The best superyacht interiors at Monaco Yacht Show 2021

Monaco Yacht Show is as important to yachting as Masterpiece is to the art and design community. The annual event showcases the latest innovations and most exciting launches from the world’s leading yacht brands and builders. After the cancellation of the 2020 edition, the 2021 show was back in full force with a number of game-changing yachts on display in the world-famous Port Hercules. Interior design was a key talking point during the event as this year’s most iconic superyachts debuted with equally captivating interiors. We take a look at the most eye-catching superyacht interiors unveiled at the show – and speak to the designers behind them.

Artefact: Reymond Langton Design

Artefact, a superyacht at Monaco Boat Show 2021

With her abstract glass windows and dominating exterior, Artefact was one of the most photographed superyachts at Monaco Yacht Show 2021. Built by German shipyard Nobiskrug , with exterior design by  Gregory C. Marshall Naval Architect , the 80-metre hybrid superyacht features interiors by Reymond Langton , a British design firm known for its work on iconic yachts such as Lady S , Bravo Eugenia and Kismet .

“ Artefact represents a forward-thinking approach to the concept of design and engineering a superyacht,” says the firm’s design partner and creative director Andrew Langton. “With careful consideration paid to engineering, naval architecture and dramatic exterior design, it was important to reflect this innovative concept with the interior styling, and enhance the distinctive character of the yacht’s layout and expansive glazing, while meeting the specification of high acoustic performance and a practical living space – requirements that influenced many aspects of the styling and materials chosen from the outset.”

Artefact Superyacht

In order to soften, but not alienate, the yacht’s bold, masculine exterior, Langton created a warm interior ambience through the use of signature natural materials – think light bleached oak and taupe sycamore – which he contrasted with soft bronze and dark walnut accents to integrate with the yacht’s distinctive angular design.

“Soft, subtly faceted architectural structures break up the design – both visually and sonically, and are blended with softer, curved elements found in the ceilings and furniture which are all developed to absorb noise and reduce echoes in the larger spaces of saloons and guest areas, while also interacting with both natural and carefully integrated indirect lighting to create bright, welcoming spaces,” says Langton.

It’s easy to see why this yacht has picked up so many awards. So far, it’s received accolades including Super Yacht of the Year 2021, Best Naval Architect, Best Engineered, Best Interior, Most Innovative, Best Exterior, Green Yacht and Best Layout. Somehow, we don’t expect this will be the last we hear of Artefact .

Moskito: Bannenberg & Rowell Design

Moskito stood out on the shoreline at Monaco Yacht Show, with her sleek exterior silhouette, but she becomes even more impressive inside. The 55-metre yacht was built by Dutch shipyard Heesen , the design a marriage between Omega Architects ’ sleek exterior lines and contemporary interior design by Bannenberg & Rowell Design , the British firm behind iconic projects such as Promise by Feadship, Metis by Benetti, and Galactica Star , also by Heesen.

yacht interiors book

With Moskito , the Britons set out to create an interior ambience that is both bold and sophisticated, without being overly formal: “We wanted to take the breath away, without being aesthetically intimidating,” says company leader Dickie Bannenberg. “That fine line between approachability and comfort. Something cool and interesting, but subtle.”

We wanted to take the breath away, without being aesthetically intimidating. Something cool and interesting, but subtle. Dickie Bannenberg, Bannenberg & Rowell Design

As the yacht is available for charter , the designers opted for an approachable colour palette of natural tones – think sycamore, eucalyptus and smoked oak with herringbone floors, travertine marble and bronze accents. Attention to detail is meticulous – the team considered everything down to the bespoke desk in the 82-square-metre owner’s apartment and the artwork in the hallways – mostly by up-and-coming British artists.

yacht interiors book

Throughout, the team sought to maximise the guests’ connection to the ocean with wave-like rippling architecture, long windows with dropped sills, and open-plan spaces – enabling views right through the interior to the water on the other side. Discreet lighting creates an inviting ambience at night, and large windows in every hull cabin and bathroom offer a beautiful view for all guests, not just the principal.

With the winter charter season preparing to begin, Moskito looks set to be one of the most in-demand yachts on the market.

WHY200: Vallicelli Design

Wally WHY200 wasn’t the largest yacht on display at Monaco Yacht Show but she was one of the most distinctive, both inside and out. The new flagship of Monaco-based Wally Yachts , founded by Luca Bassani, the 27-metre-long motoryacht features bold, futuristic naval architecture by Laurent Giles and Ferretti Group . Interiors are by A. Vallicelli , a Rome-based firm which has been designing yachts since 1976.

