What is a Gulet?
A Gulet is a traditional Turkish wooden sailing yacht that is designed explicitly for cruising along the beautiful Turkish coast. These vessels are known for their elegant design, spacious interiors, and comfortable accommodations. Gulets typically range in size from 15 to 40 meters and can accommodate anywhere from 6 to 20 passengers.
Gulets are built with a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern amenities, offering a perfect blend of authenticity and comfort. Each Gulet is unique in terms of design and layout. Still, they generally feature cosy cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious deck for sunbathing and dining, and a fully equipped kitchen where the onboard chef prepares delicious meals.
The beauty of a gulet lies in its ability to provide an intimate and personalized cruising experience. Unlike larger cruise ships, gulets can access smaller and more secluded bays and coves, allowing passengers to explore hidden gems inaccessible to other vessels. With their friendly and experienced crew, gulets offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making you feel at home throughout your journey.

"The Semerciouglu4 is stunning. I had seen the online video but pictures and videos cannot do it justice. This boat is huge but still beautiful and elegant. The deck spaces are very big and the cabins to, with excellent on-suite facilities. Showers great. Semercioglu is the family name of Mehmet, the owner who is the Captain. He and his SIC, Serkan, are very proud of their boat and rightly so. They and the rest of the crew made me feel most welcome and at home. I look forward to meeting them again. Food onboard was lovely, even though this was the first week working on a boat for otherwise experienced chef, Ahmet. Mehmet's daughter, Eda, was charming. I arrived at Fethiye with time to look at all the other Gulets there and at the time did not see one to match it. Highly recommended it".(I have never bothered writing a review before but felt this deserved it)"
Mr Fred Shiress - 12th May 2018
"Firstly I want to thank Diamond Sky Holidays for the smooth running of the trip, everything was booked and worked perfectly on time. We had an amazing time on the boat, I have never been so relaxed on holiday from the not wearing any shoes all week to the comfort of the rooms saying nothing of the food that was cooked by a very special chef"

A Turkish gulet cruise is a truly unique way of spending your holidays
You can charter a luxury gulet cruise along the amazing coast of Turkey away from large crowds and overpopulated beaches.
- But how do you book?
- Where to start?
- What to book?
- And how much will this cost you?
How to book?
We will help people find the best Turkish gulet according to their wishes and your group's structure.
And in Turkey, we take special care of the food organization, where our destination manager personally goes to the marketplace and pickups up the fresh ingredients you want. She then creates your menus.
Also, we will create a tailor-made itinerary, with the best route and activities for your group.
Where can you start your Turkish gulet cruise?
You have several possibilities:
1. You can fly to Bodrum (Milas) airport and start the Turkish gulet cruise from Bodrum, which is one of the best places to start. Bodrum has the largest fleet of DELUXE and LUXURY gulets for charter and the level of services are at the highest level there. 2. You can also fly to Dalaman airport and this gives you 3 different choices where you can start the Turkish gulet cruise:
Gocek Harbor
Gocek Harbor can be the first option. This is laid ”marina town” and is the home of some of the most amazing vessels you can find in Turkey. Gocek is also closest to Dalaman airport (only 30 minutes drive by car).
Marmaris town
Marmaris town is the second option. The transfer from the airport is a bit longer (around 1,5 – 2 hours) and it offers a different concept from Gocek. While Gocek is more of laid back place, Marmaris is famous for its amazing Bar street, it is a bit more busy town with lots of restaurants and a very nice castle overlooking the city.
Last but not least, Fethiye is a very nice option also. Same as Marmaris it is a bigger town with lots of different gulet rental possibilities to choose from. You will need around 1 or 1,5 hours to get there from Dalaman airport.

Gulet cruise introduction.
A gulet cruise from either Bodrum or Marmaris is a great combination of sightseeing, swimming and, of course, cruising along one of the Mediterraneans most beautiful coastlines. Youll see picturesque coves and magnificent scenery and enjoy snorkelling, sunbathing and complete relaxation. Simple pleasures, no stress or strain and, above all, a wonderful feeling of getting away from it all. You can also combine a weeks gulet cruise with a week at one of JetSuns hotels.
Why Choose a Gulet Cruise?
The ultimate get-away-from-it-all holiday, a gulet cruise is a great way to explore Turkeys fabulous, Mediterranean coastline and enjoy the freedom and total relaxation which only an informal cruise can offer. As the gulets are small compared with large, ocean-going cruise ships, its the perfect holiday to make friends and enjoy the pleasures which only a small cruiser can offer.
Best Time to Travel
Any time between May and October is a good time to take a gulet cruise although in early and late season there are fewer cruises taking place so the bays are more deserted, the ancient sites less crowded and, of course, its not as hot as July or August. Days are longer in May and June and the sea is warmer in September and October.
The crew comprises the captain and, usually, a cook and a deckhand. There are up to 8 small but comfortable double cabins, all with private sh/wc. Theres a sunbathing area with sun mattresses, a saloon / bar, a shaded afterdeck for meals and drinks, a music system, a galley, snorkels & flippers and a tender-boat. Please note on air conditioned Gulets the air conditioning operates at certain times only.
The Itinerary (from Bodrum or Marmaris)
There is no fixed itinerary and no two days are the same but a typical day will start with breakfast followed by a couple of hours cruising before dropping anchor in a bay for swimming, snorkelling and lunch. In the afternoon youll cruise again for a couple of hours and then stay the night either in a quiet bay or close to a harbour with, perhaps, the opportunity of going ashore. The cruise itinerary is always dependent on weather and operational conditions and is always subject to the captains approval.
