Harbour View Restaurant by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron
Ratings and reviews, location and contact.
Disappointing; the restaurant has been revamped into faux-Italian, and kept the higher end prices, menu and dinner service wait times that suggest fine dining quality. However, the tables and chairs are still made of light plastic, and our meal experience was average: the"12 hour roasted... lamb" we expected to be succulent was dry and the beef was on the tough side. We preferred the pre-Covid dinner menu and its range of seafood. More
Good food fresh, one of the finest restaurants in the neighbourhood. Staff are fantastic, helpful & friendly. Seafood platter is amazing. Bucket of Prawns, bucket of Muscles, pile of S&P Calamari, Bugs, 1/2 doz Oysters, crumbed Whiting Scallops fries and fresh fruit. All in a... quiet alfresco setting overlooking the bay. More
As always the manager here is brilliant, we always have a chat with her and always goes out of her way to make us feel special and update to date with our order. Her customers service skills are making us come to the RQYS more... often. The food is great, we shared the reef and beef for 2 and it was perfect. Our table of 10 all had positive feedback. More
Thank you for taking the time to send such a positive review. Lovely to have you join us at the Harbour View Restaurant and we look forward to seeing you back at RQYS. Kind regards Lenore Bennett Restaurant Manager
Oh my goodness, booked a table for 8 for lunch..... very dissatisfied, salt and pepper calamari was so salty couldn’t eat it, and pizza was ordinary too. Too expensive because quality was so poor. Staff looked like they had to be dragged to work, not... a smile in sight. Food came out at different times, so some of our table had finished while others just started. No collection of empty glasses or plates. What a shame because it’s in such a good position overlooking the harbor. Will not be going back. More
Hello Alex As mentioned to Ingrid in the previous review, we are sorry to hear that you and your group had a poor experience at our Boardwalk CAFE. We would like to invite you and your friends back to enjoy a meal at our Harbour... More
I have been going to RQYS for over 30 years. I have been to weddings, 21st & 60th parties. I can honestly say that today was the worst meal I have ever been served. Party of 7 for lunch. We all ordered at the same... time. Meals were served from 1st to 7th at least 10 minutes between. Two of us had the barra with lentils. It looked like something I would NOT serve to my dog. I did eat the fish, but it was cold & not cooked in the middle. There was enough lentils to feed 20 people. Some ordered desert & we had to ask 3 times as to when it would appear. $50 for the meal, for what it was, is way over the top. Will not be returning. KM More
Great location. Menu has 3 prices for every meal, member, guest, public. All way over the top for what you receive. $16.50 for a pint of Kirin. I had flathead fish of the day. Tiny bit of fish, smothered in batter, cool chips and last... weeks salad, (even the salad was only some lettuce leaf with radish). $36.00. We thought it would be a nice meal out but so far off. Even the toilets were disgusting. Of the 9 meals order only 1 burger was reasonable, not great, just reasonable. It is obvious as to why the Main Street of Manly was busy but this place nearly empty. One star for the location but we will never be back. More
From the moment our grouped walked in the door for our booking in the cafe we were ignored. Trying to get someone’s attention was difficult! Staff unfriendly, meals average and came out at different times. Table left uncleared until we had left 2 hrs later.... Overall a poor experience - won’t be back. Compliments to the lady who took the original booking over the phone very helpful & friendly. More

