Trending articles, what’s new this year at the fort lauderdale international boat show.

Fort Lauderdale has been dubbed the Yachting Capital of the World. With more than 100,000 visitors from more than 50 countries flocking to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) last year, it has certainly earned its reputation. This year’s festival takes place from Oct. 25 to 29 at seven different venues. While the show is going on its 64th year, it stays fresh with new experiences while staying true to bringing together every yachty under the sun.

Stunning Venues

The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center has long been the host site of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and with a recent $1 billion renovation, it has even more to offer. During the five-day show, visitors will be able to wander through an extra 350,000 square feet of exhibition space, boasting technological upgrades, unparalleled waterfront views, and modernized decor fit for one of the biggest events of the year in Greater Fort Lauderdale. One of the biggest draws to the convention center will be the Nautical Ventures' AquaZone, an engaging exhibition showcasing water sports and marine products — perfect for yacht owners wanting to add more fun to their time on the water. The experience will run an hour after the show opens and an hour before the show closes for the day.

Another exciting addition to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the use of the Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina’s brand-new southern property for the Superyacht Village. The storied hotel has long been the heartbeat of the yachting community, and under new ownership, the property is expanding and is ready to host some of the world’s top yachts. Consider the village to be the best of the best, where yacht builders are ready in person to greet boaters ready to map out the blueprints to their next vessel or find their next favorite exotic brand. Guests can also indulge in a drink at the SYV bar, taking in the marina views.

These two venues, however, are just two of seven locations where the boat show will be spread to provide the optimum experience. There will also be events and activations at the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, Hall Of Fame Marina, Las Olas Marina, 17th Street Yacht Basin, and the Pier 66 Marina.

Impressive Tech

FLIBS Boat Show

Over six decades old, the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show has been anything but stale. Boat owners and enthusiasts attend the show to see the greatest in boating technology. One thousand brands participate in exhibitions, putting front and center the hottest technology and cutting-edge design on the market today. That includes everything from new-age water toys to superyachts filled with the latest gadgets.

Attendees are also able to learn about what’s new on the horizon through a number of seminars. This year, FLIBS is partnering with industry pros like the Marine Research Hubs, FWC Officers, and the Ocean Rescue Alliance to share their insights on coral reef restoration, tricks of the trade in lobster hunting, mental health for superyacht staff, and kids’ fishing clinics. The seminars all align with FLIBS’ mission to be a zero-waste and net-zero carbon event by 2030.

VIP Experiences

Top-tier ticket holders are given early entry to the boat show, free shuttle and Water Taxi service, and entry to the VIP Classic Cars Evening. Need to kick your feet up? VIP also includes access to the Windward VIP Club, with a premium open bar, chef-curated dishes, luxury activations, and private bathrooms.

But not only Windward VIP will have a luxe experience at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. The five-day schedule features well-heeled events such as the Fort Lauderdale Concours. The soiree brings together marine and roadster enthusiasts with an array of classic and iconic cars, fine art, fashion, live music, and passed bites as the sun lowers into the Intracoastal.

No show attendees will go hungry, either. Corporate Executive Chef Vagn Nielson is heading Proof of the Pudding to serve up international dishes for every taste bud, from woodfired picanha and hamburgers to fresh stone crabs, calamari, and oysters. For a drink with some kick, order a cocktail or brew from the Goslings’ Dark ‘N Stormy Island Bar, the Anheuser-Busch Island Beer Garden, and Stella Artois Barge.

Ease of Travel

Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi

With so many experiences and events to partake in, five days might not seem like enough. Luckily, getting around all seven locations of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is a breeze. More than 3,000 parking spots will be available at the Broward County Convention Center, serving as the event’s transportation hub.

Free shuttle service will be available for guests, with routes to and from the convention center to Bahia Mar, the Superyacht Village to Bahia Mar, and Fort Lauderdale Brightline station to the Riverside Hotel .

Attendees can also hop from one marina to the next aboard the Water Taxi, with three routes traveling to and from the Riverside Hotel to Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach a DoubleTree by Hilton , to and from Broward County Convention Center to SuperYacht Village to Bahia Mar, and to and from the Gallery ONEDoubleTree Hotel to Las Olas Marina to Bahia Mar.

FORT LAUDERDALE — For marine industry aficionados, Cannes was festive and Monaco was super. But now, it’s Fort Lauderdale’s turn to be center stage as host to the world’s biggest in-water boat show.

From a windswept roof atop the city’s Las Olas parking garage along the Intracoastal Waterway, city and Broward County politicians and promoters ushered in the five-day 64th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on Wednesday with a mutual sense that the city’s burgeoning marine industry will be delivering another round of good fortune.

“We’re going to put 100,000 people through the gates,” said Phil Purcell, president and CEO of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the show’s owner. “I don’t know if we’re going to do $1.8 billion of economic impact to the state but I think darn close. If you go back to (2019) we did a little over $900 million in direct sales. So we’ve got a lot to look forward to over the next five days.”

