BELOW DECK MED Natasha Webb prior yacht crash details

Below Deck Med chief stew Natasha Webb prior boat crash details

The entire Below Deck Med Season 7 crew had a harrowing moment early in the charter season when the S/Y Home lurched dramatically after the super yacht’s stabilizers went out. The experience was particularly harrowing for chief stew Natasha Webb because she had a very similar — but much worse — experience on a previous yacht.

“I’ve been on a boat that fell on its side, so I’ve got, like, quite bad PTSD,” Natasha explained soon after the stabilizers were repaired and the clean up had begun. “So this is really screwing with me right now.”

Natasha then shares some specific details about her experience as Bravo shares frightening photos of a large yacht turned on its side beside a dock.

In 2019 I was on a 90-meter yacht, and the boat tipped on its side. I just remember crying, thinking, ‘This is it. I’m going to die.’ I called to start taking names of the crew lists, and people weren’t answering. There were electrical smells, fuel spilling everywhere. I couldn’t even get out of the door; I tried. The crane craned off three people at a time. We were really lucky that nobody died. I’m a person in general to put on a brave face. You carry on. You have no other choice, otherwise, you’re gonna fail.

MY Nero Yacht Crash Details

The superyacht that fell on its side was the 90-meter M/Y Nero. The incident happened at the Amico & Co refit yard in Genova, Italy during drydock operations in September of 2019.

There were initial reports of several people being injured, four of them seriously. However, Dohle Yachts soon issued a press release and clarified that there were no serious injuries:

At 1530 hrs local time on 10th September 2019 at Amico Shipyards Dock number 1 in Genoa during drydocking operations, MY NERO listed to port and came to rest at an angle of about 30 degrees within the dock. The yacht did not contact the dock wall and appears to have suffered only minimal damage though the surveys and inspections are ongoing. There has been no pollution or risk to the environment. The crew safely left the yacht after the incident and there were no serious injuries sustained. As managers of MY NERO we are working closely with the team onboard, the shipyard and all relevant authorities to rectify the situation. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Amico & Co also issued a press release with details about what happened and the injuries sustained by the crew members:

On the 10th September at around 3pm, Motor Yacht Nero, situated in Dry-dock n.1 managed by Ente Bacini in Genoa Port for the purpose of undergoing maintenance works with Amico & Co, listed during the pumping out phase of dry-docking, for reasons that are yet to be ascertained. Emergency services, coastguard, fire services, Ente Bacini and Amico & Co emergency responders intervened immediately. Six crew members sustained slight injuries and were immediately assisted at the dry-dock facility; five of these were taken to the hospital for further tests and were then all released from the hospital during the course of the evening. The vessel is now in a stable condition and inspections and operations to secure it are ongoing.

superyacht-charter-tipping-guide

How much should you tip crew on a superyacht charter?

It's customary to tip the crew at the end of your luxury yacht charter holiday. So what is the accepted tipping amount? And how should gratuity be given? If you're confused about tipping protocol on board a charter superyacht, read our tipping guide...

What is the accepted amount to tip?

In general, brokers advise tipping between 5 to 20 per cent of the base charter fee, depending on the yacht and the location. It is usually towards the lower end of that scale in the Med and higher in the US and Caribbean .

Are there any official guidelines?

In the 2000s, problems started to arise when generous charterers began to tip 25 per cent or more. The situation became difficult when crews started expecting large tips and were disappointed —sometimes audibly — with lesser amounts.

As a result, the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) issued tipping policy guidelines, which listed 5-15 per cent as the customary range.

These guidelines now seem to have taken hold as the accepted norm and also provide a charterer with a reference point beforehand. By asking your broker if the yacht supports the MYBA recommended guidelines, you’ll know what is expected.

Do I have to tip in cash?

Generally, tips are given in cash to the captain but there are other methods of tipping too. Maggie Vale from Churchill Yacht Partners explains: "If there are Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) funds remaining after the charter, I advise my clients to leave this with the captain, as he is already holding it, then add any amount they would like to that."

"Alternatively, clients can wire gratuity ahead for the broker to hold in escrow to avoid carrying a large amount of cash. After the charter is over, the client will let me know how much to release to the crew (based on any leftover APA) and I can wire the difference back to the client," advises Vale.

How should I decide what percentage to give?

When deciding on what percentage of the base rate to give you should take into account that a charter crew normally works 16-18 hour days from dawn to midnight. As in all aspects of life, a tip should be proportional to the service you have received.

Is there a tipping etiquette?

Yes, all tips should be given directly to the captain so that they can divide the amount out between all the crew. It is important to remember that there may be crew that have worked just as hard as others but have been less visible during your trip.

Can I tip some crew more than others?

Although it maybe be tempting to try and specifically recognise a member of crew that has gone out of their way to make your trip special this is not advised.  All the crew work as a team and therefore should be rewarded as such. Regardless of the size of the tip, it will be distributed across the entire crew anyway.

‘Below Deck’ Tip Tally: Here’s How Much Money The Yachties Make

'Below Deck' Exclusive Clip: Barbie Pascual Refuses To Change Her Signature Margarita Recipe For Fraser Olender

'below deck' chief stew fraser olender has a "love interest" of his own this season: "i've always been a third wheel", 'wwhl': captain sandy yawn reveals what she misses about former 'below deck med' chief stew hannah ferrier years after her controversial firing, former 'below deck' charter guests hit choppy waters as they are charged with identity theft in prescription drug scheme.

While it’s always fun to watch the shenanigans of rich people during their charters, the highlight of Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean is when those groups shake the hands of the crew members and get the heck off the boat. One, because that means we’re about to see the yachties head out for a night of their own shenanigans, and two, we’re going to learn how much money the charter guests dropped for a tip (and subsequently, if they are total cheapskates).

The yachties will often talk about how a charter season is a good way to make a lot of money (in exchange for a lot of hard work) and if you’ve ever wondered exactly how much money that is, well, we went back and added it all up.

That’s right, we tallied the total tips per season, and the total tips per person as well. Now, some of these numbers may be slightly off due to a number of reasons: often, especially for Below Deck Med , the tip is left in Euros and we converted it to US dollars. Also, especially in earlier seasons, either the total tip or the tip per person was not disclosed in the episode so we did the math ourselves. Again, this wasn’t an audit, but just a curious look at what our favorite yachties were taking home after a season of cleaning, sweating, and entertaining.

First up are the total tips per season. As you can see, the crew in Below Deck Season 5 truly killed it, earning the most ever on the show with $168,000 that season, about $15,170 per person. Over on Below Deck Med , the most recent group in Season 4 did their best yet, collecting $155,000 this season, for a total of $14,320 per person.

As so many yachties express over the course of a season, the tip comes down to the service, and especially the food. So which chef impressed the stomachs, and the wallets, of the guests the best? Chef Matt Burns collected the biggest tip ever on a charter during Season 5, Episode 14 of Below Deck when the guest left $30,000 for the crew. Now, that guest happened to be Timothy Sykes, who had previously appeared on the show during Season 2 and infamously took back some of his tip when handing it over to Captain Lee. It’s safe to say, this tip made a much better impression on Captain Lee and the crew.

It’s also worth noting that the second-highest tip collected in series history belonged to third-stew-turned-chef Anastasia Surmava, who earned a sweet $27,000 after the charter with Daniel and Sheree Funsch, during Episode 6 of this past season of BDM . And right behind her was her relief chef of the season, Ben Robinson, who scored the crew $26,000 during Season 4 of Below Deck , Episode 12 when returning guest Dean Slover put his money where his mouth was.

