Famous for being the largest and most expensive charter yacht in the world, Flying Fox has been garnering the attention of superyacht enthusiasts since it first hit the water in 2019. Built by German yard Lürssen , the 136 metre yacht features vast living spaces thanks to a 20.5 metre beam, resulting in a huge 9,100GT interior. 

Designed by Espen Øino , with interiors penned by Mark Berryman , Flying Fox is packed with premium superyacht features, some of which are rarely seen on yachts. These include a cryosauna, extensive dive centre/ kite surf store and two galleys fitted out with the equipment of chef’s dreams. With all this on board is it any wonder that Flying Fox has proved popular with celebrity superyacht enthusiasts including the likes of Beyonce and Jay Z . BOAT rounds up some of the most unusual facts about the coveted superyacht, starting with its famous price tag.

1. Flying Fox is the world’s most expensive charter yacht

Since being delivered in 2019, Flying Fox has been making and breaking records. As well as being the world’s most expensive charter yacht, setting you back a total of €3 million a week, Flying Fox is also the world’s largest charter yacht.

2. The tender garage can hold a personal submarine

An extra hatch was installed in the tender garage to allow guests to enter the submarine straight from the deck above. The submarine is deployed from a specially designed rack, which is picked up by the crane.

3. Flying Fox is popular among celebrities

With a steep price tag of €3 million a week, Flying Fox attracts some of the most famous celebrities in the world who charter the yacht in locations including the French Riviera and the Aegean coast. Most recently, power celebrity couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z were spotted relaxing on board while the yacht was cruising Cannes and Antibes.

4. The exterior was designed by legendary superyacht designer Espen Øino

Flying Fox’s spectacular curving exterior spans 7,000 square metres and makes the yacht instantly recognisable on the horizon. Flying Fox’s exterior, which features a dove grey hull, was penned by leading superyacht designer Espen Øino, who counts standout superyachts such as the 126.2 metre Lursssen yacht Octopus , 85.3 metre SilverYachts-built Bold and soon-to-be largest explorer yacht in the world REV among his creations .

5. There are five fireplaces on board

Flying Fox includes no less than five real fireplaces on board, helping to create a decidedly cosy atmosphere inside the interior. One can be found in the owner’s cabin sitting room. They work as normal fireplaces but are accompanied by “insulated ducts” which force the smoke through the mast and means the yacht meets marine safety regulations.

6. An in-built irrigation system ensures Flying Fox’s plants stay well-watered

One of Flying Fox’s most unusual features is the greenery in the saloon, which is found bordering the staircase down from the upper deck and in planters set into the balustrade. The space even includes two towering ficus trees. A full irrigation system designed by Mark Berryman was incorporated into the yacht, which links down to the engine control room. There are different watering schedules and nutrients according to the different plants, as well as specialised lighting systems to ensure they receive the correct amount of UV without bleaching.

7. There are two galleys on board producing a maximum of 246 meals a day

It takes a “human engine” to run the might of Flying Fox , according to its captain, with a total of 55 crew on board. Working at a full capacity of crew plus 25 guests means that Flying Fox must produce a maximum of 246 hot meals every day. As a result, Flying Fox carries four chefs working across two different galleys: one for crew and one for guests. The crew’s galley carries a pasta machine and prep area, a lobster tank for fresh seafood, a sous-vide water bath and freezing blenders for creating purées and ice creams.

8. Flying Fox features the first cryosauna ever installed on a yacht

Flying Fox’s 22.5-metre-wide bathing platform leads into one of the best and biggest spas seen on a superyacht to date, which is spread across two floors. With heated limestone floors, the spa includes a 400-square-metre “sea lobby” leading to a huge spa pool holding water that can be changed from steaming to icy within a matter of 10 minutes. But the piece de resistance is the cryosauna which comprises an antechamber at -60 ̊C leading into a main chamber at -110 ̊C. The maximum period inside is recommended at three minutes after which guests emerge with a post-sprint endorphin rush.

9. The dive centre features enough gear to make even hardcore enthusiasts swoon

A combination of a dive centre and kite surf store sits to starboard off the sea lobby on the lower deck. There’s enough equipment here to stun even the most advanced divers, from an advanced nitrox mixing system to a super-quiet compressor. Divers of all levels can be catered for – from beginners starting in the main deck swimming pool to certified clients who can undertake expeditions down to 100 metres.