The manager Lenore is absolutely wonderful. If she can help you she will and her attitude roles through to her staff who are also amazing. the food is also great and large portions and the view is just stunning. This has been a favourite of... our families for years and whenever we have people come from out of town it is always the place we take them to show off the area. More
Hello Alison, many thanks for your kind words. Lovely to have you join us at the Harbour View Restaurant. We look forward to you dining with us again. Kind regards Lenore Bennett Restaurant Manager
Visiting the area, I enjoyed numerous meals here. The location is the real drawcard, but on every one of my visits for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food was good (it's not fine dining, but it's good food) and the service was excellent! Great value... for money compared to similar venues around Australia. Bar prices were cheaper than most City and South Bank venues but a bit more than a lot of clubs. Bookings are essential on big occasion days and nights, but normally you can just roll up. Loved the location and the great staff in particular - just nice, friendly, helpful but still very professional. Really enjoyed the place! More
Seems like a good concept having external caterers take over the restaurant. Sad not to see any of the RQ staff we know & love retained and taken up by the catering company. Very good food and reasonable prices. A few teething issues which is... to be expected in these early days. More
Sorry today the service alone was terrible, just had to walk out. As a paid member I wonder why I keep paying to get service like this at the cafe. If you can’t get your customer service skills right just to take a coffee, what... more do I have to say! More
Seafood Platter for 2 was Fantastic....Fresh Qld seafood ( mix of fresh & crumbed) with beautiful fruit & wine. Service delightful and views sensational. Cheers to the RQYS Team!
Great service, fantastic food and a lovely view. We had the Butchers Board and it was absolutely delicious, also we had the best oysters we have had in a long time. I highly recommend you try this restaurant.
At manly Marina cove for family wedding, we ate most meals at yacht club and found the food of excellent quality and a beautiful spot to enjoy each other's company whilst watching the boats sail in and around the area.
The location and views are fantastic. We ordered the steak sandwich which I have to say is probably the best I have ever eaten. The prices are very reasonable too. There is a lot of seating and it is spaced well, we didn't feel like... we were sitting on top of other guests (I hate that!). The perfect place to stop in for a drink. The locals are spoiled with this place. The service was fast and very friendly. More

Squadron Harbour View Restaurant, RMYC, Manly, Qld. Dine by the marina and overlook the bay. Terrific service & fresh produce. Royal Manly Yacht Club #facxual_events
The RQYS is a gated complex that encompasses a cafe and bar, function areas and big marina, where berths can be bought or leased. It's home to a sailing and a powerboat fraternity and I've only been there for a functions; a wedding, an end of year do and a state government thing. The backdrop of boats and bay is gorgeous, so definitely worth a visit. The Boardwalk cafe has and interesting looking menu, priced about the same as the other Manly cafes, but haven't tried it.
The restaurant ambience was great, the staff very helpful, friendly and polite. The Food awful!! Had the Bang Bang Chicken & Prawn Salad!!! There were 2 prawns a mini amount of chicken, a couple of cashews, limp lettuce leaf, more rocket type lettuce and a mountain of shredded carrot!! Unbelievable for a quality restaurant to serve such poor and mean portions of food. I sent the plate back to have it returned with some more prawns, some more chicken a couple more cashews, but still the same pile of lettuce and carrot I had pushed to one side earlier. I was offered not to pay, or order something else, which I did, a steak (to be safe), but before the steak was even cooked the old salad dish was given back to me.

Brilliant location although the service is poor. Young staff can not pull a beer. Kids are allowed to run through the bar, also stand at the bar. Bar management need to improve and remember licensing laws.

Back in my village after 2 months travel. Glad to see RQ's standards have been kept up. Great fresh food, great wine list, excellent service and what a view. Nice way to wile away a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.
Welcoming and friendly club. Need to be signed in by a member or be a visitor living more than 15km from the club. Sports Bar restaurant spacious and bright overlooking the boats. Reasonable menu range. Food was good.
Excellent food (not cheap), lovely setting. Good range of seating and bar is well stocked. The views over the marina are beautiful.

