Captain Sandy Yawn
As per E! News and Bravo , Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 features a cast of ten crew members, one being Captain Sandy. The 56-year-old woman came from Fort Lauderdale and made a big name for herself on TV and in the yachting world. She debuted on the show in 2017 and has since been a regular on the spin-off. Over the years, Captain Sandy has seen it all and led her team to various successful charters. She’s all too familiar with the romances, the parties, and the drama. Therefore, she’s fully equipped to take on the challenges in season 8. Captain Sandy recently celebrated 34 years of being sober.
Chef Jack Luby
Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 features a new chef, Jack Luby. For many reasons, the self-proclaimed “kitchen wizard” from Bali seems to be the perfect choice for the show. Jack has a lengthy experience creating exotic tropical dishes and a passion for living by the seaside. His Instagram page shows that he can cook all kinds of food items and would be able to fulfill any request from charter guests. Jack also seems to have a passion for staying in shape. In February 2023, the chef posted a photo of himself with the caption, “quit my job , moved to Bali #freedom.”
Chief Stew Tumi Mhlongo
Below Deck Med season 8 also features many returning stars. One such name is Chief Stew Tumi Mhlongo , who previously appeared on Below Deck Down Under season 1. The New York resident was the second stewardess on Captain Jason Chambers' yacht. She fulfilled her duties perfectly, which could be why she’s now the Chief Stew of Captain Sandy’s team. The South African native made many great friendships on the show, and she’s the perfect woman to lead the stews on Mustique. Tumi recently announced her debut on the spin-off show and wrote, “whose ready for the wildest charter season EVER with the craziest crew.”
Second Stew Kyle Viljoen
Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 features a few cast members continuing their journeys on the show. The second stew from season 7, Kyle Viljoen, returns to reprise his role. He was an excellent crew member last time and will look to continue his streak. Kyle is a 31-year-old New York resident. He's experienced and has good looks, making him a perfect addition to the crew. Kyle announced his return on September 1. He posted a photo of himself in uniform and shared that the latest season was “the most intense charter season” for his yachting career.
Second Stew Natalya "Nat" Scudder
Like Kyle, Natalya "Nat" Scudder also returns to reprise her role as the second stewardess. The Australian native began working in the yachting industry when she was barely eighteen. She has great experience and understands the business well. The young woman has previously worked in similar roles and handled high-profile clients like royal families. She’s a great fit for the show despite her dramatic nature. Recently, Natalya posted a photo of herself from her hotel room and wrote, “cheers to not being involved in any drama this season.”
Bosun Ruan Irving
Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 features a new Bosun, Ruan Irving. The South African man has over a decade of experience in the yachting industry. Therefore, he's a great fit for the job. Ruan is passionate about traveling and sports. He loves boxing and has posted a lot of content showing his moves. Ruan also seems to be in a relationship, according to his Instagram. He recently announced his debut on the popular reality TV show and congratulated his mother. Ruan wrote, “mama we made it haha! ya boy be on below deck Mediterranean season 8.”
Deckhand Luka Brunton
Luka Brunton is another returning name on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8. The New Zealand native debuted on Below Deck Down Under season 2 as the Lead Deckhand. He has seven years of experience and enjoys watching The Real Housewives . Luca recently appeared as part of Captain Jason’s crew. Therefore, his arrival on Below Deck Mediterranean is a bit surprising. He recently broke the fourth wall and opened up about his confusing appearances on two Below Deck spin-offs. Luka wrote, “I’m just as confused as you right now, but here we go. Doubling the fun as I dive into both Below Deck Med Season 8 and Below Deck Down Under Season 2.”
Deckhand Lara Du Preez
Lara Du Preez is the new female deckhand on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8. The South African woman comes from Hermanus with only four years of experience in the yachting industry. Despite that, she seems ready to take on the big task and do whatever it takes. Lara is young and doesn’t seem to be in a relationship. Therefore, seeing her dynamic with other crew members will be interesting. Lara recently announced her arrival on the Below Deck spin-off, revealing that things will get rough on the show.
Stew Jessika Asai
Jessika Asai is the new stew on Below Deck Mediterranean . The Hawaiian woman seems to be the main cast member of season 8, as she has a fun personality. She has four years of experience and has worked on various charters. At one point, a famous rapper came to celebrate his birthday, which became her life's wildest charter experience. Jessika has revealed many surprising things about herself on her Bravo profile. While talking about her special skills, she said, “I’m very flexible. I can do front and back flips.”
Deckhand Haleigh Gorman
Like Jessika and Lara, Haleigh Gorman is also new to the spin-off. She’s from Langhorne Township in Pennsylvania and has ten years of experience on small ships. Haleigh’s profile shows she’s a Leo and loves activities like hiking, fishing, and scuba diving. The deckhand is also into yoga and loves her pet dogs. According to her Bravo bio, she said her schedule was “super, crazy, hectic,” but also shared that her first big yacht experience on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 was very clean compared to her past jobs.

