Designed by renowned yacht designer Carl Schumacher and built to the highest standards of sailing yacht construction, Impulsive will take you comfortably across any ocean. Her solid fiberglass construction offers the displacement required to give the yacht an easy and forgiving motion but her lines and parameters define that performance… long waterline, moderate beam, high righting moment, proper weight distribution and efficient foils. An elegant hand-crafted interior, semi-raised salon that fills the cabin with natural light, comfortable accommodations and superb load carrying capability will ensure your comfort whether you plan to head out for an evening sail or a long offshore passage.
Impulsive is impressively outfitted with all the gear and equipment needed for extended blue water voyaging. Two notable features are the stainless steel stern arch and custom hard dodger. The interior is crafted from Makore; an African cherry. Two heads and a centerline queen in the master stateroom make this a comfortable home at anchor and in port.
Equipment highlights:
Hydrovane self-steering windvane
Nextgen 5.5 kw genset
Lifeline 1050 amp hour AGM battery bank
AB Lamina RIB and Yamaha outboard
Cruise RO 30 GPH watermaker
Icom M802 SSB with Pactor modem
Webasto hydronic heat
Recent Raymarine radar/chartplotter and sailing instruments
A full inventory of offshore spares and safety gear
Impulsive cruised the US East Coast and Bahamas with her first owner. In 2013 she was purchased in Florida and trucked to Seattle. A custom hard dodger and extensive updates were made to prepare Impulsive for an extended South Pacific cruise, which was unfortunately cut short by owners health issues. Impulsive’s current owners purchased her in 2018 and have lightly used her in the Pacific Northwest, making valuable upgrades such as Webasto hydronic diesel heating and a full Raymarine electronics package.
Interior Accommodations
Beautifully handcrafted in Makore (African Cherry), with teak and holly cabin sole and Corian countertops, the interior of Impulsive is both practical for offshore use and comfortable for entertaining guests at anchor. With her partly raised salon and large ports, accommodations will be filled with natural light, excellent ventilation, and good proximity to those on watch or relaxing in the cockpit. All hatches in the teak and holly cabin sole are locking, and drawers and louvered cabinet doors have positive pushbutton latches to keep gear in place. Opening ports and hatches provide excellent ventilation. There are plenty of handholds to ease movement through the cabin when the seas kick up or you’re heeling over. Overhead dome and reading lights are well-placed. Large cabin-side fixed ports are fitted with beige curtains. Smaller-opening cabin-side ports are fitted with Peek-a-boo sliding shades for privacy. Hella turbo fans are located in each cabin/space to assist with cooling. Courtesy lights illuminate the cabin sole underway at night.
The master stateroom is located forward of the main salon through a locking privacy door. Impulsive features a centerline queen-sized “island” berth that hinges up to access bin storage. Four drawers slide out from the aft end of the berth pedestal. The berth is fitted with a 12″ thick foam mattress and padded headboard on the forward bulkhead, two reading lights are mounted on the forward bulkhead. Long, closed shelves with sliding doors are outboard, up high, below the deck edge on either side of the berth. Aft to starboard a 26″ long, cedar-lined hanging locker sits below an open shelf. A hinged door cabinet with four deep shelves is just forward. To port, another matching cabinet with shelves is just forward of the ensuite head. An overhead hatch, four opening ports, two dome lights, and 110V outlet complete this stateroom.
The forward head head is entered through a privacy door in the port aft corner of the master stateroom. This space is finished white molded surfaces for easy maintenance with select teak trim around the mirror and a removable varnished teak shower grate in the sole. A Raritan manual flush head is outboard. A very clever Corian counter with 10″ round stainless steel sink slides out, over the head when needed. A medicine cabinet is located behind a mirrored door that’s angled just right for shaving. A fluorescent task light over the sink, dome light, shower hose with nozzle and bracket, 110V outlets, and towel bars, and opening port complete this space.
