Learn More About Viking And Find Your Next Boat

In 1964,  Bill and Bob Healey founded what would become the dominant force in building premium sportfishing yachts - Viking Yachts. The Healey Brothers bought out Peterson Viking Builders and made it their own sportfishing and cruising yacht company. The Healey brothers are also founders of the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA), a non-profit organization that was formed in 1996 to promote sustainable fisheries and a healthy marine environment. Being in business this long, the team at Viking has weathered many storms including the years of the federal luxury tax in the 1990's and the Great Recession in 2008, yet Viking has continued to re-invest in the cutting-edge machinery that is used to build each boat, its factory, and its people. While other boat manufacturers had to significantly cut back or even go out of business, Viking's reputation one of the best built boats in the world and smart financial decisions allowed them to weather the storms and capture even more market share once things improved. With millions of dollars re-invested in recent years, Vikings latest models have continued to drive innovation in the industry where others may have fallen stagnant. While its Sportfish business has maintained consistent sales, Viking expanded its offerings by once again building luxury motor yachts. Built with the same materials and construction techniques as its sportfishing line, Viking's first model - the 75MY - was a hit at the boat show circuit when it debuted. Viking's new flagship of the motor yacht line, the 93MY, packs a significant amount of volume on board that is generally seen on yachts well over 100 feet.

List Of Viking Yachts On The Brokerage Market

The Viking Yachts factory is located on the Bass River in New Gretna, New Jersey and has the characteristics of a small city. Complete with its own water tower and medical center, the Viking headquarters employs hundreds of local craftsmen, factory workers, wood workers, and other positions to produce over 90% of every boat built right at the factory. Many employees are even second and third generation team members. This ability to control almost every aspect of the build, combined with the finest machinery available (including a $1 million five-axis profiler that creates foam plugs to build complex molds) results in an unbelievably quality yacht that is consistently produced at the same superior level.

The owner experience is where Viking really excels. Every aspect of a Viking Sportfish or Motor Yacht is designed and built with the experience in mind. For example, the cockpit of a Viking Convertible or Enclosed Bridge is an extremely important area as this is where the action happens when a Marlin is hooked. Not only has Viking equipped each angler with the very best in options from livewells, fish boxes, rod holders, but the quality of construction has allowed Viking to build larger beam vessels which creates more volume in the cockpit, allowing the crew to work around the angler without running into each other. In addition, Viking has designed what they call an observation mezzanine which is a comfortable, air-conditioned space in front of the cockpit for guests to watch the action as it unfolds. Viking has re-shaped what it means to own a Sportfishing Yacht and will soon re-define the motor yacht market as well. Let the experts at United Yacht Sales, who truly understand the current pre-owned Viking market, help you navigate the choices available to you today.

Viking 37 Billfish

The Viking 37 Billfish exceeds the limit on the bar of the memory of classic vessels with such contemporary styling. The 37 Billfish is also designed with sleek and modern durable materials for the best performance. The 37B has been designed to mimic the historic Merritt and Rybovich day era. This particular yacht was built to be tournament ready no matter where the fishing may lead. When accessing the 86-foot cockpit equipped with all the necessities such as a bait freezer, tackle stowage, a transom door and more. An all-weather protection with a U-shape dinette, a fiberglass table with a ton of room to relax comfortably, describes the salon. This 37B is also equipped with a lower helm station, perfect for the anglers who plan to fish in the winter months. Air conditioning is also available on the command deck for those fishermen looking to escape the heat.

With close to 14 feet of beam grants the Viking 37 Billfish a great amount of room and an air-conditioned layout. The galley is an L-shaped galley with Corian countertops, a stainless-steel sink, electric cooktop, spacious cabinetry, cooking utensils and a ton of supplies ideal for extended traveling no matter the occasion.

Viking 42 Convertible

The Viking 42C was a staple of Viking's model line for years and served as an excellent entry-level model into the family. Speedy, easy maneuverable, and lots of fun for the owner/operator, the Viking 42 Convertible is often seen in smaller Billfish and Pelagic tournaments. With the combination of a sleek exterior profile, the spacious cockpit ready for action, and the elevated command bridge equipped with a wish-list of electronics, the 42C has sold very well on the brokerage market.

