How to Get Married on the Water

Expert tips for setting sail to tie the knot.

If you and your partner love being on the water, then hosting your wedding on a boat may be your dream scenario. This is a unique option for those who love sailing or cruising, or simply want the ultimate venue to fit a nautical theme. Not to mention, the photos of open water views with cityscapes or tropical islands in the distance are sure to be stunning. But if you’re thinking of setting sail on open waters for a wedding ceremony, reception, or both, some additional, specific planning is required.

Planning for a wedding on the water not only means working within the restraints of the specific vessel you want, but it also means taking Mother Nature and changing weather conditions into consideration. Here, we consult expert planners to learn tips, tricks, and the most important things to consider before you set sail and tie the knot.

Consider Time, Location, and Weather

Whether you’re choosing to charter a boat, planning a yacht party, or hosting a wedding reception on a cruise ship, time, location, and weather are important factors to consider. “Weather can have a huge impact on a waterfront or boating event and can change the guest experience and comforts quickly,” says Nick and Aleah Valley, owners of Valley & Company Events .

In your planning, be sure to check on where you’ll be leaving from and what the weather may look like that day. “Many coastal areas have zones where gale force winds can appear quickly and unexpectedly. Having a backup plan for wind and chilly temperatures is imperative,” adds the Valleys. “If it's too windy, some boats or yachts can't sail, which could mean your event is docked or canceled completely until conditions improve.”

Meet the Expert

Nick and Aleah Valley are the founders of Valley & Company Events , an event and wedding planning company based in Seattle, Washington.

Boat Options for Getting Married on the Water

Getting married on a boat can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Depending on your guest list and wedding vision, one option may be better than the others. Pricing will vary greatly, depending on the size of the boat, the style, and the region where you’re booking. Yacht and charter boat weddings may only require a fee for use of the vessel, while a cruise ship wedding requires paying for the cruise , along with fees specific to your wedding.

Tips for Yacht Weddings

A wedding reception on a yacht provides the ultimate view for a great celebration! You can choose to either host your ceremony elsewhere and then board the boat, or plan for both your ceremony and reception on the water.

To find the ideal yacht for your wedding, think about guest list size first. “Keep in mind that many states have maritime regulations prohibiting the rental of yachts for events or guest counts past a certain number,” says Nick and Aleah Valley. “Contacting the local maritime office is a good place to start for suggestions on how to charter a yacht. They may have recommendations for finding a yacht unless you have your own or have a connection to one.”

Once you know that your guest list count is in line with area regulations for a yacht, it’s crucial to consider space to guest ratio as well. Are there enough restrooms to accommodate your group? Is there enough elbow room to allow for a great guest experience?

You’ll also want to check if the yacht has appropriate kitchen facilities for your culinary team to create the perfect menu for your reception, along with space for other necessary rentals.

Tips for Charter Boat Weddings

If you’re hoping to charter a boat for your wedding, keeping size in mind is crucial here, too. Be sure to choose a boat that can accommodate your guest list and your specific needs. It's also important to double-check that the boat you plan to charter will fit the aesthetic and type of reception you're hoping for.

If you’re chartering a boat, insurance will also be required. “Talk to your insurance carrier about your personal policy and what the needs are to cover the event, the boat owner, and your guests,” says Nick and Aleah Valley.

It’s also important to consider the timing when chartering a boat. “Most charter boats have a very specific timeframe for when they can depart a port or marina, whether it's based on tides, locks, or marina rules, so this can dictate your event timeline,” says Nick and Aleah Valley. They suggest building a buffer into your day-of timeline so guests arrive and board the boat at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure time. This will give guests time to get settled on the boat, and you can welcome them with happy hour drinks and snacks to kick off the celebration.

Tips for Cruise Weddings

Planning a ceremony or a wedding reception on a cruise ship means you’re on a much bigger boat. Typically, that also means there may be other guests onboard that aren’t part of your wedding. If privacy is important to you, be sure to ask the cruise ship’s planning team what your ceremony or reception space will look like, and what your options are for keeping it private.

Depending on the cruise, you may not be able to get married on open water at all. Legally, you may be required to choose to either celebrate your nuptials before the ship departs, or you can choose to say “I do” at the port of one of the cruise’s destinations. Working with the right planner will ensure you’re following the proper legal guidance for a cruise wedding or cruise wedding reception.

“Keep in mind the guest experience and the logistics of what can take place on a cruise,” suggests Nick and Aleah Valley. It’s important to check if you can have events at your leisure, or if you will have to stick to the cruise ship’s strict timeline and events.

How to Keep Guests Comfortable on the Water

While a boat wedding may be dreamy for you and your partner, especially if you’re used to being on the water, it may be tricky for some of your guests.

“ Seasickness can happen quickly, especially when guests are drinking,” says Nick and Aleah Valley. “Have a solid plan, and if you have an opportunity, pass out seasickness patches to your guests the day before your event so they can be prepared for being on the boat.”

Consider putting together welcome bags that might include bug spray, water bottles, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Another helpful option? Put out a big basket of hats and fans, along with a well-stocked station of snacks and water. It’s important that guests stay hydrated to avoid heat exhaustion.

Questions to Ask Before Booking a Boat for Your Wedding

  • Will there be enough space for our guest list?
  • Is there air conditioning on board?
  • Is there a maintenance crew that can assist with potential mechanical issues?
  • What is the galley kitchen’s capacity for creating a meal?
  • Is there a refrigerated place to store our cake? Will it fit?
  • Can we incorporate our own décor?
  • How many life preservers are on board?
  • Is there a specific timeline we need to follow?
  • What insurance is required for use?

After ironing these questions out, you'll be ready to sail off into the sunset as a married couple!

Taylar, November 2023

We got married on Yacht Starship IV out of Clearwater Beach and our wedding day was absolutely incredible. Everything went so perfect and smooth. Joey, our venue coordinator, was phenomenal down to every detail and keeping things running smoothly. We can’t thank him enough for taking care of us on our day. The other staff and Dj Pharaoh were also incredible. We have heard from family and friends that it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to! We cannot thank them enough for making it so special for us.

Marczak Wedding, June 2023

We wanted a unique all in one ceremony and reception, we were exploring downtown when we came across yacht starship we looked at each other and thought “how cool would it be to get married on the water”. From the moment we contacted the boat for a meeting it was a amazing experience. We first met with Chris D to talk about the details, guest count, date and our vision once that was in place and contract was signed 3 month out we were contacted by Joey O (our day of coordinator). We scheduled an in person meeting to walk through the yacht and decide seating arrangements and table placements and talk time line. Every time I reached out with a question or concern I had an answer right away. Honestly this takes the stress out of wedding planning they were so helpful with everything. We were able to do a rehearsal the day before on our boat as well as bring on any décor that we would need to have set up & Joey made sure it was done and reflected our vision. Our wedding was Friday, June 16th and was flawless. We are still getting compliments on the amazing food and service by the waitstaff. A huge THANK YOU to Chris D and Joey O for helping us plan & pull off a flawless wedding. Mr. & Mrs. Marczak

Sleigher Wedding, May 2023

If you want a wedding venue, this is it! Our wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. Everyone on staff was incredible, the food is so good and everything was super efficient.

Kate, April 2023

This couldn’t have been better for our rehearsal dinner! The cruise was perfect for our out of state guests. They got to experience being out on the water, and getting to see Tampa. The staff was so wonderful, and Wendy was so prompt and helpful with all of our emails. Couldn’t recommend Yacht Starship enough!

Amanda, May 2023

We would definitely recommend The Yacht Starship for your wedding. The wedding coordinator Joey was absolutely fantastic! He made sure everyone was taken care of! Starship truly did everything for us and planning was a breeze. A lot of things we didn’t have to worry about and the things they weren’t able to provide like a photographer they had an amazing list of recommendations. We truly want to thank starship and we will definitely be back on their dinner cruises.

Sidney, March 2023

Yacht Starship IV was an absolute DREAM wedding! From the coordinator (Amelia – amazing), staff, food, timing, location… It was exactly what I had pictured for our wedding! The DJ, captain, coordinator, and staff were so accommodating to everything I asked and made sure we were taken care of. We got married in March with perfect weather. Ceremony, first dances, and all our reception dancing took place on the top deck – so fun!

Judy, March 2023

I can’t say enough amazing things about the Yacht Starship! Our gorgeous Yacht was Starship II. We worked with Wendy Odom & Eric Abril both were so accommodating, answered every question and concern with the utmost professionalism! Always helpful !! The wedding went smooth as silk, we were guided every step of the way. Talk about attentive, the entire staff was exceptional! Anything we needed wanted or desired was foreseen by a staff member and delivered before we even asked! We had a sit down dinner for the reception. We chose steak, chicken or salmon everyone said their food was delicious! The DJ was great. Highly recommend this venue!

What You Need to Have an Epic Yacht Wedding

1. access and logistics.

Prepare ahead for a hassle-free boarding and disembarking experience. Make sure that all your wedding crew can easily access the yacht.

2. Guest List and Space

The allure of a grand yacht might tempt you to envision an extensive guest list. But space is a precious commodity on board. Even the most expansive yachts can surprise you with their capacity.

Make the most of a more intimate affair where your loved ones gather comfortably . But if a large guest count is important, don’t worry! Some luxurious yachts boast magnificent interior spaces.

3. Buffets and Table Service

You have two main options for satisfying your guests’ appetites: buffets or table service. If you like an ultra-elegant ambiance, table service might be the way.

Plan. Ensure your choice aligns with the yacht’s capabilities and your guests’ preferences.

4. Don’t Skip the Requirements

Planning a yacht wedding can present unique challenges. Be sure to know all the legal requirements in the country and the wedding destination .

Consider marriage licenses , residency requirements, civil ceremonies, and other formalities needed. This will ensure your union is legally binding and authorized to be held at the yacht.

  • Space limitations might require narrowing down your guest list.
  • Yacht regulation may restrict decorations and impose departure times.
  • Guests are confined to the yacht for the duration of the event.

A couple is happy to celebrate their yacht wedding.

To make your yacht wedding truly epic, consider these essential tips:

Is a wedding at sea legal?

What is the average cost of a yacht wedding in South Florida?

Boat Miami

The Ultimate Yacht Wedding Guide

Everything you need to know about planning your wedding on a yacht and more!

Congratulations!

So, you have just got engaged and now are into planning your “Big Day”. You have both decided on the romantic WEDDING ON A YACHT. For us this is easy, but for you it is full of questions that need answers. That is what we are here for. Please look through our guide below and you too will be an expert on planning a yacht wedding. Between you and Boat Miami your wedding will be perfect!

Miami and Fort Lauderdale are always more spectacular from the water. Nothing can give your event that absolute WOW factor, then putting your friends and family on a smart yacht, with dinner and cocktails on hand, to cruise the beautiful protected waters around these two cities.

