FORMER Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone treated himself to his old mate Flavio Briatore's yacht.

The stunning 63-metre Force Blue became available for auction last year, after Briatore was convicted of not paying the VAT.

Ecclestone is now the proud owner of Force Blue

And Ecclestone , 91, couldn't resist grabbing himself a bargain, picking up the yacht for a snip at £6.6m - despite his mate having originally paid £68.2m for it.

Briatore, 72, who previously owned QPR alongside Ecclestone - was found to have not paid around £3m in VAT on the boat between 2006 and 2010 - as well as around £700,000 in fuel duties.

The yacht, the 78th biggest on the planet, initially became available for charter in the Mediterranean, before the court decided to sell up at auction.

And according to Italian reports , Ecclestone snapped it up for just £6.6m - despite it being valued these days at around £17.5m.

Able to house 12 guests, Force Blue possesses luxury features including a spa, gym and Jacuzzi to relax in - as well as a cinema and disco room if Bernie fancies a boogie.

Perhaps Bernie will be able to share the yacht with his kids, having become a father again at 89 with wife Fabiana..

And if he has his way, there could be more offspring yet .

He told SunSport last year: "Fabiana said she wanted a family, and I told her, ‘That’s no problem for me. Half a dozen kids is great’."

On being a father again, he added: "I am really happy. When I had the girls in the first place, obviously I was much younger.

How F1’s Bernie Ecclestone Flipped His Massive $30 Million Superyacht

Image: DMARGE

Luxury superyacht Force Blue — once owned by American tycoon Roy Speer and later by Italian millionaire Flavio Briatore — ended up in the hands of former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, who flipped it for an impressive profit.

From Jeff Bezos to Vladimir Putin , everyone who’s anyone has a fancy superyacht. Now, former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone hasn’t just joined that privileged club, but he’s shown everyone else how to make a quick buck in the process.

As reported by Auto Evolution , Force Blue entered the world more than two decades ago in 2002. It spent its initial seven years under Roy Speer’s ownership. However, the journey took an exciting turn when Flavio Briatore acquired the Royal Denship yacht. Like many superyacht owners, Briatore gave it a makeover, infusing it with Italian style.

WATCH: Check out Jeff Bezos’ $700m superyacht…

A Decade of Waiting

Unfortunately for Briatore, his time with Force Blue was short-lived: In 2010, Italian authorities seized the yacht due to allegations of unpaid taxes while it was docked in the famous La Spezia on the Italian Riviera. While legal battles between Briatore and the authorities raged on, Force Blue waited in limbo.

Force Blue languished without a rightful owner for an entire decade as legal disputes rolled on. Then, in 2021, the yacht suddenly went up for auction. The winning bidder? Bernie Ecclestone, former Chief Exec of Formula One and a close friend of Briatore.

Ecclestone secured the yacht for an absolute steal: With a starting bid of just €7 million (~$12 million AUD), this was less than half of its estimated value and a fraction of what Briatore had reportedly paid for it back in 2009, which was just under $87 million USD (~$115 million AUD).

Ecclestone’s Makeover Magic

Ecclestone wasted no time after acquiring Force Blue : He embarked on a comprehensive refit that transformed the old expedition yacht into a modern, high-end vessel.

The refit boasts a beach club, a state-of-the-art spa — considered one of the largest spa facilities on the water — a private cinema and, perhaps most impressively, a DJ booth with a massive disco-lighting rig that’s capable of accommodating up to 60 seated guests or over 300 for quay events.

Force Blue yacht interior.

Weighing in at over 1,300 tons, Force Blue provides lavish accommodation for 12 guests and a sizable crew of 19. The lower deck featured five guest cabins, while the upper deck was dedicated to the full-beam master suite.

Luxury Redefined

It’s safe to say that with its brand-new full-height windows offering stunning sea views, Force Blue has become a superyacht that inspires envy amongst the rich elites who seem to purchase these vessels like it’s going out of fashion. No doubt it now requires the kind of extensive, cutting-edge security that we’ve come to see across the sector too.

Most impressively, however, is its massively increased worth after the refit, especially when you take into account the bargain bucket price that Eccelstone snapped it up for.

