Our fleet base is located at the new Port of Skiathos which is just a couple of kilometers from the airport and about a 5 to 10 minute taxi ride depending on traffic.

Sailing Itineraries from Skiathos

Skiathos offers some fantastic sailing for both one and two week charters. You can start your holiday by enjoying the unspoiled bays and small ports of the Gulf of Volos. Note that Istion's charter base in Volos is also a good spot to start your charter if the Gulf is where you want to spend most of your time. Further west, the beautiful green islands of the Sporades including Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros then beckon you to pay them a visit. Sheltered and unspoiled anchorages along the way, coupled with sandy white beaches, are a common feature of all these islands.

The area is well known for the Alonissos National Marine Park. Dolphins, sea turtles and the endangered Monachus-Monachus or Mediterranean Seal lives there. If you are lucky you may encounter some of these most beautiful and friendliest of marine creatures on your trip!

An eden of natural beauty in the Aegean Sea

The smallest island of the Sporades archipelago, Skiathos is revered for its pristine coastline of immaculate beaches, lush pine-covered hillsides and cool summer breeze. The most idyllic spot to begin island hopping the Aegean Sea, the beautiful soul of this island stands out amongst the lively and sociable ambience, and will be a memorable stop on your Greek yacht charter trip.

Considered to be the most beautiful place in the Mediterranean by many, nowhere better represents the natural splendour of Skiathos than Koukounaries Beach. The air is heavy with the scent of nearby pine trees, and the entire area is a protected nature reserve. The beach is a glittering sweep of soft white sands lapped by crystalline waters, which offer watersports if you’re so inclined. Just around the headland from here is Banana Beach, where you’ll find Nest Beach Bar, a fashionable spot for a sunset cocktail.

For a more secluded beach experience, walk through the forest from Koukounaries to Elia Beach for sands where you may not find another soul. Or visit Lalaria Beach, which is only accessible by boat. A tranquil strip of bleached egg-shaped pebbles which contrast starkly against the bold aqua of the ocean, this beach is truly breathtaking and can be found on Skiathos’ more remote northern coast.

If you’re looking for a break from beach life, you’ll find what is left of the ancient Kastro Fortress perched precariously on the northernmost tip of Skiathos. The restored ruins date back to 1540 and provide an insight into this beautiful island’s history against pirate invasion. The views across the glittering Aegean Sea are stunning too. Afterwards, head inland towards Skiathos Town to seek out Moni Evangelistrias, an 18th century monastery and the place where the Greek flag was first raised. There is also a vineyard here with a quaint café, where you can soak up the Grecian atmosphere. 

Skiathos Town is one of the prettiest towns you’ll see throughout the whole of the Sporades Islands . Fringed with pretty shops and restaurants, it is a meandering maze of alleyways and streets just begging to be explored. If you get lost, even better, as you’re sure to come across a typical Grecian café or taverna like Marmita Restaurant. One of the best places to eat in Skiathos, this Mediterranean restaurant is renowned for its exquisitely creative dishes and tranquil, candlelit courtyard. Skiathos Town also has a couple of museums dotted around, if you feel like whiling away a few hours. 

Skiathos Marina is a large marina conveniently located in the main town and is fully equipped with all suitable facilities. Able to accommodate vessels with a maximum length of 65m, this is most certainly the perfect place to berth and discover everything Skiathos has to offer. This haven of idyllic beaches and lush nature is ready to be explored on a yacht charter vacation.

The Sporades Islands are located within the Aegean Sea north of Athens and are a quieter charter grounds than the popular Cyclades , just a short cruise to the south. Although the Sporades are still a favourite tourist destination in Greece, there is an emphasis on nature tourism and the nightlife is mostly concentrated in Skiathos Town and beach clubs at the most popular sites. The northern beaches tend to be quieter and once you've had enough of the parties you can simply sail away to a quiet anchorage to awaken to the sounds of nature.

Nearby, Skopelos, Alonissos and Peristera have plenty more stunning beaches with a shipwreck and national marine park to explore. The islands provide excellent Scuba diving and snorkelling sites with crystal clear lagoons and interesting caves, while inland there are hiking trails that will take visitors through scented pine forests, up hills and along coastal tracks to showcase the very best that the island has to offer.

