What is Yacht Charter APA – Advance Provisioning Allowance?

July 31,2018

A quick rundown of everything you need to know about the Advance Provisioning Allowance for your next yacht charter

With all the abbreviations and acronyms, yacht charter contracts can often seem a little confusing. But a charter agreement is actually relatively simple as its main purpose is to set out your rights as a charterer.

One of the most common terms you’ll see mentioned in your contract is the APA or Advance Provisioning Allowance. Designed to simplify the charter experience, the APA ensures that your onboard expenses are covered from the start.

Read on to discover everything you need to know about this useful arrangement and just how it works.

What is advanced provisioning allowance (APA)?

Advanced provisioning allowance (APA) is the extra fee that you pay in advance to cover the cost of provisions for your charter. The APA is paid on top of the charter fee. It helps to think of the advanced provisioning allowance as like opening a petty cash account for your captain and chef, because it’s the simplest way of tracking charter expenses while you’re on board.

What does APA cover?

The APA covers all the day-to-day operating expenses for your yacht charter. Everything from your food and fuel to port and customs fees. It also covers any special requirements or requests you might have while you’re onboard. The main costs to expect are:

Food and drink

Before your charter, your broker will send you a preference sheet so you can request all your favourite food and beverages. This will then be used to calculate your APA estimation.

Fuel Charges

Your fuel costs will depend on your itinerary and whether you choose to cruise or stay at anchor. Fuel costs will also be included for any toys and tenders you use during your charter.

Harbour fees and dockage

The harbour fees and dockage costs will also depend on where and when you want to charter. For example, you can expect to pay more for a berth in Monaco during Grand Prix week.

Communications Costs

If you plan to use the Internet or the yacht’s satellite communications while you’re onboard, this will also be factored into the APA.

Delivery fee

This doesn’t always apply. But if you board or disembark the yacht outside of her usual port, you may need to pay a delivery fee.

While the yacht laundry costs are included in the charter fee, to have personal items laundered you may need to pay extra.

How is APA calculated?

You’ll receive an APA estimation from your broker before you leave for your charter. As a general rule, the APA is calculated as a percentage of the charter fee.

Expect to pay between 20-25% if you’re chartering a sailing yacht and 30-35% for a motor yacht. Note: this can be higher for day charters and depending on multiple factors.

For example, it’s worth bearing in mind that your APA may be higher if you plan to spend your time island hopping. If you’re cruising more than 4 hours a day, you will need to cover that extra fuel consumption with your APA.

Where and when do you need to pay it?

The APA is due at the same time as your final charter payment, so roughly one month before you set sail. The transfer is made directly to the yacht captain. Your broker will provide all the necessary bank details ahead of time.

Who will handle the purchasing for the charter?

The captain will oversee all the purchases made before and during your charter. He will be responsible for ensuring the crew stays within budget and will provide receipts and expense accounts upon request. All expenses will be charged at cost and at the end of your charter you’ll receive an itemised breakdown of all expenditures.

What happens if the APA doesn’t cover all expenses?

Charter cost estimation is fairly accurate, but there’s always a chance that you might decide to blow the budget while at sea. Should your outgoings exceed the initial payment, you can top up the APA in cash while you’re onboard. The captain will keep you updated throughout the trip, and if there are any outstanding costs, you’ll need to settle up before disembarking.

What if we don’t use the full APA?

If there’s any credit remaining on the APA account at the end of the charter, the captain will issue a refund. You will receive the outstanding balance in cash before you leave the yacht.

Finally, does the APA apply to all charters?

When it comes to luxury yacht charter, the APA is usually applied as standard. Simple and straightforward, the APA is the easiest way to keep track of your outgoings while at sea.

APA for Luxury Yacht Charter – The Advance Provisioning Allowance Explained

Superyacht charter Cartouche

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is an important part of the charter price of a luxury yacht.

So what is the meaning of APA when you are chartering a luxury yacht? What is the APA made of? How can you determine in advance the amount of your advance provisioning allowance? We explain in this guide what you should know about the Advance Provisioning Allowance before you book your next luxury yacht charter.

Yacht APA

What does APA mean when you charter a luxury yacht?

APA is short for Advance Provisioning Allowance.

As its name implies, APA is an allowance that you pay in advance before the start of your yacht charter.

The advance provisioning allowance is used to pay variable expenses that arise during your yacht charter.

Its main purpose is to simplify payments onboard. The captain has funds at his disposal to operate the superyacht. That way, he doesn’t have to bother you for every payment he has to make.

Since it is payable before the start of your holidays, the APA is an estimation.

If you did not spend your APA fully, the captain returns the remaining funds to you. If you spent more than your APA, you will have to cover the missing part.

Which expenses are part of the Advance Provisioning Allowance for luxury yachts?

Your advance provisioning allowance includes all variable expenses likely to arise during the charter of your luxury yacht.

These variable expenses depend on numerous factors. Each luxury yacht charter is unique, and you can have different APA while chartering the same superyacht to the same destination. It all depends on how you plan to experience your yacht charter.

Fuel expenses

Luxury yachts are usually big vessels . And in most cases, the bigger the yacht, the more it needs fuel.

Yacht fueling

Fuel expenses during your yacht charter also depends on your destination and activities. Transatlantic cruise will not cost the same as a yacht charter staying around a marina.

Also, sailing yachts usually use less fuel than motoryachts. So your fuel expenses on a superyacht might be different even if they have the same size.

The fuel expenses can include the delivery fee. The most notorious superyachts are chartered months if not years before departure. It is sometimes necessary to bring the yacht to its next destination before departure.

Food and catering onboard

A luxurious experience such as chartering a yacht usually comes with delicious delicacies onboard. Your crew is at your disposal to prepare your meals that can match the experience of your travel.

yacht charter apa

Your charter company will determine with you the sort of experience you are looking for during your cruise.

Whether you are into luxurious food or simple one, your choice will have an impact on your advance provisioning allowance. If you plan on celebrating events onboard such as birthday, new year’s eve or honeymoon, your might want to increase your APA to allow some budget for these special moments.

Alcohol, cocktails and cigars

Some will like to live their luxury yacht charter experience to the fullest. Whether you are chartering a luxury yacht to party with friends, or with your family, alcohol, beverages and even cigars can be a part of your APA.

yacht charter apa

If you decide to embark with the finest whiskies, the most notorious cigars and a wide range of cocktails available, your advance provisioning allowance can be increased to match the standards you are expecting.

