Olympia Yacht Club

The Olympia Yacht Club was organized in 1889 as the Olympia Motor Boat Club and was reactivated in 1908 with 27 boats. By 1910, ninety members renamed the group the Olympia Yacht Club. By 1915, the club had moorings at the city dock and began leasing the boat basin from the Port of Olympia. OYC opened it’s first clubhouse in 1930, remodeled in 1952 and the present facility was built in 1957. The OYC lighthouse tower at the foot of Simmons street at the caretakers house is a remnant of the 1930's structure.

We stayed using reciprocal privileges. The facilities are excellent. The location is very convenient for the waterfront and farmers market. The dock is reasonably secure. We had a mechanical problem as we attempted to tie up. Club members were extremely helpful, kind and knowledgeable. Within the space of 15 minutes we had two recommendations for local mechanics. Everyone we met was friendly, even the owner of the boat we clipped because of our mechanical problem. We'll definitely be back.

I understand the one star reviews, but i believe things change so i will put 3 stars ti make the difference.

I'm a PhD researcher and author on a road trip. I have to drop off copies of my book at the bookstores who will sell them in California, Oregon, Washington & Vancouver. I have a friend in Olympia that I was going to meet up with but he was late and I don't know the area at all. I have a minivan, it's 20 years old, really ugly and banged up. (I'd have a Tesla if not for student loans LOL) Pulled into the parking lot for less than 20 mins, stayed in my car waiting, doing some work on my computer. There was probably 60 parking spots open, more than half of the lot was empty . I was startled by a woman who slammed on the back window of my car, thinking someone was trying to break in. It was an employee of the yacht club. She realized I was in there and apologized for hitting the window when I opened the door to speak with her. She told me it was a private parking lot and I had to leave before the police or towtruck approaches me. She was relatively nice about it and it might be a part of her job so I don't blame her whatsoever. What I do blame her for is the fact that she only approached the car because the car screams "poor" from the outside. It's a yacht club, I get it, but there are plenty of poor people that have boats. Beware if you have a shitty car or you're notably poor that you might be a victim of predatory towing. People of color and anyone with a shitty car: if you are leaving your car there and you paid for a boat slip, ensure that the office knows the make & model of your car. Even if you've written it down for them, get a verbal confirmation that they have it.

This yacht club is the worst place I have ever kept my boat! It is full of snobs that have too much time on their hands! They spend a majority of their time making the lives of others miserable. The harbor master is the rudest woman I have met in my life and she was nothing but unhelpful! The only good thing about this place is the care taker, and that is the only reason this place has one star! He is a great guy and was always willing to help everyone in the club. My advice is keep your yacht at a different yacht club that will be more welcoming.

Photo of J R.

I completely agree with the other one star review. If you like a snobby people who will stop at nothing to go behind your back and make your life a living hell, than this is the place for your boat. Otherwise, STAY AWAY!!! There are plenty of other places to store your boat around town, the price is not worth it here!

olympia yacht club address

Olympia Yacht Club’s (OYC) Annual 2023 Parade of Lighted Ships is  Saturday December 2nd   While the Parade of Lighted Ships gets underway  at 6:00 PM  spectators are urged to arrive prior to 6:00 at Olympia’s Port Plaza Park to ensure they have the opportunity to see all the decorated boats as they sail by. Starting at 5:15 PM, Santa & Mrs. Claus will make a special appearance at Port Plaza Park handing out candy canes and serving complimentary hot cocoa while supplies last.   For best viewing, it’s recommended that you get to the Port Plaza Park, 701 NW Columbia St, Olympia and dock area before 6:00 PM.

The lighted ships  sail from Percival Landing  past Port Plaza Park north along the east side of Budd Inlet to Boston Harbor. Then, boats return to Olympia by 8:00 PM along the west side of Budd Inlet.

Best viewing as they sail north is from the Port area, the tip of the Port Peninsula by Anthony’s Hearthfire restaurant  and KGY Radio, as well as along East Bay Drive north of Swantown Marina.  On the return trip from Boston Harbor good vantage points include West Bay Drive, West Bay Marina and Tugboat Annie’s.