Skiathos Town is the largest settlement on Skiathos and has features and a character that is typical of old Greek towns, including neo-classical designs, seaside forts such as Venetian Bourtzi or Il Kastro to the north and atmospheric monasteries. Aside from the typical whitewashed houses and narrow alleyways of the old town, sailors and other yacht charter enthusiasts should include in their day itinerary the local churches in the Island, and these include the Madonna the Limnia and the Three Hierarchs. A walk around Skiathos Town will also take you to Agios Nikolaos Church and Clock Tower and the Maritime & Culture Tradition Museum to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Owing to the number of beaches - 65 in all - on the Island of Skiathos, most of the major events in this popular yacht charter destination happen along its shores. The majority of the fun activities and events take place in the preferred beach locations such as the Banana Beach and those at Platanias, Megali Ammos, Achladies, Vromolimnos and Koukounaries.

What makes Skiathos unique is that there are no 'villages' on the island, only small settlements that are concentrated along the coast which have sprung up in response to the booming tourism on the island. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures averaging 26°C/79°F and coinciding with the driest months of June through to August. The lowest temperatures sit around 10°C/50°F from December through to February, when the chance of rainfall is also at its highest. June to October is also an excellent time to go for warm sea temperatures above 22°C/72°F, making swimming in the sea comfortable for beginner Scuba divers and snorkelers.

Clothing to Pack For Your Charter

Beachwear is an absolute must for Skiathos, and visitors should take an additional layer to cover up once you've had enough sun. For the towns, smart-casual attire is typical with the glamour factor increased after dark for drinks and meals in the bars and restaurants.

Outside of the summer season, visitors should take additional warm layers and a waterproof layer, particularly for autumn and winter when the weather becomes more blustery.

The western most Sporades island, Skiathos Island is a very traditional, laid back Greek island in the Northern Sporades. The island has 50km of beautiful beaches that make it one of the best tourist destinations for a seaside holiday in the country. One example - of 26 - is Koukounaries Beach which is a sandy beach and one of the most popular on the island with its pine forest.

Skiathos Town itself is a laid back affair with traditional Mediterranean architecture and is very appealing in its own right.

History (ancient and modern) has passed through the island but you won't find lots of Minoan or Athenian relics. It focuses more on the present, though at a pace where time almost stands still rather than blazing into the future. People have longer lifespans here and that's because of their diet and laid back culture thoughnot from high octane, high paced living.

Skiathos itself is widely held as one of the best places to begin a yacht charter in the Sporades. Thanks to its airport and ferry port (in nearby Loutraki Port) it is well connected to the rest of the world.

To the NE is Alonnisos, a forested and hilly island with beautiful winding dirt roads that is so laid back it makes Skiathos look like Kos.

The strait between Alonnisos and nearby Kira Panagia is a national marine park where you will see a wide range of marine flora and fauna including the mediterranean monk seal and different turtle species.

Heading north toward Thessaloniki on the mainland there is also the Chalkidiki Peninsula. There are three 'fingers' to this peninsula and for those seeking to genuinely escape, we would recommend the Athos 'finger', the northernmost of the three where only Greek tourists tend to visit.

How To Get To Skiathos

Skiathos Airport

This is a holiday airport that only operates international flights between early May and October. It is a short hop from there to the marina.

Athens Airport

With considerably more airlines flying into the country's capital city you can catch a bus or taxi to Agios Konstantinos and then catch a ferry to Skiathos Port. Suggested Sailing Routes From Skiathos

Being the main boat rental centre of the Sporades Skiathos Marina is the perfect place from which to explore these sleepy, laid back Greek islands on a sailing holiday. There are opportunities to go to the mainland too, both on a skippered or bareboat charter.

7 days - Sporades archipelago: This is more about getting ashore and exploring as against blasting out to sea on long legs. Alonnisos will be your port on Day 3 with stops in Loutraki on the same island and then Skopelos. After the rugged island of Allonisos you head out on a longer leg to Skyros. You then head across the Aegean back to Skiathos.

14 days - Skiathos to Volos one way: This is an opportunity to explore the Pagasetic Gulf, where the tale of Jason and the Argonauts is based in part - he built his trireme in Volos. Volos itself is a busy modern port - a bit of a shock to the system after a week of tiny fishing villages and unspoilt harbours. You will find some astoundingly beautiful, deserted beaches and safety from the Meltemi for much of the trip - with the exception of the leg across the Aegean Sea into the gulf.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Skiathos

The sailing season runs from mid May to mid October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter.