Eating & Drinking
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the price and all meals are taken on the shaded afterdeck. Its simple but delicious cuisine and, unsurprisingly, always tastes better in the open air. Drinks are not included but can be purchased on board (theres usually a slate system whereby you pay for all drinks at the end of the cruise).
Shore excursions are organised by the captain and crew and are payable locally. They might include a visit to an ancient site or maybe a village to see some typical local life or even a trip to a larger town or resort for some retail therapy. Evening BBQs are also very popular
Night Life & Shopping
The only chance there is to enjoy a little nightlife will be at the beginning or end of the Gulet Cruise in either Bodrum or Marmaris. The same will apply to shopping although there is sometimes the opportunity to visit a small town during the cruise which may have a few shops or a market to browse around.

Day 1: Bodrum
Transfer to the lively and historic Bodrum marina and board your luxurious gulet in the afternoon. Your captain and crew will be waiting to welcome you on board. Spend the first night on board in Bodrum marina or a nearby bay.
Day 2: Cati
Depart from Bodrum for the Gulf of Gokova, a stretch of the Aegean where the sea displays the most remarkable hues of blue. The rugged coastline with its myriad small bays and harbours gives way to a stunning backdrop of pine-clad hills and mountains. Continue your gulet charter and cruise onto Cati Bay where we will spend the rest of the day, relaxing. Cati is a beautiful natural harbour surrounded by pine trees, fantastic for swimming and walks through the scented pine forests.
Day 3: Seven Islands – Kufre Bay
After breakfast, we set sail to explore Yedi Adalar (Seven Islands), a chain fringed by coral reefs, of six large and many small islands. Each island has its own natural beauty, including beaches, pine forests, and beautiful Styrax (or Sorax, sweet gum, liquid-amber) trees, which are native to this region, and have provided resin to make perfumes and incense since ancient times. The locals extract the sap from the sweet gum trees to produce Storax, which is used for medicinal purposes.
There are many secluded beaches and coves here where you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling. Overnight in the Seven Islands region will be Kufre Bay.
Day 4: Cleopatra Island – English Harbour
After breakfast continue on your gulet cruise to Cleopatra Island, site of the reputed love-nest created by Mark Anthony for the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. Here you can find extensive archaeological remains scattered along one of Turkey’s most breathtaking golden beaches.
Day 5: Longoz Bay – Ballisu – Tuzla
Set sail for the Longoz Bay, where the forest touches the water’s edge and offers some lovely hiking opportunities. In the early evening drop anchor in Tuzla for overnight, after a stop for swimming in Ballisu. Ballisu (meaning ‘honey water’) is another site of incredible natural beauty that will take your breath away.
Day 6: Cokertme
Cruise on your gulet holiday, to the picturesque fishing village of Cokertme, nestling in the foothills of the Kiran Mountains. Here you can hike through the village’s winding pathways, some of them not much more than a goat path and explore this amazing region. (Optional): A short sail south will bring you to the intriguing village of Oren. If the sea is calm, you can drop anchor at the sea wall and either walk about a mile or take a minibus up to the old village. Here you will find villagers living amongst the ruins of ancient Keramos. If you explore the various footpaths, you will eventually come across an ornately carved temple doorway (now part of a barn wall), the remains of a Byzantine church at the bottom of a garden complete with a clearly visible fresco, and the remains of a Roman bath complex.
Day 7: Kisebuku – Bodrum
This morning cruise along the scenic Gokova shores to the pine-clad Bay of Kisebuku. Opt for a stop at Orak Island. In the afternoon, sail into Bodrum harbour. Cosmopolitan Bodrum, with its variety of delightful restaurants, popular night clubs, upmarket boutiques and international marinas attracts many visitors.
Take the opportunity to visit the historical side of this resort, the 15th century Crusader castle, containing the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, exhibits ancient shipwrecks raised off the coast of Turkey, and a preserved Carian princess’ tomb dating to the time of Alexander the Great. The remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassos, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is located nearby.

Type of Boat: Luxury Gulet Duration: 7 Nights – 8 Days Route: Bodrum - Northern Greek Islands – Bodrum Departure Day: Saturdays Embarkation: Bodrum Embarkation Time: 15:30 Disembarkation: Bodrum Disembarkation Time: Before 09:30 a.m. after breakfast
Your gulet cruise starts in the bustling resort town of Bodrum. Your captain and crew will be waiting to welcome you on board in Bodrum Harbour. Spend the first night on board in Bodrum harbour, or if all the guests have arrived then your gulet can depart for Kalymnos straightaway.
Day 2: Kalymnos
After passing through customs in Bodrum and we depart for Kalymnos. Before arriving to the harbour of Kalymnos, anchor in the hidden natural harbour of Vathi, which is the most fertile spot of the island. The lovely houses in the village of Rina trickle down the slopes of two hills, while a small part of the settlement lies in the verdant valley that extends to the fishing village and the natural fjord-like gulf beyond. The charming village fringed with citrus orchards boasts one main street and a scattering of houses; an unexpected patch of lush vegetation on an otherwise dry and arid-looking island. Vathi is the only place on the island that is lucky enough to have its own spring water supply, and here it is used carefully to cultivate citrus fruits, figs, grapes and anything else that can be persuaded to grow!
