Recommendations

Met all our needs for Reception and dinner. Food was great and portions fair. Stephanie our server was great. Met all my requirements. Very beautiful venue.

Marriann Creelman and her staff were fantastic. From early planning stages to wedding day, we enjoyed a very professional, experienced and knowledgeable team, Marriann, in particular, who guided a young bride and groom and made all the planning very effortless on our part. The venue was spotless, the floors freshly waxed and the staff were so accommodating. We were given carte blanche in terms of decoration, but the simple touches such as the baby grand piano make this such a classic setting. The water views, the lovely grounds and expert wait team just made for a wonderful experience. Our guests made comment on the beautiful surroundings and were very impressed with the meal, it was delivered quickly, was very well prepared and presented, the salads cold, the main course piping hot. As the parents of the bride and having attended many ceremonies over the years, I must commend the staff and encourage anyone looking for an intimate waterside wedding (we sat 105+-) to strongly consider the Saraquay House, youwill be delighted.

A Romantic, Vintage Morning Wedding at Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squad in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Sarah Risk (30 and a registered nurse) and Scott Purcell (40 and a logistics officer in the Canadian Armed Forces) held their nuptials bright and earl

Sarah Risk (30 and a registered nurse) and Scott Purcell (40 and a logistics officer in the Canadian Armed Forces) held their nuptials bright and early in the morning, next to the ocean in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They held their ceremony overlooking the water at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squad, followed by a morning brunch reception. The wedding party was dressed in navy, which matched the romantic white and pink palette for the decor. A special touch was the use of orchids in the decor, a reference to the couple's personal orchid collection. "The dining tables were each set with a tall blooming orchid at the center, and a custom-designed orchid motif menu card matched our wedding invitations," Sarah says. Check out more photos by Nicole & Teddy Wedding Photography, below.

Painted orchids on the invitations referenced the couple's personal orchid collection.

A Halifax Saraguay House Wedding

A Saraguay House Wedding

From a backyard meet & greet to an outdoor ceremony below Halifax's Saraguay House. I lost track of the smiles and the laughter. A solid group of people who weren't afraid to let loose and celebrate. And the late night grilled cheese truck? Amazing.

The Saraguay House is located along Purcells Cove Road, right next door to the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. It’s easy to miss from the road - the main building is tucked behind a stand of pines and sits on a slope that leads to the Northwest Arm. But once you find it? I’d argue that this is one of the nicest venues in town. And that isn’t based on the structure itself, the beautiful grounds or the views through the floor to ceiling windows. The staff are second to none - from the bar to the kitchen. Have you booked a wedding at the Saraguay House? You know what I’m talking about. Thinking about it? Touch base with them ASAP. This one is a true gem.

Another special shout out to the mad talent at Jay Wells Salon - tucked away in a Brunswick Street Historic Property and making guests feel like they’re home.

Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron 2372 Purcell's Cove Road Halifax, NS, Canada B3P 1C7 Telephone 902-477-5653 RNSYS Web Site History of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron

The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) dates back to 1837. The first clubhouse was built in 1860, the year that the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII visited Halifax. A keen yachtsman himself, he presented us with our most treasured trophy, the Prince of Wales Cup. The Prince later added his name to the application to Queen Victoria to use the prefix "Royal" to the club's name. This was approved a year later and we became the Royal Halifax Yacht Club (RHYC). The Club underwent a great deal of upheaval and change between the years 1875 and 1922 when the RHYC became the present RNSYS, and relocated it's clubhouse to the breakwater of Halifax Harbour. The RNSYS moved again to make way for the new container terminal in 1966, and relocated to the present property on the Northwest Arm which farseeing leaders of the Squadron had acquired some years earlier. Recent years have seen the Squadron involved in many significant achievements. With the Boston Yacht club we sponsor the biennial Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race, first sailed in 1905. We were club-of-record for "True North" and "Canada II" the 1984-1987 America's Cup hopefuls. The Squadron holds the annual a match racing event begun in 1976 which sees participants from several countries participating in this ISAF sponsored Omega World Match Racing event. Our members continue to achieve distinction in national and international competition. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron has been committed to providing its clientele with a unique and luxurious way of life since it's establishment in 1837. Globally recognized as a premier sailing and highly reputable social club, "the Squadron" continuously thrives in its own traditions and innovations alike. Conveniently nestled within breath-taking Purcell's Cove, the Club's prime location provides a superior urban seclusion, creating the perfect sea setting guaranteed to entice the most passionate of sailors. Although a nautical background is not a pre-requisite to membership, the Club's vast cruising schedule and friendly, competitive Wednesday night races and annual regattas promise to intrigue everyone. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron boasts outstanding facilities with both formal and casual. In addition to our historic Clubhouse, our Spar Loft designed to accommodate up to three hundred people, is waiting for transformation into a picture-perfect setting for that special event. Their refreshing swimming pool and cozy fireplaces round out a very receptive atmosphere year round. The Club has many social opportunities suited for all ages. The Squadron's social calendar is carefully planned and developed with creativity and enthusiasm. With such popular annual events as Venetian Night, Turkey Bowl and the New Year's Eve gala, lasting memories are formed, and anticipation is heightened once again, for the following year. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron takes great pride in the recruitment and personal growth of its membership. Our hope is that your association with the Squadron is satisfying, rewarding and successful and that it will become an integral part of your life, as it has for several others for so many past generations.