There is a huge selection of locally based party yachts of all shapes and sizes, with both modern and classical designs to choose from and priced according to your budget.

The beauty of chartering a yacht for your S. Florida event is that we’ll handle everything for you: setting up appointments so that you can choose the perfect boat, write the contracts, make the booking, help you to choose the menus, arrange for on-board music (DJ or bands), additional entertainment if you need it, as well as optional extras to make your event absolutely perfect for any occasion.

If possible, try to book your party yacht in Miami or Fort Lauderdale 6 months to a year in advance. If you are planning your wedding around any Holiday Date, you may want to consider booking even sooner. Some of the most popular dates for weddings are May, June, and December. But other busy days to consider would be Easter, Labor Day, and Memorial Day weekend.

For most people they think the larger the yacht the better. Not always true. It is all in the layout of the yacht. Size matters but the distribution of the space matters more. It is really a good idea to work with a professional charter yacht salesperson like all of us in Boat Miami/American Yacht.

Here is what a good yacht charter professional/advisor will ask you before suggesting any yachts:

  • How many guests are you expecting? This number can and does fluctuate and must be taken into consideration. We have to ensure that should you end up with everyone saying Yes and maybe even adding a few more, that there is enough space in the dining salon to add extra guests.
  • Are you holding the ceremony on the yacht? We need to make sure that there is enough room to seat all your guests on ceremony chairs and that there is space for you to walk down the “aisle”
  • You will see on many web sites the number of guests that can be accommodated is listed. However, these numbers are not always based on the comfort level of the guests but on the maximum number the Coast Guard has certified the yacht for. In some cases, this leads us to suggest a larger yacht than you might think you need but we are taking into consideration the space on all levels and how your guest flow will work.

Choosing a Yacht for Your Wedding

  • Introduction

WHAT TO CONSIDER

Consultation with yacht charter agent/wedding specialist.

The initial consultation will generally take place over the phone or via email. It is the time when the wedding specialist will ask the right questions and listen to the client to determine what type of event, she/he is looking for. A list of typical questions follows this article.

Selection of Yachts

Based on the initial phone or email “conversation” yachts will be selected by the wedding specialist that best suit the bride’s requirements. Detailed proposals will be put together and sent by email for review. These will be all inclusive proposals with no hidden fees and no unexplained charges.

Private Yacht Tours

When possible, if the bride is local, or if she is coming into town, a private tour of the suggested yachts will be arranged. The wedding specialist will accompany the bride to answer any questions that may arise.

Assessing the Yachts

Make sure that all questions are answered on each and every suggested yacht. Finding other possible yachts if needed. Discuss the positive and negative aspects of each yacht as it pertains to each bride.

Securing the Yacht of choice

Once all questions have been answered and a yacht has been selected and that yacht is available on the chosen date a contract will be prepared. Once signed by the bride and the yacht or yacht’s agent the date is secured and a deposit is made to guarantee the yacht and the date.

WHY WORK WITH A BROKER?

We often get asked why work with you the broker and not direct with the boats and we always say the same thing; we offer unbiased opinions on all boats, we can offer you more than one specific yacht, and we can handle everything directly.

After our initial conversation we can assess what you are looking for and the style you are into. We quote you on a minimum of three yachts depending on your budget and from there we help guide you to what best meets your wants and needs for your wedding. Since we can offer you a variety of styles it makes it easier for you the client to be in a one stop shop. Brokers are often more reliable and answer your questions and requests promptly to ensure you have the best experience with your wedding!

Budgeting for Your Wedding

What you should splurge on, things you want.

It may seem obvious, but it needs to be said. If there are things you want, that will make your day truly yours, then go big and make it happen! That’s the most important thing to think about when reading through this section of the article. We’re talking about the things that will always seem worth the money to you. This will be different for everyone, and that’s why the advice is sometimes hard to give; but it’s something you should think about before planning anything else.

Make a list of things you truly would love to  have on your wedding day , find the average price for each, and then see what’s truly splurge-worthy. Have a dream wedding band? Then book them! Details like this will make your wedding day extra special for you and your new spouse.

Details that improve your guest’s experience

Many wedding guests attend a handful of weddings each year. The last thing you want is yours to be a dud, or unmemorable compared to others. Feel free to spend a little extra on things that will make your wedding an exciting and special event for everyone.

Here are some ideas:

  • Open bar – This is always a crowd pleaser! It allows your guests to have fun, get loose and enjoy your wedding to the fullest.
  • Yacht trip – Even if you don’t want to have your wedding on a yacht, consider  renting a yacht for a trip  on the sea the day after or before your wedding! An extra day of celebrating will have your guests eager for your wedding weekend to come.
  • Great food – Food will always be what keep your guest’s energy high! Have delicious food, all throughout the night to keep your people happy.

The videographer and photographer

You can always find a great photographer and videographer no matter your budget. However, it’s important to steer clear of artists that advertise themselves as ‘budget’ vendors. You will miss out on pertinent details like education, a second shooter (or drone), have exclusive rights to the photos and footage after, or they truly may not have the talent you desire. It would be tragic to not be able to relive the best day of your life because of sub-par video and photos.

WHAT YOU SHOULD SAVE ON

Decorations and flowers.

You can consider saving on decorations and floral arrangements if you have a more extravagant/expensive venue. Pricier venues tend to not need as many decorations brought in by you. However, if your venue needs some love buy decorations in bulk to save money. Your decorations only need to last for one day, so you can get away with buying cheaper items. Shop around for different florists’ prices, and without offending them, try to negotiate the price with a local florist. Local and small businesses are usually flexible with pricing and lovely to work with. You could always do DIY décor and use faux flowers.

The Champagne toast

If you are splurging on an open bar, then skip the champagne toast all together. Although champagne toasts give a classy touch to a wedding, they can be expensive, and some guests won’t even drink it! When it’s time for the toast, most of your guests will have a drink so encourage them to raise their glass to toast.

Wedding favors

It’s nice to thank your guests for celebrating your night with you, and you definitely should. However, there are plenty of ways to save on wedding favors. Head to Pinterest for DIY wedding favor ideas and then browse for the best price for all the items you need. If you do want to provide favors, go the least expensive route and use candy. You can purchase affordable small bags or boxes and place a few Hersey kisses or M&M’s. It is something small but also will not get wasted.

Wedding coordinator/planner

The yachts we work with have on board coordinators that we will communicate with and arrange your day of needs and timeline. When you book with us, we will work hand in hand with you and personally arrange all details with the crew, chef, and day of coordinator. It is not necessary to pay for a coordinator when we offer this service at no additional charge; also considering we work with these yachts on a daily basis we have a professional relationships with them which ensure we will have faster response times and first right to any extras they may include!

Every bride wants to feel like a princess on what is going to be one of the most amazing moments in their life, and for most that means a large poufy princess gown with a long veil and a ton of glamour.

A large princess gown would be appealing if your venue is in a church, however for a yacht you might want to consider something that is a little less extra and more along the lines of form fitted and elegant to better suite your yacht venue.

Two styles that we suggest looking at would be the Mermaid and A-line. Mermaid dresses are fitted on the body and flare out towards the bottom to give you a slight princess feel. On the other hand, the A-line style offers a fitted top with a slight flare straight down to offer some body to your gown. Majority of wedding gowns now have a lot of character, so you shouldn’t need a to add any extra jewelry besides a head piece or a necklace. Yacht weddings are elegant, but you should still be comfortable and confident, so whatever dress better suits you!

BRIDESMAIDS

Yes ladies, your bridesmaids are just as important and deserve to look amazing as well! Most days brides are picking a few options for their bridesmaids to select from, this allows them to select a style they may be comfortable wearing and depending on cost they can choose how much they are comfortable spending.

Long dresses are very elegant but knee length cocktail dresses with the right style shoe can make your bridesmaids look stunning. Consider the time of year you are getting married, are you in the dead of summer, then maybe a cocktail length dress would be better suited while in the winter months a floor length dress would be more comfortable.

GUEST ATTIRE

When it comes to the guests attire you obviously want them to be comfortable but not sweatpants comfortable. You could suggest to your guests to wear either “Semi-formal” or “Casual”. Year round in Florida you cannot go wrong with these options, just depends on the feel you are going for.

Semi-formal suggests formal darker hues for an evening, but for daytime lighter colors. Women can wear a cocktail dress or dressy skirt with a top and men should wear a suit and tie.

Casual attire suggests that anything goes besides Jeans, Shorts, and tank tops. It’s safe to say you could call it “Business casual”. Men can wear dress pants with a nice button-down shirt, Woman can wear a sundress with casual hair and makeup.

Picking the Right Wedding Cake and Menu

Wedding cake.

The styles of wedding cakes are constantly changing to match the latest trends. However, keeping it simple and sticking with a solid white cake with a slight varying pattern, and flowers provided by your florist, you can’t go wrong.

Some brides want the full extravagant wedding cakes with 5 tiers, soaked in Grand Marnier with fondant, sugar flowers, and Ombre colored. Now that is just too wild for a wedding cake that will be demolished by being cut up and it honestly does not sound appealing.

Ombre style which comes from the hair-dye fad showing shaded color gradients is still an option for some brides, but they want a more subtle difference of colors and not as mechanical as the original ombre.

Upside- down ruffles where each layer of the cake looks like a petticoat, and ‘messy buttercream’ also known as grandma style icing is common, it makes the cake look homemade.

Some brides are requesting gluten free, organic, sugar free, and vegan wedding cakes as well as shapes of hexagons, square, and octagon shaped tiers. This is your decision, but the bakers can direct you in the proper direction.

The wide variety of yachts we offer often include Wedding cakes in their packages. We can either take your cake request and work with the baker for you or you can contact them direct if you have more of a unique style.

Two fabulous bakers we recommend in the South Florida area would be Cakes by  Edda Cake Design , and  Ana Paz Cakes . They have many years of experience and create some jaw dropping cakes. Most yachts include a wedding cake with their wedding packages, and these are the two main bakers we suggest who know what the restrictions and flavor limits that are within the allowance of the yachts cake limits.

All in all, the wedding cake is a symbol of your union together and a new beginning. We are here to help guide you as well and you are more than welcome to provide your own cake from your preferred baker.

One of the most important points of a wedding is the food this is one of the things people will remember the most. The yachts we work with offer a variety of menus to choose from. You can either go the simple Buffet route or go with a Formal sit-down dinner. Buffet menus are often more cost effective and generally for larger weddings we suggest to go this route. With sit down dinners they can take longer and if you only have 5 hours on the yacht you do not want to spend majority of your time sitting at a table, you want to dance and enjoy the scenery.