This deep blue inlet is also home to a cluster of picturesque church remains dating from the early Byzantine period to the more recent past, which can be accessed after a short walk. We stop here for lunch on board, and for swimming and snorkelling in the most incredible waters. You can even try some rock climbing here. Before watching the sunset with cocktails on deck and stepping on shore to dine at one of the 2 tiny tavernas in Vathi where the octopus is a must-try!
Day 3: Telendos – Patmos
On the way to Patmos your yacht will visit the islet of Telendos, which is located 700 meters from Kalymnos. Until 535 CE this tiny island was actually part of Kalymnos until an earthquake separated the two. It is a lovely quiet spot with no roads and no cars; just warm and genuine Greek hospitality. A strip of tavernas offering fabulous views back to the escarpment of Kalymnos itself lines the waterfront, and the tiny village has a paved and shady main street which soon leads you to a couple of lovely beaches on the west side of the island.
Away from crowds, Telendos is a haven for soaking up some quiet time, as well as another hotspot for climbing. Spend the day lazing in the sun, walk along the sea front in the shade of the tamarisk trees, and swim or snorkel in crystal clear waters from your gulet yacht in one of the small secluded coves dotted around the island. The On the Rock establishment on Telendos offers a choice of incredibly tasty Greek signature dishes including freshly caught fish, octopus and moussaka, which taste even better from this fantastic location by the sea. Don’t miss sampling a few from the extensive cocktail and Greek beer menu.
From here, sail to Patmos and dock in the main port of Skala. Patmos’ breathtaking scenery and special atmosphere have made it an ideal getaway for those seeking inspiration or a quiet retreat. The island is built around the important Monastery of St. John and its medieval fortress, which is visible from nearly everywhere on the island, and stands overlooking Chora as a reminder of Patmos’ historical and spiritual significance. St. John is said to have penned the Book of Revelations and the Apocalypse here on Patmos. The monastery houses some spectacular frescoes and a museum well worth visiting. The smaller monastery of the Apocalypse halfway down the hill from Chora, grew up around the grotto where the Evangelist is said to have heard the voice of God.
Day 4: Lipsi
Wake up to the sunshine, have a relaxing breakfast on board and then spend the morning exploring Lipsi. Perhaps head out and cruise to one of the untouched bays or sandy beaches along the coast for swimming and relaxing on board.
The virgin nature, crystal clear waters, beaches and the relaxing atmosphere of Lipsi Island attract tourists looking for total seclusion and privacy. This is a frequent destination among naturists and hikers, as many beaches can only be reached on foot or by boat. A fortress crowns the uppermost peak of the island, and in the scattering of small tavernas and cafes below you will find local delicacies like the traditional thyme honey, wine, cheese and grapes.
There are so many small churches in the island that it is said there is 1 church for each family in Lipsi. Panaghia tou Harou architecturally has a local feel, Byzantine in perception yet austere and unpretentious. As yet unexcavated, the church was built sometime between the 7th and 8th Century CE. The holy icon of the Virgin here, holding Jesus crucified, is reputed to be of miraculous powers. The uniqueness of the concept and the skill of the rendition make this icon one of the brightest moments in hagiography.
Now to Lipsi’s beautiful beaches! Lientou is by far the most popular and located in town. Venture a little further and discover the Kampos, Platys Yialos – a delightful sandy strip of land stretching out to sea, and the exceptionally stunning sandy beach of Papandria in the south facing the island of Leros. Chochlakoura beach is loved for its pebbles, flat rocks and scenic caves, while Tourkomnima, Xirokampos, Monodendri and Kamares are all remote beaches of wild beauty, and definitely worth the expedition to visit.
Day 5: Leros
Cruise to the small island of Leros, the island of Diana, Goddess of Hunting. This is an island of small fertile valleys sandwiched between rolling green hills, deep coves and pretty beaches. Depending on the winds, dock in the harbor of Agia Marina or the more secluded bay of Panteli.
Pandeli is the oldest fishing village in Leros, where most of the residents are still in the fishing trade, and located in the island’s most picturesque spot surrounded by enchanting landscapes of green trees, steep mountains and excellent coves.
The small settlement is built amphitheatrically around the natural bay and joins with Platanos, the quaint harbor of Agia Marina, which has selective local shops located in old traditional buildings that sell antiques and crafts. The town of Alinda is also gorgeous with its attractive pebble beach and hip beach clubs. These waterfront towns hold most cultural interest, with their neoclassical buildings and pleasant village atmosphere.
Leros has a magnificent crusader castle or better known as Kastro, It is a strong medieval fortress presiding over the villages of Pandeli and Agai Marina, with spectacular views of the mountainous landscape and the sea. It is a rigorous uphill climb from either village, but once at the top it is truly picturesque and a lovely walk back down directly into either village. The island is a paradise for foodies with a rich culinary heritage, featuring many unique Lerian specialties. You can find the best combination of the local and fusion cuisine, witnessed by the seaside El Greco Restaurant on the Panteli beach. Make sure to try the tuna carpaccio and phyllo bread stuffed with soft goat cheese.
The patisserie-cafe To Paradosiako, meaning ‘The Traditional’ in Greek, is in Agia Marina’s harbor, has a lovely setting on the water and offers some of the most delicious and creative treats you can find. With contemporary and spiced up traditional flavors, you will be spoilt for choice with what’s on offer here.
After dinner Leros comes alive in bars and nightclubs that feature local Bouzouki as well as contemporary music, warm hospitality and a laid-back ambience, which is at its best in Panteli and Agia Marina.