Traffic clogged the streets on the barrier island between Las Olas Boulevard and the 17th Street Causeway bridge. But it didn’t matter to local business owners as shops and restaurants filled up, sidewalks were packed with visitors, and boat show workers and visitors headed for seven venues on both sides of the Intracoastal from the Las Olas Marina to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, Bahia Mar Yacht Center and Pier Sixty-Six on the east bank, to the Broward County Convention Center and 17th Street Yacht Basin on the waterway’s west bank.

“The economic impact, as Phil said, over $1.8 billion … it’s going to be another game changer for the city,” said Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, who hosted a ceremony to formally open the show.

Collaborative effort

Trantalis, who has been locked in a dispute with county leaders over his preference for a tunnel, and not a bridge, to be built over the city’s New River to accommodate growing rail traffic, invited County Mayor Lamar Fisher to cut the ceremonial blue ribbon.

“The marine industry is the life blood of Fort Lauderdale,” said Trantalis, who credited the county as a key contributor to the industry’s sustained growth. “It helps drive the economy and continues to thrive year after year as the marine industry as well as the City of Fort Lauderdale and the county continue to reinvest in this industry.”

Politicians including the Dean Trantalis, the mayor of Ft. Lauderdale, and Lamar Fisher, the Mayor of Broward County cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the 64th edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) on Wednesday, October 25 2023. The five day show runs through Sunday October 29th. (Mike Stocker/South Florida Sun Sentinel

“It sounds like a cherry on top of the sundae,” Stacy Ritter, CEO and president of Visit Lauderdale, the county’s tourism promotion agency, said of the boat show. “We’re doing well economically, knock on wood. Broward County, especially as it relates to tourism, has really blown the doors off. Last year was a record.

“But when you have the boat show, it’s not just the tourist development tax collection. It’s the sales tax collection. It’s the jobs,” she said. “It’s the restaurants that are full and they keep their people employed. That’s really the lingering effect of the boat show. It’s the start of the season for us and will just continue for us until it gets a little slower later in 2024. It’s an amazing economic bump.”

As the public officials spoke ahead of the show’s noontime opening, brokers, vendors and bankers were already patrolling the show’s venues meeting with clients, engaging in seminars, and putting the finishing touches on their exhibits for the five-day show, which runs through Sunday.

“The industry is still pretty robust from our standpoint,” said Lisa Verbit, a director and national sales executive for the global wealth and investment marine division of Bank of America. “There are still people out there who want to buy yachts.”

Based in Fort Lauderdale, Verbit and a colleague tour shows worldwide to meet with high-end clients and help them obtain financing for their next yacht purchase.

“We are going to have another historical best year in our portfolio,” she said. “We offer anything from purchase money loans for new and pre-owned yachts to construction financing”

The largest yacht loan she and her partner have done was about $260 to $270 million. Back in 1989, when she started in the yacht finance business, typical loans ranged up to $150,000.

“Fort Lauderdale attracts clients from all over the U.S. and even the world,” Verbit said. “Monaco is another big one. The Palm Beach show is very popular. Those are the three shows we focus on.”

Other industry figures agreed that they expect another strong demonstration of of interest among would-be buyers who continue to view boating as a leading form of recreation that grew during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Some are seeing a demographic shift toward younger buyers entering the yachting market.

40th year for towing firm

While the public’s focus will be on new vessels and toys associated with marine recreation, the company that most boaters prefer not to call is marking its 40th year rescuing stranded mariners whose craft have run out of gas or broken down.

Founded in 1983, New York-based Sea Tow is at the show to remind stranded boaters that help is within reach through a service that mirrors roadside auto services such as AAA.

“No one ever plans or wants to be towed on the water,” said CEO Kristen Frohnhoefer, whose father founded the firm in Long Island, N.Y.  “Nobody wants to hear from us.”

“We’re there to provide the peace of mind to people,” she said. “For the unexpected that happens, you will have a local captain to respond to provide assistance and get you on your way and back home safely.”

The firm, which has a national reach, has franchised operators who run tow vessels out of multiple ports around South Florida, where 30 tow boats ply local waters. Up to 450 vessels operate nationally.

Most Sea Tow members operate vessels that are up to 35 feet long. The No 1. problem: Breakdowns that occur due to lack of maintenance, Frohnhoefer said. People who run out of gas or need a battery jump are next on the list. And newer boaters unfamiliar with local tides and shorelines are prime candidates to be rescued from unexpected groundings.

  • More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend FLIBS in 2023.
  • More than 1,300 boats are typically on display for attendees to check out.

Benetti’s Oasis 34M Ubiquitous

New Yachts from European Builders

Benetti and Azimut will be bringing their Italian-built yachts to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, while the Ferretti Group’s Wally brand will be present with its Monaco-based flair. Benetti will display the 112-foot Oasis 34M Ubiquitous, while Azimut will be showing four models in the United States for the first time, and Wally will be featuring the wallywhy150 .

Benetti’s Oasis 34M Ubiquitous

Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous

The Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous is scheduled to make its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This is a 112-foot fiberglass motoryacht with exteriors by RWD in Britain and interiors by the New York firm Bonetti & Kozerski. The stern on Ubiquitous has Benetti’s Oasis Deck, which includes two wings that open to enlarge the space. An infinity pool is here as well, and the space adjoins the main-deck salon to give guests the option of sun-drenched or shaded spaces for relaxation.

