From the iconic Camper and Nicholson-designed  J-Class, Endeavour to the showstopping Maltese Falcon, each of these stunning yachts are guaranteed to get adoring looks wherever they sail to in the world. With sleek exteriors and state of the art interiors, these vessels are the ultimate way to sail in sheer luxury.

Valquest – £8.87 million

From the pen of the legendary  Ed Dubois , Valquest has a sleek look, helped by its low profile deckhouse.

The all-aluminium sailing yacht has a modern interior, with stunning white leather and mahogany throughout the 40.8-metre (133.7ft) ship.

She was delivered in 2009 by the Dutch yard Bloemsma van Breemen, which also built Lionheart, the first J-Class with an aluminium hull.

On board, an exclusive guest list of up to nine people can be luxuriously accommodated in a large owner’s suite, two double and one twin cabin – all with en suite shower facilities and state-of-the-art entertainment centres.

The split-level main saloon really impresses: skylights allow plenty of natural light, while the stunning separate dining room and bar is ideal for formal dining and entertaining.

For those wanting to relax on deck, a covered social area is perfect for alfresco parties.

Valquest  is currently on the market and can be inspected in Monaco.

Bliss – £10.83 million

One of the few sporty composite sailing superyachts currently on the market, Bliss is a yacht designed to serve two masters – those who have a passion to cruise the world and those who love the thrill of racing.

She was launched in 2010 by Yachting Developments, New Zealand, which was responsible for the refit of the America’s Cup J-Class, Endeavour and for restoring Sir Peter Blake’s first yacht – Bandit.

Another beauty from the design boards of Dubois Naval Architects, Bliss has a characteristic sleek exterior.

Inside she doesn’t disappoint, with a contemporary and luxurious interior décor by Design Unlimited, featuring a palette of white, grey, red and black.

The 36.8-metre (120.7ft) Bliss can take up to 10 guests in three cabins.

Shenandoah of Sark – £13.68 million

A must for the true sailing connoisseur, Shenandoah of Sark has to be one of the most unique and desirable yachts in the world.

This classic 1902 three-masted gaff rigged schooner has a rich history and was built to be the ultimate retirement luxury by one of the richest bankers in America, Charles Fahnestock.

She is a true tribute to the bygone age of sail and epitomises beauty, grace, elegance and speed.

The 55-metre (180ft) ship was last refitted in 2009, with traditional and contemporary interior styling by the late Italian architect Gae Aulenti , who was responsible for the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and Bureau Veritas.

Wood lined rooms, glass skylights and port holes and a wood and brass onboard library certainly add to the ambience on board: think the golden age of yachting.

Shenandoah can accommodate an intimate gathering of up to 10 people, with a luxurious master cabin, along with three double cabins and two additional pullmans.

Endeavour – £15.97 million

A rare chance to own a piece of America’s Cup history , and a yacht often attributed for the resurgence of the J-Class.

When she challenged for the Auld Mug in 1934, Endeavour was one of the most advanced ships of the day.

Built by Camper and Nicholson, the yacht’s owner, Thomas Sopwith utilised his aviation design expertise on her rig and winches, as well as giving her a steel hull and mast.

Although the America’s Cup challenge was unsuccessful, the 39.56-metre (130 ft) Endeavour still made her mark in the racing circuit and won the hearts of many.

Sadly, a series of owners mistreated her and she was left a complete wreck, abandoned in the Solent until she was bought by Elizabeth Meyer in 1984.

Endeavour was completed rebuilt by the Royal Huisman Shipyard in 1989 before undergoing an extensive refit in 2010/11 by Yachting Developments, New Zealand, which included a new deck structure and deck layout and a new rig and sails.

This stunning  yacht can sleep up to eight guests in a master suite, two doubles with en suite facilities and a twin cabin with bunk beds.

Marie – £25.61 million

With her distinct red and black hull, Marie certainly stands out from the crowd.

Reminiscent of a pirate ship (she even has miniature canons on board), there is nothing brusque about her stunning open-plan golden interior.

Large skylights provide plenty of natural light and the high gloss anigre finish gives a warm feel throughout.

This 55-metre (180ft) ketch even has a Steinway baby grand piano – for anyone wanting to relive the luxurious and decadent Great Gatsby lifestyle.

Marie has many elegant design features like the private aft owner’s cockpit and the Art Deco inspired skylight above the oval dining table.

Athena – £41 million

The fourth largest sailing yacht in the world, the graceful and majestic Athena is a timeless classic.

This three masted 90-metre schooner has played host to the likes of Hollywood actors Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Griffin Dunne and Fisher Stevens.

Designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder with Dykstra Naval Architects and built by the Royal Huisman Shipyard, she is based on the Italian fashion designer family Gucci’s 1927 wooden schooner, Creole.

Sybaris – £80.29 million

Sleek and sculptured, Sybaris  is the sixth largest private yacht in the world, and everything about her is elegant and impressive.

Launched last year, she was designed by the creators of the iconic Maltese Falcon, Perini Navi, along with the expertise of the award winning designed Philippe Briand.

Her size and scale amaze: Sybaris is powered by 3,000sq m of sail. She also has two Rondal custom produced carbon masts, a retractable keel, and a new captive winch system.

Down below, it is easy to see why she won last year’s Monaco Yacht Show ‘s best interior award.

The Miami-based PH Design has created a spacious and luxurious open plan living space, with a focused use of titanium throughout the yacht.

The lustrous alloy was used for handholds, rails and other fittings. Specialist craftsmen from the F1 world were brought in to help with the construction.

Bespoke furniture and bleached oak joinery gives it a contemporary style, and 12 guests can be comfortably accommodated the six guest cabins. The full-beam owner’s suite includes two bathrooms a dressing area, walk-in wardrobe, an office and lounge.

Outside, a broad, well-protected deck affords private dining and lounging, with a unique 60-foot flybridge offering incredible views under sail.

The 70-meter (230ft)  Sybaris is currently for sale, lying in the Monaco area.

Eos – £116.45 million

A former holder of the largest private sailing yacht in the world title, the custom sail yacht Eos was build by the world famous Lürssen shipyard.

The 92.9 metre (304.89ft) Bermuda rigged schooner belongs to billionaire media mogul Barry Diller and his fashion designer wife, Diane von Fürstenberg.

She was delivered in 2006 and underwent a refit in 2013 following a fire on board.

Eos’ interior has been designed by François Catroux, named by Vanity Fair as the “Über-Rich’s Favorite Interior Designer”.

Known for his symmetrical design, Catroux previously penned the interior design for another Lürssen superyacht – the 316-foot Limitless.

Eos has a clean and contemporary interior, with a use of neutral tones and wood.

She can take up to 16 guests and 21 crew and features a displacement aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Eos has plenty of toys and tenders to keep guests entertained at sea.

Maltese Falcon  – £116.45-£232 million

Chartered by the likes of Tom Hanks and Hugh Jackman, the iconic Maltese Falcon has to be one of the most photographed and best known yachts of all time.

The 88-metre (288.7ft) Perini Navi yacht is famed for its revolutionary sailing system – the Falcon Rig – which delivers exceptional performance and speed.

The square rigged DynaRig sail plan is automated. Three self-standing and rotating masts accommodate 15 sails for a total sail area of 2,400sq m. These are controlled by a touch of a button on the ship’s bridge.

Although purists might argue the Maltese Falcon is not a true sailing superyacht, most agree that she is stunning to behold.

The VIP outside bedroom

Original built for the American capitalist Tom Perkins (he would only ever say that she cost more than $150 million, but less than $300 million), the Maltese Falcon was later sold for $100 million to one of the richest women in the world, billionaire hedge fund founder Elena Ambrosiadou.

Today, she is available for charter, taking up to 12 guests for the most luxurious holiday of their lives: think Jacuzzis, an al fresco cinema, spa, gym, spacious saloon and a crew of 17 to deliver your every want and need.

Sailing Yacht A – £360 million

Sailing Yacht A is the world’s most expensive privately owned sailing superyacht.

Again, while many argue that she is not a true sailing yacht, her size certainly makes her impressive.

The leviathan is a staggering 143-metres (469 ft) long, and has three distinctive mast which are some of the tallest and most highly loaded freestanding composite structures in the world.

Each mast can sustain 90 knots of wind.

The three sails were created in 2016 at Doyle Sailmakers in Salem, Massachusetts, and the tallest mast – 91 metres – even has a small room inside.

Built for the Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, the sail-assisted superyacht has been designed by Frenchman Philippe Starck, who was behind Melnichenko’s previous superyacht, Motor Yacht A, and Steve Jobs’ superyacht, Venus.

This advanced superyacht has a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and state-of-the-art navigation systems.

The interior is kept a closely guarded secret, although it is believed that Sailing Yacht A has eight floors.

Much has been made of its unique 93-square-foot curved glass observation pod in the vessel’s hull.

Sailing Yacht A was built at Nobiskrug’s shipyard at Kiel, Germany, and features teak, and a steel hull and steel superstructure with high-tech composite fashion plates that can be formed into any shape or size.

Inside, Sailing Yacht can luxuriously accommodate up to 20 guests and a crew of 54.

As superyachts continue to get bigger and more extravagant than ever before, so too do the accompanying price tags. According to the Boats Group’s market index, the average cost of a yacht above 80 feet in the US last year was $5.3 million. As you’ll see below, though, there are a handful of high-end vessels that blow that figure out of the water.

Although it’s difficult to get exact prices in what is a fiercely secretive industry, sales of luxury yachts have surged amid the pandemic and the ultra-wealthy are more willing than ever to fork out for ostentatious ocean goers. Case in point: Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reportedly parted with $485 million for his Oceanco megayacht that’s currently in build.

Believe it or not, that’s quite a modest price compared to at least half of the entries on this list. Lürssen’s Dilbar , for instance, is rumored to have cost in the ballpark of $800 million. As alluded to, the shipyards behind these lavish, nine-figure designs seldom share details regarding ownership or price. Therefore, the amounts cited here are estimates pulled together from Wikipedia and other reliable sources. Still, the 15 vessels here give you a good idea of what’s possible when money is no object and the best builders in the business are at your whim.

Lürssen: ‘Dilbar’ — $800 Million

Delivered in 2016, Lürssen’s Dilbar is the largest motor yacht in the world by gross tonnage. It’s also the most expensive with an original price tag in the ballpark of $800 million. Weighing in at 15,917 tons, the monolithic 512-footer is one of the most complex and challenging vessels the German yard has ever built. Penned by Espen Øino, Dilbar features a classic profile and a light ivory hull with bronze accents. Onboard, meanwhile, the elegant interiors were brought to life by Winch Design and outfitted with only the best luxury materials. The pièce de résistance is, of course, the 82-foot swimming pool. Lürssen says it is the largest pool ever to have been installed on a yacht. Seafarers also have access to 41,000 square feet of saloons, staterooms, spas and cinemas to explore. German authorities impounded Dilbar earlier this year after establishing it was linked to a Russian billionaire. According to the US Treasury Department, the yacht is now worth between $600 million and $700 million, with annual maintenance costs of about $60 million.

Blohm+Voss: ‘Eclipse’ — $600 Million

The epic 533-foot Blohm+Voss superyacht Eclipse took half a decade to come to fruition before it was finally delivered to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2010. At that time, it was the largest yacht in the world and certainly one of the most expensive. It has now been 20-odd years and Eclipse still sits at the top of both lists and is estimated to be worth over $600 million. Designed inside and out by Terence Disdale, the vessel is equipped with 17 staterooms, a 185-foot-long owner’s deck with a palatial owner’s suite, a giant swimming pool that doubles as a dance floor, a gym, a beach club and a spa. Other highlights include a helicopter hangar with space for three choppers and a garage that can hold six tenders. On top of that, Eclipse has a top-end speed of 21 knots, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.

Lürssen: ‘Azzam’ — $600 Million

Lürssen has proven itself adept at delivering sizable (and expensive) vessels. In fact, the German yard is behind the world’s longest superyacht, which reportedly set one private owner back more than $600 million. Delivered in 2013, Azzam measures just shy of 593 feet and offers a volume of 13,136 GT. Penned by Nauta Yacht, the yacht’s exterior is characterized by a long, sleek forward area and a series of tiers ascending to the skydeck. The interior, meanwhile, was brought to life by Christophe Leoni and showcases luxurious decor inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century. Azzam is no slouch on the high seas, either, with a top speed of more than 30 knots. Astonishingly, the behemoth only took three years to build after one year of engineering. Azzam also underwent a refit in 2020 that likely resulted in a few more dollars being spent on her.

Lürssen: ‘Al Said’ — $600 Million

Another nine-figure Lürssen megayacht on the list is Al Saïd . Delivered in 2008, the 508-footer reportedly set the Sultan of Oman roughly $600 million and, well, you can tell. Designed by Espen Øino, Al Saïd ’s exterior is reminiscent of a classic cruise liner with the twin-exhaust stacks in the center of the superstructure. Sporting a steel hull and lightweight aluminum superstructure, the yacht is capable of 25 knots flat out, with a cruising speed of 22 knots. Inside, meanwhile, the contemporary interior was penned by Redman Whiteley Dixon. Highlights include a concert hall that can hold a 50-piece orchestra.

Lürssen: ‘A+’ (Topaz) — $527 Million

Lürssen megayacht A+ , previously known as Topaz , reportedly cost approximately $527 million (€400 million) to come to fruition. It is the fourth-largest yacht ever built by the German shipyard and was launched back in 2012. It’s rumored that Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, the deputy prime minister of the UAE and owner of Manchester City Football Club, took delivery of the vessel and is the current owner. A+ ’s exterior was penned by Tim Heywood Designs, while her interior was brought to life by Terence Disdale. She is equipped with cabins for 62 guests and 72 crew, as well as two helipads, a pool and a large swim platform. What more do you need?

Fincantieri: ‘Serene’ — $444 Million

Fincantieri’s first superyacht turned out to be big in terms of both proportions and price. The 439-footer was the largest yacht ever launched in Italy when it hit the water in 2011 and cost approximately $444 million (€450 million) to complete. Designed by Espen Øino, the seven-deck vessel is characterized by a sleek blue hull, a contrasting white superstructure and a ton of racy curves. She’s brimming with amenities, too, including an enclosed winter garden for dining in any season, a tender garage large enough to house a submarine and a supersized swimming pool for soaking. She also has two helipads and a hangar to facilitate comings and goings. Although the details of Serene ’s interior remain tightly under wraps, we do know Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design penned the 43,056-square-foot living quarters.

Platinum Yachts: ‘Dubai’ — $400 Million

Dubai was, quite literally, built for royalty at a princely fee of roughly $400 million. The superyacht was originally commissioned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei as a joint project between Blohm+Voss and Lürssen. The duo only got to finish the bare hull and skeletal superstructure before construction was halted in 1998. The incomplete design was then sold to the government of Dubai and turned into a royal yacht for the country’s ruler. The 532-footer, which was finished off by Platinum Yachts, was delivered to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2006. Penned by Winch Design, Dubai spans seven decks and can sleep 24 guests and 88 crew. Befitting a sheikh, she is also equipped with a landing pad for a Black Hawk helicopter, a submarine garage, a disco and a cinema.

Blohm+Voss : ‘Motor Yacht A’ — $300 Million

Legend has it that architect Philippe Starck sketched the design for Motor Yacht A on a napkin in a matter of minutes. Blohm + Voss then sold the superyacht for approximately $300 million. Commissioned by Russian industrialist Andrey Melnichenko, the 390-footer is characterized by a minimalist exterior and a highly distinctive pelican bow that cuts a striking silhouette. With a beam of 62 feet, the vessel offers a generous interior volume of 5,500 GT. She offers accommodation for 14 guests and 42 crew. She also has no less than three swimming pools, one of which has a glass bottom that creates a wow factor on the deck below. Melnichenko kept  Motor Yacht A for nearly a decade before replacing it with Nobiskrug’s Sailing Yacht A . The 468-footer is not only the largest sailing yacht in the world, but also the most expensive with an estimated value of $578 million .

Lürssen: ‘Radiant’ — $300 Million

The tale behind Radiant ’s price tag is almost as long as the 360-footer itself. Rumor has it, the superyacht was built for Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky at a cost of roughly $149 million (€148.5 million). After Berezovsky ran into financial difficulties, he asked Edmiston to list the vessel for $352 million (€350 million) and it eventually sold for a hair under that. Delivered in 2010, Radiant sports a steel hull, an aluminum superstructure and gorgeous teak decking. She can comfortably accommodate up to 20 guests in 10 suites, as well as up to 44 crew. Her top-tier amenities include a movie theatre, a beauty salon, a beach club, a gym, a pool, a Jacuzzi, a helipad and a fully stocked tender garage. Certainly sounds worthy of $300 million to us.