Day 6: Turgutreis – Orak Island
From here cross back into Turkish waters and from Turgutreis, sail south to into the Gulf of Gokova, a stunning stretch of the Aegean where the sea displays its most remarkable hues. The rugged coastline with its myriad small bays and harbors gives way to a lush backdrop of pine-clad hills and mountains. Drop anchor near Orak Island, one of the Gulf’s large islands, and this one known for its rich sea life and crystal clear water, a perfect site for snorkelling.
Day 7: Kisebuku Bay (Or Ciftlik Bay)
This morning cruise to the gorgeous Bay of Kisebuku. Take advantage of the calm midday hours, sailing smoothly along the Gokova shores. Afternoon come into the Bodrum harbour.
Your gulet trip comes to an end with precious memories. Disembarkation by 09:30 after breakfast.
INCLUDED IN THE PRICE • All meals on board, soft drinks and wine during dinner service (other alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the onboard bar) • All charter & berth taxes, harbour & port procedures • Transit log & related formalities for the shipping agents • Mooring expenses • Crew service • Clean bed linen, bath and beach towels • Use of equipment on board (Flippers, snorkel and fishing tackle etc.) • Yacht insurance (We advise you to take out individual travel insurance) • Turkish V.A.T.

Day 2: Knidos – Kargi
Depart on your gulet charter and sail across the Gulf of Gokova to the ancient site of Knidos, where the Mediterranean and Aegean seas meet. Knidos is famous in antiquity for the cult of Aphrodite which originated here. The city was built on terraces rising to the acropolis, with a theatre overlooking one of the 2 harbours, temples, one dedicated to Aphrodite, a basilica and also remains of Greek and Roman houses can be seen. Later, cruise onto the beautiful bay of Kargi for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Datca – Ciftlik Bay and Bencik
Early morning we journey on to the resort of Datça, situated on the southern shore, which has a natural harbour and a promenade with restaurants and bars dotted along. Datca is renowned for its warm climate and natural beauty, a perfect spot for experiencing the rural life in Turkey. Eski (Old Town) Datca is particularly charming. After a swim stop in Ciftlik Bay you arrive in the amazing Bencik Bay. Bencik looks like a small fjord and is situated at the narrowest part of the Datca peninsula. The inlet extends inland about 1.5 nautical miles and has tree lined slopes on either side.
Day 4: Selimiye – Bozburun
Today you cruise into Selimiye Bay, one of the safest natural harbours in the Gulf of Hisarönü. Surrounded by spectacular scenery and largely unspoiled, the village of Selimiye seems as though it was frozen in time. You will have a chance to walk around the village before cruising to Bozburun, an idyllic fishing village. It used to be the centre of sponge diving along the Turkish coast, but nowadays locals here earn their living by building the typical broad-beamed wooden gulets.
Day 5: Bozukkale
Depart for the Bay of Bozukkale, which means ‘broken castle’ as one side of the castle is missing. The entrance to the bay is guarded by an ancient citadel 350 meters long and 30 meters wide. In ancient times it was known as the city of Loryma and throughout history this port was used bythe Greek navy forces during Peloponnese Sea. The Colossus, at nearby Rhodes, was built to celebrate the defeat of Antigonus’ invasion force in 305 B.C. It was in Bozukkale Bay that the invasion fleet was assembled. Hike up to the ruins for some spectacular views of the Greek Islands of Simi and Rhodes.
Day 6: Palamutbuku – Mersincik
After breakfast,we will set sail for Palamutbükü, renowned for its crystal clear waters, fresh fish and delicious locally grown almonds.. Later, cruise to Mersincik in the Gulf of Gokova, an impressive secluded bay, surrounded by high mountains and woods, with crystal clear waters making it an ideal spot to spend the night.
Day 7: Kisebuku Bay – Orak Island
Cross the Gulf of Gokova to the pine-clad Bay of Kisebuku. Take advantage of the calm morning hours sailing smoothly along the Gokova shores. Opt for a stop at Orak Island. Enter into Bodrum harbour during afternoon. Cosmopolitan Bodrum, with its variety of delightful restaurants, popular night clubs, upmarket boutiques and international marinas attracts many visitors. Had a superb cruise from Marmaris to Fethiye and back. Everyhing was a 9.5 or 10 out of 10 for me. Thank you Ahmet for putting up with my endless questions.
It was all great.
I went on the Northern Greek Islands tour. It was a beautiful holiday. The crew were very helpful and respectful. I was impressed with the teamwork. It was great to meet different people. The gulet, the facilities on the gulet and the crew were excellent. Food was very good.
It would have been good to have a mix of some single people like myself. But a beautiful holiday.
We went on the all inclusive luxury cruise from Bodrum on a gulet called Flas VII. The service we received from Gulet Escapes throughout was excellent. 10/10.
It took us a while to find our boat.
I went on the all inclusive luxury cruise with my wife and 2 kids. We were greeted with a cocktail on the first day which was a nice surprise. Our cabn was really spacious and comfy. The gulet was absolutely amazing as well. Had lots of space and water sport things and stuff. Kids really enjoyed it and spent the whole time in the water. So overall it was a great holiday!
It's a great way to see the Turkish Coastline. Amazing scenery. the best pool in the world (which you're surrounded by the whole time basically) and amazing food. Boat was comfy enough but don't expect luxury. You get what you pay for.
We had to skip a spot that I really wanted to go. It was coz of wind can't blame anyone.

Golf travel’s hidden gem—for a great golf trip consider turkey.

