This $12 million yacht looks like a spaceship and can cross the Atlantic twice on a single tank — see inside 'Adastra'
- A sleek, lavish megayacht fit for a Bond villain, called "Adastra," has hit the market for $12 million.
- Thanks to its efficient shape and lightweight construction, the yacht can cross the Atlantic twice without refueling and boasts a total range of around 11,500 miles.
- Adastra has a master bedroom, two guest cabins, and room for six crew members.
- Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories .
Some people can't simply settle for a regular, run-of-the-mill superyacht like all the other millionaires and billionaires — they need something a bit flashier to set them apart from the crowd.
For those people, there are yachts like Adastra , a sleek, custom-built trimaran that's currently on the market for a cool $12 million.
The extravagant vessel — which looks less like a yacht and more like something out of "Star Wars" — is built for exploration, according to Burgess Yachts , which has the boat listed for sale. Due to its streamlined shape and lightweight construction, Adastra can travel across the Atlantic twice over without needing to refuel. Plus, Adastra's unique design means it can venture into shallow harbors and get up close to islands, unlike most traditional yachts.
But this multimillion-dollar yacht is built for pleasure, too — it sports multiple sunbathing areas, a diving platform, a lavish main room, three cabins for guests, and space for six crew members.
See inside Adastra:
Adastra, a spaceship-like megayacht fit for a Bond villain, has hit the market for $12 million.
Commissioned in 2012 by shipping tycoon Anto Marden at a cost of at least $20 million, according to Robb Report, the trimaran yacht was built to cover vast distances and cross oceans.
Source: Robb Report
Thanks to its efficient shape, lightweight construction, and 15,000-liter fuel capacity, Adastra boasts a range of 10,000 nautical miles, or roughly 11,500 miles.
That means the 140-foot ship can cross the Atlantic twice over without having to refuel, and its owner has done just that, he told Robb Report.
Plus, the yacht sits less than four feet below the water line, so it can venture into shallow harbors where traditional yachts can't.
After spending several years cruising the globe aboard Adastra, Marden is ready to sell the head-turning vessel and give more attention to his other yacht, he told Robb Report.
To keep passengers comfortable on long journeys, Adastra is every bit as luxurious as it is capable.
Inside, there's a main living space with a wraparound lounge area ...
... and panoramic windows.
The yacht features lots of custom materials — including lightweight oak cabinetry — to decrease weight and improve fuel efficiency.
Behind the lounge, there's a full dining area ...
... complete with a kidney-shaped wood table and a pair of skylights.
Toward the back of the interior, there's a sofa and a bar area.
Below deck, there's a master suite that spans the full width of the hull.
The master bedroom has a private full bath and desk.
In total, Adastra sleeps up to nine guests ...
... along with six crew members.
There's a second full bathroom below deck as well.
The helm station has seating for two, and is raised up above the rest of the yacht.
On the aft deck, there's teak flooring and a couple of lounge areas ...
... including a full dining setup for meals outside.
The back of Adastra sports a large diving platform and has room for two "tenders," smaller boats for recreation and for getting to and from port.
A sliding door at the front of the main saloon gives way to a covered lounging area on the bow.
Plus, there's a tanning area with bean bags for catching some rays. If all that sounds appealing and you've got a spare eight figures sitting around, this may be the yacht for you.

