GO: Inside Turquoise Yachts’ new 77 metre flagship

Turquoise Yachts’ new 77 metre flagship shows off all of the Turkish yard’s skill and craft, says Clare Mahon – and a rather special hull colour

“There was something about GO’s owner that I understood from the moment he walked into the shipyard,” says Mehmet Karabeyoglu, Turquoise Yachts’ CEO.

Even by the standards of superyacht owners, this man was particularly bold and decisive – two values the shipyard head appreciates. Karabeyoglu inaugurated his shipyard in 1997 by starting a 50 metre on spec; it was the largest yacht construction in Turkey at the time. “The contract [for GO ] was all very quick because he’s a very [decisive] man. And here we are, just a year and a half later, with a brand new superyacht and our largest launch to date,” he says. As for the owner, building a 77 metre as your first yacht is one seriously bold stroke.

Turquoise had already begun building what would become its new flagship before the owner stepped in. “We always [begin] on spec because it saves owners so much time,” says Karabeyoglu. The yard hired London-based H2 Yacht Design to draw a distinctive yacht with Turquoise DNA. “After Mehmet’s partner passed away and his shares were bought by Oceanco owner Mohammed Al Barwani, the yard was looking to relaunch with a new flagship,” says Jonny Horsfield, H2’s co-founder. “ GO is the seventh yacht that we have collaborated with Turquoise on, the most recent being the 72 metre Vicky . That was our starting point and from there we updated the look, keeping the design flexible enough so that a new owner could really put a personal stamp on it.”

GO’s aluminium superstructure features sculptural curves that swoop down through the deck levels and end in an arch that plunges to the waterline. But noteworthy as these are, GO will most likely be remembered for her hull colour: a show-stopping shade called Island Turquoise. “The turquoise is a theme that’s carried through the yacht,” says Ruth Thomas from H2.

“The design concept of the yacht is based on water in motion, so shades of turquoise made sense.” While moving water is the concept and turquoise is the theme, another element is repeated throughout the yacht: a chevron-meets-basket-weave pattern that turns up carved into carpet pile or etched into the mirrored ceiling of the main saloon. “When the owner bought the yacht,” says Horsfield, “he kept the general arrangement plan but decided to up the ante on the décor and make it more lush. We only had three months to do the redesign.” Karabeyoglu says that “we added 10 tonnes of mirror-polished steel for the interior details and inlays that he wanted, so much weight that it required re-engineering the yacht”.

In the saloon, white carpet, leather-covered walls and Tanganyika veneer are topped with sculpted metal bands that recall flowing water. The windows are so many and so large that the owner, a huge sports fan, had no qualms about placing a 100 inch Sony flat-screen TV in front of one.

The main dining area is a compendium of the yacht’s decorative themes: the chevron in the flooring is in stainless steel strips that contrast with white Thassos stone; the circular dining table is edged by a band of turquoise enamelled metal by Solomon & Wu, contrasting with a band of polished macassar ebony, which in turn contrasts with a central element in white onyx; and the table’s shiny surfaces reflect the dizzying pattern of a chandelier made up of short ropes of glass. “It took us weeks to install the chandelier because every pendant has its own LED source,” says Thomas. “We had the same company, Lasvit, make the wall sconces.”

But all this is just preamble for the Dale Chihuly sculpture that hangs at the centre of the foyer staircase: three storeys of blue-green blown glass that looks like a magnificent conglomerate of paramecia or a coral reef crustacean that you don’t want to step on barefoot. In fact, Chihuly calls the nearly 500 pieces that make up this giant work “icicles”.

“To be sure that the sculptures fit – they aren’t technically chandeliers because they are not lit from within – and to decide where to place the thin steel rods that keep it from swaying, we built a full-scale model of the staircase at Chihuly’s studio in Seattle, Washington,” says H2’s James Bermudez. Chihuly’s own glass engineers prepared the custom stabilisation each piece required for its unique installation. “We then numbered the pieces and shipped them to Istanbul. Just unpacking them took days.” It was well worth the effort: hanging the sculpture in the stairwell brings Chihuly’s work close enough to touch and transforms the drudgery of walking up stairs into a truly memorable experience.

GO’s  seven guest cabins feature king sized beds and décor in tones that vary from suite to suite. Thanks to a door at the end of the long and wide hallway the final two cabins can be used as a larger suite with separate day and night spaces. The en suite guest baths all have heated floors in turquoise Amazonite and white Thassos stone and all of the guest showers are backed with eye-catching splash walls by Italian artist Alex Turco.

The owner’s suite on the upper deck has some notable glasswork in the shape of huge curved glass windows that are punctuated by thin mullions covered in bevelled mirrors. “I have to credit Turquoise for the fabulous view in this suite,” says Horsfield. “At first, our design was busy, with too many mullions. I wanted the view but didn’t think that curved glass this large could be manufactured.” “These are among the largest pieces of laminated, chemically hardened curved glass that have ever been mounted on a yacht,” Karabeyoglu points out. “Just five panes to make this whole sweep, the same arrangement on the bridge. And all of this is made in Turkey.”

