A new flagship can do wonders to reinvigorate a superyacht series.

That was certainly the aim last week when Azimut launched the new Magellano 30 Metri from its shipyard in Viareggio, Italy. First christened in 2009, the Magellano collection is designed for yachtsmen with a predilection for lengthy global voyages. As such, Azimut says the newest addition is fit for long-distance cruising whatever the weather conditions.

As its moniker suggests, the superyacht spans 30 meters from tip to tail, or roughly 98 feet. It follows in the footsteps of the Magellano 25 Metri , which was unveiled back in 2020. Like its 82-foot predecessor, the yacht features a mold-breaking interior by artist and architect Vincenzo De Cotiis along with an exterior by Dutch naval architect Ken Freivokh. It’s a far cry from the functional-looking vessels that kicked off the collection more than a decade ago.

Replete with sleek, modern lines, the 30 Metri sports vast glazed surfaces and teak louvers, which have become signatures of the series. Equipped with more than 750 square feet of glass, the superyacht was designed to be at one with its surroundings. In fact, the Italian builder claims seafarers will have a view of both the sky and the sea from every point on the yacht.

Spread across three decks, the yacht’s light-filled interiors are “intimate and inviting,” according to Azimut. She offers space for up to 10 guests across five cabins, as well as plenty of room for crew. Outside, meanwhile, there is an infinity terrace that promises uninterrupted ocean vistas, as well as a lavish lounge on the upper deck that’s perfect for alfresco entertaining and a Jacuzzi at the bow.

The vessel sports a second-generation Dual Mode hull that ensures stability even in tough seas while also reducing fuel consumption by 15 percent compared to a traditional hard-chine planing hull. As for power, two 1,550 hp MAN engines give the yacht a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots.

The yard also opted to incorporate elements designed to reduce the 98-footer’s environmental impact. The Hotel Mode package, for instance, comes with 100 kWh batteries that allow the vessel to stay at anchor sans emissions and noise for up to 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night.

“The new flagship is the perfect fit for the brand’s crossover line, reprising features such as generous volumes and a desire to amaze in different sea conditions, without however compromising on elegance and attention to detail,” Azimut said in a statement .

One thing is certain—this isn’t 2009’s Megellano.

Azimut Magellano 30 Metri On the Horizon

Azimut Yachts in Italy says plans for its Magellano 30 Metri—an upcoming new flagship in the Magellano line—are “currently taking shape.”

The yacht, which is expected to be about 98 feet length overall, will supersede the Magellano 25 Metri that is the current flagship in the Magellano line. The 25 is expected to launch in the next few weeks, according to the builder.

Details about the Magellano 30 Metri are sparse. She is expected to be a navetta, which Azimut says is a contemporary take on the traditional trawler. Her lines will be similar to those of her sisterships, with designer Ken Freivokh handling the design.

The yacht also will have Azimut’s Dual Mode hull, which works at displacement as well as higher speeds.

When did Azimut launch the Magellano line of yachts?

In 2009. It’s one of several lines that Azimut offers, including the Atlantis, Flybridge, S and Grande collections.

Unexpectedly striking, the teak louvres that close and complement the extensive glazed surfaces in the superstructure are a signature feature of the Magellano line. In keeping with its calling as a crossover, the new 30-metre yacht offers spacious, light-filled interiors that De Cotiis has successfully made intimate and inviting.

Freivokh and De Cotiis have designed the three decks of the new Magellano by breathing life into their shared vision of a yacht in seamless contact with the sea , from the Infinity Terrace that welcomes guests on board, to the generous terrace on the Upper Deck for socialising and enjoying the pleasure of cruising in the open air. The huge windows – over 70 square metres of glazed surfaces – also ensure uninterrupted visual continuity between the interior spaces and the surrounding natural environment, which has a metaphorical presence in every setting on the yacht, from the full-beam Owner Suite and the living space on the Main Deck to the gracious Skylounge on the Upper Deck.

Sustainability

The innovative thrust of the Magellano 30 Metri is also expressed in the choices made to reduce environmental impact. The second-generation Dual Mode hull , designed by naval architecture firm P.L.A.N.A. on a joint basis with the Azimut Yachts R&D centre, ensures an excellent level of stability, keeping fuel consumption down both at midrange speeds – even in rough seas, delivering on the promise of cruising in freedom in any conditions – as well as at higher speeds , reducing consumption in this case by about 15% compared with traditional hard chine planing hulls.

The new Magellano line flagship establishes a truly harmonious human relationship with the water, even and especially during periods spent at anchor: the Magellano 30 Metri is designed to be fitted with the Hotel Mode package, which includes 100kWh lithium batteries so that she can stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night. The result is total silence broken only by the sound of the sea.

Azimut Grande 30 METRI

Description

The 30-meter Azimut Grande 30 METRI debuted at the Boat Show in Fort Lauderdale in 2017. The design of the ship, traditionally for this shipyard, was done by famous designers Stefano Rigini and Achille Salvani. The yacht received large portholes in the cabins, the signature glazing of the cabin in the form of “shark fins” and enlarged guest cabins, which are decorated in the Italian style. The customer can create their own layout of the cabin or cabins and choose any color trim from the available options.

For outdoor recreation, there is a spacious flybridge, deck chairs in the bow and a shaded terrace with sun loungers. On the flybridge there is a dining area with a corner sofa, a control post, a bar counter, sun loungers and a jacuzzi. On the main deck there is a spacious seating area with six sofas, a galley, a dining area, a bathroom and an owner’s cabin with a separate shower and wardrobe. To get to the lower deck there are two entrances - one located in the aft of the vessel and leads to the crew cabin, and the second, which leads to the guest cabins and located in the bow of the vessel. There are 8 cabins for guests, which can accommodate up to 14 people. On the Azimut Grande 30 METRI, a tender garage is standard.

MTU diesel engines with a total capacity of 4800 hp are responsible for the ship's driving performance, and the fuel tank is designed for 12,000 liters of fuel. Despite the size and dry weight of 105 tons, the yacht can accelerate to 30 knots, and cruising speed is 22 knots.

Azimut Grande 30 METRI has been classified by A.Sea Craft and can be used for sea voyages.

Azimut launches first Magellano 30 Metri

Italian builder Azimut has launched the first Magellano 30 Metri , the flagship of the Magellano series, at its shipyard in Viareggio.

This 30 metre model has been designed by the same team that worked on its predecessor, the Magellano 25 Metri , with Ken Freivokh handling the exterior design and volumes and Vincenzo De Cotiis styling the interiors. The exterior design sports sleek, modern lines combined with vast glazed surfaces and signature teak louvres.

The new flagship was designed for an owner "who plans to enjoy long-distance voyages, whatever the weather conditions," the yard said. 

Equipped with a Dual Mode Hull, the Magellano 30 Metri offers high stability at sea and 15% reduced fuel consumption compared to traditional hard chine planing hulls. As well as offering excellent seakeeping capabilities, the yacht's design features eco-focused elements including 100kWh lithium batteries that allow her to be anchored for up to four hours per day and eight hours at night producing zero emissions. 

Interiors emphasise a connection with the sea throughout, with generous infinity terraces located on the upper deck and upon entry to the superyacht. With over 70 square metres of glass weaved into the design, indoor areas are light-filled and offer excellent views of the surrounding environment.

Debuting in 2009, Azimut’s Magellano’s line is “synonymous with stress-free cruising and extended trips in total safety”, according to the yard.