What the US$600M 'world's biggest yacht' will look like inside
It's set to be one of the largest private residence yachts in the world when it launches in 2024, but what does a luxury apartment on board the 728 foot (221 metres) Somnio actually look like?
Interior renderings of the US$600 million vessel have just been unveiled, offering a glimpse inside what's being described as the world's first "yacht liner."
While all 39 of the floating apartments, which come with a private balcony or terrace, are said to be "fully customizable," some of the options showcased include huge shell-shaped beds, expansive living areas with ocean views, and wall-length mirrors.
FLOATING HOMES
Prices start from around $11 million, with sizes ranging from 1,600 to 6,500 square feet -- the largest condo takes up most of the top deck.
Somnio, which means "to dream '' in Latin, was designed by Winch Design and Tillberg Design of Sweden, and will be built by Norwegian ship designer and builder VARD.
The interior renderings were devised by Winch Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden along with Luttenberger Design.
Those who snap up a condo on "the most exclusive address in the world" will get to work with one of the design teams for up to three months in order to "decide the room configurations and select the materials, furniture, lighting and artwork."
EXCLUSIVE ADDRESS
A gym, a library, inside and outside dining spaces, "distinct" dressing areas and a "vast living room space with 270-degree forward views" are among the options available, although the layout is to be based on the buyer's preferences.
The identity of the owners will be kept secret, but all residents will have access to full concierge services "for both onboard and land-based needs."
"As the only residential superyacht in the world, we are delighted to work with designers that complement our exacting standards," Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, said in a statement.
"Our owners will experience only the best, as is befitting of a yacht of this nature."
SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS
According to its designers, sustainability will be a key focus for Somnio, which is to be constructed with the "latest clean engine technology" along with materials and products to "create environmentally responsible interior design with a reduced impact" where possible.
Among the shared on board amenities onboard available include a 10,000-bottle capacity wine cellar and tasting room along with a lounge located in the ship's bow, a spa, a movie theater, restaurants and a beach club.
Residents will be charged an annual fee to cover expenses like maintenance and repairs, along with fuel and food.
A spokesperson for the project tells CNN Travel that Somnio has attracted exceptional interest since it was unveiled earlier this year, with some apartments already sold.
At present, The World, which measures 643 feet, is the largest private residential yacht on the globe, with a combination of studios as well as one to three-bedroom apartments on board.

What becomes of a sanctioned Russian billionaire’s superyacht after it’s seized ? In the case of the $75 million Axioma , the end result was an auction for way below its market value.
The lavish 236-footer, which was seized from Russian steel magnate Dmitry Pumpyansky in March, attracted 63 bids at a sale in Gibraltar. A true watershed moment, it is the first public auction of an oligarch’s asset since Russian forces invaded Ukraine in February.

The superyacht, which boasts six luxurious guest cabins, an infinity pool, a spa and a 3-D cinema, was detained by the Gibraltar government after a legal claim from JP Morgan said Pumpyansky’s holding company Pyrene Investments owed the bank more than $20 million.
The Office of the Admiralty Marshal in Gibraltar confirmed on Tuesday that 63 bids were received for Axioma , but refused to reveal the value of the bids, as reported by the Guardian .

“The successful bidder will be selected by the Admiralty Marshal but details of the bidder and the value of the offer will remain confidential,” the court said in a statement. “Details about the sale value of the vessel will be made available once the transaction has been completed which could take place in approximately 10 to 14 days.”
James Jaffa, a lawyer for British firm Jaffa & Co, told the Guardian that he expects Axioma to sell for “way below” $20 million.
The west has confiscated billions worth of assets since March. British and American authorities have previously said they would seek to funnel the proceeds of sold assets back into Ukraine. This auction has attracted controversy, though, because Axioma has been sold not for the benefit of the Ukrainian people, but for the US investment bank.
Still, the has set a “benchmark” for other banks looking to recoup losses by auctioning assets.
“ Axioma will be a watershed moment for assets that have bank financing against them because all the other banks will realize that the asset can be sold and that they can get some or all of their money back,” Jaffa adds.

Sold: Yacht With a Waterfall. Price: $19 Million. Broker: George Santos.
Just before his House election, Mr. Santos helped two of his largest donors reach a private deal on a $19 million boat, mixing his political and personal interests.

