Captain Joe is the best! This is the 3rd time we went out with him. This time we took my husband's siblings through the gorge. Captain Joe showed us the cliffs and sea lion rock. It was gorgeous! He is so knowledgeable and fun! He is also super flexible and will work with the needs of your group. Highly recommend! Will definitely go out with him again. Thanks Captain Joe!
Monica July, 2023
Joe is awesome! My husband and I took my parents and our 4 and 1 year old on a 4 hour charter into the gorge. Joe was extremely knowledgeable about the Columbia as well as the area in general. We stopped at a beach recommended by Joe and it was the most fun we have had since moving to Camas! My husband misplaced his phone and Joe was so kind he went over time for us so he could take us back to one of our earlier stops to look all around for the phone. The pontoon is in perfect condition and very clean. We plan to book him again in the future. Would highly recommend!

I highly recommend sailing with Sean! He is not only a professional captain with years of experience but he has a great personality to make your sailing trip enjoyable. He made sure everyone onboard was safe and having a great time throughout our trip. I will definitely book his boat in the future.
nicole July, 2021
Captain Shane is fantastic! I booked hoping for an escape on the water from the record temps in Portland this week... maybe find a swim spot, cool off, eat snacks celebrate and enjoy the sun. The weather however had a different plan, clouds rolled in and temperatures dropped. Captain Shane really saved the day. He is fun, knowledgeable, silly and completely dedicated to making sure you have a great time. Thank you!

A great trip! Hit with some unexpected summer rain causing some high tides and worry from the owner but he was quick to reach out, offered alternative options, and everyone I spoke to was very kind. the boat was in great condition was an amazing trip first person I thought of when my friends asked for a part 2! I'll be booking again soon! :)

Floating Hot Tubs Offer Novel Way to Get Out on the Willamette River
By Sam Stites April 26, 2023 Published in the Summer 2023 issue of Portland Monthly
Yacht Tubs gives Portlanders a novel way to get out on the Willamette River without having to own a boat or get into the river itself.
Image: courtesy Yacht Tubs
When Alex Reed was growing up, he remembers seeing images of celebrities hot-tubbing on the front of their megayachts in posh locations like off the southern coast of France.
“They look like they had no care in the world. It looked awesome,” he says. “But I was short about $100 million to afford one.”
As an adult, Reed thought about how he might replicate that same experience and sense of relaxation but bring it to the everyday person here in Portland. That led him to create Yacht Tubs—boats that have been converted into six-person hot tubs you can rent along Portland’s South Waterfront .
Reed says he enjoyed sailing on the Willamette River as a kid and noticed that options for the average person to get on the water are slim. He wanted to change that, but also infuse a bit of luxury.
His company, Yacht Tubs , builds its own boats right here in Portland. They look like small wake boats that sit super low in the water. Instead of regular seating, passengers soak in a jetted hot tub with plenty of space for six to stretch out. Their under-10-horsepower electric outboard motors are nearly silent, and they allow any guest age 21 and up to drive without needing a boater’s license. That means you can move up and down the Willamette to see the sights while relaxing and enjoying a snack or beverage. Instead of steering wheels, the boats have a joystick-like controller and throttle that are easy to use for those who haven’t driven a boat before.
They even have Bimini tops for shade from the sun or cover when it’s raining, as well as built-in stereos so guests can bump their own tunes.
“People have the biggest hurdle of getting over what it is. They understand a hot tub, they understand a boat, but the combination of the two, of being in water, on water, I think is kind of a new experience,” Reed says. “People have discovered us and just been absolutely amazed and astounded about why they have not seen this or done it earlier.”
The company started rentals in summer 2021 and currently operates two boats out of its “Yacht Club” storefront based on S Montgomery Street, just a couple of doors down from McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside restaurant. The club was recently renovated to include 1,500 square feet of nautical-themed space where customers can lounge, change into their swimsuits, rent towels, and purchase add-ons like Epsom salts and nonalcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks are allowed; just make sure your captain doesn’t drink any booze (that’s illegal), and don’t bring any glass containers.
Yacht Tubs is in the process of adding more boats as summer approaches and bookings fill up, particularly around holiday weekends and big events like the Rose Festival and the Waterfront Blues Fest.
Reed says the service is also gaining popularity in what might be considered boating’s offseason, especially for events like the Christmas Ships in December. Tub temps are adjustable, allowing guests to go warmer in the cold, or down to pool temperature in the summer when it’s hot. That said, for the full south-of-France yacht fantasy, setting sail on a sunny summer day is hard to beat.

Zora Forsberg was crowned Thursday as Cleveland High School’s representative on the 2024 Portland Rose Festival Court .
The Cleveland junior plans to pursue a career in clinical psychology and become a therapist. At Cleveland, she has participated in the school’s Black Student Union and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Rose Festival Court announcements began March 5. The additional members of the court so far are:
- Heleen RedBird of Roosevelt High School
- Julia Dixon of Franklin High School
- Mackenzie Devereux of Ida B. Wells
- Jayda Jackson of Central Catholic
- Cadence Wooden, representing Metro East
- Amelia Godard, representing Metro West
- Isabelle Muresan of Lincoln High School
- Daniela Gray of Grant High School
In all, 15 students from Portland-area high schools will serve on the court. Each will receive a $3,500 scholarship courtesy of The Randall Group and one-on-one mentorship arranged by Unitus Community Credit Union.
Announcements continue Friday at Parkrose High School, and conclude March 22, when the Benson High School court member will be announced. The 2024 Queen of Rosaria will be crowned June 7.
The Rose Festival kicks off with fireworks and City Fair’s opening May 24 and culminating with the Grand Floral Parade on June 8.
Read more about Princess Zora Forsberg, as told to the Portland Rose Festival.
Career plans: I would like to get a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and become a therapist.
High school activities and honors: Co-chair of Cleveland’s Black Student Union, Mentoring IB French SL 7-8, National Honors Society, Medal of Functional Fluency in French.
Hobbies and special interests: I like to do a lot of crafts, usually knitting or crocheting, and a lot of reading (mostly magical realism/sci-fi). I also like to go on walks and explore the wooded areas of Portland. And, as of recently, I have painted murals. All of them are very meditative for me, and I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment and connection with life that they bring.
What are you most proud of during your high school career? I am most proud of the Black History Month assembly we put on last year. It was the first one back from quarantine, and the pressure was on, but we made a really wonderful assembly on the importance of jazz in Black culture with guests like Mel Brown, and we got to highlight local Black-owned businesses like Third Eye Books. It was really incredible to be able to go on a stage and tell everyone about my culture, to put on a program that people really liked, and to have supported the community in the process.
What is your favorite Rose Festival event and why? My favorite Rose Festival Event is the Milk Carton Boat Race. It’s very nostalgic for me and I love to see everyone’s boats and how creative they get with them. I love the sense of community it brings, and how joyful and happy everyone is.