The sea is cooler at the beginning of the sailing season but there is rainfall in Spring. As the days lengthen you will still see green fields and flowers in May and the winds can be quite benign too.

Come September and October the seas are still like a warm bath.

Sailing Weather In Skiathos

In the Northern Aegean the climate has a fairly short, hot summer by comparison to more southerly areas of Greece.

April to mid June: There is rainfall and the temperatures build steadily from the mid-teens to the mid 20 degree C range. There are sometimes gentle southerly winds, thoough these are replaced by ever stronger N-NW Meltemi winds that are rarely hazardous but make for exciting sailing at times.

Late June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat! Temperatures are from 30s with recent hot days exceeding 40. The northerly Meltemi winds can be fierce and can hit F7 for a solid few days.

September-October: The seas remain warm and the Meltemi eases. These months can be the best time of year to sailas the temperatures are often in the comfortable low to mid 20s. In mid-October the tourist season ends.

May to June are the best times of year to go on a sailing vacation out of Skiathos thanks to the comfortable heat and gentler sailing conditions. July and August are hotter and the Meltemi winds can make for exciting sailing, but even so are the most popular months for a boat rental in Greece.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

6-day Sailing Itinerary from Skiathos

Skiathos is a brilliant starting point for discovering the Sporades islands – and there is much to discover! There are 14 islands which make up the Sporades islands - it would be great to sail around them all inside a week, but given the distances involved, it's simply impossible, unless you sail all day, every day, from dusk till dawn. And that would leave little or no time for exploring the villages, beaches, bays, cliffs, monasteries, tavernas and bars along the way, and it wouldn't feel like much of a holiday!

The islands being reasonably close, it's not as easy as you think to get a decent amount of sailing miles in there, but this route clocks in at 108 nautical miles, which means an average of around 18 nM a day. Yachts and cats can travel at 5-6 knots, so that means you should be able to do the sailing in about four hours of meaningful sailing a day, which leaves plenty of time for leisurely meal-times, spending time exploring the things you find interesting at the start and end points each day, or spending time adventuring in bays and finding beaches on the way. You are on holiday, after all...  

If you look to your port side as you leave Skiathos marina, it possible to see our destination in the distance on the nearest island because it’s only a few miles away in a straight line – however, we’re on a sailing holiday, and we want to get some sailing in and get to grips with the boat, so we’re going the long way around, basically circumnavigating the whole island of Skiathos.

We'll start by heading South-west, keeping the coast on your starboard side, as we work our way round. As well as practicing sailing at pretty much all the points of sail, you'll be able to get more of an idea about what Skiathos is all about. You'll pass a multitude of beaches, including the ever-popular Koukounaries beach on the South-west, the party beach of Big banana beach and the neighbouring nudist Little banana beach on the West coast, and the beautiful Lalaria beach on the North of the island. Stop a while at one of the smaller beaches if you fancy, or if things are getting hot.

From Lalaria beach, we’re going to hop across due East to Skopelos island, and the small fishing village of Loutraki. Loutraki is a beautiful little village, and the local beach was made famous by being the shooting location for the recent Mamma Mia film. There’s a couple of tavernas here (or more up the hill in the nearby village of Glossa), but the best thing to do here is to settle down and watch the sun setting over the island of Skiathos. Glorious.  

To get there, we’re sailing North from Loutraki to the northernmost tip of Skopelos island, likely reaching against the prevailing wind. Once you’re round the top of the island, it’s a single tack and a broad reach to follow the coastline South-east to Skopelos Town, which you’ll find nestled in the bottom half of the island. One the way you’ll pass plenty enough bays and beaches, which might be worth a look – the most popular are Agios Ioannis and Glysteri.

Pulling into Skopelos Town might well be the highlight of your trip, with the town surrounding the marina like a giant amphitheatre, so get your camera handy. Now is also a good time to try to remember to take a group shot of your crew!

Once focussed on fishing and growing vines and olives, nowadays, Skopelos is principally a tourist town, with people flocking here from around the world, and some arguing that it is the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean. That said, it attracts a different crowd to those in Skiathos, and you’ll find it a relaxing place to be, and it’s said that people actually walk slower here. There's a good range of shops and services, and it's worth stocking up because we're going remote for the next couple of days.  