Turkey's Belek region combines great golf courses and luxury all-inclusive resorts with beautiful ... [+] Mediterranean coastline. This is the 36-hole Cullinan Links resort.
Last year a record number of Americans visited Turkey (or Türkiye, the new official national name). This was no coincidence.
At a time when travel to many popular destinations in Europe has become much more expensive, in some cases prohibitively so, Türkiye remains a fantastic value proposition. While prices are very affordable, the country is rich in culture, history and touristic sites, with delicious Mediterranean cuisine, and even great wines.
Türkiye is also much easier to get to than many people realize, and now even easier, with more non-stop flights from more U.S. cities than ever before. On top of that, last month (January 2024) they dropped the E-Visa requirement for North Americans, saving a step and another fifty bucks.
Türkiye's premier tournament venue, the 36-hole Antalya Golf Club, includes the PGA Sultan Course, ... [+] where Tiger Woods has played.
In a recent travel section feature titled, “Why this is the year to holiday in Turkey,” London’s Telegraph wrote , “With the country set to become Europe’s second most-popular destination this year, there’s never been a better time to visit.” They predicted 2024 will see Türkiye surpass France, behind only Spain in tourist volume. But that’s for an entire country. The Washington Post just reported that Istanbul was the world’s most visited city last year with 20 million international tourists (though the math seems fuzzy given that Las Vegas drew over 40 million, including domestic travelers). Why? The Telegraph said, “It’s easy to see why Turkey’s popularity is soaring. Not only does it have more than 4,000 miles of sun blessed Aegean and Mediterranean coastline—ideal for everything from fun-filled family beach holidays to relaxing gulet cruises—but it’s also home to a substantial number of stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Troy, Ephesus and Gobekli Tepe, as well as countless other dramatically set ancient sites. Turkey’s allure becomes even more apparent when you throw into the mix one of the world’s truly great cities, the continent-bestriding mega-city of Istanbul.”
According to the Washington Post, Istanbul was the most visited city in the world last year, and ... [+] offers some amazing sights
Viral Email Claims Gmail Will Close On August 1
New ios 17 3 update warning issued to all iphone users, apple just gave millions of samsung users a reason to buy an iphone.
It's also a very easy place to plan a golf vacation. While most countries have multiple golf destinations or regions, Turkey’s scene is remarkably condensed and almost entirely contained around Belek, in the Antalya region, the so called “Turkish Riviera,” an area rich in Mediterranean coastline, beach resorts and luxury hotels, dozens of them, many all-inclusive. It gets hot in July and August, but most people come then for the beach leaving the course empty, and you can play here all year-round. There are 14 golf courses, many by top European architects such as Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo.
After multiple enjoyable visits to Turkey over the years, I recently visited this region for a week of golf, and was quite impressed with the quality of the courses, food, lodging—and value. The Telegraph , aimed at a UK audience, reported London golf travel specialists offering weeklong stays with room, all meals, adult beverages and four rounds of golf at choice of multiple quality hotels from $1,452 per person. That’s around $200 a day all in, and that wouldn’t even pay for the greens fees at courses of this caliber at most Florida golf resorts in winter.
Meze anyone? Turkish cuisine is varied, delicious and a huge bargain!
According to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a record-breaking 1,334,337 Americans visited in 2023, a whopping 32% increase over 2022 and a staggering 131% increase over pre-Covid 2019.
Because just about everyone arrives through Istanbul, it is very easy to combine a stay exploring Europe’s largest city with golf, a short flight away. Istanbul in turn is one of the world’s most exotic cities, full of great hotels, food and a laundry list of “must see’ attractions such as the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. If you have more time you can tack on additional great regions, such as Cappadocia, famous for its otherworldly landscape, cave hotels and as the number one place in the world to go for a hot air balloon ride. The ruins of Ephesus are another major attraction, and Bodrum is one of Europe’s hottest beach resorts, at a fraction of the price of Ibiza or Cannes. But you could also go just for golf.
The Cornelia Golf Club is a high quality 27-hole course by legendary player turned designer Sir Nick ... [+] Faldo.
There is no World Top 100 course here, no famous pilgrimage designs. What you will find is a lot of high-quality resort golf on well-maintained courses, two of which are lit for night play, extremely rare on the entire planet. There are some lighted par-3 courses in the U.S., but here you can play eighteen holes on a full-size course after dinner, and you can see remarkably well. Türkiye’s night golf is better golf than night skiing is skiing. But that is most attractive in the summer months when it gets very hot, and the rest of the year you’ll more likely want to enjoy the gorgeous daytime Mediterranean climate.
It doesn’t compete with pure golf dream destinations full of Top 100 Courses such as Scotland, Ireland, Bandon Dunes or Pinehurst, but I’d compare the quality of golf in Türkiye to that of other warm weather resort golf destinations like Palm Springs, Myrtle Beach, Texas, Tucson or most of Florida (it’s actually better on average than most Florida resort courses, which tend to be very mediocre and overpriced) but with better food, better lodging and better beaches for your dollar. You also get two vacations in one, a full-blown golf trip plus a colorful international vacation, with a heavy does of exotic culture and cuisine.
Colin Montgomerie is another pro star turned architect, and his Montgomerie Course at the MAXX Royal ... [+] resort is one of the region's best.
