carene-infografiche_RGB

TRIPLE POD PROPULSION COMBINED WITH CARBON FIBER

The adoption of triple Pod propulsion, combined with the optimization of the water lines and the extensive use of carbon fiber, reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20 to 30%* in the main speed range.

*compared to vessels of the same weight and size with a traditional hard-chine hull and shaft line propulsion

Carbon tech_0012_S7

Azimut’s pioneering use of carbon fiber lamination goes beyond pure performance. The Carbon Tech Generation offers expanded volumes onboard, while maintaining excellent dynamic stability and perfect handling. Preserving the yacht’s low center of gravity, the carbon fiber was focused on the upper parts of the yacht, lightening the laminated components by up to 30% and reducing the natural roll momentum up to 15%.

Azimut_TF_Active-trim-control

Automated interceptors optimize the trim at every speed to maintain ideal hydrodynamics for performance and efficiency, at the same time negating any lateral imbalance due to sidewinds or weight distribution. With the pilot’s peace of mind assured, the driving experience is simpler and more enjoyable.

Azimut_TF_Garmin-Control-and-Monitoring-System

The custom-installed Garmin electronics have been integrated to control and monitor every onboard system: from engines and alarms, to bilge and water discharge pumps, tank levels and engine room ventilation, right through to the sound system and the air conditioning units. The system can be accessed onboard from both the interior and exterior helm stations and, with the mobile app, remotely from a tablet or smartphone.

Azimut_TF_Advanced-Joystick-Controls

The Joystick acts as an analog for the yacht, offering intuitive, one-handed control in every situation. When the yacht is stopped, moving the Joystick forward or back, side to side, and twisting clockwise or counter-clockwise activates the engines to mimic that motion. It’s the easiest way to pull off precise maneuvers. When Joystick Driving is activated, the autopilot is immediately engaged. For a simple course correction, the pilot just needs to twist and release the joystick to change it by a fixed increment, or twist and hold to change it by by multiple increments.. The Autopilot keeps a forward course after the Joystick is released.

Azimut_TF_High technical standard declaration

This yacht’s design and engineering meet the highest standards for production recreational vessels. Azimut Yachts issues a declaration of the premium materials, advanced technology and rigorous testing procedures.

70 foot yacht guide: finding your perfect yacht.

  • June 18, 2019

The 70 foot yacht range often represents a demarcation in yachting. Vessels below this size range are often owner-operated whereas once yacht owners get into the 70 foot range, owners typically do not operate the yacht themselves. The 70 foot yacht is also just shy of what most consider to be the superyacht category. For instance,  Boat International  tracks superyacht sales and production data of yachts worldwide that are at least 24 meters in length (78-79 feet).

Image 1635: 3042

As the yacht size increases, the complexity of the purchase can also increase. While we often still begin with general use case questions such as what the yacht will be used for, how many guests should it accommodate and where do you plan to travel with the yacht, there are other important elements to consider when purchasing a 70 foot yacht. Considerations such as build quality, yacht type, cruising speed, propulsion options and more are all important elements to thoroughly examine.

Understanding the various yacht types is key to matching the right 70 foot yacht to your needs. Express yachts (can be referred to as express cruisers or sport cruisers) typically refer to yachts with a single deck above the hull and a living space below deck. These yachts often catch the eyes of onlookers as they are sleek and sporty.

Express yachts can be further grouped by looking at the hard top or enclosure. Typically the hard top express yacht either offers a semi-enclosure or full-enclosure for the operator. An open express yacht is different, however, in that it has maximum space for sun with little to no shade on deck. The open express can sometimes be referred to as a “Mediterranean” style yacht.

The flybridge or sedan bridge yacht refers to a yacht that includes an additional space above the main deck. This additional level can include seating and control station. Often times since the flybridge above is present, the main deck will have an enclosed space. The flybridge itself can be open air or enclosed.

Interior Layout

When yachts get into the 70 foot range, the interior layout can include a wide variety of options to suit your particular yachting lifestyle. Yachts in this range often have a spacious main deck salon with excellent seating, dining and entertaining spaces. Down below, the yachts will often have four or more cabins plus crew quarters. Newer yachts feature impressive full beam master bedrooms that come with remarkable spaciousness and the latest amenities. Quite often, a flybridge includes additional seating and control station.

Image 1637: 3044

Finishes and interior designs can vary widely depending on the model and age of the yacht. Commissioning a new yacht build of course means that owners can provide input and select particular finishes and features to meet their needs and tastes.

Considerations When Buying A 70 Foot Yacht

If you’re relatively new to yachting, it can be good to get some experience. Taking time to  charter a yacht  in various destinations can help you narrow down what yacht you wish to buy. Getting familiar through actual use of different yacht types can be very helpful. What features and amenities are important to you? What kind of crew do you anticipate needing? Are you looking for a smaller, more easy-to-operate yacht or are you looking for the most luxurious yachting experience while cruising longer distances? Experience is truly the best way to get closer to accurate answers to these questions.

Understanding your estimated budget for a yacht purchase is a crucial element in narrowing down your options. While understanding that there is always a bigger and more expensive yacht, identify a price range that you are comfortable with while also factoring in crew, maintenance and operating expenses.

Once you identify the yacht type and price range, with the assistance of a yacht broker, you can begin identifying potential options. If considering used yachts, buyers will always encounter the trade-off between age and size. A newer and smaller boat can often cost the same or more than a larger vessel with more years. Of course, newer boats may have less maintenance and upkeep costs while also providing updated technology and features. It’s at this point where an experienced yacht broker can really provide tremendous value. Understanding your needs and budget, a yacht broker can provide excellent advice on selecting yachts to target for purchase that will lead to years of enjoyment and minimal stress.