10. The outdoor kitchen can cook a whole lamb

Designed around a preference for eating al fresco, Flying Fox includes an extensive outdoor kitchen on the bridge deck aft which includes a wok station, coal-powered Spanish grill called a Josper, and a rotisserie capable of cooking a whole lamb, goat, or suckling pig. Also included is a churrasco (steak) oven, pizza oven, teppanyaki and tandoori grill. This arrangement allows guests to watch the chef at work from an extendable dining table.

Three time’s a charm for the owner of Flying Fox . Not only did he want hearts to beat faster when guests came aboard this magnificent 446-foot Lürssen, the owner wanted to make sure he included every whim and fantasy for his own pleasure. Think features like the two-deck spa, a professional dive center, two helipads for corporate helicopters, the world’s largest transverse swimming pool and, naturally, a cryotherapy center. He also staffed it former Olympic athletes and British ex-military to provide a first-class crew.

The good news is that Flying Fox can be shared by the rest of us—or some of us, for about $4 million per week. The length makes her the  largest yacht available for charter . Delivered in 2019, she has just about every luxurious amenity imaginable. In a very real sense, she doesn’t just raise the bar—she sets a new one.

The first glimpse of the turquoise Espen Øino exterior is a quick reveal of the scope of the six-decked vessel. On the aft end, the 40-foot swimming pool immediately catches the eye. The largest transverse pool on any yacht, it has a retractable wall that can divide the water in two. That gives guests a choice between fresh water or salt, and temperatures ranging from steaming to icy.

The yacht’s two helipads also offer owners and guests a degree of flexibility. The 60-foot spot on the stern is the primary landing area for the owner’s H175 Airbus helicopter, with a second 49-foot helipad on the bow. Capable of carrying 12 guests, the H175 is one of the few VIP-configured models on the market. It’s also the owner’s favorite mode of transport.

Built for private use but conceived with the potential for charter, Flying Fox took three years to design. The owner wanted to make sure he included everything he’d missed on his previous two yachts. Imperial Yachts managed the build and is now overseeing charter.

“The original design process was about finding the balance between what the client was expecting and what was possible in terms of technology,” Eric Lepeingle, Imperial’s head of sales and charter, told Robb Report during an exclusive virtual tour. “The idea of having a meticulously designed yacht that also delivers on a technological front really pleased him.”

Beyond her sheer size, the intersection of technology with gracious living is what defines Flying Fox . A large sundeck converts into a dance floor by night, offering live music, private dining and fireworks for the ultimate shindig. The 1,300-foot, two-decked wellness spa is one of the signature accomplishments of the design. Its “sea lobby,” with heated limestone floors and louvred oak paneling, one of the inspirations from interior designer Mark Berryman, makes a beautiful welcoming area, while the sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and relaxation room (with a fold-down balcony at sea level) set the tone.

Flying Fox also has the first cryo-sauna ever installed on a yacht, bringing the spa experience to the next level. It has an antechamber set at -40 ̊F, followed by a main chamber at -116 ̊F. Cryotherapy is typically favored by elite athletes for muscle regeneration. “When he’s on board, the owner enjoys kitesurfing, jet skiing, diving,” says Lepeingle. “He wants to be able to recover quickly. He also wants charter guests to be able to enjoy any activity, so the yacht is designed to anticipate all requirements.”

Adjacent to the Zen-themed spa is the dive center, which includes a three-person decompression chamber and the option to dive depths of up to 328 feet. “To date, our charter guests have enjoyed diving depths of no more than 165 feet,” says Lepeingle, “but if people want to push their limits, we can help them to do that in the most secure way.”

Supporting this ethos are the 54 onboard crew. The sports, gym and diving instructors are either former Olympic athletes or ex-British military. The helicopter is serviced by a dedicated pilot and engineer, and the onboard hospital (directly connected to a mainland hospital on a 24/7 basis) has a permanent medic. “Most the crew are typically ex-military because the owner believes military personnel have discipline and experience that normal crew don’t,” says Lepeingle.

Another prerequisite of the owner is the aft open-air galley. Five different types of ovens—tandoor, pizza, barbecue and two rotisseries—are joined by two teppanyaki grills and an alfresco dining area that seats 24 guests. Its five chefs cater for multiple diets and cuisines, all freshly prepared in full view. “One of the rotisseries can fit an entire lamb,” says Lepeingle. “The banquet opportunities are exceptional.”