“The new compact superyacht WHY200 carries the ‘Wow’ factor engraved in its DNA,” says Bassani. While the yacht appears dark on the outside due to her grey and glass exterior, Vallicelli lightens up the interior, creating a large sense of space that’s ideal for groups and families, with expansive windows increasing guests’ connection to the sea – a major interior theme of the show.

yacht interiors book

The yacht’s distinctive 15-foot-tall bow, which towers over nearby vessels, houses the giant 400-square-foot master cabin – an unusual decision considering most owner’s cabins sit at the back of a yacht. The decision means that the owner wakes up to an impressive 270-degree view, uninterrupted through curved glass windows. Other innovative features include a spacious beach deck with flaps that fold down when the yacht is at anchor to increase the space.

“The new WHY200 expresses all its innovative power through new architectural elements, which represent a break with the past and with the typical clichés of a motor yacht,” says Bassani, who adds that her “bold” design will “improve the owner’s experience onboard and represent a turning point in the motor yacht market.”

Bintador: Francesco Paszkowski Design

yacht interiors book

Bintador , a new 50-metre all-aluminium hybrid superyacht from Tankoa Yachts , is easy on the eyes – and the environment. Powered by Tankoa’s innovative hybrid propulsion system, she features an eye-catching exterior by Francesco Paszkowski Design and equally enticing interiors – also designed by Paszkowski in collaboration with designer Margherita Casprini.

On the outside, Bintador is dynamic and contemporary, featuring large areas for entertainment. Inside, light tones and soft fabrics come together with natural materials such as brushed sandblasted oak, marble, glass and saddle leather, to create a sense of harmony that’s ideal for relaxation. “The owner wanted a cosy and welcoming interior, timeless and understated,” says Paszkowski. “He was very clear about what he liked, but he also gave us a lot of freedom to come up with proposals.”

yacht interiors book

The first thing you notice about the yacht is her carefully considered colour scheme, which juxtaposes bright and dark tones. On one end you’ve got ivory ceilings, sand sofas and honey Botticino marble; on the other, grey leather poufs and table bases, wooden panels and glossy grey Persian marble in the showers. The result is not unlike the private residence of a five-star hotel .

Much of the furniture, particularly in the owner’s cabin, is custom-made, with the remainder sourced from illustrious Italian brands such as Minotti and Giorgetti. It’s a beautiful example of Italian design and a reminder of why the ‘Made in Italy’ label remains strong to this day.

As the yachting community looks ahead to Florida for the  Fort Lauderdale International Boat  Show (27-31 October), where further grand reveals are expected, it’s clear that the industry is bouncing back after the pandemic – which is great news for yachting and design enthusiasts alike.

Spectacular Superyachts: Inspired Interiors Book for Yacht Lovers

If you’ve never stepped aboard Sherakhan, the famed charter yacht, you can do so through Spectacular Superyachts: Inspired Interiors . Her 23-foot-high (7-meter-high) dining atrium greets you on the cover of this new coffee table book. Written by our own Diane M. Byrne, not only does the book take you aboard this impressive yacht, but it also lets you virtually experience 20 other superb superyachts whose interior designs are among the best around.

Published by Superyacht Storytellers, MegayachtNews.com’s sister company, Spectacular Superyachts: Inspired Interiors is Byrne’s first book, something she has wanted to do for some time. “In the 25 years I’ve spent covering superyachts, I’ve toured hundreds of yachts of all shapes and sizes,” she explains. “Whether subdued in decor or supremely over the top, each and every one of them has a story to tell. The 21 yachts in Spectacular Superyachts: Inspired Interiors are among the best storytellers around, so I wanted to share their stories in a unified way.”

Spectacular Superyachts Inspired Interiors book cover Superyacht Storytellers

One-third of the yachts in the book are among the world’s 100 largest yachts. Specifically, those stand-out yachts are Aquijo, Aquila, Aviva, Christina O, Kismet, Maltese Falcon, and Quattroelle. In addition, two of the latter—namely Aviva and Christina O —are among the 50 largest privately owned yachts. Regardless of yacht size, 140 pages and more than 120 photos showcase them. Some images span the width of the book, too. (The book measures 11 inches by 12 inches, so the width is nearly two feet when fully opened.)