Lürssen: ‘Pelorus’ — $300 Million

In the late ‘90s, Saudi Arabian businessman Abdulmohsen Abdulmalik Al-Sheikh commissioned Lürssen to create Pelorus . The 377-footer hit the seas in 2003 and was the 11th-largest yacht in the world at the time. During her maiden voyage, Pelorus was sold to Roman Abramovich. The Russian entrepreneur had it altered by Blohm & Voss, adding a second helipad and other lavish amenities. Fast forward to 2009, Irina Abramovich received the yacht as part of her divorce settlement from Roman. She sold it to David Geffen in 2011 via broker Merle Wood for $300 million. Pelorus features a sleek exterior designed by Tim Heywood and a beachy chic interior penned by Terence Disdale. She has several terraces with doors that open out to the sea to create a true indoor/outdoor feel.

Peters Werft: ‘Al Mirqab’ — $300 Million

The 436-foot Al Mirqab is one of the largest yachts in the world and has a price tag to match. Launched in 2008, the $300 million vessel was built for Qatar’s former prime minister under the supervision of Kusch Yachts in the Peters Werft shipyard in Germany. Penned by Tim Heywood, the elegant exterior pairs a long, navy-blue hull with a contrasting white superstructure. The interior, meanwhile, was brought to life by Andrew Winch and has won several awards. Arguably, the most striking feature is the Arabic-influenced motifs on the marble floors. Another highlight is the swimming pool on the lower deck, which can be opened up to the sea via side hatches in the hull. Al Mirqab has staterooms for 36, and crew quarters for 45. She was also treated to a refit in 2014 and thus looks fresher than your average 14-year-old vessel.

Abeking & Rasmussen: ‘Aviva’ — $250 Million

Abeking & Rasmussen’s Aviva shows what kind of lavish amenities you can get with $250 million. The 323-footer, which was delivered in 2017, features the largest gym on any yacht. It’s so big, in fact, that it houses a full-size paddle tennis court that pulls double duty as a soccer field when the nets are down. Penned by Toby Silverton and Reymond Langton Design, Aviva pairs a curvacious blue exterior with a chic modern interior. She is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system that enables her to reach up to 11 knots using only electric motors or 20 knots with the addition of diesel power. The yacht is reportedly the sequel to another smaller Aviva that was delivered to British billionaire Joe Lewis in 2007. The yacht was launched just 33 months after the signing of the contract, which is quite an impressive feat given the complexity and scope of the project.

Lürssen: ‘Octopus’ — $200 Million 

Launched in 2003 at a cost of approximately $200 million, Octopus was built by Lürssen for late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The 414-footer is regularly loaned out for expeditions and scientific research initiatives. A true explorer, it features a dive center with a hyperbaric chamber, a yellow submarine named Pagoo and a remotely operated vehicle that can dive thousands of feet below the surface. Of course, this is complemented by state-of-the-art research technology. In addition, Octopus features two helipads, a hangar and seven tenders to facilitate comings and goings. She is also equipped with 13 staterooms, several bars, a recording studio, a cinema, a spa, a gym, a library and a basketball court. (You might remember Allen once owned the Portland Trail Blazers.) What’s more, Octopus appears to be climbing in price as time goes on. In 2019, the vessel was listed for sale for a cool $325 million .

Lürssen: ‘Rising Sun’ — $200 Million

Rising Sun was designed by one of the brightest minds in the industry: the late, legendary Jon Bannenberg. In fact, it was the last yacht the Australian designer penned before he died in 2002. The $200 million vessel was built by Lürssen and delivered to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison two years later in 2004. The 138-footer is characterized by large expanses of glass that let in plenty of the sun’s rays. In addition, it offers 86,000 square feet of living space brought to life by Seccombe Design. There are nine cabins for up to 18 guests and generous crew quarters for up to 46 crew. Elsewhere, you’ll find a gym, a cinema, a wine cellar and a basketball court. As for grunt, Rising Sun promises a maximum speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots. She was last refitted in 2011 and is currently owned by billionaire David Geffen.

Lürssen: ‘Solandge’ — $150 Million

Lürssen’s Solandge is rumored to have cost $150 million to come to fruition, and you can tell. Delivered in 2013, the 279-footer is replete with the finest materials. The floor, for example, sports no less than 50 types of exotic wood. There are also around 50 samples of natural stone in the bathrooms. Designed by Espen Øino, Solandge has a sleek exterior with elegant, clean lines. Aileen Rodriguez’s interior, meanwhile, is full to the brim with extravagant amenities. The spa comprises multiple pools on different decks, along with a hammam and a sauna. In addition, the yacht features a beauty salon is equipped with a sink and crane that together creates “snow” à la a snow room, as well as a gym and a massage room. When it comes to expensive sailboats, people generally speak about one's outside of their budget. There are a handful out there that exceed a lot of budgets.

In fact, there are at least 10 sailboats that make the list and two of them are in the billion dollar range. So what are some of the most expensive sailboats in the world?

The Pelorus, Al Said, Radiant, and Serene are all in the $300 million price range. For slightly more expensive sailboats, Dubai, A, Topaz, and Azzam are roughly half a billion dollars. As for Eclipse and History Supreme, these are worth over a billion dollars and are considered the most expensive.

A lot of these expensive sailboats come equipped with some extreme additions, like a helipad and jet skis. Others include workout facilities and even a movie theater.

According to experts in the sailing industry, you do not have to have all of these luxuries to make it an expensive sailboat. However, the more that is available will definitely increase the value.

‍ 10 Most Expensive Sailboats

Sailing yachts are some of the most expensive sailboats in the world for a good reason. Yachts tend to be on the luxury side of sailing, with many of them simply having engines to power the boat.

Depending on how much a consumer wants to spend on one will all vary based on the features they want it to be equipped with. For now, there are a handful of the most expensive sailboats to compare to.

Pelorus was last known to be worth around $300 million and it has changed owners a few times. It was crafted by Lürssen Shipyard in 2003 but quickly acquired in 2004 by Roman Abramovich.

The current owner is believed to still be Samuel Tak Lee from Hong Kong. This boat is a massive 377 feet long and has a 56-foot beam.

The weight is around 5500 tonnes and has a few luxury amenities such as jet skis, two helicopter pads, and even landing boats. There are also hot tubs on the top deck.

Al Said is another insane boat size for around $300 million, accommodating up to 70 guests and 26 suites. The boat typically has around 170 crew members on board to keep the boat in top shape.

This 500 foot super yacht was built by Lurssen Yachts and was specifically catered to the current owner, Qaboos Bin Said Al Said. There is not a lot known about this one, but there are a few known features.

There is a master bedroom and a concert hall to entertain guests. In addition, there are elevators to help guests easily go from one floor to the next.

As the 53rd largest yacht in the world , it comes at a hefty price tag of around $320 million. This is another built by Lürssen in 2009 and is believed to have been delivered to Abdulla Al Futtaim in 2010.

This sailboat is around 360 feet long and has about 5027 in gross weight tonnage. The extra weight could be caused by the gym, movie theater, beauty salon, elevators, beach club, and heavy-duty air conditioning units peering through multiple rooms.

Radiant can accommodate up to 20 guests and 62 crew members. Surprisingly, the boat averages around 16 knots with top-out speeds ranging up to 21 knots.

Serene is a custom-built yacht by Fincantieri, which is an Italian Shipyard. The estimated value is around $330 million, but could definitely be worth more.

This boat is about 440 feet long with about a 61-foot beam. It is quite heavier than the others already listed, with a gross tonnage of about 8230.

There are plenty of accommodations, such as multiple swimming pools, a seawater pool, a snow room, saunas, a submarine, a jet, a conference hall, and two helipads that can be converted to a dance floor. It is currently owned by Mohammed bin Salman, who is the Prince of Saudi Arabia.

The Dubai yacht is roughly 531 feet long and is the second longest yacht. It is currently owned by Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum, who is the Sheik of Dubai.

Dubai was built in 2006 by a joint effort from Voss, Blohm, and Lürssen shipyards. It is considered the golden child of yachts, so to speak, so a lot of extras went into this one.

There are custom-made tiles throughout, a helipad, and a glass staircase that lights up. In addition, it hosts many VIP parties, has tons of guest suites, and has its own owner's deck. This was estimated to be worth around $400 million for this yacht.

Sailing Yacht A is one of the most magnificent yachts in existence. It is estimated to be worth over $500 million and was originally developed by the 787 Project back in 2017, which was delivered to Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

It sports a sleek futuristic metal design on the outside, with three enormous sails, and is about 469 feet long. It has a beam of 81.4 feet and has almost 12,600 tonnage.

There are eight decks and a handful of elevators to get you where you need to go. You will also see a retractable roof, a helipad, an underwater observation pod, and a digital system to help raise or lower sails.

M/Y A+ Yacht , formerly known as Topaz, was constructed in 2012 by Lurssen Yachts in Germany. This yacht is roughly 482 feet long and has a gross tonnage of about 11,600.

It boasts a 7990 HP engine that provides a maximum speed of 25.5 knots. There are 32 cabins that can accommodate up to 64 guests.

There are seven decks to have plenty of room to play with, especially with the large jacuzzi, swimming pool, and gym. There is also a double helipad, movie theater, and a beautiful conference room. This boat cost nearly $530 million, but of course, could be worth more now.

Another development from Lurssen Yachts, Azzam is the longest private sailboat in the world at 590 feet. On top of that, it cost $650 million to put together and be handed over to United Arab Emirates’ former president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan Emir.

With over 4,000 people in charge of this task, the team that built this one claimed it was one of the most sophisticated and challenging builds they have ever done. In addition, it is quite fast for its size at 30 knots.

The yacht can handle 80 crew members and accommodate 36 guests. There is a golf training room, swimming pool, gym, and an open floor plan saloon.

The Eclipse superyacht is the second most expensive sailboat in existence and is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. For $1.5 billion, this boat is 536 feet long and was put together by Blohm and Voss of Hamburg.

There are plenty of lavishing features such as 24 guest cabins, a handful of hot tubs, and even a disco hall. The added benefit of something this expensive though is the security features, which have similarities to you would see in an action-packed movie.

There are defenses against intruders with detection devices and a missile defense system. In addition, there are even bulletproof windows, shielding against paparazzi, and lasers to sweep the area.

History Supreme

An interesting choice for a name, the History Supreme is the most expensive yacht ever sold at $4.8 billion. This 100-foot yacht is literally covered in gold and platinum, about 10,000 kg all the way from the stern to the bow.

It was supposedly built for Robert Kuok, who happens to be the richest man in Malaysia, but at first, it was anonymous. The boat itself rivals other ones with similar features, but it is the amount of gold and platinum throughout that makes it worth more.

In addition, the master bedroom has a meteorite rock wall and a statue constructed from real Tyrannosaurus Rex bones. On top of that, there is an aquarium that is decked out with a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic model.

How to Find Expensive Sailboats

Finding expensive sailboats is going to mean different things to various people. For one individual, $20,000 is going to be expensive, while other people might think $1 million is too much.

So how do you find a happy medium to get what you want, but not feel like you are overpaying? This is where research is going to be your best friend.

Know Your Budget

As mentioned, most people might have to adjust their tastes based on price alone. After all, the price is usually a good indicator of value but not necessarily all that is required for a good sailboat.

You might have to consider choosing a boat loan to help fund your purchase. If that is the case, you need to make sure you are getting a good deal and not being charged a ridiculously high amount of interest.

You should only get a loan for a boat if the purchase price is within your means. The loan is meant to help bridge the gap between what you have and what you can pay off in years.

You should avoid taking out a larger loan on a more expensive boat just because the payments are “not that bad”. This is where you need to calculate your finances and what you can afford.

In addition, the year that a particular boat was built makes a huge difference in price and performance. This would be another factor to consider, especially if you find an older boat that is in good shape.

Determine Your Sailing Goals

Once you have figured out how much you can afford to spend, you need to narrow down what your sailing goals are. Do you want a fast yacht or a single person dinghy? Maybe you enjoy catamarans for a large group of people on the weekends?

Whichever sailing goal you have in mind, this should be applied to your sailboat search. This can easily range in prices no matter what style of boat you decide to buy.

It would not make a lot of sense if you want to travel full time in your sailboat with just two people and decide you want a boat that requires six people on deck to operate. A lot of factors will come into play, you just need to make sure you can adjust accordingly.

Online Brokers and Marinas

If you want to find expensive sailboats quickly, searching online is going to be your best friend. This will save you a lot of time and hassle with just a few clicks into your search.

Depending on your location, you can search for brokers online and find one near you to look at. You can easily mark your price points and see thousands of boats in an instant.

As for marinas, this will be a smorgasbord of opportunities to check out various sailboats. You will likely find at least one expensive boat and the potential to speak with the sailor to see where they got it and other important information.

What Makes a Sailboat Expensive?

Sailboats are expensive for a lot of reasons, mainly having to do with size and tons of features. So depending on what the boat is equipped with, it could mean the difference between a few thousand dollars or buying the equivalent of a large house.

Size of the Hull

The size of your sailboat is a big factor in the price, but there are times where the hull makes it even more expensive. For example, a catamaran has two hulls and a trimaran has three hulls.

These boats are typically more expensive, especially since they will hold a lot more people. As you can see from the yachts, they can all hold roughly 100 people depending on the size.

Type of Sailboat

Some sailboats will be more expensive than others if they can handle diff types of water. Other boats might cater to shallow waters or calmer conditions, where other boats might be able to handle it all.

Depending on the type of sailboat and the experience you are trying to achieve makes a huge difference in the price. Of course, any yacht will be expensive in most consumer’s eyes, no matter how it is used in the water.

Various Technology

An older sailboat is not going to have near the same amount for technology as newer ones. These include navigation systems, electric winches, and radios.

Some are already equipped with solar panels or have the capability to. Other boats might have traditional useful features, such as a refrigerator or an oven.

Buying New or Used

You can often find cheaper sailboats if you know which year they are built in. There is nothing wrong with buying used, but you still need to make sure that it is in good shape and has the features you need.

Whether you purchase new or used, these can still be pretty expensive. Even used superyachts can still be around $10 million depending on the brand and what is equipped on it.

As for new sailboats, you get the latest technology and improved designs from previous models. You do pay a premium for a newer version with these added features, so that should be factored into the price.

Some sailboats are made out of interesting materials. For example, the History Supreme has gold and platinum all throughout, making it the most expensive in the world.

Most sailboats today are made out of fiberglass since it is easy to manufacture and lightweight. Some are still made out of wood, but are harder to find and take longer to build. Wooden sailboats are sturdy and last a long time, driving up their value.

SAILING YACHT A – World’s Biggest Sailing Yacht – $600 Million

SAILING YACHT A measures 143 meters making her the world’s biggest sailing yacht.

SAILING YACHT A is far more than a luxury vessel. She is a masterpiece of design and innovation combining sleek metal surfaces with futuristic naval architecture that took over two years to complete.

Launched in 2017, both the interior and exterior of this mega sailing yacht were designed by Phillippe Starck, who calls SAILING YACHT A one of his most high-profile projects.

The superyacht has taken on voyages all around the world and was most recently spotted sailing off the coasts of Gibraltar and Cyprus.

SAILING YACHT A interior

Both the interior and exterior of SAILING YACHT A were designed by Philippe Starck , a French architect known for his wide range of design projects.

He famously worked on the impressive MOTOR YACHT A, and the two iconic vessels share a lot of similarities in their layout and specifications.

Both yachts look incredibly futuristic and are sure to attract attention wherever they go.

While no exact details are known about the interior of SAILING YACHT A, it is rumored that she has an underwater observation pod with 30 cm (1 ft) thick glass located in the keel of the vessel.

This is one of the few parts where design mockups are publicly available, and the style of the interior can be examined.

The observation pod appears to have cream upholstery that stretches across the floor and ceiling of the cabin.

Two large symmetrical glass windows allow guests to view the breathtaking underwater world without even having to leave the yacht.

A third window is located at the bottom of the pod, which lets it feel like a true 360-degree experience and is almost comparable to a submarine.

A small floating side table provides guests with a space to place drinks or snacks in the pod and enjoy a one-of-a-kind dining experience in this unusual location.

Since the pod is located at the keel of the yacht, the large propellers are most likely visible from the windows suggesting it is most commonly used at anchor.

The superyacht has ten cabins that can accommodate 20 guests as well as a further 54 crew member.

Paparazzi photos and the work of yacht spotters provide a rare glimpse into the interior of SAILING YACHT A.

No official footage of cabins or salons has been released, although Starck’s past work suggests that the yacht would be furnished with opulent elements that perfectly combine luxury with style.

Silver and metal decorations play a large role and tie the interior design of the yacht together. 

However, SAILING YACHT A was launched much later than her motorized companion suggesting her interior might be more modern with minimalistic elements rather than lavish furnishings.

Occasional photographs shot through open doors, and portholes show expensive art pieces decorating the interior of the yacht and rather absurd design choices like a set of chairs shaped like large human heads.

The yacht appears to feature a large, open salon with an elevated seating area and symmetrical arches on either side.

While details aren’t known to the public, it is rumored that SAILING YACHT A features a luxurious spa area, a sizable gym as well as an owner’s suite with several rooms that is only accessible via fingerprint.