Mooring fees

Mooring your yacht comes with a fee. The fee depends on several factors. Among them, the size of your yacht, the marina or whether or not it’s high season.

Mooring a yacht

For example, mooring your superyacht in Monaco marina during the Monaco Grand Prix will be costlier than mooring the same superyacht in low season.

Phone & Internet costs

If you want to stay in touch with the world during your cruise, even in the most remote locations, you will have to use satellite technology.

Yacht internet satellite

You would be able to stream your favorite series, send important emails to your colleagues or browse your next destination directly from your superyacht.

But of course satellite connexions are more expensive than 4G or fiber technologies available on land. So your communication use will have an impact on your Advance Provisioning Allowance.

Which expenses are NOT a part of your Advance Provisioning Allowance?

APA includes your yacht daily variable expenses. All expenses that are not variable or that can be determined in advance are therefore not a part of your advance provisioning allowance.

The rental price of your yacht

When you charter a superyacht, the rental price is fixed and is therefore not a part of your APA.

The salary of the crew onboard

The crew salary comes together with the yacht rental on luxury yacht charters. So it is not a part of your APA.

All taxes and VAT

Taxes and VAT are determined in advance before your departure. The charter company pays directly the receiving government. They are neither a part of the yacht charter price, nor of your APA.

Charterer liability insurance, cancellation insurance or medical travel insurance are expenses that are not included in your APA as they are not a part of day-to-day operating expenses on the yacht.

However, if you have to cancel your trip, the cancellation insurance can cover your Advance Provisioning Allowance.

For more details about the overall cost of chartering a yacht, read this article .

How is my Advance Provisioning Allowance spent?

Your APA acts like a bank account available for your captain or your charter company for any expenses needed onboard.

The captain records all transactions in real-time. All expenses occurring from your APA are completely transparent. If you want to know how much of your APA is remaining or where it has been spent, you only need to ask your captain.

Do all luxury yacht charters need an Advance Provisioning Allowance?

Yes. The Advance Provisioning Allowance is automatic on all luxury yacht charters.

It’s a convenient way to keep track of your expenses without having to take care of them by yourself. Which is much needed on superyachts with large crews.

How can I estimate my APA?

The usual advance provisioning allowance brackets.

APA is usually between 20% and 40% on top of the cost of your yacht charter. Sailboats are usually using lower APA as they tend to use less fuel. So you can expect sailing yachts to have APA at around 20-25% on top of their charter price. Motor yachts tend to use more fuel, so they will usually be on the higher end of the bracket : between 30% and 40% of their charter price.

The type of travelling experience you expect to determine your APA

Most expenses depend on activities and standards you expect from your cruise. If you plan to do some islands hopping, crossing oceans, or using a motor superyacht, fuel consumption might be an important part of your APA.

Enjoying luxury food, finest wines paired with most exquisite cigars with a group living life to the fullest might increase your advance provisioning allowance significantly.

Mooring a superyacht in a prestigious marina at the highest season will impact your APA.

To have a precise amount of APA you need, try to picture clearly what kind of yacht charter experience you are envisioning. It will help your chartering company to budget your APA accordingly.

What is APA in relation to yacht charter? We’ve got the answers

Everything you need to know about Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA)

The world of yachting can be full of strange words and abbreviations, and here at 212 Yachts we know it can be a little confusing.. So here is a little guide to one of the main ones when it comes to chartering a yacht – About APA yacht charter (Advanced Provisioning Allowance).

What is APA in yacht charter?

APA stands for Advanced Provisioning Allowance. How exactly it works and why it exists may seem confusing. With this in mind, the 212 Yachts team thought it would be a good idea to break things down and start from the beginning, so here it goes!

What is APA for?

When chartering a yacht, the charter fee generally only covers the rental cost of the yacht , and any crew that come with it. So how do you pay for fuel or provisions for your trip? This is where APA comes in. It is an additional fee which will cover all these extras, such as food, drink, fuel, berthing costs, customs, communications… APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) is the standard system to pay your expenses on a luxury yacht charter . The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain (and chef) on the yacht to provision on your behalf.

How does APA work?

APA is generally calculated as a percentage of the charter fee, which you then pay in addition, before the charter commences. The broker or the captain will use this allowance to stock the boat, and fuel up. Any left over money will be returned to the client, at the end of the charter. Whilst on board, the captain will be in charge of the APA and has to keep any receipts necessary, as record for you, the client. He/she should also keep you updated as the charter progresses, of how much is being spent, and anything else you need to be aware of.

APA will apply, as standard on pretty much most professional yacht charters, and is close to obligatory for all luxury yacht charters.

When does APA apply?

APA will apply, as standard on pretty much most professional yacht charters, and is close to obligatory for all luxury yacht charters. There are a few sailing yachts and motor yachts, more commonly in regions such as South East Asia which offer all inclusive packages. The difference with a luxury yacht charter and an all inclusive trip, is that on a luxury yacht charter you personally choose, in advance, whatever you would like to have on the yacht. Therefore if you want the best Champagne and the rarest selection of cigars, wine and the finest of meats, caviar etc.. you must pay for it, from the APA. The broker and the yacht crew will happily source and select all provisions on your behalf, they need the funds in order to do so, hence the APA.

How much is APA?

The amount varies from yacht to yacht, but is generally between 30% and 40% of the yacht charter fee. For example, it will be higher if the yacht has a higher fuel consumption,  if you plan on doing lots of travelling, if you order the finest and most expensive brands of champagne, wines etc…

How do I pay the APA?

APA is payable in advance of your yacht charter, and normally at the same time as paying your initial charter fee. This is usually by bank transfer.

What happens if my APA does not cover the expenses on the yacht charter?

In the event that you ‘overspend’ your APA, you will need to pay up, before disembarking. You may be obliged to top up the APA during the yacht charter.

What if the APA yacht charter is more than I would like to spend?

If for example, you have budgeted €xxxxx to spend on expenses, but the APA is double that figure, you will still need to pay the APA in advance. However, you should communicate carefully your expenses budget with the broker and the Captain. If you put realistic constraints on the budget for food and drinks, then the Captain will do his/her best to stay within this budget. If the Captain and yacht broker know the figure you want to work with, then they will be able to assess how feasible it is in advance, and for example; adapt the planned itinerary to meet your budget, in terms of fuel spend. With clear communication, realistic budgets, and advanced provisioning, it may indeed (depending on your requests and the yacht) be possible to spend a lot less than the APA and have the difference  returned to you at the end of the yacht charter.

What happens if your charter is cancelled?