Some of what you’ll see includes:

  • the impressive piano bar lounge aboard Kismet  (top), sitting within a two-deck atrium; sweeping staircases and an eye-catching Art Deco-inspired railing are within the atrium, too
  • more than 850 pieces of hand-blown glass comprising an extraordinary chandelier cascading through the main stairway aboard Aquila
  • hand-carved barstools, bedframes, decorative paneling, and even door hinges aboard Dunia Baru, an authentic Indonesian phinisi that took eight years to build—all from wood
  • art, fashion, and music influences in the design of Pink Gin VI, the world’s largest carbon fiber sloop.

Spectacular Superyachts: Inspired Interiors has a limited-edition print run of 100 copies. Order yours through the Superyacht Storytellers’ website .

How to Compile an Interior Manual for Steward/esses

yacht interiors book

An integral part of managing a successful steward/ess team on board, whatever the size of the yacht, is having a comprehensive steward/ess training manual. I have always found it extremely challenging and unprofessional when, upon joining a new yacht, I was unable to find a single note anywhere on owner preferences, scheduling, inventories, SOPs, general interior rules and regulations etc.

This happened to me with almost every new chief stew and purser position I accepted, which meant that I had to spend immense time and effort compiling a training manual myself - time that you don’t always have just before a busy season or at the end of a period in the yard.

In my view you can’t achieve the standards of service a guest or yacht owner deserves without giving proper training and information to your team, and it's unfair to expect them to ‘guess’ what you need and expect from them.

In this column we'll take a look at some suggested content for a training manual for an efficient, organized and well-run interior team. Obviously each manual must be adapted for the individual yacht.

Introduction

A brief ‘welcome aboard’ with some positive input is a good starting point. It is important to make the new steward/ess feel like they are not just receiving a book full of lists, rules and regulations, but that it also leaves the door open for them to approach you – and to feel safe and welcome to do so.

It's very important to add a complete and thorough description of all the on board operational documents – I always discussed this with the captain, chief officer and other senior officers to ensure I communicated the correct and most up to date versions.

Onboard Operational Procedures and Documents

Master list and emergency safety plans and all emergency procedures, as well as emergency exits – I always find it works well to add photos of donning a life jacket, where emergency exits are located, etc.

MSDS (material safety data sheets) for all cleaning and housekeeping products.

All applicable and updated SOPs (standard operating procedures).

NDA and applicable confidentiality forms/contracts.

General Operational Information

Crew information – phone numbers, laundry days, cabin, etc.

Crew preference sheets.

Crew medical information and allergies.

A list of all interior inventories.

Inventories

Location of all interior items – bilges, under stairs, under beds, etc.

Detailed job description for each steward/ess position, including the chief stew and purser - it is only fair to be clear and open about each team member’s responsibilities, including team leaders.

Crew assessment/performance/evaluation forms – include examples of these to provide open and honest information regarding what individuals will be evaluated/assessed on, and how often.

Future performance planning for each steward/ess – this should be fluid and adjusted as each stew's performance is measured, assessed and discussed with the individual.

Daily, weekly, monthly maintenance scheduling.

Daily worklists and responsibilities (including the laundry room and crew mess).

Crew head and cabin cleaning checklists.

General interior worklists and checklists.

Detailed cleaning checklist for each area on board.

Clothing inventories of each guest.

Guest toiletry inventories and preferences.

Explanation of each guest, family tree, etiquette, titles, protocols, do’s and don’ts etc.

A list of service items and favourite glasses/dinnerware, etc. that the owners like, for instance: “Mr Smith only drinks out of the Christofle whiskey tumbler and never wants wine out of the Riedel glass set, always use the Robbe and Berking Red Wine glass for his wines.” – photos are crucial in this section.

In the Laundry

Galley tea towels must always be washed separately from everything else. Cleaning cloths also need to be washed separately. Both should be washed at 95 degrees C but, for hygiene reasons, they must never be washed together.

Table linens – place mats and napkins also get washed separately. Delicate linens must be washed in a delicates bag and all napkins and place mats need to be hang-dried.  They will shrink and become misshapen in the dryer. If in doubt, hand wash the napkins instead of running through the washer.

Galley rags, napkins and tea towels must be collected every night at the end of shift and washed or soaked.

Guest clothing and linens should be ironed and put away as soon as possible. Do not leave guest linens to build up, the longer they sit and pile up, the more potential for them to get marked and stained, and the harder it is to tackle the pile.