Buffet menus generally range from $40.00 per person to $79.00 per person. Sit down menus are typically higher and range from $65.00 per person to $85.00 per person. Costs vary depending on the yacht and this is something we can discuss further upon booking. We can work directly with the chef and create custom menus as well. Depending on the items chosen would of course determine the cost. Below you can see a sample buffet and sit-down dinner menus that offer a cocktail reception with stationary hors d’oeuvres, dinner, sides, and salad.

Outside Catering

Often there are clients who request to have outside catering. This could be for several reasons and to name a few would be: Dietary restrictions, religious beliefs, preference of food, or unsure of the quality of food offered. You can have outside catering on these yachts but generally it is only allowed if you need it for religious beliefs. For example, Kosher catering, our yachts are not Kosher approved, so this would be the exception.

The chefs that work on these yachts have numerous years of experience and often come from high end restaurants around the country.

With having an outside caterer there is a fee that each yacht charges and they must be licensed and insured to even come aboard.

Each yacht has specific menus and pricing but majority of them can accommodate children. A children’s menu could be either half price of the standard buffet offered or a designated menu with chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese. These menus could vary from $35 to $35 per child. Children under 4 are free but those aged 5 to 12 could be on the “teen or kids” menu.

Managing Your Guests and Creating a Wedding Registry

Tips and tricks to creating a guest list, start by creating a a-list and a b-list.

It can be hard to decide who to invite and who not to invite but you have to be realistic about your figures. To help make it easy on you create two separate lists. A-list should consist of your immediate family and close friends. Those you couldn’t imagine not having there. Your B-list should be consisted of those you still really want at your wedding but may not be able to afford the extra guests. Moving forward from this you have your numbers of your A-list so send those RSVP’s first. When you start receiving declined invitations then start sending out invites to your B-list but in order of importance. For example, your best friends’ parents who are second parents to you should get priority over your friend of a friend who you went to college with.

Cutting out plus ones

You want your guests to be happy, but it is also your wedding they are attending. You do not have to extend a plus one to everyone! You may have a close friend who has been with their significant other longer than 6 months, but do you still invite them? Well, have you personally met them? Have you spent time with them and know them? If you or your fiancé have not really met them then there shouldn’t be an extended invitation sent out. Consider only giving plus ones to those close friends who are already married, engaged, or you are confident they will last. Settle on a cut off time as far as dating so when you do send out invitations no one’s feelings will be hurt. Does that mean you should invite your maid of honors new boyfriend whom they’ve only been together for 4 months, I would say no.

Say no to children

This can be a very tough decision, and one that is not made lightly. By choosing not to have children this will help to keep your guest numbers low. Depending on your venue there may even be some limitations on children attending at all. Considering your venue is on a yacht, children under 4 are free but those who are 5 and older must be accounted for in your guest total, meaning you must pay for them. You may have a child of your own that you want there and that is okay but does not mean you have to extend the invitation to your friends and family who have children. Some people will be upset and may decline your invitation but that is their decision. This just means your list will get even smaller!

Include names on response cards

The standard RSVP cards that are sent out have a line where you write your name and accept or decline the number of seats reserved. To avoid any mishaps with guests adding additional people have their names printed on the response cards prior to sending them out. This will hopefully make it impossible for anyone to force an invite you. If you do happen to have someone not understand the concept of preprinted names, then kindly call them to explain you’ve only extended the invite to 2 of you not 5.

Know your venue limits

After creating your A-list and B-list you have a general idea of your guest numbers and with this number in mind you can get a better idea of cost for your venue. No matter your budget you need to know the maximum capacity of your venue and the cost per head. For example, you have 175 guests on your list but now you know the figures from your venue and soon realize you can only afford to have 100 to 130 guests.

CHILD CARE ON YACHTS

Although children are permitted on the yachts it is not the crew’s responsibility to keep watch on the children. Of course, they will ensure the children are not in any danger, but it is up to you the client to have the proper childcare should you want your guests bringing children to enjoy themselves. The other option would be to opt for a child free wedding.

HOTEL ROOM BLOCKS

Room blocks are often a wedding standard when you have out of town guests traveling or it is a destination wedding. We typically can have the yachts docked outside of hotels but it all depends on availability. Not all of these yachts are located in the same Marina, they are located in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. For example, there are a few that are located in Miami near Bayside Marketplace. If you have never been to Miami this is a great place to look into blocking hotel rooms off for your guests. Or if you are in Hollywood the Diplomat Beach Resort and even the Margaritaville hotel is an amazing option.

Depending of the time of year your wedding is it would be ideal to book a room block at least 6 months to a year in advance. If you are getting married in March or April, make yourself aware of when spring break will be for schools as generally hotels in South Florida are either booked or their prices increase!

You can usually make an inquiry online through the hotel, but it may be easier to speak with someone on the phone, so they can better assist you. When you do find your preferred hotel, you want to use make sure you cover the basics first before signing the contract. Here are a few questions you should keep in mind when arranging your hotel block.

  • Is there a minimum number of rooms required?
  • What is the cutoff date to book a room?
  • How many days before and after the day of the wedding can the discount be honored?
  • Will the rooms be on the same floor or next to each other?
  • Will the guests have an online code or need to call and reserve a room?
  • Is there a deposit required?
  • What is the penalty if you cancel your room block?
  • Can you add more rooms if you need more than your original block?
  • What amenities are included?

These are just a few basic questions you should consider asking your hotel you are interested in.

CREATING A WEDDING REGISTRY

It’s no secret that this retail giant has become hugely popular, and if you are one of the many fans of their “designer goods for less” credo, you should certainly stop by Target to register. You’ll also get a 15% completion discount to use in store and online for those last few gifts on your list. Target also offers a “group gifting” feature that allows a group of people to go all-in on a bigger gift for the couple.

William Sonoma

For devoted foodies and big entertainers, Williams-Sonoma should be an obvious registry pick. With tons of professional-grade cookware, beautiful home accents, and entertaining essentials, you can pick out nearly everything you’ll need. You’ll get bonus gifts when guests purchase certain products off your registry, a post-wedding discount of 10% off purchases for six months following your wedding, and private appointments with a registry specialist to select products or learn how to use the ones you already received.

Bed, Bath, & Beyond

When it comes to one-stop shopping convenience, few retailers can beat Bed, Bath & Beyond. It’s the perfect place to scan all of your essentials, like housewares, linens, and appliances. And since they offer tons of different brands, you can select must-haves at a range of different price points. Plus, with free announcement cards to tell friends and family where you’ve registered, expert consultants to help you decide which items to pick, and a completion program that lets you purchase your remaining gifts at a discounted price after the big day, this retailer is a registry no-brainer.

Macy’s

With a huge selection of brands, products, and styles, you’ll be able to cross nearly everything off your list here. And with locations on both the east and west coast, your friends and family can shop in store with ease. You’ll also receive Star Rewards accumulated based on the gifts purchased through your registry. When your guests go shopping, they’ll also receive 10%t off the purchase, as well as five percent back for themselves! And, post-wedding, Macy’s offers a 20% completion discount.

Move your wedding registry into the digital age with Amazon! Let’s say you’re seriously coveting just a few items from a retailer, but it doesn’t make sense to create an entire registry there. With Amazon’s universal registry, you can add items to your list that weren’t found on their site. But we have a feeling you’ll be able to curate a great selection of goods without ever navigating off their site.

On top of their large selection of name brand kitchenware, furniture, and home décor, Wayfair offers curated collections that make it easy for brides to sort through all the products to pick and choose what suits their style. Wayfair is also one of the wedding registries that offers group gifting. Wayfair offers a 10% completion discount after the “I do’s” are done.

Neiman Marcus

If you’re looking for top-of-the-line dinnerware, fine linens, and beautiful table accessories, head to Neiman Marcus wedding registry department. This registry is best suited for couples near a store, though, as not all online selections will be available to add to your list. Neiman Marcus offers free gift packaging, free shipping and free returns on all purchases, as well as an online thank you note manager and a 10% completion discount. In addition, when you register with Neiman Marcus you can arrange for the Neiman Marcus restaurant to cater your wedding events at 10% off.

1-Year and Day-of-Wedding Timeline

1-year wedding preparation checklist.

Preparing for a wedding can be very stressful. But starting them way in advance can ease the stress and allow you to enjoy the process. Below is a sample 1-Year for preparing your dream yacht wedding that can help you get started.

DAY-OF SCHEDULE

It is finally the big day! The moment you and your soon to be Husband or Wife have been waiting for! The weddings on our yachts are usually about 5 hours including the ceremony. Below we have put together a sample timeline for what you can expect on your day of. Timelines can be adjusted according to your preferences, but this is a good start!

Picking Your Officiant and Vendors

The Yachts we work with have wedding packages that often include use of a wedding officiant. They are certified and ordained in the State of Florida so yes it would be a legal wedding. However, you can provide your own officiant especially if you have specific religious preferences.

Although we are a one stop shop there are still a few vendors that need to be booked that are not typically included in your proposal. We can work with these vendors directly for you, so you do not have to lift a finger. However, if you are more of the hands-on bride, we can give you our suggestions and you can pick your own based on your preferences.

DJ & Live bands

All yachts have their own preferred DJ companies, this does not mean you cannot provide your own. However, when providing your own there is an outside vendor fee that varies depending on the yacht and they must have liability insurance.

The DJ’s that are used on these yachts are very highly recommended and you have the capability to speak with them to give them a list of songs you want to hear.

Live bands can be an option but as having outside DJ’s there is an outside vendor fee as well. You let us know what type of band you are interested in and we will handle everything for you!

Most yachts have standard centerpieces available to be used but if you do not want to use the basic ones available, we have suggested florists you can work with. You can either work with them directly or we can coordinate it all for you. You may need a florist regardless if you want to have flowers for your wedding arch, cake flowers, or random décor and especially if you do not want to handle your own décor.

Photographers/Videographers

This is a vendor we do not like to handle only because a photographer is based on your own preference. Choosing a photographer is also a fun experience, now if you do need some guidance, we do have a few we can suggest to you that have done previous work on these yachts. If you want us to coordinate timing with them, we can speak with them and arrange this if you are not comfortable doing so. Videographers are also common for weddings now; most photographers have in house videographers you can use. Cost is determined on how many hours you need them for, this is something we can also coordinate directly with them if you do not want to handle this.

Planning Décor and Party Rentals

While most of the standard items are included on the yacht Décor is not usually one of them. Most yachts do have standard centerpieces they include but as far as the little customized decorations these are not included. The yachts are all modernized so when you do a site visit you may decide you do not need to many decorations. We have created a checklist for miscellaneous ceremony and reception décor you may want to add on.

