Custom Yacht Burgees

Custom Yacht Burgees manufactured to a clubs or individuals own design and colour. Make sure your vessel stands out by having a custom burgee created.

Burgees can be manufactured by either digitally printing your design and colours onto plain 115gsm Knitted Polyester fabric or can be hand sewn using pre coloured 155gsm Woven Polyester fabric to create the burgee. All usual flag finishing’s are available too, so when the burgee arrives it is ready to fly.

For hand sewn burgees we will need to have a copy of your designs and colours so our expert team can determine the length of time to create the burgee. That time will then determine the cost of the flag. Please email us your design and size of flag required to [email protected] .

For printed burgees simply fill out the below with sizes, material types etc to determine costs. Once you are happy then just press purchase and send us your artwork for print.

Artwork requirements

We have many yacht and sailing club logos on our files, but most are in master copy form that we use for tracing purposes. These are specifically for the sewn burgees and club-defaced ensigns. For printed flags, we need your artwork in a vector file, AI, or high-resolution Jpeg. The Lloyds register clubs will be on our filing system, so you do not need to worry. However, if your design is not in the register we may not have access to your particular logo and information. If this is the case, then we would require you to provide your artwork in CMYK palette colours, print-ready.

Nautical Flags

We’ve made nautical flags and maritime signals since the 1870s. To this day, we still put the same level of care professionalism and quality into every nautical flag that we make. Our seafaring customers like sailing and yacht clubs have a long history of expecting excellent calibre pieces to fly aboard their vessels.

You can choose from a comprehensive range of hand-sewn and dye-printed nautical flags that include ensigns, pennants, and code and signal flags. We also offer a range of poles and accessories, installation, and servicing to keep your flag and flagpole in tip-top condition.

What Are Nautical Flags Used For?

Despite the rise of modern technology powering today’s vessels, nautical flags and signals are still prominently used as an effective and fast way of communicating at sea. From emergency issues, time and position, or even the name of a ship, there are numerous ways a boat can make use of maritime flags and pennants.

Our Nautical Flags

All of our flags are finished with a headband, rope and toggle for easy installation, and are available in a range of sizes to suit your requirements.

Browse the full range of nautical flags or get in touch to discuss your requirements, the proof sheets available, and the options of buying flags in specific compiled sets.

If you would like to create a custom nautical flag such as a defaced Red Ensign for your local yacht club or a celebratory flag for a loved one's birthday then please get in touch with one of our flag experts who will be happy to help. If you can dream it, we can design and manufacture it.

Nautical Flags - British Ensigns

An ensign is a national flag flown on a vessel to indicate nationality. The ensign is the largest flag, generally flown at the stern of the ship while in port. The naval ensign, used on warships, may be different from the civil ensign or the yacht ensign which are often defaced to include badges and coat of arms. All of our ensigns are made using MOD grade materials in either hand sewn or dye sublimated options in 10 sizes, from 0.75 yards to 6 yards. Looking for a custom nautical flag? Contact our team of flag experts to discuss your requirements today.

The International Code of Signals aims to provide ways and means of communication in situations related essentially to the safety of navigation and persons, especially when language difficulties arise. It has done this by first establishing a standardized alphabet (the letters A to Z and the ten digits), along with a spoken form of each letter (to avoid confusing similar-sounding letters, such as 'b', 'p', and 'v'), and associating this alphabet with standardized flags.

Burgee and Ensign

uk yacht club burgees

The Club burgee shall be red with the insignia of the Kentish Horse in white superimposed on either side.

The Club special ensign which can only be flown subject to the prior issue of a Warrant applicable to individual vessels and only for so long as the owner of the vessel remains a Member of the Club shall be the Blue Ensign defaced with a Red Circle on which is superimposed the white Kentish Horse. Once a member of the club you may purchase the Blue Ensign defaced from Welcome to Ensign Flags – Ensign Flags .

The Club burgee may be flown by any member, but may not be flown on a member’s yacht if no member be on board.

MYC is one of only UK 55 yacht clubs authorised to wear a defaced blue ensign.

Burgees and ensigns are available from the club office.

The burgee should be flown at the mast head or starboard spreaders, no other flag should be flown at the same position.

The ensign should be worn on the taff rail (pushpit).

Traditionally colours (ensign and burgee) should be worn at sea at all times unless racing. In harbour raised at 08:00 (09:00 1 st   Nov to 14 th   Feb) and struck (lowered) at 21:00 or sunset if earlier. Of course you take them down if going ashore.

