The vessel showcases the impeccable British craftsmanship for which Princess is renowned, with a vast teak deck, gleaming stainless-steel rails, and handmade furniture. The layout is geared toward alfresco living. In fact, the main deck is fitted with a large canopy that provides shade to two-thirds of the space. You can also opt for an extra awning to cover the remaining third. Similarly, the vast open salon has glazing that extends far back into the cockpit to ensure the forward dining area is sheltered from the wind but still nice and open.

“The concept of the Princess S80 focusses on an uncompromising main deck sociable living space close to the water with three distinct spaces, sunbathing, lounging and dining, usable simultaneously without conversions,” Andy Lawrence, director of design at Princess, said in a statement .

The cockpit and transom, meanwhile, help you make the most of the water. The transom is home to an electro-hydraulic bathing platform and a garage with space for a Williams SportJet 435 tender, while the cockpit is equipped with twin sun pads, lounge seating, and two coffee tables. From here, you’ll find a teak dining table with space for up to eight seafarers and a galley bar that is perfect for cocktails. (You can also add a convertible dining table or a pop-up TV.)

The lower deck features four en suite cabins decked out with soft, organic furnishings and natural timber accents. The owner’s stateroom spans the entire width of the vessel, naturally. This deck also includes crew accommodation for up to three. (You can choose to add a crew mess or extra bunks.)  

The S80 is no slouch on the seas, either. The yacht can be powered by MAN V-12 engines rated at either 1,900 or 2,000 hp that result in a top speed of 33 and 24 knots, respectively. You can also add a 1,900-gallon fuel tank to extend her cruising range.

For the Y8, the follow-up model to the first ever YYacht, our design and development team cooperated with Surge Projects. The Mallorcan design studio around Javier Jaudenes has a "knack" for a timelessly elegant design, but also has great experience in designing fast yachts. 

In contrast to the previous Y8, the new model has a wider stern, so that in combination with the mast set further back, Javier Jaudenes attests to the high speed potential of his design: "A lot of R&D results from earlier projects have gone into the Y8. It is an essence of our experience and will be fast, but at the same time very safe under any conditions. The new Y8 is a lot of fun. I would describe her as a good-mood yacht."

Of course, the new Y8 also offers the innovative standard YYachts are accustomed to - such as the transverse garage in the stern, the self-tacking jib, the separate crew access in the cockpit or the flat deckhouse, whose optimally placed windows prevent the yacht from heating up too much.

By the way, the interior volume of the yacht is 20 percent larger than that of her predecessors "Cool Breeze", "Makai" or "Vegas Baby" - this results in many different layout options. And by moving the engine room under the saloon floor, the yacht has a lower centre of gravity and thus a better balance, which results in additional speed.

• Easy handling

On this 25-metre yacht, all halyards, sheets and extensions run concealed to the steering columns - so the helmsman can operate the Y8 comfortably at all times and sail the yacht with a very small crew - "keep it simple".

The electronics of a YYacht are based on the CZone system, which is connected to a transponder and thus to our technicians. We can troubleshoot remotely - no matter where in the world you are.

Sustainable luxury

Our yachts are built in lightweight construction and equipped with numerous sustainable materials. A YYacht can set sail in light winds, producing far fewer emissions.

Flexible layout

Due to the modular construction, the layout can be adapted to the owner's wishes. We can install the master suite either in the stern or in the bow. The number of guest cabins is also variable - up to five are possible.

The main salon is a sumptuous area that includes a relaxing lounge plus an exclusive dining area. This space can be used as part of the salon or, by closing the doors, can enlarge the master cabin converting into a fully equipped seagoing office. For this reason, here there are lockers dedicated to galley utensils and cutlery on one side and to office materials and equipment on the other side The crew quarters are located aft and are separate from the rest of the boat. The crew have two entrances, one connected to the cockpit and one close to the salon.

There are numerous options for a layout of a Y8 below deck. With the available options the Y8 can flexibly adapt to your requirements, with the possibility to divide the front and rear living areas. With this division implemented, the crews’ cabins, the navigation station, and the galley of the yacht are then located in the stern. This is the ideal layout to maximize privacy and remains undisturbed by the crew. With two cockpit solutions, variable headroom, and an interior that can be fully adapted to the customer, Y8 is a sailing yacht which is as individual as its future owner. A large dinghy garage with a transversal storage of the tender is a feature nearly all YYachts share so far. With state-of-the-art technology, the yacht can be handled even by a couple or with very small crew. The 80 Sunreef Power’s immense flybridge offers enough breadth to house a spa pool, a wet bar and generous seating all around.

One of the most spectacular features on board the 80ft yacht is the master suite which can be set up in the bow section of the main deck. With a double bed facing the bow terrace, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, dressing and desk, the suite is bathed in sun from the skylight glazing. The same space can also be used to install a large lounge with ample seating and access to the foredeck.