THE ADVANCED PROVISIONING ALLOWANCE: UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

Monday 15 August, 2022

The Advanced provisioning allowance (APA) is the fee paid in advance of to cover the operational expenses and provisions of your luxury yacht charter. The APA is paid on top of the standard yacht charter fee.

It covers everything from food to fuel to port and customs fees, as well as any special requests or requirements you have made for your superyacht charter.

The APA is calculated as a portion of the charter fee, which is usually, as a rough rule, expected to be between 30-40% of your yacht charter fee. This amount can vary wildly however, and depends on a lot of factors, especially if your yacht is travelling large distances, is consuming a large amount of fuel or you’ve ordered a lot of alcohol for a function as just a few examples. Any specific or special requests will also alter the APA amount.

The superyacht captain is in charge of the purchases made before and during your yacht charter, responsible for ensuring the crew stays within budget. The captain will happily provide you with receipts and detailed expense reports should you request these, as well as an itemised breakdown of all expenditures when you finally disembark.

The APA is an advance on expenses, so is based on an estimation of your expenses for the trip. Should the expenses exceed the APA, extra costs will be incurred, which will then need to be settled before leaving the yacht at the end of the yacht charter trip. For any credit remaining of the APA, should you happen not to use it all, this will be refunded to you by the captain.

The APA is designed specifically to simplify your yacht charter experience, leaving you the time to really enjoy and appreciate the trip.

Guletyacht.net will ask for a lot of specifics, and this is meant to save both times, expense and frustration at a later date during the charter.

Therefore, consider that every stop has its own logistical requirements, you need to have the whole process mapped out before you leave. Your Captain and Crew will be able to assure you smooth sailing, effortless access to all resources needed for your comfort and enjoyment.

How does APA work?

APA is usually calculated as a percentage of the charter fee, and you pay this up front as an addition to the fee before your charter starts. The money is then used by the Captain (or broker) to pay for all the extra fees, taxes, and provisions required to maintain a perfect experience.

Any monies left over after the trip has ended returned to the client. All receipts for all purchases made with the APA funds are available to the client at all times. This way, the client is capable of tracking expenses during the trip.

APA is a standard found in every yacht charter company.

When does APA apply?

APA always applies on all yacht charters, some charter companies will include this in the fee, and therefore there are some companies that offer what seems to be more expensive options, to companies that prefer to break down the fee and give their clients more freedom of choice, transparency, and control.

The big difference is in the terminology, a charter that is all-inclusive means you get what they decide is included in the trip. As such, if you want more, you need to dish out more, and you need to ask and understand what is actually included in the all-inclusive menu.

It`s better to take an APA approach, you get total control over what you want to have on your trip. Just consider the food and drink options of an APA menu; its exactly what you want it to be.

How much is APA?

The price of APA depends on what you request, as a rule of thumb, it is usually around 30% to 40% of the total trip cost. It will go up if you need to smoke the most exclusive Cuban cigars and drink the most expensive Champagnes with Beluga Caviar and have a personalized sea-bob for every traveler.

How do I pay the APA?

APA is paid up front with the charter fee and is usually processed through a bank transfer.

What happens if my APA does not cover the expenses on the yacht charter?

If you decide to go over budget, you will be asked to provide the finances for this during the trip.

What if the APA yacht charter is more than I would like to spend?

Budget control is all about deciding what specifics and extras you need to enjoy your trip. When you plan the schedule with all the stops and also include all the sites to visit, the resources and nutrition required, you will receive a calculated APA cost. This reflects the overall spend that the charter expects to meet. In most cases, it will be slightly above the total spent, since charters prefer not to ask for more money during the trip, and you get refunded.

However, if, during your pre-trip schedule the calculations are above your budget, we suggest you set the limit down beforehand and let us suggest which options can be substituted with alternatives that might meet your requirements and personal tastes.

Guletyacht.net has years of experience in managing APA budgets and draws on a vast pool of knowledge and resource costs to provide you, the client with a well prepared and budgeted APA for a perfect trip.

The Charter Captain and the APA

Luxury is in the details

A yacht charter can be the best vacation experience of a lifetime. The manner in which the Captain manages the distribution and reconciliation of the Advanced Provisioning Allowance is critical to the long term satisfaction of the charter client.

The captain of a charter yacht is navigator, concierge, accountant, host and employee. An experienced charter captain must balance the demands of owner, broker, and guest in order to achieve a long term reputation for the yacht and him or herself within the charter industry.

Owners decide to place vessels into the charter market with the intent to recoup some portion of the cost of investment. To boost demand for the vessel – and hence the potential income - the charter broker, captain/crew, and the owner must work in concert to maximize the experience of each guest.

The Captain is responsible for all funds from the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) spent by any crew member. Confusion or disagreement with the final reconciliation of the APA is the most common source of dissatisfaction with the yacht charter experience. Attention to detail and verification of preferences with the charter broker are the most direct way to avoid future dissatisfaction and ensure repeat clients.

Per standard charter agreement, the captain shall exercise due diligence in the expenditure of the APA and advise the charterer - at intervals - as to the disbursement and balance. Key areas to manage with detail:

  • Stocking beverage preferences
  • The guest preference sheet often requires clarification as to amounts of individual beverages – especially expensive wines and liquor.
  • Purchase location of provisions.
  • If the vessel is in Fort Lauderdale, but initiating the charter in the Bahamas, provisioning will be more economical in FTL.
  • Use of an agent (and the added cost) to provision is generally not necessary if adequate turn around and planning is done. The yacht's busy schedule is not reason to pay a premium for provisions.
  • Fuel should be purchased at the lowest purchase point available.
  • Duty free options for fuel savings should be utilized as permitted.

There are occasions when the owner’s use of the vessel can create a conflict for the efficiency of service and provisioning for the charter client. Areas of potential misuse of the APA to be avoided are:

  • Port fees prior to the inception of the charter
  • Dockage fees or crew hours incurred during the process of provisioning
  • Owner costs, or yacht maintenance charges slipping into the charter expenses
  • Cost plus calculations....expenses are to be charged to the client at cost

Communication by the captain involving the APA is essential. Inclusion of information regarding the charge rate for internet usage and frequency of APA status reports during the initial welcome aboard is advisable. Routine communication with the guest is an opportunity to explain how an itinerary change, provisioning request or shore service may impact the APA balance.