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 in Italy onboard motor yacht MUSTIQUE

By Paloma Shemirani 10 October 2023
Premiered on 25 September, Bravo’s hit series delivers yet another season of drama and even some chaotic franchise firsts onboard the 180-feet motor yacht MUSTIQUE by Trinity Yachts. With Captain Sandy and her crew, she cruises the Italian Riviera amidst the meltdowns, hookups, and partying.
This season is based out of Genoa where MUSTIQUE sailed back in mid-August until mid-September of last year. Anchoring in Santa Margherita, Sestri Levante, and La Spezia near Portofino , charter guests enjoyed the stunning views of the Ligurian province’s colorful fishing towns and cliffsides.
Equally beautiful were the facilities aboard this season’s luxury charter yacht , which was designed by Dee Robinson. While it was refitted in 2018, MUSTIQUE still retains much of her elegant interiors from the original construction in 2005. Viewers of Below Deck Mediterranean will be able to admire the yacht’s classical mahogany paneling set against cream carpets and upholstery, as well as the bathrooms’ marbled surfaces.
Finely balancing the classic with the contemporary, MUSTIQUE is a luxury yacht capable of delivering the best of everything.
The megayacht has 6 cabins that can hold 12 guests in 9 beds with a crew of 12. Its special features include a baby grand piano and a deck jacuzzi, which guarantees to keep charter guests as entertained as those who Captain Sandy and her crew served. With its full-displacement steel hull, MUSTIQUE offers guests a much more stable onboard experience at anchor. It also has an advanced stabilization system which reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht, promising guests comfort even while cruising at a speed of 12 knots.
When Below Deck’s featured guests weren’t cruising, they could enjoy the truly extensive selection of water toys onboard MUSTIQUE: after soaking up the sun on her chic sundeck, the luxury yacht invites guests to soar over the water on Zapata Flyboards or Yamaha FX WaveRunner; MUSTIQUE also has waterskis, a seabob, paddleboards, and much more.
This year's season of Below Deck Mediterranean was based out of Genoa , an historical maritime city which is a popular stop-off on Mediterranean charters owing to its ornate palazzos and stunning medieval buildings. Charter guests were then taken down along the coast to small seaside towns like Sestri Levante and Santa Margherita , which is home to a pretty palm-laden promenade that visitors can stroll along with an Italian coffee in hand from one of the local cafes. While this year's guests did not visit Portofino, this is the most popular destination in the Ligurian Province and a must-see for Italian charters. For more ideas on where to visit while chartering in the Mediterranean , take a look at our sample Italian itineraries.
Sample itineraries for your next Italy yacht charter
If you are interested in recreating the Below Deck experience, then charters for the superyacht MUSTIQUE start at approximately $244 000 per week plus expenses. Be sure to speak with your preferred charter broker to book this vessel to see the Italian Riviera yourself as part of your Italian yacht charter .
Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 is available to stream on Hayu and Amazon Prime Video.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 plot
Here's what you need to know about Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 with the official synopsis from Bravo:
"Set amidst the mesmerizing Italian Riviera and the historic façade of Genoa, Italy, it's all hands on deck this season for Capt. Sandy and her team. From outrageous guests to after-hours antics, the boat gets rocked throughout each charter as the crew navigates complicated dynamics and unexpected rifts. In a franchise first, unprecedented staffing changes dominate the season, which tests each department as they struggle to find their sea legs through unforeseen turnover.
"Sandy levels up this season with the 180-foot M/Y Mustique, which challenges her deck crew as they attempt to navigate the busy industrial port with utmost precision. Before they even leave the dock, visa issues tie up two crew members while a department head mismanages important paperwork. Sandy leans on temporary help for the first charter and an unexpected shake-up results in a change of hierarchy. On deck, the crew is overwhelmed by their workload on the oversized vessel as the interior deals with a clash of personalities. Chef Jack wows the guests with his impressive take on local Italian fare, but things start to sour when communication goes south.
"Between 'friends with benefits' and open relationships, there’s no shortage of boat-mances and boat break-ups. When disagreements impact productivity and former friendships start to implode, Sandy is faced with a wave of difficult decisions."

