Romantic Wedding Venues NJ: Surf City Yacht Club

Let’s congratulate Elizabeth and Gregory on their adorable wedding! On September 9th, 2022, this lovely couple tied the knot at one of the most romantic wedding venues in NJ: The Surf City Yacht Club in Surf City, NJ. Our talented team captured their day incredibly on their wedding videography.

First off, Elizabeth and Gregory started their day by getting ready in the company of the bridal party. Elizabeth wore a beautiful white dress and her hair was perfectly done. In the other room, Gregory looked so handsome in a beige suit. Next, once everyone was ready, they shared a mesmerizing first look together in front of the beach. The look on their faces could not have been more perfect. Now they were ready for the big moment. 

It was a beautiful day for the couple to have an outdoor wedding at this romantic wedding venue in NJ! The guests entered the ceremony, taking their seats ready to see the happy couple say their vows! Gregory stood there with his groomsmen waiting for his bride to make her way to the altar! Finally, Elizabeth began to walk down the aisle with her father. The adorable couple read out loud their vows, and right after, they were finally pronounced husband and wife! Gregory got to kiss his bride at last! Finally, the happy couple walked down the aisle together hand in hand with their adorable dog too! 

It was now time for the reception! The venue was decorated beautifully with lights and flowers. Elizabeth and Gregory entered the reception, and they couldn’t have been happier with the guests cheering for the newlyweds! It was a perfect moment when the newlyweds shared their first dance together!  Elizabeth and Gregory ended their day at the golden hour in front of the beach in this romantic wedding venue in NJ. What a fantastic celebration!

A Guide to LBI Wedding Venues

There are a variety of LBI wedding venues on Long Beach Island, NJ for couples to choose from! I think I might even have trouble narrowing my favorites down to one. But if you are searching for the perfect wedding venue on LBI, here is a great place to start.

Picking from one of LBI’s wedding venues can be one of the more challenging aspects of planning a wedding. It took me a while to settle on the type of wedding I wanted. There was a lot to consider. Each time we revamped our plan and analyzed our wants/needs, I felt like I was starting over from square one. For the most part, I was. And it was stressful. So, I decided to attempt taking some of the research stress out of your LBI wedding venues search by compiling a list of places to get married in LBI.

The following list includes LBI wedding venues to have your reception. If you are looking for the perfect spot for your ceremony, check out this post here with a guide to LBI Ceremony venues, here . And if you want to find the perfect place for a small intimate wedding or elopement on LBI, check out this post here .

Before searching LBI wedding venues, you may want to consider the following:

• How many people are going to be on my guest list? Remember to include yourselves and your wedding party.
• How much to I want to spend per guest? A ball-park figure is ok for this stage of planning, but you might want to identify a maximum, and work within a range.
• What’s my total wedding budget? (You don’t have to nail this down to the penny yet. You may choose a venue that changes how you budget for other aspects of your wedding.)
• What is the general look and feel I want for my wedding? Many of these LBI wedding venues have a style…
• What time of year do you want to get married? There are three “seasons” on LBI; In Season (May through October), off-season (November through April), and winter. While you can get married in the winter season, many LBI wedding venues are closed. It’s good to know the “seasons” because it does affect your pricing, and some venues, like the yacht clubs do not offer wedding dates during the summer months because those dates are reserved for their members.
• Will your ceremony and reception be at the same location?
• Do you want a beach ceremony?
• Have you thought of the need for a backup plan in case of rain for your ceremony?

Yacht Club LBI Wedding Venues 

Yacht club weddings on LBI present some unique challenges. They were, for the most part, not designed as an LBI wedding venue. While most have full kitchens, some are more caterer-friendly than others. Some are more wedding-friendly than others. And some are only available to members. But a yacht club wedding is always amazing. In my opinion, yacht club weddings require a wedding planner. There can be so many details to manage. If you really want to relax and enjoy your day, a planner (like myself) can help to ensure that you so.

Brant Beach Yacht Club | Brant Beach

One of my favorite LBI wedding venues, the Brant Beach Yacht Club is a beautiful bay front venue that can accommodate up to 170 guests, comfortably. With stunning sunsets, and reasonable site fees, it’s one of LBI’s most popular venues.

The Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club | Beach Haven

The Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club is a beautiful place to host your wedding, but it is for members only. It is an amazing place to host your wedding. If you want to see more (and really, who wouldn’t!) check out Kathleen and Richard’s navy and green nautical theme wedding here .

Shelter Harbor Marina | Beach Haven

The Shelter Harbor Marina is a small wedding venue that is available only to members of the marina. You can do a sit-down dinner here, but I wouldn’t recommend it for more than 75 guests. A cocktail-style reception would be prefect. A beautiful view and their sunset are the bonus, but it’s third floor location (with an elevator). And this can make it a challenge for deliveries and vendors.