The centrally placed bed and oval console table behind it both feature stitched leather detailing designed to recall rugby balls, one of the owner’s favourite sports. The view from the suite over the owner’s private foredeck and beyond is fabulous – but still faces stiff competition on game nights from a large flat-screen TV concealed in a cabinet in front of the central window. Cheering for the owner’s team will be by far the loudest sound thanks to Turquoise’s engine installation: just 38 decibels were registered in the guest and owner’s cabins when the yacht was under way.

On top of a private study, large his and hers dressing rooms and separate en suites, the owners have a private foredeck complete with their own spa pool. This huge sweep of space feels like a ledge over the sea thanks to removable carbon fibre railings and a telescopic mast that disappears into the deck to leave the view totally unencumbered. More turquoise, this time mixed with golden mosaic tiles, lines the five metre long sundeck spa pool fed by a waterfall that cascades from a spout in the mast. “The owner wants to keep this as a party deck,” says Bermudez. “The onyx, teak and polished steel bars have TV screens by Aqualite Outdoor and all furniture is loose except for the lounging couch aft: its base hides the extra ceiling height we allotted to the gym on the bridge deck below so that people can really run on the treadmill.”

The yacht has a lift that runs from the sundeck all the way down to the tender garage, which has a 10.6 metre long hull door made by Dutch company Newthex. “We are not an assembly shipyard,” says Karabeyoglu. “We build our own hulls and are very hands-on in engineering and naval architecture, but there are some hings that other companies can do better and faster than we can. In the case of Newthex, we just have to tell them the opening size of the doors we want and they do the rest. We have a very good working relationship.”

Locating the tender garage amidships means that the yacht’s huge 162 square metre beach club is purely for enjoyment and doesn’t do double duty as a loading platform. “The beach club was a real selling point for the yacht,” says Horsfield. “The owner dedicated special attention to it.” And it shows. The club area is accessed from the aft deck and has a nine metre wide transom that opens flush to the floor and a seven metre wide side shell door; indoors and outdoors blend perfectly.

A storage area for watersports equipment and a fully stocked backlit bar in onyx and macassar mean that both the water bug and the barfly are well cared for. The aesthete will appreciate the art panel by Alex Turco, while the sports fan will be drawn to the 100 inch flat-screen TV opposite it. There was even space for massage and steam rooms. “This is not what you’d call a plain vanilla yacht,” says Karabeyoglu. “Not to build, nor to design. But we like complicated jobs because we like to show the world what we can do.” Whether or not you know the intricacies of this spectacular yacht, with looks as bold as the minds that produced her,  GO  certainly does the job.

Heart of glass

GO’s  owner suggested that H2 Yacht Design contact the renowned American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly for a statement piece for the yacht’s central staircase. Chihuly has been boldly and colourfully reinventing glass sculpture since the 1970s and his outdoor installations as well as his individual pieces have won wide acclaim. “The client first visited Chihuly in Seattle in early 2017, meeting Dale in person and touring the Chihuly Ballard Studio,” says Ruth Thomas of H2. “They have their current projects in build there and do full-scale mock-ups.”

After determining the basic design, next came the palette. The predominant colour was to be GO’s turquoise with shades of blue, white and clear glass. Chihuly blew “icicles” in these tones for approval. The piece was almost fully developed when the client made a second visit to see the mock-up of the stairs and get an understanding of the scale of the piece. The final result is Sea Spray Chandelier. At 5.5m high by 90cm wide, it weighs 435kg and incorporates 468 individually blown “icicles” hanging on a vertical spine spanning three decks. “Chihuly recommended the sculpture be lit externally for a dramatic wash of light over the entire piece,” continues Thomas. “We developed high-output LED lights and integrated mirrors into the design of the stairs so guests can see Sea Spray Chandelier from all angles.” GO does have a lift but using it would mean missing the show.

The Made-to-Measure Mega Yacht Charter Experience

A vacation aboard a mega yacht signifies the best type of travel that the world has to offer. Accordingly, many of the private mega yachts do not publicly advertise their yacht charter availability, so please contact us for the full list of the finest boats currently available. Mega yachts are bespoke and individual in every way, often including the brokerage of the charter. You can also use our search box above to see a selection of some of the existing charter yachts and prices.

For your vacation you will receive a highly customised yacht charter itinerary and program with your individual wishes always coming first. Made-to-measure mega yacht charter itineraries, whether in the Mediterranean or Caribbean , are hand created based upon our customers’ demands, with professional assistance of our knowledgeable charter consultants. When you choose a boat to rent, your large yacht holiday will be personalised right down to the smallest details, from daily menus and beverages equivalent to those offered in Michelin-stared restaurants, right throughout to your favourite music selection and entertainment. A specific itinerary is carefully discussed to the smallest details, although it can be adjusted on daily basis based upon your mood and desires. Maybe you had a day-trip planned for the day, but after waking up in the morning you do not feel like walking around busy towns anymore, and instead you just want to relax on board, dipped in the Jacuzzi or sunbathe with a good book and a cocktail on hand. Everything can be arranged! The Captain and his crew will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything proceeds according to your requirements.