The main salon is a bright, comfortable living area with natural light and visibility provided by the large salon windows. A seven foot long U-shaped dinette is located to port with a straight settee to starboard. The straight settee’s backrest mid-section drops forward to become a small table; great for a game of cards or a place for drinks! The dinette is large enough to seat many guests – a must on any cruising boat. The fiddled table measures 40″ long by 31″ wide forward and 40″ wide aft. A top-opening bin for condiments is recessed into the middle of the table. Two drawers are located under the dinette ends. Book shelves with adjacent lockers are above both settees. The straight settee to starboard is fitted with a Blue Performance lee cloth making a comfortable sea berth. Storage bins outboard of the settee cushions and bin storage under the dinette cushions nicely store months of provisions. Aft of the starboard settee, a tall, open bookshelf sits atop a slide-out twelve bottle spirits locker. Three dome lights, four reading lights, two cabin fans, an overhead hatch, and flat screen TV complete this space.
The U-shaped galley is to port and aft of the main salon, and includes blue with white fleck Corian counters, forward facing double stainless steel sinks with single lever faucet with pull out nozzle and Force Ten three burner propane stove with oven and broiler. The sinks measure 9″ x 13″ x 7.5″ deep and 13″ x 13″ x 7.5″ deep. A microwave locker with roll top door is above the stove. The top-loading freezer/refrigeration boxes are equipped with a reliable refrigeration system. Henderson fresh and salt water foot pumps augment the pressure hot and cold water system. There is plenty of space for storage of ship’s stores, dishes, cutlery, and pots and pans. A teak china rack is mounted above the partial forward bulkhead above a sixteen-jar teak spice rack. Impulsive ‘s galley will easily meet the needs of the most discerning chef. The space also meets the “safety at sea” requirement. When tucked into the U-section of the galley, one is not only secure but also out of the way of anything that might be launched from the stove top! Separated from the flow of traffic, the large galley still provides an excellent location for interfacing with guests either in the cockpit or at the dinette table forward.
Scandvik stainless steel double sinks: 9″ x 13″ x 7.5″ deep and 13″ x 13″ x 7.5″ deep.
Scandvik single lever faucet with pull out sprayer nozzle
Slide out trash bin under sinks
Seagull water filter with dedicated spigot at sink
Force Ten three burner stove with oven and teak butcher block cover
GE turntable microwave oven in dedicated cabinet
Fresh and salt water foot pumps with dedicated spigots at sink
Top opening 7.5 cu ft fridge and 1.7 cu ft freezer with separate refrigeration systems and Corel digital thermostats. Dome light in fridge. Gas strut holds fridge hatch open. Sliding acrylic trays keep fridge organized.
The navigation station is located aft of the galley on the port side. A comfortable upholstered, curved seat provides an excellent spot to view charts and electronics offshore or to relax and chat with the chef at anchor. The top opening 26″ wide by 28″ long chart table easily accommodates charts with a built-in cabinet forward for a radar/chart plotter. The electrical panel is outboard of the helm seat and the Raymarine chartplotter and Icom VHF and SSB radios are mounted forward above the nav table. A flex arm spotlight lights up the table at night and drawers and lockers below the nav table and seat provide excellent storage for additional tools. A deep catch all bin is outboard of the chart table.
The aft head to starboard of the galley is finished in molded white gel coat surfaces that are both easy to clean and bright. Located near the companionway, the head compartment is a perfect place to shed salty foul weather gear before entering the main cabin. The separate enclosed shower is located forward of the head. A seat and double locker are located outboard and a teak grate covers the shower sole. Just aft, the head is laid out with Corian countertop and a stainless steel sink outboard along the hull side. A teak-trimmed, mirrored sliding door locker is located behind the counter and additional storage is available in a locker under the sink. The head is a electric flush Tecma. A fan, two towel bars, coat hook, dome light, over counter light, cowl vent, and 110V outlet complete this space.
The enclosed aft aft stateroom is to starboard of the companionway and features a comfortable double berth measuring 79″ long by 53″ wide forward and 36″ wide aft. A divided 6″ thick foam mattress lifts up to access aft storage bins, watermaker membranes, and hot water heater. Two drawers are below the bunk forward. Louvered lockers are above and outboard of the berth with additional storage in cabinets along the aft bulkhead. There is a large hanging locker and book shelves. Two ports open into the cockpit providing excellent ventilation. An overhead hatch, cabin side opening port, and 110V outlet are also fitted.
Impulsive ‘s technical room aft and to port of the engine compartment is any sailor’s dream come true. There is a work bench with shelves, lockers and drawers outboard and plenty of space for the generator and watermaker inboard under the cockpit sole. The cockpit lazarette opens into the mechanical room allowing one to stand while working and the steering quadrant is accessed through a hatch in the aft bulkhead. The companionway ladder lifts easily on gas springs to provide access to the front end of the engine compartment which is sound insulated. Removable panels on either side further access the engine. While there’s plenty of room for all the equipment that makes for comfortable cruising, there’s also ample space and access available to easily service these systems.