From Skopelos, we’re heading north-east, into the prevailing wind, and basically sailing along the length of the West side of Alonissos island, then onwards to Kira Panagia. You should be beating your way up the wind, and by the end of the day you should have a well-trained crew, and you’ll understand the boat so much that you’ll be communicating about tacks by just nodding at each other.

The best and most sheltered anchorage on the island of Kira Panagia is on the North of the island, where there’s a narrow channel that leads into a large bay area, which has plenty of space for throwing down the anchor, and good holding conditions. Pay attention to your charts and plotter when sailing the narrow channel inwards as there are some shallow reefs along one side.

Kira Panagia is part of the Alonissos national marine park, and it is a very tranquil place to rest awhile. The only building on the whole island is a monastery. It was originally built in the 16th century and renovated in 2017, but there has been something on that site for much longer (there are graves outside which date back to 500 AD), and there are a couple of signs that a couple of Roman and ancient Greek buildings were once built on the island.  

From the bay on the South of Gioura, head South-west and head around the south side of Kira Panagia, enjoying the wilderness of it all. Continue South-west, running with the prevailing wind, to the Eastern side of Alonissos, and our destination, Kalamakia, is halfway down on your starboard side.

Kalamakia is a quiet fishing village with a population of just 66 people which has some amazing fish restaurants along the waterfront, a small beach, and a pretty view overlooking the channel to nearby Peristera.  

Peristera is like a nature reserve. It’s completely uninhabited (save for a few shepherds who tend to their flock every once in a while), and overrun with wildlife. The bay you're in should have monk seals swimming and flopping around, plus plenty of birds (look out for Falcons), sea-turtles and it's possible to spot dolphins in the Alonissos national marine park (if you haven't already). The island is also famous for an ancient shipwreck that was found opposite the town of Steni Vela which dates back to 500 BC – it’s an ancient Greek cargo ship which was heading to Skopelos with 1,500 vases of wine from Halkidiki. You need scuba gear to see it properly, but it's only 30m below, and the crystal-clear waters mean you can spot something down there.

From Peristera, we’re heading to the picture-postcard Patitiri, further south-west down the coast of Alonissos. The prevailing wind should be behind you as you run with the wind down the straight, and it's only a short sail away.

You'll find the pretty town of Patitiri nestled in between the pine trees. It’s a relatively modern village that was only built in 1965 – people moved here after a nearby town was destroyed in an earthquake. It's a delightful place to sit, reflect and people watch, and the people here don't seem to have a care in the world. As well as a few Tavernas, there's a couple of bakeries and a mini-market, and a small beach. The marina tends to fill up quickly in peak season, but you can also anchor in the south side of the bay.  

Over the past few days we’ve gone from an uninhabited island to a small village (Kalamakia) to a big village (Patitiri) and now it’s time to return to the sights and sounds of a town (Skiathos). Skiathos is obviously still a world away from being a big city, but it will feel big and busy after the last few days, and you won’t be able to believe the constant noise.

From Patitiri the journey is a simple hop around the South side of Skopelos island, and up to Skiathos. You could also go to Skopelos and over the northern side of it, but going around on the south side of the island means that we’ll have completed a circumnavigation of all four of the main islands we have visited on this itinerary, and seen all there is to see on each island. The first half of the leg will see you running with the prevailing wind (bonus points for throwing in a goose-wing, by the way), before reaching across the wind to Skiathos when you get beyond Skopelos island. Work your way back into the marina, returning the yacht to the vague area you picked her up from, make the lines good, shut down the engines, and we’re done. High-five the rest of the crew for doing a great job!

There's no fuel berth in Skiathos marina – usually a mobile tanker will come around at some point, but check how your charter operator would like you to refuel. Someone will come along and inspect the boat (often with a diver to look at the hull), but you’ll still be able to sleep on-board tonight, before checking-out and returning to dry land proper in the morning.

If you've not had chance to explore Skiathos then now is the time to get out there. It's a lively place to be all week, but Fridays are particularly boisterous affairs as a lot of the package operators (both for sailing and for beach holidays) have changeover day on Saturday, so this will be a lot of people's last night. Sailing Conditions

The Meltemi winds tend to arrive for 2-3 days at a time, and when they do arrive, they can be anywhere from Force 5 to Force 8 (hence needing to check the weather before heading out – don’t just assume it will be a perfect day for sailing if you don’t appreciate this sort of drama!). They're strongest in August.