Mega Yacht LADY-S

Your experience aboard a mega yacht could be seen as a multiplication of what you might have had on smaller luxury charter yachts. Not only that the yachts are bigger (much bigger, in fact huge), the service aboard is immaculate and extremely professional. The amenities are carefully hand-picked, custom made and of the utmost quality and craftsmanship. The food and beverages are sourced from the best producers and once again, of the highest quality. A private mega yacht charter represents simply the best of the best.

What does it Cost for a Charter Vacation?

If you haven’t chartered a mega yacht before you might wonder what could be the cost of renting such an opulent vessel for a week. Priced from about USD350,000 - USD400,000 per week right up to around USD1,000,000.00 and over you can take part in a one-of-a-kind, completely custom-made, lavish and bountiful vacation aboard a mega yacht. Tipping is also customary on mega yachts. The crew work tirelessly to ensure your vacation is a success. If you believe the service aboard the mega yacht, has been outstanding, a gratuity equal to 10% of the charter fee is acceptable. If the crew has been beyond exceptional, a higher discretionary figure may be warranted. A tip is generally distributed equally among the crew, by the captain. Whatever the price, this is the very best the world can offer in luxury travel experiences that no other vacation type will ever compare to.

The Charter Destinations

Luxury yachts are constantly on the move and available in various destinations around the globe. Distance is not an obstacle in this day and age and your entire journey to the yacht can be organised, including a private jet charter or a transfer from the airport to the nearest port where you will be greeted by the crew ready to accompany you aboard.

The most sought-after destinations for luxury mega yacht charter holidays are the Mediterranean during northern hemisphere’s summer season and the Caribbean during the winter season. Northern Europe is also increasingly popular as well as the more exotic South Pacific and Asia. A luxury charter enables you to have exclusive access to beautiful white-sand beaches and uninhabited islands, crystal-clear waters of turquoise and emerald-green, quaint little ports and historical towns or vibrant metropolitan cities.

From time to time selected yachts announce their intention to embark on a world-tour, with an approximate itinerary listing all the various stages and destinations. You can join the world tour at any stage, if availability permits, and stay aboard the yacht from one week, several weeks or even months, exploring the many wonders of this world. Some expedition-type yachts venture out to distant and remote ‘corners’ of the world, offering a very unique holiday for the more adventurous. These yachts may be equipped with high-tech laboratories, submarines and other necessary equipment to explore the given area - which may well be even Antarctica.

What is a Mega Yacht Exactly?

An exceptional build quality and the finest craftsmanship are the main characteristics of any charter mega yacht. These boats have been immaculately designed and constructed, providing the highest level of reliability, safety and comfort. Some of the most important builders that have launched mega yachts to date include: Feadship , Lurssen , Blohm+Voss , Dream Ship Victory , Amels , oceAnco , Pride Mega Yachts , Perini Navi, Nobiskrug , Royal Huisman, to name a few…

There is a continuously growing selection of these super-large yachts available on the market, however many of these yachts are private and they do not advertise charter availability. If you see a superyacht or a mega yacht that catches your eye, don’t hesitate to send us an email to discuss a possibility of a charter vacation. Owners of these vessels like to keep their ultra-luxurious yachts for private use, however many would consider an occasional yacht rental.

As the world of design continues to evolve, so does the complexity of mega yachts on the market. Naval architects and yacht designers are always on the hunt for the latest in technology, materials, design features and amenities. One of the current design trends is the increased use of glass allowing for better connection with the sea and the surrounding nature. There is a huge boom in aft and side decks expanding into balconies, massive beach clubs and wave piercing hulls. Practically no mega yacht is launched without a Spa Pool (or numerous Jacuzzis), an entire deck dedicated to the Owner’s use, a large tender garage, zero speed stabilisers and an abundance of spaces used for entertaining, relaxing, sunbathing or dining.

These boats are renowned for their ‘special features’ and customisation which could include anything from an entire deck area dedicated to a spa, complete with a hammam steam room, beauty saloon, massage room, a sauna; a helicopter deck that when not in use can transform into a soccer field or a basketball court, or even a discotheque. There is an increasing number of exclusive water toys, such as submarines, water jet packs, golf tees, waterslides or climbing walls.