Deck and Hull
The Outbound 44’s hull is 100% hand laid fiberglass. The outer three layers were done with vinylester resin for blister resistance. In addition to the vinylester resin, the bottom has an epoxy non-permeable barrier coat. Knytex bi-axial cloth was used in the layup for added impact resistance. Additional reinforcement was added to bottom, turn of bilge and bow as well. While in the mold, heavy duty fiberglass longitudinal/floor/mast step/engine bed grids were glassed directly into the hull. All athwartships stringers, bulkheads, and furniture are glassed and securely bonded to the hull while still in the mold. Hull and keel were molded in a single lamination. The encapsulated keel then had a 3500 pound bulb bolted to it (10,000 pound total ballast) for high righting moment. Three layers of glass cover the bolted on lead bulb. The deck was laid up and vacuumed bagged with Baltek Balsa core. Contrasting nonskid is molded-in and aluminum toe rail caps the hull to deck joint. High density foam is used in areas where there are deck penetrations (ie. chain plates, cleats, etc.). There is a solid watertight bulkhead 7’ from the bow for added safety.
The deck layout is ergonomically sound with unobstructed pathways from stem to stern. The cockpit seats are long enough to lay down on. Crew can position feet on the opposite settees when sailing to windward. The high coaming seatbacks add safety and are angled properly for comfortable use while underway. The helm seat lifts for a walkthrough transom, with dedicated liferaft locker beneath. There are four dorade vents, eight hatches, and ten ports for excellent ventilation below. The dodger, bimini and infill offer protection from the elements and are in excellent condition. The pulpits and stanchions are 30” high. The stern pulpit is 1.25” stainless and wraps the entire stern to the amidships lifeline gates. Stanchions are also 1.25” in diameter. There are four large Wichard folding pad eyes in cockpit for harness attachment. Stainless steel grab rails are mounted on the cabin top; all within continuous reach. Impulsive is a very well thought out performance cruiser and ready for offshore use. Excellent deck-accessed storage is found in the huge “climb-in” bow locker, starboard quarter locker, and port cockpit settee locker.
Impulsive is fitted with a custom stern arch/davit by Kato Marine of Annapolis. Fabricated from 1.5″ diameter stainless steel tubing with polished welds and well radiused bends this stern arch matches the beautiful factory stainless steel handrails and pulpits. The radar and other antennas are top mounted on this davit. A floodlight shines on the transom and cockpit. Dinghy davits and outboard lifting tackle are hung beneath the arch.
Knowing that shelter means comfort and safety, the Impulsive ‘s owners had a custom hard cockpit dodger designed and fabricated in 2014 by Northwest Fiberglass in Seattle. This well-conceived hard dodger is fitted with three opening and two fixed aluminum framed Diamond Sea Glaze windows, handrails on top, and inside and out aft vertical edges. Two red/white dome lights turn on/off by touch. The hard dodger carries aft fully 30″ over the seats to provide superb protection for crew on each side. A blue canvas bimini covers the aft cockpit and a “see through” zippered Polycarbonate Makrolon panel connects the hard dodger and bimini . The bimini and connector were built in 2014 by Breezy Canvas in Seattle.

Two new vessels — a luxury yacht and a tall ship — hope to get noticed along St. Petersburg's waterfront
- Waveney Ann Moore Former Times Reporter
ST. PETERSBURG — Sweeping vistas of waterways edged with miles of public parkland and bustling sidewalks helped entice the owner of a charter yacht company to set course for St. Petersburg.
"St. Pete has grown so much and is so vibrant compared to 25 years ago," said Capt. Steven Siegel, who steers the 128-foot luxury yacht Sir Winston and is a graduate of Lakewood High School.
That's why he convinced his boss to make port in St. Petersburg.
"We see an opportunity to both serve the area and have a nice big yacht here," Siegel said.
So far, the benefits haven't been quite what had been hoped for. Neither the Sir Winston nor the tall ship Lynx is as visible along the city's waterfront as the vessels' owners would like.