Also at the show: Benetti will showcase the B.Yond 37M Never Say Never Again. It’s a 121-foot motoryacht from architect Stefano Righini with an E-Mode Hybrid system from Siemens Energy. The idea is to reduce harmful emissions while giving owners the option of four operating modes, including a fully electric mode for zero-emissions cruising.

Azimut Verve 48

Four New Yachts from Azimut

Azimut will have four yachts making their Americas premiere at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show: the Verve 48 outboard, Magellano 60, Grande 36M and S7.

The Verve 48 outboard is a sport boat for weekends, designed in collaboration with Francesco Struglia. Its power is triple 600 hp Mercury outboards that promise a top speed of 50 knots. The stern has been updated from previous models; it now includes “the most extensive swim platform ever,” according to Azimut.

Crossover appeal is at the heart of the Magellano 60, with features intended for longer-distance cruising. For sustainability, the Azimut Magellano 60 can be delivered with HVOlution , a biofuel produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility. Azimut says this fuel, when combined with the shipyard’s semi-planing Dual Mode hull, can reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by more than 80 percent compared to yachts using traditional fuel.

With the Grande 36M, Azimut is showcasing a semi-walkaround upper deck that runs on the same level from the stern almost to the tip of the bow. The idea is to create an area that didn’t exist before on boats this size. Exterior design on the Azimut Grande 36M is by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Achille Salvagni.

The Azimut S7 is a 72-foot yacht built with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion and a “super-lightweight” hull for a sporty ride. Azimut says the S7 also reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions by as much as 30 percent compared to shaft-line boats with traditional chine hulls. Exteriors are by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Yachtique.

wallywhy150

wallywhy150

The wallywhy150 is also expected to be on display at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, following its international debut at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival in France.

This 78-foot motoryacht can be ordered with triple Volvo Penta IPS1350 engines for a maximum speed of 23 knots. With the standard Volvo Penta IPS1200s, that figure is 21 knots. Exterior spaces include a completely open upper deck with dining, sunbathing and a shaded lounge. Inside, there’s sole-to-ceiling glass for great views, with a main-deck master stateroom as well as guest staterooms belowdecks. The yacht can be ordered with a VIP and two guest staterooms, or with twin VIPs.

Princess Yachts Y95

New Yachts from the UK, Turkey, Poland, Australia and China

Princess Yachts and Sunseeker International, both in the United Kingdom, will have new yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Also from overseas will be new models from the Turkish builder Sirena Yachts, Polish builders Sunreef and Galeon, Australian builders Maritimo and Riviera, and China-based Aquila Power Catamarans and Ocean Alexander.

The Princess Yachts Y95 is the new flagship of the builder’s Y Class series, which features open-flybridge models 72 feet and larger. This 95-footer can reportedly achieve a top hop of 24 knots, thanks to the twin 2,000 hp MAN V-12 engines, and it has a full-beam master stateroom on the main deck that lets in extra natural light through skylights. Guests are accommodated in four belowdecks staterooms. Draft is 6 feet, 6 inches, making the Princess Y95 a yacht that allows for access to the world’s most beautiful harbors.

Sunseeker Ocean 182

Sunseeker Ocean 182

The Sunseeker Ocean 182, which was also displayed at the Newport International Boat Show, is an 88-foot yacht that is the fifth model in the builder’s Ocean series. It has an enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge that is home to the only helm station on board. Power is a pair of 1,650 hp or 1,900 hp MAN V-12s, with the builder promising a top speed of 27 knots. At a cruise speed of 12 knots, range is reportedly 1,800 nautical miles. All the guest accommodations are belowdecks: an amidships, full-beam master along with four guest staterooms.

Sirena 78

Turkish builder Sirena Yachts is bringing the Sirena 78 to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Its design is by Cor D. Rover and Germán Frers, with the builder reporting a top speed of 27 knots as well as a cruising range of 1,550 nautical miles. Some of the key design features include a versatile flybridge with customizable spaces and sizable guest accommodations.

Princess X80

The Superpowered Princess X80

Princess Yachts is also bringing its X80 explorer motoryacht to the Fort Lauderdale show. Along with 31-knot speed and four en suite staterooms, the X80 has what the builder calls a “super flybridge.” Princess says this deck is 30 percent bigger than other flybridges on similarly sized flybridge yachts. This space has four gathering areas, including two sun pads forward, a wet bar aft and an L-shaped settee with a dining table to port. The X80’s main deck is dedicated entirely to socializing, with an L-shaped settee accompanied by a dining table forward.

Galeon Yachts’ 450 HTC

Galeon 450 HTC

The big premiere from Galeon Yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be the Galeon 450 HTC. It’s a Tony Castro design that can be ordered with an optional hydraulic swim platform and an optional third stateroom for guests. The standard layout is two staterooms with two heads, including a full-beam master. This yacht has a 4-foot, 3-inch draft that allows it to access skinny waters in locations like the Bahamas . Power is a pair of 480 hp Volvo Penta D6 engines.