REVIEW: Ancora Bistro @ Royal QLD Yacht Squadron
Sharing is caring!
Recently we were invited to have breakfast at the lovely Ancora Bistro (part of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron) in Manly, so we could report back to you on our experience.
Located on the Manly Esplanade, Ancora Bistro is a wonderful restaurant for the entire family . They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and definitely worth putting on your bucket list.
The bistro is easy to find with heaps of parking.
Ancora Bistro is also on our kids eat free Brisbane list, which you can read here! Places Where Kids Eat Free In Brisbane!
Value for money 4 Variety of kids menu 3 Portion sizes 4 Food quality 4 Special dietary options 3 How likely are you to recommend the venue? 5
We loved the food!!
The kids pancakes were HUGE, and the food was SCRUMPTIOUS, and that is definitely a good thing when you go out for a meal!
Staff Friendliness 4 Willingness to accommodate kids 5 Prompt delivery of meals 5 Additional services like child care N/A
The staff are exceptional and it was so easy to communicate with them. They brought out the food quickly and made changes to our table when the sun came out and we got a bit hot.
While we waited for the meals, we walked down the pontoons and fed the fish! The kids loved it.
The menu offered a wide variety of food, which was really tasty. The breakfast pancakes were amazing!
High chairs and change tables 4 Room for prams and strollers 4 Dedicated play area 5 Can parents see into play space 3 Caters to all age groups 4 Is safely fenced and away from bar 4 Adequate parking 5
Not only was the food delicious, but the restaurant itself was large and comfortable for us to enjoy a delicious meal. All the facilities were clean as well. The area for the kids was outdoors and could be seen from most of the bistro. They have just installed a brand new playground, so the kids can enjoy that while the adults are chatting at their table.
If you have very small children, you will have to watch them if they head out onto the grassed area as there is no fence separating the dining area from the water area where they launch the boats.
The area seemed very casual and relaxed. In the morning we had breakfast, most of the other customers were families.
I thought the menu was a wonderful standard. We were there for breakfast but the restaurant seemed to have a nice atmosphere throughout the day. Please keep in mind it is on the edge of a marina, but the kids could have a little splash in the ocean.
The bistro had a nice vibe about it. The kids loved their meals, and they even eat free on Mondays, with every paying adult. The food was amazing, the staff was friendly and the facilities were on point! Overall this is a great place for families to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, whenever you’re in the area.
This kid friendly restaurant in Brisbane is a great place for families with children, to enjoy a nice meal.
Get Out With Kids Tip – Before or after your meal, we recommend you take your scooters or bikes on the Manly foreshore for a ride, and if you visit on Sunday you could even stop at the markets!

“I just wanted to write and let you know about our very first visit to the Sandgate yacht club. We spend half of our lives in Italy, and had not had the pleasure of visiting, till a friend mentioned the club.
We were happy with the menu….more than sufficient for a balmy Sunday on the terrace with a cool breeze blowing. On this occasion, we did not participate in the wine menu, but I did see there were single glass offerings for the designated driver as well as a comprehensive wine list.
We were in 4 people…only two ordering the same plate, and all plates were well presented and tasty. ALL staff were friendly and welcoming, and we will definitely return.”
yours faithfully,
Beverley and Giambattista Nicoli

RQYS Launches Custom TV Channel, Now Available for Other YCs
Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron
August 18, 2022
Members visiting Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) are greeted by beautiful on-water content displayed on the televisions around the Club. Behind the scenes, this content is running on a video content platform called RQTV that was developed to showcase the Squadron’s races, events, and on-water activities.
RQTV is the initiative of RQYS’s own media man and videographer, “Spikey” Mike Middleton, with the technical assistance of Krys Stedman.
At one time, there was a notable lack of desire for Members to participate in post-sailing gatherings and events following the racing events of the day. In assessing why this might be the case, it was noted that the Squadron’s bar and restaurant had the perfect set-up to visually engage Members with screens placed throughout the space, which only looped ads on upcoming events and dining specials – which were not particularly compelling or interesting to Members.
As an experiment, Mike Middleton, who is experienced in media, replaced the ads and instead displayed his videos of the day’s events. As expected, Members loved seeing themselves on-screen and being able to relive the day’s events from a new perspective. Suddenly, there was a new desire among Members to stay for the event to watch the videos, and engagement and camaraderie grew as they stayed at the Club longer than they had previously.
Seeing an opportunity to share these videos with a larger audience, Mike attempted to upload the videos on social media. However, it became apparent that not all Members engaged with social media, and so were not able to view these videos outside the Club. He thought outside the box, and created RQTV. Now, regardless of whether someone’s approach to social media, anyone with a computer, smart TV or phone can view and download these beautiful videos by visiting https://rqtv.com.au/ .
Expanding to Other Clubs
RQTV is branded and organized specifically for RQYS, but that doesn’t mean that other clubs can’t take advantage of this platform! To accommodate popular demand, Mike Middleton is currently developing a new site for other yacht clubs: Yacht Club TV is coming soon! YCTV will be a robust content-sharing platform that will be a cost-effective way for clubs to display their videos. There is more work to be done (and is currently underway), but soon clubs will be able to move their content libraries into this online space.