Crew clothing should be returned to the respective cabins at the end of each day. Don't forget what is hanging up. On charter, crew sheets are only washed on the allocated day.

White in-service uniforms must be treated before they go through the wash (chef jackets, polo shirts, epaulet shirts, etc). Check for stains and check the collars. If the stain has not come out in the wash, treat again. Do not put it through the dryer as it will make the stain set.

Always make sure that the laundry room is left clean and organized after your laundry shift. Clean the floor, wipe down all the machines, regularly clean out the filters of the dryers, drain the washing machines, keep the liquid dispenser of the washing machines clean.

All table linens, guest bed linens and epaulet shirts must be starched with spray starch and water.

General Laundry Tips and Rules

Only use laundry detergent in the machine, never powder.

Laundry must be sorted: check pockets, check for stains and check the labels, and separate colours and delicates from stronger fabrics.

Guest laundry always gets priority – always check the labels before washing!

Guest clothing: If in doubt whether to put in the washing machine, send to the dry cleaner instead. If ever in doubt about how to clean guest clothing, ask the chief stew first!!!!  Remember to label all guest laundry in the CABINS before taking to the laundry room.

If guest clothes are sent out to dry cleaner, always keep bathrobe belts on board – they disappear otherwise!

Guest linen to be changed as per the sheet change rota.

Do not wash more than one large guest bath sheet in the washing machine at a time, it unbalances the washing machine and can cause it to stop or leak.

Make sure crew use their laundry bags.

Check and stain treat ALL whites before washing.

Treat all stains with the appropriate stain remover, if in doubt ask.

Do not tumble dry unless the stain has been removed otherwise it will set into the fabric.

If you washed boat fender covers or something really dirty, run the washing machine with bleach (empty machine) afterwards, before you wash crew clothes. Then make sure to wash a load of whites after the bleach cycle.

NEVER mix colours and whites.

NEVER mix crew and guest laundry.

NEVER mix galley rags with other laundry.

NEVER mix cleaning rags and tea towels.

NEVER mix engineers overalls with other laundry.

NEVER mix cleaning rags with other laundry.

Be careful when you iron clothes – if in doubt about what heat to use – ASK! Always use the iron cloth over delicates and black/dark items.

Roller iron sheets, napkins, place mats and tablecloths when SLIGHTLY damp and then hang dry.

Hang the ironed napkins and guest pillowcases on a ‘clip-hanger’ during guest trips – they will be ready for use anytime the service or cabin stews need to use them.

ALWAYS make sure that guest clothes are hanging on guest hangers when returned to guest cabins.

Towels Pixabay 1200x630

General Ironing Tips

  • What to spray on sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, duvet covers, napkins:  1/4 spray starch mixed with 3/4 water in a spray bottle. For an eco-friendly alternative, mix 2 – 3 teaspoons of corn starch with 500 ml of water in a spray bottle.
  • Cleaning the vent holes: Often the vent holes in the bottom of the iron will become clogged. Take an ear bud and toothpick and clean out each hole individually. Always empty a steam iron after each use to prevent clogging.
  • Cleaning the internal parts: Fill the steam iron with equal parts water and white vinegar. Let it steam for several minutes. Disconnect the iron and let it sit for one hour. Empty and rinse with clear water using the same process. Be sure to iron over old fabric prior to ironing clothes. If your iron cannot be cleaned with vinegar, clean it as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Energy efficient ironing: Put aluminium foil under the ironing board cover on the board.  It will reflect heat onto the garments and cut ironing time.

Inservice – Guests On

Never leave any cleaning products lying around in guest areas, be sure to put things away in their appropriate place. As soon as a guest leaves any area, immediately enter and clean up/fix that area.

Keep daily tasks up to date, especially laundry. The boat will not run efficiently if tasks are left to build up.

Make sure you finish all of your jobs at the end of the evening before you sit down and stop work.

Do not go off to bed at the end of the evening and leave dishes on the sink, either clean or dirty. Wash them, dry them, and put them away.  Leave the boat clean and tidy as the guests could get up in the night and may come into the pantries or bar to get a drink. CONSIDER THE PERSON WHO HAS TO GET UP IN THE MORNING AND CLEAN UP YOUR MESS.

If you are on late stew, then you need to be available to the guests until they go to bed, or until they dismiss you for the evening. That means checking on them regularly, offering drinks, etc.