80 Sunreef Power Eco

80 Sunreef Power Eco

Polish builder Sunreef Yachts will be making a big show of the first 80 Sunreef Power Eco , which has been christened SÓL (after the Norse sun goddess). Sunreef is heralding this vessel as the most advanced electric luxury catamaran in the world, with a “solar skin” built into the hull, and the biggest battery bank in its category of recreational yachts. Accommodations are for eight guests

Maritimo M60 Flybridge

Maritimo M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht

Maritimo’s M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht will make its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Its hull has a variable deadrise with a deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft, all intended for comfortable and efficient offshore cruising . Standard power is twin 800 hp Volvo Penta D13s. Owners also can opt for 1,000 hp Volvo Pentas or 1,150 hp Scania Di16s.

Riviera 585 SUV

Riviera 585 SUV: Does It All

Riviera says its multi-uses 585 SUV represents the “culmination of 10 years of evolution and the launch of more than 220 SUV yachts.” The yacht has three staterooms and three heads with a full-beam master amidships. In addition to its cruising, water-sports and angling flexibility, the 585 SUV is entertainment-centric with its sizable cockpit and semi-enclosed alfresco deck. Power is a pair of 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s or 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350s. For flybridge enthusiasts, the builder is also debuting its 46 Sports Motor Yacht.

Aquila 47 Molokai

Aquila 47 Molokai

Built in China, the Aquila 47 Molokai is the latest model from Aquila Power Catamarans. It’s outfitted for offshore cruising and fishing, with an en suite stateroom that’s air-conditioned and a queen-size berth. The design and build are a collaboration of Sino Eagle Yachts and Peart Yacht Design.

Ocean Alexander 37L

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Crewed-Yacht Living

The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend is a 120-foot superyacht penned by Evan K. Marshall, notable for its sole-to-ceiling glass across three decks, allowing for ocean vista from most points on board. From its seaside beach club to its foredeck lounge, rest and relaxation is at the forefront of this yacht’s design. Off the cockpit, power doors slide away allowing guests to enter the open-plan salon, which benefits from the aforementioned glass, enabling light to flood the space. A formal dining space for 10 is forward in the salon. The sense of volume and openness is palpable. The 32L has a main-deck master suite as well as four guest staterooms belowdecks. This yacht also has a skylounge with a wet bar, a TV, an ice-maker and a refrigerator, expanding entertaining options. Other alfresco spaces include a hot tub aft on the upper deck and a foredeck with a sun pad. Power is twin 2,600 hp MTU diesels.

Riviera 46 Sports Motor Yacht

Riviera 46 Sports Motor Yacht

Riviera’s 46 Sports Motor Yacht is a part of a lineup that also includes 50, 64 and 72 Sports Motor Yachts. The Australian builder collaborated with 4D Designs on the 52-footer, which has a variety of entertaining spaces, from a semi-enclosed cockpit and the flybridge to the salon and foredeck sun pad. Belowdecks, there are three double-berth staterooms and two heads. Owners can also opt to add a hydraulic swim platform. Riviera has two power options for the 46: twin 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950s or twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8 IPS 800s.

Viking Yachts 90

Built in the USA: Viking 90

The Viking 90 made its official debut earlier this year at the Miami International Boat Show, but Hull No. 1 is still on its premiere-year tour. It’s been turning anglers’ heads out on the fishing circuit, hauling in big catch. All expectations are that it will continue to impress show-goers at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Viking Yachts 90

Viking 90: Ultimate Fishability

The Viking 90 has a fuel capacity of 3,801 gallons in four tanks, which gives the yacht long legs for getting to and from the canyons to chase big game. It can be ordered with an enclosed or an open bridge, and it has a one-piece wraparound, enclosed-bridge windshield for improved visibility. The cockpit has 224 square feet of dance space with a 203-gallon fishbox/live well and a pair of 103-gallon insulated, in-deck fishboxes. Refrigeration on those fishboxes is optional. A Seakeeper 35 is installed to keep everything steady at sea, and the cockpit sole is built with reinforcement for a fighting chair.

Viking Yachts 90

Viking 90: Interior Creature Comforts

When the day’s fishing is done, the Viking 90 has six staterooms (including a full-beam master) and seven heads to let everyone relax in comfort. There’s a U-shaped lounge in the salon, along with a home theater that includes a 65-inch high-definition TV. For more casual snacks, the galley has engineered-stone countertops with an overhang and five bar stools, along with a dinette on an elevated platform for great views of the outdoors.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat ShowIn

The world’s largest in-water boating extravaganza, this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show—that’s FLIBS for short—opens its doors Wednesday, October 25 for a five-day run. It will have seven venues with more than 1,300 boats on display. The total number of boats, marine products and services represent more than 1,000 brands from 52 countries.

Last year, more than 100,000 people visited the show, with about half coming from outside Florida. Many yacht aficionados consider it the most enjoyable show on the international boat-show circuit, because of the sheer range of vessel types and owners—from twenty-something-foot fishing boats in the convention center to the massive 200-plus-foot superyachts at the Bahia Mar. The numbers of new yachts from Europe, Asia and South America also grow each year. Unlike other shows, there is a vessel for every boater profile at FLIBS.