At the conclusion of charter the reconciliation presented by the Captain to the charter client should include detail to avoid future disputes over balances due. Details include:

  • Receipts for expenditures
  • Internet/communications charges based on initial quoted rate and accuracy calculated
  • Written quotes for any cleaning or repair charges incurred
  • Any delayed invoicing for agents presented with a collection deadline
  • Final refueling projection driven by fuel guidelines previously noted. Engineer should provide tank soundings at charter start and end.

There have been occasions of Captains manipulating the reconciliation report to the guest in an effort to solicit the APA balance as a tip. The charter broker holds the responsibility of educating the guest about the practice of gratuities. The short term satisfaction of an immediate crew tip has the potential to negatively impact the long term charter business of the vessel.

Steady bookings and repeat business are the common target for the charter crew, vessel owner and charter broker. That is a shared responsibility. The Charter broker must have fully vetted the guest, the owner must hire the best crew and competitively reimburse, and the captain must manage the crew to exceed expectations. At Luxury Yacht Group, the charter brokers have established relationships with charter captains to assure the communication of the details, assuring charter guest satisfaction.

Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) – What you should know before you charter a luxury yacht

The yacht charter cost

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is an important factor to consider when you are chartering a yacht. Yet, the abbreviation can be confusing when you are not familiar with yacht charters.

So what is the APA? Which expenses does the APA calculation include? How can you know how much your APA is going to be? This guide provides you all the information you need to know about the Advance Provisioning Allowance so that you can plan how much your yacht charter is going to cost beforehand and avoid bad surprises.

What is the definition of the Advance Provisioning Allowance APA in yacht charter?

The abbreviation APA stands for Advance Provisioning Allowance. The APA is an advance payment that covers variable expenses that can arise during your yacht charter.

As the name implies, the APA is an allowance based on an estimation. Its main objective is to simplify everyone’s life onboard.

The captain has access to some funds to cover day to day variable expenses that are part of operating a yacht. That way, you don’t need to give your credit card, cash or wire money every time an expense occurs during your yacht charter. At the end of your cruise, you receive a bill with the summary of all expenses. If you did not use all your APA, the captain returns the remaining funds. On the other hand, if you spent above your initial APA, you will have to pay the difference.

Which expenses do the Advance Provisioning Allowance include?

APA calculations include variable expenses likely to arise during the charter of your yacht. These variable expenses largely depend on the sort of yachting experience you are expecting for your trip. It is possible to have very different Advance Provisioning Allowance while renting the same boat if the expectations for the trip are widely different. Here is a breakdown of the most common and important factors that can make your APA vary significantly.

Fuel expenses

A yacht needs fuel to sail, and the bigger the yacht, the more fuel it needs to power it. But size is not the only matter when it comes to fuel consumption. Your fuel expenses, and therefore your APA, won’t be the same if you charter a yacht to sail to nearby bays compared to if you are planning on crossing an ocean. Similarly, sailing yachts tend to use less fuel than their motor yachts counterparts.

The initial location of the boat is an important factor as well. If the yacht has to travel hundreds of kilometers to reach the starting point of your charter, the APA will include this delivery fee.

Food and catering onboard

One of the main expense categories while chartering a yacht is of course food. Charter companies will ask you what kind of cuisine you appreciate and the standards you are expecting during your cruise. Depending on your answers, expenses from this category can influence the APA amount.

yacht charter apa

Some will prefer their food to be simple onboard to keep their APA low, while others will want to live the yacht experience to its fullest potential by allowing a large chunk of their APA to this category. To each their own. If you plan on celebrating events onboard such as birthday, new year’s eve or honeymoon, you may need to increase your APA to allow some budget for these special moments.

Alcohol, beverages and cigars

Similarly to food and catering expenses, alcohol, beverages and even cigars can be included in your APA. Your allowance can therefore vary significantly whether you are an enthusiast of finest wines, whiskies and cigars or not.

Harbors fees

Mooring your yacht comes with a fee, that can vary depending on numerous factors such as the size of your yacht, the harbour itself or the season.

yacht charter apa

For example, mooring your chartered yacht in Monaco harbour can range from 50€ to more than 2000€ a day depending on the size of your yacht and whether or not it is high season. Harbours sometimes charge boats with more than one hull extra because of the space they use.

Communication

When you are in the middle of the ocean, you rarely benefit from 4G network or fiber connexion. Since all communications have to be using satellites, this can quickly increase your budget. Your APA will not be the same whether you plan a yacht trip cut down from modern communications or if you plan on working or streaming your favorite series while onboard.

Although it’s rarely the main expense of your APA as your yacht charter usually includes laundry and cleaning, it is sometimes one of its extra components, along various small expenses alike.

Which expenses are NOT included in Advance Provisioning Allowance calculation?

Now that you know which expenses the advance provisioning allowance include, let’s see the ones that are not part of your APA calculation.

Yacht rental

When you charter a yacht, the rental price is not variable, and is therefore not a part of your APA.

Crew Salary

The crew salary comes together with the yacht rental when you are chartering a crewed yacht. So it is not a part of your APA either.

In most cases, the charter price of your yacht includes yacht rental and its crew.

yacht charter apa

Taxes and VAT

Taxes and VAT are determined in advance before you start sailing, and are paid directly to the receiving entity. As such, they are neither not a part of the yacht charter price, and not a part of your APA. They are a separate cost that only depends on where you are planning to go.

Charterer liability insurance, cancellation insurance or medical travel insurance are expenses that included in your APA as they are not a part of day-to-day operating expenses on the yacht. However, it’s important to note that the cancellation insurance can cover your Advance Provisioning Allowance if you have to cancel your trip.

How is my APA spent?

Your APA is a fund available for your captain or your charter company. It is therefore the equivalent of a bank account at their disposal for any expenses onboard.

The captain records any transaction that occurs and can inform you accordingly. All expenses from your APA are completely transparent. If you want to know how much of your APA is remaining or where it has been spent, the information is always at your fingertips.

Do all yacht charters need an Advance Provisioning Allowance?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance doesn’t come automatically with all boat charters. APA is usually necessary for crewed yacht charters as they provide more services. The need to have an allowance for variable expenses increases with the size of the yacht and its services. On luxury yacht charters, the APA is almost always automatic.

For bareboat yacht rentals, yacht charter with skipper or small crewed yacht charters, the APA is not automatic. But we still recommend to have one as it’s a convenient way to keep track of your expenses without having to take care of them by yourself.

How can I estimate my APA?

The usual advance provisioning allowance brackets.