A $19 million luxury yacht deal brokered by Representative George Santos between two of his wealthy donors has captured the attention of federal and state authorities investigating the congressman’s campaign finances and personal business dealings.
The sale, which has not been previously reported, is one of about a dozen leads being pursued by the F.B.I., the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn and the Nassau County district attorney’s office, people familiar with the investigation said.
Prosecutors and F.B.I. agents have sought in recent weeks to question the new owner of the 141-foot superyacht — Raymond Tantillo, a Long Island auto dealer — about the boat and his dealings with Mr. Santos, including his campaign fund-raising efforts.
Mr. Tantillo bought the boat from Mayra Ruiz, a Republican donor in Miami. Mr. Santos negotiated the payment — $12.25 million up front, with $6.5 million more in installments — and advised the two on the logistics of turning over the yacht, according to a person familiar with the sale, which took place a few weeks before his election in November.
It is not clear what laws, if any, may have been broken in the transaction. Several election law experts said that if the sale was designed to inject money into Mr. Santos’s campaign, it may be in violation of federal law governing caps on campaign contributions. It could also be illegal if Mr. Santos tied any commission he received on the sale to previous or future donations.
But even if Mr. Santos broke no laws, the deal serves as further evidence of an emerging narrative given by people in his political orbit — that Mr. Santos seemed to use his campaign not only to win elected office but also as a networking exercise to ingratiate himself with rich donors and enrich himself from those contacts.
Mr. Santos has denied wrongdoing. Joe Murray, a lawyer representing Mr. Santos in potential criminal matters, declined to comment, as did spokesmen from the F.BI., the United States attorney’s office in Brooklyn, and the Nassau County district attorney, who is working with federal authorities on the investigation.
Mr. Santos’s campaign finances and personal business dealings have been under scrutiny following revelations by The New York Times in December that Mr. Santos had fabricated or embellished most of his résumé. The Times has since reported on curious omissions in his campaign filings, an unregistered fund connected to him, and other irregularities in his finances.
A central mystery is Mr. Santos’s sudden, unexplained jump in income, and where he got the money to loan himself roughly $700,000 over the course of his 2022 campaign.
During his first bid for Congress in 2020, he reported an income of $55,000; two years later, he reported a $750,000 salary and over $1 million in dividends from his company, the Florida-based Devolder Organization, which Mr. Santos described as a “capital introduction” business.
Mr. Santos, a Republican, has said publicly that his company brokered deals between high net-worth clients. In an interview with Semafor in December, he sought to explain his work by saying that if a client wanted to sell a plane or a boat, he would “put that feeler out there” among his contacts, adding that he had landed a couple of million-dollar contracts.
“If you’re looking at a $20 million yacht,” he told Semafor, “my referral fee there can be anywhere between $200,000 and $400,000.”
As it turns out, there was, in fact, a yacht worth nearly $20 million.
In 2019, records show, John H. Ruiz, a Miami lawyer and businessman, bought a superyacht made by the Italian yacht builder Mangusta. The yacht, which was listed at the time for 18 million euros, or $20 million, sleeps 12 guests and seven crew, and featured an infinity pool, a waterfall and an outdoor shower. It was called “Namaste,” a greeting in Hindi.
Mr. Ruiz, a Coral Gables lawyer who specializes in health care and malpractice claims, gained notoriety last year when he took his data analytics company public in a reverse merger with a special purpose acquisition company. The company, MSP Recovery, briefly had a record-setting valuation of nearly $33 billion, making Mr. Ruiz a billionaire many times over.
But the stock promptly plummeted to a dollar a share and, in June 2022, he and the firm’s co-founder lent the company $113 million to plug a cash shortfall.
Mr. Ruiz did not donate to Mr. Santos’s campaign, but his wife, Mayra, was a particularly generous supporter. Campaign finance records show that on March 31, 2022, Mayra Ruiz gave $10,800 to Mr. Santos’s joint fund-raising committee. Later, she was among the first to give Mr. Santos money after he won the election.
Mr. Santos has failed to disclose any of his Devolder clients. But in December, the Tantillo Auto Group — Mr. Tantillo’s network of car dealerships on Long Island — and two organizations tied to Mr. Ruiz’s family were identified by The Daily Beast as Devolder clients. The Daily Beast quoted Mayra Ruiz saying the family had hired Devolder in early 2022, but did not provide more detail.
Ms. Ruiz did not respond to requests for comment. Christine Lugo, a lawyer for Mr. Ruiz, said her client was “not interested in making any statement other than the fact that he has already publicly disclosed that he does not know who George Santos is and has never contributed to his campaigns and has never done any business with him.”
Mr. Santos, by many accounts, mingled campaign fund-raising with personal business opportunities. Several donors have described encounters with Mr. Santos at fund-raisers in which he would describe deals he could broker with other donors in industries including insurance and pharmaceuticals, or he would tell them about donors who were seeking to sell businesses or luxury items.
Mr. Santos would offer to bring people together, with the implicit understanding that he would take a cut, they said. The pitches were often paired with requests for donations. None of the other potential arrangements described to The Times appear to have resulted in deals.
Among the donors he courted, Mr. Santos seems to have grown close to Mr. Tantillo, according to people familiar with their relationship.
Mr. Tantillo gave more than $17,000 to Mr. Santos’s campaign and affiliated committees; his estranged wife is recorded as giving at least $5,000 more, as is another ex-wife. (Contribution limits in New York congressional races in 2022 were slightly altered after a state court ruling scuttled an electoral map and forced an August primary; the Federal Election Commission held that candidates could raise additional funds.)
In August, Mr. Santos approached Mr. Tantillo with an offer to sell him the yacht. The agreement was hammered out in late September in Coral Gables, and Mr. Santos suggested moving the boat into a free-trade zone at the port, the person said.
It is common for boat sales to take place in a free-trade zone before going overseas — often, the Bahamas — and returning with a new owner, according to another person familiar with the sale and with the Miami port system.
As negotiations progressed, Mr. Santos pressed Mr. Tantillo for additional donations and financial help for his campaign and for other Republicans as Election Day drew near, the person said. Mr. Tantillo did not provide additional funds.
“I have every reason to believe that Mr. Tantillo will not be charged for anything, including the purchase of a boat or campaign contributions,” said Robert Curtis Gottlieb, a lawyer for Mr. Tantillo.
At least one other large donor was asked for a major contribution weeks before the election, The Times has reported .
After weeks of negotiations, Mr. Tantillo agreed in September 2022 to buy the yacht, according to a person familiar with the sale. The deal was brokered by Mr. Santos with Ms. Ruiz, according to emails described to The Times.
On Nov. 3, 2022, “Namaste” left for the Bahamas from its berth in West Palm Beach, Fla. Fifteen days later, port records show, the boat returned to Florida under a new flag — the Cayman Islands — a different name and a new owner.
Mr. Tantillo rechristened the boat “Neverland.”