Viking 48 Convertible

With incredible options for anglers and a luxurious interior that makes extended trips more enjoyable, the Viking 48C is one of the hallmark models from the American Sportfish builder. The 42 Convertible first appeared in 2002, but re-emerged more recently with an all-new look, more room, and additional power. Owners often choose the MAN diesels on this model which will reach speeds in the mid 30-knot range. Late model 48 Convertibles also have the option for a Seakeeper Gyro which certainly increases their value once they hit the brokerage market.

Viking 55 Convertible

For more than five decades, Viking Yachts has introduced a numerous amount of ground breaking designs. During 1996, Viking introduced its first Viking 55 Convertible at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show . Today, the newest edition of the 55 Convertible from bow to stern and every foot in-between shine with perfection. The 55 Convertible tops speed in excess of 40 knots. The flybridge and the cockpit have been designed for fishing tournaments with a ton of amenities to cater to the sport such as a center console hem station. Accommodations include a friendly layout with three staterooms and two heads. Laundry center and a choice of a salon floor or peninsula style galley with under counter refrigeration. From all the custom features to choose from, you can make this boat specifically to your style.

Viking 75 Motor Yacht

Every new Viking starts with a fresh slate, designed to take full advantage of its power on the water. The 75 Motor Yacht has a convertible running surface to utilize horsepower and also for the handling and sea-keeping ability. The Viking 75 Motor Yacht hits a top speed in the mid-30 knot range and a cruising range of 30 knots. Its tri-level layout demonstrates and intelligent use of space. Five staterooms; each with their own head and shower. A full beam master suite and crew quarters, both with access from the stern. Twin molded fiberglass staircases lead from the teak planked swim platform to the aft deck. With a U-shape lounge and table, it is a perfect invitation for dining at the yachts club, or on the hook in the Nantucket Harbor. Rich textures of the designer fabrics balance with all the natural light that feeds in from the salon windows. The formal dining area seats six comfortably and a galley equipped to create anything from a shrimp cocktail to a 20-pound roast.

About Viking Yachts

Building luxury performance sportfishing and cruising motor yachts has been the focus of Viking Yachts since 1964. The family-owned and operated business commits to “building a better boat every day” in the 37- to 100-foot range. Viking is well-represented in the 50- to 60-foot sportfish boat class - the company has designed and built 10 models since 2000.

A source of pride for the brand is that more than 90% of every Viking yacht is designed and manufactured in-house, and that is for the production of nearly 100 yachts each year. Every aspect, whether fiberglass fuel tanks, detailed wiring, or reinforced hull-to-deck joints, all components are manufactured and installed with strict quality control using up-to-date technology and hi-tech machines. Technology in-house includes a five-axis profiler to build molds and computer numerical control (CNC) routers for composite and wood materials.

Semi- and custom options are available for the remaining 10 percent of components manufactured elsewhere, such as engines, transmissions, pumps, hoses, air conditioning units, electronics, and entertainment systems.

Viking monitors every step of the way with Viking production plants in New Gretna and Mullica, New Jersey. Two service yards in South Florida are also part of the Viking family and are located near a port on the Intracoastal Waterway in Riviera Beach, Florida.

Many Viking models meet international specifications for use world-wide and some models are built for European electrical systems and offer frequency converters for navigation in Europe and the United States.

Viking owners can keep up with news and events in the company’s twice a year magazine, Valhalla.

The History of the Family Business of Viking Yachts

Peterson-Viking Builders was a small, financially-ailing boat-builder in New Jersey that caught the attention of brothers Bob and Bill Healey, so in 1964, the two men bought the company that built 37-foot wooden sportfishing boats. That business venture became the Viking Yacht Company.

And Healeys are still at the helm - Patrick J. Healey, Bill’s son, serves as Viking Yacht Company’s chief chief executive officer and president. Bob’s son, Robert Healey Jr., is executive co-chairman of the Viking Group, the manager of the Viking’s investment portfolios, real estate, and corporate manager of Viking Yachts.

Viking created Valhalla Boatworks (VBW) in February of 2019 and built 70 Valhallas in the first production year with the initial build of V-33, V-37, and V-41, with the V-46 on the way.

A Trip Through the Production Line at Viking

• With a multitude of in-house departments and employees, Viking hulls are really on the move as they work through the factory. A trained staff of carpenters, mill workers, electricians, fabricators, fiberglass technicians, installers, machinists, marine electronics techs, painters, plumbers, HVAC installers, welders, woodworkers, sanders, and polishers all play a part.

