Artistic Wedding Photography Bride and Groom Portrait

Marissa + Oppi Tie the Knot, captured by  MIMMO & CO

From the bride ... Our wedding planner , Machel Reeves, helped us pick the Royal Canadian Yacht Club for our reception. It was an amazing wedding venue – providing a sublime backdrop for our ‘Toronto Island’ getaway.

Our favorite moment of the day was the conclusion of the “laava,” or walk around the Guru Granth Sahib, which describes the soul’s journey to unite with the infinite. This is when the partners’ souls are united according to the Sikh faith, and we were officially married – one spirit in two bodies.

My favorite wedding detail? The photos ! The images by MIMMO & CO are evidence of the moments that we shared, but also of moments that we might have otherwise missed – friends and family enjoying the day and all of the beautiful moments we will cherish forever.

For the groom , the best part was definitely the music, which highlighted bringing together our Punjabi, Caribbean and Canadian backgrounds.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club Wedding

How jackie and james met.

Jackie and James met while on vacation in Mexico. She was there with her sister and he was there for a bachelor party. They met at the resort and ended up spending most of their time together. It wasn’t long before James and Jackie knew they had a special connection. Before James returned home to Edmonton, he gave Jackie his business card with the hope that they’d keep in touch. Once Jackie returned to Toronto she reached out to him right away. After many phone calls, messages, and Skype sessions,  Jackie flew to see James in Edmonton. That’s how their long-distance relationship started. From then on, they spent their summers together in Edmonton and went on romantic vacations abroad. Eventually James proposed to Jackie in Toronto.

They met by the water so it seemed fitting that their wedding took place on Toronto Island at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. I grew up in Edmonton and I live in Toronto now, so their story really caught my heart.

Jackie and James’ nautical themed wedding at RCYC

Jackie started the wedding day getting ready in her childhood home along with her bridesmaids, who wore pastel blue coloured dresses. Jackie wore a form-fitting wedding dress, matching pastel blue nails, and her late mother’s wedding ring. Later that afternoon, we took the ferry to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC). James was also on the same ferry, but thankfully we managed to keep them apart before the first look. Once we arrived at the RCYC, I photographed a first look between Jackie and James under a willow tree. It was a really sweet first look filled with happiness. Afterwards, we took portraits with the bridal party around the island. The ceremony was originally meant to be outside, but the skies turned grey so the ceremony was moved inside.

Summer wedding at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club

At the ceremony, there were framed photos of each set of parents on their respective wedding days. During the ceremony, Jackie and James read vows they wrote for each other. Their guests and their bridesmaids teared up listening to them. The ceremony was a blend of Jewish and western traditions. At the end of the ceremony when James broke the glass under his foot, the whole room shouted a cheery “Mazel tov!” and a flurry of bubbles followed. It was the perfect ending to a meaningful ceremony.

Afterwards at the reception, the couple mingled with their guests throughout dinner. During sunset, I stole them for a few portraits on the pier. I always love taking sunset photos with my couples. I like the quiet alone time it gives them to relax and be cozy together. Jackie and James snuggled and practised their dance moves on the pier before heading back inside.

Up next were speeches from the parents and bridal party. Man oh man, were the speeches good! The speeches had everyone tearing up with emotion or howling in laughter. Afterwards, Jackie and James opened up the dance floor with their first dance to the classic song “Can’t take my eyes off of you” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. When it came time for the horah, I could tell from the couple’s reactions that they were pretty nervous to sit in a chair way above guests’ heads, but once they were up in the air they had a great time. Jackie and James’ wedding at the RCYC was one of my favourite summer weddings. I’m so thankful to have been a part of their special day.

Hi Jessica, Congrats of your wedding! Are you getting married at the RCYC too? Thanks for your compliment. I believe Jackie and James had about 100-120 guests at their wedding.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club wedding – Louisa and Ryan tied the knot- RCYC wedding – Toronto wedding photographer

Royal canadian yacht club wedding, rcyc wedding, rcyc photographer.

Here is a small taste of last weekend’s stunning Royal Canadian Yacht Club Wedding. There are soooo many more gorgeous photos so stayed tuned as I update my blog. Louisa and Ryan couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to get married in July. It was a hot summer day but the breeze off of Lake Ontario and numerous shady spots kept the temperature quite acceptable so we didn’t all wither away. The RCYC was the perfect venue for classic elegance with the stunning views of the Toronto skyline.

