Newport Classic Cruises is a cousin to the well known Classic Harbor Line which is known for operating with amazing sailboats and classic yachts in Boston, New York, and Key West, but they are also renowned for their outstanding hospitality and customer service. You will find your captain and crew extremely capable, accommodating, helpful, and friendly whether you are spontaneously buying tickets for a classic day sail or planning your one-of-a-kind wedding day.

Built in 1999 by Scarano Boat Building,  Adirondack II  is reminiscent of a classic turn-of-the-century Pilot Schooner. Like the Pilot Schooners that worked the coast throughout the 19th century she is a wooden hulled traditionally rigged schooner and is a working boat known for her elegant profile and surprising speed. At 80 feet, she provides a comfortable, safe, high-performance sailing experience.

With her roomy deck space and large cockpit,  Adirondack II  can accommodate up to 57 passengers. Her size, comfort and classic lines make  Adirondack II  the perfect boat for corporate and private sailing charters, leisurely day sails and sunset cruises on Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.

Built in 2016 by Scarano Boat Building, Sloop  Eleanor  is a custom designed Scarano 48’ sloop that can accommodate up to 24 guests in her roomy cockpit with wrap around seating. Her size and classic lines make  Eleanor  the perfect for more intimate  private boat party .

Built in 1992 by Scarano Boat Building, Schooner Madeleine is a 72 foot sailing beauty.  This yacht was specifically designed and built to carry passengers easily and safely sailing through the local waters of Newport. The Schooner Madeleine maintains 19th century sailboat style with a 21st century sailing comfort and convenience. Certified for up to 49 passengers.

The classic yacht Rum Runner II was built in 1929 at the height of prohibition. This classic boat is certified for up to 49 passengers and is the perfect way to cruise through the Narragansett Bay water!

Starlight | 34′ O’Day

Sailing with just two to six guests, sailing on Starlight is like sailing on your own private yacht.  She is the perfect boat for sailing with friends, family and special occasions.  She has been the setting for countless engagement proposals.

Starlight is a clean and well equipped O’Day 34.  She is 34 feet, comfortable and fun to sail. Her comfortable cockpit, custom stern perch seats, ample deck space and cozy cabin make her the perfect size and design for day sailing around Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.  There is a cooler for drinks and snacks, stereo with iPod interface and blankets and jackets for cool evenings.

Pack a small picnic and come enjoy the spectacular setting as you sail through Newport Harbor, into Narragansett Bay and along the shoreline of Newport’s Ocean Drive.  Sail past beautiful seaside estates, lighthouses, historic landmarks and world famous yachts.

Duck into Brenton or Mackerel Cove for even more stunning sightseeing of yachts and seaside estates. Starlight sails the longest and furthest of any of our boats. Your friendly, knowledgeable captain will provide you with light, informative commentary.

Take the wheel and experience the thrill of sailing, receive casual instruction, or sit back, relax and take in the scenery on your charter boat rental.  Newport is home to one of the prettiest harbors in the country and is the sailing capital of the world!

Special Considerations:

Note: Due to safety considerations, no children under 6 are allowed.  Boarding and disembarking Starlight is done by taking 2-3 steps up and down a sturdy ladder, permanently attached to a seawall.  Guests need to be able to lift their leg about 16-20″ over the boat’s lifelines and hold on to the ladder to get on and off the boat. You may see the boarding ladder in Starlight’s Photos section below.

If you have balance or mobility issues, we recommend you consider a sail on Aquidneck instead.  Aquidneck is our most stable vessel and is easily boarded by a set of stairs with a handrail.

Electric Boat Rentals in Newport Harbor

Electric boat rentals in Newport Beach are located behind (back docks) Davey’s Locker Sportfishing & Whale watching (near the Fun Zone). Must be 21 or older to rent and operate. Electric boats can seat up to 12 people 10 comfortably including infants. Rentals available daily 9 am to 9 pm.

1 hour option retail is $105 weekday and $135 weekend before 11:30 am.