Conditions Governing the Issue of Yacht Permits to Members of Entitled Yacht Clubs in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands

By Section 4 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, it is an offence to hoist on board any ship or boat belonging to any British subject certain colours, flags and pendants without a Permit from Her Majesty the Queen or from the Secretary of State for Defence. The maximum penalty is one thousand pounds for each offence. Among the prohibited flags are the Union Flag, the White Ensign, the Blue Ensign (plain or defaced) and the Red Ensign with any defacement. The prohibition applies to any ship or boat belonging to any British Subject wherever it may be, and so extends not only to tidal waters but equally to rivers, lakes and inland waters generally.

Yachts may not wear the special Ensigns prohibited above except:

  • Under a Warrant issued to the yacht owner by the Secretary of State for Defence prior to April 1st 1985 and in accordance with the conditions stated hereon, or
  • Under a Permit issued to a yacht owner by a Yacht Club from 1st April 1985 onwards and in accordance with the conditions set out below.

Conditions.

  • Permit: The Yacht must be issued with a Permit by a Yacht Club pursuant to the granting of a Warrant to that Club by the Secretary of State for Defence.
  • Registration and Measurement. a) Registration. The Yacht must be a ship registered under either: (i) Part I of the Register of British Ships or (ii) Part III of the Register of British Ships (Small Ships Register) b) Measurement. The Yacht must measure not less than: (i) 2 tons gross if registered under a(i) above (ii) 7 metres in length overall if registered under a(ii) above
  • Membership of Designated Yacht Club. The Owner or Owners of the Yacht must have current membership of one of the Yacht Clubs in the United Kingdom or Channel Islands to which a Warrant has been issued and which is designated in the Navy List.
  • Nationality. The Owner or Owners must be British Citizens.
  • Use of Yacht. a) The Special Ensign may only be worn on a Yacht used exclusively for private and personal purposes of the Yachtsman to whom the the Permit is issued. b) The Yacht must not be used for any professional, business or commercial purpose. A Yacht whose name incorporates a name, product or trademark used for business or commercial purposes is not eligible for a permit. c) A Yacht which is never used for cruising, e.g. a Houseboat, is ineligible for a permit.
  • Limited Companies. A Yacht which is the property of a Limited Company may be eligible for a permit provided the provisions of Condition 5 are complied with, and the user is a British Subject and a Member of a designated Yacht Club.
  • Presence of Permit Holder. Except under the provisions of Condition 6, a Permit does not confer any authority while the Yacht is being sailed by anyone other than the Owner in person, thus a Special Ensign may not be worn unless the Owner or user (see condition 6) of the Yacht is on board, or in effective control of her when she is in Harbour or at anchor near the shore, and the Clubs Burgee, is flown at the main masthead, or other suitable position. The Permit must always be carried on board when a Special Ensign is worn.
  • Separate Authorisation from Each Club. If the Owner or user belongs to more than one designated club, he must have on board the Permit authorising the particular Ensign, which is being worn. Note – A member of a privileged club who shares a Yacht with joint owners ineligible of belonging to that club because of restricted membership qualifications may exceptionally apply for a permit. All applications under this exception must be supported by written confirmation that the other owners are ineligible for membership of the Yacht Club concerned. A permit issued in these circumstances is valid only when the joint owner in whose name the Permit is issued is on board or in effective control of the Yacht when at anchor or in harbour near the shore.
  • Charter or Loan of Yacht for which the Permit is Issued. It is expressly forbidden for the person borrowing or chartering the aforesaid Yacht to wear the privilege Ensign for which a Permit has been previously issued by the owner’s club.
  • Return of Permit. When a Yacht is sold, there is a change of ownership, or the owner ceases to be a member of the Club, the Permit must at once be surrendered to the Secretary of the Club who shall forthwith cancel it.
  • Alterations to Permits. No alterations are to be made to Permits. If the name of the Yacht is changed, or alterations are made which affect the Register, the Permit is to be withdrawn by the Secretary of the Club. A new Permit may be issued provided the provisions of these conditions are otherwise satisfied.
  • Permits Lost or Stolen. In the event of a Permit being lost or stolen, the member must forward to the Secretary of the Club a report on the circumstances of the loss and the steps taken to recover it. The Secretary of the Club may, at his discretion, issue a fresh permit.
  • Tenders The special Ensign may be worn by any boat which belongs to the Yacht and which can be conveniently hoisted on board.
  • Foreign Cruises. When cruising in Foreign waters a Yacht for which a permit to wear a Special Ensign has been issued should take care to avoid any action which might result in complications with a Foreign Power.
  • A Permit for a Yacht to wear a Special Ensign becomes invalid if the provisions of the above Conditions are not met.
  • Etiquette. Permit holders should comply with the custom, when in harbour, of hoisting the Ensign at 0800 (15 February to 31 October) otherwise at 0900 and lowering the Ensign at local Sunset (or 2100 local time if earlier).