When you return from a break, always check in with the stew on duty, find out what is happening with the guests' movements, and see if anyone needs help or has something specific that they need you to do. Please return after your shift in a timely manner.

REMEMBER – effective communication is the single most important part of making the boat, and the guests' vacation run smoothly.

Always wear your radio and turn it down low when you are around guests. Ensure it is charged at the end of each shift.

Always be alert and attentive to the guests and what is happening around you. If you are speaking to a guest, or are visible to a guest, do not slouch or lean on furniture or on the boat itself. You must look and behave in a professional manner at all times.

Guest Service and Table Service Training

Summary of various styles of service used on board.

Photos of different service items/cutlery, etc. and what they are used for.

Basic cocktail recipes and specific explanations of the owner’s/guests’ favourite cocktails and how to prepare it.

A good idea is to prepare a fancy picture book that can be laid out in the bar area with a variety of cocktails offered on board – this can be used for training and to encourage guests to order cocktails from the book.

Another idea is to use photos of how to make each cocktail rather than just give the recipe.

How to do turndowns, turnups and cabin checks while on charter.

Basic food health safety guidelines to be used on board.

General Service and Guest On Rules

American, French, English, synchronized service – make sure stews understand these different styles and are shown (and practice) these styles often.

If you are serving from the left, you will serve with the left hand, that way you are creating open body language towards the guests. Likewise, when serving drinks, you should serve with the right hand, especially wine, presenting the label to the person whom you are serving. Remember to put a wine napkin around the top of the bottle.

Discuss seating arrangements and menus with the host before every meal – normally the chief stew/head of service does this.

ORDER OF SERVING: How do you serve your guests and who is served first, second, third, etc.

Always know exactly what is being served and be able to explain this to your guests (such as ingredients, terminology, origin of food, pronunciation, cooking method, etc.) REMEMBER ALWAYS to have a smile while serving!!!

EYE CONTACT is also very important - if you never gain eye contact with guests they will feel as though you are trying to avoid them. They are there to have a great time, enjoy their meal, and you can create the atmosphere for this!! Even if you do not say anything to them, a smile and eye contact will enhance this atmosphere of relaxation and fun.

When serving pie or cake slices in a triangle, make sure the cake/pie point shows towards the guest when putting it down in front of them.

Always discuss with the chef/chief stew/head of service how plates will be presented to guests – meat to the bottom, vegetables at the top, potatoes on the left, whichever way the chef wants to present his/her food. This ensures that dishes are put down the same way in front of all guests.

Make sure that everything on the table is neat and orderly before a meal, knives all lined up, place mats one inch from the border of the table, spoons facing the same direction. Check the table a few times before a meal, you might find something that you have missed. Specifically check that glasses and silverware have no fingerprints on them.

Salt and pepper shakers are always put down next to each other: Salt on the left and pepper on the right.

If you are cleaning in a guest cabin and that guest enters the room, assess the situation – if they are just popping back to collect something, politely acknowledge them and discreetly carry on with what you are doing. If, however, they appear to be wanting to use the bathroom, or wish to get changed, lie down, etc., politely acknowledge them and then leave the room, taking all cleaning things with you.

Helpful Hints and Chief Stew Pet Peeves

Something I've always found very helpful is a section I called ‘Chief Stew Pet Peeves’. It isn’t fair to expect your team to simply guess what your expectations are and what will cause irritations and misunderstandings.

This section can contain general notes and tips such as:

Flush all heads and run taps twice weekly and put ice and vinegar down each toilet once a week.

Run the espresso machine daily. Ensure that water is always circulating through all the nozzles. Put milk nozzle into jug of hot water and steam – to flush all milk out of nozzle.

Once a week run master cabin Jacuzzi with baking soda and vinegar. When using cleaning products, never spray directly onto the surface. Always spray on a rag or cloth first.  ONLY USE PRESCRIBED CLEANING PRODUCTS!!  See elsewhere for a complete list of cleaning products to be used on different surfaces.

Always carry cleaning products in a caddy and use drop cloths to protect carpets and surfaces. Do not put cleaning products or the caddy on any surfaces without using a protective cloth first.

Always use a caddy for ALL cleaning products and NEVER put cleaning products, caddies, buckets or anything else directly on top of any counter surfaces without a towel underneath.

If you find something is broken or does not work, please report it to the chief stew and engineers immediately.

If you notice another crew member or an outside contractor has put something on the counter tops, remove it to the ground and find a towel to protect the surface.