Fact Check: Did US Pay for Zelensky $75 Million Yacht?
T he strength of Ukraine's defensive campaign against Russia has been hanging in the balance as $60 billion in U.S. aid to Kyiv remains holed up in Congress.
Congress has failed to approve a $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine, as requested by President Joe Biden . Despite significant bipartisan support for Ukraine aid, the measure has stalled amid a series of partisan disputes over border security and other issues.
Amid the uncertainty, one viral claim suggested that Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky , had misappropriated $75 million worth of U.S. aid to buy a luxury yacht for himself.
A post on X , formerly Twitter , by Gunther Eagleman on February 28, 2024, viewed one million times, said: "We are $34,352,000,000,000.00 in debt.
"Zelensky's yacht is $75,000,000.00 of that.
"No more money to Ukraine."
This claim is inaccurate.
U.S. aid to Kyiv is itemized and audited by the government to ensure spending in Ukraine is allocated appropriately and not misused.
The Office of Inspector General Oversight in the Department of Defense (DOD OIG) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID OIG) both provide audits of the use of funding in Ukraine and investigate complaints and allegations of misuse or attempted misuse of USAID funding and DOD funding.
Part of the USAID OIG 's remit includes examining avenues for fraud and corruption in U.S-funded foreign assistance programs and providing preventive measures.
These include (but are not limited to) verification of cash assistance, using regulated money transfer agents and using security-locked beneficiary lists before they are disseminated.
The notion, therefore, that Zelensky would have managed to expense a $75 million yacht using U.S. funds, that are tightly regulated and monitored, and by doing so risk any opportunity that Ukraine may have to secure future U.S. funding is highly unlikely.
The $75 million yacht story is part of a debunked conspiracy theory based on some of Zelensky's associates.
Multiple social media users shared claims that Zelensky used proxies to buy two yachts, called "Lucky Me" and "My Legacy," The Associated Press reported in December.
However, as has been debunked by multiple fact-checkers , the boats that were listed have not been sold. While a Memorandum of Agreement on the sale of these two boats was shared online and mentioned the names of Zelensky's associates, Boris Shefir and Serhiy Shefir, the company that originally produced the document said it was "no longer endorsed" by them.
The document did not mention Zelensky.
While Zelensky's financial relationship with the Shefir brothers has been scrutinized elsewhere, there was simply no evidence produced from this previous investigation that showed any credible link between the purchase of these yachts and the Ukrainian president.
The user who posted the claim, Gunther Eagleman, has a history of making unfounded, misleading claims, some of which Newsweek has investigated.
It is also not the first time that President Zelensky has been the subject of false rumors about his expenditures. Newsweek has previously debunked claims that he owned a $20 million mansion in Florida, another multi-million dollar yacht, and that first lady Olena Zelenska spent $1.1 million on Cartier jewelry in New York .
No evidence supports this claim. U.S. aid to Ukraine is strictly audited and regulated. Much of the funding the U.S. provides to Ukraine is based on the allocation of existing resources, not on new spending. In any case, the chances of Zelensky making such a purchase, by doing so risking any future support from the U.S. and Western allies, are pretty much nil.
While two of Zelensky's associates were linked to the purchase of luxury yachts, other investigations found the yachts in question were on sale and no paperwork attached Zelensky to their purchase.