Plus, chief stews Hannah Ferrier and Kate Chastain are so often compared as they lead their respective series with hard work and even witter catchphrases, but how do their tips stack up? We learned that over her five seasons on Below Deck , Kate has racked up about $66,314 dollars, which is an average of $13,262 a season, while Hannah has collected $51,162 over four seasons in the Med, about $12,790 per season.

As we say goodbye to our crew from Sirocco as Below Deck Med closes out its fourth season, we have plenty of reasons including drama, hookups, more drama, and yes, tips, to look ahead at the new season of Below Deck setting sail next week on Bravo.

Below Deck Season 7 premieres Monday, October 7 at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo.

Yacht life definitely pays.

Week after week on Below Deck , viewers see the crew clean up with giant wads of cash left behind by the charter guests as a "tip" for their work -- and chief stewardess Kate Chastain tells ET, it's not faked for reality TV.

"On a yacht of that size, [a good tip] would be $5,000 a person, for seven days of work," she reveals. "Five grand a crew member, usually. Our charters are a little bit shorter, just so we can make the show, [but] everything else is exactly the same. So, it's prorated. We usually get around $2,500, $2,000. Anything less than $1,000 would be depressing, which sounds crazy, doesn't it?"

Below Deck charters typically last two or three days, but Kate says the crew puts in the equivalent of five days of work to jam-pack the experience with a week's worth of fun.

"We're working not just eight-hour shifts, it's like, we're working pretty much around the clock," she notes. "All the days start to blur together. And during the tip meeting, Captain Lee [Rosbach], will say what we got and I'm always like, 'Is that good? I don’t know anymore… $3,000, are we happy with this?'"

To put this in perspective, those tips are on top of a fee for charting the yachts. Kate previously revealed to ET that it costs about $150,000 a week to take over the ships.

The tips come on top of a regular salary, which differs based on job. A chief stew, reportedly , earns between $62,000 and $75,000 per charter season on a Below Deck -sized yacht (most of the vessels on the show are in the 150-foot range). Second and third stews would make about $50,000 a season, a chef between $70,000 and $95,000, while a captain would earn $120,000 or more, a bosun about $52,000 and deckhands between $40,000 to $52,000.

Kate says there is one part of the tip process seen on the show that might just be for TV -- how the tip is delivered. On the show, the crew stands in line to send off the guests, with the primary charter guest handing over an envelope of cash to Captain Lee. Kate notes that the lineup is standard, but the envelope handoff isn’t.

"There's always a lineup, just 'cause it's polite," she says. "Like, even in Downton Abbey , they all line up. So, I think it's a tradition that’s been around for hundreds of years, but sometimes, I think, instead of traveling with so much cash, they wire the money."

"So, it's not as dramatic," she continues. "But I've had charters where we anchored in the British Virgin Islands, the guests had left, we're eating leftover lobster, drinking leftover champagne, counting our stacks of cash. I felt pretty special at that moment."

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

Can Yachts & Sailboats Tip Over & Sink? (Explained)

' src=

Yachts can tip over, and they can sink just like any other type of boat . However, some yachts can capsize and sink more easily than others. The size of the yacht and the draft plays an important role when it comes to capsizing.

Let’s talk about exactly how and when yachts may capsize and sink.

We’ll also talk about what you can do if you’re unfortunate enough to be on a yacht that has capsized or sunk.

Table of Contents

Capsizing – How it Happens For A Yacht

There are a few different factors that will determine whether or not a yacht capsizes.

The main three factors are:

  • The amount of force placed on the vessel
  • The center of gravity of the boat
  • Whether or not waves are approached correctly.

1) Too Much Force on The Sail

A sailing yacht has large sails meant to take a great amount of force without being destroyed.

These massive sails provide the power a sailing yacht owner needs to move their large vessel.

In most cases, the force of the wind upon the sail will lead to some heeling.  The amount of heeling that the boat undergoes will depend on how skillfully the boat is sailed, the amount of wind being applied to the sail, and the design of the boat.

Knockdowns Vs. Capsizing

When too much force is applied to the sail, the boat’s heeling motion will usually compensate for this, and the wind will run over the sail.

However, in extreme cases, the boat may heel too far and too fast, and the sailboat will be knocked down.

2019 superyacht tipped

A knockdown is different from a capsize in that the boat falls on its side but does not flip completely over.

Knockdowns aren’t as bad as a capsize because the boat is usually still functional after a knockdown.  However, a knockdown is still dangerous because the boat’s passengers can fall into the water.

If all of the boat’s passengers fall into the water, there will be nobody left in the boat to pick them up.

Sometimes a knockdown is so extreme that it turns into a capsize.

This is when the boat is completely flipped over.  In this case, every passenger above deck will be thrown into the water, and the passengers inside will have to get out of the boat or hope that the boat rights itself quickly.

In many cases, a sailing monohull boat will right itself after a knockdown.  This is because the boat should be designed with capsizing in mind.  Boats with more than one hull will not right themselves after capsizing, but we’ll discuss that in more detail further along in this article.

2) Poor Center of Gravity

One aspect of a yacht that will determine its susceptibility to capsizing is its center of gravity.

A yacht with a higher center of gravity is much more likely to capsize than a yacht with a lower center of gravity.

In all likelihood, the yacht you buy will have a well -designed center of gravity.

This is especially true if you’ve purchased a Category A boat with a deep V that is meant for navigating rough waters.

A ballast tank will usually be built into the hull of the boat .  This tank lets water into the hull to add weight to it.

In addition to the ballast tank, some boats will have weights that are used as ballasts.  These weights are typically made of lead and can be used with or without a ballast tank’s presence.

3) Weight Distribution Plays An Important Role

Improper loading of a yacht can lead to poor weight distribution.  Poor weight distribution throws off the boat’s center of gravity and increases the chances that the boat will capsize.

For this reason, yacht owners must know how much weight their boat can hold so that they do not overload it.

It’s also important that the weight that is added to the boat is evenly distributed throughout the boat.

The yacht owner may also want to consider putting heavier items down low as too much weight at the top of the boat can also lead to improper weight distribution.

4) Strong Waves Approached Incorrectly

Motor yachts and sailing yachts are both impacted by incoming waves.

A wave must be approached correctly or it could easily knock down or capsize a boat.  The smaller the boat, the more important it is that the boat approaches the wave correctly.

In fact, according to Boat U.S. Magazine , when a breaking wave of equal or greater height than a boat hits the boat from the beam side, it will always roll it at least 130 degrees past parallel.

How to Approach (Big) Waves In A Yacht

A yacht, or any other boat for that matter, should approach waves at the bow or stern side.

This keeps the boat more stable and allows it to work with the wave rather than against it.

Ideally, you’ll take the waves at the bow, but if it is a choice between the stern and the beam, you’ll always want to choose the stern.

This is important in order to ride the wave correctly. Otherwise, you will not be in full control, and you might end up taking in water or eventually experience tipping over.

Some Types of Yachts Capsize (And Sink) More Easily Than Others

2019 superyacht tipped

Monohull owners have a disadvantage over catamaran and trimaran owners in that their boat can capsize and sink more easily.

This is because the one-hull design makes them less stable and because they only have one hull, there isn’t any redundancy in case of a hull breach.

If you haven’t yet considered whether to get a catamaran or a monohull boat, you need to read our pros and cons list of catamarans compared to monohull boats . It’s everything you need to consider before you choose what’s right for you.

Also, a monohull usually sits deeper in the water, so it is more likely to hit objects that could cause a hull breach.

This is especially true in shallow water and around reefs.