Charges: an administration fee of £5.00 is payable for each warrant.

Ensigns, Permits and Burgees

Quick Links:

Wearing The Ensign

General: A member flies the Club's burgee. The member's yacht wears the Club's ensign. The Club holds a warrant from the Ministry of Defence authorising its members to wear a Special or Privileged Ensign. This is currently the undefaced Blue Ensign. Some of the regulations regarding the wearing of the Privilege Ensign are law (the Merchant Shipping Act 1894, as amended) and some are Club bye-laws. The Club holds the warrant, and issues permits to members. Members themselves do not hold warrants. The Club makes no charge to Members for a permit. The Law: Permits are issued to individuals, not to the yacht. To be issued with a permit, the individual must be a Yachting Member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club and a British Citizen. The owner shall be a Full Yachting Member of the Club. In the case of joint-ownership at least one of the owners shall be a Full Yachting Member of the Club and the other joint owner(s) shall be a Member, or a member of a Yacht club in the United Kingdom or Channel Islands to which a Warrant has been issued. All owners must be British Citizens. If the Privileged Ensign is being worn one of the permitted individuals must be on board or in effective control, and the permit must be on board. The yacht must be registered as a British ship under either Part 1 or Part 3 (the Small Ships Register) of the British Register. Details of how to register, and a down-loadable application form, are available from the Registry of Shipping and Seamen, PO Box 420, Cardiff CF24 5XR and at www.mcga.gov.uk . The yacht must be privately owned or privately chartered. The yacht must be being used for private pleasure purposes only and no form of commercial activity may occur on board while the ensign is being worn. Images of the yacht wearing the Blue Ensign may not subsequently be used for commercial purposes. The yacht's name may not contain any commercial element, including that of a sponsoring company or product. The yacht must have marked on her transom either the Port of Registry or the name of a Yacht Club to which a Warrant from the Secretary of State has been issued. No more than two Yacht Club names may be carried on the transom. The yacht must have a gross tonnage of at least 2 GT or a length overall of at least 7 metres. If members break these laws, the MoD can act (and is known to have done so) to withdraw a Club's warrant. The Club Rules: In addition to the above, the Club's Yachting Bye-Laws require that the Club's burgee be flown at the masthead, never from the spreaders nor from rod rigging, while the Club's ensign is being worn. No exceptions are permitted. If the burgee cannot be flown from the masthead, the Privilege Ensign may not be worn (a standard British maritime ensign - the Red Ensign - should then be worn instead). If the yacht does not have a mast (e.g. a motor yacht) the burgee may be flown from a jackstaff forward. There is only one type of blue permit issued by the Club - where previously we issued an Owner's and a Charterer's permit separately we now only issue one permit for those members whose yachts are privately owned, and for those members whose yachts are owned by a company, from which the yacht is chartered. Who owns the company is irrelevant. The principal significant difference between permits issued for privately-owned and for chartered yachts is in the length of time for which the permits are issued. If the yacht is privately owned, the permit is valid for a period of five years (expiring 31 st March) or until either the yacht is sold or the person named on the permit ceases to be a member of the Club. For a member chartering a yacht, we will only issue a permit valid for the period of the charter, and this is shown on the permit. If the charter is indefinite (for example, from a company owned by the permit-holding member) then the permit is valid from the time of issue for a period of five years ending on 31 st March. To obtain a permit, simply fill out the online application form - click here

RTYC Transom Sticker Visual

Telephone +44 (0)1795 580261, email [email protected] . available on-line at www.tribunegraphics.com

Tribune Graphics can produce our badge and transom letters in a wide range of colours, sizes and even font styles. Club initials on the transom are required when wearing the Club's privileged (Blue) ensign and when using the Club's pontoons either in Cowes or in Hamble. (The reason for the latter is, in particular, to inform the relevant Harbour Masters, not to mention fellow Members, that the yacht on the pontoon is entitled to be there.)  On the Cowes pontoon the Club burgee must also be flown, from the masthead. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Click here to download a copy of the instructions for the transom sticker and the contact details for Tribune Graphics.