The massive private area is said to feature a 60-inch television that disappears into the floor as well as a rotating bed. 

Considering she is the largest sailing yacht in the world, it is surprising that SAILING YACHT A can only host 20 guests.

This suggests that there are spacious entertainment areas located on board, including several saloons and ample below-deck space for crew members.

Due to her large size and a small number of cabins, it is assumed that SAILING YACHT A can welcome a large number of day guests onboard for special events and celebrations.

Biggest sailing yacht controversy

It has been the topic of debate that SAILING YACHT A is not the largest yacht in the world but instead the ‘largest sail-assisted motor yacht.

Depending on the definition used, that would make BLACK PEARL the biggest sailing yacht in the world.

The most expensive sailing yacht

SAILING YACHT A is the most expensive sailing yacht in the world and cost an estimated price of US $600 million – a relatively “affordable” price considering her large size and tonnage.

A calculated US $48,000 per ton is considered low in the yachting industry, where European yachts are usually priced at US $60,000 per ton and over.

This average price would bring the value of SAILING YACHT A up to nearly US $800 million. However, due to the fact that the official sales price has not been released to the public, these numbers are mere estimates and cannot be validated officially.

Since the yacht is a custom project and one of a kind, it can be assumed that the total value of SAILING YACHT A lies far higher than her initial price.

In addition to any cost for the crew, supplies, and docking fees, she has annual running costs of US $50-75 million.

SAILING YACHT A is currently not available for sale or charter.

Specifications

SAILING YACHT A is incredibly large for a sailing yacht, and even compared to the longest motor yachts in the world, she would rank in the top ten.

Paired with her unusual futuristic design, this mega sailing yacht has a length of 143 meters (469 ft), a beam of 25 meters (82 ft), and a draft of 8 meters (26 ft) making her a more than an impressive vessel.

SAILING YACHT A was built by Nobiskrug , a German superyacht builder at their Kiel shipyard, and launched in 2017 after more than two years of construction.

To date, SAILING YACHT A is the largest yacht ever built by Nobiskrug and remains their flagship.

It is considered the most complicated project to ever be completed in the sailing industry and gained international media attention on its launch date. It has a total volume of 12.558 tons and is powered by hybrid diesel-electric engines. 

SAILING YACHT A is considered the longest sailing yacht in the world and is more than 36 meters (118 ft) longer than BLACK PEARL, which ranks in second place on the list.

Coincidentally her project name was WHITE PEARL which is a reference to her brilliant white exterior, although it couldn’t have referred to BLACK PEARL since she was only launched in 2018, a year after Melnichenko’s masterpiece.  

Her three-carbon masts stand at an impressive 100 meters (328 ft), making them some of the largest in the world and taller than Big Ben in London.

However, her large size is sometimes also limiting as she struggles to fit underneath most bridges and is therefore constrained to certain routes.

She once passed under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with only 20 feet to spare between her masts and the bottom of the famous bridge.

She is rumored to have an electric gimbal crow’s nest, which allows for remote operation and advanced wind measurements. Her sails are all white, and her masts have nearly sickle-like shapes, which add to her striking futuristic appearance.

It is noteworthy that she is commonly photographed with her sails down, which suggests she might be using her support engines more frequently than true wind power.

With a sail area of more than 3.700m^2 (40.000 square ft), she can reach top speeds of up to 21 knots which is supported by her twin 4895 Horsepower MTU engines .

Her average cruise speed lies at 16 knots, and her total range is estimated to lie at 5320 nautical miles. She features a state-of-the-art sail system that is able to raise and lower the sails and anchors at the touch of a button. 

SAILING YACHT A has a steel hull and composite steel superstructure, which is unusual in the superyacht industry as most shipyards choose aluminum to reduce weight and keep the vessel light.

She currently sails under the flag of Bermuda, which is common for prominent sailing yachts.

During construction, SAILING YACHT A was called project WHITE PEARL, a fitting name for this sizable vessel.

Like her interior, the exterior of SAILING YACHT A was designed by Philippe Starck, although the Dutch studio Dykstra Naval Architects played a role in the naval architecture of the vessel.

They specialize in sailing yachts of all sizes and have been involved in many prominent projects in the industry over the years.

She features eight teak decks with a large swimming pool located in the center and several elevators spread across the yacht.

She is even said to carry a submarine. The main pool is lowered into the deck allowing for additional privacy for the owners.

Her hull has 24 shell doors, which are used to access equipment and provide additional deck space if needed. She is accompanied by four tenders also designed by Philippe Starck and built by Lloyd Stevenson in New Zealand.

Their sleek and elegant design matches that of the main vessel, and they are used for transporting guests and taking them on excursions.

One of the tenders of SAILING YACHT A is a carbon fiber speedboat especially reserved for the owner who can operate the vessel autonomously whenever required without the aid of crew members.

This allows Melnichenko, who is a fan of driving high-speed cars to be independent when staying aboard his luxury yacht. The tender is small but powerful, reaching speeds of up to 53 knots.

The larger tenders can seat up to eight passengers and feature panoramic windows ideal for sightseeing and exploring but are much slower at only 30 knots. 

The aft features a large garage used for storing jet skis, tenders, and other equipment.

High-profile artists such as Snoop Dogg are rumored to have performed here, although detailed evidence of such concerts remains unknown.

Whenever the aft isn’t used for performances or parties, it can be transformed into a swimming platform designed in the yacht’s iconic futuristic style. 

However, despite her cutting-edge design features, SAILING YACHT A surprisingly also includes classic nautical elements. She has a wooden steering wheel that is reminiscent of a pirate ship, although it is not operational.

The captain of the vessel can instead use modern technologies to operate the massive yacht via a small joystick and touchscreen.

There are symmetric extendable balconies that protrude from the bridge of the yacht and allow the crew to have a better view to be able to gauge the dimensions of the immense vessel.

Of course, SAILING YACHT A has a modern underwater lighting system that illuminates the vessel perfectly at night.

Now owned by the Emirati billionaire Abdulla Al Futtaim, in addition to the standard multi-billionaire fare of hot tubs, an onboard gym and luxury suites, the Radiant is also equipped with water cannons and sonic guns. 

9. Al Said – $300 million

Another bargain at just $300 million, this Lurssen masterpiece measures 508 feet long. It features a concert hall, handy for the orchestras, theatre and ballet companies you often meet seeking work on the high seas. It’s also the most powerful yacht in the world, thanks to its 16,500kW engines.

8. Serene – $330 million 

Unlike the other boats on our list, this 439-footer, which belongs to Russian billionaire Yuri Scheffler, is available to rent. The catch? It’ll set you back a cool $4.25 million per week. Gulp! The most expensive yacht rental on the Yacht Charter Fleet, it’ll come as no surprise to hear that this beauty was once hired by Bill Gates.

7. Motor Yacht A – $440 million

Whether making a spectacle at major  events in cities like Monte Carlo , or out on the Baltic Sea,  Motor Yacht A and its sister, Sailing Yacht A, draw attention like no other boat on this list thanks to their unique Philippe Starsk designs. Reportedly owned by Andre Melnichenko, Motor Yacht A crams 3 swimming pools, a helicopter hanger, a disco, a 2500-square foot master bedroom, six guest suites and a 30 foot speedboat into its 400 foot shell. 

6. Luna – $500 million

No stranger to the tabloids, this 377-foot megayacht (once owned by Russian Oligarch and yacht lover, Roman Abramovich) was at the centre of a pretty hefty divorce scandal. Unlike the other boats on this list, the Admiral X Force 145 remains, at this point in time anyway, still just a design (albeit a fully engineered one). So, what will spending the equivalent of the GDP of Pakistan get you? How about marble and crystal chandelier filled state rooms, two movie theaters, two helipads and a bilevel swimming pool? 

2. Eclipse – $1.9 billion

It will come as no surprise to learn that the Eclipse belongs to Roman Abramovich, who took delivery of it back in 2010. According to the tabloids, this megayacht features 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, a disco, countless hot tubs and two helicopter pads. Great value for money! 

1. History Supreme – $4.8 billion

And taking the top spot is the History Supreme with its almost hysterically funny price tag of $4.8 billion. Reportedly belonging to the richest man in Malaysia, Robert Knok, she may be a dwarf in comparison (measuring only 100 foot long) but the Supreme took three years and 10,000 kilograms of gold and platinum to build. Solid gold. Literally. It also comes with a T-Rex.

Sir Philip Green kicks off the list with his 207-foot behemoth, Lionheart.

The British retail billionaire commissioned Italian shipbuilding company, Benetti, to build his superyacht.

The boat has six VIP rooms, several private balconies and was finished in 2016.

Lionheart has had many famous faces walking its decks, including Kate Moss , Simon Cowell and Cristiano Ronaldo .

19. Aviva – $150 Million

British billionaire Joe Lewis’s superyacht comes in at number nineteen at a cool $150 million.

His boat has a full-size tennis court and is thought to house some of his most precious and expensive art pieces, including Picasso.

When he’s not spending time in his Bahamas residence, Joe spends several months a year aboard Aviva and his other three superyachts.

18. Solandge – $180 Million

Next up, we have the $180 million dollar superyacht built by Lurssen. 

In 2017, the Solandge was the highest brokerage and is available to rent for around $1.1 million a week.

The 280-foot yacht has eight VIP suites, a grand piano and a glass art installation by Murano.

Built by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in 2004, Ecstasea was the largest Feadship ever built.

The yacht is made of steel and is approximately 85.95 metres long and has a beam of 11.50 metres. This means it has a deadweight of 585 metric tons!

Ecstasea comfortably sleeps 14 passengers and has won multiple design awards for its stunning interior.

16. The Rising Sun – $200 Million

The Rising Sun was designed by Jon Bannenberg and built by Lürssen in 2004 for Larry Ellison .

It has 82 rooms over five floors, a basketball court, wine cellar and a movie theatre.

From 2010 it has been owned by David Geffen and is the 12th largest superyacht in the world, measuring 138 metres.

The Rising Sun cost $200 million to build and has since had even more money spent on luxury fixtures and fittings.

15. Octopus – $200 Million 

Designed and built in 2003 for Microsoft Co-founder, Paul Allen, Octopus has one hell of a lavish interior.

It has a large study, basketball court, recording studio, an outside bar with a whirlpool and a glass bottom swimming pool.

Octopus sleeps up to 26 guests and 56 crew members at any one time and comes equipped with two submarines and two helipads.

The next most expensive superyacht in the world is Lady Moura.

Lady Moura is owned by Saudi Arabian businessman Nasser Al-Rashid, who’s also an advisor to the Saudi Royal family.

The yacht comes with some very impressive features, such as a pool with a retractable roof, a helicopter and 24 karat gold lettering and embellishments throughout.

If that wasn’t enough, Lady Moura also features a unique sand-covered hydraulic platform that comes out of one side, to give guests a beach-like experience in the middle of the ocean.

13. Al Mirqab – $250 Million 

Al Mirqab is owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar.

The yacht has 10 bedrooms, a helipad, a swimming pool, a selection of VIP suites, an onboard cinema, jacuzzi and a variety of watersports equipment.

After it was completed in 2008, it was dubbed the second most beautiful yacht in the world.

It can accommodate up to 24 guests and comfortably house crew members in its 55 crew cabins.

12. Dilbar – $256 Million

Number twelve is Russian owned superyacht, Dilbar.

It belongs to Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, and he’s often seen using Dilbar to cruise around his private islands.

As well as being one of the most expensive yachts in the world, it’s also one of the largest – measuring a colossal 360ft in length and just over 50ft high.

It was built in 2008 by Lürssen Yachts and was named after Alisher’s mother.

Dilbar has one helipad, several swimming pools and accommodates 20 guests and 48 cabin crew.

11. Pelorus – $300 Million

Pelorus was built by Lürssen in 2003 and bought by Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich in 2004.

Since then, Pelorus has changed hands a few times and is now owned by HongKong based billionaire, Samuel Tak Lee.

Pelorus is 115 meters long and weighs a staggering 5517 tonnes.

As well as all the normal luxuries you’d expect to find onboard a superyacht of this calibre, she also comes equipped with two helipads, landing boats and jet skis.

She accommodates a full-time crew of 46, year round.

10. Serene – $300 Million

The tenth most expensive yacht in the world is the 439-foot, Serene.

Built-in 2011 by Fincantieri, for Russian billionaire Yuri Scheffler, Serene is has been one of the favourite rental yachts for the mega-rich, reportedly costing celebrities like Bill Gates around million a week!

It was purchased in 2015 by Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and sleeps around 24 guests and 52 crew members.

It comes with multiple swimming pools, two helipads, a submarine, and an amazing underwater viewing room!

9. Al Said – $300 Million

The next mega yacht on the list is owned by and named after the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos Bin Said Al Said.

Built between 2007-2008, little else is known about the Al Said, other than it has a large concert hall that’s big enough to house a 50-piece orchestra.

Also, it can host up to 70 guests, sleep a crew of 154 and reach around 22 knots!

8. Radiant – $320 Million

Built by Lürssen in 2009, Radiant is owned by Emirate Billionaire Abdulla Al Futtaim.

The superyacht is roughly 110 meters long, weighs approximately 5027 gross tons and sleeps up to 20 guests and 44 crew members.

She comes with multiple swimming pools, a helipad, a massage room, a swimming platform, a movie theatre, a gym and a jacuzzi.

The Radiant is also equipped with a highly powerful water cannon to defend herself from pirate attacks!

7. Dubai – $400 Million

Dubai is owned by the Sheik of Dubai, Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum.

Some of its features include jacuzzis, a swimming pool with handmade tiles, a helipad and a striking circular glass staircase which changes colour when lit from above.

Dubai also houses a split-level owner’s deck, several VIP and social areas, guest suites and a crew of up to 115 people.

6. Motor Yacht A – $440 Million 

This very impressive looking 390-foot superyacht was built by Blohm + Voss shipyard and launched in 2008.

It’s thought to be owned by Andrey Melnichenko, a Russian billionaire businessman and philanthropist.

Motor Yacht A can accommodate 14 guests and 42 crew members and is around 400 feet long.

It features a 2,500 sqft master bedroom, a disco, a helicopter hanger, a separate 30-foot speedboat and a glass-bottomed swimming pool.

5. Topaz – $527 Million

Coming in at number five is this stunning Lürssen built superyacht, Topaz.

She was built for Abu Dhabi tycoon, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Germany and launched in 2012.

The exterior was designed by Tim Heywood and Terrance Disdale Design did the interior.

It has a large jacuzzi on the main deck, a swimming pool, double helicopter landing pads and a state-of-the-art gym, cinema and conference room.

4. Azzam – $600 Million

This 590-foot megayacht is the world’s largest yacht to date.

Its owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi.

Lürssen Yachts are the ones behind this mega build. Azzam has its very own missile defence system, a bullet-proof master suite and can reach speeds of more than 30 knots, or 35mph, making it one of the fastest yachts on the planet!

3. Streets of Monaco – $1 Billion

The first billion-dollar yacht on our list is the “Streets of Monaco”.

By far one of the most impressive and expensive yachts in the world, once finished, the Streets of Monaco is going to be a 509-foot mega yacht, designed to feature miniature versions of some of Monaco’s and Monte Carlos most renowned landmarks.

The finished superyacht will include a go-kart circuit, three swimming pools, a mini-submarine a helipad, seven guest suites, a mini waterfall and a restaurant that with a fabulous underwater view.

2. Eclipse – $1.5 Billion 

The second most expensive yacht in the world, Eclipse, is owned by Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire has spared no expense when it comes to his superyacht.

He’s installed a private defence system, including missile detection sensors, intruder alarms and armour plating and bulletproof windows in his master bedroom. 

On top of that, Eclipse has two helipads, two swimming pools, 24 guest bedrooms, a disco hall and a mini-submarine.

It’s unclear how much Eclipse actually cost, but it is believed to be in the region of $1.5 billion!

Topping the list of the most expensive superyachts in the world at an eye-watering $4.8 billion is History Supreme.

This magnificent accomplishment is built from 10,000 kilograms of solid gold and platinum and is 100-foot long.

It was designed by Stuart Huges, a world-renowned luxury designer, for Malaysia’s richest man, Robert Knok. The History Supreme took roughly three years to build and features an array of luxury items.

The master bedroom includes a genuine Tyrannosaurus Rex bone statue and a wall made entirely of meteorite rocks!

If that wasn’t enough, the master suite also has a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium.

Tequila is one of the most popular liquors in the world and, in the United States alone, nearly 20 million 9-liter cases are consumed every year!

Whether you’re drinking it neat or mixing it into a margarita, you probably have a favorite brand that you know tastes great.

However, some brands can get incredibly expensive, and it is these tequilas that we are counting down today.

How did we select this list of tequilas?

We’ve put over 10 hours of research into re-writing and updating this list for 2024.

The tequilas on this list were selected by taking the current average sale price, at the time of writing.

Prices for rare tequila can vary depending on where they’re listed for sale; so for each tequila on this list, we checked the price across multiple websites and settled on the average.