A Mega Yacht Charter

The pinnacle of luxury yachts, a mega yacht charter holiday is regarded as the most opulent and extravagant ways of travelling. Although there is a fine line that divides mega yachts from superyachts , and although different terminology tends to be favoured on different sides of the Atlantic, vessels referred to as ‘mega yachts’ are usually well above 60 metres (200 feet), with some yachts reaching three times this size; an example being the 162.5m Eclipse yacht or the 180m (590’4’’) mega yacht AZZAM . Rumours have it that a new 222m mega yacht TRIPLE DEUCE is also in making waves in the nautical world. Luxury mega yachts provide no less than impeccable naval architecture and design, state-of-the-art marine technology, lavish interior and exterior decor, the best in guest entertainment and an amazing array of recreational amenities and toys. The crew aboard these vessels have been selected upon strict requirements, based on their previous yachting experience, references and acquired professional skills. One of the main characteristics of a private mega yacht charter is the exceptional level of professional and refined service, respectful of privacy and high-demands of customers.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Mega-Yachts (and Their Owners)

Question number one: do they need more friends.

mega yacht go

Yacht-setters, i.e. the maritime equivalent to jet-setters, circle the globe on mega yachts, the price tags of which can easily equal the yearly-budgets for a small nation. But don’t think it’s easy being rich — these gazillionairs have their yachting woes . The Biggie: when their mega yacht breaks down in a foreign port.

I asked Sean Blue, Head of Global Watercraft for AIG Private Client Group (which represents the owners of more that 300 80-foot-plus super yachts worldwide), to tell me about mega yachts and their owners .

Who are the owners of super yachts? I can’t divulge our clients, but I can share that mega yacht owners include CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, captains of industry, entertainers, engineers, inventors, rulers, owners of manufacturing companies, billionaires, and generally people who are leaders in their fields. Mega yachts are generally defined as yachts greater than 100 feet or longer, all the way up to the current largest yacht in the world — AZZAM, which is 180.6 meters long (594 feet).

Tell me about the distances these yachts can navigate. This depends on the specifications of the yacht and what it was designed for . Some are not designed to travel long distances and instead are built for speed, or for local cruising, or with maybe enough range to make a trans-Atlantic crossing safely. But others are built with an incredible amount of range in mind and can travel some 8,000 nautical miles without refueling, while others are designed to explore arctic regions, or both. Circumnavigations are not uncommon and large yachts regularly make ocean transits — whether cruising from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, or en route to Fiji across the Pacific. The only real limitations are time and money. And for most mega yacht owners, it’s just time.

Are these really ships — how do you differentiate a yacht from a ship? Some of them really are ships and are built that way, but the difference lies in how they are used. A yacht is a vessel built for the pleasure of her owner. The best yachts are built to commercial ship standards in terms of seaworthiness, safety, and technology; often times even a higher standard.

How about the price tag for these yachts? $1,000,000 a meter is the rule of thumb, but this can vary depending on the design, builder, systems, interiors and a great many other things. The largest yacht currently in the world, AZZAM, is reported to have cost over $700M to build. In addition to the yachts themselves are the interior décors and furnishings, wine collections, fine art collections, and its “toys” and tenders (support vessels).

What happens when a yacht breaks down on the other side of the globe? Mega yachts are managed and run by highly trained professionals from the captains and crews to the yacht managers that are often hired to manage all the aspects of owning and running a yacht. Not unlike the world of aviation, maintenance is ongoing, so an all-out breakdown on the water whereby you have a dead ship is a relatively rare occurrence. Fire aboard a yacht is actually a little more common, which is the primary source of large losses on yachts that AIG has seen, and something to which we pay a lot of attention by providing shipboard fire training for crews and local firefighters in seaside communities. Whether it’s a breakdown or a fire, after the initial response to save lives and property, the yacht may call for assistance from a neighboring ship or vessel and in some cases call a towing or salvage company for assistance to get the yacht back to the nearest safest port to evaluate damage and decide on next steps. That is usually when specialty insurers are called to facilitate the logistics and repairs.

What if it just needs work? Most of the work performed on a super yacht is performed by its crew. If there is need beyond that, specialists can be flown in from all around the world. Larger yachts are like big commercial buildings with air conditioning systems, watermakers, plumbing, electrical, hydraulics, refrigeration, and virtually any mechanical system you can imagine. If expertise is not available locally, you get the experts to come to you.

Where do they go for repairs? The best local place they can find that can address the yacht’s specific need. There are numerous facilities around the world that can accommodate and repair mega yachts, but as you get farther from the Western world, these facilities may not specialize or deal with yachts everyday and may be more directed toward commercial work and a more industrial level of care and finish quality. Often in these situations, repairs are made for the safety and seaworthiness of the yacht and cosmetics are handled at a later date at a facility specializing in the high level of yacht fitting and finish.

Does work need to be done on dry land? Some works can be accomplished while the yacht is in the water , even if it involves work to the bottom or propulsion or stabilizer equipment and that may sometimes be a safer and less expensive route if it’s feasible, but some maintenance and repair does require a haul out on land or dry dock.