Custom designing a new yacht can be a thrilling process for owners. Essentially, the owner can provide input at the earliest design phases of the process. The entire design and build process can take years, and the owner experiences taking the yacht from design concept to launch. A semi-custom approach is also available through a number of yacht manufacturers where the owner is essentially purchasing a production model and providing customizations during the build process. Again, talking through your needs and goals with a yacht broker can lead to the most optimal outcome.

Hiring the necessary and appropriate crew for your yacht is an important consideration where many yacht owners can make mistakes. TGYG’s yacht brokers have experience advising on the crew hiring process for yachts of all sizes. Consulting your yacht broker during this process can lead to ensuring the right personnel are in place and to potentially saving quite a bit of money.

Lastly, resale value of the yacht is also an important consideration. The degree to which your yacht holds its value will be based on a number of factors including the quality of the build and finish, maintenance of the vessel during the years of operation, the age of the boat and the overall market conditions at the time of sale. Discuss with your yacht broker the potential variance in resale between the yachts being considered for purchase. An experienced yacht broker who knows the market can provide guidance and help advise on how much this should be taken into consideration at the time of purchase.

As you can tell, working with an experienced yacht broker that you trust is crucial when pursuing a 70 foot yacht or bigger. With the complexity of the vessels and the many variables to consider, a yacht broker that truly knows the product can be the difference between a yacht purchase that leads to minimal stress and years of enjoyment for you and your family and a purchase that can lead to stressful ownership and regret.

Tom George Yacht Group yacht brokers pride themselves on establishing life-long relationships with clients. Our clients’ long-term enjoyment with their desired yachting lifestyle is our focus. This is evidenced by our trustworthy guidance and assistance throughout not just the purchase process but through years of ownership as well.  Contact us today  if you have questions about your yachting needs.

Reviewed: Monte Carlo Yachts 70 Skylounge

  • By Tom Serio

MCY 70 Skylounge

Monte Carlo Yachts’ models are easy to spot in any harbor. They have signature overlapping circular hull windows, with profiles inspired by sport-fish yachts. With the MCY 70 Skylounge, the builder adds an all-weather helm that doubles as an entertaining space—all of which can be customized to suit the owner’s taste.

My tour of the MCY 70 Skylounge revealed a yacht designed for comfortable family cruising. I stepped aboard via the swim platform, which is sized for a 12-foot tender. Twin stairways flank the transom and lead up to the aft deck. There, a twin-pedestal wood dining table has a transom settee and casual chairs for alfresco meals. The flybridge overhang provides shade and protection from the elements.

Inside, the furnishings and cabinetry are all low-profile, allowing unobstructed visibility from stem to stern. Not only do the 43-inch-high-by-8-foot-long windows yield panoramic vistas, but the yacht’s bulwarks are cut down to enhance ocean views. The forward windshield has a center pane with side curved glass for clear sightlines. And because the helm station is up on the flybridge, there’s more interior living space on the main deck. Salon seating includes an L-shaped settee to port and twin armchairs.

MCY 70 Skylounge

The galley is forward and to port, with a four-burner induction cooktop, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer drawers. The adjacent six- to eight-seat expanding glass dining table keeps guests within earshot of the chef.

All throughout the main deck, the yacht’s volume seems substantial. There is 6-foot-8-inch headroom, light fabrics and leathers, recessed LED lighting, and windows in all directions. A starboard-side door lets crew move fore and aft without passing through the salon. An optional day-head can be installed aft, or the space can be used for stowage.

MCY 70 Skylounge

In the salon’s starboard aft corner are a staircase down to the master stateroom, as well as a steel staircase with floating glass steps up to the sky lounge, where the Italian design team of Nuvolari Lenard created a truly comfortable space. The center helm seat is flanked by guest bench seats, with sliding side windows for fresh air when desired. Open the electric sunroof and aft doors, and the enclosed bridge converts to a breezy oasis.

The flat helm console houses rocker switches, thruster joysticks, MAN low-profile electric throttles and other systems. Three Garmin multifunction displays are housed in individual pods, adding to the unrestricted visibility forward. The sofa and ottoman to port are ideal for stretching out after a long run.

Aft on this deck is an outdoor space with several chairs and cocktail tables, protected from the wind and secure within welded railings.

MCY 70 Skylounge

Belowdecks, the full-beam master stateroom has a king berth on centerline with a wraparound headboard, pearl-white lacquer walls and 6-foot-8-inch headroom. This stateroom is a hideaway place with a portside sofa, starboard vanity/desk and flush-mounted 43-inch TV. There’s an oversize marble shower stall with a seat and rain shower in the en suite head, a walk-in closet, and a washer/dryer in the staircase foyer to allow easy living on extended voyages.

The other three guest staterooms are forward, laid out as a forepeak VIP and a pair of twins. The VIP has a queen berth and an en suite head with a tiled shower stall. The twin-berth staterooms can convert to doubles, and an en suite head in the port room serves them both. MCY got creative with the lateral stowage under the center staircase, which is accessible from each guest stateroom. Crew have twin bunks just forward of the engine room.

MCY 70 Skylounge

Far forward on the MCY 70 Skylounge (just follow the teak-capped rails past the Portuguese bridge) is a bow lounge. With a center walk-through, this haven includes sun pads, electric high-low teak tables with dining for 10, pop-up accent lights and a sunshade. Forward is a raised deck that houses the windlass, anchor gear and cleats, keeping these toe-busting protrusions out of walking areas.

A high level of personalization is key for MCY. While the 70 Skylounge bears a strong family resemblance to the builder’s other models on the outside, it can be customized throughout the interior, making it worth a look inside and out.

Find A Dealer

"Virtually fault free, eerily quiet, exceptionally engineered and boasting amazing attention to detail, the Fleming 75 is quite clearly the product of an obsessive design team."