While experts are being cagey about an updated sale price, seemingly not wanting to let a number slip before Eccelstone decides he’s ready to sell and — given his undeniable business nouse — figures out his own magic number, suffice to say he should be able to more than triple his €7 million investment…

While most superyacht owners are hardly strapped for cash, it’s still quite the flex to make such an impressive return on such a massive and seemingly superfluous investment… it seems that Bernie’s still got it.

Former Formula 1 patron Bernie Ecclestone bought Flavio Briatore’s yacht

The story involved two of the most famous names in Formula 1 .

Bernie Ecclestone, for decades at the head of the direction of this sport, seems to have recently bought the Force Blue mega yacht at the auction, previously owned by the famous businessman and former Formula 1 team manager Flavio Briatore.

The background

The story originated in May 2010 when the Italian finance police seized the yacht, owned by Briatore since 2002, while it was in the waters of the Italian city of La Spezia. Onboard, in addition to the crew, were also the showgirl Elisabetta Gregoraci, today the entrepreneur’s ex-wife, and her son Nathan Falco.

The accusation made by the investigators was clear right away. The entrepreneur was accused of having simulated a commercial activity of chartering his luxurious boat in the period 2006 – 2010. This would have allowed him to use the Force Blue, formally owned by the company Autumn Sailing Limited, for recreational use in Italian territorial waters, avoiding him to pay the due import VAT, equal to approximately 3.5 million euros.

Furthermore, again according to the prosecution, the yacht’s fuel was indicated as exempt from excise duties while it had to be burdened by ordinary taxes.

The first instance trial against Flavio Briatore ended in 2015, with a suspended sentence of 1 year and 11 months in prison for tax crimes related to the charter of the Force Blue yacht.

After various judicial vicissitudes that saw Briatore first convicted and then partially acquitted by misdemeanor prescription, the current situation sees a new trial that has reached the last level of judgment.

Why the auction of the yacht?

It was auctioned on January 27, 2021, at one-third of the market value. This is the fate to which the judges of the court of Genoa condemned the yacht Force Blue. The Flavio Briatore luxurious floating villa was seized in 2010 for the alleged evasion of 3.6 million VAT on imports.

The yacht was awarded to the highest bidder on an auction basis of 7 million euros, which is less than half of the 20 million estimated value at the time of the seizure. On the evaluation weighted the serious degradation conditions in which the Force Blue finds itself after a decade of forced inactivity, interrupted only occasionally for rental in the summer season.

This last solution was necessary to contain management costs which, however, did not avoid the accumulation of debts by the State, which therefore opted to sell the yacht at the preventive auction without waiting for the end of the Briatore’s process.

The latter had tried to block, through his lawyers, the sale by presenting four instances which, however, were vain.

What kind of boat are we talking about?

Force Blue is a superyacht over 63 meters long, almost 12 meters wide, and with a gross tonnage of over 1,325 tons. It was built and launched in 2002 by the Royal Denship, a Danish construction house that is no longer in business.

It is propelled by two 2000 horsepower engines and reaches a top speed of 17 knots. The cruising one stops at 14.

Comfort is ensured by the presence of an onboard crew that can reach up to 17 people.

Ecclestone’s entry onto the scene.

It was enough for the British tycoon to offer € 490,000 more than the seven million auction base to get the boat.

To contend for the boat through an offer were in 4.

In addition to the 90-year-old Bernard Ecclestone, the other competitors were all companies: Lethora Holdings Ltd based in the Virgin Islands , Sulfur Ltd based in the Bahamas , and Locamar Sa based in Luxembourg.

All offers in a sealed envelope were delivered to the notary Ugo Bechini who opened each one on the morning of January 27th, at the Hotel Bristol, a very central Genoese hotel.

Future developments

Is it all finally over? Absolutely not! In fact, as we said earlier, the process that sees the ownership of Force Blue as a dispute is not concluded.

Paradoxically, with a reversal of the sentence, Flavio Briatore could still return to being his legitimate owner, canceling the auction with which Ecclestone won the yacht.

We just have to wait until the next 9 of June to know the final sentence.

Flavio Briatore appeals tax fraud conviction over use of yacht Force Blue

Flavio Briatore, the Italian tycoon and former boss of the Benetton and Renault F1 racing teams, is appealing a recent sentence to 23 months in prison for tax evasion.

The sentence, which was handed down by the Italian courts, relates to the entrepreneur’s use of superyacht Force Blue , bought by Briatore for just under £70m in 2009 from Roy Speer, the American founder of Home Shopping Network.