We are re-hanging our club's burgee collection and would be very grateful if anyone can identify the attached. The blue one with yellow wheel/fishing rod (?) was made in the USA.

British Flags (United Kingdom) from The World Flag Database

I had tried the databases etc before without success so posted on this forum. Many thanks to neilf39 for identifying two of them so quickly. Waiting to hear back from two flag companies - Prestige Flag San Diego for blue with wheel/fishing rod logo and Ensign Flags for red/yellow with galleon (looks very familiar!). Images of the two remaining ones are attached - the blue/white one is marked 'GLYC'. Any ideas gratefully received.

burgee 1.jpg

Red and yellow with a ship is Weymouth Sailing Club, The red and green one with a bird is Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club. Googling brings up Green Lake Yacht Club in Wisconsin, but their website doesn't show the burgee.

George Lakes Yacht Club for the white/blue one?

Thanks very much for your help michael_w and KevinV. One to go - from Prestige Flag, San Diego attached.

Burgee Exchange

The burgees are on display above the bar in our clubhouse.

It is traditional for yacht clubs to exchange burgees during the first visit by one yacht club to the other. It is the desire that our club continue this tradition. If you are planning to visit a yacht club with whom we have not yet exchanged burgees, be sure to take a SGYC burgee with you to exchange.

As we exchange with a club, we will post the photo of their burgee on these pages. Please review this list to be sure you are not exchanging with a club we have already visited. This list is in alphabetical order for easy review.

If you require a burgee to present, you can obtain one by contacting the Commodore or Shipstore. Please allow yourself plenty of time to schedule the pickup of your burgee.

When you visit a club, bring one of our burgees with you. Tell the person who greets you that you are interested in exchanging burgees with their club. They may perform the exchange at that time or they may put you in touch with one of their officers. If you are visiting the club during an event, they may even make the exchange as part of the presentations at the event. If you are calling ahead to advise them you are going to visit their club, it would be appropriate to mention at that time that your are interested in exchanging burgees.

Eugene Yacht Club has a large collection of yacht club burgees hanging in our club house. As of August 2023, we have more than 175 unique burgees on display. Some are from nearby (i.e. Triton Yacht Club) while others are from far away (i.e. Royal Cape Yacht Club, South Africa). Each burgee was brought home by one of our members who exchanged burgees with another club. Our burgees represent 31 states and 18 foreign countries. And our collection continues to grow with some half dozen added in 2023!

Enjoy checking out our collection. The tabs (below) will take you to a list of burgees in alphabetical order.

Thanks to the hard work of Gary Powell for making these burgees available for everyone to enjoy!! There is also a binder in the clubhouse that has all the burgees in it as well.

COMMODORE’S CORNER

uk yacht club burgees

Happy March to all:

The St. Patrick’s day parade was be held on Saturday March 16th. Our kitchen staff prepared a delicious corned beef and cabbage dinner with all the fixings after the parade.

The search for a new general manager has been started. Advertising will begin appearing in local media outlets. If you have a referral, please direct to Vice Commodore F.J. Ritt [email protected]

As part of the club’s effort to control costs, a fee of 3% will soon be added to all payments when a credit card is used by a member for all club charges. This helps offset the fee charged by credit card companies. Members will be informed via blast email when the practice becomes effective for food and beverage in the lounge point of sale computer system.

On Sunday March 10th we all turned our clocks ahead one hour, providing us with longer daylight and the beginning of warmer sun. With that in mind, the club staff is getting ready for a great 2024 boating season. It was a mild winter so that should mean a hot summer!!! Our commissioning day is coming quickly, it will be held on Saturday June 1st, details to follow.

Wishing you and yours a happy spring!

All the best,

Bob and Rosalie

NEW FEATURE: DO YOU KNOW?

Question: What is the proper way to fly flags on a gaff-rigged pole?

That is probably the most frequently asked question received by the USPS Flag & Etiquette Committee. Gaff-rigged poles are used by navies, boaters and yacht clubs around the world. Onshore, the “yacht club style flagpole” with a gaff represents the mast of a ship. A gaff-rigged pole may, or may not, have a yardarm or crosstree.

uk yacht club burgees

Many people are confused about the proper way to fly the national ensign from a gaff-rigged pole. As depicted in the drawing on the left, the national ensign should be flown from the gaff and the club or organization burgee should be flown at the masthead.