• The Viking Yachts website shared a look at a small part of the trip:

• The fiberglass department (also called Viglass) handles the hull and the framework, as well as tanks for fuel, water, and holding tanks.

• Next, the hull moves to mechanical and electrical departments. Eventually, all of the interior components are assembled and installed for master suites, staterooms, crew cabins, salons, galleys, storage, enclosed bridges, and heads.

• There are 58 carpenters, installers, and general shipwrights in the carpentry department. Next, the floors are secured to the hull with fiberglass and resin by the rough carpentry department at the same time the rough carpentry assembly team works outside building the larger living configurations and large furniture, as well as deckhouse, cockpit liner, and coaming.

• The finish carpenters handle the interior headliners and hull sealers and then cabinets, shelves, doors, and appliances are installed before carpeting and custom flooring.

Key Partners at Work with the Viking Group

• Palm Beach Towers

Aluminum tuna towers and custom railings designed and engineered at Palm Beach Towers are a key element on many Viking Yachts. The company also manufactures other custom aluminum parts as well as fiberglass parts including hardtops, drop-down electronic boxes, flush-mounted electric teaser reels, and rod lockers built in two factories in New Jersey and the Viking Yacht Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida.

Used Viking 43 Convertible Yacht For Sale

used viking 43 convertible yacht for sale

The Viking 43C is a 43-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was produced by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts between 1990 and 2002. This yacht replaced the popular Viking 41, up until that point the firm’s best-selling model, but improved on that vessel by offering a longer hull, more powerful engines, a luxurious hand-finished interior and a next-generation fishing cockpit. Though no longer in production at the Viking facility in New Gretna, NJ, this vintage yacht continues to draw admiring glances in marinas worldwide and is still a popular choice on the used and charter markets.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Beam 15' 3"
  • Draft 4' 3"
  • Displacement 38,595 lbs.
  • Engine Manufacturer MAN
  • Fuel Capacity 585 gallons

Whether you choose to pilot your vessel from a bespoke Palm Beach tuna tower or from the open flybridge you will find that this is an incredibly enjoyable yacht to ride. The open flybridge, covered with a fiberglass hardtop and featuring an extended footprint on models produced after 2005, features a central helm console fixed to starboard with a pair of Release Marine or Murray helm chairs. On the ergonomically designed dashboard you will find Kobelt or Glendinning single lever controls, power-assisted steering, a NorthStar chartplotter, Furuno display screens, a Ritchie compass and water-resistant Plexiglass covers over your electronics. The flybridge also features a forward seating lounge with a side chaise-longue and an L-shaped sofa built into the front of the helm, all protected from spray thanks to a Venturi-style windshield and an optional Costa Clear enclosure.

One level down and you will find a 113-square foot aft-cockpit lined in non-slip fiberglass or durable teak with fishing essentials such as a transom door with a lift-gate, an eight-foot-long fish well, an insulated livewell, flush rod holders, fresh and salt-water hoses, drainage grills, grabrails, and a Glendinning Cablemaster as well as a bait-prep console with an 8-drawer tackle box, a sink and a chilled storage unit. There is also the option to install a deluxe fighting chair or multi-armed rocket launcher out here to give this yacht turnkey-ready tournament appeal.

Viking Yachts are famed for the quality of their hand-finished luxury interiors, and the 43 Convertible shows exactly why. Glossy teak surrounds, mirrored wall panels and plush upholstery set a sedate tone in the salon, where you will find an L-shaped sofa to port and plenty of cabinet space to starboard. A step-down galley features a full-height Kenmore fridge-freezer, a serving bar with a pair of stools, Corian work surfaces, a Sharp Carousel convection microwave, Amtico flooring and a large sink. Across from the galley there is space for a U-shaped dining sofa with a breakfast table, though many owners choose to turn this area into a bunk berth for up to two guests. On the lower deck there is a generously proportioned master stateroom to the bow with full-length teak lockers, finely grained carpeting, a queen-sized bed and a Jack-and-Jill head with a shower.

Though it is more than 30 years since the Viking 43C was put to water it is still one of the most agile fishing yachts around thanks to a modified V-hull with a sharpened forefoot, reverse chines and a pronounced flare. Buyers can expect to enjoy top speeds of 32 knots and cruising speeds of 28 knots thanks to a pair of 680MHP MAN diesel engines.

