Coming in at 11 feet and 11 inches, the Scamp, now somewhat of a small boat phenomenom, is a lot of adventure waiting to happen. This little gem is fun to sail with up to 4 people, and overnight comfortably with 1-2.

Design Specifications

• Pram bow - Yields a wider beamed boat, an advantage for almost any size of craft. It also allows the crew to utilize more space forward.
• Stowage Cabin - The cuddy on SCAMP serves many purposes. The overhanging cabin top acts like a dodger and is large enough for an adult to sit athwartships out of the weather. Additionally, items in forward lockers can be accessed without water getting into storage area. Stowage cabin also houses a mast box that supports more of the mast than is possible with open boats. This in turn allows for an unstayed mast.
• Unstayed - yields an easier rig to put together, more room in the cockpit when at anchor, and better downwind performance.
• The forwardmost part of the sail in front of the mast provides an counter offset that helps when working upwind, makes tacking easier, and moves the effort more towards the center of the boat when working offwind
• A single sheet controls the rig under sail
• Offset Centerboard - Located in its own case off to the starboard side. This feature opens up the cockpit and allows the crew to stretch out comfortably for overnighting or napping at anchor. The design is based on NACA airfoil shapes to provide sufficient lift while underway.
• Skegs - Two skegs mounted on the bottom make beaching or loading a breeze.
• Buoyancy - The SCAMP has five separate watertight buoyancy areas, forward under the cuddy, below the floor of the cuddy, the aft area under the cockpit, and each seat. This creates a very safe boat even in the toughest of conditions. See the Capsize Tests
• Water Ballast - Located under the cockpit sole, the water ballast compartment holds approximately 170Lbs of ballast at the boat's lowest point and center of gravity. This adjustable ballast system creates flexibility at different points of sail and allows more maneuverability when rowing and putting it back on the trailer.

Our Scamp is built with Okoume marine plywood, covered with 3 coats of epoxy. Six ounce glass set in epoxy covers the hull bottom, first plank, and cabin top. The hull is painted with your choice of a 2-color paint scheme (oil base) in the interior and exterior, except for storage locker in aft which is an unpainted epoxy finish. Varnished items include; mahogany rubrails, coaming cap, cabin trim, laminated tiller, wooden deck cleats, as well as optional bow, transom and cabin front and sides. Standard model also includes:

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds

SCAMP Sailboat

Our own youthful dreams often featured small boats in starring roles. Aboard these simple, stalwart little vessels we'd venture across nebulous bodies of water in search of distant wild shorelines or uncharted islands. We'd land, hike into the interior, and make camp. But always our boats offered refuge from any threat, including summer storms, which we'd wait out beneath our boom tents. At night we'd read sea stories by oil lantern and sleep under a blanket of stars.

Curiously, never once did these visions include negative images of wrestling with a heavy mast and complex rigging, fussing with a smelly, recalcitrant outboard, or being held off shore by our boat's draft. And even when we pictured the afternoon breeze kicking up whitecaps, never once did the vision include a chilly capsize.

It was the dream of returning to those simple pleasures that inspired thoughts of S.C.A.M.P. (Small Craft Advisor Magazine Project). That and a persistent desire to go over "there" - that place we often see but are unable to reach. It seems to happen on every cruise. Never mind that we're usually sailing the smallest boat around for miles, we always come upon some ultra-shallow lagoon or serpentine tidal stream that disappears into the reeds, trees and rushes. To get in there - to really commune with nature - a boat needs to be light, shallow and easily propelled - and preferably flat-bottomed in case we decide to stay right though the ebb. —SCA