The gaff-rigged pole had its origins at sea. Because of all the sail carried by the rigging of these vessels, the flag of a nation could not be clearly viewed if it was placed at the top of the mast. The stern of the vessel was the position of command and the captain’s quarters were located aft. Early boats also had the nobleman’s banner, king’s banner, or English ensign staff fixed to the stern rail. As sails changed, long booms sweep across the stern rail every time the ship tacked, so the ensign staff had to be removed when the ship was under way. Since the captain and other officers were still aft, the nearest position from which they found it practical to fly the ensign was the gaff. Over time, this became the place of honor to display the national flag. When the ship was moored, the ensign staff was set up again on the stern rail.

This was the practice in the eighteenth century, when the U.S. Navy was created. Now that warships are made of steel and the signal mast no longer carries a boom, our navy still flies the ensign at the gaff peak when under way and at the ensign staff when not underway. There is no law specifying how a flag should fly on a gaff-rigged pole, instead it is based on long standing nautical tradition.

The usual argument given by those that think it is wrong to fly the national ensign from the gaff is that the national ensign is flying below a club burgee or other flag contrary to the Flag Code. Notice that even when the national ensign is flown from the stern of a ship, it is lower in height than other flags flying on the ship. When the ensign is flown from a gaff-rigged pole, a flag flown at the top of the mast is not considered above the ensign because it is not being flown directly above the ensign on the same halyard.

The ensign should be flown from the highest point of honor, and over time, that has become the peak of the gaff. Flying the national ensign from the top of the mast while flying another flag at the gaff would be flying another flag in a position of superior honor since the peak of the gaff is the highest point of honor.

FLEET CAPTAIN

Congratulations to Dennis Ferreira on his appointment as Fleet Captain. His first message is a request. Please give him your thoughts. See below.

Get ready for some summer fun in and around the water!

As your fleet captain, I am looking for your input. Please take just a few minutes to click this link and RESPOND TO A SIMPLE SURVEY https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q7MLTJD to help me plan activities of interest to you. I am also organizing a social on May 11 to discuss potential cruise opportunities and have spoken with Adirondack about a Club sail in June…more details to follow. I’m looking forward to a great season of sailing and boating with my fellow club members.

Dennis Ferreira, Fleet Captain.

A SAIL RACING TRADITION

The Royal Western Yacht Club of England will run its major transatlantic races, the Original Single-handed Transatlantic Race ( OSTAR ) and the Two-handed Transatlantic Race ( TWOSTAR) , again in 2024. Once again the Newport Yacht Club will support this highly significant sailing event as it has for nearly a quarter century.

Per the Royal Western, the OSTAR represents the birth of transoceanic single handed oceanic sailing, noting “in 1956 Blondie Hasler became interested in the challenges of offshore singlehanded sailing – “one man, one boat, the ocean…”. Over the next few years he conceived of a transatlantic race against the prevailing winds and currents whose purpose was to develop the necessary seamanship, equipment and techniques.

One hundred sailors sent in letters of intent for this race, only eight started and five finished. “Self-steering gear was in its most basic homemade form, roller-reefing sails were just a dream and there were no satellite navigation systems or weather routing, just hand-held compasses and sextants. The five pioneer yachtsmen took very different options, with Blondie Hasler (Jester 25ft) opting for an extreme Northern route, Francis Chichester (Gipsy Moth III 40ft) and David Lewis (Cardinal Vertue 25ft) on the Great Circle route and Val Howells (Eira 25ft) and Jean Lacombe (Cap Horn 21.5ft) on the Azores route.”

The 2024 race will commence on 5 May.  Newport Yacht Club Past Commodore Norm Bailey, who also serves as assistant race director for the Royal Western Yacht Club will be on hand for the start in the U.K., returning to the U.S. on 7 May.

The Newport Yacht Club will once again host the finish of the race, with the first competitors expected to arrive twenty to twenty-one days after the start. This will coincide with our 1 June Commissioning Day for the Club and the Commodore of the Royal Western is expected to be here for the event.

All who finish the race will receive a medallion from the City of Newport.  Commodore Bob Antignano will award the OSTAR Line Honors winner the famous Around the World Alone trophy plate currently housed in our Club’s display cabinet.

The Club is very active in single-handed sailing events with many devoted competitors and is pleased to support this time-honored sailing tradition.

JUNIOR SAILING COULD USE YOUR HELP

uk yacht club burgees

The goal is to keep the program affordable, so the fees charged do not cover the full cost of operating the program, requiring the raising of additional funds. Fortunately, through the generosity of donors, 15% of the campers who participated in the program last year received scholarships.  Scholarship donations are greatly appreciated; however, those donations are restricted specifically for scholarships and cannot be used for any other purpose.