- Motorboat & Yachting

Building on the success of the well-established Fleming 55, Fleming Yachts introduced the magnificent Fleming 75 in 2000. Ten years later the Fleming 75 was redesigned with a longer hull, and longer keel to become the new Fleming 78. The added waterline length and reduced fuel consumption and increases range by 500 NM. The yacht has the same elegant but no-nonsense design philosophy as her smaller sisters, but her larger size permits her to travel further and provide her guests and crew with even more luxurious accommodations. She has three staterooms all en-suite with a separate crews quarters aft. Standard power is twin MAN V12-1550hp engines, and MAN V8-1000hp, & MAN i6-800hp engines are optional. She has a range of 2,000 nautical miles at 10 knots and, can achieve speeds in excess of 20 knots. She is equipped as standard with Aquadrive vibration isolation systems. She has twin 29KW Onan generators, centralized hydraulic system driving American Bowthruster stabilizers, bow thruster, stern thruster, and twin Maxwell windlasses. A custom central monitoring system with three 15" color touchscreens displays all onboard systems, including tank levels, bilge & fire alarms as well as a fully controllable CCTV system.

This 90 ton yacht, like all Fleming's has been built to European CE Category "A" Standards, and she presents the ultimate balance of rugged construction, engineering excellence and artful elegance. Fleming Yachts are the "Ultimate Cruising Yacht," and the Fleming 78 is the ultimate Fleming.

Also offered is the Fleming 78 Classic Edition which has become a popular alternative for owners wanting a different style of flybridge. The Fleming 78 Classic takes cues from her sibling, the F65, with a lower, sleeker profile due to a single-level flybridge. Additionally, the longer boat deck increases space for seating and a tender or watercraft. Read more about the Fleming 78 Classic here .

Overview Continued...

Safety and convenience were given top priority in the design of all deck areas. All hardware was selected for durability and functionality and much of it, such as the stainless steel cleats and roller-chocks, was designed and custom made specifically for the vessel.

The foredeck platform has been set up for twin Maxwell hydraulic anchor windlasses. These have plug-in remote controls for reliability and safety, as well as controls at both the pilothouse and flybridge helm stations. The anchor platform is designed to accomodate two 176 Lbs (80Kg) Ultra anchors, and the chain locker holds two 400ft (121m) lengths of 1/2" (13mm) Grade-60 stainless steel chain.

Solid stainless steel fairleads are bolted through the bulwarks to allow the capstans to be used for warping. Storage lockers, either side of the anchor platform, house twin shorepower inlets as well as salt and fresh water  bibs.

The stainless steel oval-section handrail has been brought inboard for security. Additional stainless steel handrails are provided on the top of the non-skid cabin trunk for the convenience of children as well as providing tie-down points for optional cushions.

The forepeak is accessed through a deck hatch immediately aft of the windlasses and is separated from the rest of the boat by a watertight, collision bulkhead. It is divided into two chain lockers each with its own bitter end fitting. There is ample room for stowage of lines, and the forepeak drains directly overboard.

The Portuguese bridge deck provides protection for the pilothouse in the unlikely event that green water should come aboard. Solid doors, assisted by gas springs, give access to the forward deck to port and starboard. Lockers within the Portuguese bridge provide storage for fenders and lines. A handrail runs around the front and sides of the pilothouse with sliding doors on either side. Forward-facing windows have 10mm thick tempered glass. Wipers are heavy duty with an integral wash system. Teak laid decks are standard aft of the Portuguese Bridge.

Wide, well-protected side decks run down both sides of the boat with sturdy stainless steel handrails. Fuel fills with unique covers and anti-burp design are concealed within the steps leading down from the bridge deck. Bulwarks have inward-opening doors. Spring line cleats are recessed either side of roller chocks for spring lines.

The spacious aft deck is surrounded by a wide teak caprail and fiberglass skirt concealing engine room air intakes and mood lighting. Warping winches to port and stbd eliminate the labor of adjusting mooring lines. The inward-opening transom door, pivoting smoothly on a stainless steel tube-hinge of proprietary Fleming design, gives access to a 48" deep swim step with nonskid surface. (Teak decking is optional). Sturdy stainless steel handrails extend across the width of the transom. Cablemaster inlets are recessed behind the transom door. Shower fittings are located inside the aft end of the cockpit and are usable from the swim step.

The manual pull for the engine-room fire system and remote fuel shut-off valves are concealed behind the door on the aft face of the California deck. A large powered centerline hatch provides access into the lazarette. A teak-dressed step across the aft face of the California deck provides seating and a place to put equipment for activities such as scuba diving. Offered as an option is a retractable engine/thruster control station which folds away into the aft face of California deck structure.

The California Deck features a fixed settee around a teak-topped table. To port is a serving area with a stainless rail. There is overhead lighting as well as courtesy lights and custom lights on the aft face of the deckhouse. Access to the boat deck is provided by a curved ladder with radiused teak treads and oval section stainless tubes.

Flying Bridge

The flying bridge area is divided into two levels and has three distinct functional areas. The upper level is effectively an open-air pilothouse which features a helm station with full engine and thruster controls, instrumentation and a unique electronics console which retracts into the flybridge structure when not in use. There is a Stidd helmseat behind the stainless steel destroyer-type wheel and Stidd bench seats on either side of it. An aft-facing L-settee area includes a table and space to stbd for a bench-type freezer. A venturi shield with an integral stainless steel handrail curves around the front and side of the upper bridge to the radar arch.

The forward portion of the lower level is primarily for entertainment and is equipped with seating for a dozen people around a large table. Forward is a fridge and icemaker plus barbecue and sink beneath a folding lid. There is concealed lighting in the toe-space beneath the settees. A large watertight door provides direct access into the pilot house. A larger gas grill and top-opening freezer are offered as options in lieu of a port settee on the lower level.