1982 Non-Such Hinterhouller Cat boat. These are Great sailing boats and very easy to sail. Once the sail is up you can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Tacking is so easy and this boat responds in the lightest wind. The cockpit is huge for a 30 foot boat. The 12 ft beam is incredible inside. It has the room of most 35ft boats. The Volvo inboard runs great and has plenty of power. The teak holly floor is in great shape and was replace once. The boat needs some work but is in sail shape and is taken out as is. The paint below the rub rails need to be painted and new bottom paint which is why its the cheapest 30 ft non- such in the world. It was out the water and cleaned 2 years ago. This boat brings 35-50k in top shape please do your research you will not have a chance to get a working sailing Non-Such for such a great deal. The boat needs some tlc new lines, cleaning, overall exterior cleaning and teak work, but is overall very sound. This is the perfect boat for an elder sailor or someone that loves to sail with very little work like I said you sit back and have fun no winching when your sailing. Forward Cabin. . Double Berth to Port, single berth Starboard with upper shelf for storage. Beneath has storage space that includes two small vertical Drawers. The cushions are original and show wear but no rips. The Shower Salon and Head Area is very large with propane water heater. The Head area contains a Counter that includes a Stainless Steel Sink. Under the sink is storage space. The Galley is L shaped, and located on the Port side with a large Counter top. A deep Stainless Steel Sink is supported with both Manual and Automatic systems to provide Water Access. Located below the Sink is a stowage locker to store, Cleaners and various other articles. Also provides access to Bronze thru Hole fittings, and pump for different water flow setting. Aft of the cold storage area is a Gimbaled Range Stove and Oven. Aft is a 6'6 Foot Settee and under the Settee is the other water tank plus additional storage. Sail area is an incredible 540 Sq. feet, with two reefing points. Raising the Sail is simplified via the use of the windless. In addition to Raising the sail, all aspects of necessary sail adjustments, including, reefing are controlled within the Cockpit. When the Sail is lowered, it settles into Lazy Jack Lines. The sail is original and in good working order. There are three lockers in the Cockpit, Port and Starboard, with easy access to the Engine, the third aft for two Propane tanks. Extra lines etc. This boat is built like a brick shit house. It leaks no water and I would sail it anywhere. It is a great live aboard. The folding swim Ladder is located on the Stern. Custom made Cockpit Cushions cover the entire seating area. There is a bimini frame needs new cover. Forward, the Vessel has a bowsprit with rollers to accommodate two anchors, A 35 lb. CQR and 30 lb. Danforth.... Additional Equipment included: Fire extinguishers, fenders, life jackets, Dock lines and extra lines. I have a great shipper and have can get a quote for you around 2500 to Panama city or Ga coast. This is at your expense. I am working slowly on the boat and it will be slowly going up in price. The power train consists of a professional factory rebuild on a Westerbeke four cylinder self-bleeding 30 HP Diesel (80 hrs.). Oil changes can be done in less than 15 minutes!. The attached drivetrain is 100% new as of 2014 as follows: Damper plate, Heavy duty adapter plate, Z-transmission, Coupler, Drive Shaft, Dripless seal, Cutlass bearing, Zinc, Engine rails and Mounts. Lewmar winches in good working order, CSI Flexible Furler, Boomvang, Cunningham, Travel Car for main sheet,CQR 20 pound anchor and 100 feet of rope with short SS chain. 2nd Danforth lunch hook anchor, Simpson Lawrence 600 Electric windlass with capstan and deck mounted foot switches, Standard marine radio, New blue sea systems AC and DC electrical panels and all new wiring throughout, including the mast, new Moore digital sonar depth sounder, Bulkhead mounted compass and speed log. The hull is solid hand laid glass in superior condition with new Groco seacocks. The hull was awlgripped a few years back. Misc: Transom mounted SS swim ladder, solid SS bow cleats, Cabin fan, Halogen and LED interior lights, Custom dinette, New interior Cushions, Cockpit cushions (open cell foam), Electric and manual bilge pumps, plug in shore power and plug in generator wiring, SS fuel tank, Solid Brazilian cherry cabin sole, Map table with storage, Panasonic SS inverter microwave, Butane stove top burner, built in icebox and ice chest, deep sink, New Sealand toilet with new 7 gallon holding tank, and electric pump water flush, two New water storage tanks and all new water hoses and deck fittings for toilet, Hanging closet , V-bunk cabin with locking doors. This is a superior sailing boat with a very low center of gravity giving a stable ride without excessive healing. This sailboat is at its best in heavy weather. A great interior (see photos). The Haven 12 1/2 is Joel White's centerboard version of the Herresshoff 12 1/2. This boat was built to the highest standards, completed in 2006. It has a white oak keel and steam bent oak frames. It was built with plank on frame construction over molds at each frame with Atlantic White Cedar. The front deck is 3/8" marine plywood with teak marine grade plywood laminated on top and scribed with lines to represent deck planking. The rest of the wood is all mahogany and teak. The gaff rigged sails (main and jib), are from Center Harbor (Maine) sail makers. The metal hardware is all silicone bronze as are all the screws. All the spars are Sitka Spruce, which is very light weight and very strong. She has Sunbrella main and jib sail covers. There is a marine grade deep discharge 12 volt battery which powers Minn-Kota electric trolling motors for auxiliary power. There is also an AM/FM/Marine stereo system with iphone/ipod input and two mounted speakers. A galvanized wire lifting harness is also included. It comes with a custom built galvanized Triad trailer (~2006), which has a custom mast holder and "sail off" capability. New paint and varnish was completed inside and out in April, 2015 using Epifanes Varnish and George Kirby Jr. paint. The boat is located near Detroit, Michigan - worth the trip! $20,000.