There are about four dozen hotels in the region rated 5-Stars on the national scale, many of them very large, but I’d only consider the ones with golf courses attached, less than ten, and several with more than one course, though you will likely bop around to other properties. You certainly do not have to go all-inclusive, but I would, it’s a place where they do it very well (even the mini-bars are often included) and the food was quite good compared to many of the all-inclusive I’ve seen in Mexico and the Caribbean. Top luxury brands that usually are not all-inclusive, such as Kempinski and Turkey’s homegrown Kaya Palazzo are inclusive here, and in high style. It makes the whole process simpler, gives everyone in your group lots of dining choices, and there’s no travel sticker shock or surprises afterwards. Many of the best hotels are Vegas-style mega-resorts (minus the casino) with large pool complexes, beach clubs, lavish fitness centers, spa, tennis and other sports, even a shopping mall and movie theater in some. Many offer luxury villas with private pools in addition to the rooms and suites.
Standout properties include the MAXX Royal , an upscale all-inclusive, all-suite and villa resort with large and very well-appointed rooms, very large lagoon-style pool complex, spa, extensive facilities and multiple good restaurants, including buffet, a la carte, Turkish, Italian, Asian etc. The MAXX has one of the top courses, the Montgomerie, with the back nine fully lit. The last time Tiger Woods competed in Turkey was on this course, where he finished third in the 2013 Turkish Airlines Open.
Kaya Palazzo Belek is a luxury all-inclusive resort with its own strong 18-holes.
The most luxurious all-inclusive may be the Kaya Palazzo Belek Golf Resort , part of small Turkish high-end resort group. I previously stayed at their fantastic property in Bodrum, Turkey’s poshest beach town, and was stunned, as it was on par with top international luxury brands, and the group even operates one of Turkey’s few ski resorts. The Belek property recently added luxury Lagoon Suites where you walk out into a pool. There are a slew of room categories including Swim Up Suites, Swim Up Villas, Golf Villas and of course, four and five bedroom “Mansions.” Beach lovers can rent Maldives-style over the water stilted cabanas. The resort also has one of the better eighteen-hole courses in the area, the Kaya Palazzo Golf Club. It was designed by Northern Ireland’s David Jones, who played on the European Tour and Senior Tour before becoming one of Europe’s more prolific designers, and he redid one of my all-time Scottish favorites, Ardglass, with great success.
For sheer golf, it’s hard to beat the Gloria , Turkey’s only 45-hole club, with two very solid eighteens, the Old and New, plus the 9-hole Verde and practice facility with Trackman equipped range. There are three all-inclusive Gloria hotels, the fanciest of which is the all-suite and villa Gloria Serenity .
Over-water cabanas in the Mediterranean are the latest upgrade to the vast facilities at the luxury ... [+] Kaya Palazzo Golf Resort.
Other resorts with multiple courses include the Antalya Golf Club (AGC), Cornelia, Regnum Carya and Cullinan Links. AGC is home to both the Pasha and the PGA Sultan course, Türkiye’s premier championship venue, where Tiger Woods lost the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final in the semi-final round to winner Justin Rose in 2012. Both courses are by European Golf Design, a leading architecture firm that has done high profile projects including the Ryder Cup courses at Celtic Mannor and most recently Rome’s Marco Simone golf club. They have had three courses in Europe named “Best New” and two World Top 100 designs. AGC also has a full golf academy, but they are not part of a resort per se. There is a luxury Kempinski hotel, the Dome , on site, one of the few all-inclusive for this global luxury brand, which also operates the most famous and iconic hotel in all of Türkiye, Istanbul’s legendary Ciragan Palace.
The Cornelia Golf Club is a 27-hole Nick Faldo design and one of Türkiye’s best. You can play it all in one longer outing, or in three different combinations of eighteen. It also has an outpost of famed instructor David Leadbetter’s academy, and multiple all-inclusive Cornelia hotels to choose from.
The upscale Regnum Carya resort is home to two impressive layouts, the National Golf Club, the first in the region by David Jones (see above), and the Carya Golf Course, designed by Thomson Perrett & Lobb, the firm of five-time British Open winner Peter Thomson, known for his high-profile Australian designs. This was the first fully-lit 18-hole course in Europe and has hosted the Turkish Airlines Open, the nation’s highest profile event, three times. It is well worth playing day or night. The resort has also hosted everything from a Jennifer Lopez concert to the G20 Summit, recently added lavish lagoon pool swim-up villas, and the even more over the top Crown Villa. It lives up to its regal billing, a single unit spanning more than 37,000 square feet, with six ornate en-suite master bedrooms, more bedrooms for staff, steam room, sauna, massage room, private gym, outdoor living spaces and gardens, 3,600 square foot heated pool—with swim-up bar— and hot tub, DJ facilities, several whirlpool baths, cinema room with another whirlpool bath, “Maxi-bar” instead of mini-bar, and one amenity you very rarely see described in hotel brochures, bulletproof windows.
Cullinan Links is the final multiple course resort here, but as it was expanded from 27-36 holes it got shortened and both courses are a bit short by modern standards. The same cannot be said for an enormous all-inclusive hotel attached, which was previously and fittingly named Titanic. On the plus side, Cullinan is the most coastal facility in the region, with sweeping Mediterannean views.
Many of the better resorts in Belek offer swim-up accommodations, like these new luxury Lagoon ... [+] Villas at the Kaya Palazzo Golf Resort.
The Montgomerie, Kaya Palazzo Golf Club, Gloria Old and New, Pasha, PGA Sultan, Cornelia Golf Club (27-holes), National and Carya are all above-average resort courses most of us would be happy to play anywhere in the world, and this is a solid base of nine-plus layouts, more than enough for a long week of play. The only one I’d advise skipping would be Lykia Links, which aspires to bring a taste of the British Isles to Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast, but comes up short. Links golf is best left to links destinations.