As a PYC-classified yacht Flying Fox sleeps up to 25 guests, with a crew-to-guest ratio of two to one. The 328-square-foot master suite on the main deck stretches the full 74-foot beam width and takes in a dedicated salon, gas firepit and private jacuzzi (one of three on board). Even the onboard 20-foot irrigated trees are well-watered.

Flying Fox has mostly cruised the Eastern Mediterranean, with Turkey and Greece being the owner’s preferred cruising grounds. The yacht did a stint last winter in the northern most atolls of the Maldives. Currently in port in the Mediterranean, she will be heading to Croatia this summer and is available for charter through Imperial.

Top contributor pushkinflyteam brings us this incredible albeit shocking drone video from Moscow as Europe's largest city was virtually shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020. This DVOW nominated film opens with a shot looking toward the ultra-modern Moscow City skyscraper district.  Starting at about 1:20 there's a shot flying over the nearly-empty Krymsky Bridge, and at 3:35 you'll see the Church of Christ the Savior.  This video earned a nomination in the Lockdown category at the NYCDFF.

Check out this stunning drone video of Moscow in the throes of the Russian winter, compliments of former DVOW winner pushkinflyteam. At the :30 mark, there's an incredible shot looking over the Kremlin walls on the Moskva River.  At about 1:05, you'll see Red Square, on the opposite side of the Kremlin from the river. At 1:30, you'll see the Krymsky Bridge, just upstream from the Kremlin.  Other featured spots include the star-topped MSU building (1:55), the Pushkin Bridge (2:00), the Moscow City District (2:05), and more.

Former DVOW Finalist nikybwd brings us this excellent "four season" drone video of the great city of Moscow, Russia.  The video opens with some shots looking towards the Kremlin and Red Square.  At the :11 mark, you'll soar past the massive Ostankino transmission tower.  At the :16 mark, there's a great shot looking over a gold-domed church towards the skyscrapers of the Moscow International Business Center.  Other featured locations include the Zhivopisniy Bridge (:21), the Lenin Statue at VDNKh (:39), VTB Arena (:42), and more.

The title of this video, "Desperation of Moscow in Winter" is evocative of the evacuation of Napoleon's starved Grand Armee from the Russian city in the winter of 1812 and the stopping of Adolph Hitler's Wehrmacht just outside the gates of the city in the famously cold winter of 1941. Award-winning contributor Timelab.pro shot this amazing aerial tour of Moscow in the frigid winter of 2017-18. Shot with a DJI Inspire 2 drone carrying a Zenmuse X7 camera, it is nothing short of an aerial masterpiece.

"Moscow City" is the informal name for the Moscow International Business Center, a newer commercial district of the Russian capital city known for its towering skyscrapers.  Contributor MichaelMsk77 used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this beautiful video of the modern district.  At about the :17 mark, you'll ride along for a climb up to the top of these behemoths.  Here are five of Europe's seven tallest buildings as of 2018, the group's tallest  being the 95 story, 374 meter (a bit over 1.2k ft.) Federation Tower.

Contributor Valius Video used a drone to create this bird's eye view of the New Jerusalem Monastery, which is not located anywhere near Israel.  Rather, it is in metropolitan Moscow, the great Russian capital city.  It was built in the 17th century on a site which was (vaguely) reminiscent of the "real" Jerusalem.  The monastery was heavily damaged by invading German troops in late 1941, marking very nearly the furthest advance made by Germany during that campaign before being driven back.

Moscow International Business Center (sometimes called Moscow City) is the Russian capital's swank new business district which lies west of the core city.  In recent years, it has become the skyscraper capital of Europe: as of early 2019, it is home to six of the ten tallest buildings in Europe.  The allure of its gleaming towers has caught the eye of top FPV pilots like contributor craig_dt; in this video you will see him take on the tallest of them in an epic FPV skyscraper diving session.

Prior to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the city of Moscow was the home of many of Russia's greatest noble families.   Three of the best known families, the Galitzine, Trubetskoy, and Bibikov clans, also had country homes in the area of Grebnovo, within the Shchyolkovsky District just to the northwest of central Moscow.  In this drone video from Vizaero, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of these great manors, which was the site of several fires in recent decades and is currently in a ruined state.