Next comes the question, when does tequila stop being tequila, and start being artwork?

If you’re a fan of tequila you can probably think of at least one brand that treats their bottles as artwork.

These bottles can often be worth thousands, but is it all just similar tequila in a fancy and unique bottle?

We’ve decided we’re not going to be the judge of what’s tequila and what’s artwork, so what you see on this list reflects a true order, based on price per bottle.

Tequila is a very versatile liquor and there is no shortage of varieties you can find at your local store.

That said, some of these tequilas are reserved for only the most wealthy buyers, and you certainly won’t want to drink them on a casual night out.

Without further ado, here’s our list of the 20 most expensive tequilas money can buy:

20. 1800 Coleccion Tequila

Price/Bottle: $2,000

This unique expensive tequila gets its name from the year that distillers started using oak barrels for aging, and it is owned by the insanely wealthy Beckmann family.

Distilled twice during its 10-year aging process, this tequila has a flavor reminiscent of Amaretto, but with a bolder kick that reminds you that it’s tequila.

For $2,000, this tequila comes in its own crystal decanter trimmed with pewter and securely placed in a lavish case lined with suede to protect its precious contents.

It doesn’t get much more high-end than that!

19. Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio

Price/Bottle: $2,200

Made from 100% agave, Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio is a luxury tequila that has been aged for 10 years in French oak barrels and it is limited to special batches of only 2,000 bottles per year.

While its purity does impact this tequila’s price, the bottle that it comes in also makes it more expensive.

Each bottle comes with lettering and images engraved with one of the most expensive precious metals in the world, 21-karat gold.

It definitely looks and tastes every bit worth its hefty price tag.

18. Clase Azul Extra Añejo Ultra

Price/Bottle: $2,500

The first Clase Azul product to appear on this list is the only one in regular production and not a limited edition.

Clase Azul’s extra anejo ultra is aged for 5 years in American whiskey and sherry casks.

The bottle is decorated in platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold.

You can expect to pay around $2,500 a bottle for this tequila.

17. AsomBroso Reserva del Porto Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $2800

This brandy-like tequila is the type of drink that you break out during life’s greatest milestones.

Aged for 10 years in port wine barrels from Portugal, it is mixed with a small portion of white oak-aged tequila before being bottled.

Stored in a bottle shaped like a historical decanter found in an eighteenth-century Portuguese castle, it even comes secured in its own cedar humidor.

Although this tequila usually costs $2,800, you can sometimes get lucky and find it on sale for $1,499, which is honestly a great price, all things considered.

16. AsomBroso The Collaboration 12 Year Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $3,000

AsomBroso’s The Collaboration is an extra anejo tequila, aged 12 years in Silver Oak Cellar’s American casks.

The tequila is bottled inside a crystal decanter hand-made by Luciano Gambaro, a famous Italian artist.

The decanter is then packaged in a custom-polished humidor with laser engraving.

A single bottle might set you back $3,000, but there are places where you might be able to get your hands on one for cheaper.

15. Tesla Tequila Limited Edition Anejo

Price/Bottle: $4,000

It does seem that Elon Musk can do no wrong. 

Tesla Tequila started as an April Fool’s joke but quickly became a physical product that sold out immediately.

For the limited edition variant, only 420 bottles were produced, a number that jokingly references a time when Musk said he was going to take Tesla private at $420 a share.

The numbered limited edition variant with matching shot glass is currently selling for around $4,000, whilst the regular variant can fetch up to $1,500.

14. Codigo 1530 14 Year Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $4,500

Codigo’s 1530 extra Añejo has been aged inside French White Oak Napa Valley Cabernet wine barrels for 14 years and then finished in French Cognac casks.

This is Codigo’s most expensive tequila they’ve ever produced.

A single bottle is now worth $4,500.

13. Clase Azul Pink Limited Edition Reposado

Price/Bottle: $6,000

This isn’t the first Clase Azul tequila featured on this list, and it definitely won’t be the last.

The ‘Pink’ limited edition reposado was originally released in 2016 for breast cancer awareness, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to charity.

Just 3000 bottles of the original 2016 version were produced, featuring a white bottle hand-painted with pink artwork.

There have since been one or two other ‘Pink’ breast cancer awareness releases from Clase Azul.

12. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 3

Price/Bottle: $7,500

Patron’s En Lalique Serie line the creme de la creme of their tequila. 

Whatever we have here is the Serie 3, their latest release, but it’s the least expensive of the three.

The Serie 3 contains a blend of 14 different extra anejo tequilas, aged in 6 different barrel types.

Held in a crystal hand-carved decanter, with decoration inspired by the Weber Blue Agave.

The decanter is stored inside a luxurious wooden box.

Each decanter is numbered, and given the fact that this is Patron’s latest release, you can expect the Serie 3’s price to rise over the next few years.

11. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 1 Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $8000

Patron’s En Lalique Serie 1 uses some of their oldest tequila, presented in a hand-made decanter inspired by Mexico’s Weber Blue Agave plant, topped off with an amber stopper.

Although this bottle cost $8,000, it’s not their most expensive tequila. 

Patron went one step further for their next tequila, but more on that shortly.

10. Dos Armadillos Extra Anejo Sterling Silver

Price/Bottle: $10,000

The Dos Armadillos Extra Anejo uses only an 8-year mature Blue Weber Agave.

The tequila is bottled in their signature armadillo-armored bottle, however, the armor for this edition is made entirely out of sterling silver.

$10,000 is the current price to pick up one of these bottles, a number that’s far more expensive than any other product in their range.

9. Clase Azul Puebla Limited Edition

The Clase Azul Puebla limited edition tequila was released on the 5th of May 2021, to commemorate Cinco de Mayo, or the Battle of Puebla.

Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration held on the 5th of May to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire in 1862.

Just 300 bottles were produced and sold with a price tag of $400.

If you wished to purchase a bottle of Puebla Limited Edition today, the price would be more along the lines of $10,000.

8. Clase Azul Dia de Muertos Limited Edition

The Dia de Los Muertos collection from Clase Azul features several individual releases, but with most of them fetching similar prices, we’ve decided to include them in one single entry.

Dia de Muertos, or ‘The Day of the Dead’ as it’s otherwise known, is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated during November. 

Clase Azul has released a new edition within the Dia de Muertos line annually for the past several years.

Some of the bottle designs for the Dia de Muertos range are spectacular and tend to rise in value once they are no longer produced.

7. Patron Limited Edition En Lalique Serie 2 Extra Anejo

Price/Bottle: $10,500

Patron’s En Lalique Serie 2 is aged and made slowly in small batches to ensure perfect quality.

The bottle is carved crystal, featuring a crystal bee stopper with hand-painted gold accents.

It’s then placed inside a wooden box that spins to open, creating a rather luxurious effect.

We’ve seen prices ranging from $8,000 to $12,000 for this bottle, so if you’re patient you might be able to get it at a good price.

6. Clase Azul Master Artisans

Price/Bottle: $20,000

Clase Azul’s most popular and iconic tequila is their resposado tequila, housed in a blue and white bottle.

In 2021, the brand collaborated with the award-winning artist, Ángel Santos to create a hand-crafted, limited edition resposado.

The ‘Master Artisans’ line aims to highlight the work of Mexico’s most talented artists.

The Ángel Santos edition, which at launch sold for $5,000 a bottle , can now reach up to $20,000.

5. Clase Azul Jalisco 200 Limited Edition

Price/Bottle: $25,000

The Clase Azul Jalisco is an extra anejo tequila, named after Jalisco, a state in Mexico.

As the name might also suggest, only 200 bottles of this limited-edition tequila were distilled.

The tequila comes packaged inside a custom-built wooden box, which opens to reveal a drinking glass on either side.

With just 200 bottles released, getting your hands on one of these bottles isn’t cheap.

4. Clase Azul 15th Anniversary Edition

Price/bottle: $30,000.

The Clase Azul celebrated its 15th anniversary by releasing 15 limited edition bottles priced at $30,000 each.

Each of the unique bottles was handcrafted to convey the story of Mexico and all proceeds from the sale of these bottles were donated to the Fundacion con Causa Azul A.C, which supports the work of craftsmen and artisans in Mexico.

Although this tequila is no longer available for sale, we imagine that Clase Azul will release another special edition for a future anniversary, so if you want to grab a bottle, be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

3. Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario The Rolling Stones Special Edition

Price/Bottle: $75,000

Jose Cuervo was the very first legal tequila company to be established, with the company’s history dating back to 1795 .

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Case Cuervo, Jose Cuervo released the 250 Anniversario tequila.

They also released a limited edition of the tequila, in collaboration with the Rolling Stones rock band.

The Jose Cuervo brand played a leading role in the Rolling Stones’ 1972 North American tour, ‘Tequila Sunrise’.

For the Rolling Stones special edition, the tequila bottle is embossed with the famous ‘Hot Lips’ logo in 14-carat gold, and spikes along the sides.

It also comes packaged in a leather guitar-shaped case, including seven shot glasses.

The tequila was initially released with a price tag of just $4,000, but prices have skyrocketed to almost $75,000 since then.

2. Tequila Ley .925 Ultra-Premium

Price/Bottle: $225,000

In 2006, the artists at Tequila Ley designed three unique bottles to contain the tequila designed by Mexican artist Alejandro Gomez.

Each bottle was only created 33 times, for a total of 99 bottles, each more expensive than the last.

While this tequila in a glass bottle retails for $3,500, the gold and silver bottle goes for $25,000, and the gold and platinum for $150,000.

The most expensive of all was the white gold and platinum, which carried the insane price tag of $225,000!

Although the tequila itself is delectable, the real stars are the bottles that collectors and tequila enthusiasts scrambled to try and grab while they lasted.

1. Tequila Ley .925 Diamante

Price/Bottle: $3.5 Million

Recorded as the most expensive tequila ever sold by a mile, the .925 Diamante is a true work of art.

The Ley .925 Diamante tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, which is grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

The tequila is then aged for 7 years inside French Oak barrels before being poured into a platinum and white gold version of Tequila Ley’s signature-shaped bottle.

However, none of these things truly account for the Diamante’s insane price tag.

As the name might suggest, the bottle is encrusted with 4000 diamonds, amounting to a total of 18.5 carats.

Now that we’ve come to the end of the list, you might have noticed a common theme.

Clase Azul had the most entries on this list, holding seven positions in the top 20.

This is largely due to the fact they treat their bottles as artwork, often showcasing hand-painted art in limited edition releases.

That’s not to take away from their tequila, but to say that their unique approach is very popular among collectors and tequila enthusiasts alike.

Cigars have risen in price rapidly over the past two decades.

They’re associated with luxury and wealth more than ever before, and cigar aficionados are constantly looking for rare and exclusive cigars to add to their collections.

This begs the question: how expensive can cigars be, and how difficult could it be to get your hands on the rarest of the rare?

Today we’re bringing you our updated list of the most expensive cigars in the world.

How did we select this list of cigars?

One of the issues with many expensive cigar lists on the internet, including the original version of our own, is how the cigar values are calculated.

For instance, there was once an auction for a very rare box of cigars that sold for more than half a million dollars, but the box consisted of almost 800 cigars. More details on that are below.

We’ve decided to thoroughly calculate the price/stick for each of the entries on this list, so you can have a clearer understanding of exactly which cigars are the most expensive in the world.

Whilst it may be difficult to obtain some of these cigars individually, assuming you’d want to obtain them of course, we think this is the best way of ranking the list.

Another thing we decided to take into account is limited edition releases which are packaged in custom humidors instead of regular boxes.

These humidors can often cost thousands of dollars alone, and end up distorting the price of the cigar.

Can people still buy these cigars?

Most of the cigars featured on this list can still be bought and smoked to this day. 

Many of them are limited edition lines and are likely harder to find than most cigars.

What exactly makes some cigars more expensive than others?

Typically, there are a few things that can factor into cigar price:

• Limited edition productions
• Aged tobacco
• Brand recognition

Limited edition productions can often limit the total number of cigars produced, and as time passes the number of those remaining drops.

A lot of rare cigar releases also use aged tobacco leaves, and you’ll see several brands on this list that age their tobacco for at least 10 years before the cigar is rolled.

Brand recognition also plays a part as particular brands such as Cohiba are always sought after.

Finally, if none of the above results in a cigar being expensive, there are a select few who will cover cigars in gold leaf, and diamonds, and infuse them with expensive cognac.

But more on that later.

The 25 Most Expensive Cigars

We’ve done countless hours of research to ensure that our updated version of this list is the best resource available.

Without further ado, let’s get into this list of the 25 most expensive cigars in the world:

25. El Septimo The Zaya Collection (Mirifico Sapphire)

Price/Stick: $100

The Zaya Collection, produced by El Septimo, contains 8 different varieties of cigars.

Each variety contains five different filler tobaccos, with the tobacco leaves aged up to 15 years.

Typically, each cigar features are larger ring gauge of around 60, due to the variety of filler leaves used.

Whilst the cigars within this collection have very different flavor profiles from one another, the prices/stick are relatively similar.

At the time of researching this article, we’ve included the variety selling for the most, which is Mirifico Sapphire, at $100/stick.

24. Arturo Fuente Opus X 20th Anniversary

Price/Stick: $115

Arturo Fuente has long been known for their high-quality cigars, and their Opus X range contains some of the most sought-after cigars in the brand’s history.

The Opus X line was created in 1995 and in 2016 Fuente released the ‘Opus X 20th Anniversary’ edition to commemorate 20 years of the Opus X.

The ’20th Anniversary’ line contained four cigars:

• Father & Son
• God’s Whisper
• Power of A Dream

The prices do vary between each variety, however, because the ‘God’s Whisper’ variety comes in a ‘Perfecto’ size it tends to be sold for higher prices than the rest of the line.

23. Cohiba Spectre 2023

Price/Stick: $130

The Spectre line from Cohiba was initially introduced in 2018 and cost $90 per stick.

Separate versions of the Cohiba Spectre have since been released annually, with the most expensive being the Spectre 2023.

The 2023 Spectre is limited to 600 boxes of 10 cigars, featuring a 52 ring gauge and 6 1/2 inches in length.

What’s most interesting about the release is the packaging, which differs somewhat from most cigars, including that of Cohiba.

The cigars are stored in a box that opens vertically, featuring a hydraulic system that elevates the tubed cigars when you press the ‘O’ button inside the Cohiba logo.

22. Davidoff Royal Release Salamones

Price/Stick: $150

To be qualified enough to roll the Royal Release Salamones, Davidoff makes sure you have more than 15 years of experience rolling cigars.

This cigar is only rolled by 8 different people who together have rolled over 7 million cigars.

The Royal Release Salmones takes 10 years to grow from tobacco seed to finished product and is sold in boxes of 10 for $1,500.

21. Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 Reserva Cosecha 2012

Price/Stick: $181

The Epicure No. 2 is one of Hoyo de Monterrey’s signature cigars.

In 2016, Habanos SA announced the release of the No. 2 Reserva Cosecha 2012.

This blend only uses tobacco leaves from 2012, aged for a minimum of three years.

With just 5000 boxes of 20 cigars produced, this cigar is bound to increase in value with time.

20. Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013

Price/Stick: $200

Here we have another Hoyo de Monterrey ‘Reserva’ release, the Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013.

Typically, Gran Reserva lines are more sought after than regular Reserva series, due to the difference in tobacco aging.

Reserva cigar blends use tobacco leaves that are aged for a minimum of three years.

Whereas Gran Reserva blends use tobacco leaves aged for a minimum of 5 years.

Gran Reservas are also produced with only 15 sticks per box, instead of the usual 20.

19. Cohiba Siglo De Oro (Year of the Rabbit)

Price/Stick: $250

In 2023, Cohiba announced the release of the Siglo De Oro, to commemorate both the Chinese ‘Year of the Rabbit’, and also the 30th anniversary of the Siglo series.

Naturally, people across China, Hong Kong, and various other countries in Asia were the first to see these cigars unveiled.

Only 18,888 boxes of the Siglo De Oro will be produced.

That number might sound oddly specific, and it is indeed no coincidence, as the number 8 is lucky in Chinese culture.

The Siglo De Oro is a 54 ring gauge, 4 1/2 inch long cigar, sold in boxes of 18.

  18. H. Upmann Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha 2011

Price/Stick: $260

H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands in the world, with history going all the way back to 1843.

The Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha is of course named after the legendary Sir Winston Churchill , who was known not only for being one of the most important prime ministers in British history; but also for his love of cigars.

The Gran Reserve line was launched by H. Upmann in 2009, and in 2011 the Sir Winston edition was released.

Just 5000 boxes of 15 cigars were produced, for a total of 75,000 cigars.

17. Partagas Serie E No.1 Colección Habanos 2013

Price/stick: $280.

The Serie E No. 1 Colección Habanos 2013 from Partagas appears 18th on our list of the most expensive cigars.

With this particular cigar now being over 10 years old, its price has risen heavily.