Unrestricted donations are needed to help cover other program costs such as fleet maintenance, fleet replacement and increased costs for wages, fuel and insurance.

How can you help you ask? Easy, sponsor one of the Junior Sailing boats.  Simply decide on a name which could be your spouse, family, your pet, a favorite location. . . your choice and it will be placed on one of the boats in the Junior Sailing fleet.  Your generous $500 donation will go a long way to help keep the Newport Yacht Club Junior Sailing program one of the top programs on Narragansett Bay.

What will Sponsors Receive?

  • Personal Name, Business name or an appropriate name / saying on forward quarter of a junior sailing dinghy. (4” X 36” max)
  • Thank you note with picture of camper sailing in branded boat to be e-mailed to you.
  • Recognition on the public-facing home page of the NYC website.
  • Recognition in the NYC Burgee e-newsletter
  • On-water exposure – June – August. Approximately 60% of time on water in Newport Harbor 40% in East passage / Narraganset Bay.

Please feel free to contact the Junior Sailing Committee to sponsor your boat:

FLOAT AND DOCK

Our spring 2024 dock day is on April 13 at 8:30 am. We need about a dozen volunteers to prepare our marina for the 2024 summer season. If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email to Andy Vouras at  [email protected] .

After all the marina contracts are finalized by the end of March, we plan to open the waiting lists for slips, corral spaces and dinghy and kayak rack spaces in April.  Space remains tight.  The first step is to get on the appropriate list if you are interested.  No action required yet, but please look for an announcement in early April regarding how to apply.

You may have noticed a new item in the Members-only section in the club website. Now all marina assignments are posted on-line in addition to the hallway bulletin board for everyone’s convenience.

REGATTA COMMITTEE

Even at this early stage we’re getting ready for the start of the sailing season, and there are several new things worth letting you know about:

On May 4 th we’re hosting a free entry level training for those wanting to join the Race Committee Team and you can get the details from the notices that Jackie Dietrich has posted at the Club.   It’s meant to be fun and informative with a free sandwich lunch, and we’ll be backing up the training subsequently with several on-the-water race simulations using the Club regatta boat “Volunteer”.  Please go to the calendar of events on the Club website to register for this training.

On a more technical level, we’ve asked the Ensigns to conform to the two season racing format that other classes use on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and they’ve graciously consented.  (Future race scorers will be grateful!)

We’re also working with Fleet Captain Dennis Ferreira to help encourage our members (both youth and not-so-youth members) to have a bit more fun with mainly self-directed races in July and August.  We also expect that racing might sometimes deteriorate to enjoyment of a sunset sail, as there aren’t any particular rules for these “races”.  We can use Sail Newport’s J22s and possibly also the Club’s 420s for this.  This is meant to be a fun and social mixing event for all ages and abilities.  To gauge your interest in this the Fleet Captain has initiated a survey and we’d be grateful for as much feedback as possible so that we can get our plans in motion.

Looking for a fun-filled racing season!

Alan Renfrew Chair, Regatta Committee

COMMUNITY SPIRIT-BLOOD DRIVE THANK YOU

Our Club started its 39th year of hosting blood drives with another successful effort on February 25th and met the goal of 15 successful donations with both reserved and walk-in donors participating.  Thank you to the lifesavers who gave a bit of themselves to help others in need.

Congratulations and fair winds to Harry and Agnes Scott, stalwart blood donation coordinators for 34 years!  Their dedication saw the club surpass its 30th anniversary of blood donations in 2015 and has resulted in over 1,000 pints donated over their many years of service to the club and the (now) Rhode Island Blood Center.  Harry and Agnes were there for every yearly drive, and for the past 15 years twice a year welcoming donors and coordinating the specifics between the Blood Center and our Club.  The blood center staff have always fought for the chance to work our drives, Harry and Agnes made these drives possible.

With Harry’s mentorship, Mary Jo Valdes and Dave Davis have stepped up in his and Agnes’ stead.  If you have any questions (or fears) of blood donation, don’t hesitate to contact either of us.  We hope you plan to donate at the next blood drive in early June.

OFFSHORE COMMITTEE

Registration for the Offshore 160 and the New England Solo/Twin is now open and they have started coming in.  New for this year will be trackers on all the boats similar to the trackers used for the Bermuda One-Two.