On the other hand, once a catamaran or trimaran yacht does capsize, it cannot right itself.  A monohull yacht can usually right itself after it capsizes.

What Happens After A Boat Capsizes?

When a boat flips over, it immediately begins to fill up with water.

Anything that was on the deck goes into the water, and anything inside the cabin begins to fly around and will eventually float as water enters the cabin.

People who were on the deck are now in the water, and people inside of the boat are now upside down.

It can be very disorienting for these people, and they may be too injured to make their way out of the boat.

Monohulls In a Capsize

Monohull passengers will probably be flipped back over shortly after they are knocked down.

The biggest danger for these people is the fact that they may be injured.  This is especially true if items were left out or hatches were left open.

For example, one open kitchen drawer could lead to knives flying around the cabin during the capsize.  Even if all of the cabinets and items inside the boat were secure, the passenger could still be injured from falling.

If the passenger were in the forward cabin, they would be less likely to be injured since this cabin is often a berth consisting of only a bed.

Multi-hull Yachts During a Capsize

As we stated earlier, a multi-hull is not going to right itself.

Also, it can be a long fall off of the deck during a capsize because of its wide stance.

For instance, a 50-foot catamaran could have a width of 26 feet.

This means that a person on the deck could end up falling 26 feet into the water during a capsize.  They could hit the mast or any number of other items protruding off the deck on the way down.

The people inside the cabin will be upside down, and they’ll need to get out of the deck or hull that they’re in.

Some yachts will have escape hatches that the passengers can use to safely get out of the hulls, while others may not.

How To Best Prepare For Capsizing

2019 superyacht tipped

Sometimes the weather or a wave catches a sailor off guard, and there isn’t any time to prepare for a capsize.

There really isn’t much you can do at this point.

Other times, the weather changes, and the water becomes rough, and you know that there is a higher likelihood that the boat could flip over.

In this instance, you should make sure everyone has their life preservers on.  You should also take down any bimini tops.

The reason for this is that people could get trapped under or within them after the boat capsizes.

You’ll also want to make sure everything on the boat is secure and that there aren’t any unlatched lockers or hatches.  This will help prevent you from getting hit by your equipment during a capsize and keep water from entering the cabin.

It will also keep your stuff in your boat when you flip.  If you’re boat rights itself quickly, you won’t have lost anything.

In some cases, you may want to keep everyone out of the cabins.  The cabins can become incredibly difficult to get out of after the boat has flipped over, and people can drown inside them.

For this reason, it may actually be safer to be up on deck when the boat does capsize.

What to Do After a Yacht Capsizes

The first step if you’re still in the boat is to get out as quickly as possible.

Ideally, you’ll already have a life jacket on, so you won’t have any excuses for delaying.

Once you’re out of the boat, you’ll want to try to stay with it.  A capsized boat is much easier for rescue crews to spot than a person floating in the water.

Also, a capsized boat can still make a great flotation device, so if possible, you could climb back up onto it.  This is especially true if your yacht is a catamaran as it won’t be as difficult to climb back onto, and you won’t have to worry about it righting itself while you’re on top of it.

Being on top of the boat reduces your exposure to the water and any marine life that may wish to do you harm.  Depending on where you’ve capsized, there may be a genuine threat of a shark attack.  If one of the passengers has become injured and is bleeding, this will only increase the chances.

If it’s safe to do so, collect any supplies that you might need.

Water bottles, flares, and extra life jackets could become extremely helpful in an emergency situation.

In fact, the Coast Guard recommends that you tie any extra supplies to the boat as it creates a larger target for rescue crews to see.  You won’t be able to swim back to shore so your best hope will be that someone is able to find and rescue you.

Will The Yacht Sink Completely?

It is rare for a boat to sink completely, but it is certainly possible.

In most cases, this happens for one of two reasons:

  • Hull breaches
  • The boat filling up with water.

Sometimes the boat filling up with water is known as the boat swamping.

A boat can fill up with water because its hull was breached, or it could happen for other reasons.

For example, a capsized monohull could continue to take on the water until it eventually sinks.

Common Reasons For Hull Breaches

A hull breach is when the hull is physically damaged and a hole or large crack opens up in the hull.

This can happen during collisions with:

  • Other boats,
  • Large rocks,
  • Or The ground itself.

Basically, any obstruction that is large enough and hard enough to damage the boat’s hull can cause a hull breach.

When a hull breach does occur, it can cause the boat to take on water.

In some cases, the water incursion will be slow enough that the bilge pump can pump the water out, and the hull might be stable enough that the boat does not sink.

In other cases, the hull breach could be so large that even a large boat can sink.

The Titanic is a classic example of this. This ship was large enough that 4 forward compartments could have flooded without the boat sinking.  Unfortunately, six forward compartments were flooded, and 2 hours and 40 minutes after the Titanic was hit, it sunk into the water.

How To Avoid Boat Swamping

A boat can be swamped for all sorts of reasons.

One reason that some boat swamp is because the boat owner has taken the drain plug out.

A small trailerable yacht could have a drain plug and the boat could end up filling up with water shortly after it leaves the boat ramp.

Another reason could be that the bilge pump has failed, and the yacht is under the stress of a heavy storm bringing with it a lot of water in the form of waves and heavy rain.  Send enough sea water into a yacht and it will eventually begin to swamp.

In this case, it is recommended that the yacht crew close all hatches so that water cannot get below the deck.  This way, the water brought onto the boat by large waves will simply roll off the deck.

A boat could also swamp if the transom were to come off.  In this case, water would come in through the stern and could certainly swamp the boat.

Swamped boats won’t always sink.

If the boat has flotation built into it, it should be able to stay afloat.  However, larger boats are not built to survive a swamping so it is entirely possible that they will eventually sink.

What to Do If Your Boat is Sinking?

The first step you’ll want to take is to make sure you have your life jacket on.

Once you hit the water, it will become difficult to get it on, and you may not even be able to find one at that point.

Immediately following this, you’ll want to put out a distress call.

Hopefully, there will be other boats in the area that can rescue you before your boat actually sinks.

After this, you may want to see if you can stop your boat from sinking.  If there is a hull breach, you may be able to plug it.  A broken bilge pump may be able to be repaired, or water might be pumped out manually.

If this isn’t possible, you might want to try to get the boat to an area where it will not completely sink.  For example, if your hull was breached because of shallow water, you could leave the boat in the shallow area and stay on it until help arrived.

Once it is apparent that the boat will sink, you may want to grab as many supplies from the boat as you can.  Just don’t risk going beneath the deck to do so or you may get stuck there.

You also need to be aware of horn signals. Here’s a great guide to horn signals for boats , so you know exactly what to do.

Final Thoughts

The chances of a yacht sinking or capsizing are very low.

You can lower these chances even further by avoiding bad weather and other dangerous situations.

If you do happen to capsize or sink, take the appropriate steps and you should be able to survive until help arrives.

BDSY: Biggest Tips in Show History & $30,000 Tip Explained

BDSY: Biggest Tips in Show History & $30,000 Tip Explained

Below Deck Sailing Yacht ‘s first four seasons produced some very big tips from wealthy charter guests willing to blow tens-of-thousands of dollars to reward the hard work of Captain Glenn Shephard ‘s ever-changing Parsifal III crew. However, the biggest tip to date in the spinoff show’s history came from Primary Charter Guest Bryan Gaurnieri , and his gay friends Craig Lowry Shreve and Wickliffe Shreve , Madison Stutts and Erik Robert Funderburk. The group gave one of the biggest tips in all of Below Deck history at $30,000 USD while on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 . Let’s take a look at how much money each crew member made from this giant tip and the other top tips from the last four BDSY seasons. We’ll also take a look at how much money cast members made on each season of BDSY .