You can still find this cigar for sale in the USA for roughly $280 per stick, however, prices do vary.

16. Hoyo De Monterrey Maravillas Collection 2015

Price/stick: $290.

The most expensive Hoyo de Monterrey cigar is the Maravillas Collection 2015.

There were just 2000 boxes of 20 cigars produced, amounting to a total of 40,000 cigars.

Given the smaller production number in comparison to the other Hoyo de Monterrey’s featured on this list, you can expect to pay $290/stick for this cigar.

15. Cohiba Behike Series

Price/Stick $300

Cohiba Behikes are one of the most popular and sought-after cigars in the world.

Behike cigars are known for their full-strength flavor and quality, provided you can get your hands on the authentic product.

They’re sold in three different ring gauges: 52, 54, and 56.

These sizes are represented in their names respectively: Behike 52, Behike 54, and Behike 56.

The Cohiba Behike cigars are sold in 10-count boxes and increase in price depending on their size.

14. Oliva Serie V Roaring Twenties Super Limited Edition

Oliva Cigar Co. are well known for producing cigars that provide a great smoking experience for a great value.

However, in 2023 they decided to do something a little different.

The most popular line of Oliva cigars is the ‘Series V’, and last year they announced a new Series V Roaring Twenties Super Limited Edition.

When we take a look at the average price of an Oliva cigar, we can see a price of around $10, so what’s different?

The packaging is the most notable difference, with the Roaring Twenties SLE cigars being placed in boxes produced by Daniel Marshall.

Half of the cigars (the top layer) are also covered in gold foil.

In addition, there will only ever be 300 boxes created, for a total of 3000 cigars.

13. Trinidad Casilda Coleccion Habanos 2019

Price/stick: $370.

As you may have already noticed, Habanos limited edition collections can become incredibly expensive.

The Trinidad Casilda 2019 is another edition within the Coleccion Habanos with only 3000 boxes being produced.

This cigar once again features the traditional book-shaped box packaging as with any ‘Coleccion Habanos’ release.

Getting your hands on a single stick could cost up to $370.

12. Daniel Marshall 24KT Golden Gigante

Price/Stick: $395

Continuing both the obsession with gold and also the story of Daniel Marshall brings us to the next cigar on our list.

For those who are unaware of Daniel Marshall ; he’s a well-known figure within the cigar industry for his work with manufacturing custom humidors.

In 2011, Marshall decided to create a 24KT gold cigar for his friend’s 64th birthday. 

Marshall then produced a limited run of the cigar which would be packaged in a custom-signed travel humidor.

The 24kt cigar comes in two sizes, Torpedo and Gigante, with the Gigante size being the more expensive of the two.

Its base is that of the DM2 cigar, also sold by Daniel Marshall, which is rolled and sold to him by the Plasencia factory.

Daniel then covers the cigar with a thin layer of gold leaf from Italy.

  11. Montecristo Gran Piramides Limited Edition 2017

Price/Stick: $400 

Montecristo is one of the most popular cigar brands in the world, and one of their most expensive cigars is the Gran Piramides Limited Edition from 2017.

The Gran Piramides are part of the ‘Coleccion Habanos’, which come packaged in a box that’s shaped to look like a book.

At its core, the Gran Piramides are a Montecristo No. 2 that has been increased in size for this limited collection.

This cigar has a length of 6.25 inches and a ring gauge of 57, while Montecristo No. 2’s are a 52 ring gauge, and slightly shorter in length.

Only 2000 boxes of the Gran Piramides 2017 were produced by Habanos SA.

10. Partagas Lusitanias Gran Reserva Cosecha 2007

Price/Stick: $430

Continuing with another Habanos SA-produced cigar, the 2007 Gran Reserva Lusitanias from Partagas is our 11th most expensive cigar.

Just 5000 boxes of 15 cigars were produced, resulting in a total count of 75,000 cigars.

The Gran Reserve Cosecha 2007 can still be found for sale, but given its age, you might have to shell out more than you wish to.

9. Cohiba Talisman Edicion Limitada 2017

Price/Stick: $450

When it was originally released, the Cohiba Talisman EL 2017 cost just $547 for a box of 10.

Since their release, the price has risen rapidly year over year.

The cigars were produced at the world-famous El Laguito factory in Havana, Cuba.

At the time of writing this article, you’d be lucky to find a single stick for under $450.

8. Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edicion Limitada 2021

Price/Stick: $500

While not the most expensive release from Cohiba in the year 2021, the next entry on this list was certainly an important one.

The 55 Anniversario Edicion Limitada 2021 marked the 55th anniversary of Cohiba.

As the name suggests, the cigar was indeed a limited edition, and difficult to get a hold of.

The cigar was released in 10-count boxes, costing roughly $5000/box.

7. Davidoff Oro Blanco

Price/Stick: $600

Davidoff claims that the Oro Blanco is the most exceptional cigar they’ve ever created.

The Oro Blanco is a 6-inch, 54 ring gauge, toro-shaped cigar, with an all-Dominican wrapper, binder, and filler

So why does it cost $600 per cigar?

One of the main reasons for its high cost is due to Davidoff’s aging process.

The Oro Blanco, which translates to “White Gold”, is made with tobacco leaves grown in areas with some of the richest soil across the entire Dominican Republic.

The leaves are then aged for 12 years before the cigar is rolled; a task completed only by Davidoff’s most experienced rollers (15+ years of experience).

After one additional year of aging, the single cigar is then reviewed, approved, and placed into a custom box.

6. Mayan Sicars

Price/stick: $633.

At the beginning of this article, we mentioned a specific auction involving a box of 800 cigars.

In 2012, a large crate of Mayan cigars, expected to be more than 600 years old, was discovered in Guatemala.

It’s important to mention that the most reliable source of this information mentions the sale of all 800 cigars for a total of $507,000, which would put the price/stick at $633.

The cigars were buried deep below the surface in sealed clay pots, and discovered by an archeologist team from Tampa University.

Who paid the $507,000? A man named Gary Liotta, owner of the Santiago Cigar Factory in New York.

5. Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve

Price/Stick: $750

On the sixth spot, we have Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve cigar.

It’s made each year, and if you’re a cigar enthusiast, you will need to preorder them a few years beforehand. 

The total size of each cigar is 7-5 x 52 inches. The Connecticut Maduro wrapper comes with a Dominican binder and filler that is aged for 12 years.

The filler is infused with Louis XIII cognac, which gives it an amazing aroma.

This cigar is very rare and special, and the cognac has been known for selling only to dignitaries worldwide. 

A total of 75 boxes are being made every year. The incredible aroma, as well as the taste of the cigar, will be something that you will be so impressed with that you will never forget. 

4. Cohiba Ideales Coleccion 2021

Price/Stick: $1100

As the name suggests, this Cohiba cigar was released in 2021, measuring almost 7 inches in length, with a 56 ring gauge.

The Ideales Coleccion 2021 is limited to just 3000 boxes of 20 cigars, totaling 60,000 sticks.

The box is manufactured to look like a book.

Cohiba’s Ideales Coleccion 2021 is the last cigar to feature on this list that isn’t either covered in gold leaf and crystals or nearly 20 years old.

Which makes it the most expensive plain cigar that can still be purchased today.

3. Gurkha Black Dragon (2006 Edition)

Price/stick: $1,150.

The Gurkha Black Dragon is a cigar that you can still buy and smoke newer versions of to this day, but the original 2006 edition is a rare find.

The OG boxes were handmade using camel bone and were limited to just 5 boxes of 100 cigars.

Those who have smoked the original Black Dragon from 2006, and the newer editions seem to conclude that the taste is more or less the same.

Although the 2006 first edition of the Gurkha Black Dragon cost around $1,150, given how limited it was at the time; the current version of this cigar can be added to your collection for just $40/stick.

2. King of Denmark Cigar

Price/stick: $4,500.

The King of Denmark cigar is produced by Royal Danish and only 30 sticks are rolled per day.

Buyers can customize the cigar with both 24KT gold leaf and Swarovski crystals. 

They’re also able to have their name inscribed on the cigar.

Whilst this cigar doesn’t have to cost you thousands, it can reach up to $4,500/stick depending on the customization.

1. Gurkha Royal Courtesan

Price/Stick: $1.36 Million

The most expensive cigar in the world is the Gurkha Royal Courtesan cigar.

The Royal Courtesan is worth a ridiculous $1.36 million per stick.

One of the most interesting things here is that Gurkha are not known for their quality. 

In fact, Gurkha’s quality control is often a common problem reported by fellow cigar aficionados.

This begs the question: why does this cigar cost so much more money than anything else on the list before it?

Let’s get into the details of the Royal Courtesan:

• The cigar’s filler is infused with Remy Martin’s Louis XIII cognac.
• It’s hand-rolled by a select few skilled rollers, who are blindfolded.
• The band of the cigar is covered in 5-carat diamonds.
• Rare Himalayan tobacco leaves are used for the wrapper.
• The wrapper is also covered in a layer of 24KT gold leaf.
• Personal delivery to the owner by a messenger

There are, however, a few entries we’d like to mention.

Although these weren’t included in the main list, they’re worth mentioning to any fellow cigar aficionado.

Regius Double Corona Cigar

Price: $52,000.

We decided to leave out the Regius Double Corona from our main list as the cigar itself is not the main reason for the high price.

In 2013, Regius Cigars developed their Double Corona cigar, which is produced in Nicaragua.

However, the main attraction was not actually the cigar itself, but what was included with the purchase.

The buyer of the cigar would be flown first class out to Regius headquarters in Nicaragua, where they would be given a private tour of the factory.

They would also be allowed to create their own cigar blend, and be given 1000 sticks of said blend to take home with them.

Gran Habano #5 El Gigante

Price: $185,000.

Technically this cigar does have a clear price/stick, selling for $185,000 in 2013.

However, it’s probably worth mentioning that the cigar is 19 feet long, 3 feet thick, and weighs over 600 pounds.

Here are some interesting facts about the Gran Habano #5 El Gigante:

• Despite its size, it can be smoked by multiple people at the same time.
• Made with 1,600 pounds of tobacco.
• Equivalent to smoking 25,000 cigars
• Contains 15,000 wrapper leaves
• Has a ring gauge of 1920
• Weighs 2,500 pounds with the wooden case

10. Barbados – $2,061

Kicking off our list of the 10 most expensive countries to live in worldwide, is Barbados. 

Barbados is a sovereign island nation in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, which is the Caribbean region of North America. 

It covers approximately 349km² and is 23 kilometres wide and 34 kilometres long, with a total population of 285,719 people. 

Barbados is the fourth-most densely populated country in the Americas and, it’s capital city, Bridgetown, has approximately 110,000 people living in it. 

To rent a one-bedroom studio apartment in Bridgetown, you’re looking at spending around $500 a month, or $100 a night in an Airbnb. 

A basic meal out will cost you no less than $13. A beer is around $6.50 and coffee is approximately $5.00 depending on where you go. 

9. Japan – $2,612

The ninth most expensive country to live in worldwide is Japan. 

Japan is an archipelago island nation in South-East Asia, made up of 6,852 islands, with a current total population of 126.8 million people. 

Of the 6,582 islands, the four largest islands account for the majority of inhabitants, as roughly 97% Japans population live on the four islands. 

Japan has many major cities, like Osaka, Yokohoma, Nagoya and Sapporo, which are all populated by more than 2 million people. 

However, Tokyo, Japans Capital City and the largest city in Japan, has an approximate population of 37 million people. 

To rent a one-bedroom studio apartment in Tokyo, you’re looking at spending in the region of $1,370 a month, or $111 a night in an Airbnb. 

Eating out varies in price, but as an average for one person, you should be looking at spending around $15.00 for a basic meal and around $6.00 for a beer.

8. Norway – $2,659

Located in Northern Europe, Norway is a Scandinavian country with a total population of 5.3 million people. 

Norway shares its borders with Sweden, Russia and Finland, and has a total landmass of 385,203 km².

It’s only the 171st most densely populated country on earth, with roughly 14 people for every square kilometre. 

Rent is expensive in Norway’s capital, so renting a one-bedroom studio apartment in Oslo, will set you back around $1,193 a month, or $85 a night in an Airbnb. 

You won’t have much change left from $15 when buying a meal out, and a beer will set you back around $9.11.

7. The Bahamas – $2,704

The next most expensive country in the world to live in is The Bahamas. 

Made up of over 700 islands, the Bahamas has an approximate population of 389,482 million people living across its 13,943km² landmass. 

The largest city in the Bahamas is Nassau, with a total population of 255,000. 

If you’re thinking about visiting the Bahamas, then you should budget approximately $950 a month for a one-bedroom studio apartment in the city, or $149 a night for an Airbnb. 

You’ll need to take at least $50-$100 with you when you go out for a meal and some drinks, as a basic meal costs around $15-$20 and a beer will cost you around $2.50. 

Coffee is a little on the expensive side, at around $5 each. 

6. Luxembourg – $2,751

One of the smallest countries on our list, Luxembourg, is also one of the smallest sovereign nations on the planet, and it won’t leave you with a lot of wiggle room when it comes to your monthly expenses. 

Luxembourg is a landlocked country, located in western Europe, and has an estimated population of 620,319 people. 

Its population is small compared to other countries on the list, however, it has roughly 207 people per square kilometre, making it the 67th most densely populated country on earth. 

When you arrive in Luxembourg City, you can expect to pay around $1,322 per month for a one-bedroom studio apartment, or $80 a night in an Airbnb. 

Luxembourg seems like it’s slightly more expensive than the Bahamas when it comes to luxuries like beer and coffee, as one beer will cost you around $9 and coffee will set you back $6. 

Eating a basic meal out will cost between $17-$25 for one person depending on what you order. 

5. Iceland – $2,802

Coming in at number five on our list of the most expensive countries in the world is Iceland. 

Iceland is located between the North and Atlantic Oceans and has a total surface area of 103,001 square kilometres. 

However, Iceland’s population of 339,949 people, remains relatively low in comparison to others on our list as its harsh geographical landscape proves difficult to live in for many, at times. 

As a result, Iceland has the lowest population density of any European country, at just 3 people per kilometre. 

Staying in Iceland will cost you approximately $1,236 a month for a one-bedroom studio apartment in the capital city of Reykjavik, or $128 a night in an Airbnb.  

Whilst you’re there, eating out will cost you around $12 for a basic meal, $8 for a beer and $2.15 for a cup of coffee.

The southernmost Nordic country in Northern Europe, Denmark, is the fourth most expensive country to live in worldwide. 

Denmark, bordered by Germany, Sweden and Norway has a total current population of 5.7 million people. 

The Scandinavian countries capital city is Copenhagen, which has an urban population of 1.2 million people, and a metropolitan population of 1.99 million.  

Known as one of the happiest places to live on earth, Copenhagen is also a very expensive city to live in.

For a one-bedroom studio apartment, you’re looking at $1,917 a month, or $96 a night in an Airbnb.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

• The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
• Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
• These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The Lady Moura's most notable feature, though, is unquestionably the distinctive, sand-covered hydraulic platform that slides out of one side of the boat and can be adjusted to sit precisely at the water's edge. For a truly realistic experience, this floating oasis also features palm trees in addition to natural sand and deck chairs as Beautiful Life describes .

13. Al Mirqab - $250 Million

This yacht construction began at the German shipyard Peters Schiffbau Wewelsfleth, whereby Tim Heywood designed the yacht's exterior, and Andrew Winch Designs designed the interior. She is made of steel, has a maximum speed of 23 knots, and can cruise at 21 knots. It has ten guest cabins that can accommodate 24 people, plus two VIP suites for the yacht owner. The spacious suites each have a living area, a double bedroom, and a bathroom. The yacht has a 60-person crew. The onboard amenities include a theater, outdoor bars, an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, and a helicopter pad. The former Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, is the owner of Al Mirqab.

12. Dilbar - $256 Million

The German shipyard Lürssen launched the superyacht Dilbar on November 14, 2015, and delivered it in 2016. It is the third-largest yacht by volume, with a gross tonnage of 15,917. The Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov is the owner of this superyacht. The yacht is 511 ft long, has a 78-ft width, and has a 20 ft draft. An aluminum superstructure complements the teak decks and steel displacement hull of Dilbar. It bears his mother's name and is one of the world's biggest boats, measuring 360.89 ft. The millionaire owner frequently uses it to travel to his private islands. The Dilbar has adequate room on deck for 20 guests and a crew of 48. It also has a helipad and many swimming pools.

11. Pelorus - $300 Million

In 2003, Pelorus debuted after being constructed in Germany's Lurssen shipyard . Tim Heywood, a well-known yacht designer, created her, and millionaire, real estate developer, and chairman of Prudential Enterprises from Hong Kong owns it. She has a length of 377 ft, a 56 ft beam, and two 12V-26 engines with a combined 5500 horsepower that can propel her to a top speed of 19 knots. Additionally, she has two helipads, a landing craft, and jet skis.