Ceremony Décor

  • Welcome Sign
  • Aisle Runner
  • Ceremony Arch
  • Aisle Decorations
  • Order of Service Display

Dinner Table Décor

  • Centerpieces
  • Table Numbers
  • Seating Chart or Escort Cards
  • Chargers (can be rented through one of our vendors)
  • Sweetheart Table Decor

Reception Décor

  • Wedding Favor Display (depending on what you are gifting these can be placed at each table)
  • Photo Booth and Props
  • Cake Topper
  • Quote Signs
  • Personal Photos or Memories

PARTY RENTALS

We try to stay away from party rentals as much as possible unless it is for rented linen colors. All yachts come with standard items that are included so you do not need to worry about supplying the basics; Chairs, tables, linens, napkins, silverware, glasses, etc.

There have been times where a bride wants to have different chairs for the reception or rented linens and we have made this happen. We only use a few trusted party rental vendors who we can arrange these details with and have them deliver these items directly to the yacht!

Marriage License and Name Change Checklist

Marriage license.

To make your wedding official you must have a marriage license that is signed by a witness and notarized. Couples wishing to be married in the state of Florida must obtain a license. Those visiting from out of state and getting married here can get a license the same day of the wedding. If you are a Florida resident there is a 3-day waiting period unless you have taken premarital counseling. Once you have the license you have up to 60 days to get married. A marriage license can be obtained from any count in Florida and may be used to be married in any county within Florida.

NAME CHANGE CHECKLIST

After getting married one of the first things that should be done after your honeymoon should be changing your last name. The moment you have been waiting for since you got engaged! We have listed a few key must do’s that require immediate name change.

  • Social Security Administration
  • Department of Motor Vehicles
  • United States Postal Service
  • Bank Accounts
  • Work (W-2 & W-4)
  • Doctors' Offices
  • Social Media
  • Memberships
  • Subscriptions

You may find a few more items that need to be changed but these should be at the top of your list!

PROUD TO OFFER SAME SEX WEDDINGS

We at Boat Miami are so proud to offer Same Sex Weddings. There is nothing different about planning a same sex wedding other than you have two brides or two grooms. We make it easy on you by helping you choose the best yacht for your wedding day. We love weddings and will customize and adapt to meet the needs of our clients.

Not too long ago a same-sex wedding was in a niche market but now we are ecstatic to be able to accommodate all LGBT wedding requests. Recently many gay and lesbian couples have realized that what they want in a wedding matches what heterosexual couples might want- a beautiful venue, nice flowers, tasteful food, and wanting their families involved.

Same-sex couples don’t want to seek someone out who just serves gay clients, most often these planners haven’t planned many gay weddings and they do not know how to really react.

We want to help you create the wedding of your dreams on the water!

Now most wedding websites offer products and services including gay and straight couples and this is especially true on the boats. A boat or a yacht wedding is perfect for same sex couples and has been the “norm” for quite some time.

Yacht Wedding FAQs

With every wedding venue there are always Frequently asked questions we get. Now some of these have been covered already in this guide but we have provided a list of the most frequently asked questions we get on a daily basis.

Will I Get Sea Sick?

Our choice of yachts are all Coast Guard Certified and are “purpose built” to be stable for events. These yachts only cruise on the protected waters of The Intra Coastal and Biscayne Bay. The water is shallow and protected all the time.

Are the Boats Child Friendly?

Yes, the boats are child friendly, but the crew are not baby sitters. It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure their child is supervised. On all the yachts we can hire a babysitter or add an extra crew member to leave the parents free to enjoy the event for additional costs.

Is There Enough Time?

The average charter length is 4 hours with 3 hours being the minimum. In all cases we can add extra time by the hour if requested. For example, we have found that 5 hours is the better choice for a wedding with ceremony while corporate events can be done easily in 3 – 4 hours.

How much time before an event can we set up?

Amount of time will be determined on the day of the event but there is always enough time allocated. Generally, for weddings we can arrange up to 2 hours if need be.

What is the quality of the food?

Each of the yachts that we work with have a qualified Chef on board and all foods with the exception of breads and pastries are cooked on board. All the yachts we use have a first-class galleys (kitchen).

Can we use an outside caterer?

All the yachts that we suggest have a qualified Chef and do not encourage outside catering unless there is a religious reason and the Chef cannot comply. In all cases where it is allowed there is a fee added to cover loss of food revenue. But it is possible.

What about outside vendors like DJ or Live Bands?

Yes, these vendors can be used. Each yacht requires an outside vendor fee for use of your own Entertainment. In all cases the vendor must carry Liability Insurance.

Is the Boat Spacious Enough?

We will only suggest yachts that have enough seating in the dining salon for all guests. In the event that you are having a more casual event we will suggest yachts with enough decks and outdoor space for your size of group.

Is the Boat Handicap Friendly?

Some yachts do have an elevator between decks that can be used for handicapped guests and elderly guests. In some cases, the crew can assist in getting handicapped guests on and off boats. Each situation will be analyzed for the correct procedure and to determine if this will work.

What if Someone Needs to Leave the Boat?

This situation depends on the reason. If there is an emergency of any kind the yacht can be boarded by medical personnel brought out and guests can be removed if needed. If it is just a case of someone wanting to leave because they “have had enough” then that is not possible. Once the boat leaves the dock your guests remain onboard until the boat returns to the dock.

What if it rains?

All yachts operate in rain. All the yachts we suggest for your event will have ample space inside if the weather does not cooperate. Rain will not stop a charter unless however there is a named storm.

What if there is Mechanical Breakdown?

Very unlikely to happen as all the yachts we suggest are maintained regularly and undergo Coast Guard certification ever year. But to be sure all yachts cruise with an Engineer onboard.

Can you do Reception Only on the Yachts?

Yes. All pricing is the same except there is no ceremony set up fee.

Is there a Rehearsal?

Rehearsals can be arranged at the discretion of each yacht and will depend on each yacht’s schedule. However, as yacht weddings are so well coordinated a rehearsal may not be needed as there is a coordinator with you the day of.

Do I need a wedding coordinator?

On most yachts there is an onboard coordinator who comes with the package at no extra fee. This can save a lot of money, as yacht weddings are so well organized an outside coordinator is definitely not needed. Save your money on this!

Is the Champagne Toast Included?

In all estimates we give on any of the yachts, the Champagne Toast is included and, in many cases, there is no fee for this when you are adding a full bar.

Are There any Hotels in the Area?

There are many hotels close to all the yacht locations. We will be happy to recommend any to you and help you with block bookings if needed.

Is a Guest List Required?

No it is not required but is a “nice to have” as a guest manifest for the crew. As guests board they will be counted so that crew can log the actual number of adults and children onboard, counting the guests as they board is a Coast Guard requirement to ensure we are not over the maximum capacity.

Are Gifts Allowed on the Yachts?

Yes and a table can be set up for this on all yachts

How Will my Guests know How to Get to the Yacht on my Wedding Day?

We will give you the address of the dock where your yacht will be waiting.

Do you Offer a Sit-Down Option?

Yes, all yachts can offer a sit-down option

Are you Able to Accommodate a Few Vegetarian Meals?

Yes, most menus have vegan options, but full vegetarian meal requests can be accommodated.

What is Allowed Regarding Decorations?

Each yacht has different regulations but, on all yachts, there can be no open flames; nothing can be glued to the walls or ceilings and nothing can be used that will permanently mark the yacht. Once you have chosen your yacht we can discuss decorations but as the yachts are so nicely decorated, unlike a wedding hall, you will need minimum decorations.

What do the Linens Entail?

Each yacht comes with standard linens and napkins in either white or cream and any other colors can be rented. The yachts do not come with chair covers but these can be rented.

What is the Deposit?

On most of the yachts it is either 25% or 50% of the grand total on your estimate. These are non-refundable.

How Does the Payment Work?

Each yacht has different requirements and this something that will be noted on the contract, generally about 15 to 30 days before your charter date.

Do I Have to Make an Appointment to Reserve my Date?

You do not, we usually communicate by email, we will send you the contract and this can be returned signed and with a deposit to confirm your date.

Are Photographers included?

No but we do have suggested photographers we can send to you

What is the Basic Floral Package?

Generally the flowers are at the client’s discretion and are done by a local florist. There are exceptions where we can have the yacht add center pieces to the invoice but that is not typical.

Can I Have My Own Minister Perform My Wedding Ceremony?

Yes. Most yachts include an officiant, but you are more than welcome to provide your own

How Long is the Ceremony?

As long or as short as you want it to be, this is up to you.

Guide to Planning Your Wedding on a Luxury Superyacht

Posted September 27, 2021 in Lifestyle by Ashleigh King

Picture this: It’s game time. Hair done…makeup perfect…train delicately trailing behind. To your right, the white-glove service crew is here for your moment with platters of champagne, a three-tier wedding cake and quality tissues for the family. Up ahead stands your sweetheart, smiling at the end of the aisle to the thought of forever. Behind your love, there’s something breathtaking—something spectacular…the great blue. Your forever starts now.

A wedding is arguably the most important day of a couple’s life. With so many non-traditional options in today’s world of weddings, getting hitched aboard a yacht has a certain je ne sais quoi  that cannot be found on land. A wedding on the water combines luxury and idyllic scenery, making it a memorable experience for the happy couple and their guests. The ideal bride and groom for an open-air wedding will be flexible, positive and have a go-with-the-flow attitude. At Northrop & Johnson, our team of experienced brokers and charter specialists is dedicated to bringing your wildest dreams to fruition. Allow us to highlight the most important factors to consider when planning a bespoke, nautical wedding.

Costs to consider

It is essential to work with a knowledgeable charter broker to find the perfect type of yacht for this special occasion. The couple’s vision and budget will play a significant role in the size and style of the chosen vessel. At N&J, we are proud to offer an extensive array of exceptional yachts to choose from. For example, a week-long charter to the French Riviera or Italian Riviera in the summer aboard the 116′ (35.42m) charter yacht ALHAMBRA has a low-season rate of €49,000, plus expenses; a week-long charter to The Bahamas in the winter aboard the 146′ (44.5m) charter yacht MILESTONE has a low-season rate of $175,000, plus expenses; a week-long charter to The Bahamas or the British Virgin Islands in the winter aboard the 189′ (57.6m) superyacht W has a low-season rate of $450,000, plus expenses. The price of the charter is for the yacht itself. The charter broker will explain what is included in the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA), from food and beverage, fuel costs and dockage, to the choice of Champagne and caviar.