Aft of the seating area is the boat deck equipped with a 12-foot, 1,500 lb. (680kg) capacity davit, which has its own hydraulic power unit enabling power slewing rotation luffing and a linear hoisting winch (using a linear winch in which the cable is not wrapped around a drum). The boat deck will accept tenders up to 17-feet mounted fore and aft. Also on the boat deck is a lift-up hatch providing access to the California deck and cockpit. An AC outlet is provided for plugging in a battery charger for the tender.

Available as options are hardtops for the upper bridge and for covering the seating area on the lower level. Also available as options are a second control station at the aft end of the boat deck and, separately, an airfoil-section yacht mast for mounting on top of the arch.

Salon, Galley & Dinette

With a combined area of 350 sq ft. these three spaces flow together to form a luxurious yet functional area made even larger by the extension of the salon onto the California Deck through the aft doors. Teak and holly soles are standard throughout as are wood mini-blinds recessed into the window frames.

The salon can be customized to suit owners requirements. The standard salon layout includes an entertainment center with cabinets and bookshelves along the stbd side, and TV cabinet in the starboard aft corner with a powered TV Lift. To port is an L-settee with Fleming oval teak coffee table with storage locker. Aft to port is a bar cabinet with granite counter top, sink, combo fridge/icemaker, and bottle storage.

Opposite the galley the dinette area comes standard with a curved banquette, oval dining table, storage cabinets with glass doors at the forward bulkhead with a granite top. Designer LED lighting is installed over the table and has a dimmer control.

The galley features an 18-foot linear length of granite counter with an undermount stainless steel double sink, overhead lockers, ample drawers and storage, pull-out pot locker forward of the cooktop and includes the following quality appliances, Sub Zero fridge with freezer drawers, Miele oven, Miele  dishwasher, convection microwave, waste disposer, Miele induction cooktop with custom stainless steel potholders, Instahot for dispensing filtered hot and cold water, swivel faucet with pull-out nozzle.

Accommodations

The wide beam of the Fleming 78 provides exceptionally spacious accommodations featuring teak and holly soles throughout and bulkheads faced with teak and synthetic soft leather paneling and headliners. The accommodations are reached from the pilothouse via stairs, which widen and flatten out as they descend into the forward lobby. Each tread is illuminated with concealed rope lights for discreet evening illumination. An oval section stainless steel handrail follows the curve of the stairwell, which also features a mirrored alcove with a granite shelf for owner's art work.

Each of the staterooms open off the forward lobby, which has a custom overhead light and a vertical stainless handgrip. A gas-spring assisted hatch leads to the machinery space below the sole. The washer and drier are concealed behind a teak-faced door.

The owner's stateroom features a kingsize bed with mattress, which lifts hydraulically for easy access to a large storage area under it. A curved bureau with mirrors are on either side of the bed. Teak cove moldings along both sides of the stateroom and a curved soffit over the bed contain concealed lighting. There is a walk-in closet with louvered double doors and portlight, a desk with ample drawers and a space designated for a TV. Large stainless steel, CE-approved portlights are featured in the stateroom and head.

The owner's head features a shower stall or optional tub with a thermostatically controlled mixer valve in a fiberglass-lined enclosure. It is divided from the head by stainless steel and glass doors. A ceramic basin is set in a granite or marble-topped counter with designer faucets.

The port guest cabin is available with either twins or a double berth with an optional upper slide-out berth. The fiberglass-lined shower is divided from the head by a stainless steel and glass door, and the shower faucet is thermostatically controlled. A ceramic basin is set in a granite or marble-topped counter with designer faucets. CE-approved portlights are used in the stateroom and head.

A VIP guest cabin forward features a tapered Queen berth with mattress, and has a hydraulically powered lift for easy access to storage underneath. The forward cabin is also available with a V-Berth layout. A CE-approved skylight and escape hatch includes a remote controlled roller-type insect and blackout screen. There are hanging lockers to port and starboard with louvered doors and drawers underneath. A fiberglass-lined shower stall is divided from the head by a curved stainless steel and glass door. The shower faucet is thermostatically controlled. A ceramic basin is set in a granite or marble-topped counter with designer faucets. CE-approved portlights are used in the stateroom and head.

Machinery Space

Unique to the Fleming 78 is an extensive machinery space located under the forward accommodations, it is very well illuminated with LED lighting. The cabin sole is double thickness and filled with lead/foam sound insulation to isolate the accommodations from this area, which is 29-feet long and is accessed through a hatch in the forward lobby. Installed in the machinery space are the pumps, water heaters, black and grey water tanks and air-conditioning units. This functional area frees up space in the engine room and keeps wiring and piping runs to a minimum. It also allows easy access to key components and makes it possible to access plumbing for toilets and showers from underneath.

The machinery space is also home to the 1,200 A/H AGM house battery bank. Also in this area are the two Outback 3,500 watt inverters, the 36Kw ASEA freuqnecy converter and all the switchgear associated with the electrical systems. The machinery space has its own ventilation blower ducted to an outlet on deck. It is protected by an automatic fire suppression system. The bow thruster motor and associated hydraulic valves are also readily accessible. Despite all this equipment there remains ample storage space for supplies for long range cruising.

Engine Room

The 22-foot long, full height engine room in the Fleming 78 is spacious, brightly lit and laid out with easy access to all equipment. There are even lights illuminating the drip pans under the engines. Stainless steel overhead handrails run the full length of the engine room. The overhead is up to 8" thick, filled with sound insulation. A workbench with drawers, and stainless work surface are standard. Floorboards are dressed with checkerplate-patterned Lonseal for appearance and sound attenuation. The engine room is lined with a reflective alloy pegboard for easy maintenance. The access door is an internally insulated, submarine type with gasket, double latch and inspection window.