10. Serene - $300 Million

Serene is an Italian-built vessel designed by Reymond Langton Design and delivered to her owner in August 2011. Russian billionaire Yuri Scheffler is the proud Serene owner and has become a popular rental option for the ultra-wealthy, reputedly costing billionaires like Bill Gates over a million dollars each week. She has an overall length of 439 ft and a beam of 60 ft, making her one of the biggest yachts in the world. Around 24 guests and 52 staff members can sleep on board, and Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia purchased it in 2015. It has a submarine, two helipads, several pools, and a panoramic underwater observation room.

9. Al Said - $300 Million

The Sultan of Oman owns the luxurious yacht Al Said. In 2006, Lürssen received a request to build a boat. During construction, the vessel was known only as "Project Sunflower." It was launched in September 2007 by Lürssen Shipyard, making her the second-longest yacht in the world.

8. Radiant - $320 Million

Lürssen constructed the Radiant motor yacht in 2009 for Abdulla Al Futtaim, an Emirati millionaire. The Radiant has an overall length of 360.89 ft and a beam of 53.5 ft. Her two MTU 16V 1163 TB73L diesel engines each produce 8,715 horsepower, while her fuel tanks have a capacity of 360,000 L (95,000 US gal). It offers terrific amenities like zero-speed stabilizers, an elevator, a swimming pool, a beach club, a helicopter landing pad on the top deck, a massage room, a swimming platform, a tender garage, a gym, and a movie theater.

7. Dubai - $400 Million

Dubai was constructed in collaboration with the German shipyards Blohm+Voss and Lürssen and put into service in 1995 under various project names. Before 1996, the yacht builder intended it for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei; however, the client terminated the purchase agreement the following year. Its current owner is Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Platinum by Andrew Winch nicely complements the interior furnishings. It has a length of 531 ft and a beam of 72 ft.

The yacht has a squash court, a lobster tank, a submarine, 20 water bikes, and a disco. Eight decks make up the Dubai, accommodating up to 88 crew members and 115 passengers. The four MTU-20V diesel engines, which have a combined output of 6,301 kW, can propel the ship at a top speed of 26 knots. Dubai's 1.2-million-liter fuel tanks provide for an 8,500 nautical mile range.

6. Motor Yacht A - $440 Million

The Blohm + Voss shipyard produced this impressive-looking 390 ft superyacht in 2008. Andrey Melnichenko, a philanthropist and billionaire businessman from Russia, is believed to be the owner. It is one of the largest motor yachts in the world, measuring over 6,000 kilograms and 390 ft in length. It is propelled by two MAN RK280 diesel engines, each producing about 9,000 kW, enough to drive the boat at a top speed of 23 knots. At her cruising speed of 19 knots, she can cover a distance of up to 6,500 nautical miles before running out of gasoline in less than sixteen days. A is furnished, outfitted, and staffed to the degree that is exceptionally sumptuous for a mega yacht.

5. A+ - $527 Million

This magnificent superyacht, A+, which Lürssen built, is ranked number five. It was previously known as Topaz. Twin Pielstick diesel engines with 7990 horsepower each serve as the primary propulsion system. With this much power, the yacht can travel at a service speed of 22.9 knots and a top speed of well over 25.5 knots. The yacht weighs 11,589 gross tons and is 482 ft long and 70.5 ft in beam. It has zero-speed stabilizers, a deck Jacuzzi, two helicopter landing pads, a swimming pool, a garage for the tender, a swimming platform, air conditioning, and underwater lights. The ship has an eight-deck design, an aluminum superstructure, and a steel displacement hull. The manufacturers initially constructed the yacht in a 554-foot dry dock. However, the manufacturers had to move it to a 720-foot dry dock to finish building it. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan owns it.

4. Azzam - $600 Million

The largest yacht ever built is this 590-foot mega yacht. The President of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan owns this vessel. Lürssen Yachts, one of the most luxurious yacht builders, constructed the Azam. It is the world's fastest and longest private motor yacht, measuring 590 ft in length. It has a 68-foot beam and a concise draft of 14 ft. A combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines with a combined output of 47,000 hp through four pump jets may propel it at a speed of more than 32 knots. Two of the pump jets have movable duct water outlets on either side of two non-movable, spherical water outlets in the center of the stern that can be used for thrust vectoring.

3. Streets of Monaco - $1 Billion

The Streets of Monaco is a theme park designed to resemble Monaco's opulent city-state in the Mediterranean. It has exact copies of famous locations, including the Monte Carlo Casino, Hotel de Paris, La Rascasse, and even a swimming pool that resembles a beach. This floating mini-city, whose construction is expected to cost more than $1 billion, is the creation of the unproven firm Yacht Island Design, known for creating eye-catching designs that never make it past the design stage. Even still, a lot of thought went into this grandiose farce.

2. Eclipse - $1.5 billion

The fourth-longest vessel at sea is the Eclipse, a superyacht constructed by Blohm+Voss in Hamburg, Germany. Terence Disdale created both her exterior and interior. Roman Abramovich bought this beauty on December 9, 2010. Until the introduction of the 56-foot longer Azzam in April 2013, Eclipse was the longest private yacht in the world at 533 ft. Self-defense systems, a missile detection system, and missile launchers for security are part of the security implements on board the Eclipse. By 2009, Eclipse was also an enormous ship using a Magnus effect-based rotor-based stabilization system to combat roll motion at anchor and slow cruise speeds.

1. History Supreme - $4.8 billion

Supposedly owned by Malaysia's richest billionaire , Robert Knok, the History Supreme is the most expensive yacht in the world. Solid gold flanks the yacht from hull to stern. Stuart Hughes, a well-known luxury designer from the United Kingdom, created the 100 ft vessel, which took three years to build and weighed 100,000 kg of genuine gold and platinum. The main bedroom features a wall made entirely of meteorite pebbles and an actual Tyrannosaurus Rex bone statue. A 24-carat gold AquaVista Panoramic Wall Aquarium is also located in the master suite as if that weren't enough. The constructors took three years to build this 100-foot engineering marvel. However, no one has spotted this yacht on the high seas. Probably because of the covert nature in which the yacht sails.

Lying at the centre of Octopus ' go-anywhere design is a two-storey wet dock that functions as the explorer yacht's very own mini-marina. Two main tenders are stored and launched through a giant transom door, while the floodable dock is accompanied by rows of smaller toy garages. The list of paraphernalia includes (but is not limited to) a Triton 3300/6 submersible; a 9.3-metre Vikal limousine tender; a custom 8.7-metre Zodiac for diving; an array of WaveRunners, Jet Skis, kayaks, surfboards, wakeboards, kitesurfers, windsurfers and electric foil Fliteboards.

Ahpo | 115.1m

Curves, leaves, waves and bamboo – Ahpo 's impressive spa was designed by interior outfitter List but guided by all things Gaia. Found on the lower deck, it encompasses a plunge pool, a Himalayan salt sauna, a Hamman and a massage room, each decorated with nature-themed mosaics and twinkling fibre optics in the ceiling. The wellness space also features its own hair salon, a fountain carved from ivory and onyx and a backlit statement wall, made by pressing artificial bamboo between two glass panes.

Faith | 96.6m

Originally commissioned for Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll, Faith is one of Feadship 's largest launches to date. Up on the bridge deck, her spa centre is a crowd-pleaser with its massage room, Hammam and walk-in snow room (with a porthole view). The snow room is Captain Luke's personal favourite: "Where else can you build and dress a [1.2-metre] snowman during winter in the Caribbean when it’s 35 degrees outside? Not only is it loads of fun for everyone, the health benefits are also amazing." Said benefits include metabolism stimulation, improved sleep and pain relief.

Savannah | 83.5m

Savannah 's semi-submerged Nemo Lounge provides a view like no other. Delivered in 2015 by Feadship , it also represents one of the most technically impressive feats of yachting engineering to this day. The underwater glazing is fixed in one of the most stable parts of the yacht and flanked by stadium-style seating for spotting marine life above and below the waves. It also functions as an indoor cinema, fitted with a drop-down screen that covers the glass wall.

Leona | 80m

Leona 's beach club leans into an extravagant Hellenic aesthetic with its marble features and gilded-gold details. Reproductions of statues of Aphrodite of Milos and other nymphs and goddesses, made by a local sculptor, stand tall above the 8.7-metre by three-metre pool. Set underneath fibre-optic lights to give the appearance of a starlit sky, the statues sit on water outlets and complement the geometric Greek key pattern, which serves as a fresco on the walls of the beach club. In 2024, Leona won at the BOAT Design & Innovation Awards in the category of Outstanding Exterior Design. 

Excellence | 79.9m

One of the most distinctive yachts delivered in the past five years, Excellence 's extreme reversed bow and extensive use of glass make for a spectacular sight on the water. Her interiors are airy and bright as a result, with natural light filtering through Winch Design 's beautiful, triple-height glass atrium. Enclosed by five metre-tall vertical glass panels, the atrium rises from the main deck all the way up to the owner's deck. 

Owning the largest single-masted sailing yacht in the world has its advantages. Attached to the owner's cabin is M5 's dedicated, L-shaped library, whose rows of books (and complementary L-shaped sofa) provide a cozy, residential feel. In 2019, the room underwent a refit, receiving new overheads, floors, and an updated colour scheme.

With teak decks wide enough to jog around, Joy is all about exterior living. And the superyacht makes great use of the space with some top-tier sporting facilities, including a basketball and badminton court set forward on the owner's deck. She was built for a "young owner" with an active lifestyle and so also features a large gym and dedicated spa (for some post-exercise restoration).

Grey | 49.8m

Per her owner's wishes, Grey 's foredeck features a glass-sided superyacht swimming pool made complete with a high-luminosity cinema setup worth around   $298,000. Flanked by sofa seating, the area also includes integrated speakers and a surround-sound system courtesy of British-French brand Focal and Naim. The screen is also capable of completely retracting and folding away.

The 5 Most Expensive Superyachts in the World

Though superyachts are already among the most costly consumer items available for purchase, the prices of the most expensive superyachts in the world are still astounding. In recent decades, those with money to burn have settled on these floating palaces as an ideal locus for demonstrating their prosperity, and as such, the global superyacht industry is undergoing a golden age. The world’s über-wealthy think of their superyachts as toys, and they’re constantly trying to outdo each other in scale, design, amenities, materials, and sheer profligacy.

Knowing this, what features does it take to own one of the most expensive superyachts in existence? And how much do these opulent vessels actually cost? To that end, AD has compiled a list of the five priciest superyachts currently out on the water. As with many things connected to the very wealthy, details are shrouded in secrecy—often intentionally—to protect privacy or to shield the assets from taxation or seizure. Below, dive into the five reportedly most expensive superyachts in the world.

5. Dubai ($400 million)

This 531-foot yacht is reportedly owned by United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai. Though it was originally planned for another Middle Eastern potentate, Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, he suddenly voided the contract in 2001. With exteriors designed by Andrew Winch and interiors by Platinum Yachts, this German-built Blohm + Voss vessel features several Jacuzzis, a pool inlaid with handmade mosaic tiles that is reportedly large enough to hold 115 people, a circular staircase, a discotheque, squash courts, a movie theater, a dining room for 90 guests (the other 25 presumably have to eat in the pool?), a helipad, and a submarine.

4. Topaz ($527 million)

Resembling a stealth bomber, this 483-foot ship is reportedly owned by Russian fertilizer and coal oligarch, Andrey Melnichenko. With exteriors by Tim Heywood Design Ltd. and interior designs by Terence Disdale Design, this German-built Lürssen Yacht features a 2,500-square-foot primary bedroom, six guest suites (with moveable walls so they can be transformed into four grand staterooms), glassware and tableware fashioned from French crystal, a helicopter hangar, a 30-foot speedboat tender, and three swimming pools, including one with a glass-bottom dangling menacingly above a disco.

3. Azzam ($600 million)

This 590-foot ship is currently thought to be the largest private yacht in the world and one of the fastest, with a top speed of 35 miles per hour. To achieve this immense scale and speed, it required a pair of gas turbines and two stratospherically potent diesel engines, rendering it very difficult to build. It is reportedly owned by a member of the royal family of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. With exteriors by Nauta Yacht and interiors by French decorator Cristophe Leoni, this yacht was also built by Lürssen in Germany. The vessel is set apart by its early 19th-century empire-style veneered furniture, as well as its state-of-the-art security systems including a fully bulletproof primary suite and a high-tech missile deterrence capabilities.

2. Eclipse ($1.5 billion)

In addition to being the second-costliest, this 533-footer is thought to be the world’s second-largest private yacht. Owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the ship was claimed to be located in Turkey and may be impounded as part of the United Kingdom’s sanctions against Russia. Designed by Terry Disdale and built by Blohm + Voss, it features two-dozen guest cabins, two swimming pools, two helipads, and multiple hot tubs. For privacy and security reasons, it hosts a missile detection system, bulletproof windows in the primary bedroom and on the bridge, an anti-paparazzi shield and, when all of that fails, a mini-submarine that can take a few VIPs 164 feet under the ocean’s surface.

1. History Supreme ($4.8 billion)

History Supreme has never actually been seen in a major port, and rumors suggest that the yacht may not be real, and instead just a publicity stunt. Reportedly owned by Malaysia’s richest man, Robert Kuok, and designed by Stuart Hughes in the UK, the yacht is only a paltry 100 feet long. Its worth is said to be derived from its lavish finishes, including a statue constructed from genuine Tyrannosaurus rex bones, a liquor bottle embedded with an 18.5-carat diamond, and a primary bedroom with one wall made from meteorite and another from a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium. Most Expensive Sailboats: Top 15 in the World

Whether you’re planning a summer cruise, a spring cruise, or a fall trip, you should be aware of your options when it comes to selecting the best sailboat available.

Some folks would rather take to the sea in a luxurious yacht. Some people opted for an exclusive voyage on a luxury ship. Others, like you, like to travel by sailboat. A sailboat is a vessel that is powered wholly or partially by sails. They are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and features. These most expensive sailboats, on the other hand, are nothing like ordinary sailboats.

This countdown list is here to assist you! We gathered information about the top fifteen most expensive sailboats in the world specifically for you. Some are the largest sailboats, the most expensive to build, or have the most exclusive features.

Ludynosa G – $9.2 million

We begin with Ludynosa G, an auxiliary sailing yacht built in 2005 by Fitzroy Yachts in New Zealand. It is now on the market for €8.25 million (approximately $9.2 million). Are you curious?

Dubois Naval Architects created the exterior. And the interior design was done by Redman Whiteley Dixon. It can accommodate up to ten passengers in four elegant cabins, including a full-width master suite. Six crew members can board the ship and stay in one of three available crew cabins to cater to the needs of those guests.

For those who want tanned skin, there is a sunpad above the pilot house. There is a large shaded al fresco dining area under the cockpit’s bimini for dinner parties.

This sailboat is propelled by a 700-hp Caterpillar engine that can reach speeds of up to 14 knots on the water. This boat measures 37.5 meters in length and 8.2 meters in beam.

Bliss – $13.25 million

Following that is a sailboat that is currently for sale for €11.9 million (approximately $13.25 million). Yachting Developments, another New Zealand company, built it in 2010.

Dubois Naval Architecture created the exterior of Bliss, and Design Unlimited created the interior. The two did an outstanding job, and the overall design was recognized as one of the best by the Showboats Design Award. It can transport up to eight passengers in three separate cabins. And five crews are available to meet the needs of those guests.

The high performance of this auxiliary-sloop-styled boat distinguishes it. It is one of the few sailing yachts that can go fast. It is, in fact, the ideal Bucket racer.

Bliss is propelled by a 510-hp Caterpillar engine, which is one of the most popular engines for high-performance world cruising. It measures 36.8 meters in length and 8.4 meters in beam.

Lady B – $20 million

Dubois Naval Architects created Lady B’s exterior. Rhoades Young Design created a contemporary interior with a summerhouse vibe, including the light split-level salon.

Vitters Shipyard in the Netherlands built this auxiliary-sloop boat five years ago. It underwent a lengthy refit that was completed just last year. This sailboat is propelled by a 750-hp Caterpillar engine that can reach speeds of up to 13.5 knots on the water. This boat measures 44.7 meters in length and 9 meters in beam.

It can accommodate up to seven passengers in one master suite, two double cabins, and one convertible study room. Six crews are available to meet the needs of those guests.

Lady B is currently on the market for €17.9 million (approximately $20 million). For those who want to sail on this boat without purchasing it, it is available for charter during the summer (on the Mediterranean Sea) and winter (on Caribbean sea). Its weekly charter fee ranges between €88,000 and €100,000.

Meteor – $28 million

There is no need to worry if you want to own an exclusive sailboat because many of them are for sale. Meteor is one of them. Edmiston & Company of Monaco is asking €25 million (approximately $28 million) for it.

Meteor’s exterior was designed by John G. Alden and John Munford and was built by Royal Huisman in 2007. Munford, along with Pauline Nunns, was also in charge of the interior design. One of its most notable features is the library, which is made entirely of mahogany.

