Blue’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond its state-of-the-art propulsion system. The vessel is equipped with an innovative after-treatment system and an advanced wastewater treatment plan utilizing new membrane technology. This system allows the treated wastewater to be safely discharged in “drinking water quality,” according to the shipyard.

The 160-metre yacht BLUE has been given a contemporary exterior and a traditional, fresh interior design, both by Terence Disdale Design. Efficiency and the desire to be as environmentally friendly as possible were key drivers for the technology on board. BLUE is equipped with a highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept developed by Lürssen’s own engineering specialists. The yacht also has an electric Azimuth Pod Drive, which in electric mode can be used separately, or when the PTI units are engaged, with the two propeller shafts. In order to generate less noise and vibration and reduce nitrogen oxide levels, BLUE is completed with a state-of-the-art exhaust after-treatment system. Lürssen’s 525-foot Superyacht Blue Sets Sail

The gigantic vessel has been designed with sustainability in mind.

Lürssen’s sparkling new superyacht, Blue, left the shipyard in Bremen on Saturday, setting sail on her maiden voyage to Malta . Spanning 524.9 ft and weighing in at 15,320 gross tonnes, the gigantic vessel now holds the title of the fifth largest yacht in the world.

But it’s not just size that sets Blue apart in the competitive superyacht sector. The delivery of the ship marks an exciting milestone for the German shipbuilder in its quest to pave the way to a more sustainable future for yachting.

As her name would suggest, Blue has been thoughtfully designed to minimize her impact on the oceans. Lürssen worked with the new owner’s technical project management team for the project, as well as the design team from Terence Disdale , who are the brains behind both the sleek exterior and luxurious interiors.

The new superyacht is fitted with a groundbreaking diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. Developed by Lürssen’s in-house engineering experts, the new technology comprises twin diesel engines that drive two controllable pitch propellers through individual gearboxes.

PTI/PTO units fitted to the gearboxes can be used either for electric propulsion to travel at slower speeds, or for generating electrical energy when the vessel picks up pace. As well as this innovative technology, Blue is fitted with an electric Azimuth Pod Drive, which in electric mode can be used separately, or when the PTI units are engaged, with the two propeller shafts.

These are not token efforts at going green. Rather, Lürssen has spent several years on the project in the hope of inspiring other shipbuilders to create more eco-friendly vessels.

Of course, comfort is also at the heart of the design , and Blue features an exhaust after-treatment system to reduce noise levels and nitrogen oxide emissions. Additionally, the onboard wastewater treatment plant is equipped with new membrane technology that allows treated wastewater to be safely disposed of at what Lürssen describes as ‘drinking water quality.’

All the features you would expect from the planet’s fifth- largest superyacht are present including a pair of helicopter landing sites, a spacious al fresco dining terrace and a swimming platform connected to a beach club. Besides this, very little information about the new vessel is available and images of the interiors have been kept strictly under wraps.

Lürssen’s Project Blue is only the latest example of its efforts to champion sustainability. At the Monaco Yacht Show last year, the shipyard unveiled Alice : a climate-neutral yacht concept that replaced conventional diesel generators with emission-free fuel cells which generate electrical energy based on hydrogen reformed from green methanol.

While Alice was just an idea, the concept served as an important tool to spark conversations within the yachting industry around how to move toward a greener future. Lürssen is also currently in the process of building its first yacht with fuel cell technology (due for delivery in 2025) which will make it possible to anchor emission-free for 15 days or cruise 1,000 miles at slow speed. Alongside these projects, the German shipbuilder set up an innovation lab to test the installation of a marine hybrid fuel cell system on board a yacht.

Pioneering cleaner energy technologies isn’t the only way Lürssen is striving to reduce its environmental impact. The shipyard also works closely with the Blue Marine Foundation – an organization dedicated to putting at least 30% of the world’s oceans under protection by 2030 while restoring precious marine habitats and tackling unsustainable fishing practices.

In fact, Peter Lürssen personally paid for the operating costs of the Blue Marine Foundation for five years, on top of donating $2.3m to fund a project to create a marine protection area around Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Lurssen Launches Project Blue: The Largest Superyacht of the Year

The largest superyacht of 2022, Lurssen’s 160m Project Blue, has hit the water in Germany.

Due to be delivered in 2023, 160m Project Blue was launched at Lurssen's Bremen shipyard in the early hours of this morning. Originally planned to have hit the water late last week, her launch was delayed due to poor weather conditions during Storm Eunice.