The Italian Financial Police boarded and sequestrated Force Blue back in 2010 just over five years ago in May 2010 in La Spezia, near Genoa on the Italian Riviera. The reason for the action and subsequent charge was the accusation that Briatore had not paid the appropriate amount of taxes on the fuel used by the yacht.

The action eventually resulted in a court case and Briatore’s conviction for tax evasion of €3.5 million. Briatore denied the charges and his lawyers have launched an immediate appeal against his sentence.

He disputed the authority’s charge that Force Blue was entirely for his personal use and that of his friends and family. The prosecution in turn pointed out that the yacht was registered to a charter company in a tax haven and that the company enjoyed a number of tax breaks that would not have been eligible for a single owner and personal use. They also pointed out that everything on the boat from the bed linen to the crockery had the initials FB on them. The defence pointed out that these were the initials of the yacht and that it is known that all big charter boats contents and furnishings bear the logo or initials of a boat.

In a high profile career, Briatore has often courted controversy and his personal life has occasionally played out in the glare of publicity. He was banned for life – later successfully overturned on appeal – by the F1 authorities following accusations that he had deliberately orchestrated a crash at the 2008 Singapore grand prix.

The appeal continues.

Flavio Briatore definitively acquitted of tax fraud

Flavio-Briatore-min

His yacht had already been seized and sold at auction by the Italian state.

Twelve years of waiting and six trials. On 26 January, Flavio Briatore was definitively acquitted after a marathon trial for tax fraud.  Now cleared, the Monegasque resident and former Renault Formula One team boss obtained from the judges the annulment of the confiscation of his 63-metre yacht: Force Blue.

The problem is, the yacht in question, worth an estimated 20 million euros, had been seized in 2010 by the Italian police and sold at auction for three times less to Briatore’s friend Bernie Ecclestone, the former boss of the Formula One group. This raises the question of recouping the value of the yacht.  “The new owner of the yacht and Briatore are entitled to demand suitable compensation,” Briatore’s lawyer Massimo Pellicciotta told the Ansa news agency.

The police confiscated the yacht twelve years ago, off the Italian coast. Ownership of Force Blue was at the heart of the affair, with a British Isles company allegedly leasing it to Briatore, who was since accused of improperly evading more than €3.6 million in import VAT and more than €800,000 in fuel taxes between 2006 and 2010.

At the same time, the Genoa Court of Appeal judges also overturned the businessman’s 18-month prison sentence, pronounced in 2018.

YACHTS AND TAX EVASION. 4-YEAR PRISON TERM ASKED FOR FLAVIO BRIATORE

Minimal Logo

During the appeal process against the Italian tycoon Flavio Briatore charged with suspected tax evasion, Prosecutor General Giuseppa Geremia asked for a 4-year prison term for the businessman. It’s undoubtedly a much heavier sentence  than the one-year-and-eleven-month suspended sentence inflicted by the judge at the first trial.

Flavio Briatore evasione fiscale yacht

Flavio Briatore, one among the lead characters of both business community and Italian “ Vita Smeralda “, is charged for tax fraud over the rental of luxury yacht “Force Blue” (formerly Big Roi ), a 63-metre explorer launched by Royal Denship in 2002 and rebaptised by the Italian manager in 2006 ( it is no coincidence that the initials of the boat are the same than his name: FB).

The yacht was seized by financial police in May 2010 while Briatore’s wife Elisabetta Gregoraci and their infant were on board. Promptly reported by all the Italian newspapers and media of the time, the police operation was carried out off the Ligurian city of La Spezia and immediately caused great controversy.

il Pg Giuseppa Geremia Flavio Briatore evasione fiscale yacht

“I used the yacht only for rental purposes. I’m not a tax evader, I thought everything was ok. If I had been required to pay taxes by the Italian financial police, I would have done it with no problems “, Briatore said to preliminary hearing judge Nadia Magrini.

The businessman and former F1 team manager of Cuneo is not the only person involved in the affair. After Prosecutor General Geremia and public prosecutors Patrizia Petruzziello and Walter Cotugno’s charges, further imprisonment requests have been filed for both the captain of the yacht and the administrators of Autumn Sailing Ltd , the owner’s company. More specifically: three years and eight months for Ferdinando Tarquini , the captain of Force Blue yacht, who had received the same sentence than Briatore after the first trial; two years and six months for Dominique Warluzel (one-year-and-eleven-month suspended sentence had already been decided during the first trial) and two years for Maria Pia De Fusco, already sentenced to pay a fine of seven million euros.