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht Used-Yacht Review

  • By Jake Lamb
  • February 7, 2024

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

Gilman Yachts currently has Obsession , a Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht, listed for sale with an asking price of $7.4 million. The 2018 enclosed-flybridge motor yacht has charter potential with its five-stateroom layout, two crew cabins and a sub six-foot draft.

Yachting ‘s initial review of the Viking 93 Motor Yacht reported how the New Jersey boatbuilder’s flagship model was based on its 75 Motor Yacht’s design, but also drew inspiration from a Viking owner’s Westport 112 .

“One Viking owner also has a Westport, and Viking’s designers and top brass spent a good amount of time on board that yacht learning how to nail down the needs of owners in that size range. What Viking developed from that experience is a boat built for socializing, one that lets hands-on owners feel at home while enjoying mega-yacht features.”

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

Speaking of mega-yacht features, the salon has a formal dining area for eight guests forward with a high-gloss wood table with inset stainless-steel trim. Next to the dining table to starboard are sliding glass doors that open for warm breezes and provide access to the Opacmare foldout balcony. Aft, guests will find three sofas positioned around a coffee table to port. The salon sole is Avalon Acacia Cocoa plank.

“The salon has a markedly masculine feel, perhaps not surprising from a company with roots in sport fishing. Rich satin walnut with high-gloss walnut accents exudes a stately elegance and inviting warmth,” Yachting said during its initial review.

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

Forward, a dividing wall separates the 93 MY’s country galley from the dining area. Foodies will rejoice over Obsession ’s galley, which is equipped with a full complement of Miele appliances, including a surface-mount, four-burner induction stovetop, a stainless-steel oven, a full-size upright Sub-Zero refrigerator, two doors with freezer drawers, a stainless-steel microwave, an exhaust fan with exterior ventilation, a Badger garbage disposal, a Double under-mount stainless-steel sink with satin-nickel faucet, a Fisher-Paykel dishwasher with a walnut front. A four-person dinette is forward of the galley’s island, which doubles as a bar with four fixed stools, for casual dining.

The yacht’s enclosed flybridge, which can be accessed from stairs in the salon, has a three-person, aft-facing bar to port. An L-shaped sofa with a coffee table is forward and to port. The helm station is forward with a single Stidd helm seat on centerline for the skipper, which is flanked by two Stidd bench seats for guests and crew.

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

Exterior spaces on board this 93-footer include a cockpit penned for alfresco dining with a 32-square-foot dining table, which has a removable leaf to make getting around easier. Its U-shaped bench seat aft against the transom has space for five guests. Pull up some loose chairs for additional seating. A three-person bar is forward and to port.

When it’s time to catch some sun or enjoy sundowners with friends, the vessel’s teak side decks lead to the foredeck where there is a four-person bench seat abaft a three-person sun pad.

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

The 93 MY’s five staterooms are all belowdecks, including the full-beam (24’4″) master stateroom amidships. The space has a king berth on centerline, a two-person dining nook, a 65-inch flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a queen berth, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The guest stateroom forward and to starboard has twin bunks and a flat-screen TV. The aft starboard guest stateroom has twin berths, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The VIP stateroom to port has a queen berth, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head.

Power for Obsession is twin 1,945 hp MTU 12V2000 M96L diesels, giving it a reported 27-knot top hop and a 21- to 24-knot cruise speed. Range at cruise speed is around 400 nautical miles, according to the builder. Viking’s 93 motor yacht has a “resin-infused, balsa-cored hull with a fine entry and 15.2 degrees of deadrise at the transom…”

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht

Some other notable features include a Seakeeper SK35 stabilization system, Garmin electronics, including two Garmin GPSMAP 8617 17-inch multifunction displays, an GPSMAP 8622 22-inch MFD, 2526 x HD2 25 kW radar with six-foot array, GSD-26 Chirp video sounder with 1 kW wide-beam transducer, GXM 53 weather antenna, AIS-600 AIS transponder, NMEA 2000 (network components, Garmin Wi-Fi adapter for BlueChart, Furuno RD33 data organizer, Garmin GHP Reactor steer-by-wire autopilot, two ICOM M-605 VHF radios, Fusion MS-ACSXV Sirius XM tuner, KVH Tracphone V7-IP, KVH HD7 TracVision SAT TV and more.