Here is a small blurb from their website (https://rcyc.ca/) about the venue:

“Celebrating your wedding at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club can be one of the most unique and memorable experiences of your life. Overlooking Toronto’s city skyscape across the tranquil waters of the Harbour, the historic Clubhouse provides the perfect wedding venue for your private ceremony, reception and dinner. Each room showcases a distinct nautical theme, timeless features and unique island views. Our bright, spacious and inviting rooms accommodate up to 250 making them an excellent choice for weddings of all sizes.” – RCYC website

The breeze blowing in from Lake Ontario swirled around them, blowing Megan’s long dark hair about. Her long ivory vail flowed behind her as she made her way to her soon-to-be-husband, James. They were standing in front of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club , the venue for their big day, which overlooked Toronto’s skyline across the tranquil waters of Lake Ontario.

Her eyes were bright and her smile was wide as she made her way to James. His back was turned to her, anxiously awaiting the time to turn around and see his gorgeous bride face to face. Megan reached for his shoulder and turned him toward her. His smile was radiant, and his eyes were full of love and admiration for his Megan. Moments later the two would officially become man and wife, and smile even brighter.

Early that morning Megan and her six bridesmaids met at 150 Cherry Street, then enjoyed a boat ride across the lake to the RCYC, where they prepared for the day. While they got their makeup and hair done they relaxed and enjoyed a light brunch and champagne. Rain drizzled down outside most of the morning, but that didn’t affect the mood at all. The girls laughed and reminisced on times past, as they celebrated one of their dearest friends. After hair and makeup was done, Megan was excited to put on her wedding dress. The gorgeous A-line gown had a sweet-heart neckline, detailed with ornate beads and shiny sequins. She looked absolutely stunning and radiated elegance and class.

Across Lake Ontario, James and his groomsmen hung out and got ready for the day. James baked his groomsmen cookies, which they all enjoyed, and delightfully sent photos to Megan his bride. James and his good friends had a ball, laughing and enjoying one another’s company. Soon it would be time to board their boat for the RCYC. James was one step closer to forever with his love, Megan.

The rain subsided and the sun desperately tried to peak out from behind the rain clouds, just as Megan and James shared an intimate and sweet moment during their first look. In a short time they would become one, and vow their lives to one another at their precious ceremony.

The calming sound of a string quartet filled the air. Though heavy clouds hung from the sky, there was joyful anticipation in the air. The soft melody orchestrated each step the bride took toward her soulmate, best friend and soon-to-be-husband. As she moved her blue peep-toe heels peeked from beneath her gown. With her father by her side, Megan confidently strode past 100 of her seated wedding guests, confidently and excitedly making her way to her James, who was standing by the officiant and his six groomsmen and Megan’s six bridesmaids. Sharply dressed in a navy suit, the white polka dots on his tie matched his white boutonniere.

Megan’s steps in Badgley Mischka shoes corresponded with the flow of the string quartet’s elegant movement. Megan’s long brown hair was curled and bounced with ever step, her long ivory vail elegantly flowed down the back of her long Hayley Paige wedding gown. They held hands during their sweet ceremony was filled promises of a forever love, with and hopeful dreams for their future together. The two sealed the deal with their first kiss as man and wife, and joyfully exited while their guests cheered. They enjoyed a few moments alone, and soaked in the events that had transpired so far that day.

Guests made their way to the reception in the ballroom at the RCYC, which was founded in 1852 and holds rich historical significance in Toronto, and is a very romantic setting for a late summer wedding. Round tables were scattered around the large room which was painted light-blue, and had nautical accents throughout. The table linens were ivory, which matched the white roses and hydrangeas that made up the tall candelabra centrepieces candelabra centrepieces courtesy of FOS Decor Center .

The RCYC served a decadent hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while guests mingled throughout the room. Megan and James visited with good friends and family, and enjoyed the romantic and intimate ambiance of the room. Everyone was directed to find their seats for a sit-down dinner, which was served by the venue.

Parents and good friends of the newlyweds gave speeches toasting memories, the future and the happy couple. The room was filled with joyous laughter and a few tears shed by the bride herself. Megan and James made their way to the lovely wedding cake by The Wedding Cake Shoppe , which sat in a corner of the room and was adorned with beautiful light-pink flowers and icing. The couple overflowed with delight and glee as they laughed together, in unison with their guests.

The evening was coming to an end as Megan’s beaded gown twinkled in the light as she and her love enjoyed their first dance as man and wife. James tightly embraced his new bride, as they both cherished each second of their beautiful wedding day. A day we are honored and blessed to have been a part of. Guests continued to celebrate the union of these two precious people. Cheers to Megan and James. May you have a wonderful life together!

Princess Anne's 'most charming' brooch has a poignant past

Hello got the low-down from the princess royal's brooch maker.

Princess Anne laughing in red coat

Those who keenly follow Princess Anne will know she has quite the brooch collection. The hard-working royal, 73, is often seen jazzing up an outfit with a dainty brooch from her ever-growing collection full of pieces steeped in history.