Spray Beach Yacht Club | Spray Beach

One of LBI’s older yacht clubs, Spray Beach Yacht Club has a beautiful design. It is available for members to host a wedding reception.

Surf City Yacht Club | Surf City

Surf City Yacht Club is available to the public for weddings and is a beautiful spot with views of the Barnegat Bay and sunsets that can’t be beat. And those ceilings and windows! You won’t have to do much with the decor because the view is the star here! With a stunning deck overlooking the ceremony space and the bay, this is a beautiful location. This is one of the Ycaht Clubs on LBI where you do not have to be a member to rent for any type of event. You can also increase the capacity here by tenting the bayfront.

Lbi foundation of the arts & sciences | love ladies.

More traditional LBI wedding venues?

Hotel lbi | ship bottom.

Hotel LBI is LBI’s newest wedding venue, having opened in 2019. Located in Ship Bottom, immediately past the bridge. Hotel LBI is a gorgeous wedding space. The Conservatory (ballroom) can hold up to 220, but I think it’s best kept around the 200 mark (especially if you are considering a band). Ceremonies can be help down the street on the beach in Ship Bottom (just get a permit), on the Hotel’s roof, or even at the Lighthouse in Barnegat Light.

Bonnet Island Estate | Manahawkin

Bonnet Island Estate is a gorgeous bay front venue that can accommodate up to 250 guests, and is one of the premiere venues on LBI. The site fee is $14,000 – $29,000; depending on the season and the extent of your rental (the entire estate vs. 5 hours window). The Gables | Beach Haven

The Gables is a Victorian Inn in Beach Haven, NJ. It’s a charming venue with a garden atmosphere and the food is incredible! They can accommodate an out door ceremony with 120 guests, an indoor reception with 110 guests, and an outdoor reception with up to 200 guests. They do have a 75 guest minimum. Mallard Island Yacht Club | Manahawkin

Mallard Island Yacht Club is another premiere LBI wedding venue. It can accommodate a maximum of 250 guests. It has beautiful views of Barnegat Bay and is surrounded with decks overlooking the water and fire pits for a relaxed atmosphere. Site fee is $13,000-26,000; depending on the season and the extent of your rental (the entire estate vs. 5 hours window)

The Sea Shell Resort | Beach Haven

The Sea Shell Resort is available April, May, June, September, October the Seashell feels like a destination wedding resort without having to travel to an island! They can accommodate up to 217 guests and they have plenty of room for guests to stay on location. With a beautiful location for an ocean front ceremony and reception.

Do you want to hold your LBI wedding (and in some cases your ceremony) in a restaurant or hotel that can accommodate a wedding?

Parker’s garage | beach haven.

Parker’s Garage can accommodate up to 180 guests. It’s got amazing bay front views and the sunsets are unbelievable. Most couples plan for a beach ceremony and reserve the LBI Historical Association or the Spray Beach Chapel as a “plan B” in case of bad weather.

Daddy O’s | Ship Bottom

Daddy O’s is now available for complete buy-outs, which includes all 22 modern hotel rooms, the restaurant and private dining rooms, bars and outdoor spaces between September 16th – June 17th. We planned an amazing welcome party in their Rum Garden.

The Mainland at the Holiday Inn | Manahawkin

The Mainland is one of LBI’s newest wedding venues. It has ben completely redone and is gorgeous, with a really chic industrial style reception space with wooden farm tables and exposed duct work. . While it’s not on Long Beach Island, it is only minutes away in Manahawkin.

Surf City Hotel | Surf City

The Surf City Hotel can accommodate anywhere from 3-100 guest, the Surf City Hotel is another great LBI wedding venue option.

The Daymark Bar & Restaurant | Barnegat Light

The Daymark is located in Barnegat Light and is a great place to host your reception after a ceremony behind the lighthouse. The food is impressive (try the conch fritters!) and the decor is hip, funky and fun. Impress your guests with sunset views and the lighthouse! Do you want to rent an LBI home and get married while vacationing?

It’s difficult to find homes on LBI that are also used as LBI wedding venues. In the case of most homes, it would be considered operating a business in a non-business zone if they operated as a wedding venue in addition to renting their home for vacationers. There are a few homes located in business zones, but they often have restrictions based on the number of weddings they can offer per year, and the number of permits they receive for tents.