From the Yachting Archive: Inside Viking Yachts’ 93 Motor Yacht

“The 93 can host a party of 50 without feeling crowded, yet it can also be driven by an owner, along with a crew as small as two people (though four or five might be the more common choice). And the yacht is designed to feel as open as possible, despite being enclosed.” – Yachting , February 2018

Where is Obsession located? The yacht is currently lying in Stuart, Florida.

Russian IADS Redux Part-7: The Effectors

S-400 Deployment Elektrostal

In the next part of our series on Russia’s strategic integrated air defence system, we look at the kinetic ground-based air defence systems it deploys.

In part-6 of our series on Russia’s strategic Integrated Air Defence System (IADS) we examined the command and control architecture it depends upon. The IADS’ role is ultimately to provide a response to air threats approaching or entering Russian airspace. In Russian air defence doctrine this response is provided using kinetic and/or electronic effects.

The kinetic side of the IADS depends on the Russian Aerospace Force’s (RASF’s) fighters and Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) systems. Sources have shared with Armada that both the fighter and SAM force would be deployed in wartime to protect key Russian strategic targets. Typically, these could include politico-military targets like the Kremlin, the seat of the Russian government in Moscow. Other potential strategic targets include hardened facilities believed to be earmarked for use by the Russian leadership in wartime. One of these facilities is thought to be located at Mount Yamantau, southwest Russia. A back-up facility may exist at Mount Kosvinsky Kaman, western Russia. Russia’s industrial city of Elektrostal, on the eastern outskirts of Moscow, was one of the first locations where the RASF deployed its S-400 (NATO reporting name SA-21 Growler) high-altitude, long-range SAM systems in 2010.

The SAM Systems

Moscow itself is ring-fenced by the RASF’s 53T6 (ABM-3 Gazelle) anti-ballistic missile system. The 53T6 employs SAMs equipped with a ten kiloton (one kiloton is equal to 1,000 tonnes of conventional explosive) nuclear warhead. These missiles would detonate at altitude in proximity to incoming salvos of ballistic missile warheads or formations of hostile aircraft. The logic is that this ‘shotgun’ approach will vaporise, or at least badly damage, these targets.

The S-400 is the mainstay of the RASF SAM force. A typical S-400 battalion includes two batteries. A battery comprises between eight and twelve individual launch vehicles, each equipped with four missile tubes. Thus, an S-400 regiment could have between 56 and 84 individual missiles ready to launch if fully loaded.  Each battery has a command post, a 91N6 (Big Bird) S-band (2.3 gigahertz/GHz to 2.5GHz/2.7GHz to 3.7GHz) 324 nautical mile/nm (600 kilometre/km) range surveillance and tracking radar. The 91N6 is joined by a 96L6E (Cheese Board) C-band (5.25GHz to 5.925GHz) early warning and target acquisition radar. This radar has a range of up to 162nm (300km). A plethora of SAMs can be launched by the S-400 with an array of engagement ranges from 21.6nm (40km) using the active radar homing 9M96E missile. Engagement ranges can reach up to 216nm (400km) using the 40N6E missile which has a reported engagement altitude of 98,425 feet/ft (30,000 metres/m).

Legacy systems used by the RASF include the S-300PS (SA-10B Grumble-B) and S-300PM (SA-10D/E Grumble) which have subtle differences. An S-300PS battery has three Maz-543 launch vehicles each with four launch tubes. The battery is also equipped with a single 5N63S (Flap Lid-B) X-band (8.5GHz to 10.68GHz) fire control radar. An S-300PM battery has a single 36N6E (Flap Lid) X-band/Ku-band (13.4GHz to 14GHz/15.7GHz to 17.7GHz) fire control radar with a 162nm (300km) range. Joining the 36N6E is a 76N6 (Clam Shell) X-band (8.5GHz to 10.68GHz) search and track radar with a 70nm (120km) range. The rest of the battery is comprised of up to eight Kraz-260 launch vehicles each with four tubes. Both the S-300PS/PM are thought to deploy 48N6/E SAMs which have a reported 81nm (150km) range. The S-300PS/PM’s 5V55R missile has an engagement range of up to 48.6nm (90km).