Force Blue Flavio Briatore evasione fiscale yacht

The reason for the action and subsequent charge was the accusation that Briatore used the yacht for recreational, instead of commercial, purposes in Italy’s territorial waters between 2006 and 2010. According to prosecutors, Briatore wouldn’t have paid the appropriate amount of taxes on the fuel used by the yacht. As for charter activities, in fact, fuel benefits from a considerable excise duty reduction which makes it 50% less expensive than usual. Furthermore, Briatore would have registered the yacht to a charter company in a tax haven and the company would have enjoyed a number of tax breaks that would not have been eligible for a single owner and personal use.

Only no-paid VAT indeed requires a payment of 3.6 million euros .

Prosecutors have also asked the court to charge Briatore with transnational crimes since he could have worked with foreign partners as well as the requisition of the yacht . The trial will continue next May 30th.

Flavio Briatore was born in Verzuolo near Cuneo, Italy, to a family of elementary school teachers. After a high school diploma in surveying, he started to work as a RAS insurance agent. In 1974 he moved to Cuneo where he worked as an Executive for CONAFI, a prominent subsidiary of the Italian Stock Exchange. At the same time he took up a real estate project in Sardinia: ‘Isola Rossa’ a holiday resort complex which he sold a year later to an entrepreneur from Cuneo. In 1975 Briatore is partner founder of Cuneo Leasing, which became the biggest leasing Company in Italy (later acquired by the De Benedetti Group). In 1977 Briatore is appointed Managing Director of paints/coatings leader Paramatti, becoming the youngest MD of an Italian Company not familyowned and on the Stock Exchange. In 1979 Briatore moved to Milan, where he worked in financial group Finanziaria Generale Italia. In the Milan years Briatore also met entrepreneur Luciano Benetton, who would later play a key role in Briatore’s career. In the mid 80s Briatore moved to the US, where he opened Benetton stores, in the Virgin Islands and, working closely with Luciano Benetton, he contributed actively to the brand’s expansion in the US markets. Briatore attended his first-ever Formula One race at the Australian Grand Prix, in 1988. A year later, Luciano Benetton appointed him Commercial Director of his Formula One team, Benetton Formula (formerly Toleman), based in England. Shortly after, Briatore was promoted to managing director and set about turning Benetton Formula into a competitive team. He brought into Formula One a unique and innovative management style: he believed that Formula One was not only a sport but also and foremost, a spectacle and a business, hence he concentrated on marketing and communication as the key elements to attract and secure wealthy sponsors and prestigious partners to the Team. He fired engineer John Barnard and with his successor, Tom Walkinshaw, he started to re-structure the team. In 1991, with a quick and visionary move, Briatore snatched young driver Michael Schumacher from the Jordan team and built up the team around the talented German. In 1994, Schumacher won the driver's Championship and then Briatore was able to forge a strategic alliance with Renault, which gave Benetton Formula the extra competitiveness of a very powerful engine for the following season. In fact, in 1995 the Team reached double success, with Schumacher claiming the World Drivers' Championship and Benetton Formula winning the World Constructors’ Championship. In 1993 Briatore also created FB Management, a scouting and managing agency for motorsport young drivers, which over the years included talented drivers like Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli, Robert Kubica and Max Webber. World-champion Fernando Alonso, whom Briatore discovered and secured to his agency in 1999, was just 18 when he was enrolled in FB management. At the end of 1994, Briatore acquired the French team Ligier, restructured it completely and two years later, the team drove to victory at the Monte Carlo GP with Panis. In 1997 Briatore sold Ligier to Alan Prost who renamed it Prost Grand Prix (the team folded in 2002). In 1996 Briatore bought also the Minardi Team and sold it a year later to Gabriele Rumi. In the same year, Michael Schumacher left Benetton Formula for Ferrari. In 1997 Briatore decided to leave the team in agreement with the Benetton family, sold his shares to them in order to finance and lead his new F1 project: SUPERTEC, a 200-workforce company which became the leading supplier of engines to Formula One Teams. From 1998 to 2000, Supertec supplied engines to four teams in the paddock: Benetton, Williams, British American Racing and Arrows. In the mid 90s Briatore started to diversify his interests. In 1995 he acquired children shoe company Kickers, reselling