Changes to this year’s show include an expanded Superyacht Village with more superyachts than ever, plus the addition of a new Designers’ Pavilion featuring many of the world’s top yacht design studios.

Looking for a new supercar to go with your superyacht? The new “Car Exhibition at the Hall of Fame Marina” showcases the latest in exotic machinery.

Of course, the show is fundamentally about what floats your boat. Here are 11 showstoppers you shouldn’t miss.

Lürssen ‘Marguerite’

yacht show fort lauderdale

Looking to escape the madding crowd? The 201-foot, Lürssen Marguerite is designed to go off the grid for up to 30 days. The vessel also a 7,700-nautical-mile range at a friendly cruise speed. Launched in 2004 as Avanti , and then renamed Phoenix , the yacht was christened Marguerite after an ownership change in 2021. Designed by U.K.-based Andrew Winch, one of the yacht’s many highlights includes a self-contained, two-story owner’s apartment on the main and upper decks, complete with an observation lounge, a private outdoor retreat on the foredeck, and a floating staircase to a private office. Capable of carrying a Bell Jet Ranger on the foredeck, the helicopter deck also doubles as a party place with sun lounges and a 10-person hot tub. Marguerite is listed with Moran Yacht & Ship for $48 million.

Viareggio Superyachts ‘Atomic’

yacht show fort lauderdale

Launched in 2020, the 209-foot Atomic includes one of the best onboard dive centers of any superyacht to accommodate owner Dan Huish’s passion for scuba. With a fold-down, sea-level terrace and specialized storage for dozens wet suits and dive tanks, the yacht was also designed to explore the world’s most remote dive spots. A state-of-the-art dynamic positioning system can keep Atomic in one place without having to drop anchor hook possibly damage the seabed. Designed by Espen Øino International and built in Italy by Viareggio Superyachts, this steel-and-aluminum superyacht was designed to travel the world. The boat has a 5,300-nautical-mile range at 12 knots, but the twin 2,680 hp Caterpillar diesels deliver a 17-knot top speed. Atomic is listed with IYC for $63 million.

Icon ‘Party Girl’

yacht show fort lauderdale

This sleek 205-foot superyacht from the Dutch builder Icon is all about having fun. As a successful charter yacht—it rents for up to $490,000 a week—the vessel (and its 12 guests) has a small armada of water toys at their disposal, including a trio of Yamaha WaveRunners, seabobs, a wakeboard, a kayak, and an oversized water slide, plus no fewer than four tenders. Reportedly owned by Pet Supermarkets founder Charles West, Party Girl also has the legs to party at the end of the world, courtesy of its 6,000 nautical-mile range. Launched in 2013 as Meridian and heavily updated in 2019, superyacht has distinctive lines from the drawing board of the U.K. studio RWD, with interior design by Cristiano Gatto. One of the many highlights includes a salon that stretches over 55 feet and includes a formal dining area with seating for 14. Party Girl is listed with Merle Wood & Associates for $52.5 million.

Tankoa ‘Casino Royale’

yacht show fort lauderdale

Likely to be the biggest superyacht at FLIBS, the headlining 236-foot Casino Royale is making an appearance in Fort Lauderdale to showcase the workmanship of its Italian builder, Tankoa Yachts. Launched as Solo in 2018, reportedly for billionaire Italian media mogul Carlo de Benedetti, the yacht defines Italian style and opulence. One of its most spectacular features is its full-deck owner’s apartment, with doors leading out on to a helipad allowing the owner to step straight out of the helicopter and into his suite. That, and a dining room with a huge aquarium engineered not to ripple the water even while the yacht is under way. After an extensive refit in 2021/22 that included a switch from stark white paint to a rich copper color, Solo was put on the market and sold in May this year when the name was changed to Casino Royale . The last asking price was €66 million ($68 million).

Azimut Magellano 60

yacht show fort lauderdale

Fresh from its global debut at the September Cannes boat show, Azimut’s lovely, fast trawler-esque Magellano 60 will make the trip to FLIBS for its US premiere. From the drawing board of designer Ken Freivokh, who also penned the 60’s larger sisterships, it features the same trademark teak strakes on the cockpit sides, the same vertical bow, and versatile foredeck for sunning and socializing. Power from twin 730 hp MAN diesels with shaft drives deliver a 24-knot top speed with relaxed cruising at 18. Below-decks are three spacious cabins, with the full-beam master located amidships. In addition to the Magellano 60, Azimut is also doing the U.S. launch of its new outboard-powered Verve 48 with triple Mercury V12 600s at FLIBS, along with the updated Grand 36M and S7 models. The Magellano 60 is priced around $2.8 million.