If anything unusual happens in the interior of the boat, and the chief stew is not there to deal with it immediately inform them as soon as possible. Never assume that they have heard about it elsewhere.

Cleaning caddies must not be left in guest areas overnight. At the end of each day, please bring it back to the laundry and refill all products and cleaning tools.

Never leave any rubbish lying around. Always pick things up after yourself, don't leave it to someone else.

When you start a job, make sure you finish it properly. If you are unsure of anything, it's better to ask than to do it incorrectly.

Hopefully this will inspire you and provide you with some useful ideas to put together your very own (maybe first!) training manual for your steward/ess team.  Best of luck!

A last note

In my opinion, your training manual isn’t worth the paper it's written on if you do not take a few days to work through it with your team on board. It is crucial to make time for onboard training before your guest season kicks off – a day or two, hopefully more, would do wonders for your team’s basic knowledge of the operations on board and to know what is expected of them, improve communication and teamwork.

If time and budgets allow, another idea is to bring trainers on board – for cocktails, cigar, barista, wine, etiquette and general interior steward/ess training. Also remember that all work and no play will make Jack/Jane a very dull stew, so make time for team building and have some fun together! Maybe get a masseuse to come on board for massages or go for a team manicure/pedicure after the season.

“Leaders are those who always empower others” – Bill Gates.

Monaco Yacht Show: 7 Yacht Interiors That Will Steal the Show

By Nicole Trilivas

Room on yacht with intricate blue stone flooring and walls

Running from September 28 through October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show is the highlight of the global boat show circuit. This year’s edition promises to deliver plenty of buzzy debuts, headline-making yacht news, and high-design highlights. There are several new additions to this year’s event in Port Hercules including a sustainability hub and a gadget- and gizmo-filled adventure area , packed with new water toys and flashy supercars —it is Monaco , after all.

For denizens of design, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub is returning for a second year, with presentations, galleries, and exhibits by yacht architects and designers. But, of course, the big boats steal the show. With yacht interiors that range from the classically nautical to the budget-blowing bonkers, these are the superyachts to have on your radar at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Sitting area inside a yacht

An oversized chandelier defines the space in the informal dining room aboard Ahpo .

Lürssen, Ahpo

All eyes will be on the whopping 377-feet Ahpo , by Lürssen, when it debuts this year at the Monaco Yacht Show as the largest yacht in the port. Venice-based exterior and interior designer Nuvolari Lenard added plenty of personality and luxury to the vessel with oversized crystal light features, a hammam made of mosaics in the massive wellness area, and a grand staircase at the center of the yacht, crafted to resemble an olive tree.

Interiors of main deck lounge on a yacht

Blue accents channel the traditional nautical aesthetic.

Feadship, Rock.It

The 198-foot Rock.It is not short on style: Gleaming wood panels with creamy white leather inlays feature throughout; glowing white onyx contrasts with rich black Portoro marble; and the well-dressed owner’s cabin rivals the top suite of an old-world European hotel with a warm wood study and bathroom with a claw-footed tub. The refined design can be attributed to the Netherlands with Dutch shipyard Feadship behind the build and Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design taking on the interiors.

Bar and seating area on a yacht

Modern and laid-back, Come Together is effortlessly cool.

Amels, Come Together

Built in the Netherlands by Amels with interiors by London-based Winch Design, the 197-foot Come Together has soft and laid-back beach-y vibes with a dose of Southern California cool. Elements like bleached oaks, woven linen fabrics, cabinetry with natural coconut shell, and hair-on-hide leathers all unite to bring the natural world aboard this chic ship.

Stairs leading down to a seating area on a yacht

Crisp and clean, the interiors of Be Cool are to-the-point in a refreshing way.

Swan 98, Be Cool

There’s a fleet of around a dozen large sailing yachts on display at this year’s yacht show in the dedicated Sailing Yacht Area. One of the most notable new launches of the bunch is Swan 98 Be Cool  by Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan. The clean and crisp interior hull design by Genovese architect Misa Poggi embraces graceful nautical style and Scandinavian practicality with navy linen and cotton fabrics, dark oak, and handsome tobacco-hued leather.

Kokomo ’s interiors will speak to the minimalist.