The two main fuel tanks divide the engine room from the accommodations and total 2,500 US gals (9,463 liters). Two auxiliary wing tanks bring the total fuel capacity up to 3,000 US gals (11,356 liters). The fuel tanks are located on the longitudinal center of gravity so the trim of the Fleming does not change as fuel is consumed. Sight gages show the height of the fuel in every tank and pressure sensors display the contents, in gallons, liters and percentage, on the FFM monitoring system in the pilothouse. Twin Racor filters with vacuum gages, change-over valves and stainless steel drip trays are standard as is a fuel transfer pump, with filter and counter, which can be used to transfer fuel between tanks. Fuel selector panels provide easy selection for supply and return to and from main engines and generators. Storage bins for spares are provided above the side tanks.

Intake air is drawn in from around the cockpit rather than outside the hull where it is laden with salt. Automatic baffles close off the ventilation ducts at the aft end of the engine room. The automatic fire system also has a manual pull operated from the aft deck.

Naturally the main engines are the most prominent items of equipment in the engine room. Standard engines are MAN V12-1550 HP, with optional MAN V8-1200, MAN V8-1000 and MAN i6-800 hp. There is good access around both sizes of engines and both are fitted with additional 200 amp hevy duty brushless alternators controlled by an external regulator. Oversize raw water intake ball valves and sea strainers are conveniently placed.

Huge Aquadrives (the largest in the range) isolate the engines from the shafts and permit the use of soft engine mounts, matched to the vibration characteristics of the engine, which reduce noise and vibration transmitted to the hull. The shaft couplings have protective covers for safety. There is easy access to the shaft logs, which are bronze with a dripless packing.

Standard generators are two 29 KW Onan eQD in sound shields. Generator exhausts pass through waterdrop mufflers to reduce exhaust noise to a whisper. Special attention has also been paid to the main engine exhaust system, which has been designed to keep the boat as quiet and free from vibration as possible.

Variable displacement hydraulic pumps on both engines power the ABT centralized hydraulic system, thus maintaining stabilizing and bow & stern thruster operations even when running on one engine. Stabilizer actuators are readily accessible forward of the wing tanks, and the hydraulic reservoir is easy to reach on the aft bulkhead. A hydraulically driven Pacer emergency bilge pump is optional.

95 US gal (359 liter) oil tanks to port and stbd provide storage of clean and dirty lube oil. Tanks are connected to two oil change systems. A 16,000 BTU engine room air-conditioning system is standard equipment.

A large hydraulically operated centerline hatch provides convenient access into the lazarette, which contains the water tanks, and Cablemasters. All equipment is located for easy access, leaving ample space for storage.

The spacious Fleming 78 pilothouse has the feel of a bridge of a much larger vessel and is the nerve and social center of the boat. Gently curving stairs lead down to the accommodations and short companionways lead up to the flybridge and down to the salon. Sliding doors on either side give access to port and starboard bridge decks. Throughout there are ample handrails for security.

An L-shaped settee, raised up for enhanced visibility, is set around a teak table with storage built into the leg. Wood window blinds slot into retainers. An optional, hydraulically operated pilot-berth can be recessed into the aft bulkhead. To port is a chart table and flexible chart light. Of course, the main function of the pilothouse is to provide a dedicated area for piloting free from distractions. The Fleming 78 has achieved this with style and luxury. There is space for a full range of electronics in full-width upper and lower consoles. Engine instrumentation and controls as well as the bow & stern thruster joysticks are grouped at the helm station. One Stidd helmseat is standard but there is space for two additional chairs. There are separate swing-out, back-lit switch panels.

Adjacent to the pilothouse is a day head with toilet and ceramic basin set in granite or marble countertop with mirror and lockers. There is an opening portlight a blower for ventilation, and airconditioning inlet.

Aft Lobby and Crew Quarters

Access to the crew's quarters and the engine room are from the port side deck, via an access door and stairs, which lead down to the aft lobby. This location allows the crew to come and go from their quarters, and the engine room, without disturbing the guests enjoying the amenities of the California deck.

The aft lobby opens into the crew head, the crew cabin and the engine-room. This allows the crew head to be accessed without having to enter the crew cabin. The crew cabin has two hanging lockers, one 45" wide berth and a second 36" wide berth, ample drawer space and additional overhead storage. There is also a mirror, desk with escape hatch over and two CE-approved portlights. The crew head has a washbasin, shower and  toilet. A 15" color touchscreen connected to the FFM monitoring system is included as standard in the crew cabin. This ensures that the crew are aware of any alarms and can monitor the yachts systems remotely. The internally insulated submarine-type door to the engine-room has a glass inspection port. There is also an option for two seperate crew cabins.

70 Hatteras Sportfish Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

Take an extensive tour of the 70 hatteras sportfish [just like that] in fort lauderdale, florida with russ schafer..

This article is a transcription of the 70 Hatteras video from Denison’s YouTube Channel . Tune in daily to discover the latest yacht video walkthroughs from the world’s largest yacht video collection. Watch the full video below:

Good morning I’m Russ Schafer with Denison Yachting here in the yachting capital of the world, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on board JUST LIKE THAT , a 1999 70 Hatteras Sportfish enclosed bridge. In addition to the quality, ride and respect that comes with the Hatteras name, this 70 was heavily optioned from the factory. Since her delivery, she has been continuously updated throughout her life and maintained better than most of her competitors that I’ve personally been on board. There are a few things that make this boat stand out one of which is her MTU engine package. Shortly after her delivery, her owner replaced her Detroit diesels with 16V 2000 MTUs. Her updated engine package allows her to cruise nicely at 26 knots or even faster if needed. I personally seen these engines push this 70 footer over 34 knots on the pins.