it shortly after. Then in 1998 he acquired Pierrel, a small Italian pharmaceutical company that had been bought by a US group. With a dynamic and innovative business plan led by Briatore and entrepreneur Canio Mazzaro, Pierrel was restructured and in 2006 it was floated successfully on the Italian Stock market. In 1998 Briatore opened a nightclub in Costa Smeralda, Billionaire, soon hailed as the favourite nightspot of the International Jet Set. In few years,  Billionaire became a renowned International brand, synonymous with glamour and quality entertainment. Today  MAJESTAS, ex Billionairelife, is  a global luxury services company  which includes night-clubs, restaurants, beach clubs, hotels and resorts. In 2000, Briatore orchestrated the purchase of the Benetton Team by Renault and the French Company appointed Briatore as Renault F1 Team Managing Director. Two years later he also became Managing Director of Renault Sport. Briatore restructured the Team, which counted over 1,100 people between France and UK factories, with his trademark management style of moderate budgets, optimization of internal human resources, aggressive marketing and communication strategy. In spite of relying on the 5th budget amongst the Teams in F1, Renault F1 progressed rapidly and in 2005 the team achieved a double success: Alonso won the World Driver's title and the team snatched the World Constructors' title. The same impressive result was repeated in 2006, with Renault F1 fetching both Championships' titles. In 2005 Briatore conceived and created the GP2 Series, a young drivers Championship to compete next to Formula One, a sort of training ground and a showcase for talented drivers and engineers. In a short time, GP2 became the most popular and reputable series after Formula One. The series discovered and brought into Formula One excellent drivers amongst whom future F1 world champions Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. In 2010, Briatore sold the very successful GP2 series to CVC, the Group who had already bought Formula One. In 2006 Briatore acquired with Bernie Ecclestone the English soccer team Queens Park Rangers. With a four-year plan, QPR was brought up from Champions League to Premiere league. In 2011, after the first 3 matches in Premier League, Briatore and Ecclestone sold QPR to Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandez. In July 2008 the Formula One Teams gathered to form FOTA. Briatore took up the role of Commercial Director of FOTA (appointed by President Luca di Montezemolo) and led discussions with the FIA on the future of Formula 1. FOTA asked for costs reductions in view of the economic world crisis and for the introduction of new regulations aimed at delivering a more spectacular show and make the sport more exciting. The FIA presented its own plan for the 2010 Championship and the two parties came to a clash. Following a meeting organized by Briatore at Renault F1 headquarters on June 18 2009, the eight FOTA teams rejected FIA's proposals for the Championship 2010 and decided to break away and launch their own F1 Championship. At the very end, the parts came to an agreement and at the FIA World Council of June 29th, Max Mosley announced his resignation as FIA President and stated that the FIA would not implement any changes for 2010. Not surprisingly, a month later, FIA launched an investigation concerning one of the races of the previous year, the Singapore GP 2008. FIA accused Briatore, as Renault F1 Team Principal, to have instigated driver Nelson Piquet Jr to stage an accident during the race to favour team mate Fernando Alonso's victory. On September 21st  2009, the FIA World Motor Sport Council confirmed Alonso's and Renault's victory but radiated Flavio Briatore from Formula One and conditionally disqualified the Renault Team. Briatore sued the FIA in the French Court to clear his name and he won. In fact, on January 5th 2010 the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris annulled Briatore's radiation, declaring illegal FIA's procedure. The Tribunal also ordered FIA the payment of 15,000 euros in damages to Briatore, stating also that he could return to Formula One starting from the 2013 Championship season. From 2011 onwards Briatore concentrated his interests and activities on the luxury services company MAJESTAS. He forged a partnership with the Percassi group for the development of Billionaire Couture, the menswear luxury line he had launched in 2005. The successful nichemarket brand caught the eye of Philipp Plein who in 2016 bought a majority stake from Briatore and Percassi and launched a global development of the line. In 2012 Briatore opened the prestigious Cipriani Monte Carlo and in 2013 he completed an ambitious project, Billionaire Resort, a luxury apartment complex in Malindi, on the Kenyan Coast. Modern and eco-friendly, the stunning resort lies next to the charming Relais and Thalaspa Lion in the Sun, once Briatore’s private residence.  