Biggest Tips In Below Deck Sailing Yacht History: $30,000 Tip Explained

Primary Charter Guest Bryan Guarnieri and his friends wave goodbye after giving the BDSY season 4 crew the biggest tip in the spinoff show's history

Primary Charter Guest Bryan Guarnieri and friends after giving the crew the biggest tip in show’s history (Bravo).

Avid Below Deck fans already know Primary Charter Guest Bryan Guarnieri is hard to please. His obnoxious list of demands, including a ten-course meal on his preference sheet , while sailing in Sardinia, Italy , is reminiscent of his previous trip on the original Bravo yachting show. In Below Deck season 8, Bryan, Craig and Wickliffe chartered My Seanna in Antigua . Hot-headed Chef Rachel Hargrove briefly quit during the preference sheet meeting because of his four pages of demands . She ended up knocking off Bryan’s socks, leaving him crying and giving Captain Lee Rosbach’s crew a $25,000 tip, which divided into $2,250 a piece.

Chef Ileisha Dell similarly delivered five-star delectable cuisine in BDSY season 4. The entire crew embraced the LGBTQ+-themed charter, especially First Officer Gary King and deckhand Chase Lemacks when they danced in speedos and rainbow-colored fans. The crew’s hard work didn’t go unnoticed, or uncompensated. Bryan and his upbeat group of friends left the crew a whopping $30,000 tip. BDSY season 4’s charter guests gave some big tips , but Bryan’s group outdid the rest. The $30,000 tip divided amongst nine crew members meant everyone took home $3,333 for a three-day charter. That’s over a thousand dollars per day in pay. And that’s not even including cast member’s Bravo and yachting salary , too. The next biggest tip on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 came from returning Primary Charter Guest Jim Blumenthal ‘s group. They tipped the crew $27,500 or $3055 (€2,700) each.

Without including the final charter, the BDSY season 4 crew made $175,600 in tips from eight charters, already beating the tips totals of any of the previous BDSY seasons. Each crew member made $19,511 in tip money eight charters into the season, with one charter left to go.

Biggest Tips From BDSY Season 3 & Total Tip Money Made

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 Cast Members' Instagram & Twitter Accounts

On Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 , the crew had a great haul of tips from charter guests. The top tip, $23,000, came from Canadian tech entrepreneur and reality TV star Lane Merrifield , fiancée Amanda Bourke and friends. Each crew member on the charter took home $2,555.

Millionaire Primary Charter Guest Lane Merrifield, his fiancé Amanada, and friends from BDSY season 3 (Bravo).

They really enjoyed playing on an obstacle course against the crew and Captain Glenn, Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher , Chief Engineer Colin MacRae, stewardess Ashley Marti and the rest of the original crew each made $16,762 for the charter season out of a total of $160,500 in tip money. The season also had one of the most infamous and disgraceful lowest tips in Below Deck history, left by Erica Rose , her husband Chuck (Charles) , and her mom Cindi. They gave a paltry $6,500 tip to the crew after terrorizing the yachties for three days.

Biggest Tips From BDSY Season 2 & Total Tip Money Made

Co-Primary Charter Guests Nikki and Rusty

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 turned out to be a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gary’s love triangle with Australian Alli Dore and deckhand Sydney Zaruba dominated the drama much of this season of filming. The boatmance resulting in a pregnancy took over headlines after season 2 aired. Deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux impregnated Brazilian beauty Dani Soares while working together. He then refused to step up and be a father to the child. He even refused to take a paternity test or visit Dani and their daughter in Australia.

Due to the shortened season, there weren’t many high tips. Primary Charter Guest and board certified urologic surgeon Frank Martinis and his group ended up tipping the highest, at $23,000 or $2,500 per cast member. Avid sailors and Co-Primary Charter Guests Rusty Niedwick and Nikki Linn, from Newport Beach, California, gave practically the same amount, too, at $22,500. The shortened season resulted in the crew only making $106,450 or $11,830 per person that charter season.

Biggest Tips From BDSY Season 1 & Total Tip Money Made

Co-Primary Charter Guests Alan and Jennifer Ward

Co-Primary Charter Guests Alan and Jennifer Ward (Bravo).

Despite the consensus from Below Deck ‘s subreddit that Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 is one of the worst season’s in the show franchise’s history, the crew hauled in some big tips. The highest tips were lower than any other BDSY season, however the show was filmed in 2019, so, factoring in inflation, the crew did well. They could’ve done better, though, if Chef Adam Glick and Chief Stewardess Jenna MacGillivray kept their PDA outside of working hours.

BDSY season 1 crew members Paget Berry, Ciara Duggan, and Byron Hissey

Retired high-level software engineer at Apple Alan Ward and his wife Jennifer, from New Orleans, Louisiana, and their group celebrated the recent marriage of Italian model Alessia Caprio and Indonesian beach club owner Guy Somers while aboard Parsifal III. The group tied for the most generous tip of $20,000 or $2,222 each. Some of the worst charter guests of season 1, a testosterone-fueled nightmare for the crew (including season 2’s Primary Frank Martinis) wreaked havoc aboard the sailing superyacht. Primary Charter Guest Richie Hosein — a successful entrepreneur from Long Island, New York, with ventures in health care, hospitality, nightlife and music — and his group of frat boys at least compensated the crew well after thoroughly embarrassing themselves. They also tied for highest tip of the season at $20,000. The BDSY season 1 crew ended up making a total of $143,000 and earned over $16,000 per crew member in tip money.

These are the four biggest superyacht trends for 2019

By Annabelle Spranklen

Thinking of buying or chartering a superyacht this year and wondering what to look out for? Leading superyacht broker, Burgess , shares some of this year’s biggest yacht trends.

Fancy dress parties and themed nights

Fancy dress parties and themed nights

Parties aboard some of the swankiest superyachts are renown for being fun, especially when they involve fancy dress. ‘The crew love organizing fancy dress parties and themed nights for guests in tune with the area that they are cruising – this might mean an odyssey evening in Greece, a flamenco show in the Balearics or a spaghetti and mandolin night on the Amalfi coast.’ Remember to bring your dressing-up box.

Fantastic Beach Clubs

Fantastic beach clubs

No, we aren’t talking land beach clubs like Nikki Beach. The best yachts of 2019 have their own beach clubs on-board with a ‘built-in bar, music system, lounge chairs’ as well as ‘direct access to the water’, says Burgess’ Nicci Perides. She adds that, 'the crew are always on standby to serve drinks, hand out towels and help with watersports’. Why not charter... Cloud 9

Water toys galore

What’s a superyacht without its toys? Perides told us that, ‘jetskis, seabobs, waters skis, towable toys and snorkelling gear are almost guaranteed on any 30m+ charter yacht'. Most yacht owners will add to their kit every year with the new innovative toys that come to the marker every season. According to Perides, ‘giant water slides are currently a big favourite'. Why not charter... Titania

Image may contain Human Person Exercise Sport Sports Working Out Fitness and Yoga

State-of-the-art gyms and personal trainers

It’s now pretty much a given that yachts have a dedicated space for working out – whether it's inside or on the sundeck. ‘Treadmills, bikes and dumbbells are the norm, but more and more now have TRX systems and hydraulic rowing machines.’ Perides also notes that, ‘having a personal trainer as part of the crew is not unusual. They can create a dedicated programme for you and do one-on-one sessions at your leisure.’