In addition to her MTU engines, she is stabilized with Nyad Multi C2 Stabilizers. Her two Nyad stabilizers are found below the waterline and offer great compensation for the full tuna tower. Another important feature is in 2017, both generators were replaced with 21.5 kW Onan generators. Plenty of other features that give this boat a much newer feel include a paint job and all powder coating redone in white, upgraded Garmin electronics, updated air conditioning and heads, new tender 14 foot with a 40 horsepower Yamaha, fridge and washer and dryer.

70 Hatteras mezzanine

We are going to get today’s walkthrough started off at the transom of the 70-foot Hatteras. An expansive 159 square foot cockpit loaded with everything you need for long range fishing. Some of the main features back here include a pair of updated underwater lights that are placed just below this Hatteras’s name board. Another essential feature back here is the tuna door located at the starboard side of the transom. Moving into the cockpit itself, I’m next going to point out some of the other key aspects of her fishing platform. Centerline is a removable table that within minutes can be replaced with a fighting chair that conveys with the sail of this boat. Located directly under this below the deck is a massive fish 80-inch plumbed with an Eskimo ice chipper. This works well with the molded in fish box, live well in the aft transom.

To starboard is cold storage with both a refrigerator and freezer. This is integrated into the mezzanine step with matching storage located to port for your bait and tackle. The final feature to point out back here are the two folding step boxes for boarding. These are located on both sides of the cockpit and make boarding and leaving the vessel much easier than having to step up on the gunnel.

70 Hatteras tower

This brings us to the mezzanine which is just two steps up from the cockpit. There’s a long bench seat located on the port side below the cover of a molded brow that keeps you protected from the elements. As you can tell this area was designed to be a safe space for having the family on board. Thanks to the many safety rails that encircle this space. To starboard is additional storage as well as a cockpit docking station and sink. The helm found here gives you full control over the yacht and is located directly below the stairs leading up to the enclosed bridge and tuna tower. Once at the top of this ladder, you arrive to the observation deck which has a refrigerator and storage to starboard. Also found up here is an aft facing seat that mirrors the bench seating located directly below. Outboard of this is another docking station to port which comes in handy when you’re fishing a tournament or backing down.

70 Hatteras salon

From here you can climb up the safe centerline ladder to the tower. This is the best spot to keep an eye on your bait. Found up here is the third exterior helm from which you can operate the 70-foot Hatteras. Next we’re going to enter the enclosed air-conditioned flybridge where you’ll first notice the two custom adjustable helm chairs overlooking updated Garmin electronics. Other key features found here are twin 7215 Garmins and an XSV Garmin with open array radar. Accessibility to electronics is easy if you need to work on something. There’s also L-shaped seating to port with rod storage and a sink with additional storage to starboard with AC controls.

From here our next stop is the salon located on the main deck. It’s immediately evident that this living area has been updated and well cared for. To port is an L-shaped ultra-leather sofa with beautiful high-gloss coffee table. Underfoot is updated carpeting and looking over to starboard we see a 55-inch flat screen TV along with a barrel chair and entertainment center. Looking forward into port you’ll see the wet bar and granite countertops above the updated ice maker and wood blinds. JUST LIKE THAT features a step up galley located just forward of the salon. There are granite countertops throughout with Teak and Holley flooring. It’s hard to miss the full-size GE stainless refrigerator replaced in 2020. Other appliances include the 4 burner cooktop and microwave convection oven. Across to starboard is the spacious wraparound dinette with fresh upholstery. At this point it’s worth noting the AC systems were totally updated in 2018.

70 Hatteras galley

Now let’s take a look at the guest accommodations starting in the master. This accommodation is where the 18 foot beam shines. This full beam master boasts a king-sized berth, large closet and private head with shower. Leaving here and heading forward, we arrive at a bunk room with over under twin berths and private head. Just a few steps outside of this cabin is the updated laundry center.

Continuing forward through the companionway and turning to starboard is a guest stateroom with a queen berth and plenty of storage. This cabin has a Jack and Joe entrance into the shared head and shower. All the way forward is the VIP stateroom with an island queen berth. Directly overhead of the VIP topside is where the updated 14 foot AB custom tender with 40 horsepower Yamaha, purchased in 2018 is stored. Surrounding the foredeck are high bow rails that ensure safe operation. Forward on the pulpit is a 60 pound Danforth stainless steel anchor and Maxwell 3500 windlass. Lastly, we have the bow thruster to assist in turning all 70 feet on a dime.

Boat Review: American Custom Yachts 70

  • By John Brownlee
  • Updated: April 22, 2005

As Capt. Travis Butters steered the 70-foot American Custom Yacht Que Mas along the reef, I glanced over at the GPS. It indicated 32 knots, and we were turning only 1,800 rpm. The twin 16V-2000 MTUs still needed another 550 rpm before they reached full throttle! Crank them up to 2,350 and you’re traveling at over 40 knots.* Everybody knows that American builds fast boats, but until you’ve actually ridden on one, you can’t fully appreciate the exhilaration of traveling that fast on a rig this big.

As we started offshore toward Alligator lighthouse off Islamorada, Florida, for a photo shoot, the captain wove his way through the local charter fleet. Jaws dropped on each of the boats we passed as the fishermen and captains marveled at the speed, beauty and sheer size of the Que Mas. This is a boat that demands attention, and once you get your eyeballs on it, it’s hard to look away.

Wally and Sue Whitley built the boat specifically for extended cruising and fishing adventures, and it will soon leave for the Panama Canal and the Pacific Ocean, eventually making its way north to Alaska. The Whitleys wanted to be intimately involved in every aspect of the boat’s design, along with Captain Butters and mate Ben Ekblom, because this boat will be their home on lengthy trips. Their attention to detail, combined with the expert craftsmen at American, produced a remarkable boat.