Find out what cast members Captain Sandy Yawn , Tumi Mhlongo , Jack Luby , Luka Brunton , Kyle Viljoen , Lara Du Preez , Jessika Asai , Max Salvador , Haleigh Gorman , and Lily Davison revealed by scrolling below. Plus, learn which familiar face returned for the final crew night out.
Where the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 Yachties Stand After the Finale
Captain sandy yawn.
When she attended the final crew dinner of the season, Sandy shared that she was looking forward to seeing her "love," Leah Shafer .
She also spoke about her love for her job.
"I love being a captain. It's something I live for, it's in my blood," she said in an interview on the finale. "I will be a captain until the day they put me in the ground or set me on fire."

Tumi Mhlongo
During the final tip meeting, Captain Sandy applauded "rock star" Tumi for having such a strong work ethic, for "maintaining [her] composure," and for bringing the smiles amid an exhausting final charter.
In the closing moments of the finale, Sandy said that Tumi was an "excellent" chief stew.
"I need a vacation ASAP," Tumi joked before she left the boat.

Luka brunton.
Below Deck Med Season 8 marked Luka's first time as the bosun, and Sandy had nothing but praise for the Below Deck Down Under alum.
"Luka, I'm telling you right now, you belong on the bridge, not the engine room," she said during the tip meeting. She later told him that he was "a leader."
Before he exited, Luka made plans to see Natalya once he got off of the boat.

Natalya Scudder
Though she decided to leave the boat before the charter season ended, Natalya happened to be in Genoa when the rest of the Mustique crew wrapped up.
She joined the crew for their final night out, and she made amends with Kyle before departing.

Jessika asai.
Jessika initially planned to head to Cannes, France with Luka after the season, but she changed her mind.
"With Luka, I learned a big lesson," she said while reflecting on their boatmance. "I just need a lot of time to get over this entire thing."
Kyle Viljoen
The second stew shared a tearful moment with Sandy in the wheelhouse before departing.

"From the bottom of my heart, I can't thank you enough for giving me an extra chance, an opportunity," he told her. "And, not only are you a captain for me, but you are a really good friend. And I respect you [for] who you are, and you are amazing at what you do."
"I know, I feel the same," Sandy responded. "You are a good person."
In his final interview, Kyle said that he felt like he would be "able to navigate" taking on a chief stew position in the future.

Lara du preez.
The lead deckhand shared several sweet hugs with her fellow crewmates, including her mentor, Luka. As she left the dock, she had one final reflection.
"Why did I pack so much?" she wondered as she rolled two of her suitcases down the dock.
Haleigh Gorman
After an emotional goodbye with close pal and bunkmate, Lara, Haleigh left Mustique for the season.
Max Salvador
The deckhand, whose work ethic was questioned throughout the season, had a humorous reaction to being done with the charter season.
"Finally!" he shouted in a confessional. "Freedom, liberty..."

Sandy told the chef that it was a "rarity" for her to see such an enthusiastic chef in the galley.
Lily Davison
Lily was the last crewmate to join the boat, and she certainly left an impression on the rest of her colleagues when she left.
After injuring her ankle on the beach during the final crew night out, Lily left Mustique a bit early to get her leg evaluated by the medic.
In her final interview of the season, Lily reflected on everything that went down and shared her goals for the future.
"I think I have to live my life with no regrets. You've been there, you've done it, everything you need to do, you learn from it," she said. "I could be a chief stew."