Tucked away at the city's downtown port, the Sir Winston sits largely out of sight to the clientele the company seeks for its excursions into Tampa Bay, $100-a-head weddings and corporate events.
Last week, the four-deck, 128-foot yacht ferried dozens of the nation's mayors on a breakfast sightseeing cruise. That's just one of several events the vessel has hosted since arriving in April, but Siegel wants more.
He wants better visibility for his yacht and for him that requires a berth on prime downtown waterfront, near the site of the new Pier, the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort, restaurants and museums.
Like the Sir Winston , the Lynx also seeks more exposure and would like to move from the Harborage Marina. The tall ship from Nantucket is a replica of an 1812 Baltimore Clipper schooner that took part in the War of 1812. Built in 2001, it's now a floating museum that offers educational programs and hosts events.
The Lynx and its supporters are asking for $65,000 in city funds so it can dock in the North Yacht Basin next to the recently launched Cross Bay Ferry. The city money, which would be used for permits, a gangway, sidewalks and fencing, would be matched by local businesses. A floating dock from Harborage Marina will be refurbished by Marinetek and a power pedestal from E&P Industries will provide power to the tall ship.
St. Petersburg City Council member Ed Montanari took the request for funds to his colleagues last week. If approved, it could also mean good news for the Sir Winston . Siegel hopes to get to share the tall ship's floating dock. For now, the yacht sails into the North Yacht Basin to pick up passengers.
A recent trial run that had it dock beside the St. Petersburg Museum of History displeased a descendant of W. L. Straub, who bought the Tampa Bay Times back when it was called the St. Petersburg Times in 1901 and pushed to preserve the city's waterfront for public use. Now North and South Straub Park are named for him.
"I was shocked to learn that the Sir Winston dinner cruise ship (a for-profit dinner cruise ship) had a 'test' dock this past week right in front of our museum …," Lucas DeVicente wrote in a letter to Mayor Rick Kriesman and the City Council.

"As you can see in the attached photos, it is essentially a wall that blocks our magnificent views of the waterfront and downtown. My great-great grandfather Straub fought to protect the waterfront and its views accessible to all, and to have a dedicated port for ships like this. It would be much better off at the Port of St. Petersburg," wrote DeVicente, who also is vice president of the museum's executive committee.
Siegel said the Sir Winston is just looking for a good port to call home.
"We were over there at the request of the city to stop at different locations to see where would be a viable location …where the vessel would fit," Siegel said. "We want nothing but to be a good partner with the city."
Besides a lack of visibility at the city's port, Siegel also said it's difficult for passengers to get on and off at that point. On Monday, Siegel had to help a Times reporter to step down into the 370-passenger yacht and climb up to disembark.
It's unclear how the Lynx , the Cross Bay Ferry — a pilot project connecting downtown St. Petersburg to downtown Tampa — and the Sir Winston will fit into the city's new Pier District plans.
"We are very excited with the interest and the activities that these vessels bring to downtown St. Pete," said Alan DeLisle, the city's development administrator.
"We have not figured it out yet. We are exploring all the options with how this will work with all the vessels. At the same time, the decision about locating the vessels will require Council approval and Army Corps of Engineers approval."
Meanwhile, the city is asking for input from residents about what they want at the municipal marina, which encompasses the North, Central and South yacht basins. A draft of a master plan is expected to be finished in early in 2017. The multimillion-dollar renovation will begin in the Central Basin — its facilities were built in 1963 and are the oldest — and will allow the marina to accommodate larger, more modern boats, said marina and port manager Walter Miller.
The goal is to begin construction in the summer of 2019, he said. The Pier District is expected to be complete by late 2018. Whether the Central Yacht Basin will be a viable place for vessels like the Lynx and the Sir Winston is not yet known. But the Sir Winston, which relocated from Fort Lauderdale, definitely wants a permanent home.
"We are exploring a lot of different ideas," DeLisle said. "We had to get the ferry in place and we did. We're working on the Lynx now."

- FloridaMJZ 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great evening cruise We went not having high expectations regarding the cruise and the meals. Well....weather was bad so the cruise stayed on inland waterways and of course there was no sun due to the clouds. Not their fault. That said....the meal was way better than we expected as was the service and the DJ. The food, service and DJ/music were all much more than we expected. Well definitely recommend this cruise and we'll do it again our next time down in Clearwater. Read more Written February 15, 2024