First, you can consider that for most yacht charters, APA is usually somewhere between 20% and 40% on top of the cost of your yacht charter. Sailboats are usually using lower APA as their sails make you save some fuel costs. So you can expect sailing yachts to have APA at around 20-25% on top of their charter price.

Motor yachts tend to use more fuel, so they will usually be on the higher end of the bracket : between 30% and 40% of their charter price.

Luxury yacht cost

The type of travelling experience you expect to determine your APA

Most expenses depend on what you expect from your cruise. If you plan to do some islands hopping or crossing oceans, the fuel consumption might be an important part of your APA. Especially on a motor yacht.

If you are onboard with a group enjoying luxury food, finest wines paired with most exquisite cigars, then your APA might be higher than usual as well.

If you plan on mooring your yacht in the highest season in a prestigious harbour, then your APA will need to be higher.

To estimate precisely your APA, try to picture clearly what kind of yacht charter experience you are envisioning so that your chartering company has all the information they need.

Use our APA calculator to estimate the likely brackets of your yacht charter cost based on your projects.

What is APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) and How Is It Calculated?

Aug 28, 2023 | BLOG

yacht charter apa

APA, Advance Provisioning Allowance, is standard when booking a private yacht charter.  This money will be used to pay for any operating expenses during your yacht charter.  The expenses covered include fuel consumed during your trip, food, alcohol, port fees, onboard communications such as internet or satellite, special requests, and incidentals during your time onboard.  A typical APA is estimated to be 20-25% for a sailing yacht and 30-35% for a motor yacht.  If there is any money left over after expenditures, this will be paid to you in cash at the conclusion of your trip.

Reviewing the Expenditures that Will Be Incurred

You can at any time while onboard review the expenditures that your APA has been applied toward.  These funds and the applying of them to expenses is handled by the Captain of the vessel.  Since your yacht charter will need to be readied prior to your departure with fuel and the necessary provisions for you and your guests, the APA will most often need to be paid several weeks in advance of your trip.  You will receive a list of the various expenditures that were applied against the APA by the Captain or your charter broker prior to disembarking.

How Overage or Underage in APA is Handled

The amount of APA paid up front should be very close to the required dollar amount, as set by the itinerary, meal plan, and number of guests onboard.  However, it isn’t uncommon for there to be an overage after all expenditures from your private charter have been deducted.  In this scenario the remaining funds will be returned to you at the conclusion of the trip.  There may also be unexpected expenses that arise, or a change in your itinerary thus incurring more docking fees, that cause you to have an underage of APA.  When this happens, you will receive a detailed list of the expenditures with a bill for the outstanding amount upon the conclusion of your trip.

Planning ahead for your at-sea expenditures can help to keep your luxury yacht charter within budget.  Be sure to factor in APA as part of your trip expenses when booking a private yacht charter.  Cruzan Yacht Charters can help you better understand how this is calculated for your itinerary and the boat of your choosing.

Understanding the advanced provisioning allowance, advanced provisioning allowance (apa).

Advance provisioning allowance.  This is the amount prepaid to cover the cost of food, beverages, liquor, and a portion of the fuel for the charter. If underused, the remaining amount is refunded upon disembarkation.  If overused, the difference is due upon disembarkation.  The APA does not include fuel for the motorized water crafts or extra fuel required to resume an itinerary following any sailing route changes due to inclement weather/sea conditions or client-initiated changes.  The APA does NOT constitute an all-inclusive charter and additional funds may be required to cover fuel costs for actual itinerary executed (see section on Fuel Supplement).  The APA also does not cover any extra requirements for sailing into international waters (for applicable itineraries only).  NOTE: The APA is in USD currency and must be included in the overall total cost of the charter.  Payment of the APA will be direct by the charterer to the yacht charter manager and can be paid by credit card (3.5% charterer's bank fee additional applies) or by wire transfer (minimal fee, bank details to be provided with yacht charter agreement). The APA is converted to local currency EURO at time of receipt of cleared funds of 2nd Payment Installment. (for applicable charters with Euro currency requirements). Charters in the Caribbean are also subject to Euro currency depending upon destination.

What is an APA Escrow Account

An APA Escrow account provides the ability for the yacht charter specialist to:

Reduce stress on the charterer and closeout the account from any overages

Pay out authorized crew gratuity so that the charterer does not need to carry large sums of money

Yacht Charter manager has ability to pay other activities requested by the charterer such as tours, rental cars and other activities.

When is the APA converted to the local currency?

The APA remains in the currency provided until time of the charterer’s charter where it will be converted and delivered to the Captain for the preliminary Captain’s APA account. The APA Escrow remains in the currency provided and converted to the local currency only if required.

What happens to my APA and APA Escrow if underused?

All funds are returned to the client when the charter has been completed and all accounts have been paid. The Yacht Charter Manager provides an account closeout and provides all un-used funds back to the client via a wire transfer.

Absolutely! Your Yacht Charter Manager first closeout out the account of all expenditures together with the Captain and will advise of remaining funds in the account. The converted funds with the Captain can be the funds to apply towards discretionary crew gratuity.

Can I use any unused converted APA funds for crew gratuity?

Sample apa escrow.

Below is a sample APA Escrow Account that all clients receive with their Welcome Aboard Documents. In the sample below the charterer has opted to not have any APA back up in Escrow therefore any overages and/or crew gratuity must be paid in Cash prior to disembarkation. Yacht charter vessels do not have the ability to accept credit card for overage payment. If the yacht charter manager closes out account overage with a credit card a 3.5% credit card fee will apply.

Crew Gratuity Guidelines Table

A crew gratuity guidelines table is provided within the APA Escrow Account document to assist the charterer to understand customary, recommended crew gratuity. The table is provided for information purposes only and not obligatory.

APA ESCROW ACCOUNT SAMPLE.jpg

Special Conditions

APA MANAGEMENT PROCESS: APA Management and Account Close Out will be handled by Endless Blue for and on behalf of the Charterer with the Captain in the following manner:

Any potential APA usage overage from Captain’s preliminary account at Mid-Point Charter APA consumption review will initiate a release of additional funds from APA Escrow balance to maintain a positive APA balance until the end of the charter. All expenses with accompanying receipts are logged in the Captain’s log and reviewed with Endless Blue prior to sign off from the Charterer prior to disembarkation.

If an APA release of Escrow Reserves at time of Mid-Point APA review is insufficient to maintain a positive APA balance with the Captain, a charge to the Charterer’s credit card will occur (3.5% credit card fee applies) or a wire transfer must be initiated from the Charterer directly to Endless Blue to replenish APA reserves. Alternatively charterer must provide cash to Captain directly prior to disembarkation.