Sunreef, Kokomo

Packed with cutting-edge green tech and ultralight solar panels, Sunreef’s newest catamaran  Eco 80 will be making waves at this year’s show. However, it’s the interiors of the 80-foot Kokomo (done in-house by Sunreef) that will impress the design lovers. Outfitted in cool and calm shades of white with rattan finishes and eucalyptus veneers, Kokomo is both on-trend and a complete classic.

Seating room with glassbottomed pool above it.

The glass-bottom pool is a highlight of the yacht.

Abeking & Rasmussen, B2

One of the largest vessels currently on the market, the 281-foot B2 by German yard Abeking & Rasmussen, will be showing off an ultra-chic over-$4-million interior refit just completed in July at this year’s show. Sprawling out over five decks, Winch Design has curated a serene floating sanctuary of indoor-outdoor living, the highlight of which is the main deck’s glass-bottom pool, stationed above the light-filled beach club lounge with fold-down balconies that extend the living space right to the water’s edge.

Seating area on a yacht

With dark wood, tubular steel accents, and black furnishings, the interiors of State of Grace could be described as a nautical take on the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Perini Navi, State of Grace

State of Grace by Italy’s Perini Navi is a gorgeous high-performance sailing sloop. It’s picture-perfect with polished teak decks, an ocean-blue hull, and billowing white sails. Inside is a study in midcentury-modern elegance with a split-level saloon and a spacious and full-beam owner’s suite with a hammam shower.

84 Luxury Yacht Interiors: Bedroom, Galley and Salon Pictures

Azimut Atlantis 50 foot yacht interior design

A yacht is really just a luxury floating home . When you’re talking 70 feet and larger, they’re a lot nicer than my house. As you’ll see in the luxury yacht interiors below, the quality and aesthetics are simply gorgeous. And we merely feature a small handful of such boats. There are thousands and thousands of these worldwide.

Our epic yacht interiors article is split into 5 galleries:  staterooms, guest bedrooms , salons and dinettes, kitchens and bathrooms. The point of this article is to merely give you a glimpse inside these ultra expensive boats… expensive to buy, run and maintain. Be sure to also check out our yacht decks galleries .

Yacht Primary Bedrooms (Staterooms)

We kick off our yacht interiors gallery with the stateroom. When it comes to the primary bedroom on these boats, no expense is spared. They are large, comfortable and stunning in design. These bedrooms are bigger than our primary bedroom.

Yacht Guest Bedrooms (2 Beds)

Many guest bedrooms on a yacht have two beds so that it can accommodate more people. However, they are, as you’ll see below, still very, very luxurious. These are certainly cozy sleeping quarters.

Salon and Dinette Photos

My favorite room on the boat is the salon and/or dinette area. In many cases, the dinette doubles as the living room. Mega yachts have dedicated salons and dining areas. I love these superb lounge designs below in the cabin as well as the upper lounge areas.

Large yacht salon interior

I must admit that kitchens on these super yachts are fairly small. I guess the cooking is done by the staff and yacht owners prefer to have more space for bedrooms, deck space and lounge space. That makes sense given there really is limited space. Nevertheless, these kitchens are gorgeous and the yacht designers certainly didn’t skimp with respect to quality.

Most boats dedicate very little space to bathrooms. Not these. The primary bathrooms below are incredible. The smaller bathrooms are guest bathrooms. These luxury yachts are so large and spacious that even the bathrooms are both beautiful and comfortable to use.

She wears it well: How to pick the best fabrics for every room of your yacht

Master suite.

Yacht currently in build or back in the refit yard for winter? Then now is the perfect time to reconsider your on board interiors. But, whether it's the demanding weather conditions of the sundeck or the aesthetic and practical necessities of a children's cabin, selecting the perfect fabrics for each room can be challenging and time consuming. Read on for our guide to choosing the perfect fabrics guaranteed to stand up to whatever your yacht can throw at them...

Master Suite

“When we began work on the 62 metre Maidelle  (now Party Girl ) it was with a fully custom approach,” says Rubelli’s head of design Alberto Pezzato. “We worked with Donghia and the interior designer Cristiano Gatto to create bespoke furniture in linen and silk and covered walls and ceilings in rare materials like parchment to complement the custom leather Venetian blinds we created.” The bespoke linen treatment comes with a price tag to match but if there’s one place you shouldn’t cut corners it’s in your suite. Rubelli’s opulent Katagami jacquard is a good place to start.