Williams Cottage Inn | Beach Haven

The Williams Cottage Inn is perfect for elopements, and small wedding parties. It can accommodate approximately 10-50 guests max

• 100 guests outdoors, 60 guests indoors
• Perfect for elopements

101 Centre Street | Beach Haven

You can find more information on 101 Centre Street on Facebook @101Centre, or check out the BWE Venue Spotlight blog post. You can rent the home and tent the side yard. Here, with a tent you can have 100 guests. You may also want to check out a few of our blog posts on individual events at 101 Centre Street. Good Morning, My wedding is 9/22/2018. I am having my ceremony at the gazebo by Barnegat Lighthouse and my reception at the Daymark. I am trying to look for a backup location for my ceremony in case it rains. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Bonnie, I would love to give you some backup indoor ideas. I’m pretty sure that in a pinch, you could have your ceremony indoors at the Daymark. It would be difficult to flip the space quickly. You might look want to check out the Spray Beach Chapel. It would be a little bit of a drive for guests, but as a back-up plan, it’s an affordable one. If you’d like to talk more, I’d love to see what other north-end options I can dig up for you. 🙂 Jeanne

Hi Jeanne, Thank you so much for the recommendation. I will look into Spray Beach Chapel. If you could dig up some other options closer to the lighthouse, that would be great. I’ve been continuing to look as well but haven’t been able to find anything.

That’s the problem, on the north end of the island, there are not as many churches or venues. I have plans to swing by the Barnegat Light Historical Society next week. They have funny off-season hours. But when I find out more, I will let you know. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need anything. 🙂

Meet 2021 commodore dr. ron willoughby.

It is my privilege to welcome you back to your home by the bay for the 2021 season. This season promises to be one of renewal, as we carefully emerge from the restrictions of the pandemic with a resolve to restore the activities and relationships that make SCYC our home.

This renewal has taken many forms. Most visible are the renovations to the clubhouse, ensuring that we will have a beautiful and inviting home for years to come. This project will also include upgrades to the waterfront, with improved floating docks for launching small boats and swimming. We have also made a renewed dedication to our waterfront and sailing programs, upgrading our club boat fleet and increasing social opportunities for children of all ages, while maintaining our lively adult social calendar of parties and concerts. We look forward to once again hosting regattas in our prime sailing location, including two national events this season. None of these initiatives could occur without the involvement of our membership, whose devotion to SCYC is demonstrated through their donation of time, skill and energy to our club’s benefit.

To our members- welcome back!   To those of you visiting this website to find out more about SCYC, let me tell you that as this year’s Commodore, I, along with my fellow Flag officers and Board members, are guardians of a proud tradition, 127 years in the making. SCYC is a club for the members, run by the members, and dedicated to enjoying all the benefits that Barnegat Bay can offer- boating, swimming and sailing- and to the wonderful relationships that result when these are enjoyed with others, always mindful that our Bay is a resource to be protected.

Coming Up At SCYC

From May through late October the club hosts events throughout each week and every Saturday evening including barbecues, golf outings, beach parties, concerts and dances. 2021 is packed with exciting social events for everyone!

Youth Activities

SCYC is proud to offer a wide range of sailing and swimming classes for children and young adults. With fun social activities and exciting competition with the other yacht clubs on the island, SCYC is the best place for your children to spend their summer on the island.

Many of the learning and sailing opportunities we enjoy at the club are made available to us by US Sailing, a nonprofit, member supported organization. They are a valuable resource and their programs are essential to our club. US Sailing is committed to building participation at the local level, and we can help them do so.

US Sailing and SCYC are partners through the US Sailing MVP Program. While SCYC has always utilized a breadth of US Sailing resources, our decision to join the MVP Program will introduce even more valuable programs and services to our members, as well as savings on program materials and US Sailing membership fees.

Every US Sailing member contributes to the programs that we enjoy at SCYC. We are all “US Sailing” and I encourage you to join me and every US Sailing member by becoming a member and investing in a thriving future for our sport.

Sailing and Boating at SCYC

The heart of SCYC is our world-class sailing and boating program. We offer races throughout the spring, summer and fall for all kinds of vessels, ages, and abilities.

Our Racing Committee has been hard at work putting together a full slate of regattas for this year.

Youth Sailing and Swimming

We offer an 8-week sailing and swimming program for children ages 4 – 18 who are either Junior members or children/grandchildren of members.

Young children can participate in our “Bay Kids” program to offer a safe and fun introduction to sailing and swimming.

Older children and young adults can join our Waterfront program and compete in weekly competitions with the other LBI yacht clubs!

Social Activities

Come join us for SCYC fun! A festive array of social events for adults is planned on weekends during the season from Memorial Day through mid-October.

Saturday night socials include sunset cocktail parties, bay front concerts, BBQ’s, clam bakes, pig roasts and theme parties. Additional social events include golf outings, game and card nights, and a wide variety of family – oriented activities.

Surf City Yacht Club Wedding | NJ Wedding Photographer

Last May I had the opportunity to photograph a friend from high schools wedding. Mike and I rode the same bus to school because we lived in the same part of town and we actually went to a dance together at some point during our high school days because we had lots of mutual friends.