**Cockpit **First and foremost, American built the Que Mas to fish, and it sports a massive cockpit to facilitate that mission. The cockpit features bilevel storage cabinets forward, a design we’re seeing more often these days on larger boats, which provides a large amount of storage space while leaving plenty of cockpit area for fishing. This arrangement also creates lots of rear-facing seating for guests who want to watch the baits, and the custom cabinets reflect the owners’ needs. For instance, the port boxes on the Que Mas contain a massive chill box in the top portion and both a livewell and a hidden air compressor for filling dive tanks in the lower half.

To starboard, there’s a huge tackle locker in the top half of the cabinet, running the entire width of the starboard unit. It holds just about every item a mate might need in a hurry, all within arm’s reach of the pit.

Four lids on the lower half of the starboard unit conceal engine-room access, a throw box and two freezers, from left to right. And if that’s not enough storage for you, an in-deck transverse fish box forward of the fighting chair does double duty as a truly gigantic livewell. The Release Marine chair rests atop an offset stanchion, with a spacious lazarette beneath the sole just aft of the chair.

The cockpit also features bridge overhang lights that pull down and become air-conditioning vents for trolling on those dog days of summer. Clearly, a lot of thought and planning went into this cockpit, and it’s hard to envision one better conceived.

**Below **The engine room offers a centerline workbench between the main engines, greatly simplifying minor repairs and maintenance chores. American installed mirrors above the MTUs so you can easily see all parts of the engine, and the finished wood floors add an elegant touch to the engine space. Twin 25-kW Northern Lights generators sit aft beneath the cockpit sole, along with the boat’s air-conditioning units.

Battery boxes and fuel filters are positioned along the forward engine-room bulkhead, keeping everything within easy reach and well lit by numerous overhead fluorescent lights. A separate, air-conditioned pump room forward of the engine room contains the watermaker, chillers for cooling the freshwater supply, the air compressor that operates the pneumatic salon door, and another toolbox. An overhead hatch leads to the galley above, so you can enter the pump room without going through the engine room.

Living Space Interior decorator Sam Rowell worked closely with the Whitleys to create a stunning living space, abounding in rich woods and fine fabrics. Upon entering the salon, you first notice large storage cabinets in the galley, all crafted from beautiful matched grain teak. An L-shaped sofa lies to starboard, with a triangular table that contains storage for trolling reels and the attached rod butts. Clips inside the table hold each reel securely in place, a very innovative use of space, but that’s a theme you see again and again on this boat.

The flat-screen TV rises out of a cabinet to port, with a full complement of audio-visual equipment. There’s a complete video system concealed to starboard, with remote video cameras mounted all over the boat – including one on each outrigger. A storage space to port contains both wine glasses and the boat’s satellite phone.

| In the galley, granite countertops cover the L-shaped bar, which contains the refrigerator and freezer units, as well as an ice maker. In keeping with the stated mission, you could easily live on this boat for a long time.| |Three staterooms accommodate owners, guests and crew. The companionway lies to starboard, with the master stateroom aft. All the staterooms feature cedar-lined closets and flat-screen TVs. The master offers up a roomy head outboard along the port side. Along the companionway to starboard, American mounted display racks for storing numerous fly rods. The guest stateroom lies forward of the master and also contains a private head and flat-screen TV. |

The crew quarters are situated at the forepeak. The innovative use of space continues up here with four bunks, two of which fold up like a Pullman berth and conceal additional rod storage racks. There’s a third head forward and to starboard.

The boat has no bow rail, nor does it have a bow pulpit, which would seem to make anchoring a problem. But on closer inspection, we found an ingenious folding pulpit that disappears below a deck hatch when not in use. It simply folds up into the anchor locker. Likewise, a retractable davit disappears into a storage space in the foredeck, but pops out to lift a flats skiff onto the deck. The cradles for the skiff fit securely in the same compartment. This system keeps the bow clean, yet provides ultimate utility upon demand.

**Performance **Our test ride took place on a breezy day with 4-foot seas rolling onto the reef. The Que Mas basically ignored them, as we repeatedly circled the photo boat at different speeds and angles to the waves. Being 70 feet long doesn’t hurt, of course, but with power steering this boat handles like a much smaller craft. It feels agile, responsive and, above all, quick. When we hit the throttles, the instantaneous acceleration impressed us all.

It should come as no surprise that the latest beauty from American Custom Yachts performs superbly – the company built its reputation on performance. American uses cold-molded construction utilizing fir stringers wrapped with diagonal layers of Bruynzeel plywood. Stringers are also laminated with fiberglass and Kevlar for superior strength and light weight to add both efficiency and speed. Three layers of plywood set at opposing angles make up the hull bottom, with two layers in the hull sides for additional weight savings.

The Que Mas combines high-tech construction with distinctive styling in a boat that’s fast, beautiful and loaded with design features that make it truly functional. That’s standard operating procedure at American Custom Yachts, one of America’s premier custom boatbuilders. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

* Marlin’s test numbers reflect higher speeds because of extensive prop tuning done between sea trials.

Oyster 70 Sailing

WHAT WE SAY

The Oyster 70 originates from the successful Oyster 68, with many new features added to the well proven sea keeping, performance and layout possibilities. Four of the Oyster 70s were built between 1996 and 1999. The lengthened hull and completely re-styled deck moulding provides a larger sunbathing area on the aft deck and allows for a larger lazarette locker, which can include a hydraulically extendable passerelle. The cockpit has been lowered in the hull which gives the possibility for lower coamings whilst keeping the protected environment and giving a sleeker appearance. There are two rigs. One is the sporty version of a fully battened mainsail giving 14% more sail area or, for easy handling, the other option is a rig with hydraulically operated in-mast furling.

Blog | Yachts to Consider Between 70 to 80 ft.

Arm yourself with actionable sales intelligence in the motoryacht arena.