Moscow's VTB Stadium is one of the city's main sporting venues.  It includes both a football stadium and a hockey arena.  Opened in late 2018 at a cost of about US$1.5 billion, it's built on the site of the old Dynamo Stadium northwest of the center city, just outside the second ring road.  The stadium's "official" capacity is 27k, although it can be adjusted to accommodate as many as 45k fans; the ice arena can hold between 12-15k fans depending on configuration.  You can check out the modern marvel from above in this drone video by nikybwd.

Check out this fantastic droen video of the giant Ostankino TV Tower in Moscow, Russia, compliments of top AirVuz contributor pushkinflyteam.  Situated a bit to the northeast of the center city, the massive tower carries signals for virtually all of the TV and radio stations available in the Russian capital.  Standing 540 meters (just under 1.8k ft.) tall when it was completed in 1967, it was the tallest structure in the world for nearly a decade.  The tower remains the tallest freestanding structure in Europe as of 2020.

While Moscow has long been one of the world's most important cities, it's only in recent years that it's developed a world-class skyline.  The epicenter of the transformation has been the Moscow International Business Center, a district whose development was conceived in the early 1990's shortly after the end of Communist rule.  Situated just east of one of the ring roads, the district is home to six of Europ'e eight tallest buildings as of 2019.  In this drone video, you can get a bird's eye view of this remarkable project.

Check out this beautiful drone video of a town on the Moscow Canal, compliments of brand-new AirVuz contributor and pilto Nikitosiooo. The town is called Dolgoprudny, and it's located about 20 km (around 12 mi.) north of Central Moscow, just outside of the second ring road which encircles the great Russian capital city.  The canal, which connects the Moscow (Moskva) River to the Volga River, runs for a length of just under 130 km (about 80 mi.).  It was built by prisoners of the Gulag system during the Stalinist 1930's.  

Fpv diving the msu tower, moscow state university russia fpv cinematic, since it was completed in 1953, the main building of moscow state university has been the most visible landmark in moscow.  and yet, you've probably never seen this (rare) stalinist architectural masterpiece from the perspective of a racing drone.  that's right.  flying his racing quadcopter with first person view (fpv) goggles, award-winning contributor pushkinflyteam took a dive down this massive structure, for decades the tallest building in europe, winning a spot on the fpv pilots to watch list in february, 2021., sokolniki park, moscow - sokolniki, sokolniki is a northeastern district of moscow, russia.  the natural centerpiece of the district is sokolniki park, whose name (derived from "falcon") references the hunting birds which were bred here for hunting use by the royal family several centuries ago.  it's been designated a municipal park since the late 1800's.  in this drone video by lego, you'll get a bird's eye view of the park as well as the surrounding district.  the video was shot in the winter months, when the great city was blanketed in snow., balashikha: eastern moscow suburb, summer in balashikha, chedck out these excellent drone views from greater moscow, compliments of nikitosiooo.  he filmed the area around the town of balashikha, which lies on the pekhorka river just east of the mosow ring road.  the town came to prominence by virtue of its location along the vladimir highway, a historical road which led east of of moscow to nizhny novgorod and in its modern form is known as the volga motorway.  beginning in the 19th century, the extensive waterpower resources here led to balashikha becoming an important industrial center.  , meschersky park, moscow autumn, covering around 465 hectares (1,150 acres) of forest, playgrounds, hiking and biking trails, and cross country skiing tracks, meschersky park in moscow is a massive city park.  it's located southwest of the city center, just outside of the outer ring road.  in this drone video by airvuz contributor and pilot nikybwd, you'll get some great aerial views of this vast, well-manicured green space, just as the leaves have started to change from a blanket of green to spots of yellow, brown, and orange. , vdnh: giant exposition center, moscow vdnh, moscow's exhibition of achievements of national economy (vdnh) is one of the great public spaces of the russian capital.  the giant complex includes exhibition pavilions, an amusement park, and large open outdoor spaces.  it's located in the ostankinsky district, north of the center city and close to the ostankino tower.  originally constructed during the stalinist 1930's, it's recently been extensively renovated.  seen here in this drone video by evan-armas, the complex covers a land area larger than the state of monaco.  , moscow aerial collage, aerial footage. moscow №2, top airvuz contributor and drone pilot vadimushka put together this brilliant aerial collage of the great russian capital city of moscow.  the video will take you all over this city, whose metropolitan population of 20 million is the largest in europe.  while you'll get some great views of some more familiar sights like the neva river and the moscow city skyscraper district, the video also features some outstanding footage of the city's giant highways, it's massive railroad yards, giant apartment blocks, and sprawling suburbs.  , around moscow by drone, urban moscow, home to nearly 12 million people, moscow is the powerful capital of russia. at its core is its seat of power, the kremlin. other famous locations include the red square, st. basil’s cathedral, lenin’s mausoleum, and the bolshoi theatre. capturing unique shots, like a soccer field in the middle of a circular building complex, or the glistening lights of the endless sea of glass buildings, this drone video gives us a different taste of the europe's largest city, courtesy of contributor nikybwd., moscow by mavic mini, moscow sunsets.