How much does a typical yacht weigh? There really is not a typical yacht, and the weight can vary greatly. Yachts are generally measured in gross tonnage, which is a volumetric measurement.  A yacht at the smaller end of the Mega Yacht segment, such as a 112-foot Westport, displaces 275,000 pounds and carries a gross tonnage of 207 gross tonnes. AZZAM, the largest yacht in the world, which is  590 feet long and was built by Lurssen in Germany, is reported to be over 13,000 gross tonnes.

Are there places in the U.S. that repair yachts? The U.S. is blessed with many great facilities around the country and on every coast that are capable of repairing and refitting yachts and mega yachts.   Some are boat and ship yards that are also involved in building yachts, while some are mixed between private and commercial work, and others cater exclusively to the mega yacht community. South Florida is certainly an area of concentration for these facilities, but not the only region where one can find them.

Are there cranes capable of lifting these heavy yachts? Travel lifts can accommodate some pretty large yachts, but at a certain size, a dry-dock might be necessary and in these cases, this can certainly limit your options on where your yacht can be hauled and repaired.

An aside: Marine Group Boat Works in San Diego caters to mega yacht owners. Its six-story traveling crane is capable of lifting 665-tons. Each tire (there are 16) stands a foot taller than a grown man.  The crane is said to be the strongest mobile crane in the U.S. It made record books when the 626 ton mega-yacht Ronin (previously owned by billionaire Larry Ellison – now owned by Venezuelan banker Victor Vargas ), became the largest private yacht ever to be lifted by a moving crane.

Project Sparta: The Megayacht Of The Future

The private yacht that offers everything.

The perfect marriage of bespoke luxury and ultra-efficient machinery, Project Sparta is the megayacht of the future. At 67-meters in length, her clever design asks for no compromises in either comfort or utility. Once finished, she will be the largest steel displacement motor yacht Heesen has ever built. The Dutch shipyard has announced that the construction of the superyacht began in Oct 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of yacht crafting, Heesen has collaborated with Arcon Yachts of Monaco and Winch Designs to bring the floating masterpiece to life. Arcon Yachts serves as the Owner’s technical advisors and project managers of the full-custom yacht’s construction. Andrew Winch’s interior and exterior design ingenuity has maximized every inch of the vessel’s space while still maintaining an elevated look. Project Sparta features Winch’s signature sleek lines and ultra-modern yet classic touches.

More than just her looks, Project Sparta utilizes Perry van Oossanen’s patented fast displacement hull form (FDHF) to guarantee a hyper-efficient yet smooth and comfortable journey. She has an internal volume of approximately 1,200 gross tons, and her elegant engine room houses two MTU 12V4000 M65R diesel engines. The mega-yacht will reach a top speed of 16 knots and cut through the seas with a transatlantic cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her crew will operate her from a raised pilothouse, lending itself to a more streamlined and sporty profile.

THE PRIVATE YACHT THAT OFFERS EVERYTHING

Project Sparta comfortably hosts 12 guests, two staff members, and 14 crew members. The bridge deck is reserved for the Owner and is composed of two suites and a private outdoor lounge. The main deck houses four guest suites. Winch Designs has shown off his utilitarian side by incorporating a sliding partition that seamlessly transforms two of the front-facing suites into a full beam VIP suite–a feature unusual for a vessel of its size. There is no wasted space and no compromises in comfort found on this go-anywhere-sized vessel. Winch Designs has rightfully deemed Project Sparta a “pocket mega-yacht.”

The stepped aft deck houses a 6.5-meter Infinity pool, and the top sundeck features a bar and jacuzzi. An offset spiral staircase wraps around a glass elevator that connects all three decks. The lower deck is home to crew quarters and a wellness sanctuary that includes an oval jacuzzi, sauna, gym, and steam room.

PROJECT SPARTA EMBARKS ON THE ULTIMATE MAIDEN VOYAGE

Project Sparta’s maneuverability means nearly unlimited opportunities to discover the world’s most exotic and far-flung destinations. Her 2023 maiden voyage will include stops at shipyards in the following most desirable destinations:

1.) THE MEDITERRANEAN

The Mediterranean’s gorgeous coastlines will perfectly complement the yacht’s sleek and super sporty profile. Optimal mooring opportunities abound in this premier yachting destination, with possible dockings along the Amalfi Coast or perhaps a long tour through Northern Sardinia for breathtaking views and some of the  best cuisine  Italy has to offer.

2.)  FJORDS OF NORWAY AND THE LOFOTEN ISLES

Project Sparta was destined to navigate Norway’s vast network of waterways. Her compact size and hyper-efficient machinery will allow her to move deftly through the deep fjords, letting her get up close and personal with its magnificent glaciers. The landscape drenched with untamed mountains and wildlife will offer an abundance of activities for the owner, including fishing, mountaineering, kayaking, and canyoning.

3.) THE CARIBBEAN AND BAHAMAS

During the winter months, Project Sparta and her Owner will warm themselves along the sun-soaked coastlines of the Caribbean. Here, there will be plenty of opportunities to sunbathe on the yacht’s spacious decks, snorkel in the crystalline waters, and take in the warm breeze while entertaining friends and family at the top deck bar. Project Sparta will have no trouble maneuvering between the more than 700 islands the Bahamas has to offer–each with its distinct personality and offerings.