An immediate charge to the Charterer’s credit card or additional wire transfer initiation from Charterer will occur ONLY in the event where there is no cash reserves in APA Escrow account with Endless Blue or Cash with Charterer on hand. Captain must demonstrate insufficient funds at Mid-Point APA review to maintain a positive APA until end of charter.

Any under usage of APA from Preliminary Captain’s Account (Euro for applicable regions only) may apply towards crew gratuity, fuel or other services requested. If there are no additional discretionary costs or additional services to be settled, the remaining funds are provided via wire transfer or cash to charterer prior to disembarkation.

Remaining amounts in USD Escrow Reserve not used shall be delivered via wire transfer to Charterer from Endless Blue in the currency received or released for crew gratuity based on Charterer’s instructions of percentage amount listed below.

Crew Gratuity is sourced first from any remaining APA from Captain’s preliminary account (in local currency). Should remaining Captain’s preliminary account be insufficient to equate to the total percentage or dollar figure requested from the Charterer to leave for crew gratuity, remaining USD Escrow will be converted to local currency to achieve total sum requested from Charterer. Crew gratuity is based on CHARTER VALUE only and not on total Charter costs. Reference figures below are for reference purposes only.

The account shall be considered closed when all outstanding expenses have been settled with the yacht’s management and all surplus APA or APA Escrow funds have been applied to the charter or returned to Charter Client.

Explaining APA

Explaining APA: How Expenses Work on Your Yacht Charter

On most yacht charters, you’ll be expected to provide an Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) to cover costs during your trip. What exactly is the APA and what does it cover? We answer some common questions to help explain everything you need to know about the APA.

What is APA?

Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) is a lump sum payment that covers all of your on board expenses during your yacht charter. While your charter fees include the hire of the yacht, the crew and the yacht’s insurance, all other expenses are in addition to the charter fee and these are APA costs. An APA is put in place so that your professional crew can prepare all of your groups preferences before you board. Your yacht captain will keep clear track of all APA items spent and so you can view your expenses in a clear and trackable manner.

undefined/

What does your APA cover?

The APA covers all charter costs outside of your base charter fee (the cost of your yacht rental and your crew). This could be used for day to day costs or special requests you make while cruising. Examples of expenses include:

Food & alcohol: you can request your favourite food, beverages or special cuisines and your APA will be adjusted to cover the costs.

Fuel: both for your luxury yacht and any water toys or tenders during your trip.

Dockage fees: harbour and port charges.

Communications: if you intend to use the internet or satellite communications while on board.

How is your APA calculated?

The APA is calculated as a percentage of your yacht charter fee, typically 30% - 50%.

When do you pay your APA?

The APA is paid several weeks in advance of your charter’s commencement date, generally along with your final charter-fee instalment. This is mostly done via bank transfer to your charter broker, which then liaises directly with the vessel on your behalf.

undefined/

Who has access to your APA?

The access and use of APA funds are overseen by the Captain who will ensure the yacht is provisioned for and fuelled ahead of your arrival.  Throughout the charter, your Captain and charter broker will keep track of your expenditure and provide you with a full APA report and receipts, commonly the day before you disembark the vessel.

What if you spend more than your APA? Or if there are funds left over?

If the APA is exceeded all costs must be reimbursed by the charterers at the completion of their trip. If there are funds remaining, these will be returned to you. During your trip you may request a status report on your APA, at any time.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.

Our cooperation with the best designers and leading suppliers of the equipment, technological improvements, aiming at perfection as well as our efforts to meet customers’ expectations are the basic qualities of our Company.

Boats models

  • Antila 24.4
  • Antila 26CC

Antila 22 has a very modern design line, which resembles its elder sister Antila 24.4.

Its users comfort was the main aim to be achieved during the designing process. There is a comfortable double bunk (berth) in the bow part (zone), and the bunk under the cockpit is not smaller than in Antila 24 yacht. We also provide a functional and original kambuz with a double-burner cooker and a table top combined with a sink. On the opposite side – a sanitary cabin. In the midship area there are two sofa-beds. We wish to emphasize that the height in the mess room is 1,78m. Antila 22 is the only boat, which having the length of 22 feet, offers a full standing position for the crew members inside it. Outside there is a two-meter long cockpit with open stern where 6 to 8 persons can have a comfortable seat. The cockpit guarantees enjoying the evenings also with guests from other boats. The yacht will be equipped with a steel sliding keel and an engine fixed on a pantograph.

Our constructor Jacek Daszkiewicz has applied an innovative shape of the hull bottom to make the yacht fast. We also assume very efficient (high) initial and final stability to ensure safety of sailing.

TECHNICAL DATA

PREMIERE 2017

The world premiere of Antila 24.4 took place at sailing fairs in Düsseldorf held from 21.01.2017 till 29.01.2017. Antila 24.4 is an interesting offer mainly for private shipowners – due to its easy one-person operation servicing. Nevertheless, thanks to its spacious interior, it is also appreciated by charter companies. The interior design is not much different from that of Antila 26. There is enough space for 6 full-size bunks, a kambuz and a toilet. The charter version can have additional folding bunks. The deck has been built with a focus on safe and comfortable sailing. All ropes (lines) for sails handling have been connected to the cockpit. The yacht is equipped with full stabilization of a mast together with a gate to lay it down, a rotational keel and a rudder blade vertically lifted (hoisted). A spacious cockpit and a relatively low superstructure ensure excellent sight distance while sailing. Antila 24.4 has received a reward for the best product in its class granted by the Polish Chamber of Marine and Water Sports. In a competition Land Rover Polish Yachts organized by the monthly magazine „Sails and Land Rover” it obtained the title of the Yacht of 2018.

The new product launched in 2012 by the Antila Shipyard from Radom was the sailing yacht 26CC – a gold medal winner at the Boatshow fairs 2012 in Łódź. This yacht was also granted the (First Prize) Main Reward in the category of Charter Yacht 2012 at the Mazovian Fairs of Water Sports in Giżycko.

The boat, whose style is fairly similar to that of Antila 27, has been designed by the construction team of Adam & Michał Orych. The new design of Antila 26CC is classical and futuristic at the same time. The boat looks marvelous from each side, particularly when you look at its shape with the chine of a hull and a water-line. This yacht, as any other Antila models, focus on safety as well as high comfort provided both in a cockpit and in a mess room.