Healthy eating on-board is also being taken more seriously. 'Michelin-trained chefs are at your service to design fantastic menus, cooking with the freshest, local products where possible’ – this might mean that the chefs head out to the early morning markets for the very best produce. EXCLUSIVE: Below Deck Season 7 yacht and destination revealed

By Katia Damborsky   5 April 2019

YachtCharterFleet can exclusively reveal the new superyacht starring in Season 7 of Below Deck, as well as the destination where the hit Bravo TV series was filmed.

After a successful 6th season cruising around the South Pacific islands of Tahiti , it seems that TV’s favourite yacht crew are heading even further afield for the new series: Below Deck season 7 is being filmed in Thailand .

Filming began in the first week of February in Phuket, with the home port identified as Ao Po Grand Marina. This is the second time in the show’s history that Below Deck has been filmed outside of the Caribbean .

Which yacht was used for Below Deck Season 7?

Below Deck Season 7 was filmed on board motor yacht VALOR. While the destination is entirely new, the charter yacht starring in the show is a returning favourite, after playing host to Captain Lee and the crew during seasons 4 and 5.

Captain Lee Rosbach from Below Deck on board motor yacht VALOR

The VALOR is actually an alias, and YachtCharterFleet has previously rounded up all of the real names of the Below Deck superyachts, as well as the cost to rent them . The real name of VALOR is superyacht BG , and she measures 47m, or 154ft.

BG was built in 1990 by Feadship, arguably the world’s most esteemed shipbuilder, and benefits from contemporary and inviting living areas, alongside a host of stand-out features. These include a crow’s nest, water slide and expansive upper deck sunbathing area, all of which are sure to feature on season seven of the Bravo reality TV show.

How much does it cost to rent the Valor?

In summer, the weekly cost to charter VALOR, or BG, is from $157,500 per week plus expenses. In the winter, she costs from $168,000 per week, and she usually charters around Caribbean hotpots such as the Virgin Islands .

Aerial shot of Below Deck yacht VALOR underway

The Below Deck franchise is certainly spreading its wings, with a new series focusing on sailing yachts announced last month. YachtCharterFleet was happy to identify the sailing yacht starring in ‘Below Deck Sailing Vessel’ as ‘Parsifal III’ in an earlier article.

YachtCharterFleet was happy to identify the sailing yacht starring in ‘Below Deck Sailing Vessel’ as ‘Parsifal III’ in an earlier article.

Many of the season 6 six crew will be returning for the brand new season, which is set to premiere later this year. As ever, Kate Chastain will be heading up the interior crew, with Captain Lee Rosbach at the helm alongside Ashton Pienaar as deckhand.

It has been suggested that chef Adrian Martin and steward Josiah Carter will also be making a return to the show for their second season. However, at present, it is not known whether the rest of the crew will be joining them in Thailand .

The cruising grounds of South East Asia have long been one of the most desirable charter destinations for those looking to get off the beaten track and explore the resplendent beauty of this region. The world’s finest coral reefs can be found here, along with secluded bays, sandy beaches and sights on shore such as rice paddies and elephant sanctuaries.

Chartering around Tahiti, Below Deck captured the attention of 3.2 million viewers around the globe and reported the highest-rated season in franchise history. It is possible that future seasons of Below Deck will also take place in far-flung destinations, in the hopes of boosting the popularity of private yacht charters in these locations.

Where was Below Deck season 7 filmed?

Below Deck season 7 was filmed around Thailand, in the Andaman sea and Phang Nga Bay.  With so many islands in this region, there are plenty of destinations on the itinerary for season 7.  Filming took place over six weeks in all of the following destinations:

Ao Po Grand Marina, Phuket

Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket

The home port for the show is Phuket's Ao Po Grand Marina, an uber-modern yacht harbour with direct access to the most beautiful charter spots in Thailand. It is in close proximity to a number of bars and restaurants, which will provide the perfect setting for partying after a busy charter. Along these docks, the crew will catch their first glimpse of their charter guests arriving.

Koh Poda island /Ko Po Da Nok

Aerial image of Koh Poda islands in Phuket, Thailand

A Thai paradise, this pair of islands are encircled by long swathes of soft white sand and lapped by crystal-clear waters. Peppering the surrounding ocean, unusual rock formations are responsible for Koh Poda Nok’s ‘chicken island’ nickname. A secret beach on Ko Poda will make the most idyllic backdrop for a beach picnic, while Tup Island sits between the two land masses and offers up waist-deep waters which are primed for charter guests looking to swim and snorkel.

Phi Phi Islands

Boat on the water in the Phi Phi islands

With its buzzing energy, friendly locals, authentic eateries, the Phi Phi islands are one of the most iconic charter destinations in Thailand. Their bays, bordered by large rocks swathed in green, provide a sheltered spot for kayaking and canoeing- or a beach picnic, as Kate Chastain recently posted a picture believed to be snapped on one of Phi Phi’s blissful beaches.

Koh Rang Yai Island

People on white sand beach along the Phi Phi islands

This pint-sized island is set just adrift from mainland Phuket, and has a laid-back energy that draws in visitors from around the globe. While the western side is more overrun, the eastern portion of this island is devoid of tourists, and offers up a haven of barefoot calm and serenity. Charter guests will be able to peruse coconut groves or visit the local pearl shop, and take home a milky white, organically-harvested souvenir from one of the island’s pearl farms.

Bay in Thailand, with white sand and bright turquoise sea

Perfectly unspoilt, Ko Yao Yai looks lifted from the scene of a glossy postcard. Palm trees sway gently in the wind, and long icing-sugar sand beaches promise an escape from the world. Thriving metropolises of coral gardens line the seabed, interspersed with world-famous dive sites such the King Cruiser wreck and Anemone Reef, as well as the pinnacle of Shark Point marine sanctuary.

Laem Krating

This stretch of coast is perfect for dropping anchor and enjoying watersports, while soaking up the beauty of this dramatic, rocky outpost on the southern tip of Phuket. Charter guests can relax on the deck, or take one of BG’s selection of toys out for a spin.

When Below Deck season seven hits our screens, it is likely that an increased influx of yachts available for luxury yacht charters will head to South East Asia. If you would like to discover more, please get in touch with your preferred yacht charter broker .

Below Deck: Kate Chastain explains yacht tipping

Kate breaks down the yachting tips process.

Last week on Below Deck, Captain Lee Rosbach let the crew know that frat boy Michael and his group left a horrible tip of only $15,000. In one of the first episodes, the charter guests left a $20,000 tip, which the captain deemed a good tip.

The difference between the two tips has caused several social media users to wonder how the yachting tipping process works. Chief stew, Kate Chastain recently chatted with Entertainment Tonight and answered part of the question.

“On a yacht of that size, a good tip would be $5,000 a person, for seven days of work. Five grand a crew member, usually. Our charters are a little bit shorter, just so we can make the show, but everything else is exactly the same. So, it’s prorated. We usually get around $2,500, $2,000. Anything less than $1,000 would be depressing, which sounds crazy, doesn’t it?” Kate expressed.

Below Deck charters generally run two days, sometimes three days, to ensure the Bravo production schedule can be met. Kate did reveal the shorter charter means more work for the crew because they are jamming in the same amount of fun for the guests but in less time. There is very little downtime for the crew during the charter.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Below Deck (@belowdeckbravo)

Kate did not mention exactly how the tip is divided up. On the show, there is always a meeting with Captain Lee letting everyone know the total tip, as well as the per person tip. The meeting leaves viewers under the impression that each crew member receives the same amount.

There is one big difference in the yachting tip process verses the Below Deck tip process. On the show, the primary guest gives Captain Lee an envelope full of cash. Kate explained, on other charters, that most of the time the primary will wire the tip after the trip is over. The reason for this is that most of the fancy guests don’t carry around the amount of cash needed to tip properly.