Meteor can accommodate up to six passengers in one master suite and two twin cabins. And nine crews are available to meet the needs of those guests.

Meteor can reach speeds of up to 14.6 knots when fully charged. It measures 51.59 meters in length and 9.24 meters in beam.

Meteor is also available for charter if you want to try it out before buying (or even if you aren’t interested in buying). They will charge you from $126,000 for a week of cruising in both the summer and winter.

Panthalassa – $33.4 million

Panthalassa is a beautiful 184-foot (56-meter) ketch-rigged sailing superyacht built by Perini Navi. The boat has cruised the Caribbean’s Windward and Leeward Islands, as well as Cuba and the Bahamas. The sailing yacht is equipped with luxurious amenities to ensure a relaxing on-the-water experience.

Yacht for sailing Foster & Partners created Panthalassa’s curving light-filled cabin, which truly puts this boat in a class of her own. A beautiful central oval staircase, an open-plan concept that effortlessly connects the internal and outside spaces, and six guest cabins of nearly equal size are among the design features.

The luxury sailing boat can accommodate a total of 12 guests, and the six cabins are incredibly versatile, with different berth arrangements available, making her ideal for a wide range of guests. Leather-paneled walls, tan leather couches, silk rugs, and marble bathrooms are featured in each of the yacht’s staterooms. With the support of two Caterpillar 1,239 hp diesel engines, the modern ketch can reach speeds of up to 15 knots.

Panthalassa includes a floating bar in the main salon, and the dining room easily turns into a professional boardroom if you need to take business onboard. The dining room can be converted into a cinema room, which is ideal for after dinner entertainment.

Only the super wealthy can afford this exquisite yacht. The Panthalassa has a current asking price of 19,500,000 Euros ($22,026,323 USD) or a charter rate at a cool $200,000 – $225,000 per week.

Vertigo – $50 million

I’m not sure if the term literally describes this costly sailboat. I sincerely hope not, because dealing with seasickness will be difficult enough without adding vertigo to the mix.

Vertigo is the world’s tenth largest sailboat, according to its 67-meter length. Since its launch in 2011, it has been the largest yacht manufactured in the Southern Hemisphere by Alloy Yachts of New Zealand.

Philippe Briand designed the building’s façade. Christian Liaigre Interior Design designed the interior. Its loft-style interior creates an urban-at-sea ambience. Its elegant surfaces and furniture with natural black-and-white leather or tan linen tell the story.

It can accommodate up to twelve people. Those guests should not be concerned if the wind is strong. Glass screens have been fitted to keep them safe while sunbathing.

This boat is estimated to cost $50 million to build. This, as well as the boat’s technical specifications, are not revealed in any document.

M5 – $50 million

M5 (formerly Mirabella V) is a sloop-rigged superyacht that was launched in 2004. It is the largest single-masted yacht ever built, measuring 78.4 meters in length. In general, it is the world’s sixth largest.

This sloop was built by Southampton-based Vosper Thorneycroft (VT Shipbuilding). For Joe Vittoria, Ron Holland created the outside design. It was owned for seven years by an American yachtsman until he sold it.

Luciana Vittoria created the interior design. Then, with $50 million in his pocket and fresh ideas for the boat, a new buyer arrived. As a result, some modifications, including the name, were made.

The boat was also 3.2 meters longer. The interior design for the refurbishment was handled by Redman Whiteley Dixon. It can now accommodate up to twelve people since its relaunch in 2013.

Pilar Rossi – $65 million

Pilar Rossi, the world’s 11th largest sailboat, is ranked eighth on our list. This boat is 64.35 meters in length. When Alucraft built it for Formula One icon Nelson Piquet in 1989, it was only a 33-meter long motor yacht.

Nelson’s uncle then entered the picture. Mauricio Piquet was a naval architect by chance. He modified Pilar Rossi into a sailing trimaran with Vincenzo Ruggiero and Alberto Mercati. Outriggers and two masts were added. Formula Yacht Spars in England created these unique extra features.

The whole cost of the boat, including the massive refurbishment, is estimated to be over $65 million. It could have been considerably greater if they had recruited non-family members to complete the work.

Pilar Rossi’s interior was created by Nelson’s wife, Viviane Piquet. She set up enough cabins to sleep up to eighteen people. Nelson may require such room when cruising with his seven children.

Sybaris – $70 million

Sybaris is the world’s seventh most costly yacht and eighth largest sailboat, as well as Perini Navi’s second largest. What causes it to be so? It stretches for 70 meters in length. The construction cost is projected to be around $70 million.

Philippe Briand designed the building’s façade. PH Design was in charge of the interior design. Sybaris is a relatively new platform, having debuted early this year. Bill Duker, who owns several superyachts, had it built by Perini Navi.

Two MTU 16V 2,000 M72 diesel engines power this yacht, which can reach speeds of 17.5 knots on the water. It can accommodate up to twelve people in six private cabins. And eleven crews can be brought on board to cater to the demands of those guests.

The name Sybaris is derived from a Greek drakaina noted for his hedonism. Does it seem about right? It’s also the name of a location in Magna Graecia, Italy, called for the drakaina .

Athena – $70 million

Athena is a clipper-bowed three-masted gaff rigged schooner built by Royal Huisman in the Netherlands for James H. Clark twelve years ago. Despite its estimated value of $95 million, it is currently on the market for €62.42 million (about $70 million).

Pieter Beeldsnijder (in conjunction with Dykstra Naval Architects) designed the exterior of Athena, while Rebecca Bradley designed the interior. It can accommodate up to ten people in five luxurious cabins. Twenty-one crews can board to cater to the needs of those guests.

The dive locker, library, on-board Jacuzzi, and movie theater are all available aboard this magnificent vessel. Above all, you have access to a crow’s nest with a 360-degree bird’s eye view to ensure the boat does not collide with the iceberg.

Two 2,000-hp Caterpillar engines power this yacht, which can reach speeds of up to 19 knots on the water. The length is 90 meters, and the beam is 12.2 meters. As a result, Athena is the fifth largest sailboat in the world.

Ahimsa – $80 million

The world’s tenth largest yacht, Ahimsa, enters the top five of our most costly sailboats list. Since its inauguration in 2011, it has been the largest one manufactured by Vitters, Netherlands, with a 66-meter length.

Ahimsa’s length isn’t the only thing that makes her stand out in terms of size. Its sophisticated sloop rig is among the world’s tallest. Furthermore, due to its size, its 83-meter carbon fiber had to be carried in two halves from Southern Spars to the Netherlands.

In addition, this boat houses the world’s largest canvas painting. Magne Furuholmen, a Norwegian artist, created a unique sail art piece. Whiteley Dixon, the interior designer, may have had something to do with it. Dubois Naval Architects was in charge of the external design.

A massive composite rudder from Green Marine is fitted to this yacht. This incredible function allows Ahimsa to drive and navigate with incredible precision.

Aquijo – $85 million

Aquijo, the world’s third largest sailboat, is ranked fourth on our list. Vitters and Oceanco collaborated to create this one-of-a-kind vessel. You should be able to see why it cost $85 million to construct.

There isn’t a lot of information on Aquijo that has been made public. However, we do know that this 85-meter-long boat was built in the Netherlands last year by two Dutch shipyards. To create this gigantic yacht, they all collaborated closely with the present owner, who is also unknown.

We also know that Bill Tripp designed the outside and Dölker + Voges created the inside. Due to the high-volume superstructure, the interior arrangement enables unobstructed sight lines.

Aquijo is said to be quite sophisticated, according to them. It is, nonetheless, a performance-oriented sailing machine.

Sea Cloud – $100 million

Hussar V, Angelita, Patria, and Antarna were all names given to Sea Cloud. This boat has been to many places and witnessed many things, including the atrocities of World War II.

That is the age of this yacht. Krupp Germaniawerft shipyard Kiel, Germany, built it in 1931. Sea Cloud was chartered by the United States Armed Forces during World War II with the name Hussar V.

It was reverted to private ownership after the war. It was known as Angelita because it was owned by Rafael Trujillo, the dictator of the Dominican Republic. To cut a long story short, it was purchased from Clifford Barbour in 1978 and rebuilt. This procedure cost over $100 million to complete.

Cox & Stevens created the Sea Cloud design. It can accommodate up to thirty-four people. And sixty personnel can be brought on board to cater to the demands of those guests. Sea Cloud is available for a luxury charter at any time if you are interested.

This boat is not only the third most expensive, but it is also the world’s largest, with a length of 96.35 meters.

Eos – $111 million

We’re on the verge of announcing the world’s most costly sailing yacht! First, let’s look at the runner-up.

Eos is 82.6 meters long, but it is 92.93 meters long when you include its bowsprit. It’s no wonder that it’s the fourth largest sailing yacht in the world, given its size. The Lürssen launched this high-priced sailboat in Bremen, Germany, in 2006. It took three years to build. The price tag is expected to be around €100 million (around $111 million).

Barry Diller, a movie and media mogul, had this three-masted rigged schooner built for him and owned it. This truth, however, was hidden during construction. We already knew that Langan Design created the outside and Francois Catroux designed the interior.

Royal Huisman had it refurbished five years ago. After catching fire on its first sail after being refitted, it was returned to the yard for repairs. Up to sixteen people can be accommodated. During the sad event, none of them were hurt.

Maltese Falcon – $150-300 million

Perini Navi’s largest sailboat, the Maltese Falcon, brings this list to a close. With a length of 88 meters, it is also the world’s second largest.

Tom Perkins, a late American venture capitalist, had this ship-rigged sailing luxury boat built for and owned by him. Perkins said it cost more than $150 million but less than $300 million in an interview in 2007. We could only guess because he refused to give us more details.

Elena Ambrosiadou is its current owner. Up to twelve people can be accommodated. Twenty-two staff can board the ship to cater to those visitors’ needs. On water, it has a maximum speed of 24 knots.

Perini Navi and Gerard Dijksrta designed the outside of the Maltese Falcon, while Ken Freivokh designed the inside. Freivokh integrated a high-tech and industrial chic motif in its interior design to complement this high-priced boat’s sophisticated technologies.

The late Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Paul Allen commissioned and owned the Octopus. A year after Allen’s death, the Octopus went on sale. The new owners are, unfortunately, unknown.

16. Rising Sun

10. Al Said

Owner: A member of the royal family of Oman Price: $300 million

This is the world’s highest displacement superyacht featuring a displacement of 15,850 tonnes. While Espen Oeino credits the vessel’s exterior design, RWD designed its interior. It was built in 2008 by Lürssen. Though named after Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, the late Sultan of Oman, it is owned by an unnamed Omani royal.

With a colossal 505 feet in length, the luxurious vessel sleeps up to 70 guests and 154 cabin crew. Details of its elegant fixtures and fittings are not known. However, one of its most known and comfortable features is a concert hall big enough to accommodate a 50-piece Orchestra.

Additionally, it has a maximum speed of 25 knots since it is fitted with twin diesel 11,149hp MTU engines.

Owner: Abdulla Al Futtaim, an Emirati businessman Price: $320 million

Radiant is another Lürssen-built superyacht. Aside from the standard amenities like spa and helipad, the Radiant is particularly famous for its security features. It has an escape launch, a turbo-powered speedboat, and even sonic guns and military-military grade water cannon!

Owner: Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Price: $400 million

Owner: Jeff Bezos, ex-Amazon CEO Price: $500 million

Billed as the world’s largest sailing yacht, Koru is 417 feet long and features three masts that provide plenty of wind power when the wind is blowing as opposed to the typical diesel-powered yachts owned by other billionaires. It’s no secret that Bezos wants to slow climate change, already having advocated for naming the new hockey arena in Seattle the Climate Pledge Arena while at Amazon.

Lürssen built the Topaz or A+ in 2012. It is also one of the largest luxury yachts, with a colossal length of 482 feet. It has a maximum speed of 23 knots thanks to the 7,990 HP engine.

Topaz features underwater lighting, a conference room, air conditioning, and a large Jacuzzi. It also has an aluminum superstructure with eight viewing decks, double helicopter landing pads, a movie theatre, and a modern gymnasium.

Owner: Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, Emir of Abu Dhabi Price: $600 million

The Azzam is the world’s largest megayacht, with a whopping 180.61m LOA. Despite its large size, this 2013 Lürssen-built superyacht manages to be one of the fastest as well. Its four-engine system puts out 35,048 kW of power, propelling the extravagant vessel to a maximum of 30 knots! Other impressive feature of the Azzam is its bulletproof master suite.

Fun fact: The original plan for the Azzam is 145 meters. However, the design grew to optimize the structure and accommodate the yacht’s complex engines.

12. Nord – $300 Million

Nord is a massive superyacht built by German shipbuilding company Lürssen in 2021. It was initially named OPUS. According to Forbes, the yacht is currently valued at $300 million.

The yacht’s construction was done under the supervision of Moran Yacht, a private yacht dealership based in Florida. Both its interior and exterior designs were carried out by an Italian naval design firm, Nuvolari & Lenard.

The superyacht is fitted with state-of-the-art zero-speed stabilizers that reduce roll while being anchored or not underway. It features amenities such as a swimming pool, spa, a tender garage, and two helicopter landing pads, one on the top deck and another on the bow.

Nord is owned by Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov, the chairman and majority shareholder of the biggest steel and mining company in Russia – Severstal.

Specifications :

At 142 meters in length, Nord is one of the largest superyachts in the world. It has a volume of 10,154 gross tonnage or gt. It can accommodate a maximum of 36 guests at a time.

The vessel is powered by four MTU engines and has a cruising speed of 15 knots or 28 kph.

11. Pelorus – $300 Million

Pelorus is the oldest superyacht on this list and has a rich history. Since its completion in 2003, the vessel has changed hands several times.

Pelorus was initially ordered by a Saudi businessman named Sheikh Abdul Mohsen in 1999. The construction started in the year 2000 and entered service two years later in 2003.

However, the yacht was sold to the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich within a year of its launch. As a new owner, Roman Abramovich made several modifications to the superyacht, which included adding a second helicopter pad.

In 2011, Pelorus was bought by David Geffen for about $300 million. But he sold the yacht after a brief period to sultan Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of UAE.

The superyacht changed ownership again in 2016. Its current owner is Samuel Tak Lee, a Hong Kong-based real estate billionaire.

At 115 meters in length, Pelorus is perhaps the smallest superyacht on this list, but it is still a gigantic vessel. For perspective, the total length of an entire football field is 110 meters. It has a volume of 5,317 gt.

Pelorus has a cruising speed of 14 knots or 26 kph and a reported maximum speed of 20 knots (37 kph).

10. Dubai – $400 Million

Builder : Blohm+Voss Owner : Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

‘Dubai’ is a superyacht owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and the vice president/prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. It is currently the tenth most expensive superyacht in the world.

Until 2009, it was the largest private superyacht in the world but was surpassed by Eclipse, Azzam, and Fulk Al Salamah.

The yacht is built by Blohm+Voss, a German shipbuilding company best known for producing the German battleship Bismark during World War II. Blohm+Voss was acquired by the Lürssen shipyard in 2016.

Dubai superyacht is designed by renowned yacht designer Andrew Winch along with interior designer firm Platinum Yachts.

The superyacht carries a helipad, two motorboats, water bikes, and a submersible. Amenities include a large dining room, swimming pool, a movie theater, and disco.

At a length of 162 meters, Dubai is currently the fourth largest private superyacht in the world. It has a tonnage of 13,470 gt. Dubai superyacht is powered by four MTU diesel engines, each delivering 8,479 hp. It has a maximum speed of 26 knots (48 km/h) and a range of 8,500 nmi (15,700 km).

The superyacht has a maximum capacity of 115 guests with 88 crew members.

9. Eclipse – $438 Million

Eclipse is a massive superyacht owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. He is currently the 13the richest individual in Russia and made his wealth through the steel industry and other investments.

After its launch in 2009, Eclipse became the world’s largest private yacht. However, it has been surpassed by Fulk Al Salamah and Azzam in recent years.

Eclipse was built by Blohm+Voss, three years after the Dubai superyacht, in 2009. Its estimated cost is around €340 million.

The superyacht accommodates about a dozen of luxurious cabins for guests, two helipads, an entertainment hall, and a mini-submarine that can submerge up to 50 meters below the surface.

While it is clear that Eclipse is no ordinary superyacht, what makes it truly stand out from the rest is its military-styled missile defense system that detects and fires missiles at possible threats.

The yacht also features an ‘anti-photo shield’ for enhanced privacy. When activated, the shield detects a CCD sensor (closed coupled device) and fires a shot of laser in its direction to destroy any photographs. However, the effectiveness of such technology remains debatable .

Eclipse has a length of 162.5 meters and a volume of 13,000 gt. Its beam is 22 meters, and the draft is 5.9 meters. The vessel is powered by four MTU diesel engines and has a maximum speed of 22 knots or 40.7 km per hour.

It requires about 70 crew members to serve all the guests. Eclipse was last seen at a small village port in Turkey.