Ergonomic, spacious and very carefully planned cockpit guarantees comfort during sailing and also during mooring. Wide half decks enable freedom of moving around the deck. Slender rigging with large area (surface) of the sails as well as modern shape of the hull guarantee very good nautical parameters. The innovations applied in the mesa room allowed for dividing the interior of the boat into a kambuz, a separate toilet compartment and two independent lockable cabins with double bunks (berths). Already at a first glance the yacht makes an impression of being a symbol of comfort. Antila 26CC is a product which was created with application (usage) of the best available materials – the luxury and stylish interior, comfortable seats, well constructed mattresses with perfectly made stitching, the best quality materials with alcantry upholstery and its elements in different colours. Application of LED type lighting makes the interior well-lighted at minimal energy consumption. The floor and the cockpit boarded with Teak (Tectona grandis) wood imported from Myanmar (Burma), India and Laos add to the complete feeling of luxury and comfort. We are proud of having created a yacht which satisfies even the most demanding tastes of sailors. Our yacht is manouevrable (good-turning), fast and safe both for private shipowners and for charter companies. Antila 26CC makes it possible to taste the world.

Antila 27 designed by the recognized European designers Michał and Adam Orych is a yacht whose idea has been based on a long-term experience of our designing team. It is a modern boat which follows the latest world trends. Attractive, dynamic body of the yacht is combined with ergonomic shaping of the deck and carefully elaborated details, which reflect discreet sport type elegance and sport characteristics.

The yacht is dedicated to both charter companies and private shipowners whose special requirements have been fulfilled by optimization of production with application (usage) of the latest available materials and technological solutions. Exceptionally easy operating and servicing of the boat is an effect of using sophisticated solutions and possibility of adding more options which would increase the boat’s standards. The interior of the yacht – 1,86m high – is large and arranged in such a way that it enables even up to 10 people to stay together in the mess room. The improved transverse stability allows for increasing the sails area (surface) and sailing speed even at lighter breeze, giving also the feeling of comfort and safety in more difficult conditions. The shape of the hull has been designed to enable reaching high speeds as well as good manoeuvrability (turning) and ease of steering – all of this providing real joy of sailing. Antila 27 is also produced in a full sea version for those who like to be particularly challenged.

Antila 33 is a continuation of the successful lines of Antila 27 and Antila 26CC which are appreciated both in Poland and at foreign markets. Modern and dynamic outline with a hull length of 10,5m and the characteristic chine of the hull make this yacht to be clearly distinguished from other vessels. Spacious and ergonomic cockpit with a fixed table and a separated steersman’s station (stand) with two steering wheels, together with easy sails handling make sailing by this yacht pleasant and comfortable for its captain and his crew. Asymmetrical companion way allows for easier rigging operating and much better interior arrangement. Three lockable cabins, each with a vestibule and a fairly large wardrobe, plus full-size bunks in the mess room allow for comfortable sailing even for a quite numerous crew. Enlarged kambuz, a toilet with a shower and non-collision communication in the yacht’s interior, also in the centerboard version – are the additional advantages that were possible to be achieved by using the asymmetrical companion way. Taking the best possible advantage of the yacht’s width and its relatively high ballast coefficient (ratio) enabled for providing very good transverse stability which in relation to the slender rigging, large area (surface) of the sails and optimum hull guarantee very good nautical parameters. Antila 33 is a proposal for those sailors who appreciate luxury and modernity on inland and sea waters.

Antila 33.3 review: The ideal lakeland explorer

This Polish swing-keel boat with clever folding mast system is perfect for exploring the vast Masurian lakes

Lake sailing in Poland is very different to coastal sailing. In many ways it’s more relaxing. There are no tides to contend with and because you can find a marina or pontoon wherever you are, there’s no requirement to plan a day’s sailing. You can simply go where the wind takes you. When you’ve had enough, just beach-up or anchor in a creek.

antila yacht

Anchored in a creek in Masuria

But you need your wits about you too. Sailors have to be tuned-in to sudden wind shifts and lulls, blasts between islands that fizzle into nothing, or vice versa. Some lakes are so big you can barely see the shore, connected by canals so shallow it’s easy to run aground. Masts, keels and rudders go up and down all day – and this is where boat design gets clever. Self-charter is possible, but it certainly helps to have a local skipper… and a forgiving boat.

Dziewiata Lady M – our Antila 33.3 charter boat: Patrycja Tomala Photography

For our adventure with Undiscovered Sailing , our hosts Wojtek and Patrycja Tomala chose an Antila 33.3. Along with the Maxus, this is one of the most popular charter yachts on the lakes.

Antila Yachts is a Polish family-run business, producing boats from 24 to 33ft. One of the largest yachts you’ll see in the region, the Antila 33.3 has many features that make lake sailing easier. Whilst our boat Dziewiata [the 9th] Lady M didn’t come with a radio or electronics – nor even a wind indicator or compass, it did have a bow-thruster, diesel heating and a very nifty folding mast system.

antila yacht

The mast can go up or down in 10 minutes. Photo: Ali Wood

The latter is essential, because the 180 miles of waterways – stretching from the lower Vistula to the Russian border (Kaliningrad) – are connected by canals and rivers with low bridges. We raised and lowered our mast at least twice a day, and it was a simple task thanks to the clever pulley system, aided by an electric winch.

Usually the Antila 33.3 comes with a fully battened mainsail (28.1m2) and self-tacking jib (18.5m2). However, skipper Wojtek requested a larger (23m2), genoa for our trip knowing that we were keen sailors. A gennaker/ code zero is also an option.

Twin helms and a beautiful sunset! Photo: Ali Wood

During our five-day charter we only covered a quarter of the vast lake district. Wojtek chose the northern end of the lakes for us, which was quieter (we saw just a handful of boats) with more challenging sailing due to the many islands and narrow waterways.

Buoyage was limited, and there were protected nature reserves where engines were forbidden. Under full sail Dziewiata Lady M pointed high, sailed fast and was smooth and well balanced. Even with the larger foresail she was easy to tack and gybe.

With no instruments, we sailed by line-of-sight and trimmed the sails accordingly. Or, if we just felt like a blast, we sailed around the cormorant-inhabited islands, getting as close as we dared until Wojtek told us to tack. I especially loved the twin helms, enabling us to switch to the high side for better visibility.

Mast lowering

To get from one lake to another, or to visit one of the many charming Masurian towns, we had to negotiate road bridges. The first job was to lower the boom to the deck by releasing the lazyjacks.