Baglietto ‘Blue Ice’

yacht show fort lauderdale

Paint big numbers on the hull and this Italian stallion from famed builder Baglietto could easily be mistaken for some stealthy navy patrol vessel— especially with that head-turning, forward-position wheelhouse. Even the top deck funnel has the menacing look of an anti-aircraft gun installation. The black hull and battleship-gray superstructure only add to the yacht’s don’t-mess-with-me appearance. And like any good gunboat, the vessel is fast. Twin 2,200 hp MTU engines, coupled with a skinny five-foot draft and lightweight aluminum construction, provide an impressive 28-knot top speed. Delivered in 1999 and extensively re-fitted in 2016, the minimalist Aldo Cichero interior offers accommodations for up to 10 in four staterooms. Blue Ice has a $4.29 million asking price with FGI Yachts.

Gulf Craft Majesty 111

yacht show fort lauderdale

Talk about a world traveler. Emirates-based Gulf Craft debuted its brand-new Majesty 111 superyacht at the Dubai boat show last April. Then it was off to the Monaco Yacht Show last month, where it picked up a “Best Interior Design” award. Now it’s making its U.S. appearance at FLIBS. Designed in collaboration with Dutch studio Phathom, the 110-footer is filled with floor-to-ceiling glass in its expansive salon. It also has five cabins below-decks, plus a spacious main-deck master suite with a skylight that looks up into the foredeck plunge pool. The yacht is also surprisingly quick, with a pair of MAN V-12 diesels that deliver a top speed of 20 knots. With a draft of five and a half feet, the vessel is ideal for the often-shallow waters of the Bahamas. The price is around $12 million.

Cigarette Racing 52 Thunder

yacht show fort lauderdale

If there’s the rumble of thunder around the FLIBS docks this year, it won’t necessarily be South Florida weather. It’ll come from the latest speed demon from Miami’s Cigarette Racing and its jaw-dropping new 52 Thunder Center Console. Slotting into the Cigarette lineup between the 42-foot Auroris and 59-foot Tirranna , this new Thunder lives up to it name courtesy of its six, Mercury Racing 500R V-8 outboards. That adds up to a staggering 3,000 hp. Top speed? That would be in excess of 80 knots. Styled in collaboration with Italian designer Giorgio Cassetta, the Thunder combines speed with comfort, thanks to its multitude of flashy, red-trimmed leather-upholstered seating and spacious air-conditioned cabin. The 52’s 14-foot beam ensures plenty of walkaround space, with the rear cockpit making a great access point to the water, or an under-the-stars dance floor. Base price is $3.1 million.

Aquila 47 Molokai

yacht show fort lauderdale

Florida-based Aquila is debuting its new 47 Molokai , aiming at the big-game offshore fishing market. The big brother to the Molokai 28, this battlewagon features double-stepped hulls and a raised tunnel between the twin hulls that combine to minimize pounding in big seas. With a 14-foot, seven-inch beam, the yacht offers exceptional space and a rock-solid platform for offshore trolling. When the family is along for the ride, the accommodations include foredeck lounges and a stylish, air-conditioned stateroom below with an island queen bed, with separate head and shower. Outboard choices range from twin 600 hp Mercury V-12s, or a quartet of new 400 hp Mercury V-10s, each giving a 50-knot-plus top speed. At a friendly cruise speed, the 1,048-gallon tanks should give a range of up to 800 nautical miles. Pricing to be announced at the show.

Princess Y95

yacht show fort lauderdale

Talk about prolific. Britain’s Princess Yachts has debuted brand-new models at recent European boat shows—the all-new S72 was one of the stars of last month’s Southampton show, while the new Y80 was a show-stopper at Cannes. Neither will be making a grand entrance at this year’s FLIBS, with the builder choosing instead to give the first U.S. airings to its Y95 and X80 mini superyachts. The Y95 is the headliner here, with its combination of luxury and performance. Powered by a pair of 2,000 hp MAN V-12s, this 95-footer can hit a top speed of 24 knots. The Y95 looks sleek and stylish with its near bow-to-stern hull windows and the hardtop that looks like it’s floating atop the yacht. Pricing starts at around $16 million.

Riviera 585 SUV

yacht show fort lauderdale

The 585 SUV is the latest addition to Riviera’s five-model SUV line-up. Strong points include its roomy and protected aft cockpit, its foredeck lounge area and three-stateroom layout (including a full-width owner’s suite.) It’s also a yacht full of innovative design touches and an impressive level of craftsmanship. Standard power is a pair of 900 hp Volvo D13 diesels mated to IPS drives, with the option of 1,000 hp versions. Top speed with the bigger engines is 35 knots, with a 400-nautical-mile range at 21 knots. Pricing is about $3.6 million.

FLIBS

FLIBS 2022 WAS A FIVE-DAY SMASHING SUCCESS

Flibs 2022 attracted over 100,000 visitors, featured over 1,200 show stopping vessels, and elevated south florida’s boating and marine industry with brisk sales.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (November 17, 2022) – The 63rd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) was a five-day smashing success, as it welcomed back the international boating community into Florida's warm waters. The show welcomed back a global community of guests, with the lifting of all travel restrictions, bringing a boon to South Florida’s local marine and hospitality industry.