There’s not really any such thing as prevailing winds in winter, and weather systems are as likely to arrive from the tropical regions to the South of the Med as they are from the cold mountain passes to the North. But the temperature is still warm, and sailing can still be pleasant.

Shopping in Skiathos offers some unusual items, including hand-made jewellery and pottery from the Blue House Art Gallery in the main town and contemporary décor from Saita Skiathos.

Skiathos – Gourmet Experience

You’ll be spoilt for choice in Skiathos as the island is packed with restaurants, cafes and bars. Lo&La, at the top of some steep steps, has the most spectacular views of the bay and old harbour. Time your visit with a full moon, tuck into a plate of squid-ink pasta with octopus and lobster, and you’ll remember this moment forever. The Final Step, also overlooking Skiathos bay, serves modern Mediterranean dishes, including crisp salads and fresh seafood such a sesame-encrusted salmon. With our new, luxurious and full extra equipped sailing yacht, we will offer you the ideal opportunity to set sail and experience a different type of vacation. We are a new yacht charter company based on the mesmerizing island of Skiathos, in Greece. Skiathos is the ideal place to turn your dreams of a yacht charter vacation into reality!

Born and raised in Skiathos, after finishing the high school of Skiathos, she went to University of Athens and had a degree in Civil Engineering. Later, she achieved a Master degree as a Special Education Teacher MEd in the University of Cyprus. She is member of Nautical club of Skiathos and a qualified Sailing Skipper.

After high School in Skiathos, he attended the National and Technical University of Athens for a Degree in Chemical Engineering, and a Master Degree at Computational Fluid Engineering. He has more than twenty years of sailing experience and he is the General Secretary of the Nautical club of Skiathos. He is also a qualified Sailing Instructor of the Hellenic Sailing Federation.

Our qualified Sailing Instructor, certified from the Hellenic Sailing Federation, will teach you the parts of the boat, the principals and terms of sailing, navigation, sailing techniques and maneuver, dock or anchor the boat, Knots, Safety etc.

After a week of lessons during your holidays, you will get the skipper license and you will have the basic skills to be the captain of the boat! The only condition is to be above 18 years old and speak English or Greek!

Charter rates in Euro referring to weekly (7nights/6days) charter period, including:

Current VAT 12% (50% discounted rate on the full 24% VAT rate applicable on long range cruises), Agent’s commission 20% (calculated on net prices, having deducted the VAT), welcome kit, final cleaning, bed sheets & towels (one set per person), first fill for outboard engine, spare bottle of gas, first & last night at the marina / port, use of yacht with her equipment.

Charter rates do not include:

Fuel- & water consumption, crew (i.e. skipper/sailing instructor/cook), berthing fees, provisioning, transfers, charterer’s expenses & extras. Provisioning: Food & beverage can be arranged for Charterer in advance, using Skiathos Yachting Provision List template but chosen food supplies are delivered to yacht only after the yacht has been handed over (check-in complete). Travel services: Airport welcome and transfers, etc. can be arranged upon request.

Embarkation:  charter period start date from 17h00

Disembarkation:  charter period end date by 09h00

Return to Re-delivery Base - Compulsory:  return to base the evening before disembarkation, at 18h00 the latest. Check in/out procedures time is considered to be part of the charter period.

The western most Sporades island, Skiathos Island is a very traditional, laid back Greek island in the Northern Sporades. The island has 50km of beautiful beaches that make it one of the best tourist destinations for a seaside holiday in the country. One example - of 26 - is Koukounaries Beach which is a sandy beach and one of the most popular on the island with its pine forest.

Skiathos Town itself is a laid back affair with traditional Mediterranean architecture and is very appealing in its own right.

History (ancient and modern) has passed through the island but you won't find lots of Minoan or Athenian relics. It focuses more on the present, though at a pace where time almost stands still rather than blazing into the future. People have longer lifespans here and that's because of their diet and laid back culture thoughnot from high octane, high paced living.

Skiathos itself is widely held as one of the best places to begin a yacht charter in the Sporades. Thanks to its airport and ferry port (in nearby Loutraki Port) it is well connected to the rest of the world.