Next, one of us would go to the bow to remove the forestay pin and lift the A-frame whilst the other released the mast purchase line in the cockpit. This needed to be done smoothly and at a consistent pace, keeping two turns on the winch. The lowered mast then rested on a frame at the stern. The process took no more than 10 minutes.

antila yacht

Once under the bridge, we’d do the same in reverse, taking care to check no lines had got caught under the mast step as it reconnected with the deck. Wojtek continually looked in front and behind. Electric winches are great, he told us, but you need to be careful to avoid snagging as it’s too easy to damage the rig. Indeed, on the day of our arrival we saw a sorry looking ‘banana mast’ in the boatyard waiting for repair (or scrap).

When we passed a yacht raising the mast manually, I was grateful for our electric winch. A crew on the coachroof was vigorously sweating the line to help the winchman in the cockpit. It looked like hard work!

On entering the canals we turned on the engine and lifted the rudder (which can draw as little as 45cm) and keel (which reduces draft from 1.85m to 0.6m). Once raised, the keel swings into a casing that forms part of the saloon table. If you hit an underwater object, the rudder and/or keel will kick-up automatically to prevent damage. This happened whilst I was helming on the canal to Wegorzewo. I moved to the side of the canal to let a vessel past and the rudder must have caught the bank.

Antilla also makes a seagoing version of the Antila 33.3, which is CE category B as opposed to C, and has a fixed keel among other modifications.

Skippers typically moor stern-to in Poland, and fix the bow to a trot mooring retrieved with a boat hook. This is where the Vetus bow-thruster comes in handy. Dziewiata Lady M could easily ‘stand still’ whilst we grabbed the line, or waited for a boat to pass in tight quarters. With an open side, stern and bathing platform, the Antila 33.3 is an easy boat to access from the shore or (if the weather’s nice) the water after a dip.

Accommodation

Whilst in the Med or Caribbean you might typically charter a 38ft to 46ft yacht, we had plenty of space for the four of us on our 33-footer. Laura and I both had a double cabin at the stern and Wojtek and Patrycja shared a large, double-door cabin at the bow.

There’s room for two in each of the aft cabins

It would be tighter with six people (two in the saloon), but still comfortable with plenty of room for luggage in the lockers. Antila claims the boat can sleep up to 10 people with a maximum payload of 910kg. However, Undiscovered Sailing sensibly caps it at six.

The saloon was spacious with a large table where we spent lively evenings drinking Polish cider and playing Skip-bo. Because of the pale wood finish, 1.95m ceiling and many windows, the boat let in lots of natural light and we didn’t turn on the LED spotlights until late.

Aside from a canal boat holiday I did last Autumn, this was the first time I’ve enjoyed central heating on a charter. Though the weather was mostly pleasant, we had a few rainy days and cool evenings. The diesel-fuelled Webasto heating was a very welcome addition.

Wojtek and Patrycja Tomala of Undiscovered Sailing

I was surprised by how little we used the Yanmar 21 HP engine to charge the batteries. We did top-up using shore-power in the marinas, but happily spent a night at anchor in a creek, and a full day either side, whilst still having plenty of power for lights, heating, fridge, bow-thruster, electric winch and head.

Not having to power up instruments helped, and for me, this was a big plus-point of chartering in the Polish lakes. It felt like a luxury version of dinghy or day-sailing in a giant harbour. We were surrounded by forest and reed-fringed islands. We rarely knew what time it was and had the freedom to sail where we wanted, and enjoy the scenery and wildlife without double-checking instruments or trying to push the boat for extra knots.

Much as I enjoyed our blustery sails, one of my favourite moments was actually being becalmed. In the busy Solent I’d have no doubt put the engine on, but in Masuria, we simply drifted in silence, feeling the warmth of the sun as it beat through the clouds and listening to a pair of cuckoos call out across the water. When you don’t know how fast you’re going and your destination isn’t important, you stop caring and learn to enjoy the moment, and Dziewiata Lady M is certainly the boat for day-dreaming and relaxation.

MINŐSÉG

Túravitorlások prémium megoldásokkal

Letisztult, modern fomák

Sportos menettulajdonságok

Mi megvalósítjuk álmait!

Az Antila Yachts hajógyár egy modern, 35 éves hajógyártói tapasztalattal rendelkező, professzionális vállalkozás, ahol egy 50 fős csapat, a 24 – 34 láb közötti méretkategóriában készíti középkategóriás túravitorlásait.

A gyár sportos tulajdonságokkal rendelkező tengeri és tavi túravitorlásai nagy népszerűségnek örvendenek Európa-szerte és 2018-tól, képviseletünkön keresztül megérkeztek Magyarországra is.

Termékpalettánk - a legújabb tervezési irányelvek alapján - az elmúlt 7 évben teljesen újjászületett.

Modern, skandináv dizájnt követő konstrukcióink főtervezője a Svédországban alkotó, lengyel származású Michal Orych.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

I've been enquiring about chartering a specific yacht and in the paperwork they mention an APA under the expenses section. What exactly does APA stand for and how do I know if I'm paying the right amount?

yacht charter apa

Editorial Team

APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) was designed to enable charterers to manage their expenses through a clear and trackable arrangement.  The charter fee you will be quoted is for the hire of the yacht and crew only, all other expenses are in addition to the initial charter fee.  The APA is the standard arrangement for paying all expenses during your yacht charter.

It is a straightforward way of creating a petty cash account for the Captain to cover all operating expenses including fuel, port fees, transfers to and from the vessel, food, drink, communications, as well as any special requests and incidentals on your behalf. The Captain will make all of these payments out of this account and must keep all receipts and balance the account for you. There are no mark ups on the APA and you can review the expenditure at any time.

Any credit that remains at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full in cash, and likewise anything outstanding that needs to be paid is to be issued to the Captain by the charterer in cash prior to disembarkation.

Your Captain should make every effort to warn you in advance if it looks like your expenses will exceed your APA.

The total amount of APA is estimated in advance of your charter and is typically calculated as a percentage of the total charter fee, usually 20-25% for a sailing yacht and 30-35% for a motor yacht,  though this does of course depend on the charter parties tastes and requirements, the extent of your itinerary and the number of guests, and so could end up being far less or far greater than the estimation.

Under standard MYBA terms and conditions, the APA should be paid at the same time as issuing the final charter payment. This will then permit the Captain and Crew to plan in advance of departure.

Charterers can request an estimated APA amount from the yacht broker based on their on board expectations. The APA is to be paid approximately one month prior to boarding the charter yacht and is paid directly to the captain of the yacht.
