gentilly, and beyond.

Enter the bar from St. Patrick Street, and walk into a room that sets just the right tone. It is comforting and feels instantly familiar: dark woods on the walls, and atop bar, small high-top tables aside one set of windows, old maps of fishing grounds that surround our city along the other, and then? There’s the outside; you gotta see this.

The backyard patio is surrounded by a well-built fence which helps the space function as another large room. Good thing, too because the weather in Nola permits outdoor drinking and dining most months in the year.

Book a private or semi-private event in their Boat House or on the Courtyard. Join one of the many leagues that play year round at St. Patrick’s park (kickball, softball, dodgeball). Come for beer specials, frozen cocktails, and great pub grub.

The menu here includes one of my favorites — roast beef debris sliders. It also features garlic fries, a delicious pork green chili bowl, and Yachtchos (one of their most popular items). This is an order of house fried tortilla chips, topped with homemade cheese sauce, veggie black beans, jalapeño, fresh habanero crema, pico de gallo and green onions. Wanna kick it up a notch? Add spicy crumbled chorizo, shredded pork, or some of that beef debris. This is a great dish to share.

I like coming here before late afternoon Saints games. It’s also known as the home of the Cajun Buckeyes. That’s the Alumni / Fan Club chapter for The Ohio State University (but, hey … everyone’s friends here, don’t hold that against them).

Since MCYC opened it’s turned into The Cheers of the neighborhood. Owned and managed by folks who live within walking distance, staffed by a good team who pitches in to keep the area safe, and community minded. This is a good place to come if you want to have a business lunch because the courtyard is so accommodating, it’s a great place for happy hour drinks, and one of our go to spots on a weekend afternoon. – scott mccrossen

Ratings and reviews

Location and contact.

support local business during covid. this place has stellar food, and Kelly is a great hostess. We had a burger with bacon and bleu cheese. OMGoddess, and Meatloaf special. That came with killer green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. Huge portion! The garlic and... parm french fries were lovely and I got a beer while we waited for the food. lots of great things on the menu here. crab cakes, chicken, chili, and daily specials. outdoor seating in the back, and out front. Hand sanitizer on the counter, plenty of signage and great service. Thank you for becoming a new hot spot for me. More

We came to the yacht club to view a Penn State football game. The place was packed but the food was delicious. We had crab balls, beef sliders and a bucket of beer. There were lots of TV's. They really needed another bartender because it... took a while to get waited on but I would definitely recommend trying it. More

Never been here but just now wathced There People Filling Sandbags for The people in their neighbor hood to help their neighbors try to keep out water from storm flooding. I just heard someone wanting to Pay them and They said No Thank you Not... Necessary Take what you need. Great Community Service.. More

Hidden in a mid city neighborhood... well worth seeking out. Sat in the back court yard. Great beer selection on tap, delicious fried cat fish sandwich and the Tuna sandwich were awesome.

My gf and I went to grab some food after visiting the Ww2 museum. Was in there maybe 10 mins and never even noticed.

I love this place. The crawfish cheese fries are to die for. Drinks are great and the bartenders are always friendly! This is a great place for friends to gather and have a good time together. Very well liked with the locals.

We were invited by some friends to meet there for drinks. After hanging for a while we all ordered some burgers and debris fries! All of the food was very very good. The service is you go to the bar and order and the bartenders... bring your food to your table. Don't really expect table service. It's a bar it's what I expected, but even better! More

At a bar, you expect Bar food, right? Mid City Yacht Club has that and so much more. They do a Shrimp taco, but it is topped with pulled pork barbecue. Who knew of such a combination?! Also, their teriyaki vegetable dish, is just unbelievable.... But to make it truly exceptional, the bartenders make many of their own house liqueurs that make you wonder why others don't do this, but the truth is, they just don't. you will need to make the drive to experience this. Very casual. Just a little off the beaten path. Go there to try something new. More

We loved the place. Bartenders fun, good juke box. Great crawfish seasonal. And Burger was awesome. Wonder large courtyard with a few games and TVs for basketball

This place is a great place to go if you want to drink outside and get some great food. They have a nice patio with misters for the summer and heaters in the winter. They do buckets too which we usually get.

Mid city Yacht Club is a hidden gem! Recently, a friend and I went to this establishment, and, were more than pleasantly surprised! Drinks, service, atmosphere all terrific! But, the food was the real surprise! Pork chops, tender perfect, and, fried! Sweet potatoes accompanied this... special! My friend had a fish sandwich, which was simply delicious and expertly prepared! Anytime is a good time here!!!! More

Went here while in NOLA for the Cajun Buckeye football watch. Good time with local and visiting Buckeyes. Friendly staff. Food was pretty good and selection of beers and drinks was good. Small neighborhood type pub with indoor and outdoor seating.

Still looking for the water around this land locked yacht club, but while looking, did have some great beers that were on tap and in bottles, and their burgers are excellent. I had the bacon cheese burger, which in itself is a lot, then made... the mistake of ordering fries as well - I think they serve an entire farms worth of fries, enough to feed 3-4 people. other party in the group had their specialty burger, which is the bacon cheese burger but served on 6 grilled shrimp - which were huge. they were unable to finish. a couple of others had veggie burgers and swore they were the best ever - now, i'm no veggie burger fan, but these people are, so that is high compliments. best thing was they have indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor has fans and misters blowing, but they also have an outdoor private room if you have a large group, and they are happy to have you ale in and use it. will definitely return. More

Had a great burger and our small group was allowed the carriage house all to ourselves. Outdoors has fans and picnic tables, the bar has some games and ample space too. Lots of sports on TV, dog friendly too. Friendly locals. Can't wait to return.

Named ironically because of the flooding in the neighborhood during Hurricane Katrina. Like other bars in town this one has a menu of inventive and delicious food. Try the Yacht Club burger, a burger piled high with fresh medium shrimp, a taste treat.

The Cool Brees from The Mid-City Yacht Club

A cute corner tavern that hosts a potluck contest during every Saints game, The Mid-City Yacht Club has been serving a Drew Brees tribute drink all season. The Cool Brees is an iced adult beverage made with CoolBrew, the local coffee and chicory concentrate. It's been very popular.

If you can't get CoolBrew concentrate, advised MJ Sauer, one of the bar's co-owners, make a pot of double-strength chicory coffee and chill it.

1 shot CoolBrew Original flavor coffee concentrate

1 shot Jameson Irish whiskey

1 shot Frangelico hazelnut liqueur

1/2 shot Godiva chocolate liqueur

Pour coffee, whiskey and liqueurs in a shaker over ice. Top off with milk. Shake well and pour into a glass.

Serve and start the Who Dat chant.