One that has caught our attention is the Princess' knotted brooch. The gold piece features a rope design and is embellished with dainty stones.

The intricate piece does not date back centuries and wasn't owned by the monarchs of history. But it does have a special meaning, one that HELLO! got to hear all about when we spoke to the maker of the fine piece, Alf Grant.

Scottish jeweller Alf Grant, 73, has been crafting brooches since he started a jewellery-making apprenticeship in 1966. He tells us how creating a piece fit for a royal first came about.

Princess Anne in burgundy jacket and scarf

"I was commissioned to design and make a brooch for the Princess Royal as part of her 40th birthday and [for] her visit to Helensburgh yacht club for the opening of their new clubhouse in June 1990," the jeweller tells us.

"The brooch was to be presented to her on the day of the opening of their new clubhouse, hence the nautical theme," he remembers. "I [chose] a reef knot made from nine-carat yellow gold wire formed into a rope, Scottish freshwater pearls [to] represent the Scottish connection, and rubies to mark her 40th birthday. This took in all the elements of her visit."

Having made the fine piece of jewellery, Alf was afforded the privilege of experiencing the Princess' reaction to his hard work. " Alf tells us that Anne commented on the "beautiful workmanship" and said the brooch was "most charming".

The King's sister didn't just wear the brooch to mark her milestone birthday, it has remained a staple in her collection ever since. She was spotted wearing the piece most recently when she visited the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training Regiment at St George’s Barracks in Bicester in January.

The royal was seen wearing chic knee-high boots and a striking red coat with the unique brooch pinned to her left lapel. She also donned the symbolic brooch later in the month when she  spoke with guests during a Rugby League Reception at Headingley Stadium in Leeds to thank the community for their fundraising for the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Association.

The royal rocked a second bright red coat, but this style was a Windsmoor Pea Coat made from berry-hued wool and lined with black leather trim, showing off the brooch in all its glory.

"I am pleased and proud that HRH still wears it on a regular basis," Alf tells us. "I have kept all the photographs, the most notable being on her official 40th birthday portrait which was in newspapers all over the world. She also wore it on her 70th birthday tour which was televised."

The Princess aptly chose a symbolic brooch for her poignant engagement

"I received a letter from the palace on behalf of the Royal Princess as a thank you for my workmanship," Alf concludes. "I am a happy and proud jeweller."

Putin rounds up illegal migrants to send to the frontline in Ukraine as Vladimir exploits Moscow massacre anti-migrant backlash to find more cannon fodder

  • Follows multiple arrests of Tajik nationals over Crocus Concert Hall terror attack

Vladimir Putin is rounding up illegal migrants in Russia  to fuel his bloody invasion of Ukraine, just days after four Tajik nationals were charged over the Crocus terror attack in Moscow, with migrant groups left fearing bloody retaliation.

Paddy wagons sporting the National Guard insignia arrived at a vast online shopping warehouse in Elektrostal, Moscow today, where thousands of migrant workers were reportedly forced to show their documents.

Checks were carried out by armed and masked Russian guards and military enlistment officers, before at least 40 people were hauled away from the Wildberries warehouse.

More operations in kind are said to be planned, as Putin seeks more cannon fodder for his ongoing war in Ukraine.

It comes just days after the Crocus City Hall atrocity, which led to the deaths of at least 140 people after gunmen stormed a packed concert venue in the capital and indiscriminately targeted civilians before setting the building on fire.

A number of men from Tajikistan have since been detained in connection to the attacks, which have been claimed by jihadist group Islamic State.

Friday's horror attack has been linked to a rise in tensions, with the BBC today reporting an increase in beatings and racism aimed at Central Asian migrants - and the embassy of Tajikistan in Russia warning citizens not to leave their homes unless necessary.

Vehicles emblazoned with Rosgvardiya (Rosguard, the National Police) were seen outside the warehouse in Moscow as officials rounded up illegal migrants, some destined for Ukraine

Some of the migrants detained today will reportedly face the choice of jail or expulsion - or fighting in Ukraine for Russia.

Migrants who have been granted Russian citizenship also express fears they may be called up.

'They check who is on the side of the military, and who is evading,' one said. 'Those who evade can be taken away against their will.'

'Whoever resists is beaten with sticks by the riot police,' said another worker.

A further 38 employees of the warehouse will undergo additional checks with law enforcement to 'clarify' information gathered already, the Wildberries company told state-owned news agency RIA.

It came a day after Putin spoke on the urgency of bringing the 'migration sphere ... under control' at a meeting with the board of the Prosecutor General's Office, RIA noted.

Putin reportedly ordered that measures be handled 'professionally and competently' to 'facilitate the adoption of legal, informed and fair decisions'.