When Mike approached me and asked if I would photograph his wedding to his sweetheart, Mandy, at a venue on Long Beach Island, I quickly said I would LOVE to! When they came to my studio for a consultation, Mike brought his bride, as well as, his Mom. It was so nice to see her and talk about the big day. I love when men are close with their Moms and respect their opinion in times like these, after all your wedding photography is one of the most important decisions you will make.

Mike and Mandy got ready at separate locations and then we met up at Mandy’s parents house for their First Look on the dock in their back yard.

After their First Look, we traveled to the beach and then went to the venue, Surf City Yacht Club , where they were married and celebrated into the early morning hours.

Emily and anthony's wedding at surf city yacht club, congratulations to emily and anthony on their recent wedding this happy couple tied the knot at st. mary's parish in barnegat., maggie hamilton , local business.

Congratulations to Emily and Anthony on their recent wedding! This happy couple tied the knot at St. Mary’s Parish in Barnegat followed by an amazing reception at Surf City Yacht Club!

Emily started out her day getting pampered with her girls! Her and her bridesmaid got ready with matching silk robes and they even enjoyed mimosas! Our NJ Wedding Photographer captured all of the laughs that were had and all of the preparation for the big day. After getting into her beautiful dress, Emily and her girls took photos on the porch overlooking the beach. Her bridesmaids wore beautiful navy dress, and breathtaking sunflowers filled Emily’s bouquet.

Anthony waited for his stunning bride at the end of the aisle, and you could tell that these two were soul mates! After the marriage was sealed with a kiss, the bride and groom posed for pictures with their dog and our NJ Wedding Photographer captured all of the memories! Nothing but good times were to be had all night! The couple made their entrance in style, with Anthony holding his new bride in his arms while the bridal party made an arch with their bouquets!

A fun night was to be had by all including speeches, toasts, and dancing all night long! The couple had a gorgeous cake with sunflowers all around. What a beautiful summer wedding this was! Our NJ Wedding Photographer was there to make sure this amazing couple can look back on their special day over and over! Before sunset, the newlyweds made sure to pose for pictures on the beach overlooking the ocean.

Congrats again to this beautiful couple and we wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Congratulations to Emily and Anthony on their recent marriage! These two tied the knot at Surf City Yacht Club in Long Beach Island, NJ on a tropical summer evening. This amazing venue is all charm, with the picturesque sunset and the endless rolling seas in the distance. 

The love these two share for each other comes so naturally. As the ocean shined as bright as their smiles, Emily and Anthony walked hand and hand down the dock. Of course, our NJ Wedding Videographer captured every sweet moment these two shared on their special day! 

The ceremony was decorated with florals and had an elegant flare. Both Emily and Anthony promised to love one another forever. In addition, our NJ Wedding Photographer was there as they floated gracefully down the aisle.  

At the reception, our NJ Wedding DJ got the party started for the newlyweds! Heartfelt speeches and toasts were made, and guests danced the night away on the dance floor. Overall, it was a picture-perfect night to remember!

Congratulations, again, to Emily and Anthony on their fairy tale marriage! We wish you endless love and happiness in everything you do!

Surf City Yacht Club

About 1894 a group of young men, who vacationed regularly or lived in Surf City on LBI created an informal club for the promotion of aquatic sports. Over the years these young men, joined by others from time to time, continued their interest despite wars, depressions, and hurricanes and became known locally as the “Surf City Yacht Club”.

In 1936, because bay front lots were being developed, it was decided to “acquire something of a more permanent nature”.

In 1937 lot 36 fronting south side of 9th street were purchased for $200.00.

In 1938 the lot was bulkhead and made fit for use.

In 1939 lots 34 and 35 were acquired expanding their space. These lots eventually became what is the marina today.

In the summer of 1940 it was decided that a formal organization be continued, so on Sept 26, 1940 the Surf City Yacht Club was duly incorporated as a non-profit club under the laws of New Jersey. By-laws were created and Officers elected. The first Commodore was William Lohr; Vice-Commodore was Edward Neill; Secretary-Treasurer was W.H. Jones; and Dockmaster was Joseph Tressel.

From 1941 to 1946 because of war restrictions and the Hurricane of 1944 very little was accomplished.

In 1947 a sailing division of the club was organized by then Surf City Councilman Richard W. Warren Sr. There were 27 sailboats and they would gather at the cove between 15th and 17th Streets (Now part of Surf City Bay Beach) to hold races.

In 1952 as the club grew larger and with a membership of 82 members, it was decided to acquire two additional lots with riparian rights between 9th and 10th Streets. All the while the races were being run from the John Elfman Sr. property located on 15th Street in Surf City. This is where the old original club house was first located as a gathering point for the sailors.

In 1954 a club house was built on the lots between 9th and 10th Streets and is where the present day Surf City Yacht Club resides with the South 9th Street lots comprising the marina.