Perrin was amazing! The whole process was such a breeze and we had a great couple of hours out on the water. Really knowledgeable (and we tested him haha) and had great insight about the area and the other boats around us. Would definitely recommend!

Charlie and his wife were fantastic. Very professional, very knowledgeable and incredibly warm and inviting. They were especially awesome with our two little girls, with lots of extras for the girls to enjoy. The boat was great. Spacious and even bigger with more seating than in pictures. Captain Charles is THE BEST!! My husband, 3 children and I booked this and it was hands down the highlight of vacation for each one of us. Captain Charles (or Uncle CC as my oldest has now named him) went above and beyond to make sure the kids had fun, felt comfortable and we’re safe. He had numerous life jacket to choose from and let them jump off the boat AND had a huge raft he tied out there for the kids. We had no idea about this and the kids cannot stop talking about it. We all loved touring through the harbor and hearing so many interesting bits from Charles about places, boats and homes we were seeing. It was fascinating. Captain Charles could not have been nicer to work with and meet. His communication was top notch from days before our ride together. Once on the boat, he has a natural way of making you feel like you’ve been friends for years. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our time with Captain Charles on his boat, which was beautiful and the cleanest boat.

Family of four had a fantastic time boating with Captain Charles! Harbor tour was fun and informative and dropping anchor in Mackerel Cove to swim and have lunch was perfect! Boat was roomy, very clean and had shade and sun so everyone was happy! Best day ever… we all highly recommend!

Since I started on this beat nearly two years ago, I’ve been lucky enough to share some inspiring stories about Southern California residents who’ve  electrified their homes ,  turned their yards into native plant havens  and even  designed entire houses that prioritize sustainability .

This is great news for all of us, since 40% of the country’s total energy consumption comes from buildings. That’s why there’s a growing catalog of resources and financial incentives to help property owners make these sorts of changes, which can make homes greener while also saving residents money over time and improving their health and quality of life.

But what about renters?

My husband and I are among the nearly half of Californians who rent our home. I wrote a story about  how renters are often left out of the eco-home movement  not long after I started covering climate and environment issues for Southern California News Group. And I found some encouraging progress around incentivizing apartment building owners to go sustainable.

As renters of a single-family home, though, it can still sometimes feel like our hands are tied when it comes making our abode more environmentally friendly. We can’t install solar panels or energy efficient windows, for example. We can’t rip out our lawn or convert our entire home to electric appliances. And with the rental market so tight, even asking our landlords if they’d consider taking advantage of rebates available to, say, replace our gas water heater with an electric heat pump version can feel a bit scary.

I was happy to see this  new online tool from Rewiring America , a nonprofit working to electrify homes and other buildings across the country, that offers strategies for helping renters decarbonize their homes. My husband and I have been trying to adopt some of these same strategies over the past couple of years. So I thought I’d share examples of small steps we’ve been taking to make our single-family rented home healthier and more environmentally friendly.

• To avoid using our gas-powered furnace as much as possible, we tapped Facebook Marketplace to buy a used version of one of those electric heaters that’s disguised as a fireplace. It quite easily heats our small home on all but the coldest of mornings. I also recently broke into my crafting supplies and did a fun mosaic design on top, so it feels like a custom piece of furniture!
• To use our gas-powered oven less, we use an electric air fryer and toaster oven whenever possible. We haven’t yet purchased a portable induction burner, but it’s on the list.
• We bought a mix of new and used all-electric equipment to do our landscaping. The power and battery life has been excellent, plus we’re saving money and enjoying the quieter operations.
• We pay attention to weather forecasts and patterns in our home so we can try to naturally heat and cool it as much as possible. That means closing blinds on sunny sides of the house when it gets warm, for example.
• While we still have grass, we also have fruit trees and room for a garden. I wish my thumb was greener, but we dependably have tomatoes, some herbs and plenty of citrus. That cuts down on buying produce trucked in from miles away. We also often have enough to share the spoils with neighbors by hanging bags of fruit on our front fence! And we’ve planted some native and drought-tolerant plants all around the yard.