Sources have shared with Armada that RASF SAM batteries are not routinely deployed but may deploy from time-to-time to support exercises or training. The batteries would only be deployed in anger to protect key strategic targets like those discussed above. The sources continued that the task of the SAM units is to provide a protective ‘bubble’ above these targets. Air defence coverage up to 54 nautical miles/nm (100 kilometres/km) altitude and a range radius of 189nm (350km) around the target would be provided. The SAM units would work to attrit any incoming air attack as much as possible. Russian air defence doctrine focuses on safeguarding as many strategic targets as possible in anticipation of an eventual counterattack.

One crucial part of the RASF’s SAM force is its 96K6 Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) combined medium-range SAM and anti-aircraft artillery systems. 96K6 units would deploy with S-300 and S-400 batteries. Their role would be to destroy air-launched weapons like anti-radiation missiles or attack helicopters engaging the batteries Armada’s sources added.

Over the longer term, the RASF is looking to introduce new SAM systems to enhance the strategic IADS in the form of the S-350E and S-500 Prometey long-range, high-altitude SAM systems. The S-350E is mooted as a replacement for the RASF’s S-300PS/PM batteries. Open sources state that a S-350E battery has one 50N6A X-band ground-based air surveillance radar with a range of 215nm (400km). The 50N6A is joined by a single 50K6A mobile command post and up to eight 50P6 launch vehicles. Each launch vehicle can fire 9M96/E or 9M100 SAMs with engagement ranges and altitudes of up to 65nm (120km) and 98,000ft (30,000m) respectively. It was reported in January 2020 that the first S-350E battery had entered service, although a developmental system may have been deployed to support Russia’s military presence in Syria. The VKS could receive twelve S-350E batteries by 2027.

The S-500 is mooted to have a longer engagement range than the S-350E. The S-500 ensemble includes a 91N6A(M) air surveillance and battle management radar. This radar is an enhanced version of the 91N6A radar accompanying the S-400. The S-500’s 96L6TSP target acquisition radar is an enhanced variant of the S-400’s 96L6E. These two systems are accompanied by the 76T6 multimode fire control radar, itself thought to be a derivative of the 92N6. Also forming part of the S-500 ensemble is the 77T6 anti-ballistic missile engagement radar the capabilities of which remain largely unknown in the public domain.

Open sources say that missiles equipping the S-500 could hit targets at ranges of up to 270nm (500km). Russian sources have claimed that the S-500 could engage targets at up to 656,168ft (200,000m) altitude. Russian media, seldom the most reliable source, claim that the first S-500 regiment went on combat duty in October 2021.

The long-term prognosis for the S-500 and S-350E systems remains uncertain. As documented by the Royal United Services Institute, a London-based thinktank, the Russian defence industry is dependent on clandestinely-sourced Western microelectronics for sophisticated weapons systems. Will Western efforts to clamp down on Russia’s access to such technology have an impact on the fortunes of the S-350E and S-500?

Stay tuned for more analysis on Russia’s strategic air defence capabilities in the next instalment of our Russian IADS Redux series.

No problem handling a fishing-boat wash in the Magnum 18

SINGLE HANDING

Family beach-tri, customer feedback.

How is it made unsinkable?

What is the construction material, why are the bows of each float not level with the bow of the principle hull.

Floats are set back from the bow of the main hull.

Can it be capsized or pitchpoled?

Can it be righted if is does become capsized, are the amas for the magnum 21 the same as for the virusplus, would the amas (floats) be large enough to form a kataram for two, is there access to the inside of the amas, how long does it take to rig or derig, single-handing.

With support arms in place it is easy for one person to lift the floats on and off the boat, one end at a time.

How about raising the mast?

The mast can be hauled into position by a single person using the purchase of the main sheet blocks provided that lateral movement is prevented by the use of temporary short shrouds attached to the rings that hold the floats on (see below). But even this is unecessary unless you have strong winds. I now lift the mast up in one movement on my own. I have the spinnaker halyard already attached to the bow and once the shrouds are tight I pull on the mast-foot-end of the halyard until it is tight. Then the mast is secure and I can attach the forestay via the jib furler at my leisure.

Mast-detail

During mast erection or lowering a couple of short temporary shrouds will help stabilise the mast in windy conditions or when you are doing the job alone.