Kate Chastain clued viewers in to what is considered a good yachting tip. What did you think of her explanation?

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

Below Deck’s Salary Breakdown Revealed! Plus Kate Chastain Shares How Much the Crew Actually Gets Tipped

Below Deck's Kate Chastain Reveals How Much the Crew Actually Gets Tipped

A new report is giving a breakdown of  Below Deck salaries as the show star Kate Chastain is also dishing on the tipping process and how much a yacht crew actually makes during a typical charter season on the show.

While it may look somewhat glamorous on TV, working in yachting is a lot of hard work — but it does come with some perks. And according to Chief Stewardess Kate, the tips the crew receives after a charter is probably the most rewarding of them all.

“On a yacht of that size, [a good tip] would be $5,000 a person, for seven days of work,” the Bravo star revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight . “Five grand a crew member, usually. Our charters are a little bit shorter, just so we can make the show, [but] everything else is exactly the same. So, it’s prorated. We usually get around $2,500, $2,000. Anything less than $1,000 would be depressing, which sounds crazy, doesn’t it?”

While a typical charter on the show lasts between two to three days, Kate insists that the crew is cramming in five days worth of work to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“We’re working not just eight-hour shifts, it’s like, we’re working pretty much around the clock,” the chief stew explained. “All the days start to blur together. And during the tip meeting, Captain Lee [Rosbach] , will say what we got and I’m always like, ‘Is that good? I don’t know anymore… $3,000, are we happy with this?'”

According to Kate, it can cost up to $150,000 a week to take over yachts like the ones that are portrayed on the show, which are typically in the 150-foot range. But on top of tips, the crew also receives a handsome salary based on what they do on deck.

According to the report, a chief stew like Kate can expect anywhere from $62,000 to $75,000 per charter season on the kinds of yachts fans see on Below Deck . Next comes second and third stews, who can earn up to $50,000 a season.

A yacht chef can expect to pocket anywhere between $70,000 and $95,00 per season while a captain can earn a whopping $120,000 or more. Lastly, a bosun on a yacht can expect to get $50,000 after a charter season while deckhands are looking at a sum of $40,000 to $52,000.

As more and more shipyards have boasted full order books in recent years and one-off custom designs are on the rise, in 2019 we can expect to see a slew of unique luxury yachts with never before seen features and innovative technology that pushes the boundaries of engineering.  Eighteen superyachts, in particular, have gained attention, either for being the largest, fastest or even the first in a new line of models from their shipyards created to meet contemporary lifestyles. See what changes 2019 will bring to the luxury yachting industry the world over.

18 SUPERYACHTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO:

107m megayacht fb275 – benetti.

As part of Benetti ‘s ‘gigayacht season’ which will see the launch of three luxury yachts from the shipyard over 100m/328ft, HULL FB275 is one of the most eagerly anticipated vessels for the start of 2019. The naval architecture, exterior styling and interior decor have all been produced by the in-house teams to stunning coordinated effect, resulting in a modern masterpiece that emphasises interior space using minimalism and a range of natural materials, patterns and textures.

Circular rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows are a prominent design feature, as is the connection to water with a pool and beach club with side terraces incorporated into the design.

95m FIJI – Lurssen

Sold at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in 2015, 95m/311ft superyacht PROJECT FIJI (a.k.a.MAUI) from Lurssen received a technical launch in late 2017 and little has been heard from her since. What is known is that the 14m/46ft beam will create plenty of interior volume for designer Laura Sessa to work with, in a style described as ‘contemporary modern’.

A lucky 20 guests will be accommodated over 10 en-suite staterooms and have an abundance of entertainment options while cruising, including a 12m/39ft pool, a lavish spa, a dive centre and a beach club. The helipad on the bow will ensure effortless commutes for guests joining or leaving during a cruise, and the upper deck features a ‘walkable skylight’ in addition to an integrated fireplace for enjoying the outdoor ambience even on chill nights.

85m Silver Loft – Silver Yachts

85m/279ft expedition yacht SILVER LOFT was originally announced in 2015 as a new generation of fast explorer yachts and the fifth hull to be built by the shipyard that works witha critically acclaimed naval architect and exterior designer Espen Oeino. The name SILVER LOFT comes from her loft-style space on the upper deck with wrap-around full-height windows that houses the guest staterooms.

The accommodation sleeps up to 16 guests across eight staterooms, with nine crew cabins and four staff cabins to sleep up to 21 personnel. There are up to three heli-decks available and extensive storage for water toys inside and out. She has a range of 5,000 nautical miles using twin MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines that allow her to reach a top speed of 24 knots and the cruising speed of 18 knots.

Another exceptional luxury yacht from Espen Oeino is 90m/295ft PROJECT YASMIN from Oceanco , which has interiors from British designer Terence Disdale. The accommodation is believed to sleep up to 12 guests with a crew of 27 to provide impeccable service throughout special events.

Among her features is a massive forward spa pool with sun pads to either side that join seamlessly to K-shaped sofas that each have a corner drinks table. Once completed, she is expected to reach a top speed of 18.5 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots for an excellent balance between speed and comfort while cruising.

104.8m Benetti FB272 – Benetti

The final giga yacht to be launched by Benetti, FB272 measures almost 105m/344ft and comes with an interior from Zaniz Jakubowski. She will have a steel hull and aluminium superstructure with an abundance of room on board for luxury amenities such as a beach club. More details on this highly anticipated luxury yacht are expected to be released at launch.

93m Project 814 – Feadship

Stylish Feadship superyacht PROJECT 814 was launched in October 2018 with a delivery expected around Spring 2019. Michael Leach Design worked in collaboration with the Owners to produce her exterior styling and Reymond Langton Design formed her magnificent interiors, which have been described by the shipyard as ‘a beautiful contemporary jewellery box’ with some of the world’s rarest and most exceptional materials decorating both shared and private guest spaces. Her beam of 14m/49.5ft certainly leaves plenty of room for luxury facilities, including a fully certified helipad with Jet A fuel, facilities for football, golf, basketball, and volleyball, and a two-floor IMAX cinema. If guests want to spend some time in quiet relaxation instead, the four VIP staterooms each have an 8k TV.

95m Project GY91 – Golden Yachts

At 95m/312ft, superyacht PROJECT GY91 shies just short of the ‘mega yacht’ mark, however, she remains an impressive achievement as the Greek shipyard’s largest vessel to date. More details on her specifications, layout and amenities are expected to be released following her launch later this year.

44m Project Virtus – Menti Yay

Luxury yacht PROJECT VIRTUS is designed for making the most of life outdoors thanks to a spacious beach club, broad aft decks and a generous foredeck, in addition to side balconies off the formal dining area. After a long day, 10 guests will find comfortable modern cabins with en-suite facilities and a crew of eight to cater to provide a sumptuous breakfast the following morning. Ginton Naval Architects worked with Mengi Yay on her naval architecture and VYD Studio will be responsible for her exterior as well as interior styling, the latter done in collaboration with BTA Design. M/Y PROJECT VIRTUS is expected for delivery mid-2019.

49.8m Project Boreas – Heesen yachts

Superyacht PROJECT BOREAS was the fifth hull signed in 2017 in a successful year for Heesen – a company looking to expand its facilities in 2019. The shipyard has been known mainly for producing 80m+/262ft+ vessels in recent years and this custom all-aluminium superyacht with naval architecture by Van Oossanen is a reminder of the shipyard’s capacity for producing stunning family-sized yachts.