4.) AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

The Land Down Under’s vast coastline includes opportunities to explore the rugged island of Tasmania, visit the idyllic Whitsunday archipelago, and of course, scuba diving at the iconic Great Barrier Reef. New Zealand is almost ubiquitous with natural beauty, and no voyage would be complete without a visit to the idyllic paradise. Its rolling green highlands, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic glaciers will provide an abundance of outdoor activities for Project Sparta and her owner.

THE MEGAYACHT CHARTER OF THE FUTURE

Project Sparta is destined to influence the future design of mega-yacht charters. Its devotion to ultra-luxury design serves as the perfect template for the ultimate mega-yacht: a spacious and comfortable interior yet compact enough to navigate smaller passageways around the world. Those looking to charter yachts will want the option of being able to go anywhere without compromise.

With our luxury travel concierge , whether you already own a yacht or are looking to charter, each journey is personally customized and guaranteed to exceed all expectations. Embark on the voyage of a lifetime, become a member to book the ultimate luxury yacht charter.

Megayachts for sale are often built to completely custom standards for the wealthiest yacht owners. Very often these savvy yacht owners have owned production yachts and thus know what they want in a yacht. This is the ULTIMATE form of personalized expression in the luxury market. These lucky folks pursue the ULTIMATE lifestyle of YACHTING!

Mega Yachts for Sale Styles

The most popular form of mega yachts (or superyachts) are Tri-deck yachts. Understandably, tri deck yachts feature three levels or more of deck space! The main deck commonly features a large and covered aft deck for dining, a spacious salon with formal dining forward then an on-deck master stateroom , which typically offers you plenty of viewing windows.

Going up a deck we find an enclosed sky lounge (typically behind the main helm or steering station), and then a deck further is usually a sundeck with open-air amenities for you to enjoy plenty of entertaining and guest space.

These yachts are the most popular yachts for large families and chartering because of their huge volume. Most of the larger ones even offer an elevator between decks and a pool. Therefore, Tri deck yachts start at around 90’ and go up from there to the largest mega-yachts in the world!

Some smaller tri deck yachts (90’-130’) are designed to go fast (25 knots or so). As they grow larger (and heavier), tri deck yachts gain the ability to cross oceans and thus at slower speeds for better range and fuel economy since there is no where you can fill up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Since having a happy crew is essential, so usually a third of the boat is for crew quarters and either incorporated at the back (aft) or forward (fore) area of the lower deck with privacy access, so that the owner/guests and crew enjoy private space.

RAISED PILOTHOUSE & LARGE PILOTHOUSE YACHTS

Raised pilothouse yachts are typically designed with two deck levels.  In other words,  a main deck level, starting with a sizable aft deck settee for dining. Moving through sliding doors, you will find a large salon and dining area with an open galley ‘country kitchen’ (with casual seating) forward.

Owner and guest staterooms are on a lower level with 3 or 4 staterooms. The master stateroom (owner stateroom) is typically full-beam , as is the VIP stateroom (typically the most forward). In addition, smaller guest staterooms (usually twin berths) are usually found on either side of a hallway.

The top deck is the fly bridge area , which is spacious and open. In addition, it often features a hardtop (fixed top for shade) and such amenities as a jacuzzi tub. A raised pilothouse is usually found on the same level as the fly bridge area, whereas a pilothouse yacht features an enclosed steering station on the main deck level. Raised pilothouse yachts (such as the Westport 112′) and pilothouse yachts (also known as a flush deck pilothouse yacht) are immensely popular in the US and Mediterranean areas due to their versatility and popular layout. These yachts often can achieve speeds of 25 knots plus and are usually not seen over 125’ (38m).

LARGE PERFORMANCE YACHTS, LARGE EXPRESS CRUISERS AND LARGE EXPRESS YACHTS ARE ALSO CONSIDERED MEGA YACHTS FOR SALE

This category of large yachts focuses on style, performance and enjoying fast daytrips. Large express yachts are typically very sleek and stylish; featuring a main deck devoted to both sun-worshipping and a casual joint salon area and helm. After that, Owner/guest accommodations are found below consisting of 3–4 staterooms plus a crew area (often found towards the back behind the engine room). Large express cruisers are popular on the US east coast and in the Mediterranean area. These yachts can be found up to 150’ (45m) with speeds up to 50 knots !

LARGE SAILING YACHTS

Large sailing yachts combine the luxury of fine living with the excitement and unlimited range enjoyed by the wind. Modern technology has allowed for exciting performance and effortless operation (by virtue of hydraulic winches and roller furling) with tremendous sail areas. Most large sailing yachts offer a deck salon forward of twin steering stations, along with an added salon and dining area below with luxurious living accommodations plus crew quarters. Also, large sailing yachts are limited by the draft of where they can travel.  For instance, some have keels which can be raised for shallow draft cruising. Most large sailing yachts are designed as a sloop (or cutter), ketch or schooner rigs .