Destinations and EMBARK BEYOND

One of the most crucial parts of a wedding next to the venue is the time of year. Luxury yachts are available year-round in many exotic locations. The sky is the limit when booking a wedding aboard a yacht. In the summer, we recommend visiting the East and West Mediterranean — Monaco, Spain, Croatia and Greece speak for themselves —and the East Coast of the U.S. You cannot go wrong with the Caribbean, South Florida, Australia and Southeast Asia when winter rolls around. These picturesque locations are the perfect backdrop to celebrate such a monumental event. We are proud to work with EMBARK Beyond , a strategic partner that can create fantastic additions to your charter experience, whether it be a relaxing weekend or a three-week getaway. Ever wanted to try your hand behind the wheel of a Lamborghini up the coast of the French Riviera? Embark can make it happen. Another option to consider is holding a small wedding on land and honeymooning on an exotic charter with your new partner in crime.

Breaking down the Pros and Cons

Couples looking for complete flexibility and customization will thoroughly enjoy the planning process. The ease of combining the ceremony, reception and honeymoon are what sets this apart from traditional weddings. The best way to truly remember an experience like this is by capturing stunning, irreplicable photos. There is no better backdrop than the sunset over the sea aboard a magnificent superyacht, something a couple and their guests will never forget. Although most charters limit their guests onboard to 12 due to maritime regulations, this allows the couple to gather an intimate group of their most essential dozen people.

While almost every detail of this special day can be planned, some unpredictable factors must be considered. Thankfully, our N&J team has the knowledge and experience to create a seamless event for the books. Like any outdoor event, the weather is always something to keep in mind. Thankfully, the yacht’s captain and crew are prepared for any possible roadblock. The yacht’s indoor space can easily be transformed into something beautiful if need be. Timing is of utmost importance on a charter, so this must be expressed to guests who plan to attend. The legal aspect of the wedding itself can be a bit complicated with an on-the-water wedding. Each country has its own requirements for marriage, so planning and researching the destination’s laws and regulations is critical to ensure legality in the ceremony. Another option is having a civil ceremony on land before the charter to obtain a legally binding marriage license and celebrating onboard the yacht.

What is included on a yacht charter with N&J?

This is where an experienced charter broker is essential to find the best yacht to fit your needs. Today’s luxury charter yachts offer a bespoke array of features that simply are not available at other venues. Each boat is equipped with different tenders and toys. Typical amenities include on-deck Jacuzzis, onboard cinemas, gyms, full bars, skylounges for reception, beautifully designed salons perfect for photos, alfresco dining, easy water access and onboard spas, to name a few. As mentioned above, when we say intimate, we mean it. Most charters can only accommodate up to 12 guests. When dockside, more guests can be accommodated for special events (not overnight). Ask your charter broker about the possibility of a tandem charter to accommodate more guests.

Why choose N&J to charter a yacht for your wedding?

At Northrop & Johnson, our dedicated team of charter brokers is here to create a bespoke experience and put a non-conventional touch on every celebration. If a couple has a wedding planner, they can work directly with the captain and crew to ensure everyone is on the same page. These crews are specially trained to create a luxury experience for their guests. A wedding on the water is the epitome of a ‘wow factor’ event. Like with traditional wedding celebrations, there are so many options to make sure the bride, groom and guests feel taken care of on their special day. For example, the crew can arrange for a spa day aboard the yacht for the bride and her wedding party, a cigar roller for the groom and his guests or even a private tasting of Louis XIII for everyone aboard. The sky is the limit with Northrop & Johnson.

Nautical Nuptials: The Ultimate Guide to Planning Your Dream Wedding on a Luxury Yacht

yacht for a wedding

Embark on a voyage of love and luxury as we unveil the ultimate guide to planning your dream wedding on a magnificent yacht. Set against the stunning backdrop of the open sea, this nautical-inspired celebration promises an intimate and enchanting experience for you and your beloved. From selecting the perfect vessel to curating a bespoke menu and incorporating unique entertainment, our comprehensive guide will ensure your special day is a seamless blend of romance and sophistication. Let the waves of love carry you towards a truly unforgettable nuptial journey.

Choosing the Perfect Yacht

The first step in planning your dream wedding on a luxury yacht is selecting the perfect vessel for your nautical nuptials. The size of the yacht is an important consideration, as it will determine the number of guests you can invite to celebrate your special day. Whether you desire an intimate ceremony with just a few close friends and family or a grand affair with a large guest list, there is a yacht that can accommodate your needs.

Interior design plays a crucial role in creating the romantic ambiance you envision for your wedding. From sleek and modern to classic and elegant, there are yachts with a range of interior styles to suit your taste. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by exquisite décor and breathtaking views of the ocean.

When choosing a luxury yacht for your wedding, consider the amenities available. Some yachts offer spacious decks for outdoor ceremonies, while others have luxurious cabins for intimate indoor celebrations. Additionally, ensure that the yacht you select has the necessary facilities to cater to your guests, such as a fully-equipped kitchen and a bar.

Location options are another factor to consider. Whether you dream of a tropical destination wedding or a coastal celebration, luxury yachts can take you to stunning locations worldwide. From the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, the possibilities are endless.

Finally, budget considerations are essential when choosing the perfect yacht. Determine your budget beforehand and work with a reputable yacht charter company to find a vessel that meets your requirements without exceeding your financial limits.

Selecting the perfect yacht for your dream wedding is the first step towards creating unforgettable memories. Consider the yacht size, interior design, amenities available, location options, and budget considerations to ensure that your nautical nuptials are everything you’ve ever imagined and more.

Creating a Nautical-inspired Theme

To create a nautical-inspired theme for your dream wedding on a luxury yacht, you can incorporate elements such as maritime colors, seaside decor, and nautical motifs. Let’s start with nautical fashion, which can set the tone for your special day. Think about incorporating navy blue and white into your attire, with striped patterns reminiscent of the ocean. For the bride, a flowing white gown paired with a navy blue sash or nautical-inspired accessories can create a stunning look. The groom can opt for a navy blue suit with a white shirt and a striped tie for a touch of nautical charm.

When it comes to decor, DIY nautical elements can add a personal touch and save you money. Consider using rope, seashells, and anchors as centerpieces or table decor. For a whimsical touch, you can also incorporate miniature sailboats or lighthouse figurines. To set the mood, nautical themed invitations with a navy blue and white color scheme can be a great choice. The invitations can feature intricate anchor designs or wave patterns to give guests a glimpse of the nautical theme they can expect on your special day.

Finding the perfect seaside venue is crucial for a nautical-inspired wedding. Look for a luxury yacht that offers breathtaking ocean views, spacious decks, and elegant interiors. This will create a luxurious ambiance while providing a stunning backdrop for your ceremony and reception.

Lastly, don’t forget about nautical-inspired wedding favors to thank your guests for being a part of your special day. Consider giving out mini anchor keychains, personalized compasses, or even small bottles of sand and shells as a memento of your nautical-themed wedding.

Planning for Your Ceremony and Reception

When planning for your ceremony and reception on a luxury yacht, meticulous attention to detail is essential for creating an unforgettable nautical-inspired wedding experience. One of the first decisions you’ll need to make is whether to have your event outdoors or indoors. Outdoor venues offer breathtaking views of the open sea, allowing you and your guests to bask in the beauty of nature. On the other hand, indoor venues provide a more intimate setting, shielded from the elements, ensuring your special day goes smoothly regardless of the weather.

Destination weddings have become increasingly popular, and a luxury yacht offers the perfect backdrop for such a romantic affair. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by crystal-clear waters and gentle ocean breezes, while your loved ones celebrate with you in a picturesque destination of your choice.

If you’re working within a budget, don’t worry. There are budget-friendly options available for your yacht wedding. Consider opting for a smaller vessel or choosing a weekday or off-peak season for your celebration. This way, you can still have the dream wedding you’ve always wanted without breaking the bank.

To add a personal touch to your nautical wedding, consider DIY decorations. Incorporate seashells, starfish, and anchors into your centerpieces and table settings. Use marine-inspired colors such as navy blue, white, and gold to create an elegant and romantic atmosphere.

Lastly, don’t forget to honor wedding traditions and customs. Whether it’s a champagne toast, cutting the cake, or throwing the bouquet, these time-honored rituals add a touch of tradition and symbolism to your special day.

Selecting the Ideal Menu and Drinks

For a truly memorable nautical wedding on a luxury yacht, careful consideration should be given to selecting the ideal menu and drinks. To create an intimate and romantic atmosphere, customized cocktails can be crafted to reflect the couple’s personalities and preferences. These signature drinks can be inspired by the sea, incorporating flavors like fresh citrus and tropical fruits, or even infused with herbs and spices for a touch of intrigue.

When it comes to the cuisine, gourmet options are a must. The menu should be designed to tantalize the taste buds of the guests, offering a culinary experience that is both elegant and indulgent. From succulent seafood dishes to perfectly cooked prime meats, every bite should be a celebration of flavor and texture.

To further enhance the dining experience, beverage pairing is essential. A knowledgeable sommelier can assist in selecting the perfect wines to complement each course, ensuring that every sip enhances the flavors of the gourmet cuisine.

It is also important to take into consideration any dietary restrictions of the guests. Offering a variety of options for different dietary needs, such as vegetarian or gluten-free dishes, will ensure that everyone can indulge in the culinary delights.

Lastly, dessert options should not be overlooked. From decadent chocolate creations to delicate pastries, the sweet ending to the meal should be a grand finale that leaves a lasting impression.

Incorporating Unique Decor and Entertainment

The ambiance of a nautical wedding on a luxury yacht can be elevated to new heights by incorporating unique decor and entertainment. To create a truly unforgettable experience, consider incorporating innovative lighting techniques that enhance the natural beauty of the yacht and create a romantic atmosphere as the sun sets over the water. Imagine fairy lights twinkling overhead, casting a soft glow on the deck, or strategically placed lanterns illuminating the pathways.

Interactive performances can also add a touch of excitement and intimacy to your nautical wedding. Consider hiring skilled artists who can engage with your guests, such as aerial acrobats or fire dancers, who can mesmerize everyone with their awe-inspiring skills. These performers can create magical moments, leaving your guests breathless and enchanted.

Customized tablespaces can further enhance the theme of your nautical wedding. Incorporate elements like seashells, driftwood, or coral as centerpieces, and use linens and napkins in shades of blue and white to mimic the ocean’s colors. Add personalized touches, such as customized place cards or menu cards, to make each table feel special and unique.

No nautical wedding would be complete without maritime music. Consider hiring a live band or a DJ who can serenade your guests with romantic melodies and upbeat sea shanties. The sound of music floating across the water will create a magical atmosphere, making your wedding a truly memorable experience.

Finally, surprise your guests with unexpected moments throughout the event. From surprise fireworks displays to releasing lanterns into the night sky, these unexpected surprises will leave your guests in awe and create memories that will last a lifetime.