In April 2013, Briatore took MAJESTAS to a new direction by selling the majority of the divisions "leisure and entertainment" to the prestigious investment fund based in Singapore, Bay Capital with the ongoing objective to strengthen the brands, acquire new ones and expand in Asia and the rest of the world. In the following years the Group has grown, developing the existing portfolio and launching new brands: 2014 saw the opening of Twiga Monte Carlo, followed in 2016 by Sumosan Twiga  In London . In the same year the brand Billionaire was brought to the world’s capital of entertainment : Dubai.  The restaurant and its nightclub quickly became the favourite hotspot of international celebs such Flyod Mayweather, Kim Kardashian, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jude Law, amongst others and it  constantly  hosted  star-studded events with A-list artists and DJs. In 2017 Briatore, in partnership with LVHM, added to the Billionaire Life portfolio the historical COVA MONTENAPOLEONE, opening the famous ‘pasticceria’ in Monte Carlo. Always attentive to market changes and social evolution,  Briatore conceived a new brand, CRAZY PIZZA , which was launched in 2019 with strategic outposts in Porto Cervo and London Marylebone. With a fresh and innovative concept, the ambitious plans for Crazy Pizza  and its development are underway, starting with a choice of vibrant select locations for the brand, such as Monaco’s beautiful harbor where CRAZY PIZZA Monte Carlo has opened in July 2020. The year 2020 saw a turning point for Billionaire. The brand pioneered a new format, ’The Billionaire Experience’ ,  a theatrical production of exceptional performances on stage combined with an outstanding culinary experience. Once again, Dubai was chosen for the worldwide  premiere of the new format.  Billionaire Dubai opened in November, quickly followed in December by Billionaire Riyadh, thus paving the way to an ambitious, select development of the brand in prestigious location all over the world.  2021 paves the way for a targeted expansion of MAJESTAS' brands, which in early 2022 sees the opening of a second Cova Monte Carlo in the Principality, on Avenue Princesse Grace. Important and strategic openings for Crazy Pizza follow: in Italy, in Rome and Milan and in Saudi Arabia, in Riyadh and Doha. In autumn 2022 Rome will also host the new Twiga, on the roof top of the Hotel Bernini. 2022 will also see the openings of Billionaire Mykonos in August, Twiga Doha, and the launch of a new luxury catering service on the French Riviera called Riviera Blue, in collaboration with Riccardo Giraudi. Billionaire Dubai’s enormous appeal and success has led to a new ambitious project  : Merex, a company owned by Brookfield Asset Management, chose the brand to create an exclusive Beach Club as the main feature of their La Mer Project. The seaside Dubai area will become a luxury Marina with Billionaire as the prestigious flagship of the project, which will be ready at the end of 2023. MAJESTAS reaffirms its position as the leading curator of luxury dining, entertainment experiences and indulgent living, having established its position in the elite entertainment and hospitality world with destinations across Europe, UK, Middle East and Africa. Briatore has starred on Italian Television, in the role of the Boss in the famous show THE APPRENTICE. The series had two editions, in 2012 and 2014. He is also the author of SULLA RICCHEZZA, a current affair book co-written with Carmelo Abbate in 2017, a general essay on the world of business and his entrepreneurial vision of today’s Italy. 2022 marks Flavio Briatore’s return in Formula One, as a long serving Ambassador for FOA, with the specific task of building relationships with promoters and partners and develop some commercial and entertainment aspects of the sport.

Seguono importanti e strategiche aperture per  Crazy Pizza : In Italia, a Roma e a Milano e in Arabia Saudita, a Riyadh e a Doha.

Flavio Briatore - Formula 1

Flavio Briatore  entered Formula One in 1989. He did not have a knowledge of the sport but the incredible career and the mark he left in Formula One sport stem from a strong business background and his unconventional managerial approach to the sport.  His hard-work ethic combined with a vibrant social life brought glamour and a new way of communicating in Formula One, for which he is recognized as being one of F1’s most successful team managers . Briatore headed two Teams, Benetton and Renault, steering them to seven world championship titles . He also hired and brought to become world champions two of Formula One’s biggest stars, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso Briatore attended his first-ever Formula One race at the Australian Grand Prix, in 1988.