EXPEDITION & LONG-RANGE YACHTS

Expedition yachts are a category of mega yachts for sale which refer to larger long-range yachts. These designs usually feature a commercial styled ‘look’. Also, a handful of commercial vessels have converted into yachts. In addition, some expedition yachts carry sport fishing boats for exciting fishing in remote areas. In either case, expedition yachts designed to travel our wonderful world in search of adventure and places which cannot be easily cruised. These often carry sizeable tenders (auxiliary boats) for adventuring.

LARGE SPORT FISHING YACHTS

Large sport fishing yachts and yacht fishers are a small category of large yachts designed for avid fishing enthusiasts. Most large sport fishers feature an enclosed fly bridge which doubles as a sky lounge. Features include large diesel engines for speeds of twenty knots plus and comfort which allows for four staterooms plus a crew area. Yacht fishers combine the amenities and features found on large motor yachts with a large cockpit area for fishing and water sports. Large sport fishing yachts and yacht fishers predominate the US east and west coasts. They are, however, extremely rare above 100’.

Mark Zuckerberg's Shiny New $300M Diesel-Powered Mega Yacht Casts A Big Question Mark On His Climate Hero Status

I n a move that has raised eyebrows, Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg has recently added a $300 million diesel-powered mega-yacht to his collection of high-end vehicles, despite his public advocacy for climate change. The vessel, currently anchored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, starkly contrasts his climate-friendly stance.

The Launchpad: Zuckerberg’s newest acquisition, a mega-yacht named “Launchpad,” made its way to Fort Lauderdale last Monday. The colossal 287-foot vessel, manufactured by renowned Dutch yacht builder Feadship, embarked on its journey from the Netherlands on February 29, reported ZeroHedge.

The yacht, a design masterpiece by Espen Øino International, is the largest ever built by Feadship. Globally, it holds the 45th spot among the world’s largest mega-yachts. Equipped with 4 MTU engines, the “Launchpad” operates as a large-displacement diesel vessel, according to SuperYacht Times.

Climate Change Advocacy Under Scrutiny: SuperYacht Times reports that the yacht operates with “4 MTU engines, enabling a top speed of 24 knots.” This indicates that the vessel is propelled by large-displacement diesel engines, presenting a contradiction for the billionaire known for advocating climate change initiatives.

More From Forbes

Despite wars and sanctions, superyacht market continues recent growth.

The Phi has been detained in Canary Wharf since March 2022.

A superyacht is a status symbol and the ultimate pleasure boat. What ordinary people envisage doing on cruise ships, the super-rich do on their mega-yachts. Space and change of scenery have appealed to humans from time immemorial. However, with luxury yacht ownership requiring vast sums of disposable income, one would think that factors putting the global economy under pressure, such as inflation, Houthi terrorists and Somali pirates attacking ships in the Red Sea, sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and before that, the COVID-19 pandemic, would slow down the demand for superyachts. Instead, despite severe disruptions, mainly because of the post-Ukraine 2022 Russian invasion sanctions, with billions sloshing around in the global economy, demand for these vessels has reached a high point, driven by changes in the tastes of the ultra-rich, innovative new uses for superyachts, and the number of buyers able to splurge on such craft.

Expensive Mega-Toys The unique uses of a superyacht are driven by the size and crew demands that separate it from a regular yacht. A superyacht is considered to be a pleasure vessel larger than 24m (80ft) with a full-time captain and crew. This is a costly outlay. There are added costs for not including maintenance, fuel, and expensive power plant, navigation, and communications gear.

The desire for seclusion and social distancing exhibited by the rich since the 2020 pandemic lends itself perfectly to these large, customizable ships that can be taken out to sea. A fully crewed ship is also needed to keep up with for new trend in exploration and environmental sailing, with boat owners venturing outside of the Mediterranean and Caribbean to experience more varied habitats. Other luxury sectors are taking note of these trends driving demand for superyachts, with hotel chains like The Four Seasons and The Ritz-Carlton aiming to offer bespoke superyacht experiences by 2025. By introducing this option, hotel chains are responding to the increased market demand for exploration while creating an experience that is more exclusive and private than a luxury cruise.

Demand has also been driven by an expanding number of prospective superyacht buyers as the number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals continues to increase globally. The growth is primarily driven by American buyers, with significant potential in regions like China and Southeast Asia, where ultra-rich buyers with disposable income are growing at a faster pace than they are in the West. This increase in wealthy customers in Southeast Asia, combined with miles of islands and coastlines, creates the conditions for a robust scene for superyachts in the area. The emergence of a new customer base wealthy enough to purchase super- and mega-yachts has made the industry resilient in the face of government sanctions against one of the industry’s largest consumer bases: Russian oligarchs.