In conclusion, planning a dream wedding on a luxury yacht offers a unique and romantic experience for couples seeking an unforgettable nautical celebration. From choosing the perfect yacht to creating a nautical-inspired theme, every detail can be tailored to create a truly magical event. With careful planning and attention to detail, couples can ensure a memorable ceremony and reception, complete with an ideal menu, unique decor, and entertaining surprises. A nautical wedding on a luxury yacht is the epitome of elegance and romance on the open seas.

It’s about you and the person you love. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Things to Factor When Creating a Wedding Budget

Your budget sets the stage for every part of your wedding. When it comes time to sit down and crunch the numbers, consider these three things:

1. Determine Who is Contributing and How Much

If you have loved ones who are offering to help cover the wedding, find out how much they’re planning to spend. This goes for specifics too. If someone has offered to cover food, don’t surprise them with a bill for a four-course seated dinner after the wedding. Don’t find yourself falling in love with something you can’t afford. Get every number up front and work within your means. Consider using a wedding budget tracker to keep on track.

2. Pick Your Priorities

When it comes to your wedding, what’s the most important thing to you? Maybe you have a dream venue that you’re willing to splurge on. Or maybe you want to invest in a great photographer or videographer, so you’re willing to spend less on food. Also, what doesn’t matter to you? Are you not as concerned about having centerpieces or a live band? Knowing what matters most to you — and what you might be willing to spend more money on — will help you customize your budget to fit your needs. Don’t hesitate to choose what’s right for you – no matter what a wedding checklist, your maid of honor, or your social media feed might say.

3. Add Padding for Unseen and Unexpected Costs

No matter how much you plan or how much research you do, there will always be surprises. Our wedding planners recommend setting aside a small portion of your budget for any emergencies. This way you won’t have to scramble to find money if something happens.

Setting Your Wedding Guest List

guests

Another factor that can have a huge impact on your budget is your guest list! A common thing our wedding planners hear is how many couples are surprised by everything they must factor in when making their guest list. If you have been dreaming of a certain wedding venue, you’ll be limited by how many people it can accommodate. If your family is insisting on certain invites, that will increase the guest list. Do your guests have kids? Is it a kid-friendly wedding? Will you allow anyone to have a plus one? Would you rather have quality time with every guest of a big celebration knowing you might only see people for a few minutes?

It’s important to answer these questions as you’re making your guest list. We recommend starting with a “must have” invite list. If your family members do have people they want to invite, consider giving them a limited number of invites. If you already know you want to have an intimate wedding , consider limiting plus-ones or children under a certain age. Our wedding planners have worked with several couples who hire a babysitter or two at the hotel during the wedding.

The 3 most crucial steps for Wedding Planning on a Luxury Yacht

  • The first step should be determining what constitutes a legal marriage in your country of residence.
  • Secondly, it’s crucial to research the legalities of marriage in the country where you will charter the yacht (the country you choose to marry in), especially if one or both of the couple is non-resident. This includes paperwork required, time frames and the procedure for marrying.

For example, in France you must have a civil ceremony at the Mairie (Town Hall) first, after which you can have a religious or secular ceremony anywhere you choose. Paperwork must be translated for non-French issued documents.

  • Finally, combine the rules from both steps above to ensure whatever you plan meets all legal requirements.

Consult Your Personal Yacht Charter Broker

Choosing a charter yacht that suits your needs for your wedding can be daunting and a challenge for the unexperienced, so we strongly recommend consulting a yacht charter broker who has unrivalled knowledge about the specifications of each yacht in the charter fleet, crew insight and availability. Your broker will know which yachts will work for your wedding.

It’s important you choose a yacht charter company who is as excited about your wedding yacht charter as you are – this is your big day! If the company – and broker – are enthusiastic then they will source the perfect yacht and crew that will make your yacht wedding a memorable occasion.

A luxury yacht charter for a wedding comprises many elements beyond just food, décor, crew and a venue. Don’t hesitate to ask your yacht charter broker any questions around fuel, ports, taxes, yacht delivery fees and cancellation policies.

8 Expert Tips to Plan a Yacht Wedding

8 Expert Tips to Plan a Yacht Wedding

With over 1.1k searches across the globe for “yacht wedding”, over half (54%) of these searches are in the US alone. To help those looking to plan a wedding on a yacht, boat, or cruise, Piera Carchedia, head of Righboat’s expert content has offered her expert advice for setting sail to tie the knot.

  • Before choosing your boat consider your budget Based on the budget you have for your wedding, it may be best to look at different options, from a cruise liner with your nearest and dearest or a riverboat that can fit your close friends and family, or a large yacht to host a big wedding.

Your budget can decide whether or not you should have a wedding on the water, as it can become quite expensive very quickly. Pricing will vary greatly, depending on the size of the boat, the style, and the region where you’re booking.  Yacht, charter, and riverboat weddings tend to only require a fee for the use of the vessel. Whereas cruise ship weddings require you to pay for the cruise, along with fees specific to your wedding. Most cruise ship weddings offer different packages for the wedding ceremony and reception.

If you’re set on having a wedding on a vessel, there are ways to reduce costs such as cutting your guest list and choosing a smaller venue.

  • Think about the time, date, and location of your wedding

Weather can be one of the most important things to consider along with time, date, and location. If you are looking to tie the knot in the sunshine, planning your wedding during the peak summer season is probably the best.

It’s worth noting that weather can have a big influence on waterfronts and boating events, you probably want to try and avoid choppy waters or you and your guests might get seasick! If you’re uncertain about the best time to plan your wedding, consult the venue you are looking to book, or even better talk to the yacht, cruise, or riverboat team.

  • Check legalities and state laws

We recommend you check your state laws to whether or not you can get married at sea, there are two main options when having a yacht wedding. You can either get married on land and have an informal ceremony on board, or be carried out at sea.

Getting married at sea means you won’t have a legally binding marriage license, we recommend having a civil ceremony at home, then having your celebratory ceremony in your boat rental and destination of choice. With that said getting married on land, doesn’t necessarily mean “land”, you can still have your wedding ceremony aboard a vessel, as long as it’s docked in a port. You will, however, need to follow the port's requirements for such a wedding. If you really want to get married at sea, it may be possible to obtain your legally binding marriage license at your destination. Although, it’s probably not ideal since you’ll still need to have it recognized by your local government.

It’s worth noting for a yacht wedding, you should find a captain and a boat that is legally allowed to officiate your onboard wedding. Whilst not forgetting to check your local laws to make sure that a wedding on a boat will be legally recognized when you’re on dry land.

  • Plan your romantic route

So you’ve picked your venue, the time, date, and location you plan to get married. Next, you should consider whether you want the boat to just sail out into the ocean or if there’s a preferred route of scenic views. The venue you have chosen will most likely be the main decider of the route you can have, as most cruise ship routes are already planned out!

  • Experienced event planners are a must

We highly recommend working with an event planner if you have chosen to plan your wedding on a yacht, charter, or riverboat, as these vessels tend to be privately hired. A wedding or event planner who has experience in organizing an on-water wedding will know the best caterers and entertainments you can hire and accommodate for you.

  • Consider your entertainment and activity options

Whether you are planning on having a band play live music or a DJ at your wedding reception, when booking your entertainment it is important to remember that they will need to be on board the vessel before you set sail. This may cut down a long list of entertainment options for you, so be mindful of this when planning.

However, if you are planning a cruise ship wedding, most cruise packages come with an onboard entertainment option, saving you the hassle of contacting numerous entertainment acts!

  • Plan the perfect decor Like with most weddings, you need to decide on a theme for your yacht wedding and plan your decor accordingly. Make sure your decor complements the yacht's interior and exterior. Consider adding flowers, lighting, and other decorations to enhance the ambiance.
  • Don’t forget about catering

Work with a catering company that is experienced in yacht weddings. Make sure the menus fit the style and theme of your wedding. Consider the size of the galley and the kitchen facilities of the yacht when planning

What You Need to Know About Hosting a Fabulous Boat Wedding

Celebrate love on the open seas by hosting a boat wedding your loved ones won't forget. If you melt at the sight of stunning views, love the sound of crashing waves, and have a soft spot for an ocean breeze, a wedding on the water could be exactly what you're looking for. Whether you're hosting an intimate ceremony on a sailboat or a grand event on a luxury yacht, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning a boat wedding. We spoke to Annie Lee, principal planner at Daughter of Design and founder of Plannie.com , to get all the details you need to know about hosting your wedding on a boat. The wedding planning expert , who boasts more than 17 years of experience, opens up about everything you need to know for the perfect wedding on a boat.

In this story:

How to Plan a Boat Wedding

Boat wedding ideas, boat wedding venues.

Planning a boat wedding isn't quite the same as hosting your celebration at a traditional venue. There are several things to consider if you decide to host your ceremony or reception on the water.

1. Decorating Your Boat Wedding Venue

Most wedding venues have rules about decorating, but boats have a lot more. On a boat, a lot of the furniture is bolted down. This means you aren't able to rearrange the layout, including the reception tables. Also, choose decor items that are stable and not prone to falling over. "Obviously, you're on the water, so just keep in mind when you decorate that things may sway or there might be a lot of wind," Lee said. "So, no push-over bud vase arrangements."

2. Follow the Captain's Rules

Boat rules depend on if you're chartering a commercial vessel or a private yacht. Check with the captain to find out which rules apply to your venue. This can include whether or not guests must take off their shoes upon entry, your guest count maximum (including your staff too), types and colors of food, and more.

3. Make Sure Your Ceremony is Legal

Ensure your ceremony is legally binding by checking several factors. If the boat is registered in a country different from your own, you may be beholden to that country's laws. Different laws could apply if you're in international waters or a specific jurisdiction. "It's best to talk to your captain about the location of the ceremony and the boat's registration to determine how to make it legal," Lee said. Also, keep in mind that a boat captain can't marry you unless they are also recognized officiants. If you want to hold your ceremony on a boat, but are worried about legality, you have the option to marry legally in your hometown, then hold a symbolic ceremony during your boat wedding.

4. Have Flexibility with Your Pick-Up Location

Where your boat departs matters, especially when it comes to cost. If you've chosen a private charter, where the boat picks you up can determine the cost of taxes on the rental, which can be several thousand dollars. "Check the jurisdiction's tax rate and see if there is a lower option nearby where you can start your charter," Lee said. "One time we were able to save several tens of thousands by simply changing the pickup spot!"

5. Mind Mother Nature

A wedding on a boat surrounded by nature provides a backdrop like no other. However, keep in mind that you're nature's guest, and you have to be ready for any mood she may have on the day of your wedding. This could include rain, wind and strong currents. The current also determines your scenery for the day, and there isn't much you can do to change it. "Like when I asked the captain if we can point the bow towards the ocean rather than land for a better backdrop for the ceremony, his facial expression said it all – like I asked him to move the sun a little to the left, " Lee said. "It doesn't work that way."

