Royal Brighton Yacht Club

Time Out says

Founded in 1875 and situated right next door to the Brighton Baths, the Royal Brighton Yacht Club has been a base for sailing enthusiasts for over a century. While a lot of the facilities are strictly for members only, the café is available to everyone. Located on the second level, you have to sign yourself in to the guest book to appease all the fancy red tape of the club, but being one of the only cafés in Brighton located right on the water, the view is worth it be it a coffee or a no hold's barred lunch.

An email you’ll actually love

On board, you will be given a Personal Floatation Device (PFD, usually called a Life Jacket in the old days) and your Sailing Lifts Your Spirits skipper will give a Safety Briefing.

Then the on-water part of your experience really gets underway as you drop lines, clear out of the marina, hoist the sails, cut the engine and enjoying the carbon neutral journey on the water.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club’s Olympic Bar & Restaurant

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

We had a 5pm booking, they placed us in a nice spot and the service was very good. they were very keen to take our meal order but after explaining we did not wish to order for some time they left us alone but were... attentive with drink service. We did end up ordering meals and we all had the steak. Food was very good not 5 star but very good value for money and well presented. Staff were very good. the lady I spoke to over the phone when booking the table was also very nice. More

Have driven past many, many times but never gone in. Pleasantly surprised especially with the vast space with many places to eat both inside and out. Cam here for breakfast so was relatively quiet but imagine this place gets busy as it is on such... an amazing location right beside the beach and near the pier. The breakfast was adequate in size and prices reasonable. The breakfast we had was very nice although the toast that I had was very tough to cut with a knife so was a bit embarrassing trying to eat. Apart from that it is a lovely place and the staff too were friendly and attentive. More

Menu has been cut again, probably removing any menu item deemed too much work. So we are left with dishes that are 'assembled' which is really disappointing. The best choices would be fish and chips with clearly frozen fish because the sizes and choices are... identical but at $30 you might like to think about it. I chose the caesar salad with chicken at $26. The chicken was nicely poached. Using small commercial croutons is no substitute for a chef rubbing small bread slices with garlic butter and cooking. Instead of cooking bacon to golden, the chef decided some pieces of prosciutto would suffice. It wouldn't happen in my home kitchen. The lettuce should have been young cos lettuce leaves but there was chopped cos with bitter radicchio leaves. Unbelievable. Would it have been too hard to e taken a vegetable peeler to some good quality parmesan. No. The chef used very finely grated commercially accessed parmesan. I am dismayed that the RBYC allows such mediocrity in its cafe. My grandson had beef tacos, another assembled dish of tacos filled with finely chopped beef. Nothing special. If the cafe is struggling it would not surprise me. The chef underwent training I suspect! Maybe it's time to apply what you learnt. More

We were invited for a function without being aware that the bar and the restaurant is open to non-members of the club. We were surprised to find a prime location with simple but tasty food. good service and not an expensive price!

Visited twice in September - after a gentle stool along the promenade. It was rather breezy both times so we sat inside, but food was good - fresh and tasty. We also had a pram with us but that was not a problem as there... is plenty of room between the tables. More

After a brief business visit to Brighton Town Hall, with an overseas vistor in tow on a pleasant sunny day a visit to Brighton beach and pier seemed a good idea. Having parked across the road from the yacht club it was an after-thought that... it might be a chance for lunch. Menu at the front gate was encouraging. Walked in as group of 6 visitors. No problem. Quickly seated in bright pleasant restaurant. Service was prompt. Meals were excellent and moderately priced. Only fault was having to get cutlery from waiters station and re-set our table. Overlooking the water and pier and direct exit to the beach. Enough to impress any visitor, who kept asking if we were members. More

The restaurant and bar were open , bright and modern and the deck had great views. Service was friendly and good and the ambiance and views lifted the rating. Food was standard fare but well prepared. Prices were acceptable. Overall a good experience.

royal brighton yacht club hours

We had a family lunch. Good choices for lunch and good portion sizes. The service was efficient and all the service team I encountered were very pleasant. I have probably eaten here six times... always a week day lunchtime and never disappointed. I kind recommend... this for a casual, informal lunch. Great views, too! More

Attended here recently for a private function. The staff were brilliant looking after everyone , service very good.

The Royal Brighton Yacht Club has a restaurant that is open to both members and non-members. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is an ideal spot for those who like to do the beach walk past the Middle Brighton Baths. The restaurant... has both a large open deck area and a larger enclosed section when the weather is unpleasant. The views from the restaurant are towards the marina and Port Phillip Bay and it's interesting to watch the boats in the Club being prepared for sea during the day. Staff are all friendly and patient and service is generally good. My wife and I have breakfasted there several times and it is our first choice of several options during our strolls along the beach. We have also had dinner on a Friday night and were surprised that, considering its well priced offering, it wasn't more popular. The menu meets all the standard bistro expectations and is well prepared and satisfying. The wine list is small, but covers all the regular bases and is fairly priced, even for non-members. Parking is available in the streets outside or next door in front of the Middle Brighton Baths and is free after 8:00 PM. More

I didn't complain on the day because I was a guest for my birthday. So now I'm catching up. My spagetti marinara was "çoles cafeteria"standard - and only just! We were ignored by the service (?) staff until our table was so overcrowded we had... to wave at passing staff to get any attention. Need I say more? More

This was a first visit and the staff greeted us in a very friendly manner. The food was very good and it is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset.Would definitely return.

trying new places in and around melbourne so a short train journey from cbd and a short walk. food was very good and the open kitchen showed all was clean and tidy. bit of a slow service but that was because it was packed so... no fault there. worth the effort to go a bit out of the way sometimes. More

royal brighton yacht club hours

Not overly impressed with this restaurant. Given it was our first time coming here and first impressions are everything I was very underwhelmed. The salad was boring, not a lot to comment on. Pizza was average - not much taste and quite soggy due to... the amount of cheese on top. I can see people come here for the view and location but they really need to up their game with the food. It could be so much better but it’s just so average. There are plenty more places in Brighton and along the esplanade that are better. More

Fantastic club with great food and amazing staff. Beautiful view over the bay. Food and drinks are at affordable prices