Because so many area resorts are all-inclusive and tourists are used to “free” meals at their hotels and don’t want to spend offsite, most of the better courses here include lunch or dinner and, in some cases, even drinks from the beverage cart in the greens fees to woo golfers to leave their resorts. This is a nice touch you won’t find in many other places, and yet another part of the area’s great value proposition. While a la carte greens fees are priced for international visitors and don’t look as low as you might expect at first glance, most golfers come on greatly discounted packages combining golf with lodging.
As far as I know, none of the top U.S. golf travel specialists have focused on this market, but Golfbreaks by the PGA Tour , launched in the UK, has a U.S. presence and covers the globe, including Türkiye. Some others to check out include Kaden Golf , which won Türkiye’s Best Inbound Tour Operator at the World Golf Awards, Belek’s Golf Mad Travel , Visit Antalya , and Golf Turkey , all of which have modern, English websites, but none of which I can personally vouch for. The individual resorts also offer stay and play packages.
As a longtiime sponsor of a European Tour event and more recently a major amateur tournament, ... [+] Turkish Airlines is a rarity in the travel industry - they let you take your golf clubs on fllghts for free.
Another plus about a Türkiye golf trip is that it’s a cheap and easy place to get to. Star Alliance (United, Air Canada, Swiss, Lufthansa, etc.) member Turkish Airlines is a multiple major award-winning carrier widely considered one of the world’s best, and in my experience superior to any major U.S. or European carrier. Yet despite its proven quality, they often have the lowest prices to Europe of any full service, non-budget airline. They also fly non-stop to a new state of the art multi-billion dollar Istanbul airport, one of the best in the world, from 13 U.S. cities, having most recently added Detroit. I’m a big fan of flying Turkish even when not going to Turkey—they serve more destinations than any airline in the world—and I recently wrote about all the places they fly from, all the awards and what makes them so good here at Forbes .
Turkish also also offers an extensive slate of stopover packages in Istanbul with free hotels and tours, described in my article. In keeping with the theme of more golf vacation for less money, they allow all international travelers to check a set of golf clubs for free , something no one else I know of does. In fact, American Airlines just made headlines by raising its checked baggage fees, and competitors are expected to follow suit, so you’ll save even more.

I’ve been visiting Turkey for 30 years — here’s what I’m excited about for 2024
Hammams, historic sites and hot hotels — our expert has the pick of all that’s new for holidays to turkey this year, from istanbul to the lycian coast.
I t’s almost 30 years since I booked the holiday that would change my life. Fresh out of uni and looking for adventure, I still remember that first transfer from Dalaman airport to Kalkan. A winding, single-track road, leading through forested mountains, past crumbling whitewashed cottages, the grandiose scenery like nothing I’d ever seen.
In the mid-Nineties, tourism was still relatively new — three decades later, villages have grown into resorts, hillsides are dotted with villas and hotels and those winding roads are now dual carriageways, whisking millions of visitors to their hotels. Yet Turkey’s soul remains unchanged: a great, warm hug of a country that still feels like home every time I step off the plane.
I love Turkey for its spectacular landscapes, warm seas, rich and varied cuisine (it’s fantastic for vegetarians) — but mostly for its people, who welcome visitors with good humour, warmth and a deep sense of pride in their country and its traditions.
• Turkey travel guide: all you need to know • 14 best places to visit in Turkey
We all know it’s not without its issues, but for me, at least, a country is not its government or its politics — it’s the people you meet and the welcome you receive. Last summer, more than three million Brits visited — lots, like me, visitors who’ve been returning for many years, drawn back to a genuinely extraordinary place. Here are the Turkish trips you should be considering for 2024.

Istanbul: history, hammams and the Hagia Sophia
Istanbul continues to up its cultural game in 2024, with the opening of the 500-year-old Zeyrek Cinili Hamam in March, combining a state-of-the-art museum with one of the most beautiful bathhouses in the city (museum £4; zeyrekcinilihamam.com). It follows on from the Hagia Sophia History Museum (£21; demmuseums.com) and Istanbul Modern (£13; istanbulmodern.org) — both of which opened last summer, with the latter designed by Renzo Piano and included in Architectural Digest’s “Works of Wonder 2024” list. Combine visits to all three with a stay at the newly opened Sanasaryan Han hotel, a slick, modernist reinvention of an elegant neoclassical building in the Sirkeci neighbourhood, in the heart of the old town. Details Three nights’ B&B from £950pp, including flights, transfers and a half-day’s guided sightseeing (wixsquared.com)
Walking the Taurus mountains
Turkey’s gargantuan Taurus mountains offer spectacular hiking for experienced walkers, and this new small-group holiday from Ramble Worldwide brings together the highlights of the 300-mile St Paul’s trail, which stretches from Perge, close to the Antalyan coast, to the ancient city of Sagalassos in Anatolia. Each day explores a different section, from the jagged beauty of the 400m-deep Koprulu Canyon to the atmospheric ruined cities of Pisidia and Sivri Hill, where the great, glittering Lake Egirdir rolls out below. Accompanied by a local walking guide, you’ll stay in simple pensions that offer fantastic home-cooked food and classic Turkish warmth. Details Seven nights’ full board from £1,630pp, including flights and transfers (rambleworldwide.co.uk)