AirVuz contributor Supasanya used a DJI Mavic Mini drone to create this fantastic aerial tour of Moscow, Russia.  The video opens with a shot of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill, followed by the Ostankino Palace, just north of the central city.  Starting at about the :33 mark, there are some great views of the skyscrapers of the Moscow International Business Center.  Other highlights include the Kudrinskaya Square Building starting at about the :40 mark; this was one of the Stalinist era "Seven Sisters" skyscrapers.

Take a first person view (FPV) tour of wintertime Moscow, Russia in this fantastic piece by top contributor pushkinflyteam.  Stating at the :45 mark, there's a shot skimming the River and ending with a view of the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building, the tallest in Europe when completed in 1952.  Then you'll head to the main building of the Moscow State University, another Stalinist era skyscraper which is arguably the city's second-most recognized landmark after the Kremlin.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list.

It has been announced that the brand new Lurssen Superyacht FLYING FOX will join the Charter Fleet .  At 136m (446.19ft) she will become the World's Largest Yacht ever officially marketed for Charter.

One of this year’s most sensational new yacht launches, FLYING FOX is destined  to become its most exciting charter yacht .

Only delivered to its owner in the Spring of 2019, FLYING FOX is an enticing opportunity for those seeking not only the very best in yachting style and luxury but also the cache of being one of the first people to experience this 136m (446ft) motor yacht .

The 16th longest superyacht in the world, FLYING FOX enjoys 9,100GT of interior volume, making her one of the largest superyachts afloat and a charter yacht of near incomparable luxury and space. Her superb pedigree fuses the large yacht dream team of German mega yacht builder Lurssen with renowned designer Espen Oino , delivering a remarkable design that flows across her five exterior decks.

FLYING FOX’s sculpted superstructure and decks deliver more than just aesthetic pleasure, creating numerous terraces, balconies and viewing areas from which guests can enjoy the seascape. A huge and quite unique 12-meter swimming pool is perhaps the stand-out deck feature, though, running across the yacht’s vast beam.

Able to accommodate up to 22 guests, rather than the more usual 12, FLYING FOX's guests will be served by a crew of 54, a luxurious ratio of more than 2:1 that is sure to deliver the most incredible charter yacht holiday.

The interior design is the work of Mark Berryman, the British designer creating lavish but also balanced accommodation that is perfect for charter. An entire private master suite on the upper deck is joined by 10 class-leading guest suites, each with its own private terrace, a truly wonderful and rare feature.

Located high on the bridge deck, large and beautifully finished living areas run across two floors, offering incredible views for the two salons and dining areas.

A 400 square-metre two-floor spa is another stand-out feature, with hammam, sauna, massage area, gym and cryo sauna. A lower deck spa area is also included, connecting to the beach club with its dive centre and direct to the sea.

Other notable features include a full cinema, twin heli-pads, custom-built tenders including a 12.5m enclosed Limo tender, and a beach landing craft. Finished in a  dove grey hull, this is not only one of the most desirable charter yachts in the world but perhaps also the most impressive.

L-29 delfin trainer jet.

The L-29 Delfin trainer jet is a Soviet military plane produced in Czechoslovakia between 1963 and 1974. At its time, the L-29 was the primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Force’s pilots .

Its turbojet engine producing close to 9kN of thrust allows the L-29 to climb at an impressive rate of 14m/s. The plane top speed is 820 km/h , similar to most conventional airliners.

L-39 Albatros fighter jet

The L-39 Albatros has been developed to succeed the L-29 Delfin as primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Forces from the early 1970s on to the late 1990s.

Additionally to its versatile trainer role, the L39 was being used as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft and in combat as a light ground attack aircraft .

The L-39 is powered by a turbofan engine, developing close to 17kN of thrust. The jet rate of climb is a skyrocketing 21m/s and its top speed a whooshing 910km/h .