Explore Skiathos By Renting A Yacht

In the Northern Sporades Islands, Skiathos is a great place to sail off into the Northern Aegean. Skiathos Marina in Skiathos Port is a major charter yacht hub and is easily accessed from the island's airport.

A Skiathos yacht charter is great for exploring the Sporades archipelago by sailing yacht or motor yacht including nearby (and larger) Skopelos Island where the movie Mamma Mia was first set in Skopelos Town. To the NE is Alonnisos, a forested and hilly island with beautiful winding dirt roads that is so laid back it makes Skiathos look like Kos.

The strait between Alonnisos and nearby Kira Panagia is a national marine park where you will see a wide range of marine flora and fauna including the mediterranean monk seal and different turtle species.

Heading north toward Thessaloniki on the mainland there is also the Chalkidiki Peninsula. There are three 'fingers' to this peninsula and for those seeking to genuinely escape, we would recommend the Athos 'finger', the northernmost of the three where only Greek tourists tend to visit.

Do consider a trip on a yacht charter Skiathos to Pagasetic Gulf with Volos either the end point or part way of a longer-legged 7 day trip. You will get a mix of pace of life on this trip from the frenetic Volos Port to fishing villages where you wonder if time has touched them at all.

How To Get To Skiathos

Skiathos Airport

This is a holiday airport that only operates international flights between early May and October. It is a short hop from there to the marina.

Athens Airport

With considerably more airlines flying into the country's capital city you can catch a bus or taxi to Agios Konstantinos and then catch a ferry to Skiathos Port. This takes a few hours from end to end but given the quality of the luxury yacht charter holiday you're likely to have, could well be worth your time.

7 days - Sporades archipelago: This is more about getting ashore and exploring as against blasting out to sea on long legs. Alonnisos will be your port on Day 3 with stops in Loutraki on the same island and then Skopelos. After the rugged island of Allonisos you head out on a longer leg to Skyros. You then head across the Aegean back to Skiathos.

14 days - Skiathos to Volos one way: This is an opportunity to explore the Pagasetic Gulf, where the tale of Jason and the Argonauts is based in part - he built his trireme in Volos. Volos itself is a busy modern port - a bit of a shock to the system after a week of tiny fishing villages and unspoilt harbours. You will find some astoundingly beautiful, deserted beaches and safety from the Meltemi for much of the trip - with the exception of the leg across the Aegean Sea into the gulf.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Skiathos

The sailing season runs from mid May to mid October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter.

The sea is cooler at the beginning of the sailing season but there is rainfall in Spring. As the days lengthen you will still see green fields and flowers in May and the winds can be quite benign too.

Come September and October the seas are still like a warm bath.

Sailing Weather In Skiathos

In the Northern Aegean the climate has a fairly short, hot summer by comparison to more southerly areas of Greece.

April to mid June: There is rainfall and the temperatures build steadily from the mid-teens to the mid 20 degree C range. There are sometimes gentle southerly winds, thoough these are replaced by ever stronger N-NW Meltemi winds that are rarely hazardous but make for exciting sailing at times.

Late June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat! Temperatures are from 30s with recent hot days exceeding 40. The northerly Meltemi winds can be fierce and can hit F7 for a solid few days.

September-October: The seas remain warm and the Meltemi eases. These months can be the best time of year to sailas the temperatures are often in the comfortable low to mid 20s. In mid-October the tourist season ends.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

Skiathos Marina is in Skiathos Town, just below the final approach of aircraft flying into Skiathos Airport.

May to June are the best times of year to go on a sailing vacation out of Skiathos thanks to the comfortable heat and gentler sailing conditions. July and August are hotter and the Meltemi winds can make for exciting sailing, but even so are the most popular months for a boat rental in Greece.

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

⚓ Skiathos Marina, Skiathos Berthing – N 39° 09′ 48.59″ – E 023° 29′ 31.20″

🧭 In general, during the summer months the meltemi is weaker in the Sporades region. Approaches to the island are straight forward, no dangers. An exception to this is the approach to the Harbor of Skiathos.

Warning: The approach the Harbor of Skiathos, especially at night, can be tricky because of the confusion caused by the flashing red lights at Dhaskalo islet and at the end of the ferryboat mole. Skiathos Harbor provides excellent shelter.