“A place’s identity is defined by fabrics and they reflect the lifestyle of a yacht’s inhabitants. Above all else, the choice of fabrics should be based on taste,” say Caterina and Raffaele Fabrizio, co-directors of fine Italian interiors brand Dedar. Perhaps nowhere is this more important than in the social heart of a superyacht: the main saloon. Fabrics here should imbue sophistication, warmth, comfort and hospitality. Try Dedar’s bold geometric Pachisi print for statement furniture or the discreetly luxurious Intarsiato for curtains and relax safe in the knowledge that all its fabrics are REACH certified for their low environmental impact during manufacture.

Upper aft deck

Choosing fabrics for more formal entertaining areas such as the upper aft deck requires designers to tread a fine line between practicality and style. Fabrics must stand up to the the elements while retaining elegance but this, say Arnaud Dalle and Melanie Bernard, is why Sunbrella fabrics are ideal. “Now, more than ever, the marine market is creatively playing with interior design codes. We believe outdoor spaces should be treated as an extension of inside and carry the same design ethos, which is why all our fabrics are fade and stain resistant. You can spill red wine, chocolate or juice on them and they will wash off like new.” Put them to the test with the subtly nautical Riviera collection.

Dining area

Regarded as a notoriously tricky space among yacht interior designers, carpets and linens for dining areas must be luxurious enough to create the atmosphere of a fine restaurant while robust enough to combat the trials of wine spillages, sticky sauces and constant laundering. Gentili Mosconi, the Italian textiles firm tasked with outfitting the Wider 150 (pictured), masters this balance with a range of bespoke fabrics that are both stain and salt-spray proof.

Main aft deck

The main aft deck is where your yacht makes its first impression so choosing fabrics with a little personality is key – especially if you’re in the charter market. However, as an outdoor space often used for casual entertaining, there are also practical considerations to take into account. Thibaut’s Sunbrella fabrics undergo all the rigorous testing of the maker’s own fabrics but are available in a range of exclusive designs and patterns. Contrast upholstery and cushion fabrics from the recently launched highly patterned Calypso and Portico collections to leave a lasting impression.

Visit thibaut.com

Outdoor fabrics aren’t just about cushions and upholstery and, while teak flooring may be standard, if you want to break from tradition look to luxury carpet specialist Tai Ping. “Keep in mind what each area of your yacht is used for,” advises managing director Xavier Bonamy. “High-traffic or environmentally challenging areas affect how long a carpet lasts, which is why we designed a yarn specifically for outdoor use.” Choose the intricately patterned Surya for a beach club with character or the understated Calligram for a more subtle look.

Visit houseoftaiping.com

Children's cabins

Thanks to new treatments and technical developments, there are now beautiful fabrics that will stand up admirably to whatever punishment children throw at them. “The old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ does apply in most cases, so seeing a sample before you buy is essential,” says Tandine Rawkins, design director at Marina Mill, the British fabrics specialist whose designs can be found on La Passion , Nero and Fortunate Sun . “We recommend our Extex Camber design for children’s rooms as it offers fun prints on a stain-resistant, high-performance fabric.”

Guest cabins

If you want to impress guests or charter clients with the quality of your cabin linens but aren’t keen to go to the full expense of bespoke, choosing fabrics from a recognisable brand renowned for its excellence in the field is a great alternative. Italian brand Loro Piana may be best known for its technical sailing gear and luxurious vicuña knitwear but it also does a brilliant line in natural fabrics developed specifically for yachts. Choose cool, crisp white linen bed sheets and contrast with navy cashmere cushions for a quintessentially naval look.

Visit loropiana.com

For areas of your yacht used more sporadically, you can afford to go to town with some seriously luxurious finishings. Take, for example, your on board cinema . Bonus rooms such as this should emit an air of true opulence but, says Sabrina Valsecchi of C&C Milano, the firm that outfitted the recently delivered Mangusta 165 Da Vinci , the design and aesthetic of a fabric should fit naturally with its surroundings. So what would she choose for an on board cinema? The aptly named velvet Riva in deepest, chicest navy.

Visit cec-milano.com

Foyer and stairwells

“Choosing a carpet for a yacht is like choosing a dress for a beautiful woman,” says Marta Cortesani, international project manager at Chi Design. “Every detail must enhance her appearance, not cover it, and should be part of the environment without dominating it.” This, adds Cortesani, is imperative in high-traffic areas such as stairwells and foyers, where the owner’s personality should shine through but carpets must be easy for crew to keep clean. She recommends a wool loop pile carpet in a gently graduating colour scheme.