88.5m OLIVIA O – Ulstein Verft shipyard

Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft has almost 100 years of expertise in building commercial craft and support vessels, and M/Y OLIVIA O is the company’s first foray into building a luxury expedition yacht. At 88.5m/290ft she will become one of the world’s largest explorer yachts and will be instantly recognisable with the shipyard’s patented X-bow design.

Espen Oeino produced her sweeping exterior styling and the beam of 16.3m/53.4ft creates ample space for a helipad and a swimming pool. From sea trials in August 2018, she known to have a cruising speed of 14 knots and a top speed of 16.5 knots.

63.7m Sanlorenzo 64 Steel – Sanlorenzo

Following her launch in 2019, the SANLORENZO 64 STEEL will become the flagship vessel for Italian shipyard San Lorenzo. Interior concept images show an elegant contemporary dining room at the top of a flight of stairs, with an extensive wet bar for social occasions as well as after-dinner drinks with family and friends. One of the spacious aft decks hosts a plunge pool with an infinity waterfall, surrounded on either side by sun loungers where the group can unwind in ambient surroundings.

The accommodation will provide for up to 12 guests and a crew of 18, and a pair of CAT 3516 C engines will provide a top speed of 17 knots.

65m SeaXplorer 65 – Damen

Originally unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2015, the Damen SEAXPLORER 65 found a buyer within a year and the first hull is due for delivery in 2019. Featuring the naval architecture of Azure Naval Architects, she is built with an ice-breaking bow and offers up to 40 days of autonomous cruising. One of the popular features of the SEAXPLORER range is the zero-discharge mode, allowing the vessel to enter environmentally sensitive regions without impacting local flora and fauna. The SEAXPLORER 65 sleeps up to 12 guests with a crew of 20 for safe and efficient operations in some of the world’s most remote regions.

68.2m Project Ragnar – Icon Yachts

This conversion from Icon Yachts began as an ice-breaking supply vessel in 2012 known as SANABORG, and while the shipyard has handled conversions before, it’s the unique amenities and interiors that have everyone with baited breath: RWD will use the theme of medieval war to design the rooms, and with the removal of several tanks from the original design, explorer yacht PROJECT RAGNAR will have on board a sizeable area dedicated to luxury amenities, including a snow room, cold plunge pool, massage room, sauna and gym.

There is storage for an extensive range of water toys, snowmobiles and larger vehicles including a personal submarine, all to be enjoyed by 16 guests, with six staterooms to sleep 12 guests and two Owner’s suites for another four guests.

79m Project 135 – CRN

Luxury yacht PROJECT 135 from CRN (part of Ferretti Group) will be the second biggest superyacht the shipyard has ever built, falling short of M/Y CHOPI CHOPI by a single metre. The exterior styling comes from Zuccon International Project and Laura Sessa Design created the interiors, where up to 12 guests are accommodated over six en-suite staterooms.

Ferretti Group has described her as one of the most important launches for CRN, redefining Italian style through innovative design features, optimised interior volumes and attention to features such as the lighting to an incredible onboard ambience that emphasises the connection to the sea.

Her Caterpillar diesel engines will create a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots and her large crew of 39 will ensure that any high profile events on board are run effortlessly.

94m Project 817 – Feadship

Few details are known about PROJECT 817 as Feadship keeps projects secret until launch, however, three cutaway sides in the hull suggest fold-down balconies for a Master suite, VIP stateroom or amenities such as a beach club or spa.

80m Project 6505 – Abeking & Rasmussen

Another secretive build, concept images show floor-to-ceiling glass covering two decks possibly as part of an atrium. A spa pool or swimming pool appears to be a likely addition to the foredeck, which will also be certified as a helipad. The futuristic design is further enhanced by the pristine white hull and superstructure with sweeping lines flowing from bow to stern. A cut-out section on the lower aft deck suggests a side-loading tender garage or fold-down terrace off a beach club. Standing out from the crowd, she is also expected to have top of the line entertainment systems installed on board, as well as a great selection of amenities to keep guests occupied during journeys.

80m Artefact – Nobiskrug

The geometric shapes that form the windows along the hull of 80m/262ft superyacht ARTEFACT evoke the 80s, and the playful styling from Gregory C Marshall continues in the wings along each deck. 750m²/8072ft² of glass surrounds the interiors from Reymond Langton Design, and the innovative on board systems include a Dynamic Positioning System to remain at the same coordinates without dropping anchor, solar panels and a diesel-electric propulsion system to meet IMO Tier III emissions regulations.

82.5m Grand Seraglio – Edgar Yachting

The traditionally styled superyacht GRAND SERAGLIO from Edgar Yachting is a sizeable vessel at 82.5m/271ft that provides an abundance of space for alfresco parties, with a swimming pool on the main deck aft and a forward Jacuzzi on the sundeck for relaxation at any time of the day or night.

Marco Yachts produced her naval architecture and exterior styling comes from Michael Leach. The interiors are as yet unknown, however, the accommodation sleeps up to 20 guests over 10 spacious staterooms and a crew of 22 will provide impeccable service. With a cruising range of 8,000 nautical miles, superyacht GRAND SERAGLIO will surely be crossing the world’s oceans and exploring remote islands.

Comedian Shane Gillis Addresses ‘Saturday Night Live’ Firing in Monologue: ‘I Shouldn’t Be Up Here’

Comedian Shane Gillis returned to Saturday Night Live on Saturday, February 24, for the first time in nearly five years.

“Thank you very much. Yeah, I’m here,” Gillis, 36, began his SNL monologue. “Most of you probably have no idea who I am. I was fired from this show a while ago. Don’t look that up, please. Please don’t Google that. It’s fine. Don’t even worry about it.”

He continued, “I probably shouldn’t be up here honestly. I should be at home. I should be a high school football coach.”

Gillis was hired as a featured player on SNL in 2019 but was fired four days later after racist and homophobic comments from his podcast resurfaced online. SNL noted at the time that they were unaware of his “offensive” remarks. Gillis also released a statement but did not apologize for his comments.

“I was always a Mad TV guy anyway,” Gillis quipped in his 2019 statement, referring to the competing sketch comedy program.

On Saturday, Gillis brought his trademark sense of humor to the Studio 8H stage even if it wasn’t camera-ready.

Shane Gillis Addresses ‘Saturday Night Live’ Firing in Debut Monologue: ‘I Shouldn’t Be Up Here’

“Look, I don’t have any material that can be on TV, alright?” he added in his monologue. “I’m trying my best. Also, this place is extremely well-lit. I can see everyone not enjoying it. This is the most nervous I’ve ever been.”

Gillis’ monologue featured jokes about “being gay,” his niece with Down syndrome — leading him to use the R-word — and more.

“I don’t know if you could tell this about me, but I do have family members with Down syndrome,” he said on Saturday. “It almost got me. I dodged it, but it nicked me.”

Gillis then interrupted his own monologue when it became clear that his jokes weren’t landing as intended, but he didn’t want applause out of pity. (Gillis thought his joke about how individuals who have Down syndrome “aren’t worried” about the 2024 presidential election would “get a bigger laugh” than it did.)

“Don’t clap now, shut up,” he told audience members. “No, I brought up Down syndrome and you always tell who’s never been around Down syndrome when you bring it up. … People who have never been around it are like, ‘Oh,’ like, it’s the end of the world. ‘Are they doing OK?’ Like, they’re doing better than everybody I know.”

31,000 Ukrainian troops killed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Zelenskyy says

KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action in the two years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion .

Zelenskyy said that the number was far lower than estimates given by Russian President Vladimir Putin's government.

