4LIYC Meeting News: Celebrating Success on March 6 @ Four Lakes Yacht Club

We have much to celebrate, including Ken Whitehorse’s E Skeeter Championship, Doug Kolner’s 2nd Place Renegade finish, and Bob Cummins’ 3rd place in the DN fleet. The club will provide pizza and drinks for everyone to enjoy as we celebrate the achievements of our members. Remember, the meeting of Wednesday, February 28, 2024 is canceled and rescheduled for March 6.

Regatta Archives

ISA History The International Skeeter Association Championship Regatta was first sailed on Geneva Lake in 1940. Jack Vilas Jr. a member of the Skeeter Ice Boat Club, won the first regatta in Suzie Q II. The Renegade Class sailed with the Skeeters from first days of their development until 1950 when they were recognized as a separate class. There are two early newspaper articles I've found that reference the beginnings of the ISA and the Skeeter Class in the Wisconsin area: Oshkosh Daily News, Tuesday, January 23, 1940 TO SAIL SKEETERS On the following weekend, February 3 and 4, the first annual regatta of the International Skeeter class will be sailed on Lake Geneva. An association of Class E boats was recently formed and it is believed this meet will attract entries from a wide area. Wisconsin State Journal, Monday, December 21, 1936 Eight Williams Bay boats were the only entries In the invitational Ice yacht regatta held over the weekend by the Four Lakes Yacht club of Madison, Five races were sailed under perfect weather. The regatta was for "skeeter" boats. The "Hi Voltage," sailed by Fitzcharles, won the regatta; Harry Nye in "H" was second, and Art Anderson in War Horse Too was third.Fitcharles won all three of Sunday's races and placed second and fourth Saturday. Other skippers here were Don Campbell, Mel Jones, Jack Vilas, Jr., Jack Vilas, Sr., and Hank Ferris.

Landings: Quam Map Alternate: Pleasant Springs Map The club has been using the Quam landing. The parking lot is very small. You can't park cars with trailers attached on the side streets. Please be considerate and don't block the landing for long periods of time. There are a lot of ice fishermen who also use the landing and we'd like to keep on good terms with them. UPDATE: Peter Fauerbach looked at the Pleasant Springs landing this morning (Wednesday, Jan. 16) and says that the ice has heaved up some gravel and rocks but that a trailer can easily be rolled on there.

NOTICE OF RACE INTERNATIONAL SKEETER ASSOCIATION 2013 I.S.A. CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA NOTICE All races will be sailed under the rules of the National Iceboat Authority and those of the International Skeeter Association. The Regatta will be held on January 18, 19, & 20, 2013 The first race will be at 10:00 AM Local time on Friday, January 18, 2013. The Regatta will be postponed if the Northwest Ice Yachting Association Regatta is held on these dates. Possible locations, in order of preference, are: Menominee, Green Lake, Madison, Detroit, Gull Lake, Lake Geneva, East Division, Pewaukee, and Burlington Bay. The races will be held for A, B, C Division Skeeters, Renegades and Nites. The Entry Fee is $15.00 per yacht. Awards will be given according to Part II Section 3 of The International Skeeter Association Constitution, By­ Laws and Racing Rules Registration will be at Regatta Headquarters from 8:30A.M. to 9:30A.M. local time on Friday, January 18, 2013. Skippers may obtain sailing instructions at the time of Registration. Five races are scheduled for each division. Three are necessary for a complete Regatta.