“The 63rd annual boat show was a fantastic way to kickstart our boat show season in South Florida,” said Andrew Doole, President of U.S. boat shows at Informa Markets . “Our incredible event marked the homecoming of the international marine community, allowing us to showcase the best our industry has to offer to our global audience. I want to extend my gratitude to the City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County for their support of the show, as well as to our incredible partners at the Marine Industry Association of South Florida and the Informa staff. We look forward to another great event in 2023.”

This year, guests were treated to the triumphant return of leading marine manufacturers and shipyards from Europe, after a hiatus from the North American Boat Show circuit due to travel restrictions.  Illustrating the latest models being developed by the world’s leading mega yacht developers, the lauded Best of Show recognition was awarded to Italy’s Overmarine Group’s Mangusta Oceano 50 . The Oceano 50 debuted at FLIBS and wowed judges with its performance, design, technology, and sleek build. The elite panel of judges included Major League Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez; former professional motocross and stock car driver, Ricky Carmichael; yacht captain and Bravo’s Below Deck star, Captain Sandy Yawn; champion race car driver, Kyle Kirkwood; West Marine Chief Commercial Officer, Stacey Renfro; and West Marine Vice President of Brand Marketing, Josh Horoshok. The FLIBS Best of Show awards presentation will be featured via a one-hour special on FOX Sports (FS1 and FS2).

FLIBS 2022

“The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has long been a critical component to the city’s economy,” said Mayor Dean Trantalis, Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale . “Each year, FLIBS attracts people and businesses from around the world, bringing in an unprecedented economic impact and showcasing Fort Lauderdale to an international audience as an exciting, vibrant, and growing community.”

Following two years of astronomical growth throughout the industry, FLIBS hosted record-breaking performances with record sales and gains across the board for key exhibitors, serving as a barometer for brands to gauge dealer sentiment, consumer interest, and product trends.

“FLIBS continues to set the bar high for our industry, and we are thrilled to see visitors and exhibitors return every year with the same excitement we share for our boating and marine sector,” said Phil Purcell, President and CEO of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida . “We would like to express our thanks to the Broward County Convention Center, Visit Lauderdale, and all of our other local community partners for working alongside FLIBS and producing an unforgettable event.”

A star attraction, the Broward County Convention Center hosted gravity-defying presentations at the Aquazone by Nautical Ventures , interactive experiences at the Kid’s Corner, and debuts from the world’s leading boat manufacturers such as Axopar Boats , Northstar Boats , MJM Yachts , LEKKER Boats , Islamorada Boatworks , Schaefer Yachts , and Invincible Boats . Serving as the show’s transportation hub, the Convention Center provided access to affordable parking, offering a seamless transfer to complimentary air-conditioned shuttles and ticketed Water Taxis. This was a standout element of the show, which granted a smooth experience when navigating between all show locations, including the Bahia Mar Yachting Center and SuperYacht Village at Pier 66.

Luxury components displayed the opulence available across the industry, offering guests of the Windward VIP Club a one-of-a-kind experience centered around five-star gourmet culinary offerings and a premium bar with mixed drinks curated by the masterminds behind Ketel One Botanical , Tanqueray , and Crown Royal . Rounding up the luxury component, organizers partnered with the automobile giant, Audi , to feature their latest electric “e-tron” cars at the show. This new lineup of eco-friendly vehicles produces zero direct CO₂ emissions whilst driving and rely exclusively on green electricity to charge.

“We could not have done this year’s show without the instrumental support from our sponsors. Whether providing extraordinary cocktails for the Windward VIP lounge, showcasing the latest in automobile innovation, to keeping our guests safe and secure with the show’s official fire extinguisher sponsor, Fire Ranger , these partnerships are a vital component of producing the world’s largest in-water Boat Show,” continued Andrew Doole.

FLIBS 2022

FLIBS also took extra steps to support the community through its charitable initiatives focused on bringing relief to victims of Hurricane Ian and building awareness for life-saving cancer research led by South Florida’s leading healthcare institution, the Moffitt Cancer Center and Memorial Foundation . Alongside Informa Markets , MIASF , Intrepid PowerBoats , Reef Runner Boats , and ICON Electric Vehicles , FLIBS raised over $30,000 to help this year’s philanthropic partners.

“For the past 63 years, the show has built its reputation as a world-class event and a prized platform that highlights the beautiful backdrop that is our local community, bringing visitors from across the globe to enjoy Fort Lauderdale,” said Dr. Hugo Fernandez, Chair and Medical Director of Moffitt Malignant Hematology and Cellular Therapy at Memorial Healthcare System. “FLIBS has used its platform and reach to bring awareness to the hard work that our team at the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation and the Memorial Foundation are leading to bring life-saving cancer research to our community. Thank you to Informa Markets, Intrepid Powerboats, Reef Runner Boats, and ICON Electric Vehicles for joining us today in our fight against cancer.”

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show expected to bring over 100K attendees

Saira Anwer , Reporter

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 64th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show set sail Wednesday morning.

It began around 7:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Broward Convention Center.

There were also several other locations across the city where more than 1,300 boats were on display.

From small vessels to large, expensive yachts, Local 10 News reporter Saira Anwer spotted many boats that were worth well over $1 million.