As one of the largest superyachts in the world, Project Blue's launch is certainly set to stun the superyacht industry and shake up the global rankings (defined by size). After her launch, Project Blue now takes the fifth position in the Top 100, pushing another of Lurssen's large yachts, 156m Dilbar, into sixth. 

Following the world's largest superyacht, 180.6m Azzam, delivered in 2013 by Lurssen, Project Blue will become the second-largest Lurssen-built superyacht. The German-based shipyard has only further proved its worthy reputation as a leading yacht builder, producing some of the yachting world’s biggest and most recognisable vessels, and now adding Project Blue to their impressive fleet. 

With very little known about the new build and her construction process, Project Blue is one of the most secretive, yet exciting superyacht projects currently underway. We would like to wish Lurssen every success for the next stages of Project Blue's construction and we are certainly looking forward to her future updates. 

Project Blue is a custom motor yacht with a 21m beam, her other specifications are currently unknown.

Project Deep Blue: Semi-complete hull of 130m+ Lürssen yacht technically launched

The semi-complete hull of a Lürssen project, known only as Project Deep Blue, has been spotted for the first time during its technical launch. 

The hull was seen preparing to leave the shipbuilder's Lemwerder site in order to move to Lürssen's Bremen facility for the next stage of construction, which will see the bow segment attached.

While no official specifications have been released by the yard, Project Deep Blue is estimated to measure around 130 metres, although this figure could be significantly higher once the bow is fitted. 

Details about the yacht's design team also remain under wraps, but yacht-spotters have drawn similarities between the yacht's lines and those of Ahpo (now Lady Jorgia ), with the same tapered decks on the forward part of the superstructure. 

The yacht, which is expected to have a gross tonnage of around 9,000 GT, is one of Lürssen's first projects to use the builder's new slipway which is able to accommodate much heavier loads. 

 According to BOATPro , Lürssen has 13 projects in build including Project Deep Blue. She is expected to see delivery in 2025.

Very accessible and as direct as they come. The user-friendliness will somewhat depend on your command of Russian language.

> What is nearest Metro to Boat Station

The nearest station is Rechnoy Vokzal which actually means "Boat Station" in Russian. It's about 600 yards from the boat station - you turn your back to the water, walk up to Leningradskoye Shosse street (abt. 300 yards), cross it underground, walk on in the same direction for 300 yards more and you hit the metro station. There you buy a ticket (20 roubles ~= 80 cents one way) and ride straight to Novokuznetskaya station on the same ("green") line. When you exit the train at Novokuznetskaya, follow the signs to Tretyakovskaya station (it's basically another exit from the same station), go up and ask somebody the way - the gallery is very near (abt. 5 minutes walk).

It used to be one of the Tsar's palaces, then it was occupied by a military academy and right now it's being reconstructed to become the Moscow Government Receptions House. They might finish it by October but I doubt it will be open to the public. And it's 5 metro stops away from the boat station - not exactly close.

The 55m/180'5" motor yacht 'Iris Blue' was built by Heesen in the Netherlands at their Oss shipyard. Her interior is styled by Italian designer design house LUCA DINI Design & Architecture and she was delivered to her owner in January 2024. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Omega Architects.

Iris Blue is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (8V 4000 M63) engines, she comfortably cruises at 13 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 4,500 nautical miles from her 100,000 litre fuel tanks at 13 knots. Her water tanks store around 24,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to Lloyds Register ✠ 100A1 SSC Yacht, Mono, G6 [✠] LMC UMS classification society rules.

Quick checkin (because there were no other people waiting). It's in the airport but quite a walk (and even a little train ride) if you're in another terminal. The rooms are beyond what anyone might need to an overnight airport stay, big and comfortable.

The best place to stay when you have an early flight. On line food ordering had a good selection, reasonable prices and arrived promptly.

Good location, if your flight is to early. You can reach the hotel without leaving the aerport. The terminal B, C, D 15-20 min. E, F 10 min. Possibility of early breakfast. Good staff.

Easy access , no need to leave the airport, very clean room, wonderful 11th floor restaurant and a great breakfast in the morning, for every taste. Excellent stay between the flights for a family with small children! Well-done!

Excellent hotel. Performs its functions on 11 out of 10. Spacious room with a great view of the runway. Spacious bathroom with bathtub and shower (ideal!). Fresh air in the rooms. The carpet on the floor muffles the noise (children were running upstairs, but this did not interfere at all). Good door soundproofing. VERY strong cuisine in the restaurant on the 11th floor, highly, HIGHLY recommended! Had a great evening with inspiring view and atmosphere The staff is excellent everywhere - both at the reception and in restaurants on the 11th and 1st floors. Parking at the entrance for 400 rubles per day - excellent!