Recommended Videos

“31,000 Ukrainian military personnel have been killed in this war. Not 300,000, not 150,000, not whatever Putin and his deceitful circle have been lying about. But nevertheless, each of these losses is a great sacrifice for us”, Zelenskyy said at the “Ukraine. Year 2024” forum in Kyiv .

The Ukrainian leader said that he wouldn't disclose the number of troops that were wounded or missing. He also said that “tens of thousands of civilians” had been killed in occupied areas of Ukraine, but said that no exact figures would be available until the war was over.

“We don’t know how many of our civilians they killed. We don’t,” he said.

It's the first time that Kyiv has confirmed the number of its losses since the start of Russia’s full-scale war on Feb. 24, 2022.

Russia has provided few official casualty figures. The most recent data from the Defense Ministry, published in January 2023, pointed to just over 6,000 deaths, although reports from U.S. and U.K. officials put that number significantly higher.

A U.S. intelligence report declassified in mid-December 2023 estimated that 315,000 Russian troops had been killed or wounded in Ukraine. If accurate, the figure would represent 87% of the roughly 360,000 troops Russia had before the war, according to the report.

Independent Russian news outlet Mediazona said Saturday that about 75,000 Russian men died in 2022 and 2023 fighting in the war.

A joint investigation published by Mediazona and Meduza, another independent Russian news site, indicates that the rate of Russia’s losses in Ukraine is not slowing and that Moscow is losing about 120 men a day.

“We’re freezing!” Utility accidents from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. Why are thousands of Russians left without heat and light in winter?

January 12, 2024 – Translated from russian via Google and OFP

2019 superyacht tipped

Hundreds of houses in Novosibirsk were left without heat and light. In the third largest city in Russia, a utility accident occurred – a pipe burst. Traffic is paralyzed. The consequences were eliminated by more than 160 teams of utility workers. The cause of the problems is a pipe manufactured in 1974. It was replaced, but partially, only 8.5 meters.

Winter in Russia turned out to be cold. There are so many utility accidents that they even appear on federal channels. It is necessary to intervene in the situation even at the presidential level. Moscow region Elektrostal, Selyatino, Voskresensk, Tver region. The list can go on for a long time. People from Kaliningrad to the Far East are complaining about the lack of heating.

The Kremlin indicated that they see the problem and solve it, but they won’t be able to help everyone quickly. “Despite the efforts to update housing and communal services systems, it is already clear that now it is realistic to carry out only emergency repairs. Many networks will remain in a rather dilapidated state,” said Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov. This week, weather forecasters promise abnormal cold in Russia – up to -23 degrees. Present Time spoke with anti-corruption lawyer Grigory Mashanov about the problems of the Russian housing and communal services system.

– Wear and tear in Russia is very high. In different regions, if we are talking about main pipes, they can be worn out by 60-70%. And I honestly don’t understand why. The modern housing and communal services market in Russia has existed for almost 20 years: in 2005, a new Housing Code was adopted, and privatization of this area began. It was possible to update the infrastructure quite a lot in 20 years, and somewhere they invested. In Moscow, for example, there are generally few accidents, but in some regions, for example in the Moscow region, everything is really bad there. Although this, of course, is a question, because in the Leningrad region, where the population is largely comparable, this did not happen. I would not say that the Leningrad region is less corrupt in terms of housing and communal services.

What I’m getting at is that, since this is an opaque area, or rather, there is actually a lot of data, there is a so-called GIS “Housing and Communal Services”, “Government Services-House”, but it’s all so complicated, it’s written in such clerical language, and it can be very difficult for lawyers understand what they wanted to say with this or that document.

The Accounts Chamber and investigative bodies should control it, but when such disasters occur, they immediately begin to investigate. But overall the market is very dirty. There was a story, for example, with a rather progressive management company in Yekaterinburg. Because their houses were taken over, their office was simply set on fire, their cars were burned, their equipment was burned. And this happened in 2017, 2018, 2019. And this is a gangster market in many ways. It’s kind of 1990s in terms of practices. The housing and communal services market is very profitable, the management culture is rather low, so this is a rather corrupt story. – Russian opposition politician Mikhail Khodorkovsky believes that Vladimir Putin and no one else is primarily responsible for the pipes in Russia. How do you think?

– First of all, housing and communal services are the responsibility of the citizens themselves. They choose management companies themselves. Management companies are those who order services. And in a good way they should demand. But, of course, this is a question of the system, the management system, the system of state capitalism that exists in Russia, which does not allow open, fair competition in the housing and communal services market. This is always connected with government agencies; in some places the state quite officially controls the market, as in Moscow. Therefore, of course, government policy matters in the sense that people also believe that nothing in housing and communal services depends on them, that we only take care of our apartment, that everything that happens outside the apartment is none of their business. That is, people do not understand what a homeowners’ association is. HOAs are a tiny fraction of the total number of homes. That is, people do not take responsibility for their housing.

Therefore, I probably wouldn’t say that Putin is 100% to blame. But, of course, we cannot say that people are entirely to blame or municipalities are entirely to blame. Of course, this is primarily government policy in the housing and communal services sector.

I want to give a slightly foreign example. For example, there are Georgia and Armenia. In Georgia, the state of houses is terrible, the state of communal infrastructure is terrible, in Armenia it is much better. Just different government policies. In Armenia, the state actively intervenes in housing and communal services; in Georgia, this is a libertarian approach: people should figure it out themselves, but people don’t figure it out. Russia has such a mixed history, coupled with corruption.

– Let’s take colder countries, for example, the Baltics. It is clear that they are in the European Union, but nevertheless they inherited the post-Soviet legacy. It is clear that the scale of the country is different, but it is as cold there as in Russia, maybe not as cold as in Siberia, but, in any case, it is still colder than in Georgia and Armenia. Is there no corruption there?

– There is much less corruption there, especially if we take Estonia and Lithuania. In Latvia the situation is more complicated. To be honest, I don’t know what the history of utility accidents is. But the state of housing and communal services there is better, partly because there is less corruption there. The European Union has invested a lot in these countries, modernized the infrastructure, carried out work to increase thermal efficiency so that houses lose less heat. In general, the quality of government in these countries is simply much higher, because in terms of institutions they are much more developed than Russia, especially, I repeat, Estonia and Lithuania.

To me, mafia land’s failed power/heating system is very good news. This sheds lots of light on a country beset with huge problems. It inherited a Soviet-era infrastructure but instead of rebuilding the already dilapidated system with the huge sums that mafia land had earned over the past three decades, its horde of parasites with the help of utter corruption stole unimaginable sums from the country’s coffers. Another aspect is that the crap hole spent whatever it could on its military. Putler’s regime has made the same mistakes that were the cause of the Soviet Union’s downfall. This was bound to happen sooner or later. Of course, that it happens in the dead of winter makes it all the more wonderful.

You are right. We often forget this aspect of infrastructure in Orcland. The lack of investment in this sector due to endemic corruption correlated with the challenges of thawing permafrost portends total disaster. As a reminder, 70% of roads, railway line, gas pipelines, oil pipelines, TOWNS and factories built on permafrost are threatened by soil destabilization. Added to this is a great risk of fire, which could increase by 130% to 350% in these areas, and a threat of mud flooding in summer (e.g. Yakutia). The work is titanic! If the economic sanctions do not quite live up to expectations, they slow down military production, but above all erode the Orc economy which has channeled all resources towards defense.

What gets me is that mafia land suffers from climate change too, in particular with the fires you’ve mentioned and the permafrost that’s thawing out. Mafia land is truly a ticking time bomb, ecologically, economically, and politically.