The event is expected to bring more than 100,000 people from all over to Fort Lauderdale.

Over the course of five days, local leaders say the event will provide a significant boost to South Florida’s marine and hospitality industries during the off-season.

According to Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, the boat show has created a number of jobs at local hotels, restaurants and other businesses are benefiting economically.

“It’s also an economic engine and over $1.8 billion in economic activity is generated due to the boat show -- not just the sales itself, but the buildup, the provisioning, the staffing -- all of that is part of the economic drive that comes through this event,” he said.

Attendees will be able to enjoy some of the best in the marine industry from the Aqua Zone, which is basically a big pool that has been set up in the middle of the convention center where officials will be providing hourly live demonstrations.

In addition to some of the boats that are on display at Bahia Mar, there’s also a super yacht village that has been set up near Pier 66.

Fort Lauderdale Boat Show 2023 (FLIBS) & History

The fort lauderdale international boat show is one of the largest and most prestigious boat shows in the world, showcasing a wide range of luxury yachts, boats, marine accessories, and water-related products..

The show will take place Wednesday October 25, 2023 through Sunday October 29, 2023.

Clients of YachtsBlue and prospective yacht buyers and sellers are encouraged to contact YachtsBlue in order to make appointments to inspect select yachts.

The History of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show Dates Back Several Decades

1960s: The origins of the show can be traced back to the 1960s when a group of local yacht brokers organized a small display of boats at the Lauderdale Yacht Club. This informal gathering laid the foundation for what would become the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.

1970s: In 1976, the first official Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was held. It featured around 50 exhibitors and was held at three separate locations in Fort Lauderdale. The show’s early years were modest in scale compared to what it has become today.

1980s: Throughout the 1980s, the show gained prominence and saw significant growth in terms of the number of exhibitors and visitors. It became known as the “Yachting Capital of the World” due to the concentration of yacht manufacturers, brokers, and related businesses in the area.

1990s: The 1990s marked a period of expansion for the show. It continued to grow in size and reputation, attracting more international attention and participants. The show’s organizers worked to improve the infrastructure and logistics of the event, making it more accessible and accommodating for exhibitors and attendees.

2000s: The boat show continued to flourish in the early 2000s, despite challenges posed by economic fluctuations and natural disasters. The show’s reputation as a premier event for the yachting industry continued to strengthen.

2010s: In the 2010s, the show saw even greater growth, becoming a major international event for luxury yachts and maritime products. The show featured an impressive lineup of superyachts, attracting high-net-worth individuals, industry professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world.

Recent Years: FLIBS has continued to evolve and adapt to changing industry trends and global circumstances. It has embraced technological advancements and sustainability initiatives, reflecting the changing demands of the yachting and boating industries.

Today, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show spans multiple locations across Fort Lauderdale, including the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, Hall of Fame Marina, Las Olas Municipal Marina, and more.

yacht show fort lauderdale

The Fort Lauderdale Boat Show is a spectacle of luxury and innovation, where yacht enthusiasts and potential buyers come to witness the latest and the best in nautical craftsmanship. This year’s event showcased a fleet of new yachts that represent the pinnacle of modern design, technology, and comfort. Let’s dive into some of the standout newcomers that made waves at the show.

First on our list is the Majesty 140 by Gulf Craft. This magnificent superyacht stole the limelight with its elegant exterior lines and sophisticated interior. The Majesty 140 is a marvel of engineering, offering an abundance of space across its tri-deck layout. With a lavish owner’s suite that features panoramic views and state-of-the-art amenities, this yacht defines opulence on the water.

Next up is the Wally WHY200, which redefines the concept of space in a motor yacht. The WHY200 boasts a widebody design that provides an incredible 200 square meters of living space—quite unprecedented for its length. This innovative approach by Wally has turned heads with its full-height windows and spacious master quarters, blurring the lines between indoor luxury and outdoor freedom.

For sailboat aficionados, the Baltic 142 Canova was a showstopper. Equipped with a pioneering hydrofoil system called the Dynamic Stability System (DSS), Canova promises unparalleled performance without compromising on comfort. The boat features an eco-friendly electric propulsion system complemented by state-of-the-art navigation equipment, embodying an impressive blend of technology and sustainability.

Azimut Yachts’ new model from its Grande collection made quite an entry as well. The Azimut Grande 35 Metri AMG combines powerful performance with Italian elegance. Every detail has been meticulously crafted, from its wide beach club to the luxurious guest cabins and exclusive owner’s suite located on the main deck.

Lastly, Sunseeker presented their latest Predator model: The Predator 60 EVO. This sleek vessel encompasses speed, agility, and style within its 60-feet frame. With carbon fiber used throughout its construction to increase rigidity while reducing weight, the Predator 60 EVO slices through water like a blade—a testament to British craftsmanship.

These yachts have not only captured attention for their sheer beauty but also for their groundbreaking features that lift them above ordinary luxury vessels. As we bid farewell to another successful edition of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, there’s no doubt that these yachts will continue to inspire and evolve the world of maritime leisure for years to come.