There are several anchoring possibilities: Anchor in the old harbor, which is the most sheltered. This is frequently impossible because of the large number of day-trip boats. Also it can be noisy here at night. If you do, come stern-to after dropping the anchor in 4-5 m. The bottom is sand with good holding. Dock stern-to the concrete quay of the new harbor (N of the old harbor). There is room for 20 boats here stern to between charter boats to the north and south. The bottom is sand with good holding. You will need to drop your anchor at least 35 meters off the quay to avoid a mooring chain. The newer pontoon or floating dock has essentially been taken over by charter companies. It is unlikely you will find a berth here during weekends (Thursday through Saturday nights) but there is a better chance on other nights. It is worth checking with the charter staff who are frequently on the pontoon. There is an area off the eastern end of the pontoon and south of the pontoon where a dozen boats can anchor without encroaching on the permanent moorings (to the north), the airport flight path (to the east) or the ferries’ manouvering space in the new harbour (to the south). The ferry docks after mid day and may chase away boats too close to their space. Sand, 5 to 7m, good holding. Anchor off on the eastern side of the bay. Good holding.

Warning: Avoid the restricted area along the flight path to the airport. The Coast Guard are likely to ask boats to move if they anchor too far east of the floating pontoon, inside the flight path area and the ferries’ manouvering area.

🗺️ How to get to FYLY charter base in Skiathos Marina marina in Skiathos:

• ✈️ Airport: Skiathos Airport is located 2,5 km from Skiathos harbor.
• 🚌 Local Bus: The bus covers a distance of 14 km. It starts from the harbour and its final destination is Koukounaries.
• 🚕 Taxi: You can find easily taxis at Skiathos Airport. The drive costs approx. € 10 per taxi.
• 🚢 Ferry: Ferries and hydrofoils are arriving from Agios Konstantinos or Volos.

🛒 Provisioning: There are several super markets around Skiathos Port. Your provisions cannot be organized by the FYLY Yachting team specifically for Skiathos Port.

🚇 Transfer facilities: FYLY Yachting could arrange a transfer for you by minibus or by taxi (upon request).

There is no need though to pre-arrange transfer because of the short distances. The marina of Skiathos is next to the harbour in walking distance. The airport is only five minutes with a car. You can find a taxi in the airport upon your arrival.

🛂 Port authorities: Our base manager will arrange everything with Port Authorities. The only thing we require from the skipper of the charter is to have with him his original sailing license and to send a copy of it two weeks prior to his charter. 🌦️ Weather forecast: You should always try to get a weather forecast before sailing away, especially if going more than several miles from shore, as it is difficult to tell at a glance what winds will appear, due to large landmasses, mountains and other geographical features. Kamaz FTL hauler registers NatCar brand

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - National Carrier JSC, the full truckload freight trucking company headed by former Globaltruck CEO Ilya Sattarov that Russian truck maker Kamaz founded this summer, applied to register the brand NatCar at the end of August, the registry of federal intellectual property service Rospatent showed.

The NatCar brand is also mentioned in the recruitment ads of National Carrier, which is actively looking for E-class drivers. It is offering working with this year's model Kamaz diesel trucks from the flagship K5 line and new dry goods (curtainsider) and refrigerated trailers.

National Carrier was founded on July 7 in Moscow with charter capital of 1 billion rubles, the Unified State Register of Legal Entities showed. The company registered two branches in early August, in Yekaterinburg and Elektrostal, Moscow Region. The company specializes in truck logistics and associated activities, including digitization processes.

A spokesman for National Carrier told Interfax earlier that the company plans to provide FTL trucking services using its own fleet, "as well as the resources of hired truckers." The company's fleet will initially consist of 400 semi-trailer trucks with a 50/50 ratio of curtainside to refrigerated trailers, and it plans to primarily operate on domestic routes, he said.

The company has preliminary agreements with major customers among marketplaces and retailers in the FMCG and DIY segments, the spokesman said. Strong demand for trucking services is expected toward the end of the year, so there is interest from customers, he said.

Kamaz marketing director Ashot Arutyunyan announced at the International Moscow Automotive Forum at the end of August that the truck maker was the principal investor in National Carrier. He did not comment on the new company's shareholder structure, but said it is a Kamaz startup.