Still, critics fear the atrocity in Moscow last week is already leading to discriminatory behaviour towards migrants living in Russia.

In Novgorod region, it has been prohibited to hire foreign workers in the transport sector.

State Duma deputy Dmitry Gusev has also called for a complete 'audit' of all labour migrants living in the country - as well as those who have recently received Russian citizenship.

In Moscow, a 29-year-old woman from Yakutia was surrounded by a hostile mob on the metro and subjected to vile racist abuse.

'Get the **** out of here,' she was told - even though she is a Russian citizen.

'Russia for Russians, Moscow for Muscovites!

'Africa for blacks, cesspit for Caucasians! Hail Tesak!'

The group reportedly ally with neo-Nazi Maxim Martsinkevich, nicknamed Tesak, meaning Machete, who died from 'asphyxia' in a Russian jail in 2020.

The scared woman said: 'It was 6.30 pm. I was waiting for the train… Very young guys…came up to me.

Putin says Moscow concert gunman were 'radical Islamists' but refuses to say they were from ISIS - as he insists the terrorists had been trying to 'flee to Ukraine'

'One of them, the most active one, took a metal bat out of his jacket and showed me.

'They surrounded me and began to humiliate me… They called me names from the platform based on my nationality and appearance.'

She said no-one came to her aid.

Two of those threatening her were detained today and face questioning.

On Telegram, migrants from Tajikistan have shared messages expressing fears the community in Russia will suffer for the Crocus attack, as reported by the BBC.

Sharing their concern over retributive attacks, one said: 'Please, God, let [the attackers] be Ukrainian instead.'

Russia's Federal Security Service, or the FSB, said it had arrested 11 people the day after the attack, including four suspected gunmen.

Moscow's Basmanny District Court identified the four suspects behind the attack as Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, 32; Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, 30; Shamsidin Fariduni, 25; and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, 19.

The four men, identified as Tajik nationals, appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday on terrorism charges and showed signs of severe beatings.

One appeared to be barely conscious during the hearing.

The men were charged with committing a group terrorist attack resulting in the death of others. The offence carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

They were all ordered to be held in pre-trial custody until May 22.

Mirzoyev and Rachabalizoda admitted guilt after being charged, according to AP, citing court officials.

While Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, President Vladimir Putin has said the four men were arrested while trying to flee to Ukraine.

Kyiv denies any connection to the attack.

Putin has made no reference to ISIS' claims.

US intelligence also said after the attack it had information confirming ISIS was responsible for the attack.

Yesterday, head of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov bizarrely pinned blame on the United States, Britain and Ukraine.

Speaking after the meeting with the board of the Prosecutor General's Office, he was asked whether the US, Britain and Ukraine were behind the terrorist attack, according to Russian news agency TASS .

'We believe that this is true. In any case, we are now talking about the factual information we have. This is general information, but they have a long record of this sort.'

'What is [Ukraine] expected to do to demonstrate its capability? It is expected to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts in the rear,' he continued.

'This is what both the chiefs of Ukraine's special services and the British special services are aiming at. US special services have repeatedly mentioned this, too.'

The Crocus Concert Hall was attacked by armed gunmen on March 22, when terrorists opened fire on civilians and set the auditorium on fire in Russia's deadliest attack in 20 years.

According to the latest data, 140 people have been confirmed dead as a result of the attack, the most recent dying in hospital today.

A total of 80 people injured in the attack remain hospitalized, the official added, and 205 others have sought outpatient medical assistance.

The Moscow Times reported today as many as 360 had been injured in the attack.

Three days before the attack, Putin denounced the U.S. Embassy's March 7 notice urging Americans to avoid crowds in Moscow , including concerts, calling it an attempt to frighten Russians and 'blackmail' the Kremlin ahead of the presidential election.

After Britain echoed the notice, Kremlin mouthpieces accused both of 'complicity' if terrorists did hit Moscow.

ISIS' news agency Amaq released sickening a 90-second selfie video of the attack that is too graphic for MailOnline to share

The news of a terror warning on March 7 came only hours after the FSB claimed to have thwarted an ISIS plot to slaughter Jews in a Moscow synagogue.

It was unclear whether the events are linked.

According to the FSB, a large cache of weapons and bomb parts were found during a raid on an Islamic State cell in Kaluga, southwest of the capital.

Russian state media reported militants had been gearing up to shoot Jewish worshippers at a synagogue in the capital before security officials stormed the premises and gunned them down.

'While being arrested, the terrorists put up armed resistance to the Russian FSB officers, and as a result were neutralised by return fire,' the Russian state-owned TASS news agency quoted the security service as saying in a statement.