6. Unique Circumstances

A boat wedding includes a few unique circumstances different from a traditional venue on land. If you're planning to set sail during your event instead of staying at the marina, it's important that guests arrive on time and don't need to leave early. Once you leave, everyone is along for the ride until the conclusion of the event. It's also a good idea to have motion sickness remedies on board in case the water's current makes your guests a little queasy. When you plan out your dinner menu, also keep in mind that storage and kitchen space can be limited, depending on the size of the boat.

Find your kind of venue

Find inspiration from ocean waves and beach days for your boat wedding decor and color scheme. Include a few subtle touches, or fully lean into a nautical-themed wedding.

The Complete Breakdown of Yacht Rental Costs for Your Wedding

Getting married on a luxurious, multi-level yacht as it cruises along the sparkling open waters is certainly a dream come true. But before you set sail into a yacht wedding, it’s key to understand the complex costs associated with renting the perfect boat to host your big day.

A beautiful yacht wedding venue - Explore the cost in our guide

Factors That Determine Yacht Rental Rates

Several key factors play into the base price you’ll pay to rent a yacht for your wedding:

  • Yacht size  – Larger boats that can accommodate more guests typically cost more. Small yachts for 50 guests may rent for $2,000 – $5,000 while large, multi-level yachts for 150+ can cost $10,000 – $30,000+.
  • Guest capacity  – Even if you don’t max out the guest list, the boat’s total capacity – not your guest count – determines the rental rate.
  • Amenities  – More features like multiple decks, staterooms, luxury interiors, and upgraded AV equipment can increase rental fees.
  • Reputation  – Well-known luxury yacht companies can demand higher prices than smaller, more modest vendors.
  • Location  – Rental costs are often higher in popular, high-demand locations like Miami and the Mediterranean.

How Season Impacts Yacht Rental Pricing

Due to supply and demand, the time of year you plan your yacht wedding greatly affects potential rental fees. Here’s how seasonality impacts costs:

  • Peak Season  – Late spring to early fall when the weather is ideal. Expect peak pricing.
  • Off-Season  – Early spring and late fall have more budget-friendly pricing. Limited vendor availability.
  • Winter  – Aside from tropical destinations, winter yacht rentals see the lowest pricing. Weather risks.

Ideal Cost-Saving Seasons: Early Fall, Late Spring

Estimated Price Ranges for Yacht Rentals

To help set cost expectations, here are typical yacht rental rates for weddings:

These figures provide a baseline, but the final costs depend on your exact parameters, location, and the amenities needed for your vision.

Additional Yacht Rental Fees to Budget For

Beyond the base rental rate, hosts should budget for these additional yacht-related costs:

  • Fuel Costs  – For cruising yachts, fuel is billed separately at $50 – $500+ per hour underway.
  • Docking Fees  – If using a marina, daily mooring and usage fees apply. Often $500 – $1000+.
  • Crew Fees  – Crew costs like tips, meals, and transport are typically 15% – 20% of the base rental rate.
  • Taxes & Surcharges  – Expect to pay sales tax, port charges, and other fees that can add 10% or more to costs.

Key Takeaway: Carefully account for all the factors that drive yacht rental costs before setting your wedding budget. While the base fee is substantial, all the extras can ultimately impact your bottom line.

When requesting quotes for yacht rentals, be sure to ask providers how much their boat costs specifically for hosting a wedding. This allows you to compare apples-to-apples pricing and get accurate estimates for how much a yacht wedding will cost.

For smaller guest counts under 50 people, more intimate train station weddings can also be an option to consider instead of a pricier yacht venue.

Food and Drink Costs for a Yacht Wedding: Catering, Alcohol, and More

After securing the perfect luxury yacht venue, one of the biggest expenses for your wedding will be the food and beverages. From cocktail-hour bites to plated dinners, you’ll need to budget accordingly for all refreshments onboard.

Catering Costs Per Person

Most yacht venues require you to use their preferred caterers or select from an approved list. Here are typical per-person costs:

  • Cocktail Reception  – $15 – $25 per guest
  • Plated Dinner  – $100 – $250 per guest
  • Family-Style Dinner  – $80 – $150 per guest
  • Buffet Dinner  – $60 – $100 per guest
  • Food Stations  – $100 – $200 per guest

Costs vary based on menu complexity, cuisine types, ingredients, culinary staffing needs, and service style.

Food and Drink Costs for a Yacht Wedding

Common Yacht Wedding Menu Options

Popular cuisine options include:

  • Seafood – crab cakes, shrimp, lobster, ceviche, salmon
  • Pasta – penne, ravioli, tortellini, gnocchi
  • Poultry – chicken, duck, quail
  • Beef – filet mignon, sirloin, wagyu
  • Pork – stuffed chops, glazed ham
  • Vegetarian – grilled veggies, ravioli, eggplant

Catering costs per person are similar to other premiere venues like island destinations or castles , but yacht menus tend to emphasize fresher seafood.

Bar Service Costs and Considerations

Alcohol represents a significant portion of your food and beverage expenses. Here are factors that impact costs:

  • Open Bar vs Cash Bar  – Open bars are pricier but more guest-friendly. Cash bars pass costs to guests.
  • Premium Alcohol Upcharges  – Top-shelf liquor can add $10 – $25 per person versus well options.
  • Beer and Wine Only  – Limiting to beer and wine instead of full cocktails can save 30%.
  • Drink Minimums  – Some yachts charge per-person minimums, like $15/person for the first hour.
  • Bartender Fees  – Often $150 – $250 per bartender for a 5 hour event.

Other Food and Drink Expenses

Remember to budget for:

  • Wedding cake – $500+
  • Dessert buffet – $8-$15 per person
  • Champagne toast – $4-$8 per-glass
  • Late-night snacks – $7-$10 per person

Bottom Line: Plan for $200+ per guest for food and drinks on a luxury yacht to cover everything from appetizers to that last drink.

Transforming Your Yacht into a Wedding Venue: Rentals and Decor Costs

While a luxury yacht makes a beautiful wedding venue as is, most couples want to elevate the existing space with rentals and decor. From lighting to centerpieces, here’s what to budget.

Rental Costs for Yacht Weddings

Lighting – String lights, lanterns, drapery, lighting for the dancefloor. $2,000-$5,000

Lounge Furniture – Chaises, couches, ottomans, and coffee tables. $1,500-$3,000

Tables and Chairs – For reception seating, typically $10-$25 per chair and $25-$100 per table.

Dance Floor – Wood or acrylic flooring sections. $1,000-$2,500

Bars – For multiple drink stations. $500-$1,500 each

Audio-Visual – Sound system, TV/screen, projector, microphones. $2,000-$5,000

Restrooms – If more needed than yacht has onboard. $1,500-$3,000

Power – For catering, lighting, music, etc. Generator fees often apply. $1,000-$2,000

Couples celebrating on a yacht - Explore yacht wedding costs

Key Decor Elements to Budget for

Floral – Bouquets, ceremony arch, reception centerpieces. $3,000+

Signage – Welcome, directional, menu, bar signs. $500-$1,500

Backdrops – Photo booth, head table, cake table. $500-$2,000

Draping – Ceiling, wall, aisle, and chair fabrics. $1,000-$5,000

Table Decor – Linens, chargers, overlays, runners, candles. $20-$50 per table

When Renting, Remember:

  • Delivery, setup and pickup fees often apply.
  • If moving locations, all items must be secured.
  • Rentals take up deck space – measure carefully!
  • Simpler is better – let the yacht shine.

Budget 15-20% of your total wedding costs for elevating your yacht with rentals and decor. Lighting and florals make the biggest impact!

Capturing the Big Day: Entertainment and Photography Costs for a Yacht Wedding

You found the perfect luxury yacht venue. The decor and florals are set. Now it’s time to capture the memories by booking entertainment and photography. Here’s what to expect price-wise:

Music and Dancing Cost Considerations

DJ – $1,500-$3,500 The most budget-friendly option for providing an evening of music and emcee duties.

Live Band – $3,500-$15,000 A 3-6 piece band brings an elevated experience but significantly higher costs.

Strings – $3,000-$6,000 A quartet or trio provides ceremony and cocktail hour elegance.

Soloist – $1,500-$3,000 Harpist, guitarist,t or vocalist for ceremony or first dance.

When budgeting, consider travel fees, timing, power needs, staging, and equipment involved.

Photography Costs for a Yacht Wedding

Capturing the Ceremony and Reception

Photographer – $3,000-$10,000 Photography is one of the biggest wedding investments. Price reflects experience, time commitment, and rights to images.

Videographer – $2,500-$7,500 Cinematic highlight films have risen in popularity. Multi-camera footage costs more.

Photo Booth – $800-$1,500 Provide fun guest memories in an onboard photo booth.

Don’t forget to budget for catering, transport, and accommodations if your wedding pros travel.

Extra Entertainment Atmosphere

Live Painter – $500-$1,500 Artist captures the essence of your day on canvas.

Caricaturist – $400-$800 Sketches quirky drawings of guests.

Fireworks – $5,000+ Light up the night sky with a fireworks display (permit dependent).

Acrobats/Dancers – $3,000+ Provide “wow” entertainment during cocktail hour or reception.

Takeaway: Budget approximately 10% of your total wedding costs on entertaining and documenting your luxury yacht nuptials via music, photography, and more.

Keeping Guests Informed: Wedding Stationery & Paper Costs for Yacht Weddings

From save-the-dates to invitations, programs, and signage, stationery and paper goods are key components of your luxury yacht wedding. Here’s what to budget:

Save-the-Dates and Wedding Invitations

Give guests advance notice and set the tone with:

  • Save-the-Date Cards  – $150 to $300 for 50 guests.
  • Invitations and RSVP Cards  – $400 to $1,000+ for 50 guests.

Factors like premium papers, multiple enclosures, complex designs, and custom calligraphy drive up costs.

Wedding Invitations

Additional Printed Items Costs

For a 50-person wedding, budget $1,000+ for all paper elements.

Working With Your Stationer

  • Order save-the-dates 8-10 months in advance and invitations 6 months out.
  • Provide stationer with yacht venue photos/logo for inspiration.
  • Consider digitally RSVPing via wedding website to save money.
  • Simplify designs to essential text; less is more.
  • Proof carefully! Names must be spelled correctly.

Keep guests informed in style by allocating 5-10% of your total wedding budget to stationery.

If you want to lower the costs of a yacht wedding, one strategy is reducing the guest count. Because yacht pricing is often based on capacity, reducing attendees can directly impact how much your yacht wedding will cost overall.

Don’t Go Overboard! Budgeting for Yacht Wedding Planning and Coordination

A yacht wedding involves intricately coordinating vendors, rentals, decor, and more across land and sea. Professional planning helps ensure smooth sailing. Here’s what to budget for assistance.