Wwe raw results winners and grades as the rock and cm punk return, its contest emerging fashion designers find support at trieste.

Target: Russia Beginning in the early 2000s, Russian billionaires developed a taste for luxury superyachts, with some like Roman Abramovich (who is reported to own 16 vessels , including the Aquamarine, Eclipse, Garcon, Halo, Pelorus, Solaris and Sussurroo), Alexei Mordashov ( Lady M and Nord ) and Eduard Khudainatov ( Scheherazade , Amadea , Crescent ) placing orders for multiple vessels. According to Superyacht News, an industry publication, Russians account for a significant piece of the world's superyacht market. Their estimated share represents about 10% of superyachts exceeding 40 meters in length. The percentage of Russian ownership rises even further for mega-yachts exceeding 80 meters, where Russians hold the number two spot globally, owning 20% of these vessels. Research by Boat International estimates the contribution of Russian buyers to the global superyacht order book (valued between €35 and €40 billion) to be €3.9 billion.

The popularity of superyachts among Russia’s wealthy has caused them to become a focus of the sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Alongside traditional targets, including Russian financial holdings, banks, and energy, the assets of oligarchs are actively being seized and frozen by Western powers when possible through initiatives like the Russian Elites, Proxies, and Oligarchs (REPO) task force launched by the G7 and the U.S. Treasury’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Rewards (KARR) program.

The seizure of superyachts as assets will likely continue through the end of the invasion of Ukraine and possibly beyond. Recently, there have been increasing calls to sell or transfer these assets, allowing Ukraine to use or sell them to compensate for the damages caused by the war.

Europe Suffers Even though the superyacht industry has a sizeable consumer base in Russia, the companies building and managing these yachts are primarily based in Western Europe. Many of these boats are built by shipbuilders such as Lürssen in Germany and Heesen Yachts and Oceanco in the Netherlands. This has led one of the shipyards, Damen, to sue the Dutch government over damages it claims it suffered from the EU sanctions. Additionally, companies like Burgess in the UK, Imperial Yachts and Edmiston in Monaco, and Moran Yacht & Ship in the US, in charge of servicing, managing, and brokering superyachts, are also concentrated in the West.

While Western shipyards and management companies may lose revenue because of sanctions and asset seizure of the Russian oligarchs, keeping the yachts frozen generates additional costs for the countries where they are being held. Some Western countries devised a solution to ease the burden on taxpayers, granting owners and their representatives special licenses to pay for the frozen vessels. Notably, France and Spain have allowed the billionaire owners of at least four mega-yachts to pay for their upkeep. In the UK, the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has allowed the management company Burgess to pay for pre-sanction crew salaries of a yacht frozen in the UK.

Though the media associated superyachts with Russian oligarchs, this archetypal image of a superyacht owner may soon grow obsolete if the sanctions regime remains or even strengthens, causing multi-million dollar losses to the industry. Instead, growth in the sector is driven by a new class of rich being created in places like the United States and the Pacific Rim, seeking luxury lifestyles that can be provided by a superyacht. The superyacht industry will capitalize on the unprecedented wave of demand to increase its resilience in the stormy global security and economic environment.

Mark Zuckerberg’s $300million ‘birthday present’ mega yacht arrives in US – it even has its own $30m ‘wingman’ boat

FACEBOOK founder Mark Zuckerberg has shown off his wealth at sea, bringing his multimillion-dollar yacht to the United States just weeks before his birthday.

After rumors the billionaire was looking to invest in a yacht began circulating, Zuckerberg was quick to snag a $300 million mega yacht complete with its own $30 million partner boat.

Mark Zuckerberg's $300 million mega yacht arrived in port just weeks before the billionaire's 40th birthday

He was seen in the Netherlands touring Project 1010, a Russian-commissioned mega yacht, in early March.

Due to sanctions involved in importing the vessel to the United States, delivery of Zuckerberg's multimillion-dollar boat was delayed.

It was first spotted in home waters on March 20.

The 387-foot-long vessel docked at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with its chrome finish reflecting a harsh sun.

Project 1010 made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands after receiving special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg's birthday, which is on May 14, raising questions about whether it could be a gift to mark the occasion.

The mega vessel is not far off the size of Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos' $500 million 417-foot tall mega yacht, Koru, which was spotted in the same state in November 2023.

The Abeona, his mega yacht's support vessel, a 264-foot garage to hold Bezos' luxury cars, private helicopter, and jet skis, was docked at a slip four miles away.

To put into perspective the additional costs Zuckerberg is looking at, Bezos reportedly bankrolled a $16,500 per week bill for Koru to stay at the port, part of the $25 million in annual costs the ship will rack up.

The Meta, formerly Facebook, founder reportedly makes between $6 million and $12 million each day, equating to an estimated yearly earning of more than $3 billion.

In 2018, Zuckerberg earned roughly $1.7 million an hour, according to previous Business Insider calculations.

By 2020, he ranked as the fourth richest person on the planet.
