Couach Yachts

Located off the Bay of Biscay in southern France, Chantier Naval Couach builds semi-custom luxury yachts from 13.65 to 50 metres in exotic composite materials.

History of Couach Yachts

In 1897, Albert Couach founded a shipyard on Arcachon Bay and pioneered the manufacture of early marine engines. In 1946, his grandson, Guy Couach, joined the yard and began building well-received commercial and military boats. In 1962, he renamed the company Guy Couach Shipyard, and focused on building performance boats and luxury yachts in advanced composites. In 1970, the shipyard launched Aramat , one of the earliest yachts built with Kevlar composite.

The shipyard changed hands several times over the years, re-launching as Chantier Naval Couach in 2009 with the goal of entering the superyacht sector of the industry. The local industrial investor group Nepteam acquired the shipyard, informally known as Couach Yachts, in 2011.

Notable Couach Superyachts

Couach knew it had a hit on their hands with the 2007 launch of their 37-metre 3700 Fly model – five were ordered before the first hull hit the water. Featuring a Kevlar/carbon fibre/GRP composite hull and powered by twin MTU 12V 4000 M90 diesels, it provides a top speed of 28 knots, cruising speed of 25 knots, and a range of 700 nautical miles at 20 knots.

The shipyard’s flagship, the 50-metre Couach 5000 Fly La Pellegrina , debuted in 2012. Built to MCA standards, the sleek, contemporary superyacht also features a hull that incorporates Kevlar and carbon fibre. Accommodating 12 guests in six suites, including an upper-deck master, she has a maximum speed of 28 knots, thanks to her fast hull and 16V 4000 M93 MTU engines.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

coach yachts

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

coach yachts

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

coach yachts

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

coach yachts

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

coach yachts

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

coach yachts

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

coach yachts

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Is that what they think of us? Migrant sticks two fingers up to the camera while being driven away after arriving in Dover - as 2024 total of new arrivals tops 3,000 already

  • It comes after the PM's migration policy on Rwanda was defeated in the Lords

A migrant stuck two fingers up to a camera while sitting on a coach after arriving at Dover today, as it is confirmed more than 3,000 people have now made the dangerous crossing across the English Channel  in small boats so far this year.

Pictures showed a coach full of people, including young children, ready to leave Dover for transfer elsewhere less than 24 hours after 225 people arrived in the UK in five boats on Wednesday.

One man was seen grinning and sticking his fingers towards the camera, while another was seen squinting towards the photographer.

Two young children could also be seen looking out the windows as they contemplated Britain for the first time.

Border Force vessels also intercepted more migrants attempting the treacherous 21-mile wide crossing today.

It is understood that three boats with around 100-150 people have been picked up so far mid-Channel and brought into the Port of Dover in Kent despite poor, foggy conditions at sea.

The total so far this year now stands at 3,208 in 68 dinghies - an average of around 48 people in each boat.

Nine people are tragically known to have died in the attempt this year including a seven-year old-girl who was in a boat which capsized on a canal with 16 people on board at Watten, 20 miles inland from Calais, on Sunday.

Three others were killed when they fell into the water off the coast of Cap Gris Nez on February 28. An investigation by prosecutors in Boulogne-sur-Mer is ongoing after the tragedy last Wednesday.

A total of 953 have made the crossing already this month in 20 boats.

After weeks of poor weather with storms and heavy rain and winds, the last couple of weeks have seen a significant uptick in the number of successful and failed crossings to the UK.

Last year 29,437 people made the crossing compared to a record 45,755 in 2022.

In 2021 there were 28,526 people who made the treacherous voyage.

READ MORE:  Dozens of migrants packed into a single dinghy give a thumbs-up for the camera and take selfies on their iPhones as they cross the Channel to reach Britain

The latest crossings come less than 24 hours after the UN declared 2023 to be the deadliest year on record for migrants across the globe.

The organisation said 8,600 people died while on the move last year, a 20 percent increase on 2022.

In Europe, drownings accounted for 3,129 deaths or disappearances in the Mediterranean Sea alone.

Yesterday, one dinghy was seen with around 65 people crammed aboard, with many clinging on to the side with their legs in the sea in desperation.

People smugglers have shown a rising disregard for human life over the past year, with the average numbers of people on each vessel rising rapidly compared to previous years.

In the UK, the new images come as the government was defeated in the House of Lords over the Rwanda bill, a flagship policy which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claims will deter people from crossing the Channel.

On Monday, peers inflicted a series of heavy defeats on the Government's Rwanda Bill as the House of Lords renewed an assault on Rishi Sunak's flagship laws to 'Stop the Boats'.

Ministers were resoundingly defeated on amendments to the marquee legislation in the unelected chamber, as peers set up a fresh battle with the House of Commons.

The Lords voted by majorities of more than 100 votes on a series of changes to the Bill, with the size of the defeats the biggest to have been suffered by Mr Sunak as PM.

Peers supported a move to ensure the controversial Bill is fully compliant with domestic and international law.

They also demanded that Parliament cannot declare Rwanda a safe country for housing asylum seekers until a new treaty with Kigali is fully implemented.