Wedding Planner Costs

Full-service planners typically charge 10-15% of your total wedding costs. For a $100,000 wedding, you’ll pay $10,000 – $15,000 for an experienced planner familiar with yacht venues.

Partial planning ranges from $2,000-$6,000 for help with vendor research, selection, and management.

Hourly rates of $100-$250 apply for limited consultation.

Wedding Planner Costs

Day-of Wedding Coordination

If you handle upfront planning but want assistance executing your vision on the big day, day-of coordinators range from $1,500-$3,000.

Coordinators manage vendor setup, keep events on time, assist guests, and handle any on-site hiccups.

Assistant coordinators are often $50-$75 per hour.

Factors That Increase Planning Costs

  • Large guest list
  • Multiple events – welcome dinner, day-after brunch
  • Sailing itinerary with frequent location changes
  • Highly complex design or vision
  • Extensive rentals and décor

Ways to Reduce Planning Costs

  • Seek new coordinators building their portfolio.
  • Handle planning yourself and use limited hourly help.
  • Ask the caterer if they include coordination services.
  • See if yacht staff can assist with oversight.

While wedding planners represent another expense, they are instrumental in executing a smooth, flawless event and preventing costly mistakes, especially for yacht weddings involving extensive logistics. Budget accordingly.

You’ve likely accounted for the big-budget items like venue, catering, and entertainment. But don’t forget the numerous smaller wedding costs that add up.

Yacht Wedding Costs: Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Wondering if that yacht wedding is within budget? Here we answer the most common questions couples have about pricing for tying the knot on the water.

How much does it cost to rent a yacht for a wedding?

The cost to rent a yacht for a wedding can range from $2,000 to $30,000+ per day depending on the size of the yacht, guest count, location, season, and amenities. Be prepared for sticker shock!

What is included in yacht rental costs?

The base yacht rental fee often includes the venue, basic furniture, some audio-visual equipment, and service from the crew. Additional costs like catering, rentals, fuel, fees, and crew tips are usually not included.

How many guests can a yacht accommodate?

Yacht guest capacity can range from less than 50 up to 250+ guests for large, multi-level vessels. Matching the boat size to your guest count is key – renting too large or too small a yacht can impact pricing.

What other fees go into a yacht wedding budget?

Beyond the base rental rate, key elements to budget for include food, beverages, rentals, decor, photography, entertainment, stationery, wedding planner fees, licenses, attire, crew gratuities, and insurance. It adds up fast!

Can I get a discount on a yacht rental for a wedding?

You may be able to get a small discount by booking an off-peak date or selecting a lower-demand port. However, due to high demand, most yacht venues do not offer wedding discounts. Manage costs with guest count and inclusions instead.

How can I save money on my yacht wedding?

Optimize the guest list, choose buffet catering, limit bar service, select simple flowers and decor, avoid premium dates, and minimize additional events like welcome dinners. Get quotes first and stick to a realistic budget.

The key is understanding your priorities and total cost considerations, then budgeting smartly to create the gorgeous yacht wedding of your dreams without going overboard on spending. Let us know if you have any other questions!

11 Myths About a Wedding on a Yacht

When it comes to a wedding on a yacht , one of the key reasons people adore this luxury experience is its unparalleled ease. Planning a wedding can be a stressful endeavor, but choosing a yacht wedding offers the advantage of having an in-house event team entirely devoted to making your special day exceptional.

Imagine having your own dedicated wedding dream team , ready to handle logistics, menu planning, brainstorming unique touches, and flawlessly executing your vision down to the finest details (edible flowers in your signature cocktail? Absolutely achievable!).

Weddings on a yacht are our most sought-after events, and as such, they tend to generate numerous inquiries and misconceptions. Let’s debunk the top ten myths we frequently encounter!

Myth #1: My Guests Will Get Seasick

Experience worry-free cruising on our yachts in the serene and sheltered waters of Marina del Rey. Because we stay in the harbor, there are no waves. The risk of getting seasick is highly unlikely. We’ve been cruising the Marina waters for 41 years and have yet to see a guest get motion sickness. You can sit back and enjoy your time without fear of getting sick.

Myth #2: No Man Left Behind

People are often worried that because our yachts have a departure time, there is a chance one of their guests will run late and miss the boat…literally. Rest assured, that we are committed to ensuring that doesn’t happen!

Our dedicated team offers expert recommendations for timing, ensuring a seamless experience. Moreover, we maintain open lines of communication to warmly welcome and accommodate every guest on board.

Myth #3: No Place for the Bride to Prepare

Couples are pleased to learn that each of our yachts has its own dedicated bridal suite (our yachts are full of pleasant surprises!).This dedicated space offers privacy for last-minute touch-ups, dress primping, and indulging in champagne as the bride prepares to gracefully walk down the aisle. It also serves as a serene sanctuary for couples to steal a moment of tranquility amidst the festivities. Additionally, it provides a convenient spot for brides to change into a stunning reception dress, if desired.

Myth #4: Limited Capability

Getting married on a yacht doesn’t mean you’re limited on space. In fact, our yachts offer abundant room for your imagination to flourish! Picture our yachts as expansive blank canvases that transform into enchanting settings for each unique wedding celebration.

With multiple floors encompassing sky decks and inviting lounge areas, these spaces become exclusively yours to craft the perfect ambiance. We have witnessed and executed a wide range of extraordinary events in these versatile spaces, and we’re ready to bring your creative vision to life.

Myth #5: Yachts are Expensive

Consider a wedding yacht rental to be a venue just like renting indoor space at a hotel or estate – but way better! We take pride in creating life’s special moments and are honored to do so.

Myth #6: The Wedding Ceremony Will be an Afterthought

Some mistakenly believe that a yacht wedding diminishes the focus on the bride and groom due to the novelty of having a wedding ceremony on a yacht. Not true! If anything, a yacht wedding creates a unique backdrop for an intimate event. Surrounded by the breathtaking views of Marina del Rey and your guests, the yacht setting amplifies the uniqueness and significance of your union, ensuring an extraordinary celebration – just ask a yacht wedding specialist .

Myth #7: No Religious Ceremonies on a Yacht

No matter your religious preferences, we can accommodate any type of ceremony on our yachts. Alternatively, our captains are ordained to perform wedding ceremonies on any of our yachts.

Myth #8: Yacht Clothing Required

There is no special dress code for a yacht wedding other than what is dictated by the wedding couple i.e. formal vs. informal. You dress for a yacht wedding just as you would dress for a wedding on land.

Sometimes people believe they need to dress extra warm because they are on the water. There is generous interior space on the yacht where the wedding is hosted if you get chilly.

Also, no need to wear a life vest. We have them available for emergencies.

Myth #9: Children Can’t Attend

If the bride and groom are comfortable with having children attend the wedding then they are welcomed! We have no age restrictions.

Bridal Bliss: Singers Vedo And Shanice's Valentine's Day Wedding Took Place On A Mega Yacht In Miami

Bridal Bliss: Singers Vedo And Shanice's Valentine's Day Wedding Took Place On A Mega Yacht In Miami

A wedding on a mega yacht ? Sounds about right for “You Got It” singer and songwriter Vedo and his CEO bride, Shanice , also a singer-songwriter. But long before they said “I do” in grand fashion on a holiday all about love, the two were meeting as young dreamers in 2011. They encountered one another at a music event and had a brief conversation, but didn’t end up exchanging numbers. That should have been it. But as fate would have it, they ran into each other again at another event a short time later, and took it as a sign from the universe that they needed to get to know each other better. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

“I knew Vedo was the one instantly,” Shanice tells ESSENCE. “He treated me like a lady at such a young age. I was very impressed. He stimulated me mentally. He was so gentle, respectful, and accepted me and my family although we aren’t perfect.”

Vedo wasn’t looking for his person at that time, but he knew he’d found her when he got to know Shanice.

“I honestly didn’t know what to look for in a person who could possibly be ‘the one.’ I just knew she treated me differently from any other woman,” he recalls fondly. “She was sweet but feisty. She was stern but would bend her rules for me. She loved family, she loved my family. She was an entrepreneur at a young age, so she had drive, goals, long term and short term. She was just an overall dope person. I knew a long time ago. She knew what she deserved and until I was able to provide that, I dared not. Now we are here.”

The crooner, a consummate performer who finished in the top 12 during Season 4 of The Voice (he was on Team Usher and recently flexed his talents with the legend during his NPR Tiny Desk Concert ), asked for Shanice’s hand in the only way he knows how — in front of an audience. He proposed at the grand opening of her beauty spa Solé Aesthetics in Atlanta.

“He got me good,” she says. “I was so caught up on planning the grand opening that it was so unexpected when he popped the question.”

From there, the couple planned the ultimate celebration, opting to tie the knot on the day of love, Feb. 14, 2024, on a mega yacht in Miami that they decked out in red and white florals and matching decor. The couple exchanged vows in front of some high-profile guests, all dressed in white, on the waters of Magic City. “We go all out for our birthdays, vacations, our friends, why not go all the way and do it big for our wedding day?” Shanice asks.

And with three outfit changes for the bride (and a major hair switch), a few big performances and 150 guests celebrating with them, “big” is the right word for their magical moment.

Scroll through to check out some of the stunning images, shot by photog Stanley Babb , from their day, and learn more about how it came together in a beautiful way in this week’s Bridal Bliss .

A shot of Shanice’s pre-wedding robe, along with her bridal gown (front and center) and her red hot reception dress. Once the celebration began, she wore three different outfits, including a show-stopping look (not pictured) to perform for her new hubby. More on that later!

For the couple’s ceremony, they asked that guests not use it as an opportunity to be amateur photographers, and instead, be “fully present” for their special moment. It was an unplugged wedding but phones were allowed at the reception and right after the pair said “I do.”

No one was more touched by Shanice’s beautiful entrance than her husband-to-be. “She looked beautiful, she looked happy, she looked free, and she looked at ease,” he tells us. “Those are some of the feelings that I want her to feel forever.”

The space where the dinner part of the reception was held within the Seafair was decked out in the color scheme of red and white (with some pink, too). “It was only right on Valentine’s Day. It represents romance, passion and fire, of which we exude them all,” Shanice says.

While outfit changes are common, it’s not as common to see a bride change their hairstyle on their big day. Call Shanice a trendsetter. “The hair was definitely a wow factor for everyone,” she says of heading into the reception post-ceremony and portraits with big curls after starting the day with a pixie-esque cut. “I love a good switch-up, and besides that, I absolutely love drama!”

When it comes to their favorite moments from the day, for Vedo, it was “Me putting on that ring, saying my vows and making this union official under God.” For Shanice, it was also the ceremony. When it finally was done I felt so damn good,” she says. “I was ready to take on the rest of the night as a new wife!”