8. Flying Fox – $455 Million

Builder : Lürssen Owner : Dmitry Kamenshchik

The Flying Fox is a luxury yacht built by Germany’s Lürssen shipyard in 2019. It is perhaps the world’s largest and most expensive yacht available for charter. A week-long vacation on this superyacht would cost you about $4 million.

This spectacular vessel is a result of collective design work from interior designer Mark Berryman and renowned superyacht architect Espen Oeino . Apart from the Flying Fox, Mr. Oeino is known for his work on other superyachts such as Silver Fast and Octopus (owned by Microsoft’s co-founder Paul Allen).

Like most modern superyachts, the Flying Fox is primarily centered around wellness and watersports themes. Its exceptional tender garage carries nearly every water sports equipment from hoverboards and seabobs to windsurfs and flying boards. Moreover, it also carries a personal submarine that can be launched using a crane.

Often regarded as a ‘floating resort,’ the superyacht has guest suits, a two-level saloon space, a specialized gym, multiple fireplaces, and lots of greenery.

But perhaps its most eye-catching feature is the 12-meter deck pool with adjustable height floor, massage jets at one side, and swim jets at the other. Moreover, the yacht also carries a cryosauna which can help you emulate the post-workout endorphins rush.

Due to the sheer size and splendor of the Flying Fox, it was speculated that the yacht was owned by Jeff Bezos (the world’s richest person in 2019).

However, in 2022, it was revealed that the actual owner of the yacht is a Russian oligarch named Dmitry Kamenshchik.

The Flying Fox measures 136 meters in length and 9,022 gt in internal volume. It has a beam of 22.5 meters and a draft of 5.1 meters. It is currently the 22nd largest yacht in the world by length.

The superyacht requires a crew of 55 (including four chefs) to serve a maximum of 25 guests at a time.

While the Flying Fox is privately owned, it’s managed mostly by superyacht brokerage house Imperial Yachts.

7. Solaris – $474 Million

Solaris is a giant superyacht owned by Roman Abramovich. It is perhaps the most expensive yacht in his possession. At a length of 138 meters, Solaris is smaller but a more expensive and luxurious yacht than Eclipse.

The superyacht features amenities including a Jacuzzi, sauna, a gym, entertainment center, an office, and custom-built lounge areas. It also carries several high-speed jet skis and even a submersible for adventurous guests who want to explore the ocean.

Apart from the luxuries, Solaris has some of the most impressive and up-to-date security features to prevent any crisis situation. It is fitted with bulletproof windows, armored cabins, and a radar-controlled missile detection system. The yacht also has the ice-breaking capability.

Solaris was built by Lloyd Werft, a German shipyard that went bankrupt in 2022.

The overall internal volume of Solaris is about 11,000 gt. It has a total of eight decks with a capacity of 36 guests and 60 crew members onboard.

Solaris is powered by two high-tech marine propulsion units called Azipod, which consists of an electric motor driving a fixed pitch propeller. It is mounted on a steerable pod that allows the vessel to be more maneuverable.

6. A+ (formerly Topaz) – $527 Million

Builder : Lürssen Owner : Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The next in the line of most expensive superyachts is called A+. It was built by Germany’s Lürssen yachts for about $527 million. The yacht was initially named ‘Topaz.’

A+ is currently owned by Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the deputy Prime minister of UAE.

The exterior of the ship was designed by renowned yacht designer Tim Heywood. For interior design and decorations, Lürssen hired Terence Disdale, a U.K-based specialist design firm that has worked on several superyachts, including Pelorus, Tatoosh, and Ecstasea.

The superyacht has eight decks, three swimming pools, two helicopter landing pads, a jacuzzi, and a theater, among other amenities.

In 2020, A+ was embroiled in a global scandal after reports surfaced that it was partially financed by embezzled funds from Malaysia’s 1MDB sovereign wealth fund.

At 147 meters, A+ is currently the world’s tenth largest yacht by length. It measures 11,589 gt in volume. The main structure of the vessel is made of aluminum.

A+ is powered by two French-made Pielstick diesel engines, each producing 7990 hp. The yacht has a cruising speed of 22.9 knots, while it can reach a maximum speed of more than 25 knots.

5. Serene -$550 Million

Launched In : 2011

Builder : Fincantieri Owner : Mohammed bin Salman

Serene is currently the fifth most expensive yacht in the world. It was built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri initially for Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, who made his wealth through his alcoholic beverage empire.

Serene’s interior design and decoration were carried out by Reymond Langton Design, an independent design studio specializing in luxury yachts. The estimated manufacturing cost of the yacht is around $330 million.

After its completion in 2011, Serene was among the ten largest private yachts in the world. However, it is currently ranked 21st. It has a bunch of ultra-luxurious amenities, including a large seawater pool, spa, a nightclub, a full-scale library, and a helipad. There is also an underwater viewing room.

Yuri Shefler sold the superyacht to Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman for about $550 million in 2014. A few months before this transaction, Serene was rented by Bill Gates for a fee of $5 million a week .

In 2019, a report stated that Salvator Mundi, the world’s most expensive painting , was stored inside the yacht. However, it was never confirmed.

Salvator Mundi is one of the most iconic paintings made by Leonardo da Vinci. It was sold for a whopping $450 million ($497 million adjusted value) at Christie’s auction house in November 2017.

The superyacht has a moderately large internal volume of 8,230 gt and a total length of 134 meters . Instead of a single large propeller, it is fitted with two controllable pitch propellers. Serene has a total of seven decks with 12 guest cabins and 30 crew cabins.

4. Sailing Yacht A – $578 Million

Builder : Nobiskrug (Former) Owner : Andrey Melnichenko

A sailing yacht differs from a typical motor yacht as it uses sails as a primary method for propulsion. A or sailing yacht A is actually a sail-assisted motor yacht with a hybrid powerplant and three mast sailing rig. It is the largest sailing yacht in the world.

Sailing Yacht A is designed by renowned French industrial architect Philippe Starck, who has worked for brands such as Adidas, Hilton International, and a bunch of private entities. The yacht is owned by Andrey Melnichenko.

With a gross tonnage of 12,558 gt and a length of 142.81 meters, the sailing yacht A is perhaps the largest yacht of its type. The beam and draft lengths are 24.8 meters and 8 meters, respectively.

The vessel features an underwater observation pod with 30 cm thick glass. The cruising speed of sailing yacht A is 16 knots (39 km/h) and has a range of 9,890 km.

3. Dilbar – $588 Million

Builder : Lürssen (Former) Owner : Alisher Usmanov

With a price tag of nearly $590 million, Dilbar is currently the third-most expensive yacht in the world. It was built by Lürssen Yachts for Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. The yacht is named after his mother.

Usmanov is one of the richest Russian oligarchs, who made his wealth through steel, telecom, and investments after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Dilbar is not just your regular large yacht. It is currently the third-largest (by gross tonnage) and sixth longest motor yacht in the world ( the third-longest built by Lürssen). Apart from other luxuries, the superyacht has two helipads and a huge indoor pool.

According to the U.S Department of Treasury, Dilbar’s estimated worth is between $600 million and $735 million . The annual maintenance cost for this gigantic ship is about $60 million.

Dilbar superyacht was among the many private assets owned by Russian billionaires that were seized by foreign governments in 2022. The yacht was impounded by the German authorities at Hamburg port in April 2022.

At 15,917 gt, Dilbar is the second largest private yacht in the world by gross tonnage after Fulk Al Salamah , owned by the Omani Royal Family.

The length of the superyacht is 156 m. For perspective, the total length of a football field is 110 m or 360 ft. It has a beam of 24 m and a draft of 6.1 m.

Dilbar has a cruising speed of 18 knots (33 km/h) and a maximum speed of 22.5 knots (41.7 km/h).

2. Azzam – $605 Million

Builder : Lürssen Yachts Owner : Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE (Until his death in May 2022)

Azzam (Arabic word for ‘Resolute’) is a luxury superyacht built by German yacht maker Lürssen. The construction of the yacht was personally ordered by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates.

The superyacht is a remarkable piece of engineering in more than one way. It took Lürssen about three years to complete Azzam’s construction after an entire year of design work. The vessel has a shallow draft of 4.3 meters. It is currently the longest motor yacht in service.

The total manufacturing cost of Azzam is estimated to be around $600 million making it the second-most expensive private yacht in the world.

After the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in May 2022, it was reported that Azzam was listed for charter.

Azzam’s recorded length is 179.9 m, which is about 17 m more than Eclipse’s. It is powered by two diesel engines and two gas turbines, each producing 23,500 hp.

The reason behind History Supreme’s sky-high value is the amount of gold and other precious metals that are used on its body. The yacht has over 100,000 kilograms of gold and platinum from top to bottom.

The vessel is constructed by a small German shipyard Peters Werft and is designed by a pair of renowned yacht designers – Andrew Winch and Tim Heywood.

Al Mirqab has two VIP or owner suits and 10 additional suits for guests. It can serve up to 24 guests at a time. The amenities include a jacuzzi, a swimming pool, and a helipad.

The superyacht has a total of eight decks with 13 guest suites and a private owner’s deck. Amenities include a gym, a spa, an entertainment center, and a basketball court. Moreover, it has not one but two helipads.

‘Octopus’ was designed by Espen Oeino and Seatle-based interior designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett. During its construction, Paul Allen asked the designers to build a vessel capable of conducting long expeditions and even rescue operations on top of having leisure amenities onboard.

It is equipped with two mini-submarines and a remotely operated underwater vehicle or ROV for underwater research and rescue operations.

In December 2018, the yacht underwent an overhaul at Blohm+Voss shipyard for over seven months. In 2021, the yacht was reported to be bought by an anonymous buyer for £200 million .

It takes about three to four years to build an entire custom superyacht. While it takes less time to construct a vessel on a pre-developed platform with standard elements, building a customized superyacht that caters to all your requirements takes more time. You also have to take unexpected delays into consideration.

The Current International Market for Luxury Superyachts

The yacht industry is on the rise, and the demand for luxury superyachts has exploded in the last few years during soaring stock markets and crypto gains. Most of the demand is from the United States.

In 2022, Italian authorities seized the yacht in the port of Trieste over EU sanctions placed on a number of Russian businessmen in light of the war in Ukraine .

He was on holiday celebrating his 50th birthday with his family when he heard about the sanctions .

Shortly after they were announced, Melnichenko resigned as a member of the board in both EuroChem and SUEK and stepped down as their beneficiary.

Alex Andreev, a spokesperson for Melnichenko said: “There is no justification whatsoever for placing him on the EU sanctions list,

“We will be disputing these baseless and unjustified sanctions, and believe that the rule of law and common sense will prevail.”

These 3 lesser-known cruise lines offer amazing voyages on sail-powered ships

There is nothing quite as magical — or romantic — as a cruise on a sailing ship.

To stand on the deck of a vessel topped with dozens of billowing sails, propelled through the waves by the power of the wind alone, is to go back in time to an earlier age of travel, when crossing the world's oceans was as adventurous as it was challenging.

It's an experience that's all about the feeling of the wind in your hair, the lean of the vessel (known as the heel) as it's pushed by the wind and the sway from the waves (which is actually smoother than what you get on a motor ship).

In contrast to what you'll find on so many motor-powered ships, cruising on a masted ship is about the simple thrill of traveling across the sea and not about all the many attractions you'll find on board.

Only a handful of small cruise brands — so small that you might never have heard of them — offer trips on sailing ships. Here, we look at the three biggest players in this niche subset of the cruise industry.

Sea Cloud Cruises

If it's an authentic, old-style sailing experience you want, then Sea Cloud Cruises is the line for you. The Germany-based company operates three large sailing ships where the sails are unfurled by hand, just as they were on sailing ships centuries ago.

On the biggest of these three vessels, the 136-passenger Sea Cloud Spirit , 18 deckhands scurry high into the rigging on sea days to manually untie and prepare the sails, an amazing sight. Unveiled in 2021 , it's a full-rigged, three-masted sailing ship of the sort that hasn't been common on the world's oceans for more than a century.

Sea Cloud Cruises' two other vessels — Sea Cloud 2 and Sea Cloud — are smaller but offer a similar show as the sails are set by hand the old-fashioned way. The former is a 23-year-old, three-masted barque propelled by 23 sails (five fewer than Sea Cloud Spirit); the latter is a 93-year-old, four-masted barque with 30 sails and a storied past.

Now configured to carry 64 paying passengers, Sea Cloud was originally the private yacht of Postum Cereals heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and her husband, the famed financier E. F. Hutton. At the time, the vessel was the largest private yacht in the world. It later served the U.S. Navy as a weather ship during World War II, after which it became the presidential yacht for the Dominican Republic. It only began sailing as a cruise vessel in the 1980s.

If you have money to spare, you can still book Post's opulent private quarters on Sea Cloud, now its owner's suite. It'll set you back around $5,000 per day per couple. Her husband's slightly smaller quarters are also available to book at a similar rate.

Post, the wealthiest woman in the U.S. during her lifetime, notably also built Mar-a-Lago, the massive estate in Florida that is now the official residence of Donald Trump.

Sea Cloud Cruises is the most all-inclusive and upscale of the three brands listed in this story, with pricing to match. Expect to pay nearly $1,000 per person per day or more for many sailings.

Sea Cloud Cruises' three vessels offer a diverse array of sailings in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Canary Islands and Morocco, the Caribbean or along the west coast of Central America.

Windstar Cruises

Founded in the 1980s, Windstar Cruises got its start as a sailing ship line. While it now operates traditional motor-powered ships, too, voyages on sailing ships are still a big part of its business.

Three of the Seattle-based brand's six vessels — Wind Spirit, Wind Star and Wind Surf — are sailing vessels, and they all offer a similar yacht-like, small-ship experience.

Two of the three vessels (Wind Spirit and Wind Star) are particularly intimate, measuring 5,407 tons and carrying just 148 passengers with every berth full.

The line's third sailing vessel, Wind Surf, is nearly three times the size at 14,745 tons. It's one of the biggest sailing ships in the world (only a sister vessel that sails for Club Med is bigger). Wind Surf carries 342 people, an enormous number for a sailing ship.

Unlike on the vessels operated by Sea Cloud, the sails on Windstar's sailing ships aren't unfurled by hand in the old-fashioned way but by the push of a button from the bridge. It's a fully automated system that is much more modern, if less dramatic.

Still, the experience of slicing through the waves by the power of the wind alone on Windstar ships is as glorious and romantic as it is on the Sea Cloud ships.

Windstar Cruises is less all-inclusive and pricey than Sea Cloud but still offers a relatively upscale experience. Its dining program is done in partnership with the food-focused James Beard Foundation, which also brings James Beard Award-winning chefs to the ships regularly for food-themed itineraries.

For an extra $89 per person per day, passengers can also make the experience more all-inclusive with included Wi-Fi, unlimited beer, wine and cocktails, and gratuities (three things that aren't included in regular fares).

The line's three vessels typically spend nearly all of their time sailing in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean or along the west coast of Central America.

Star Clippers

Like Sea Cloud and Windstar, Star Clippers operates three sailing vessels that are among the biggest and most elegant sailing vessels in the world.

The belle of the ball at the line is Royal Clipper, a stunning five-masted ship that is billed as the largest square-rigged ship in the world. Its enormous array of 42 sails has a sail area of 56,000 square feet — significantly more than the sails atop any of the Sea Cloud or Windstar vessels. (Only Sea Cloud Spirit comes relatively close with a sail area of 44,100 square feet spread across 28 sails.)

Built to resemble Preussen, a legendary tall ship of the 19th century, the 24-year-old Royal Clipper shares the spotlight at Star Clippers with two smaller sister vessels, Star Flyer and Star Clipper.

Carrying 166 passengers apiece, the smaller vessels were designed to resemble the speedy clipper ships of the 19th century, which were known for their narrow profile and large sail area. Each vessel has a sail area of 36,000 square feet spread across 16 sails, a large amount for the size.

When it comes to the setting of sails, Star Clippers vessels offer a level of old-style authenticity that is in between the ships of Sea Cloud and Windstar. Like on Sea Cloud vessels, the sails are pulled into position by a team of deckhands using hand power and winches to tighten the "sheets," or ropes.

Unlike on Sea Cloud vessels, the deck hands don't climb high into the rigging to untie and prepare the sails for winching. That part is done automatically at the push of a button from the bridge, as it is on Windstar vessels.

In one key difference, though, Star Clippers lets passengers harness up and climb into the crow's nest of its vessels — a thrilling experience. Just be prepared for your knees to go a bit wobbly as you get to the top; it's way up there.

Star Clippers sailings are the most affordable option among the three sailing brands, in part because the onboard experience is less all-inclusive and upscale.

The three Star Clippers vessels mostly operate sailings in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and along the west coast of Central America.

Bottom line

It's still possible to get a taste of what traveling the world's oceans was like in the days before motor power. Three small cruise companies — Sea Cloud Cruises, Windstar Cruises and Star Clippers — offer voyages on large sailing ships that are as majestic as anything that has sailed the seas in centuries past.