New seafront boutique hotel near Kas
Often overlooked for its glitzier sibling, Kalkan, Kas is a charming seaside town where much of the tourist development is tucked away on the Kas peninsula, five minutes’ drive from the centre. New from Simpson Travel for 2024 is Casa Bi, a 16-room boutique hotel right on the waterfront, with each of six low-rise buildings designed to make the most of the glorious sea views and peach-coloured sunsets. Breakfast and lunch are taken on the terrace above the sea, while in the evening taxis buzz back and forth from the centre, making it easy to dip into Kas’s vibrant restaurant scene. Details Seven nights’ B&B from £1,395pp, including flights and car hire (simpsontravel.com)
Cycle and sail the Lycian coast
Exploring Turkey’s small mountain roads and quiet byways means you can immerse yourself in the country’s spectacular scenery and peaceful villages — particularly if you’re doing it on two wheels. This new tour from UTracks takes in the backcountry behind popular resorts such as Bodrum and Fethiye, beginning on the unspoilt Datca peninsula and stopping by the tranquil waters of Lake Koycegiz as well as the abandoned Greek city of Kayakoy, high above the package resort of Olu Deniz. The terrain is fairly challenging, but nights are spent on a motor cruiser that glides between resorts, offering restful evenings after active days. Details Seven nights’ half-board from £1,950pp (utracks.com). Fly to Bodrum or Dalaman
Izmir and the Urla wine trail
New flights to Izmir from Heathrow with British Airways and Bristol with Wizzair are opening up Turkey’s Aegean coast to independent travellers, with the chic resorts of Alacati and Ayvalik both handy for the airport. It’s also an ideal starting point for discovering the Urla region, fast becoming Turkey’s answer to Tuscany, with a wine route that links eight of the best vineyards, all open for tastings and within easy driving distance of one another. The Urla Sarapcilik winery is also home to the 2 Rooms Hotel; two serene, white-walled bedrooms, lovely landscaped gardens and a breakfast terrace overlooking the vines. Details B&B doubles from £188 (2roomshotel.com)
Private cruise from Bodrum
A week on a gulet can be one of the best ways to discover Turkey’s history-laced coastline, and this new private-charter History Voyage from Salamander Voyages offers the chance to explore with a group of friends or family. Beginning in Bodrum, with visits to the Halicarnassus amphitheatre and Myndos, the route takes in the ancient site of Knidos on the Datca peninsula and Cleopatra’s Island, in the beautiful Bay of Gokova. Life on board the gulet is lazily luxurious, with a private chef and all meals and house drinks included along with paddleboards and canoes, while waterskiing and wakeboarding are available at an additional charge. Details Seven nights’ full board for 12 from £19,950 (salamandervoyages.com). Fly to Bodrum
Kalkan’s cool new villas
Kalkan now has so many villas that many are several miles out of town, making location an increasingly important factor when booking (taxi queues and parking are both pretty challenging). Dalga One, new to Vintage Travel, is just 15 minutes’ walk from the old town, in the grounds of a small hotel complex with its own beach club where complimentary breakfast is served, while guests also get the use of a private cabana. Further around the headland (but still walkable) is Villa Babil — new to Simpson. It’s an altogether grander affair, with Kalkan’s longest villa pool, minimalist design and floor-to-ceiling windows letting in the cinematic sea views. Details Seven nights’ B&B for six at Dalga One from £4,234 (vintagetravel.co.uk). Fly to Dalaman. Seven nights’ self-catering for six at Villa Babil from £4,720, including flights and transfers (simpsontravel.com)
Hike, dive and kayak from Kas
If lazing by a pool seems a waste of Turkey’s rugged landscapes, this new group activity trip from Exodus offers the chance to scramble through canyons, kayak over ancient sites and dive beneath the waves, take a scenic coastal walk and spend a relaxing day on a gulet. No previous experience is necessary, there’s a tour leader on hand throughout, and you’ll enjoy a free day to explore the charming resort town of Kas, where you’ll be based. Take the ferry to the nearby Greek island of Kastellorizo or (for an additional cost) soar above Kas on a paragliding flight. Details Seven nights’ B&B from £949pp, plus some other meals (exodus.co.uk). Fly to Dalaman
Delice’s delicious new resort
The Delice peninsula — best known for the rather tatty beach resort of Altinkum — gets a spangly new place to stay in late spring when the Anda Barut Collection opens its doors in Didim, with three different hotel zones and a clutch of luxury villas spread across a headland, overlooking a pristine private beach. With ten restaurants, a world-class spa, kids’ clubs and a whole programme of activities and entertainment, it’s the consummate fly-and-flop resort — but it also makes a great base for exploring the spectacular ancient sites that dot the surrounding area, most notably the Temple of Apollo, one of the best-preserved temples of the ancient world. Details Seven nights’ all-inclusive from £1,722pp, including flights and transfers (britishairways.com)
Exploring Ephesus and beyond for solos
New to Newmarket Holidays’ programme of trips for solo travellers, “Ephesus, Sirince and the Western Coast” takes in some of Turkey’s biggest historic hitters, from the ancient shrines and fortifications at Latmos to the Unesco site of Aphrodisias, along with the Temple of Dionysus at Teos and Ephesus itself. Between history fixes, there are excursions to the pretty hillside wine town of Sirince and the charming village of Sigacik, as well as a free day to explore independently. All rooms are en suite, with no single supplement, while hosted meals are available for guests to dip in or out of as they choose. Details Seven nights’ half-board from £1,424pp, including flights and transfers (newmarketholidays.co.uk)