The main saloon opens wide onto the aft cockpit to combine the electric power catamaran ’s dining space with the outdoor relaxation areas, where more seating is available along with a wet bar. The fully customizable saloon can also accommodate a large galley, depending on the layout selected and houses an elevated interior navigation station.

The immense volumes in the hulls of the luxury catamaran give plenty of room to tailor every unit’s layout to the most specific requirements. The crew quarters along with the galley and crew mess can be accessed directly from the aft cockpit for more privacy on board. 80 foot yacht: finding the perfect yacht in this category.

The 80 foot yacht range is an important line in the yachting industry as many consider this the start of the superyacht category. Boatinternational.com begins tracking superyacht sales and build data of yachts around the globe of vessels 24 meters in length (78-79 feet).

According to  Boat International’s  latest  global order book data , the 24-27 meter category is one of the fastest growing superyacht categories. At 200 yachts in this range, it represents the highest number of yachts in the 24-27 meter range under construction since 2009 with the exception of the 2019 year. 

While this data may still need time to normalize following COVID-related production disruptions in 2020, the multi-year trend remains the same: the 80-89 foot yacht market is robust and healthy.

If jumping up into this size range from smaller vessels, buyers will find that the complexity and costs increase quite a bit as the yacht gets larger. This applies to both the purchase of the yacht and operating the vessel. The size of the yacht not only will dictate some of the use cases and cabin layout of the vessel, but as the yacht gets bigger, owners will need to be aware that it may introduce additional considerations that are required with regards to where you do your cruising. Draft of the yacht can come into play with regards to the accessibility of various harbors, and not all docks can accommodate yachts over a certain size. 

While many yachts in this range are outfitted with crew quarters, it’s not unheard of for owners to operate a yacht of this size by themselves due to new technology and features. For instance, bow and stern thrusters plus wireless docking controllers can enable owners to run and dock the yacht themselves. Still, on extended trips, even owner/operators can opt for crew to assist with operation and regular upkeep work along the way. Of course, many owners of yachts in this size range opt for crew to handle the operations for all use cases.

Exploring the particular yacht types can be an important starting point for matching the best 80 foot yacht to you and your family’s needs. Express yachts (also referred to as express cruisers or sport cruisers) are yachts with a single deck above the hull paired with a living space below deck. 

The flybridge or sedan bridge yacht refers to a yacht that includes an additional space above the main deck. This additional level is sometimes also called a command bridge or an enclosed bridge. It typically contains a control station and often an additional entertaining space. 

INTERIOR LAYOUT

With yachts in the 80 foot range, the interior layout can vary widely depending on the model. Furthermore, a wide variety of options and amenities are available to suit your yachting lifestyle. A spacious salon with plentiful seating, dining and entertaining spaces is typical. Below deck, four or more cabins with an impressive master suite is to be expected. Additional crew quarters are common as well.

The finishes inside will often depend on the model and age of the yacht as well as previous owner tastes. If building a new yacht, the buyer will be able to tailor many of the finishes and interior selections around his or her exact tastes.

CONSIDERATIONS WHEN BUYING A 80 FOOT YACHT

If new to yachting, gaining solid experience and familiarity with yachts can be a crucial step in the process to buying a yacht. Many times this can be accomplished through chartering a yacht. Gaining familiarity through the use and operation of a yacht can be quite helpful in achieving clarity on needs and wants around a yacht purchase. What features and amenities did you notice are crucial to operation and life aboard the vessel? Do you anticipate needing a crew? Is a smaller, easier-to-operate yacht more important to you or do you prefer maximum luxury and a longer range? Experience aboard a yacht will help you answer such questions.

As always, the budget is a key parameter when narrowing down your yacht options. There is always a bigger and more expensive yacht, so attempt to identify a price range that you are comfortable with while also factoring in maintenance, upkeep and operating expenses. 

Leveraging a yacht broker or salesperson to identify an initial list of yacht options to consider is a great next step. When looking at pre-owned yachts, there will always be a trade-off between age and size that the buyer will need to navigate. While newer boats will typically have less maintenance and upkeep costs, a pre-owned vessel can mean getting into a larger boat. The advice of a yacht broker is crucial at this stage of the purchase process.

Designing a custom new yacht is also a potential option for yacht buyers. The owner can participate throughout the entire build process from the earliest design phases to the launch of the yacht. Moreover, a semi-custom approach is possible through yacht manufacturers that permit owners to modify a production model to build. Of course, choosing the proper option based on your needs is easier with an experienced yacht broker at your side. 

Resale value of the yacht – while perhaps not the most important consideration at the time of buying a yacht – is still something worth considering and discussing with your broker. The resale value of the yacht is mostly dictated by the quality of the build and finish, maintenance of the vessel during the years of operation, the age of the boat and the overall market conditions at the time of sale. 

If you plan to charter the yacht to help offset some of the operating costs, the cabin layout, number of staterooms and quality of crew are crucial factors in successfully chartering the vessel. If you plan to pursue this, it can be worth discussing this with your yacht broker or salesperson to ensure chartering can be appropriately factored into the buying process.