Temporary shrouds help stabilise mast when erecting it single handed.

Note the use of the main sheet attached to the ring at the bow intended for the gennaker. This gives plenty of mechanical advantage and makes the job of raising or lowering the mast really easy.

magnum trimaran for sale

Magnum 21S - 2005 year. Stored in barn in Sussex This boat has had a lot of upgrades / work done to make it easy to sail shorthanded. It is great for daysailing adventures with a real turn of speed. 12 knots is not uncommon... Upwind performance is good in flat water and she points much better than a Hobie cat or Dart. She can be also be pulled up on a beach.

Draft is 1.4m with centreboard down. Bothe the rudder and centerboard have breakaway cleats that pop up if you touch the bottom. This prevents any damage. With foils up she draws a few inches. Can be stored on the trailer, mooring or marina.

With practice, 2 people can rig the boat from trailer to sailing in under an hour. There are some good videos on line that give tips. She can easily be sailed singlehanded, including the Code Zero/furling gennaker. Unsinkable design with foam filled hull and armas. I have had a lot of fun with this boat in UK and Greece but selling as I now have a larger yacht.

• Specification • Repainted topsides (Toplac) and polished white areas. Needs re-waxing /polishing but paint good. • Full bespoke storage cover - covers main hull and trampolines with zip cut outs for mast and shrouds. Made from Sunbrella - high quality with zips etc. • New composite rudder (2016 from Virus) with spare wooden original (in VGC) • Reinforced trampolines in good condition plus a brand new spare set from Virus.

One of the trampoline rods is missing a plastic end cap - replaced with gaffer tape. • New halyards, trapeze lines and some new sheets (2016). • Upgraded kicker with clam cleat 2016. • New jib - made by Batt sails 2016 • Spare jib in decent condition • Mainsail with 2 reefing points. One small repair but sail in good condition • Fully battened Mainsail converted to track cars - much easier to hoist and lower.

• Jib chute with line to raise. Protects jib from UV • New mainsail cover (2016). Much easier to leave main rigged than removing main each outing. • Lazy jacks • Topping lift • Upgraded metal camcleats on mast and boom. Some are side entry for ease of use.

Plastic lam cleats replaced • Barely used asymmetric spinnaker with new Hyde snuffer (2016) • Code zero on continuous line furler. Works very well for short handed or higher winds reaching up to 65 deg apparent. * Extending bowsprit for spinnaker. Plastic bush on bow for Bowsprit is cracked and has repair to limit any water ingress. • Furling gennaker • New main block with ratchet and adjustable sheeting angle (much easier to handle in a blow) • Danforth style anchor with Anchor bag.

• Additional cleat and fairlead for stern mooring or anchoring • Masthead wind vane (installed 2016) • Coppercoat antifouling • Compass• GPS "speed puck" readout mounted at base of mast. • Trailer with new wheel bearings 2016. £500 spent. I am selling without outboard but have a 6hp 4 stroke Mercury outboard in good condition fresh from service that I could negotiate to include for additional price. I also have a 10 HP Honda 4 stroke that gives 10knots under power.

Power outages have been reported in St. Petersburg, Rostov, Volgograd, Voronezh, and Primorsky. Meanwhile, a huge fire tore through a large warehouse used by Russia ’s largest online retailer south of St Petersburg on Saturday morning.

The blaze covered an area of 70,000 square meters, with 50,000 square meters of the Wildberries warehouse collapsing, according to Russia ’s Emergency Situations Ministry. No casualties were reported.

Videos posted to social media appeared to show employees running down fire escapes and fleeing the scene. A video shot from a passenger jet flying nearby showed flames totally engulfing the warehouse, sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky.

VirusBoats have replaced the popular but anachronistic VirusPlus with this classic, new 18ft trimaran based on the outstandingly successful concept that was realised in the Magnum 21 trimaran. By doing away with the traditional but seldom used cabin on a day boat and dispensing with a keel they have created fast, fun yet safe multihulls for the modern family.

Now there is a wide range of trimaran day boats. VirusBoats introduced a smaller Magnum 18 and then in 2004 AstusBoats picked up the idea of the trimaran day boat and have run with it, creating a wide range from an exciting 16ft open cockpit trimaran to 20ft & 22ft & even 24ft trimarans with cabins thereby catering for all tastes and budgets within this genre.