INTRODUCTION

The 70-80 foot market continues to be a strong market with several recent sales. Here’s a breakdown of a few of the top yachts to consider between 70 and 80 feet in length that are attracting buyers to the table.

Ocean Alexander Galley

Ocean Alexander 78 Yacht

The 2012 Ocean Alexander 78 ALEXANDRA represents one of the finest motor yachts in her class with less than 400 original hours, Zero Speed Trac stabilizers finished off with a stunning Destry Darr Interior. Powered by twin Caterpillar C18 ACERT engines (Approx. 397 hrs), she carries a three-stateroom layout plus crew quarters, making for an ideal cruising yacht, whether for an owner operator or crewed yacht. The previous owners transitioned from a a 62’ Ocean Alexander, falling in love with the spacious layout in the bigger 78′ model that could accommodate cruising requirements in Southern waters like Florida and on Lake Michigan in Chicago. This motoryacht offers more substance and more room, guaranteeing guest comfort in all cruising locations. _________________________________________________________________________________ More research: Review Similar Yachts | Review Ocean Alexander Reviews & Articles

2008 75′ Azimut Yacht

The 74-78 range is a strong market with continued demand and the Azimut 75 is a boat worth considering whether you’re moving up into a larger yacht or just getting started in the boating world. Although a different breed than the Ocean Alexander showing modern lines and euro interior she’s a sporty yacht that’s perfect for cruising up the coast or a trip to the Bahamas. This particular Azimut 75 is a great example of a well maintained boat cared for by professionals. A crew of two have been aboard full time since first delivery and it shows. Dark stained wood and cream leather highlight the modern and spacious interior. She’s an example of a yacht that is just as stylish in Monaco as it is in Miami. The best priced Azimut 75 on the market priced for a quick sale. ________________________________________________________________________ More research: Review Similar Yachts | Review Azimut Yachts Reviews & Articles

2008 Azimut 75

2005 80’ Mangusta Express Yacht

This 2005 Mangusta 80 is a real screamer, cruising at 37 knots she tops out at 44 knots. Imagine running from Miami to Bimmini or Cannes to Monaco for lunch with plenty of space for entertaining. This Mangusta’s beautifully crafted interior features highgloss teak woodwork and teak and holly soles. She has been very well maintained and represents one of the best values on the used yacht market. _________________________________________________________________________________ More research: Review Similar Yachts | Mangusta Reviews & Articles

2006 80 Hatteras Enclosed Bridge Motor Yacht

Boarding this Hatteras 80 one is immediately aware that she is the American heavy weight of this class. Her light Anigre woodwork really brightens the salon and formal dinning area. Head up the stairs to the fully enclosed bridge and one will find a full office. The full beam master features his and her heads and plenty of cedar lined storage. The Hatteras 80 is offered in both an open flybridge as well as a fully enclosed sky lounge if you’re heading north. If she is too large checkout the 72 Hatteras Motor Yacht featured below. _________________________________________________________________________________ More research: Review Similar Yachts | Hatteras Reviews & Articles

They are known to be great running sea boats and their MAN engines are very reliable. 2008 Vicem 72 Classic Yacht

2011 Marlow 78 Motor Yacht

This nearly new yacht is the long range cruiser of the bunch. An enclosed pilothouse and 3500 gallons of fuel makes this Marlow Explorer the expedition leader. Grab handles on the ceiling will allow her adventurous owner to move freely no matter the sea state. Berth space for ten guests in four staterooms insures no one will be left behind. _________________________________________________________________________________ Marlow Reviews & Articles

Lazzara 75 LSX Sport Yacht

One of five 75 Lazzaras currently on the market, this 2007 model is the nicest available. New paint in 2010 and fresh varnish on her aft cap rails really set her apart from her competition. The galley down arrangement is very unique in that it gets natural light from the windshield. Her quad Volvo IPS 600s power this Lazzara 75 to 27 knot cruise speed. Tip: We recently listed a 116′ Lazzara for sale that will appeal to buyers who wish to move up to higher length ranges in the future. In 2014, the owners spent over $250,000 to keep her in ‘mint’ condition. _________________________________________________________________________________ More research: Review Similar Yachts | Lazarra Reviews & Articles

FURTHER INSIGHT…

While the 70-80 foot motoryacht range is a natural sweet spot for international buyers also consider these two standout yachts in the 60-70 range and 80-90 foot range respectively. We consider them uniquely suited to the market, displaying a level of design and performance maturity that will appeal to luxury-minded American families.

70 Luxury Power Catamaran

Gorgeous lines, super balanced, intelligent luxury. These are just a few ways to describe our new flagship, the Aquila 70 Luxury Power Catamaran. This breathtaking and powerful catamaran is like nothing you have ever stepped aboard. With an aesthetically pleasing design at every angle, the Aquila 70 looks like the stunning luxury yacht that it is.

The Aquila 70 can top out at 27 knots (with the optional engines) yet still cover long ranges at slower speeds. Power and maneuverability come from Volvo Penta inboards coupled with joystick control. Carbon fiber reinforcements keep weight down while adding to the yacht’s strength. The high bridge-deck clearance allows for even more comfort underway and improved speeds.

For your relaxation and entertainment needs, the Aquila 70 has massive spaces designed with European flair that are bright, inviting, and welcoming including a 27’ wide master suite. Versatile interior layouts, along with rich wood finishes, soft fabrics, smart appliances, designer furnishings, incredible headroom, and panoramic windows make your experience onboard even better.

Outdoor areas receive just as much attention. Our signature stairs make it easy to access the foredeck from the flybridge, which can be fully open or enclosed with A/C and a wide Portuguese bridge for easy access from aft to bow. If you prefer, spend your time hanging out aft, with its comfortable plush seating, huge beach area, deep swim ladder and excellent dinghy launching.

The Aquila 70 is truly a crowning achievement.