To conclude, with the complexity involved in purchasing an 80 foot yacht and the investment typically required, the process will often go as smooth as the yacht broker at your side. Ensure that your yacht broker has experience with the particular yacht type, size range and even model being considered. Not all yacht brokers are the same, and while many out there will claim expertise for any yacht category, ask the right questions to ensure they can properly advise with respect to the specifics of the potential transaction approaching.

Sunreef shows off gorgeous 80-foot solar electric luxury yacht ahead of US debut this month

Eco-responsible shipbuilder Sunreef Yachts had given the public its first glimpse of its new 80-foot solar electric yacht before it makes it US debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida later this month. The 80 Sunreef Power Eco is a fully-electric luxury catamaran that could very well be one of the most advanced solar electric yachts built to date.

Sunreef Yachts was established in 2002 in Gdansk, Poland where its shipyard and office still operates in addition to a presence in the the UAE. A year into its existence, the company was touting the launch of the world’s first 74-foot luxury oceangoing catamaran with a flybridge and has been innovating ever since.

Today over 140 Sunreef Yachts are sailing waters across the globe, and the shipbuilders clientele includes Tennis great Rafael Nadal , plus F1 champions Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg. As the company looks to delve further into electrification, its latest vessel – the 80 Sunreef Power Eco has already garnered a German Design Award 2023.

To be clear, I'm not a boater and not fond of being on water that much. In my younger days, I did have a couple boats and was on the Mississippi quite a lot as well as a larger lake in NW IL. The thing that I recall not so fondly was the smells and fuels, putting fuel in them, the spills in the water, the nasty exhaust fumes and film in/on the water, etc. That's always bothered me and I feel that the boating industry may be one of the dirtiest as for pollution along with motorcycles. The fact that boats spend so much time baking in the sun makes them totally great for solar.

So I'm happy and grateful for the fact that boats and motorcycles seem to be moving well into the EV power and using renewable energy as well. It gives me hope for the future where people can still enjoy recreational activities while greatly reducing emissions.

In addition to the new images of 80 Sunreef Power Eco above, we’ve learned that its makers are already declaring the solar yacht “world’s most advanced electric luxury catamaran,” due in large part to is emission-free in-house technology.

The 80-foot vessel is propelled by two 360 kW motors, powered by a massive 990 kWh battery bank. Sunreef says these custom-engineered banks offer an energy density less than 5.2 kg per kWh, nearly 30% lighter than the typical systems most commonly used in the yachting world today.

What may be most impressive about this electric yacht is Sunreef’s 36 kWp composite-integrated solar panels, which have been seamless placed along the catamaran’s hulls, bimini roof, and superstructure. Sunreef describes the technology as a “solar skin” around the yacht.

The interior features 4 luxury cabins and customizable layout to comfortably sleep eight guests. unfortunately, that’s all Sunreef is sharing about the 80 Power Eco at the moment, but the public can learn more at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , taking place October 25-29. The price of a Fountaine Pajot sailing catamaran varies according to the size of the model chosen and your sailing project. Innovative, high-tech composite materials constitute most of the structure of our sailing catamarans: hulls, flybridge, decks, bulkheads and more. Fountaine Pajot has perfected a resin injection and infusion technique, an advanced technology that gives our boats all their robustness. Thanks to this expertise, we can make our catamarans considerably lighter while maintaining consistent quality . Injection also makes it possible to meet the most stringent environmental requirements, in line with the commitments of the Fountaine Pajot Group.

Sailing catamarans from 40 to 50 feet are built at the Aigrefeuille headquarters, a few kilometres from La Rochelle. Catamaran yachts from 51 to 80 feet are built in La Rochelle, France, where they benefit from a slipway.

It is essential to define your sailing program: define the size of the crew on board, the level of sailing knowledge, the sailing project and the target sailing area. Every project is different. The ergonomics of Fountaine Pajot catamarans have been designed to facilitate manoeuvring at the helm, enabling a small crew (2 persons) to manoeuvre the boat easily, both in port and at sea. The unique design of the helm station allows good communication between the aft cockpit and the Fly relaxation areas. Of course, your level of navigation will determine your ability to sail with two or more persons!

Our electric catamarans now feature a large surface area of solar panels, up to 2000 WC, perfectly integrated into the design of the coachroof. Combined with equipment such as wind turbines or hydro-generators, they compensate for the energy consumption generated by on-board use during cruising. The Fountaine Pajot range of electric catamarans is expanding, and now includes 3 Smart Electric models. The Astréa 42, Elba 45 and Aura 51 are now available in this version.

With the help of over 70 engineers, Fountaine Pajot has developed an in-house solution, 100% adapted to the use of its catamarans equipped with hybrid electric motors . All on-board production and energy expenditure flows are managed from a single console designed by our teams to offer a simple, designer user experience.
