Situated on a gently sloping hillside overlooking Wilson Lake in northwest Alabama, Turtle Point is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design playing along the rolling tree-lined landscape. With very few fairway bunkers, the landing areas are narrowed by tall pines with exposed pinestraw underneath, conjuring up images of Augusta National. The par-3 eighth roughly resembles the 12th at Augusta as it plays over water to a shallow green angled away from the player and guarded by several small bunkers. Turtle Point is currently ranked fourth on our Best in Alabama list.

100 Greatest: The course was part of Golf Digest's original 200 Toughest Courses list from 1967-'68.

Best in State: Ranked third, 2011-'14. Ranked fourth, 2017-'24. Ranked seventh, 2015-'16. 2023-'24 ranking: 4th.

Not only is the Golf Course exceptional, but the Club’s location on the banks of the Tennessee River makes it a destination in itself. The Golf Course was designed by famed architect, Robert Trent Jones Sr. and was completed in 1961. Blessed by its location, membership and staff, Turtle Point is an experience that is unequalled in the Southeast. After one visit, we’re certain that you will agree. Located along the banks of the Tennessee River and Wilson Lake, Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club is known not only for having one of the top golf courses in the state of Alabama, but also for its efforts to create a habitat for wildlife. Designed by world renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the course is known for its natural topography and challenging layout. The natural topography of the site overlooking the Tennessee River required very little earth movement. Mr. Jones simply had to reveal the masterpiece already in place. Today, it is obvious that he achieved his goal. A golf course architect of legendary status, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. holds the acclaim as one of the most prolific and innovative course designers of all time.  The first golf course architect inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Jones was the first to introduce extensive teeing areas and expansive greens fostering unlimited variation in play.  During more than six decades, Jones designed or remodeled more than 500 courses in 45 states and 35 countries, with some of the world’s most famous among them. With his oft-quoted philosophy to make every hole a hard par but an easy bogey, he also had a profound impact on tournament golf. The course has been the host site of the SEC Championship, the State Amateur Championship, the Southern Amateur as well as other notable events over its 50 plus year history. The Country Club was certified in environmental planning by Audubon International in 2006. It was the first golf course in Alabama to receive the designation of Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.  The golf course has set aside 35 acres to manage as wildlife habitat. In addition, the country club has 55 acres of woodland on the east side of its property that creates prime wildlife habitat.

These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit.
